Essay about Abraham Lincoln
22 Aug. 2009
Abraham Lincoln Hero or Racist?
Abraham Lincoln is arguably one of the most interesting presidents in the history of the United States.
Any research done on Lincoln will show, whether you agree or disagree with his philosophies, that he
was, and still is, a fascinating historical figure. There have been numerous discussions regarding
Lincoln before the Civil War, during the war as Commander In Chief, or his views on slavery and
racial equality; furthermore, vast debates on his views, strategies, and solutions regarding events that
helped shape our nation. Abraham Lincoln is such an interesting person that discussions and debates
will lead to more questions open to more discussion and debate. What was Lincoln s view on ... Show

He still did not think blacks should have the right to vote, hold political offices, or marry white people.
He also still believed physical differences between the two races would prevent them from living
together socially and politically (186). Lincoln was against whites benefitting from slave labor and did
feel that blacks should be able to benefit from the fruits of their own labor. According to Dinesh D
Souza in her article Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite, or Consummate Statesman , he was not,
however, an abolitionist. Abolitionists wanted an immediate end to slavery and believed the rights of
slaves should not be compromised and that they had a duty to defend freedom, unreservedly, and
careless of the consequences (3).
What was the reason behind the Civil War? According to Carter G. Woodson and Charles H. Wesley,
when the Civil War started, Lincoln, in order to stay on the good side of supporters who had voted him
into office, publicly stated that he did not want to interfere with the slavery in the South ( The Negro
in the Civil War 361). Contrary to claims that he did not approve of slavery, Lincoln clearly
compromised the rights of slaves to be free in order to appease supporters of slavery by evading the
subject of slavery in the South. D Souza also asserts that Lincoln stated in correspondence to Andrew
Stephens, the former vice president of the Confederacy, that while we think it is wrong, and ought to
be restricted, it was not his intention to get

Pharmacy Vs Jackrabbit Pharmacy
What better way to learn about the pharmacy profession than from two SDSU alumni in the university
s own pharmacy? I had the opportunity to learn from Melanie Lunn and Tasha Rausch in the unique
environment that the Jackrabbit Pharmacy brings. I was able to compare and contrast this pharmacy
with the retail pharmacy I work in. The Jackrabbit Pharmacy has a unique patient population and
location which leads to many of these differences. Located on a college campus with a majority of the
patients being young adults, maintaining confidentiality can be an issue. One issue that Melanie
commonly faces is concerned parents calling regarding their child s prescription. Since the passing of
HIPAA, eighteen year olds have the right to keep their health information from their parents. As a
pharmacist, one should be mindful of the information that is discussed with parents of college aged
students. This can be difficult because parents do not always want to abide by this law. While
shadowing at the pharmacy, I saw another potential issue with patient confidentiality. If the pharmacy
were to hire a student intern or clerk, that student could learn about the medical conditions and
medications that his or her friends have. It would be very easy to breach HIPAA and, therefore, a
liability. Luckily, I don t think the pharmacy is planning to do this.
In the Jackrabbit Pharmacy, the pharmacists have developed the pharmacy workplace so that it is easy
to respect patient confidentiality. For

Essay on The Effect of Consumer Culture on Education
The Effect of Consumer Culture on Education Consumer culture has without a doubt affected my
education. Education involves many things we value, and much of what we value has been bought.
Whether it be the calculators we use in math class or the texts we read in English, commodities are
helping teach us to do things. On another level however , consumer culture affects our personal
education in that we act and think differently than we might if our culture was less about that which
can be bought or sold. Much of this is due to the coverage of events presented by the Mass Media. We

You can t be too shy because that is not desirable. Nor can you be too outspoken in class because then
you are classified in some way; after all if people hear what you have to say they can form an opinion
of you. So we search to find that happy medium displayed in the world we watch on our television.
I agree with Edmundson to some degree. Yes, consumer culture definitely affects the way most of us
see ourselves and want to be seen by others. After all, Enthusiasm…quickly looks absurd. The form
of character that s most appealing on TV is calmly self interested though never greedy, attuned to the
conventions, and ironic. This definitely resembles the character that I personally find desirable, and I
imagine many other people feel the same way. But I believe there is a point when people stop trying to
conform to an image because it is too much work, but Edmundson concludes that people are
constantly . I am noticing this more now that I am in college. In high school it seemed like more
people were stuck between being cool and being unique, not sure themselves which they wanted to be.
Now it seems those who are unique by nature stop trying to be like the normal and show their true
colors. I imagine this is true in the class room as well. Though some people may not talk a lot in the
classroom, I believe that the professor need only to read their papers

