The survey results provide both positive and mixed feedback on the audience test of a movie title sequence:
- The gender and age demographics reached were fairly balanced, though younger families were underrepresented. Over 50% of respondents were aged 16-18 or 35+, fitting the intended family audience.
- 91% of respondents fit the target social classification of C1-E grades, showing the right social demographic was reached, even if they may not have families.
- 92% correctly identified the genre from visual and audio elements, but some optional answers like "teens" were selected too, showing not all ages may have been appealed to.
- Respondents largely found the 120 second length and genre-fitting audio
Target audience research for A2 Media production Film Posterbobonthedrums
In this task I conducted a questionnaire in to what people within my target audience think about films posters so I have a greater of what I need to do within my own poster for it to be conventional.
Target audience research for A2 Media production Film Posterbobonthedrums
In this task I conducted a questionnaire in to what people within my target audience think about films posters so I have a greater of what I need to do within my own poster for it to be conventional.
This questionnaire was constructed to allow me to gain a better understanding of the demographics of my target audience. I was able to identify the audiences expectations for thriller films and psychological thriller films through the use of qualitative and quantitative data responses which will influence the way that my media product will be constructed because I am aware of my target audiences needs.
1. Audience Feedback Results
My intended targetaudience isaverydiverse groupof peopleinage andgenderand therefore the
firsttwoquestionsallowme toestablish whetheritreachedouttothem. As the above graph onthe
righthand side showsIreceivedafairlyequal genderbalance whichI’msatisfiedwithasitmeansI’ll
receive bothanhonestviewpointandvaluableinput frombothparties.Overall the majorityof my
respondentsbasedonage were either16-18 (50%) or 35+ (42%) withonly8% beingunder15. These
resultsprovide me withmixedfeelings;onone handthose overthe age of 35 will mostlikelyhave
familiesandthose under18will still be livingathome meaningthey’ll sittogetherwithparentsof an
eveningtowatcha movie,whichismyintendedaudience.Howeveronthe otherhand,I have no
inputfromthe ‘youngergenerationfamilies’ makingthe surveyslightlybiased.AnotheraspectIdid
not considerwhendesigningthe surveywaswhetherthose overthe age 25 evenhada familyof
theirown,meaningthatmyolderrespondentsmaynotevenbe mytargetcore demographic.
Early onduringthe pre-production
stagesI decidedthatmycore
demographicwouldbe those
betweenthe C1to E grade social
classification,basedonmyresearch
intothe viewingfiguresof TV shows
and moviesthatfollowedasimilar
theme tomy ownproduct.
Therefore I’msatisfiedwiththe
response tothisparticularquestion
as 91% of respondentsfitwithinthis
classification,meaningmytarget
social demographic- eventhough
theymay nothave families-are the
onesresponding.
2. The followingquestionallowedme todetermine
whetherIhad conveyedthe rightvisual andaudio
aspectsinorder forpeople todistinguishthe genre
of movie mytitle sequence is representing.Basedon
the followingresultsI’msatisfiedthatIincorporated
the correct elementsinorderforitto be apparentas
92% of respondentsansweredcorrectly.Onthe
otherhand however,Imayhave incorporatedother
optional answersthatwouldnotevenbe considered
and shouldhave thereforemade itanopen ended
questioninordertoget a fairopinion. Thisisbased
on the fact that 35% believedittobe aimedat teens
betweenthe agesof 14-19 eventhoughthe answer
was suppliedwithinthe genre theychose togofor in
the previousquestion.Overall 42% of people
believedittobe aimedat those under19 meaning
that I’ve notdesigneditinsucha way that itwould
appeal totheirage group.
Whendesigningmysequence I
wantedthe audioaspectto relate
to boththe theme of the movie as
well asthe visual elementsinsucha
waythat it was relatable towhat
the audience were seeing.
Therefore I’msatisfiedwiththe
resultof thisquestionas100% of
respondentsbelieveditconveyed
the genre I wasintendingto
represent.Overall mostpeople
agreedthat it‘setthe mood and
was a positive representationof the
genre’.Howeverafewpeoplebelievedthatalthoughitsuitedthe genre itwasslightlymelancholic
and couldhave beenslightlymore upbeat- althoughI’ll take thisall intoconsideration, itwasnotmy
original intentionwhendesigningthe sequence.
3. Duringthe primaryresearchstagesI discoveredthatsubjectsbelievedasequence of twominutesor
lesstobe a suitable;keepingthisinmindIdesignedmyproducttobe 120 secondsexact.Having
done so,I wantedto findoutwhetherrespondentsstill foundthistobe true.Overall I’msatisfied
withthe resultsas85% believeditbe the perfectlength,whilstonly15% were dissatisfied.Keeping
inmindthe resultsfrommy primaryresearchinregards,15% equatestothe same numberof people
whodo not enjoytitle sequences.
The followingquestionIbelieve tobe
the most important- agood
sequence thathasmetthe needsof
the audience will leave themwanting
more and witha desire tocontinue
watchingthe movie inwhichit
conveys.Overall 71% saidyes whilst
the other29% were eitherunsure or
saidmaybe. Lookingbackon my
surveythese are twoverysimilar
answersandI therefore shouldhave
onlyincorporatedone inorderto
gathermore straightforwardresults.
AspectsthatI have to considerfor
those 29% are whethertheywere my
target audience andtheywere left
dissatisfiedorif Ihad askeda fewof the wrong people thatdonotfitin withthe targeted
demographic. The 71% whichdidsay yesisa positive resultasitmeansthatmy producthas met its
intentionsinordertosatisfyaudiences.
