Current cancer scenarios in India include approximately 2-2.5 million existing cases, with 7-9 lakh new cases and 3 lakh deaths annually. The National Cancer Control Program was established in 1975 and revised in 1984-85 and 2004 to address gaps in cancer care facilities across the country. The NCCP focuses on primary, secondary and tertiary prevention through various schemes like the Regional Cancer Centers scheme and the District Cancer Control Programme, as well as health education, screening, and tobacco control legislation.
