Magazine of inspiration – Flat Bass
This is my magazine of inspiration and as
you can see the front cover looks very
dramatic but also quite casual and this is
one look of which I would like to keep
when I create my magazine front cover.
The front cover model of this magazine is
Drake and I will be using my cousin as I
feel his style and his look is like the
audience that I would like to have reading
my magazine and looking at the front
cover. The colors in this image is stand out
a lot more prominently compared to the
background which is a lot more darker
and duller this helps the content and text
stand out a lot more of which I would like
to keep on my front cover.
Magazine of inspiration – TV
This is my second magazine of inspiration
and this front cover has a lot more colour
and overall looks a lot more professional.
The text on the page is bold and displayed
in a simple font making it easy to read and
understand. My cousin, who will be the
model, is going to try to pose in a similar
way to the model of this front cover and
this will help to appeal to the reader
encouraging them to buy the magazine. In
order to fit my criteria and genre the pose
will by a lot more casual which relates
more to the audience that I want to
attract. I chose this front cover due to its
interesting pose and bright colours which
depict mystery and leave a memory in the
readers mind.
Font Styles
I like these fonts for my Masthead because they are simple and bold in order to
catch the readers attention. Due to the fact that the fonts are bold makes it easy
for the consumer to see and recognize which magazine it is. Also the majority of
these fonts link to the style of music that will be inside the magazine.
House style – Flat Bass
• Colour scheme: My colour scheme will have black, red and white.
This is because I believe that these colours will stand out the most
but will also keep the magazine professional and simples.
• Font style: My magazines font will be in American captain as I
believe that is it is clear to read but also gives a hint of being
professional. Furthermore, for my Masthead however I will be
using the font knucklehead as I believe that it looks clear and easy
to read but also will stand out to the consumer a lot more. The
logo will be located at the bottom of every page and the
masthead will be be located top left of each page making it more
noticeable.
• Social media: Flat Bass should be in synergy with social media as it
would be able to then obtain more publicity and therefore get
more consumers.
House style - TV
• Colour scheme: Another colour scheme that I would use would be black, red and
yellow. The reason for this is because red and black are quite dark and evil colours
and the yellow will connote that the magazine is not all evil as well as it will stand
out a lot more.
• Font style: Firstly, my magazines font will be Hotel de Paris due to the fact that the
font sticks out of the page and looks like a font that would be in a magazine. For the
Masthead however I would use the font Antique book cover as it looks a lot more
professional than all the others but also makes the magazine look a bit more evil
than a usual magazine. This time the Masthead will be on the left hand side of the
page and the logo will be at the top right of the page making it the first thing you
see when you open the page making it more memorable.
• Social media: I also think that this magazine should be in synergy with social media
as it would mean that more consumers will want to buy the magazine and the
magazine will become more memorable.
• Overall, the the front cover will be filled with colour and different sized texts in
order to attract the readers attention and encourage them to buy the magazine.
Steve Neale (1980)
“Repetition and difference”
• Steve Neale states that genres all contain instances of
repetition and difference, difference is essential to the
economy of the genre.
• Neale states that the film and its genre are defined by two
things:
• A film must match the genres conventions to be identified
as part of that genre.
• The film must subvert convention enough to be considered
unique and not just a clone of an existing film.
• Overall what Neale is trying to say is that a film must match
its genre in order to be unique otherwise the film is just like
another film that is already existing.
What am I going to repeat
• For media texts to be successful they must have elements of “ repetition” and
“difference”.
• From the inspiration of the magazine XXL, I would keep the colour scheme of the logo
shown in XXL as I believe that it stand out a lot more than the rest of the magazine.
Also these colours seem to be repeated through out the music magazine industry and I
would like to attract my readers in a similar way. Furthermore, I would be repeating a
similar layout, which would include the main headline being located at the bottom of
the front cover so that it doesn’t distract the reader from the main image being in this
case Drake. Additionally, with a simple background being white gives the magazine a
professional look and attracts more of the readers attention to the main image.
