2. Process
Before college:
• I started the production in the easter holidays. I
had planned to record in multiple locations in the
free time in the 2 weeks off of college. The first
week was planned to be filmed in York city centre
and the second week in Scarborough. Both weeks
would also have time to record at home.
• I was planning to record using the GoPro as it fits
my 1st person view more. Unfortunately, the
GoPro I was using for college wasn’t recording
using the micro SD card college gave me so I had
to buy my own from Amazon. This meant I had to
wait almost a week to record the content I
wanted to.
• The 2nd week of the holidays, I brought the
GoPro with me to Scarborough but I never
actually used it so all my content ended up being
filmed at home.
3. Process
Day 1: 25/4
• The first day back from easter, I spent the start
of the day downloading the footage off of the
GoPro onto the computer, then onto OneDrive
as to not lose the footage.
• I then organised it into the different branches
of the ‘Choose your own adventure’ as to
mentally organise what clips needed to be
used. I did this on Adobe Premiere Pro as I am
the most used to this software for video
editing.
• There was no useable audio on the recordings
of the GoPro so I posted the long clip of all I
recorded for the FMP onto YouTube for me to
record separate to the video.
4. Process
Day 2: 26/4
• On the Tuesday, I went to record the audio for
the videos. I recorded multiple times for
different parts as I had no definitive script and
was trying to remember the words I used when I
recorded the videos before.
• I recorded the audio in a separate quiet meeting
room on the ground floor of college. This was so
I could get the least amount of interference. I
used the college sound recorder as it would
have a better quality of sound compared to if I
used my phone for the recording.
• Once I had recorded the audio, I then
downloaded them off the audio recorder and
saved them on the computer and OneDrive too
as to not lose them.
• I then started to edit the first video with the
audio together. I did this using the Premiere Pro
software as my videos were already on there.
5. Process
Day 3: 27/4
• On Wednesday, I finished editing my first video
of the 4 that I had recorded. It would be the
starting video where the first choice would be
made.
• I added a special effect in the video to simulate
the blinking of someone waking up from
sleeping. I did this by making an inverted eye
shaped mask and change the shape to simulate
blinking. I also added a blur when the shape
opened up to make this more realistic. I then
timed both of these up and scheduled them to
look like realistic blinking. I did all this by
following a YouTube tutorial that I looked up as I
didn’t know how to do this skill before.

Day 4: 3/5
• Since Monday was a bank holiday, we came back
on Tuesday. This day, I focussed on completing
the second video.
• I used a couple similar techniques for this video.
For example, I used the blinking again. But for
this part, I used it to transition between two
different clips filmed at different times.
• I also used the blur effect paired up with the
blinking as before, but also as the camera pans
up to look in the direction of the window to
simulate the eye strain of the bright light.
• I also had to sync the audio I had previously
recorded with the video as to make it seem as if
it was recorded at the same time.
7. Process
Day 5: 4/5
• On Wednesday, I started working on the third of
the four videos.
• This video was around 2.5 mins but I cut down
some at the start and the end to shorten it.
• The 3rd video is also 2 different videos together
as they were filmed at different times. To add a
change to the previous videos, I used a dip to
black effect to go in and out of the videos as a
transition. To keep familiarity, I also used the
blur effect coming back in on the second clip.
• I also decided that I should create thumbnails
for the videos so that when they are on
YouTube, they look professional and uniform. I
started planning what they would look like
before taking the photos at home over the break
between the Wednesday and the Monday
coming back.
8. Process
Day 6: 9/5
• After I came back from taking the photos over
the weekend, I downloaded them off the
camera that I borrowed from college.
• Whilst the photos were downloading, I started
working on the 4th final video. The initial
content I filmed and sound recorded for this was
6 and a half minutes so I had to cut that down
drastically. The final cut ended up being under 2
minutes of content.
• This actually took quite a while as all of the
content was relevant to the video but I had to
cut it down so that I would not be over the
length limit for all of the videos combined. I was
still a bit over the suggested total length but it
was a big difference compared to if I hadn’t cut
down 6 mins of total content.
9. Process
Day 7: 10/5
• On Tuesday, I finished up on the final video. I
edited it to look like it was all one video. I did
this by having a black fade out and back in to
merge two different clips that had similar looks.
This way, I could cut the content in between it to
cut down the time. I also used a fade to black as
the door closed at the end to cut out the rest of
the content afterwards.
• I also had to edit all the audio to match the
video clips I had used as I recorded the full 6 and
a half minutes in audio.
• After I had finished all 4 videos, I checked over
all of them to make sure that they were all how I
liked them to be and had no issues. I then
exported them off of Premiere Pro as videos
with sound.
• Afterwards, I posted them onto YouTube and set
the options to be ‘Unlisted’ as the only way to
access them would be the starting video which
had the first choices in.
10. Process
Day 8: 11/5
• On Wednesday, I made the thumbnails for my
YouTube videos. I did this on Adobe Photoshop as
it is my most used software for photos.
• I used the photos that I had taken the week prior
to this and downloaded on the Monday. I
followed the plan that I had made the week
before but made a few different changes to it as I
could do things differently on Adobe Photoshop
compared to on Microsoft PowerPoint.
• I had to edit the placement of the choice overlays
so that it wouldn’t be covered when on YouTube.
I did this by trial and error a few times by
uploading them onto the video and slightly
altering the placement. I then ended up on this
final design choice which is still very similar to the
initial plan.
