- 55% preferred villains to heroes, so the magazine cover could feature both
- Action was the most popular genre, followed by comedy and horror, so an action magazine may attract audiences
- All respondents watched films, so a film-focused magazine could have a large target audience
- All respondents were male, so the magazine should have male-oriented content
- Most respondents were teenagers or young adults, so the target audience should be those demographics
Evaluation question 4
Our target audience for the psychological thriller film is 15-25 year olds, as the genre interests young people due to its suspenseful and mysterious plots. We will classify the film as a 15 due to some disturbing content, though it is not overly explicit like many 18 rated thrillers. Young people are more likely to watch for entertainment, escapism during stressful life periods, emotional release, and social interaction around analyzing complex plots. The film also aims to attract slightly more females than males, at 60-40, as psychological thrillers focus more on emotional rather than physical struggles, though males can still relate through protagonists of either gender. The film has no specific geographical target as themes of the mind are universal.

- 2. “How did you attract/ address your audience?” This is the typical audience I found when researching the post-apocalyptic genre: Post apocalyptic Genre Gender: Male Age: 35-54 Social grade: ABC1 Top Region: North West Interests: Movies, Music, International News Online For: 20-35 hrs per week Entertainment: Action, Adventure, Sci-fi, and some comedy I used this as a baseline to attract my audience, (Yougov)
- 3. Surveys from audiences Man – age 20 Man – age 14 Woman – age 32
- 4. • These are surveys I took to gain responses for my opening scene. I included responses from lots of different ages and genders to compare with my research for the post- apocalyptic genre. • Most of the people I asked said overall my scene was 'good' or 'okay' letting me know that some improvement could be needed. Man – age 76 Woman – age 17
- 5. What do you think it’s about? • All the people asked got some sort of the plot correct; i.e. the story is set in the future and is about a young girl trying to cope because of this. • Overall the woman 17 and the man 76 got the most correct answers with doesn’t really correspond with my research which suggest that males aged 35- 54 are the typical for this genre in terms of the woman, however it does correspond with the answer for the male. • However, because I adjusted my opening scene to suit a younger audience (18- 24) I guess this was successful as the young woman was correct when answering this question.
- 6. Can you tell which genre it is? • Only 2 people guessed somewhat wrong however my opening scene could be considered to have some aspects of these anyway so in general all my surveys were correct. • When talking about my age range and potential audience in evaluation 4 I mentioned that fans of the post-apocalyptic genre also enjoy action, adventure and sci-fi so that fact that people thought these were the genres anyway had no effect of the attraction of the audience.
- 7. Which is your favourite part? • Most of the feedback suggests they like the most edited, tense parts or the unusual shots I included. Some of them are shown right. • This suggests that I filmed these shots well and they worked well with the story overall. • There seems to be no correlation between the gender or age of the people questioned as to which part they liked.
- 8. What could I do to improve? • Most of the survey takers said that to improve I could’ve improved either the flashback or the voiceover. • To improve the flashback I would make the colours brighter to make the flashback more obvious. For the voiceover I would speak louder, clearer and slower to improve the tense atmosphere and allow the audience to understand the story better. • Again age or ender doesn’t really reflect here, however the woman 17 was the only one confused with the timer which was meant to reflect the point of death for that character. I would also make this clearer or make it into a camera as if one of the characters is recording the other.