• However I would like to change the colour of the main image so that it isn’t in black
and white and that the colours aren’t so dull as I feel that this will allow the ain image
to be seen a little better.
• By completing these changes it will allow me to create a effective front cover and
magazine that will attract the attention of as many people as possible. By doing this it
will make the pitch of the magazine a lot easier to promote and therefore it will further
increase the amount of sales and the amount of profit that is made for the production
of the magazine.
Mood Board 1 – Flat Bass
Mood Board 2 - TV
Mood Board conclusion
• I have chosen to put a magazine cover of Kanye West
on my mood board for NME as he is a highly known
musician and this helps depict how NME use his face
in order to grab the attention of the consumers. Also
another magazine cover that I put on the Q magazine
mood board is one with Cold play and the reason for
this is because they are also a well known band that
produces great music that satisfies millions of people
around the world. The fact that the Q magazine
producers decided to put the band on the front cover
could be hinting to what is inside the magazine and
when they will be touring.
Summary – Flat Bass
I have decided to pick Flat Bass as one of my magazines as I believe it looks a lot
more casual compared to the other two and this helps to fit in with my audience
a lot better promoting them to buy the magazine. The layout of the Flat Bass
magazine looks more as if it includes content that is more formal but still casual
compared to the other two magazines. As for the information itself, the content
and font will stand out making it easier to read and absorb the information that is
listed on the pages. Furthermore, the information will be on interviews to do with
artists associated with the genre and overall gossip to do with the artists and
musicians. Parts of the content will have information that will be relevant in the
next magazine and the circulation will be monthly allowing for plenty of content to
be shown and at an affordable price. The layout of the content is very precise and
this is to help catch the readers eye in order to make them want to read on.
Summary - TV
I decided to pick the TV idea due to how much more professional it is compared to the
other two and because of how professional it is, it makes the whole company look
professional and it attract the attention of the audiences intended. Furthermore, I
believe that the font and the style is a lot more interesting and memorable which is
accentual to the sale of a good magazine filled with intriguing and sharp content. Also I
prefer the layout of the TV and the fact that I will be including bonus information in order
to keep the consumers attention and keep them coming back by leaving cliff hangers at
certain parts. The consumers will also have taster information on what will be in the next
magazine so that the magazine stays in memory. The color scheme of The TV idea is very
distinct making it easy for the consumer to see and therefore absorb the information.
The fact that the magazine is on monthly circulation allows for me to include a lot of
juicy content that can be will make the consumer want to read more. Overall I prefer the
TV idea as it has a lot better ideas and that will most certainly keep the consumers
attention and take them away from any rival magazines.
Audience theories
• Hartley: Fictions of the audience allows a brand or a company to grab a sense of who
their product will be sold to. Because of this it allows the brand and company to have a
target audience that they can aim their product towards to ensure that the product will
be effective and efficient. Regarding this to “Tempo” the target audience would be
secondary schools students aged between 11-18 although the features and easy use can
allow 18+ users such as teachers to use the application. For Pulse, however the target
audience is primarily aimed at users aged from 18-25+ as the design and colour scheme
appeals more to the older generation. The soothing colours of blue and grey help to
attract the attention of older users through its strong contrast and professional features.
Katz: Theory is to focus on the audience instead of
the actual message that is portrayed across. An
example of this would be “what people do on
applications” instead of “what applications do to
people” and by doing so the center of the product
should be to make it relevant to the target audience
as much as possible therefore encouraging them to
buy it instead of buying the next best thing.
https://sociologytwynham.com/2013/10/03/medi
a-effects-on-audiences/
Audience theories continued
• Maslow: The Maslow theory indicates that audiences are attracted to media
that satisfy their needs and this can be seen in texts and images over social
media. Maslow’s hierarchy illustrates different circumstances that can occur
in everyone's daily lives while social media provides a distraction that can
please the viewer/reader. Regarding Tempo, the application will most likely
be used the most during schools as the application provides an easy use of
features and doesn't require a computer unless the user wishes to use the
website. Because of this the features will be designed to satisfy the user
through smooth movements and easy access without problems.
