Production Process Evaluation
Research
I think that the strengths of my research was that I researched several aspects
of my work. Such as existing radio stations and podcasts, looked at the age
groups of each one and I also researched using surveys and interviews, more
specific questions. This helped me a lot to be able to understand what people
in my target audience research. The strengths of my research was that I used
detailed questions to get more specific ideas for my planning. I did a lot of
research on similar existing products and the details I found for each product
was really good and interesting as it helped me to be able to help me see
what works what doesn’t and how people react to it and what draws
attention most and who it draws attention to.
The weaknesses of my research was that I used quite similar questions for my
interview, to my survey so may not. Have got as much specific detail as I
could have. A weakness of my research was that I used mostly females to ask
questions to so the results may have been a bit more biased. Therefore, I
should have used a balanced amount of female and male feedback for this.
Planning
The strengths of my pre-production (planning) were that I had a good understanding of how I wanted to lay out
my project and knew exactly what I wanted to create. I used all the feedback I was given from my research to fit
everything in that I was requested to add in. If there were some things that had more than one answer or a
draw with answers, I made sure I applied both. I made sure that I had a variety of age and gender to make it
fairer. I also thoroughly planned my production and how long I was going to spend on each section, and I
followed that, and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to be. However, as I wanted to make the podcast
casual, I didn’t want to script it therefore, I just wrote questions down and put my cast on the spot which is
what I had warned them it would be. However, this didn’t always go to plan, so I had to cut some questions
out. This was one of my weaknesses as I feel that if I had pre-written/scripted the questions with their answers
it would have given better answers to some of the questions. Another weakness of my planning was who I
casted as I had problems and had to go to both od my backup options as both people, I had casted to play the
‘celebrities’ told me they could no longer do the production last minute due to studying and exams.
As part of my planning, I did two different types of experiments. One experiment I did was using audition and I
was learning some techniques and ways to edit and experimenting what I could do. This didn’t go very well as I
didn’t plan what I was going to do and used lots of random things which didn't go well, and it was very messy.
However, my photoshop production which I did to experiment in preparation for my poster, social media and
logo creation, went well and I am happy with how it turned out. I used these experiments to know what works
and what doesn't. I learnt that the audition process I was experimenting didn't work so I did not use it. But my
photoshop did, I used some parts and techniques for my finished product but it wasn't to have the same
outcome.
Time Management
I think that I used my time very well to do my production. I set a schedule of
when I was going to do what and I used this, followed this and got it done as
quickly as I had hoped. However, I didn’t manage my time well for my
PowerPoint written work as I had a quite a few tough days where I had not
concentrated as well so that therefore meant that I gave myself more work to
do after my production meaning some was rushed.
Technical Qualities
I think that my final product turned out how I wanted it to, and I am happy with the
way it turned out. Technically I think I did a good job. I used a variety of different
techniques to solve problems I faced. For example, when I was having trouble with
the audio panning, I changed the panning to balance it out as much as I could.
However, I did not manage to solve this completely, but I had run out of time to
restart, and I was unsure how to fix it. I had to switch between microphone recorded
audio and phone audio for some sections as the microphone used went a but muffled
and sometimes didn’t pick up certain audio or was humming which again, I tried to fix
but it wasn’t successful in some places. Comparing my work to a podcast such as
capital's breakfast show podcast with roman kemp, I did a lot of similar things similar
like fading the songs in and out, introducing the songs before they play, using their
jingle, etc. I created my own jingle using only garage band, a recording of my friend
singing and adobe audition. I used a variety of effects on the whole project which
made it stand out that little bit more such as multiband compressor and matched the
volume so that it was clearer and at a similar level.
Aural Qualities
I think that my project sounds good and I am happy with the outcome of it, however
there are several things that could do with improving. I had some trouble with the
audio after it was recorded due to a lot of humming from the microphone and the
voices being too quiet in places. I tried to fix this by using audio from my backup
recording, however it wasn’t always equal in volume etc. I tried my best to fix this
issue but it could have still have been improved. Another thing that could be
improving with the audio is the panning which again I had tried to improve through
several techniques, however it didn’t quite work out the way I had hoped. This could
have been improved if I had more time to restart and use only one recording rather
than using both devices audio.
