2. The use of technology played a huge part throughout the whole production process from
when I took photos to uploading the final draft.
I first used PowerPoint on the computer to display the plan of my magazine so that I had
something to follow when producing the magazine. I made a plan for the following pages;
front page, contents page and the double page spread. In total I designed and produced 4
pages for the magazine using Photoshop.
I used a digital camera to capture several images of the one artist I used throughout the 4
pages I produced. I captured a variety of photographs using a range shots and focusing on
different parts of the artists face. I uploaded them to the computer and chose the
appropriate image for each page. When I was taking the pictures I became aware of how
important lighting is in photography because I had a few glares in some of the photos which
make them look of poor quality. I then edited the images slightly on Photoshop to improve
the image quality slightly without changing the appearance of the picture too much. I used
the lasso tool to remove the background and also adjusted the contrast and lighting to
improve the image. I didn’t use any sort of filters on any of my images because I was trying
to keep them looking realistic. If I had exaggerated the photographs they wouldn’t be
believable for its audience.
3. Another skill I learnt was video making. I did this once throughout the entire course
because I was not confident with using the software that I had available. It was also the
first time I had made a video from the computer so I did not have a clue what to do when I
first started producing it. However, after many attempts to get it right I was able to create a
video about music artist representation which was included in my blog as part of the
research tasks before I actually made a magazine myself. I am now a lot more than I was
before because I feel that my video editing skills have developed really well. This skill could
help me in future.
I have also had to create a blog which was also unfamiliar to me because I had never done
anything like this before now. I have uploaded many different posts on a variety of different
formats including images, documents and videos. It is a skill which I have now learnt and
could help me in the future. YouTube was one thing I had never used before to upload a
video, although it was fairly simple how to upload a video. The only tough part was
converting it onto my blog by copying and pasting the embed code. This was incredibly
easy to do after I watched a tutorial on how to do it.
In conclusion I feel that the whole project has taught me many new skills which could help
me in the future. However, some of the task I was required to do were very easy for me to
complete because I knew what I was doing, but I would say it helped me develop and
improve those skills I already knew.