• Socio-economic: The socio-economic needs suggest that certain people have
higher paid jobs and because of this it determines what group they are in.
For example, “Upper class” workers who are typically professional lawyers
will roughly be earning ÂŁ50,000+ while a lower socio-economic group such
as group E are normally students or casual workers who are earning from
£5,000 – £7,000. For Tempo the website and application will be aimed at the
group E audience as students and causal workers will be able to access the
website and application with easy access. However due to the website and
application being mainly a music based media product it is possible that it
will relate to almost all the groups.

Staff and Cost
In order to ensure that my magazines are high quality and include great content I have decided
to raise the salary by a couple thousand to ensure that the work in getting done and I will
ensure that the candidates will be worth the money I am willing to pay for them. As you can see
I have got a lot of different occupations for each job and this is to make sure that everything is
done to a great quality and it also helps to reduce stress for the workers as not one of them has
to do all the work. https://www.chron.com/jobs/?_ga=2.26251015

Legal and Ethical Issues
• A watermark also helps with the magazines copyright issue and this
is due to how specific and complex the icon is. This icon can be seen
as the magazine will have this icon and it will have a plethora of
colours that can only be detected by a reflected light.
An example of a watermarked image can be
seen to the left. I would use this idea in my
magazine and as you can see the image is
created in a specific way such as the colours
and shape can be traced back to the original
image or video of which this image took place.
In order to use this image you would need legal
permission from the author to use the image.
Legal and Ethical Issues
• Also there is IP which stands for intellectual property and what this means is that you content and
images are protected in order to stop people from stealing or using the images:
• The names of products and brands
• The inventions of the author
• The design of the product and content
• Things that are written, made or produced by the author.
• Copyright issues are all IP protection purposes that must take place in order to stop people from
stealing or using an authors content without their permission.
• I will use this in my magazine so that my images and content wont be
copied and used in other peoples work.
Copyright
• Copyright is a very important issue that could result in protecting the authors work so that it
cannot be copied and used under another authors name. This copyright includes all the content
in the magazine from images to the facts that have been researched.
• This is relevant to “TV“ as I will release huge amounts of information every month and this
copyright term helps to keep the content safe from being copied or stolen and used under the
name of a different author. An example of this would be a famous artists such as Jay Z, Rihanna or
my subject James Smith and their interview which has very specific information and content that
no one else would be able to obtain in order to include in their own magazine.
• Copy right will be very useful when used in my magazine as it will allow for the images to not be
copied and used under the name of another artist.
Regulatory & Legal, Ethical Issues
• A watermark helps with any poster copyright issue due to how specific and complex the icon is.
This icon can be seen as the posters unique symbol that is made up of a plethora of colours that
can only be detected by a reflected light.
• The Data Protection Act (DPA) was developed to control how personal a customers information is
used by organizations or government bodies. It protects people and lays down rules about
how data about people can be used. The DPA also applies to information or data stored on a
computer or an organized paper filing system about living people. Organizations that do not adhere
to the rules set out by DPA risk prosecution by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) where
fines can reach up to ÂŁ500,000 and even imprisonment.
• Ethical issues: When a festival poster is being produced it is very important that the company
follows strict rules and consider consequences of its release. It is also important that the poster
realizes the consequences of targeting a specific culture or religion that might seem vulnerable. If
the brand does not consider ethic groups such as age, gender and sexual orientation then this can
effect the brands reputation and lead the target audience to not buy or visit any of the brands
tickets or events. This regarding Innovation leads to the conclusion that their brand does not have
any copyright symbols on their logo. Their legal and ethical signs on their print based
advertisement does not have
Roles of regulatory bodies
• The advertising Standards Authority (ASA): s a company who focuses there efforts towards targeting
advertising all over the media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. They do this through
advertising as in there words it is better to have advertising in media for the audiences rather than
have media without advertising. ASA is sure to keep in contact with the media audiences as they carry
out regulatory activities towards advertising to ensure that the media stays within the rules and is
appropriate. Additionally, they also respond and take into consideration the audiences complaints.
