1. The document describes two experiments conducted by Emma S to practice techniques for her final major project.
2. The first experiment used Photoshop to create a manipulated portrait combining a face with text elements. Several tools were used but many will not be relevant for Emma's planned graphics.
3. The second experiment used Adobe Audition to add audio effects like pitch shifting and echo. While unsuccessful overall, it revealed that techniques like using multiband compression and 8-bit music could improve audio quality for Emma's planned podcast.

I am doing a photoshop based experiment to practice techniques and using different tools in preparation for
the graphics that I am planning to create for my FMP. I followed a tutorial from YouTube to create this, I
struggled to follow in some sections of the video so I changed a few things and ways of doing things whilst I
was following it.
Before After
3. Process
1. Select image
1. Select and mask image
1. Remove colour (command, shift, U)
2. Add new layer, make it a black background
3. Create or generate word cloud
4. Add to image, add drop shadow, duplicate many
times to fill screen rotating in different directions.
4. 5. Duplicate all the words and convert into a smart object, add displacement map.
6. Add layer mask to portrait. Create snapshot.
7. Change blend mode of snapshot to linear burn
8. Add text to background using an inverted layer mask.

• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
I might use some tools and techniques from this experiment for my work when creating my
graphics. However, I don’t feel like I will use most of these as the graphics I am going to create
won’t be too complicated as it will just be mostly using shapes and text.
6. Experiment 2
My experiment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifsIhiE2psw
For my second experiment I did an audio based experiment as my final project is
going to be a podcast/radio show. For this I did not follow a tutorial but instead, I
played around with different effects on adobe audition. I used recordings from
previous projects to create this and it wasn't successful and I may not use any or
many of these techniques for my project. However, there are a few I will use such as
using the multiband compressor which I learnt from previous projects, helps my
audio sound more broadcast, professional and louder but clearer.
7. Process
First I opened a multitrack session to alow myself to put more than one layer on the project.
The first thing I did then was adding a pre-made backing to the ’song’ which I created using
8bit music when I was doing my previous project.
Then I added pitch shifter to the audio to make it sound more ‘musical’. I am going to use this
to create my jingle for my final production.
I then played around with different effects such as the echo effect, the multiband compressor
and created new layers to echo it out even more.
I then played around with the mixing tools to see what I could create, however this didn’t
really make much of a difference.
I kept repeating this process adding more backing and layers to create my
’song’
8. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
In my final product I will use a few of the effects I used such as the pitch shifter for my
jingle, using either 8bit music or garage band pre-sets for my jingle music and I will
also use multiband compressor to making the audio louder and clearer. I will use the
’broadcast’ pre-set for this.
However, I do not think I will be using too much of this as it has a different theme and
setting to what I am creating for FMP.
