Introduction
I have done some audience research, which enables
me to see what my target audience want to see. I
started by doing a questionnaire which is a primary
source of research. I went round asking 10 different
people general open questions on house music as I
used open questions I got quick and easy responses,
I only got numeric data. With these results I can start
the beginnings for a target audience profile and also
start plan what my magazine may look like
Question 1 – Age
• For the most part the age ranged between 16 – 18 this is mostly due to the fact I
had my questionnaire during college times. This perhaps wasn’t very ideal as I
would have gotten a more border result if I asked around in public, however it’s
not too bad as I wanted my audience to be around that age group anyway so now
I have an idea on what font and style to use
Questinon 2 Gender
• Within my questionnaire I of course asked if they were male or female, from my
results I could so the majority of house audience were in fact female as seen from
the pie chart below, I actually was expecting more males nevertheless I can now
keep that in mind when creating my magazine
Question 3 Occupation
• The question enables me to get to really know my target audience more and learn
about their lifestyle from this I found out that 70% of the students who took the
questionnaire are employed and would be able to afford my magazine without a
problem, however I only asked college students which isn't as good as the general
public
Question 4 Ethnicity
• In my music magazine questionnaire I asked what ethnicity everyone was and as I
suspected it was predominantly white leaving Arabic and oriental Asians as a
minority
Ethnicity
White
Black
Mixed
Oriental
Other
Question 5 Do they work?
I have asked my audience whether they work
or not, as we can see from the pie chart 2
thirds of the people do have part time work, I
was expecting these results as most students
do work along side college for money. I feel
though it would have been more of a fair
result if I had asked people outside of college.
Question 6 What age did they
get into house music
In this question I asked at what age did people
get into house, I predicted the results fairly
accurately as I believed it was around young
teens was when most people got into House
Question 7 What setting did they
prefer Nightclub or Studio?
As the pie chart shows the nightclub setting
was more popular among the general
populous, I was expecting as much because
I had asked a very young audience of people
who like to go out every other weekend not
only that but nightclubs are really where
House music is played at its best.
Question 8 What colour scheme
was the most popular?
The black and purple was the most popular
colour scheme this is probably because the black
would represent the nightclub and the purple the
lasers, however I was a bit surprised as I would
have imagined the green or red to be more
popular because these tend to be the colours
which lasers are in nightclubs. Perhaps if I had
asked more people or a different audience I
would have gotten the results I was looking for.
Question 9 What gender DJ did
they prefer Male or Female?
For the most part it is clear that a male DJ is
preferred, however I was a bit surprised as a lot
of the girls who took part in the questionnaire
said they preferred a male DJ as well it wasn’t
just boys. A few people said that they didn’t
mind which also interested me as I didn’t think
that some people in fact didn’t care if the DJ
was a boy or girl.
Question 10 Which festival would
they have gone to if they could?
This was an interesting
question for me as I really had
no idea what the general
audience would have picked
and as expected the results
were surprising. As seen in the
pie chart ‘Tomorrowland’ was
the most popular, I was sort of
expecting this to be as
‘Tomorrowland’ Is renowned
to be the #1 EDM festival in
the world. However I didn’t
think ‘Creamfields’ would have
beaten ‘Miami Ultra fest’.
Perhaps this is because we live
in the UK and ‘Creamfields’ is
more local