Hatchet Metaphors
Author Gary Paulsen is what one would call a poet, yet he rights novels. This is because his poetry is
hidden wonderfully in his simple, yet beautiful style of written. Hatchet being no exception. The
Hatchet has several metchet metaphors and it is just one part of the story. Though in my opinion one
of the most important, if not they most important. They Hatchet a tool for survival, it has sentimental
value, and it has this secret meaning written between the lines.
So. survival this the most basic and easy concept of the Hatchet. Brain the main character uses the
Hatchet to perform both easy and difficult tasks. When the plane first went down, he used it to get of
the crash. He use it to build a fire and cather water. Such as cutting tree to get food or building a
shelter. At one point it is even used to help him scare of a bear. Of course other factor played in these
events and tasks, but they all in one way involved the Hatchet. So, really it is they key to his survival

Prospects For The Us Economy
Prospects for the US economy in 2016 November 6, 2015 The US economy is likely to grow by 2.7%
in 2016, but developments abroad pose risks Despite the recent softness in high frequency data, the
economy is close to full employment and growth is likely to average 2.4% in 2015. It should
accelerate slightly in 2016, as the buoyant labour market will boost private consumption, offsetting
some of the weakness in the industrial and trade sectors. Federal Reserve (Fed) officials have
highlighted the external headwinds posed to the US economy by slowing growth in emerging
countries and a continued debt overhang from the financial crisis. What next Real GDP is likely to

Car sales got a large boost, up to an annualised rate of 18.1 million units in September.
[***GDP_chart***] The housing sector is recovering and residential investment will continue
contribute positively to GDP growth. Housing starts have topped an annualised rate of 1 million for
the past five months. Existing home sales have declined recently, but they have been above
expectations for most 2015. The recent acceleration might not be supported in the medium term
because of limited supply and affordability constraints. Lower oil and gas prices are not as stimulative
for the US economy today as they once were due to the negative impact on the oil and gas industry
that has grown rapidly in recent years. The oil and gas rotary rig count is at a post recession low of
795, less than 50% than the peak of active rigs a year ago (see today s PROSPECTS 2016: Global oil

sector; they will remain a restrain in 2016. Equipment investment should stay upbeat, as testified by
strong shipments. Some risks are posed by the foreign growth outlook and tightening financial
conditions, which could restrain investment growth in the second half of next year. The main drag to
third quarter growth came from contracting inventories, whose quarterly change fell to 56.8 from

Fensive Cost Of Defense
The Offensive Cost of Defense The United States spends far more than any other country on defense
and security with no end in sight to their expenditures. The total military spending by the United
States is nearly equal to the combined military spending of every other nation combined. This
unreasonable amount of spending hinders the capacity to provide basic needs, as well as eliminating
money that can be used to resolve other domestic issues, while at the same time allowing for short
term economic prosperity and increasing our national defense capacity. The United States military
spending accounts for nearly 54% of federal discretionary spending. Of the $1.1 trillion in
discretionary spending in the United States, military spending accounts for the widest amount of
spending with $598.5 billion being spent, roughly 54%. The section of federal discretionary spending
that was even remotely close to the money spent on the military is the federal discretionary spending
that the government accrued at just under $73 billion which accounts for only 6% of the $1.1 trillion
in discretionary spending. In 2011 the United States government spent about $718 billion on defense
and international security assistance, more than it spent on Medicare. United States military
expenditures are roughly the size of the next nine largest military budgets around the world,
combined. The military s high expenditures impact the economy s ability to provide to other domestic
services and programs.

management of fatty liver disease with vitamin E and C combined compared to usrodeoxycholic acid
treatment. Second trial focuses on only vitamin E, pioglitazone, or placebo on NAFLD patients. Third
trials focuses on the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with vitamin E and vitamin C combined.
Final trial focuses on pioglitazone, vitamin E, or placebo for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, similar to

Vitamin E (300 mg/day) and vitamin C (300 mg/day) were given to each patient orally for 12 months.
Half of the patients had a liver biopsy done on them before and after the trial treatment. The findings
of this trial concluded that using both vitamin E and vitamin C combined can help patients with
NASH by minimizing the damage from oxidative stress, significantly improving fibrosis, and actually
slowing down the process that eventually leads to cirrhosis. When vitamin E is administered along
with vitamin C, the combination of both can actively fight against the oxidative stress in the liver. In
this study, serum alanine aminotransferase levels improved, along with a decrease in serum
thioredoxin, high sensitivity C reactive protein, and 8 hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels. This trial
suggests that the combination of vitamin C and E should be investigated further to be able to take
advantage of the full benefits of vitamin E against nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (11). Last trial on this
research was similar to the second trial discussed. This trial focused only on adults without diabetes
and without a developed case of cirrhosis. The reason these patients were excluded was due to the fact
that it is unclear whether these patients would have the same response to the therapy being offered as
patients without these conditions. The results on this trial were slightly different than the second trial
discussed. In this trial, significant

