2. In this experiment I watched a YouTube tutorial on how to create light trails using adobe after effects
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhjXqkEk0jI), I did this by following the instructions in the video and
applied them to my own product. I Sourced a royalty free video of New York which would be compatible, I
then added the footage into adobe after effects and made multiple layers which all played 1 frame ahead of
each other and changed the blending mode to “lighter colour” on all the duplicated clips other than the
original. This gave the product a long exposure/light trail effect which I then implemented into my
experimental product on premiere. I intend to use my knowledge form this experiment in my FMP as I want
to use light trails/long exposure shots to make my product creative and unique.
Process
3. Process
Here you can see that I have edited the colours on the New York light trail footage I created, I did this by
playing around with the colour settings like vibrancy and saturation along with using filters until I was
satisfied with the final outcome. I wanted to make the product catch the audiences attention by having the
lights brighter and more vibrant but also by changing the colour of the lights to be more orange/yellow so it
looked more aesthetically pleasing. I intend to include my knowledge from this experiment in my FMP as I
want to make my footage look as good as possible.
4. Process
For this experiment I made a parallax using adobe after effects, I did this by using Photoshop to make
multiple layers of the objects which I wanted to move like the clouds, skydiver and plane. Once I have the
layers separated I could then import them into adobe premiere and key frame them to make them move in
the direction I wanted, I did this by moving the anchor point and position. Once I had completed this I added
it into my adobe premiere product experiment and edited it match with the beat of the music. By doing this
experiment it has helped me practise and gain extra key knowledge on making parallaxes as I intend to
implement this type of work into my FMP.
5. Process
With this footage I decided to experiment with the colour settings, I played around and tweaked nearly all of
the individual colour settings to make my final outcome. I will use my experience from this situation in my
FMP as I intend to edit the settings of the raw footage to make my product look more aesthetically pleasing
for the audience.
6. As you can see here is my finished experiment with all the after effects experiments included, you can see
how I have cut the clips to match the beat of the music. In this area I wanted to experiment with transitions
and the layers so I decided to add royalty free footage of an ink drop underneath the other footage above,
this meant that after every cut the ink drop would play until the next scene transitioned in. You can also see
this is where I added in royalty free light trail footage and my light trail experiments which I imported from
after effects, I experimented with different types of transitions and colour settings at this point. Once I had
finished playing around with transitions I decided to experiment with using Photoshop and how I could
possibly use it in my work, this is where I decided to take inspiration from an existing product I researched. I
used Photoshop to help me create the effect that the New York light trail footage was playing on a TV, I did
this by cutting out a certain area of the TV footage’s top layer and having the light trail footage be behind
that layer which allowed it to look like the footage was playing through the TV. I also experimented with the
time settings on the footage by either slowing it down, speeding up it up or reversing the footage to the beat
of the music. Once I was satisfied with my previous experiments I wanted to play around with the colour
settings on the last clip, I altered the settings to make it seem more eye catching and unique. This whole
experiment has benefitted me greatly as its given me extra knowledge and skills which I will utilise when
making my FMP
7. Reflection
I intend on including all of the knowledge and extra skills I have gained from my experiments into my
FMP, when producing my FMP I hope to expand on my experiments and add extra effects like VHS
effects and other creative/unique transitions, effects, audio transitions and audio effects.