I like theme and the way my work has been layed out. I really like the interview, I think
there was some great answers given and I like how casual but still professional, it
sounds. I am happy with the idea and the creation of the podcast but my editing
could have been improved in some areas. I think that my planning for the character’s
personality and backstory before recording was creative and it turned out exactly how
I wanted them to be.
Audience Appeal
After doing research, interviews and survey I applied as much of my feedback as
possible to my work. I did this by including the most popular choices, trying to piece
them all together in a way that would work. For example, both male and female
artists were popular over a band, so I adapted that to my work by including both a
male and a female artists for not only the songs, but the interview was with both a
female and a male. I researched a lot of questions that would be asked for a teenage
fan-based interview. What they would like to know about artists, what they finding
interesting and what they don't. I used this by asking the questions I did and tried to
fit gender equal questions for both responses from fans and the artist. I made it more
of a casual show rather than formal as most radio stations and podcast listened to by
teenagers are casual and chatty which is why I didn't script my work because there it
sounds more realistic and conversational than scripted too.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
I think that the dialogue was well thought out. The questions were like what yo would
normally hear on a radio station. The little snippets of music were a nice, effective
touch. I liked the ‘E-POP RADIO’ intro and outro, with the music playing behind it each
time. I thought that Andina seemed really confident with what she was saying, she
sounded like an actual music artist would be on the radio. I think that Emma sounded
really confident when talking to the guests, she sounded like an actual radio presenter.
I also really liked the E-POP RADIO logo.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
I think that there was a noticeable amount of background noise, which sometimes made it
hard to hear Charlie’s voice in particular. Also, Charlie sounded a bit unfamiliar with what he
was saying.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
I liked the overall topics that we discussed in the podcast as well as the different
types of music that were included.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
I think that the audio peaks at different points which ruins the calm atmosphere that
was created at the beginning. Other than that I believe that the podcast is solid and
does what is advertised in the title.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product? What
improvements could have been made to the
product?
Content wise everything is sound.
The only changes I'd make to it are possibly audio clarity and audio transitions in the early
introduction. Otherwise though there isn't much
Feedback 4
• What did you like about the product? What
improvements could have been made to the
product?
The work sounds very professional, and the production quality is very good. I think the
audio transitions are a bit sudden and can be a little jarring. Perhaps investigate some
different transitions to move between different pieces of sound.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
I agree with most of the feedback I was given. Most of my feedback was regarding my
problems with the audio being louder an quieter in areas. There was a lot f positive
feedback about the topics which I am happy too.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
The only part of my feedback that I disagree with was in y first piece of feedback when
I was tod that Charlie sounded confused and a bit disorientated. This was supposed to
be quite a stuck up character than he was paying that isn't very smart and is self
obsessed.

As part of my planning, I did two different types of experiments. One experiment I did was using audition and I was learning some techniques and ways to edit and experimenting what I could do. This didn’t go very well as I didn’t plan what I was going to do and used lots of random things which didn't go well, and it was very messy. However, my photoshop production which I did to experiment in preparation for my poster, social media and logo creation, went well and I am happy with how it turned out. I used these experiments to know what works and what doesn't. I learnt that the audition process I was experimenting didn't work so I did not use it. But my photoshop did, I used some parts and techniques for my finished product but it wasn't to have the same outcome.
  • 5. Time Management I think that I used my time very well to do my production. I set a schedule of when I was going to do what and I used this, followed this and got it done as quickly as I had hoped. However, I didn’t manage my time well for my PowerPoint written work as I had a quite a few tough days where I had not concentrated as well so that therefore meant that I gave myself more work to do after my production meaning some was rushed.