Break Of Day In The Trenches By Isaac Rosenberg
Break of Day in the Trenches is by one of the First World War s leading war poets, Isaac Rosenberg.
Many often remember Rosenberg as a Jewish English poet, or a poet of war, but there is more to his
writing than what meets the eye. Rosenberg died at the age of twenty eight in World War I on April 1,
1918. Critics often say that Isaac was an impressive young poet and that his future was bright in the
poetry world. It can be seen throughout his poems that Isaac incorporates a large amount of
symbolism and feeling into his pieces.
A primary focus for Rosenberg s poems is centered around the hardship and struggle in war. For
example, a few of his most famous poems including Dead Man s Dump, On Receiving News of the
War, Soldier: Twentieth Century and Break of Day in the Trenches all incorporate the mentality of a
soldier facing battle. It is easy for an individual to talk about the thought of war and the struggle that a
soldier may face. Furthermore, Rosenberg wrote from his experience as a young man going through
such a horrific event, which allowed his readers to see what he saw, feel what he felt, and undergo
what he went through. He mastered this art form in the early years of his life and shared his work with
the world. In many cases, he describes an object or occurrence and lets the description do most of the
work. Instead of using the rhyming schemes or more structural outlines of poetry, Isaac approaches
more of a free verse technique of writing in in his work. For example, in Break of Day in the
Trenches,
The darkness crumbles away.
It is the same old druid Time as ever,
Only a live thing leaps my hand,
A queer sardonic rat,
As I pull the parapet s poppy
To stick behind my ear.
Droll rat, they would shoot you if they knew Your cosmopolitan sympathies. (Rosenberg, Isaac. Break
of Day in the Trenches. Poetry Foundation. Poetry Foundation, n.d. Web. 24 May 2017.) The
introduction portion of this poem foreshadows a theme for the reader such that Rosenberg does not
use an ABC format, instead he employs a descriptive structure technique. In this particular poem the
rat that will cross No Man s Land and make friends with the enemy, the Germans. According to

A Paper On Tattoo Culture
Maddie Edwards
Humorous Discourse
Foundations Paper
Tattoo Culture When defining a term it first has to be understood, which is why American studies can
be incredibly difficult to define. Although using different ways of studying popular culture, in this
case tattoo culture, a better understanding of American studies can be formed. Specifically by using
the ideas of researching context to understand the time and surrounding area, self reflexivity to
understand how oneself is affected by this, and studying how the material and visual cultures of
everyday lives. Tattoos are one of these forms of popular culture, and the culture surrounding tattoos
exemplifies many of the characteristics of American Studies. When studying tattoo culture context is
significantly important, because a majority of the time this art form means something to the
individual. As Nash Smith discusses literary analysis only gives us part of the information that is
necessary in understanding where ideas stem from and how they became relevant. He also talks about
how the informations gathered from these sources needs to be interpreted in the light of a thorough
knowledge of class structure, of the stratification of taste according to levels of sophistication, and of
the different audiences in which different magazines and publishing houses addressed themselves. 1
While tattoos are not regulated by publishing houses and different magazines it is still helpful to
interrupt them based on the environment.

Drug abuse and addiction have negative consequences for individuals and for society ( DrugFacts:

it is illegal substances or it is prescription over use, drug addiction can affect the 18 year old college
student or the 70 year old grandmother. Even though drug addiction is still a growing and constant
problem each model is fighting to get this problem under control. In this paper we will discuss how
each of the models address this issue. We will also discuss the strengths and weaknesses of how each
model is addressing the problem. Directly following the above we will examine detoxification centers
and Narcotics Anonymous and how they are helping to fight the battle against drug addiction. First let
s look at how the medical model address addiction.
People often look at drug addiction as something that can be avoided they may think that people
become addicted because they have poor self control or because they lack morals. This is sadly not the
case. Addiction is a disease that is treatable but not curable ( DrugFacts: Understanding Drug Abuse
and Addiction | National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), n.d.). Because it is a chronic disease it must
be treated not only for the present symptoms but for the long term effects as well. A medical model,

