The document analyzes company idents in movie trailers for three films: Submarine, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, and Titanic. For Submarine and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, which had full trailers, there were 2-3 brief (1-2 second) still image idents with white text on black backgrounds. For the Titanic teaser trailer, there were two idents at the very beginning, one lasting 4 seconds and the other overlapping at 2 seconds, identifying 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm as producer and distributor. Based on this research, the conclusion is that a teaser trailer should have at least two idents with dark backgrounds and prominent

As this is a full trailer the conventions may be different from a teaser
trailer.
The film had 3 idents and each one lasted for a second and it came up
after one scene from the trailer. The idents were all still images and were
very simple. This worked as the focus of the trailer is on the film however
the idents still stood out as it was white text on a black background.
The Weinstein Company distributed the film whilst Film 4 produced the
film and the UK Film Lottery funded the production.

3. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
Again the trailer for this was a full trailer and not a teaser trailer and
so the conventions may be different.
The film had 2 idents and the first one came up 5 seconds into the
film after being introduced to the main character. The Paramount
trailer was a full ident as it had the movement and it lasted 2 seconds.
Straight after the Nickelodeon movies ident came up and lasted for 1
second.
Nickelodeon movies produced the film and Paramount distributed the
film.

4. Titanic
For this film there was an actual teaser trailer and so the idents will
conform to the conventions and so it is a good film to look at.
The film has two idents and they are the first thing that the
audience sees when the teaser starts. The first one lasted four
seconds and it was a reduced version of the ident that they have at
the beginning of films. The ident was then overlapped with the
next ident that lasted two seconds.
The first ident was for 20th Century Fox and this along with
Lightstorm produced it. 20th Century Fox distributed the film.
However, there were other companies that weren’t mentioned.

5. Conclusions
From the research I feel that we will need at
least two idents in our film as the films a I
looked at had either 2 or three. However, the
ones that had 2 idents were full trailers whilst
the teaser trailer only had 2 and so it is best to
base it on this one. I noticed that all the idents
had dark backgrounds with an image and so this
is something to take into account whilst creating
the ident.
