2. Age & Gender
Age: 16-19
As my magazine will be a student magazine, my target audience will be
attending college, meaning that they will be between the ages of 16 and 19.
Within my magazine there will be stories from people at the college about
meeting new people and joining societies, how to cope with stress from
homework and exams, and tips about how to get the most you can from
the college. Therefore, I think that my magazine would suit this age group
best.
Gender: Any
My magazine focuses on celebrating and accepting peoples’ differences, so
by creating a magazine that is aimed at all genders, it will make everyone
feel included. I also feel that magazines aimed at a certain gender are very
stereotypical of that gender, so by aiming my magazine at everyone, my
target audience won’t feel the need to follow conventions. In addition, it
doesn’t matter what gender they are, as all students are going through the
same struggles and challenges.
3. Social Class & Marital/Family Status
Social Class: AB
The general social class of Solihull is AB, and as the majority of students at
this college live in or near to Solihull I feel like this would be the most
suitable social class for my target audience. However, as the premise of my
magazine is celebrating diversity, it won’t actively exclude people of other
social classes.
Marital/Family Status: Single, Living with Parents/Guardians
My target audience will most likely be single, as they are young and many
won’t be interested in a relationship at this point in their life. Whilst some
students will be in relationships now or in the future, the majority are single.
In terms of the target audiences’ family status, they will most likely be living
with one or both of their parents/guardians, as this is conventional for this
age group.
4. Lifestyle
My target audience tries their best in every task that they’re given, and
works hard to achieve the best that they can in any situation. This can
sometimes cause them to stress about doing well, but along with support
from family and friends, they remind themselves that they can only do their
best.
As they are a teenager, their hobbies include: listening to music, catching up
on the latest TV shows, playing video games, and meeting up with friends
(all activities common of people within this age group).
Starting at the college was nerve-wracking for them, as there are so many
more people than at senior school. However, they have managed to make
some new friends in their courses and are still able to meet up with their
old ones. Whilst they have began to settle in at the college, some tips and
advice on how to keep up to date with coursework, joining societies, and
making sure they get the most out of the college would be useful.
