Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
Males aged 10-18
Spider-man is typically targeted at a
younger audience, this could be due
to the fact that the protagonist is
often younger than most other
heroes.
• Secondary Audience
Males aged 18-30
Due to the success of the marvel
cinematic universe Spider-man is
more likely to attract an audience
within this age range even if it isn’t
affiliated with the Marvel Cinematic
Universe.
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
Males aged 18-30
Cars and guns are used in the
poster which are traditionally
more appealing to a male
audience
• Secondary Audience
Females aged 18-30
The colour pink is typically
associated with love which is
traditionally more appealing to a
female audience
Hypodermic Needle
• Definition
– Where the audience immediately believes what it
is told by the media
• Example
– The 1938 radio broadcast “War of the Worlds”
supposedly caused American audiences to panic
believing the invasion to be real.
Uses and Gratifications Information
I use google to research information, fact check
and learn from multiple sources.
Uses and Gratifications Personal
Identity
One might see a celebrity as an aspirational
figure in the media and strive to be more like
them.
Uses and Gratifications Integration and
Social Interaction
I use Instagram for communicating with friends.
Uses and Gratifications Entertainment
I use youtube for entertainment as it can
provide hours of free, interesting, and enjoyable
content.
Consumer Generated Content
• Example
– Youtube is a site that thrives off consumer generated
content
• What are the advantages to media producers?
– Media producers can share content such as trailers
easier and to a larger audience over something like
youtube than they could on regular TV.
• Why would the audience generate content?
– Because it gives them a platform to reach other
people with their ideals, there is also frequently some
sort of financial incentive.
Psychographics
• Belongers
Belongers are people who want to fit in with the people around them.
Trending products such as the “I love you” pendant that went viral on
the internet might appeal to this psychographic
• Achievers
Achievers are people who are very ambitious, they also tend to be
materialistic and purchase expensive items, an example of a product
this psychographic may want is the latest smartphone
• Emulators
Emulators are people who want to be Achivevers but lack the skillset
or work ethic, they tend to make large purchases they can’t afford and
buy knock off products. Similar to Achievers these people might wish
to have the latest smartphone however may go for the “lite” version of
the phone to save money.
Psychographics
• Balanced
Balanced people stive to make as much money as they can but then spend it on
benefitting mankind. A product that might appeal to this psychographic could be the
“Little Sun Solar Light” which aims to provide sustainable energy and light to people in
countries that might not otherwise have access to the energy
• Needs Driven
Needs Driven people struggle with money management, they purchase items on
impulse as they feel they need it. Products that might appeal to this psychographic
include computer parts and other items that are frequently on sale
• Socially Conscious
- A: They aim to achieve greatness for the world as a whole and go out of their way
to help others and the world around them, an example of a product these people
might want is a reusable metal water bottle
- B: These people try to be as self-sufficient as possible and se nothing but doom for
the human race. They also tend to have strong opinions about large scale
production of materials. These people might wish to purchase something like
beehives to keep their own bees providing both help to the environment via
pollination and also allowing the harvesting of honey.