Why Women Empowerment And Entrepreneurs
Why women empowerment and entrepreneurs
Swami Vivekananda, one of the greatest sons of
India, quoted that, There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is
improved, It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing.
Therefore, inclusion of Women Empowerment as one of the prime goals in the eight Millennium
Development Goals underscores the relevance of this fact. Thus, in order to achieve the status of a
developed country, India needs to transform its colossal women force into an effective human resource
and this is possible only through the empowerment of women.
Economic empowerment is the first step towards political empowerment and beyond. Economic
empowerment should enable woman to take greater financial risks, greater standards of development
and more access to resources; it is not merely a marginal increase in income.
However, if economic empowerment has to translate into substantial change in power relations, the
socio political empowerment should take place simultaneously. HE Tebelelo Seretse Ambassador of
Botswana to the united state said that when you empower a man, you empower an individual, when
you empower a woman you empower the nation. It is perfect statement because a nation s
competitiveness in the long term depends on how it educate ,trains and equips its women power
potential talent base by providing them the same rights ,responsibilities and opportunities as others.
Empowering women worldwide and investing

In the article, The Torture Myth, Anne Applebaum explores the controversial topic of torture practices,
focused primarily in The United States. The article was published on January 12, 2005, inspired by the
dramatic increase of tensions between terrorist organizations and The United States. Applebaum
explores three equality titillating concepts within the article. Applebaum s questions the actual
effectiveness of using torture as a means of obtaining valuable information in urgent times.

I have been unable to deliberate on the appropriate alternative method for this particular dilemma.
When it comes to the topic of torture, the popular attitude is that it is sometimes required. Where this
agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of ethics and efficiency. Whereas some are
convinced that it is an effective policy, others maintain that it is not successful practice. To further
support the stance that the torture policy is not necessary effective, Army Col. Stuart Herrington
inserted, in his experience, nine out of ten people can be persuaded to talk with no stress methods at
all, let alone cruel and unusual ones. Applebaum s second argument for eliminating the torture policy
is that it constantly enables the enemy to build tolerance for the torture. Applebaum uses the example
of radical terrorists are nasty, so to defeat them we have to be nastier. This example clearly illustrates
the fault within the misconception that torture is ultimately effective. There can also be unnoticed and
lasting consequences to torture, that in turn, affect more than the individual country. The global stigma
that is labeled upon any country that participates in or allows the torture of wartime prisoners is
remarkably important. The public and self image that the respective country acquires, affects

Theme for English by Langston Hughes and In the Inner City...
Speaking Out Theme for English B by Langston Hughes and in the inner city by Lucille Clifton are
both simple poems written by African American during a time where being black was not so popular
and a trying time for those whom were black Americans. They both wrote about the plight of blacks
during their perspective times; Hughes piece was one that spoken in a straightforward and blunt
manner, while Clifton was a harsh and muggy one. Both of these poems were written in everyday
language, I would imagine, ensuring that their point was one that was easy to understand. Hughes
poem was not written without any rhyme scheme, while Clifton s had some rhyme scheme. These
poems show the darker side, the evil and violence towards fellow Americans because of their skin
color. To me both Hughes and Clifton speaks out about the evil side during a time when it was not
popular to speak out about this dark side; which was considered the norm. In the poem Theme for
English B, by Langston Hughes, the teacher tells the speaker to go home and write. The speaker
wonders if it is that simple; I can tell he does not feel passionate about the assignment. He begins by
writing that he is twenty two, colored, and born and educated in Winston Salem, Durham, and at
college in Harlem. He writes that he is the only colored student in his class. He walks down a hill into
Harlem, crossing streets before arriving at the Harlem branch of the YMCA. He takes the elevator up

An Age Of Doubt By James Joyce
Frequently referred to as an age of doubt, the Modernist period of literature was characterized by
authors who sought to challenge the notion of a literary text containing a single truth or meaning.
Modernist writers went against societal and cultural customs by questioning literature and focusing on
the individual experience of a text. As a result, much of modern literature destabilizes meaning
through the use of ambiguity and suspense. Accordingly, ambiguity plays a central role in James Joyce
s short story, Eveline. Throughout the story, nineteen year old Eveline contemplates leaving her home
in Dublin to pursue a happier life with a sailor named Frank. At home, she leads a dismal life with her
violent father, and therefore the prospect of life with Frank in Buenos Ayres presents itself as an
enticing escape. However, Eveline finds herself trapped between familiarity and freedom, between
what she could do and what she wants to do. While numerous critics have attempted to uncover
whether Eveline favours her staying or leaving, the story remains ambiguous with its two mutually
exclusive meanings (Luft 48). In Joyce s Eveline, ambiguity obscures the answer the reader seeks and
reveals that Eveline cannot make a choice because her situation is inescapable putting the reader in a
position of hermeneutic conflict, analogous to Eveline s irresolvable inner conflict (Luft 50).
Throughout Eveline, the ambiguity surrounding Frank s character is a major source of