• Ofcom: mainly focuses on ensuring that audiences have help with communication services and are
protected by scams. Ofcom also tries to encourage other competitive services in the UK in order to
keep all the overpowering service providers within the legislations and rules to keep the content
appropriate and relevant. This also allows for the smaller services to follow the larger services in a
similar way. The Ofcom organisation mainly runs off of answers to questions that are answers by a
board of directors that will help to keep the audiences and services within the right rules.

Budget
In order to ensure that the magazine is a success it is always important for a Distributer and
publisher to have a budget. By having a budget put in place helps to ensure that the publisher does
not exceed a certain price limited. This is particularly important as it will give the publisher an
accurate estimate for the amount of profit the magazine will obtain once distributed in stores and
online. With all of this in mind, I decided to keep my budget below ÂŁ500,000 so that the magazine
looks and feels professional to the reader. These characteristics will also help to encourage the
consumer to buy the magazine and help the publisher to earn profit. A main budget is very
important when creating distributing a magazine as it is a main target that the whole team should
aim to keep when creating and designing the magazine.
Hand drawn drafts
Main image: Both of the front covers will
have a big main image that will stretch
across the whole page indicating what will
be in the magazine.
Strapline: The strapline will be located on
the top left side of the magazine making it
easy to read.
Masthead: The Masthead will be located at
the top of the pages where it will be clearly
and easily seen
Other content: All the other content on the
pages will be spread equally evading the
fact of overwhelming the reader but
making the text easy to read.
Hand drawn drafts (continued)
Main image: I have decided that another image that I took of
the subject will spread across the whole of one page while to
content will be located on the other page.
Text: The text of the interview will be located on the other
page but organized professionally so that the content is easy
and simply to read.
Quote: the quote will inform the reader that about the
content hat will be on the page for example, an artist that was
interviewed would have mentioned a key shocking part about
themselves and only part of this explanation will be in the
quote and this would encourage the reader to read the
interview in order to find out the answer.
Hand drawn drafts (continued)
Double page spread – The final one that I have chosen is my second
double page spread and this is due to how much more organized the
content is and it helps to make the pages look more professional.
However I would like to have one whole page of the double to have a
large main image and this would allow the audience to feel
comfortable when reading and not feel overwhelmed.
Graphic layout
Chosen front cover
I chose this front cover as the best choice for my TV
magazine as it portrays the genre and theme the best
compared to all the other front covers. This front cover,
because of its layout, allows the reader to consumer
snippets of information that will be illustrated in the
magazine causing the reader to buy the magazine in
order to find out what happens next in a interview or
short story. The model on the front cover will cover
almost the entire page and this is to catch the eye of an
unsuspecting customer who may want to read the
magazine.
Graphic drafts
Chosen Double page spread
Moreover, the DPS of the TV magazine will include a load
of text but not to much to overwhelm the reader but
instead just enough to make the read pleasant helping
the reader to enjoy the magazine and want to buy more
magazine fr0m the same provider. The images on this
page will also relate to the text on the pages making it
easier for the reader to decide whether or not they want
to read the text.

