QUESTION 2
In what ways does
your media product
use, develop or
challenge forms and
conventions of real
media products?
Uses/develops:
• I used a large title, a short introduction
paragraph and a main text body in a
column form.
• I used an image that covers the entirety
of both pages.
• I inserted a quote from the interview and
placed it amongst the text, so that
readers could get a feel of what the
interview is about and want to read on.
Challenges:
• While my models did look at the camera, their pose is quite
unusual and whimsical compared to conventional images used in
double-page spreads.
• I reused the monochromatic colour scheme from the front cover
here, making the little colour used more prominent.
How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
My target audience:
■ Young adults between age15-30
■ Both genders (equal split)
■ Interested in the indie and alternative rock music genres
■ Interested in music festivals and new music
■ Middle/upper class with disposable income
■ Eager to use online outlets such as websites and social media
How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
■ Models are within the age range of my target audience
and are dressed in ordinary clothing, helping readers to
relate with the artists.
■ Models are both males, which challenges the statistics
of artists that appear on magazine covers (2/5 men, 3/5
women).
■ The message the cover poses would apply to musicians
in bands and people interested in the music industry.
How does your media
product represent particular
social groups?
• Links to social media show that the magazine has an online
presence, which would make it easier to access by the
young demographic.
• Unique fonts and layout would attract readers that want
something alternative and new.
• “What We’re SpinningThisWeek” box has an alternative-
rock album in (After Laughter – Paramore), a genre listened
to by my demographic of young people interested in that
genre.
• Interview with indie band shown, which would be
interesting to people that listen to indie rock.
• Contents show album reviews and gear rundowns,
attractive to people who like them bands and people
interested in the music industry/making music,
respectively.
How does your media product

groups?
■ Models are within the age range of my target
audience and are dressed in ordinary clothing,
helping readers to relate with the artists.
■ Models are both males, which challenges the
statistics of artists that appear on magazine
covers (2/5 men, 3/5 women).
■ The band talks about music they like and about
concerts, both things my target audience are
associated with.
