2. Mind Map 1 Video Game Magazines
Colour Schemes
When looking at this range of
video game magazines I can see
that the colour schemes on
more modern poster have
become darker compared the
retro magazines. Therefore if I
wanted to design a modern
magazine I would have to use a
dark colour scheme. I have
decided to use this bleak colour
scheme as it will appeal to the
modern video game industry.
Age Group
I will aim this magazine at
people between the ages of 1-
20 and 20-35 as those are the
main demographics of video
game players, therefore they are
most likely to view this
magazine
Genres
When looking at these video game
comics I can see they all focus on a
different genre of video game, some
focus on games that have already
been released and others focus
more on up and coming games,
therefore if I make a video game
magazine cover I will need to decide
whether to focus on up and coming
games or already existing ones.
Context
I also need to make a two page
spread about the context of the
magazine or reviewing a game,
during this process I think I will
review a game, therefore I will need
to write a review to my audience, by
addressing them.
Style
On all of these magazine the main
characters of the game the magazine
is focusing on are always front and
centre, therefore when I design my
poster I will need to make sure the
character is front and centre, to
attract the consumer.
3. Mind Map 2
Colour Scheme
When looking at these
magazines for films, I can see
that depending on what film
the magazine is focusing on
depends on the colour scheme,
for example total film is looking
at a film called Atomic Blonde,
the main colour scheme for
that film is very neon based,
therefore they have used that
colour scheme. Therefore
depending on what film I
decide to review for the
magazine will depend on the
colour scheme.
Age Group
When looking at film magazines
the main target audience are film
and TV enthusiasts, there isn’t
really an age range as people
from many different age groups
could be a film or TV enthusiasts.
Style
Much like video game magazines
the main characters of the show
or film at sat in the middle of the
cover of the magazine. This is
done to show that it is the main
focus of the magazine, therefore
when I choose a film to review I
will need to add the main
character(s) to the centre of the
magazine so the consumer knows
what the focus is.
4. Mind Map 3
Colour Scheme
When looking at the
colour schemes of these
music magazines I can see
that each magazine has
it’s own different colour
scheme, but they are all
quite bright and out there.
This is done to represent
their art form, musicians
like to be out there and
the colour of the
magazines emphasise
that.
Age Group
When looking at music magazines
the age range varies from young
children to adults, for example
some children learn to play
instruments from an early age
therefore they could be interested
in guitar magazines. Teenagers and
adults can read up on their
favourite bands and can see tour
dates or when new albums come
out.
Style
When looking at the style it is
much like the film and video gam
magazines, the musician that the
magazine is focusing on is sat front
and centre.
6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• There is some repetition in the images I have picked, for example
they are all images for modern video games, modern video games all
follow the same colour schemes, the colour schemes are very bleak
and grey.
• The image style are all quite similar too, they all feature the main
character in the centre of the poster.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• My mood board will influence my final product from the colour
scheme to how the character is positioned on the cover.