Unit 30 - LO2

  • 2. Music can be peoples inspiration or muse muse Keeping a record of what is happening in the music industry with music Some red but only with certain parts of the magazine in order to draw attention and stand out I will keep the magazine simple so that it looks more professional. Monthly circulation I would be able to get more information into the magazine as bands don’t tour all of the time which gives me more time to write about them The Masthead should be located near to the page number therefor making it easier to see Bold but effective due to its simplicity It would become a interest to that category as the magazine is rather simple and the audience is mature as they must be interested in rock in roll The main target audience is C2 and E Extended play extending your knowledge of the music industry which can include bands and artists EP Magazine ideas Masthead Color scheme frequency Brand identity Target audience
  • 3. I need to ensure that my magazine is inspiring to the reader Masthead Once again I believe that I should include red with black in order to make parts of the magazine stand out Color scheme I will also keep the magazine simple to make it easy to read and identify information in colours such as white Monthly circulation frequency Due to bands and artists not touring all the time I would have more time in order to include more information into the magazine The Masthead should be located at the top of the magazine as it should be the first thing to read Brand identity Target audience The audience would need to be mature and love music The main target audience is C2 and E Simple but effective as it makes the information stand out Magazine ideas I need to include bonus information which extends the information in the music industry
  • 4. Magazine of inspiration – Flat Bass This is my magazine of inspiration and as you can see the front cover looks very dramatic but also quite casual and this is one look of which I would like to keep when I create my magazine front cover. The front cover model of this magazine is Drake and I will be using my cousin as I feel his style and his look is like the audience that I would like to have reading my magazine and looking at the front cover. The colors in this image is stand out a lot more prominently compared to the background which is a lot more darker and duller this helps the content and text stand out a lot more of which I would like to keep on my front cover.
  • 5. Magazine of inspiration – TV This is my second magazine of inspiration and this front cover has a lot more colour and overall looks a lot more professional. The text on the page is bold and displayed in a simple font making it easy to read and understand. My cousin, who will be the model, is going to try to pose in a similar way to the model of this front cover and this will help to appeal to the reader encouraging them to buy the magazine. In order to fit my criteria and genre the pose will by a lot more casual which relates more to the audience that I want to attract. I chose this front cover due to its interesting pose and bright colours which depict mystery and leave a memory in the readers mind.
  • 6. Font Styles I like these fonts for my Masthead because they are simple and bold in order to catch the readers attention. Due to the fact that the fonts are bold makes it easy for the consumer to see and recognize which magazine it is. Also the majority of these fonts link to the style of music that will be inside the magazine.
  • 7. House style – Flat Bass • Colour scheme: My colour scheme will have black, red and white. This is because I believe that these colours will stand out the most but will also keep the magazine professional and simples. • Font style: My magazines font will be in American captain as I believe that is it is clear to read but also gives a hint of being professional. Furthermore, for my Masthead however I will be using the font knucklehead as I believe that it looks clear and easy to read but also will stand out to the consumer a lot more. The logo will be located at the bottom of every page and the masthead will be be located top left of each page making it more noticeable. • Social media: Flat Bass should be in synergy with social media as it would be able to then obtain more publicity and therefore get more consumers.
  • 8. House style - TV • Colour scheme: Another colour scheme that I would use would be black, red and yellow. The reason for this is because red and black are quite dark and evil colours and the yellow will connote that the magazine is not all evil as well as it will stand out a lot more. • Font style: Firstly, my magazines font will be Hotel de Paris due to the fact that the font sticks out of the page and looks like a font that would be in a magazine. For the Masthead however I would use the font Antique book cover as it looks a lot more professional than all the others but also makes the magazine look a bit more evil than a usual magazine. This time the Masthead will be on the left hand side of the page and the logo will be at the top right of the page making it the first thing you see when you open the page making it more memorable. • Social media: I also think that this magazine should be in synergy with social media as it would mean that more consumers will want to buy the magazine and the magazine will become more memorable. • Overall, the the front cover will be filled with colour and different sized texts in order to attract the readers attention and encourage them to buy the magazine.
  • 9. Steve Neale (1980) “Repetition and difference” • Steve Neale states that genres all contain instances of repetition and difference, difference is essential to the economy of the genre. • Neale states that the film and its genre are defined by two things: • A film must match the genres conventions to be identified as part of that genre. • The film must subvert convention enough to be considered unique and not just a clone of an existing film. • Overall what Neale is trying to say is that a film must match its genre in order to be unique otherwise the film is just like another film that is already existing.