  • 6. Technical Qualities I think that my final product turned out how I wanted it to, and I am happy with the way it turned out. Technically I think I did a good job. I used a variety of different techniques to solve problems I faced. For example, when I was having trouble with the audio panning, I changed the panning to balance it out as much as I could. However, I did not manage to solve this completely, but I had run out of time to restart, and I was unsure how to fix it. I had to switch between microphone recorded audio and phone audio for some sections as the microphone used went a but muffled and sometimes didn’t pick up certain audio or was humming which again, I tried to fix but it wasn’t successful in some places. Comparing my work to a podcast such as capital's breakfast show podcast with roman kemp, I did a lot of similar things similar like fading the songs in and out, introducing the songs before they play, using their jingle, etc. I created my own jingle using only garage band, a recording of my friend singing and adobe audition. I used a variety of effects on the whole project which made it stand out that little bit more such as multiband compressor and matched the volume so that it was clearer and at a similar level.
  • 7. Aural Qualities I think that my project sounds good and I am happy with the outcome of it, however there are several things that could do with improving. I had some trouble with the audio after it was recorded due to a lot of humming from the microphone and the voices being too quiet in places. I tried to fix this by using audio from my backup recording, however it wasn’t always equal in volume etc. I tried my best to fix this issue but it could have still have been improved. Another thing that could be improving with the audio is the panning which again I had tried to improve through several techniques, however it didn’t quite work out the way I had hoped. This could have been improved if I had more time to restart and use only one recording rather than using both devices audio. I like theme and the way my work has been layed out. I really like the interview, I think there was some great answers given and I like how casual but still professional, it sounds. I am happy with the idea and the creation of the podcast but my editing could have been improved in some areas. I think that my planning for the character’s personality and backstory before recording was creative and it turned out exactly how I wanted them to be.
  • 8. Audience Appeal After doing research, interviews and survey I applied as much of my feedback as possible to my work. I did this by including the most popular choices, trying to piece them all together in a way that would work. For example, both male and female artists were popular over a band, so I adapted that to my work by including both a male and a female artists for not only the songs, but the interview was with both a female and a male. I researched a lot of questions that would be asked for a teenage fan-based interview. What they would like to know about artists, what they finding interesting and what they don't. I used this by asking the questions I did and tried to fit gender equal questions for both responses from fans and the artist. I made it more of a casual show rather than formal as most radio stations and podcast listened to by teenagers are casual and chatty which is why I didn't script my work because there it sounds more realistic and conversational than scripted too.
  • 10. Feedback 1 • What did you like about the product? I think that the dialogue was well thought out. The questions were like what yo would normally hear on a radio station. The little snippets of music were a nice, effective touch. I liked the ‘E-POP RADIO’ intro and outro, with the music playing behind it each time. I thought that Andina seemed really confident with what she was saying, she sounded like an actual music artist would be on the radio. I think that Emma sounded really confident when talking to the guests, she sounded like an actual radio presenter. I also really liked the E-POP RADIO logo. • What improvements could have been made to the product? I think that there was a noticeable amount of background noise, which sometimes made it hard to hear Charlie’s voice in particular. Also, Charlie sounded a bit unfamiliar with what he was saying.
  • 11. Feedback 2 • What did you like about the product? I liked the overall topics that we discussed in the podcast as well as the different types of music that were included. • What improvements could have been made to the product? I think that the audio peaks at different points which ruins the calm atmosphere that was created at the beginning. Other than that I believe that the podcast is solid and does what is advertised in the title.
  • 12. Feedback 3 • What did you like about the product? What improvements could have been made to the product? Content wise everything is sound. The only changes I'd make to it are possibly audio clarity and audio transitions in the early introduction. Otherwise though there isn't much
  • 13. Feedback 4 • What did you like about the product? What improvements could have been made to the product? The work sounds very professional, and the production quality is very good. I think the audio transitions are a bit sudden and can be a little jarring. Perhaps investigate some different transitions to move between different pieces of sound.
  • 14. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? I agree with most of the feedback I was given. Most of my feedback was regarding my problems with the audio being louder an quieter in areas. There was a lot f positive feedback about the topics which I am happy too. • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? The only part of my feedback that I disagree with was in y first piece of feedback when I was tod that Charlie sounded confused and a bit disorientated. This was supposed to be quite a stuck up character than he was paying that isn't very smart and is self obsessed.
