This proposal is for an educational and entertaining turn-based Viking strategy game. The student will create a short animation and poster/box cover to showcase an original game concept. Skills from past projects include improved character animations and realistic reactions to actions. The proposed game concept allows the player to create a Viking character and work to strengthen their clan and defend their town from other villages while learning about historical Viking events through cutscenes. Weapons and interactions are designed to both educate and entertain the player. Upon completion, the student will evaluate the project based on play time and surveys to determine how to improve and add more key features to make the scene feel more Viking-like.

The main area of my project will be a short animation of an original game concept
focused with some graphic design to make a poster and a box cover.
Projects, I have done in the recent year would firstly be my final project from last
year, and also some small animations I experimented with during the summer. The
skills I’ve acquired from these would be the improvements I’ve made with my
characters and the animations behind them. Additionally, I’ve learnt about the way
characters can interact with the surrounding and how specific objects would be
affected from a character’s actions. For example, an explosion would send a shock
wave that would move a hanging light back and forth. These would impact my
project since it would have realistic reactions to actions made.
My concept for this project is going to be an educational and entertaining Viking
turn-based strategy game. You would be able to create your own Viking character at
the start of the game who would follow our journey. Depending on relationships
with others and your stats you would be able to gather followers and make clan York
stronger and improve your town. You can also conquer nearby towns and villages to
improve your sphere of influence whilst also making sure York is properly defended
otherwise it would be game over.
The game would be educational since I would include different historical events that
York has been involved in. I would achieve this by having different cut-scenes that
would show the Vikings close-up and give detail to either who they are or what they
achieved. For the entertainment value, I would include fun interactions and
characters that would purely be there for either comedy or enjoyment. Additionally,
I would make the in-game weapons customisable to they feel more personal to the
character you’ve go. There will be weapons that are historically accurate and also
those which are there to make the player laugh and have an enjoyable experience.
When I complete my project, I would evaluate the piece by looking at the play time
shown and reflecting on how it could be improved to show more key features and
what I could add to make the scene feel more Viking like. On the other hand, if
there’s something I believe I’ve missed I can give a short survey to those who’ve
played the game.
