Product 1
This product is made interesting by several things; Firstly,
the eye-catching feature article photo looks delicious and
might make someone buy the magazine so they can try it.
Secondly, the layout uses green as a highlight colour, this
is used throughout in the cover notably in the masthead,
subheadings and the plug, it is also used in the picture
with the limes and avocado, this ties everything together
and makes the cover feel very well put together.
additionally, the magazine uses quantities such as “95
great recipes” and current events with the plug “Plus a
15-page world cup special” to grab the potential buyer’s
attention, the word “Plus” is also a buzz word as it
implies that the reader is getting more for their money.
Finally, the designer used celebrity names such as Gino
D’Acampo and The Hairy Bikers to sell the magazine to
people who are already fans of the celebrities’ or their
recipes.

Product 2
This product uses colour to great effect, it uses red
and yellow for both text and the food, this allows for
the magazine to feel complete. The masthead is
written in a simple, large, and easy to read font
allowing for recognition at a glance, also the name
“Food” gives a very clear impression of what is going
to be covered in the magazine. The magazine uses
buzz words such as “perfect” and “sumptuous” this
might make a reader more likely to buy it. One thing
that this product doesn’t do great is, some of the text,
specifically under the subheading “NOCHE BUENA
GAME PLAN”, is difficult to read due to it being white
text over a light background, however, this might not
be as big of an issue when printed.

Product 3
Product 3 has a Christmas theme; the feature article
photo encapsulates this well by using the shape of a
Christmas tree, furthermore the cake has red and green
meringue adorning its surface, these colours are
commonly associated with Christmas. The layout uses
white text which stands out on the copper background.
Interestingly this magazine has no masthead, I am unsure
as to why this is the case but felt it was notable, not
having a masthead makes the brand of magazine difficult
to identify and leaves a large empty space which makes
the cover feel unfinished. The plug for this magazine is
also interesting as I would say it is the orange circle that
states, “recipes always work”, this might get people who
are new to cooking and baking interested in buying this
magazine as it supposedly guarantees success.
5. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– They all link colours between the text and the
food
– They all feature a singular centre dish.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
– I will use my research on the use of colour and
linking it to the cover photo to make the magazine
feel well put together
7. Audience Profile

specifically target a single gender specifically
as cooking is for everyone

Socially conscious

• Due to the magazine including recipes this
psychographic might respond to it well.
