Evaluation Who would be the audience for your media product? How did you attract/address your audience?
Who’s the audience? The target audience for my magazine is people aged 15-20, both male and female. I have chosen this age group to focus on because I think that people this age are more likely to listen to the music and bands that I am writing about. No one younger or older would probably read a music magazine in this genre, as I am doing research on magazines 'NME' and 'Kerrang!'. Both of which focus on the same type of music. My magazine is more aimed at females, as the way I write and present is in in a more feminine way, as a posed to a magazine like 'Kerrang!' where the writing is aimed at males more. Most bands in this genre are all male, so I think that writing in a different style will give a better aspect of females listening to the same music.
How did you attract/address your audience? A bold title makes any magazine stand out. The person on the cover instantly draws in fans to read the magazine. Upcoming bands: makes people want to be in the know about the latest music. Big, bold and white writing on a purple background instantly stands out, making it the first thing you see, in this case ‘beyond recall’. Buzzwords make people interested, if there favourite band is located after PLUS! They are going to want to read it.
How did you attract/address your audience? ‘What’s inside?’ you instantly know what the page is about. ‘Features’ and ‘Every month’ letting people know what is featured and won’t be in the magazine again if you don’t buy it. Big picture of the band that is featured, so the reader knows that they are going to have a big feature in the magazine. A quote from the interview makes people want to know why they said it, forcing them to buy the magazine.
How did you attract/address your audience? A sarcastic quote makes the magazine seem a bit more fun. A small blurb will question whether or not the person reads the entire article, or skips the page. A specific colour scheme that matches the front cover and contents page makes people think that the magazine has the be perfect, meaning that the article is guaranteed to be good.
