Task 3
2. FILM INDUSTRY AUDIENCE
The film industry spend a lot of money on audience feedback, they
will do this to find out what the audience like and they do this
through market research.
To find out a target audience they will require people from different
areas of the country so they can get the most successful results
possible, they also find different ages, and both female and male.
They will then get them to fill a questionnaire, this will then give
them a target audience.
They also do test screen viewing, with the target audience they have
found, this then allows people that haven't been working on the film
to look at the film, and give feedback on what they can change, or
add. This will then help make the film as successful as possible.

3. our target audience
In my blog I have used a infogram to present the target audience
research but I originally got the information from the pearl and dean
website, I used the business site to find this. What I did to find this this
research was to find films with the similar genre to mine. . Overall, I
found that both 15-24 year olds watch the three films, and also
45+, I've also found that a lot more females like the drama genre, and
that AB (upper class) like this genre too, 1. black swan 2. silver linings
3. the soloist
4. When do we ask for feedback?
We ask for feedback once we put the shots within the final cut
timeline, once in correct order and the right lengths, we didn't
focus on any sort of special effects or sound, but before we started
to add the special effects, transitions and sound we wanted to
make a rough cut for our benefit to have a look at the structure of
the film but also so we could gain opinions from the public before
putting the effort in on the extras. The feedback that we gained
we found it really useful.
Once we gained the feedback from the rough cut, we waited until
we was on the last steps on the teaser trailer, magazine cover and
the poster. to then ask for the second amount of feedback that we
asked for, in which we could change minor errors or
improvements, we gained this feedback through YouTube, in
which people commented on the YouTube video.
5. Feedback- rough-cut
We asked our target audience of primary target audience of 15-24 years old and secondary target
audience of 45+ to look at our rough cut and to give us feedback. For this first feedback we focused
more on the order of the rough cut, and the length of each shot, and if it worked and created enough
tension. Firstly we asked the target audience about the micro elements of the camera work, sound,
mise en scene, and editing. We then asked for them to tell us our strengths, weaknesses and possible
improvements. Overall we gained good feedback, mostly good and ok, we got some poor feedback on
our camera work and editing but as it was so early on, we wasn't focusing on the camera work and
editing as we hadn't even started the editing just yet, and we felt the camera work was just fine.
However on the strengths and weaknesses, the main strengths was the camera work, good setting
and storyline. The main weaknesses and improvements that we got were the spelling mistakes within
the text on the teaser trailer, better font and to add sound to the teaser trailer. As we hadn't yet added
sound to the teaser, and we only put rough text to give us an idea on where the text will go.
6. How did we improve?
The feedback we gained was helpful as the audience gave us
improvements that we could make such as the sound, the fonts,
editing, and the spelling mistakes. Firstly we started the editing, we
improved this by adding in transitions, we added in fade to black,
fade from one shot to another and we also kept the jump cut, we
then added effects to the shots, by adding a slight colour onto every
shot to make it look a lot more professional and less of a yellow
colour, we also added blur to some of the shots to add a distortion to
make it fit in with our genre. We then added fonts and text by
finding a font on da font, in which we chose the font “nervous” and
we added it to final cut and added coming soon and the title, we also
changed the spelling mistakes. We next added sound to the teaser
trailer in which we did a voice over which we then changed on
garage band, and then found the sound on Freedsound.
7. Feedback- near end of post production
For this we got feedback on all three products, as for the rough-cut feedback we only got it on the
teaser trailer. This time we asked for the audience to comment on our YouTube video, we also put the
magazine cover and the poster on a social media site, to ask for feedback that way, but they can also
tell us what we are doing well. Overall we found that the feedback was positive on the teaser trailer, we
mostly got “an all round GOOD trailer”, “Liked the use of non- diegetic and diegetic sound. The only
improvement we got was “to look at changing the lighting of the shots to set the mood”. For the
magazine cover we got five comments, and overall we got good feedback, the audience liked the
distortion within the image, as it created a confusion, and paranoia within the character, but the
audience were unsure about the CCTV camera which is placed on the left of the cover, some felt that it
emphasised the Under Surveillance title but some felt it was pointless and out of place. We decided to
keep it as we felt it emphasised the cover. . However, there was nothing the audience felt we had to
improve on with the poster. The improvements that we needed to make was the empty space within
the poster.
8. How did we improve?
This feedback helped us improve our three products by a fresh set of
eyes looking at it all. The things the audience felt we needed to
change on the teaser trailer was the lighting, which is fairly difficult
to change in post production, and we felt as a group that the lighting
was good, and added a more natural look to the trailer and set the
depressed sort of mood. However we got a mixed message on the
CCTV camera that we added to the magazine cover, as some felt that
it didn't fit in but others felt it added to the film title, which was
what we was looking for, so we left it on the cover as it adds to the
film title. For the film poster, we got some feedback to fill the poster
up more by “pulling the top names down, and the space to the left
could be filled more”. So what we did was pulled the actors names
down, but we felt that as it was a teaser film poster, that the poster
should be fairly empty, and also we wanted the image in the poster
to stand out a lot more.
9. Conclusion
Overall we used the feedback that the audience gave
us, and changed the things the audience felt we could
make better if we felt it would make it better too. We
felt it was a good idea using two different social
media sites to gain feedback, as different people use
these sites.
