2. Update
Our production company is now at the stage where we need to secure the
locations for filming. We have chosen to explore the following locations as
possible settings for the scenes in our trailer:
Deserted house in Moseley
Brownsover Hall Hotel
Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel
Abandoned house in Coleshill
4. Coleshill Hall Farm/Birmingham Rd, Coleshill,
Birmingham, Warwickshire B46 1DP
Me and another member of my group travelled to an abandoned farmhouse in
Coleshill, Birmingham. I knew of this location because I have lived around this area
for 18 years, and therefore knew of the property.
We went to explore the grounds of the building, as this part was not sealed off, so
for security reasons, we decided not to enter.
We checked on Google Maps, and we zoomed in to the building, and we found a
contact number for a property company that had taken ownership of the property.
We called the number, and were told we were unable to enter the house.
This was an unfortunate setback because it would have been an ideal location
which is easy to access, and visually would have been effective.
6. Deserted House in Moseley
Me and another member of our company got in
touch with the Daily Mail, as this is where we
found the article about the abandoned house.
We spoke to the journalist of the article, and he
told us that the house is now in the process of
being renovated, and we are unable to use the
location to film part of our trailer.
This would have been the perfect location for us,
as it had everything we needed, unfortunately,
we are unable to use it.
8. Ice House and Dovecote
As we were scrolling through the Daily Mail article, we came across a quote from
the Secretary of the Moseley History Society, Fiona Adams which explained that
the property: “was the home of Fred and Olive Price - the Moseley Local History
Group had many meetings there. ‘We’ve been increasingly concerned about the
state of this charming Arts and Crafts house that Fred lovingly maintained.”
We took it upon ourselves to contact Ms Adams, who advised us about the
renovations in the Moseley property.
She then suggested to use the Ice House or Dovecote properties which are located
in Moseley Park.
However, as a group we chose not to use these locations as they were not suitable
for what we wanted to do. They were not suitable because they were not
conventional houses, so it wouldn’t have fitted in with our story.
10. Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel
This location was a further alternative and was the one we were going to call if
we were not granted permission to film in the Moseley house. So we contacted the
hotel, and we asked if we could use the outside and the inside of the hotel to film.
They told us that we are definitely able to use the outside of the hotel, but we will
need to call a week before we wish to film, and they will let us know if we have
permission to use the inside.
It was unfortunate that they were not able to give us a definite answer to whether
we can film, as this impacts our planning. However, it was good that they let us
use the outside, as we have a definite outside location.
We have also contacted an alternative location, in case we do not get permission
to use the inside.
12. Brownsover Hall Hotel
This is ta further possible location as we have contacted a few places and we
haven’t been given permission for the usage of their premises. So now we have
spoken to the manager of the Brownsover Hall Hotel. He told us to call him back a
few days later, which we did, and it went to voicemail each time we tried, so we
left him a voicemail, and we are waiting for him to get back to us. Unfortunately, it
has been a week later, and we have still received nothing back.