  • 10. What am I going to repeat • For media texts to be successful they must have elements of “ repetition” and “difference”. • From the inspiration of the magazine XXL, I would keep the colour scheme of the logo shown in XXL as I believe that it stand out a lot more than the rest of the magazine. Also these colours seem to be repeated through out the music magazine industry and I would like to attract my readers in a similar way. Furthermore, I would be repeating a similar layout, which would include the main headline being located at the bottom of the front cover so that it doesn’t distract the reader from the main image being in this case Drake. Additionally, with a simple background being white gives the magazine a professional look and attracts more of the readers attention to the main image. • However I would like to change the colour of the main image so that it isn’t in black and white and that the colours aren’t so dull as I feel that this will allow the ain image to be seen a little better. • By completing these changes it will allow me to create a effective front cover and magazine that will attract the attention of as many people as possible. By doing this it will make the pitch of the magazine a lot easier to promote and therefore it will further increase the amount of sales and the amount of profit that is made for the production of the magazine.
  • 11. Mood Board 1 – Flat Bass
  • 12. Mood Board 2 - TV
  • 13. Mood Board conclusion • I have chosen to put a magazine cover of Kanye West on my mood board for NME as he is a highly known musician and this helps depict how NME use his face in order to grab the attention of the consumers. Also another magazine cover that I put on the Q magazine mood board is one with Cold play and the reason for this is because they are also a well known band that produces great music that satisfies millions of people around the world. The fact that the Q magazine producers decided to put the band on the front cover could be hinting to what is inside the magazine and when they will be touring.
  • 14. Summary – Flat Bass I have decided to pick Flat Bass as one of my magazines as I believe it looks a lot more casual compared to the other two and this helps to fit in with my audience a lot better promoting them to buy the magazine. The layout of the Flat Bass magazine looks more as if it includes content that is more formal but still casual compared to the other two magazines. As for the information itself, the content and font will stand out making it easier to read and absorb the information that is listed on the pages. Furthermore, the information will be on interviews to do with artists associated with the genre and overall gossip to do with the artists and musicians. Parts of the content will have information that will be relevant in the next magazine and the circulation will be monthly allowing for plenty of content to be shown and at an affordable price. The layout of the content is very precise and this is to help catch the readers eye in order to make them want to read on.
  • 15. Summary - TV I decided to pick the TV idea due to how much more professional it is compared to the other two and because of how professional it is, it makes the whole company look professional and it attract the attention of the audiences intended. Furthermore, I believe that the font and the style is a lot more interesting and memorable which is accentual to the sale of a good magazine filled with intriguing and sharp content. Also I prefer the layout of the TV and the fact that I will be including bonus information in order to keep the consumers attention and keep them coming back by leaving cliff hangers at certain parts. The consumers will also have taster information on what will be in the next magazine so that the magazine stays in memory. The color scheme of The TV idea is very distinct making it easy for the consumer to see and therefore absorb the information. The fact that the magazine is on monthly circulation allows for me to include a lot of juicy content that can be will make the consumer want to read more. Overall I prefer the TV idea as it has a lot better ideas and that will most certainly keep the consumers attention and take them away from any rival magazines.
  • 16. Audience theories • Hartley: Fictions of the audience allows a brand or a company to grab a sense of who their product will be sold to. Because of this it allows the brand and company to have a target audience that they can aim their product towards to ensure that the product will be effective and efficient. Regarding this to “Tempo” the target audience would be secondary schools students aged between 11-18 although the features and easy use can allow 18+ users such as teachers to use the application. For Pulse, however the target audience is primarily aimed at users aged from 18-25+ as the design and colour scheme appeals more to the older generation. The soothing colours of blue and grey help to attract the attention of older users through its strong contrast and professional features. Katz: Theory is to focus on the audience instead of the actual message that is portrayed across. An example of this would be “what people do on applications” instead of “what applications do to people” and by doing so the center of the product should be to make it relevant to the target audience as much as possible therefore encouraging them to buy it instead of buying the next best thing. https://sociologytwynham.com/2013/10/03/medi a-effects-on-audiences/
  • 17. Audience theories continued • Maslow: The Maslow theory indicates that audiences are attracted to media that satisfy their needs and this can be seen in texts and images over social media. Maslow’s hierarchy illustrates different circumstances that can occur in everyone's daily lives while social media provides a distraction that can please the viewer/reader. Regarding Tempo, the application will most likely be used the most during schools as the application provides an easy use of features and doesn't require a computer unless the user wishes to use the website. Because of this the features will be designed to satisfy the user through smooth movements and easy access without problems. • Socio-economic: The socio-economic needs suggest that certain people have higher paid jobs and because of this it determines what group they are in. For example, “Upper class” workers who are typically professional lawyers will roughly be earning ÂŁ50,000+ while a lower socio-economic group such as group E are normally students or casual workers who are earning from ÂŁ5,000 – ÂŁ7,000. For Tempo the website and application will be aimed at the group E audience as students and causal workers will be able to access the website and application with easy access. However due to the website and application being mainly a music based media product it is possible that it will relate to almost all the groups.
