QUESTION 3: WHAT HAVE
YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
POSTER FEEDBACK
At the same time as the magazine, we also showed the audience the poster for them
to provide us with feedback on the product.
Q1: WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT THE
POSTER?
There were a number of aspects that our audience liked about the poster. The dark
background was praised as it contrasted with the text. I produced a draft poster
before we started formal planning, but we then used this design as we felt it looked
professional. Therefore I am happy that the audience like the poster. They also liked
how simple the poster is, but also said it is very effective. This is what we were trying
to achieve when producing the poster. We didn’t want it to be too messy and
unorganised, so we made it simple but it still does the work that a movie poster
should do. As a group, we all decided on what our tagline was going to be, so after
receiving the comment that they really like the tagline, we are very happy. There were
other comments such as, it was original, interesting and engaging and the font and
title. All of the things that were on the poster, except for a couple of things have been
mentioned in being the audiences favourite part on the poster.
Q2: WHAT WOULD YOU
IMPROVE ABOUT THE POSTER?
We then asked the audience what they may improve on the poster.
One thing they suggested was to change the credits, by enlarging them.
However, our research proved that, the credits on all movie posters are always written
in the smallest text.
It was also suggested that more images be added, but again, it is conventional to
have just one image on a movie poster.
‘Lighten the title’ was also a suggested improvement, the reason the title is a little
hidden is to represent Rose in our film, and her hidden and secretive character. Our
audience said they would include more about the narrative of the movie, but we think
that that would give too much away about the film. We want our audience to look at
the poster, watch the trailer and then watch the film.
Q3: WHAT SIMILARITIES CAN YOU NOTICE
ABOUT THE POSTER COMPARED TO
PROFESSIONAL MOVIE POSTERS?
As our poster doesn’t have too much on it, it doesn’t give too much away about the
film. Therefore this is a teaser poster, which is what the audience identified. They said
that it shows the genre clearly, which is good, because we want our audience to know
exactly what genre our film is. We purposely chose the font because it was scary and
related to our main character because her name is Rose, and our font has a foliage
kind of effect.
It was also noticed that we had social media links on the poster, the actors names, the
producers and overall professional presentation. All of these things we intended to
have to maybe make our audience want to watch the film, because they may like the
actors or the films that have been produced from the producers that have created
‘Rose’.
Q4: WHAT CAN YOU READ INTO THE
MOVIE FROM THE POSTER?
From looking at the poster, the audience were able to read meaning into the film;
perhaps by looking at the picture or the title. They were able to see that it is going to
be a dark horror story, a horror or mystery, and it will be a chilling film. This is exactly
how we want the film to be portrayed, and if our audience can see that it is going to
be like that, then we have done a good job in producing the trailer.
Q5: WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE
TO THE CHOSEN FONT?
Our audience sample were able to identify that the font goes well with Rose. They
were able to identify the genre from just looking at the font, therefore, the choice of
font was a good choice, because it is doing exactly what we want it to do.
There was a response that said, ‘Red is hard to see on black’. We knew this but kept
the style as we want the font to be a little hidden to represent the character of Rose.
Some people said that the font shows danger, which is very true, and it is engaging
and appropriate.
Q6: WHAT DO YOU LEARN, IF
ANYTHING, ABOUT THE
NARRATIVE OF ‘ROSE’ MOVIE?
After asking our audience this question, the responses we received were very positive
because they all relate to our film. Someone said that there is a character called Rose,
which is of course true.
It was also said that horror is conveyed, which is also true.
They were able to see that it the movie is a horror genre.
Some others said there would be a lot of suspense, which is the key to a good horror
film. To build the suspense for a while and then hit the audience with a jump scare.
Q7: HOW EFFECTIVE OF YOU FEEL
THE COMBINATION IS OF THE
MAIN IMAGE AND TEXT?
Our audience said that they feel there is a good balance between the main image and
the text, therefore, our audience will focus on both, rather than just one part, this is
what we want to happen. Some others said, it is a dark scary movie and horror genre
and that this is clear throughout all three productions. There were a few respondents
who said the image and text were not that clear. However, the reason we have done
this is to represent the main character, Rose.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, I am very happy with the responses we received, and I can now see that
our audience are able to identify the meaning we intended.
