2. Codes and conventions
One of the codes and conventions I found when watching the trailer of
Forrest Gump was dramatic music. This was used to create excitement
and tension and to entice the audience. Another code and convention I
found was the outlining of main characters. This outlining of main
characters was used in order to conform to the legal requirements of a
film trailer and to highlight star appeal. Voiceover was another code
and convention of the film trailer. A voiceover was used to illustrate the
narrative of the film to the audience.
3. Combination
The element of diegetic music and the element of a medium close up
shot of the main character when he is running combine to create an
overall impression of the main character.
4. 1) Type of Trailer
The film trailer is not a teaser trailer, it is a theatrical trailer as it is not
between 30-60 seconds long but it is actually just under 4 minutes
long. Also this trailer contained a lot of content from the film unlike
teaser trailers which only contain a little content of the film.
5. 2) Main Discussion
2a) The trailer starts off by showing “The following PREVIEW has been
approved by all audiences……” This is to make the film look like a film which
is suitable for whole families and friends to watch together, giving
encouragement for feeling comfortable whilst watching the movie together.
2b) The film’s genre is drama and I know this because I believe I wrote on
Google ‘TV Dramas’ (along that line) and this movie called ‘Forrest Gump’
came up. The genre codes and conventions of having real life situations with
realistic settings and stories portrays a journey of character development,
social interaction and a dramatic storyline. The ‘iconography’ in this trailer
are the following; suit, shirt, street, the typography of blue and black links
with the costume of the main character. Special effects are used to make the
film look more like a journey.