  • 18. Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday The date of publication will be decided on this day as well as everyone will work together in order to create a schedule of the work that needs to be done. The magazines editing team will be able to decide what contents will be going into the magazine and they will also decide what ever the biggest artist or biggest story/gossip is will be the main image on the front cover. At this point the “external” and “internal” writers will decide what content and graphics that will go into the magazine. This is a vital part of the magazine productions as they must look professional and relevant. Staff and Cost In order to ensure that my magazines are high quality and include great content I have decided to raise the salary by a couple thousand to ensure that the work in getting done and I will ensure that the candidates will be worth the money I am willing to pay for them. As you can see I have got a lot of different occupations for each job and this is to make sure that everything is done to a great quality and it also helps to reduce stress for the workers as not one of them has to do all the work. https://www.chron.com/jobs/?_ga=2.26251015 5.653682956.1524480022- 2139542973.1524480022

  • 23. Legal and Ethical Issues • A watermark also helps with the magazines copyright issue and this is due to how specific and complex the icon is. This icon can be seen as the magazine will have this icon and it will have a plethora of colours that can only be detected by a reflected light. An example of a watermarked image can be seen to the left. I would use this idea in my magazine and as you can see the image is created in a specific way such as the colours and shape can be traced back to the original image or video of which this image took place. In order to use this image you would need legal permission from the author to use the image.
  • 24. Legal and Ethical Issues • Also there is IP which stands for intellectual property and what this means is that you content and images are protected in order to stop people from stealing or using the images: • The names of products and brands • The inventions of the author • The design of the product and content • Things that are written, made or produced by the author. • Copyright issues are all IP protection purposes that must take place in order to stop people from stealing or using an authors content without their permission. • I will use this in my magazine so that my images and content wont be copied and used in other peoples work. • https://www.gov.uk/intellectual-property-an-overview
  • 25. Copyright • Copyright is a very important issue that could result in protecting the authors work so that it cannot be copied and used under another authors name. This copyright includes all the content in the magazine from images to the facts that have been researched. • This is relevant to “TV“ as I will release huge amounts of information every month and this copyright term helps to keep the content safe from being copied or stolen and used under the name of a different author. An example of this would be a famous artists such as Jay Z, Rihanna or my subject James Smith and their interview which has very specific information and content that no one else would be able to obtain in order to include in their own magazine. • Copy right will be very useful when used in my magazine as it will allow for the images to not be copied and used under the name of another artist.
  • 26. Regulatory & Legal, Ethical Issues • A watermark helps with any poster copyright issue due to how specific and complex the icon is. This icon can be seen as the posters unique symbol that is made up of a plethora of colours that can only be detected by a reflected light. • The Data Protection Act (DPA) was developed to control how personal a customers information is used by organizations or government bodies. It protects people and lays down rules about how data about people can be used. The DPA also applies to information or data stored on a computer or an organized paper filing system about living people. Organizations that do not adhere to the rules set out by DPA risk prosecution by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) where fines can reach up to ÂŁ500,000 and even imprisonment. • Ethical issues: When a festival poster is being produced it is very important that the company follows strict rules and consider consequences of its release. It is also important that the poster realizes the consequences of targeting a specific culture or religion that might seem vulnerable. If the brand does not consider ethic groups such as age, gender and sexual orientation then this can effect the brands reputation and lead the target audience to not buy or visit any of the brands tickets or events. This regarding Innovation leads to the conclusion that their brand does not have any copyright symbols on their logo. Their legal and ethical signs on their print based advertisement does not have
  • 27. Roles of regulatory bodies • The advertising Standards Authority (ASA): s a company who focuses there efforts towards targeting advertising all over the media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. They do this through advertising as in there words it is better to have advertising in media for the audiences rather than have media without advertising. ASA is sure to keep in contact with the media audiences as they carry out regulatory activities towards advertising to ensure that the media stays within the rules and is appropriate. Additionally, they also respond and take into consideration the audiences complaints. • Ofcom: mainly focuses on ensuring that audiences have help with communication services and are protected by scams. Ofcom also tries to encourage other competitive services in the UK in order to keep all the overpowering service providers within the legislations and rules to keep the content appropriate and relevant. This also allows for the smaller services to follow the larger services in a similar way. The Ofcom organisation mainly runs off of answers to questions that are answers by a board of directors that will help to keep the audiences and services within the right rules. • https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom • https://www.asa.org.uk/about-asa-and-cap/about-regulation.html
  • 28. Budget In order to ensure that the magazine is a success it is always important for a Distributer and publisher to have a budget. By having a budget put in place helps to ensure that the publisher does not exceed a certain price limited. This is particularly important as it will give the publisher an accurate estimate for the amount of profit the magazine will obtain once distributed in stores and online. With all of this in mind, I decided to keep my budget below ÂŁ500,000 so that the magazine looks and feels professional to the reader. These characteristics will also help to encourage the consumer to buy the magazine and help the publisher to earn profit. A main budget is very important when creating distributing a magazine as it is a main target that the whole team should aim to keep when creating and designing the magazine.
  • 29. Hand drawn drafts Main image: Both of the front covers will have a big main image that will stretch across the whole page indicating what will be in the magazine. Strapline: The strapline will be located on the top left side of the magazine making it easy to read. Masthead: The Masthead will be located at the top of the pages where it will be clearly and easily seen Other content: All the other content on the pages will be spread equally evading the fact of overwhelming the reader but making the text easy to read.
  • 30. Hand drawn drafts (continued) Main image: I have decided that another image that I took of the subject will spread across the whole of one page while to content will be located on the other page. Text: The text of the interview will be located on the other page but organized professionally so that the content is easy and simply to read. Quote: the quote will inform the reader that about the content hat will be on the page for example, an artist that was interviewed would have mentioned a key shocking part about themselves and only part of this explanation will be in the quote and this would encourage the reader to read the interview in order to find out the answer.
  • 31. Hand drawn drafts (continued) Double page spread – The final one that I have chosen is my second double page spread and this is due to how much more organized the content is and it helps to make the pages look more professional. However I would like to have one whole page of the double to have a large main image and this would allow the audience to feel comfortable when reading and not feel overwhelmed.
  • 33. Chosen front cover I chose this front cover as the best choice for my TV magazine as it portrays the genre and theme the best compared to all the other front covers. This front cover, because of its layout, allows the reader to consumer snippets of information that will be illustrated in the magazine causing the reader to buy the magazine in order to find out what happens next in a interview or short story. The model on the front cover will cover almost the entire page and this is to catch the eye of an unsuspecting customer who may want to read the magazine.
  • 35. Chosen Double page spread Moreover, the DPS of the TV magazine will include a load of text but not to much to overwhelm the reader but instead just enough to make the read pleasant helping the reader to enjoy the magazine and want to buy more magazine fr0m the same provider. The images on this page will also relate to the text on the pages making it easier for the reader to decide whether or not they want to read the text.