Beginning in 1923, Kellogg s, a cereal company in Battle Creek, Michigan, created PEP, a whole
wheat cereal. In 1930, it became the first fortified cereal consisting of vitamins B and D. According to
Kellogg s official website, it also became the first product to undergo food fortification, or adding of

the company focused extensively on sponsored advertisement. Kellogg Company partnered with

Even though PEP cereal is no longer selling, one advertisement during its era of popularity brings up
controversial points. Dating back to its early release during the 1930s, the classified ad is of antique

Introduction: I chose this book because of my newfound appreciation of Egyptian warfare. I had
always been fascinated by Egyptian history, but had somewhat dismissed the study thereof. I highly
suggest this book to anyone studying Egyptian warfare. It analyzes in great depth, the New Kingdom
and its war strategies prior to the Egyptians takeover of Syria. The excruciating detail in which

Spalinger further solidifies his intent when he tells us that his goal is to help the reader to grasp the
state of deadliness that the Egyptian army rose to during the New Kingdom. He promises to list the

The Use Of Animal Imagery In Fairyland
More generally, animal imagery stresses the dark and frightening elements of Fairyland. When Titania
is about to rest in the woods, her fairies perform a soliloquy or lullaby, to ward off any vile creatures
that would wish to harm Titania, and to make her feel safe.
You spotted snakes with double tongue,
Thorny hedgehogs, be not seen;
Newts and blindworms, do no wrong,
Come not near our Fairy Queen.
(II, ii, 9 12).
Weaving spiders, come not here;
Hence, you long legged spinners, hence!
Beetles black, approach not near;
Worm nor snail, do no offense.
(II, ii, 20 23).
Blindworms, snakes, newts, spiders and beetles are all insects and animals that terrify or disturb the
average human. Some humans keep hedgehogs as pets, thus lowering their scare factor, yet the thorny
description reminds the reader of their potential for harm and danger. Both Fairyland and its creep
creatures have the potential for deception and evil or can be harmless and lighthearted. The key words
of double tongue and be not seen, are especially troublesome as this hints that the terrifying animals of
the human world that are not usually seen are present in this world. The animal imagery in this
passage depicts a creepier Fairyland that is more of a nightmare than a dream. Oberon matches the
harsh and creepy descriptions of the fairies when he wishes that Titania fall in love with an
undesirable creature. He suggests a cat or bear, a boar with bristled hair, or some vile thing (II, ii,

The Nature Of The Gods
Cartoons often depict a character with a subconscious angel and devil on each shoulder hyping up the
personality trait the character should act on. These subconscious beings influence the characters to act
on their impulse thoughts and reveal their true character. In the Iliad, the gods acted as these
subconscious beings and were portrayed with humanistic qualities. They intervened or refused to
intervene based on their emotional attachments and were the final push of the humans actions
throughout the poem. The gods and humans similar qualities allowed the humans to exercise free will
instead of being puppets to the gods. The comparative personalities allowed Homer to use the gods
and divinity to explain certain characters behaviors.
The subconscious angel and devil in cartoons contain the same personality traits of the cartoon
character the same way the gods in the Iliad reflect the mortals. The gods human like characteristics
compare well to a subconscious being internally molding thoughts and desires into actions. This little
push of encouragement is seen in Book Two when Zeus sent a dream to Agamemnon suggesting he
should attack the Trojans immediately. This arrogant idea of attacking the Trojans immediately with
little preparation isn t too far fetched from Agamemnon s normal behavior. In Book One, Agamemnon
went against warrior code of returning Chryseis, his war prize, after her father offered up a ransom for
her return. This refusal results in Apollo

Probable Cause Debate
Pro: We affirm. Resolved: In United States public K 12 schools, the probable cause standard ought to
apply to searches of students. If we prove that it is unsafe for students to learn in an environment
where they can be subject to search at any time, we win. Contention 1: Reducing negative stereotypes
Based on statistics, it has been observed that certain racial and ethnic groups are more subject to racial
profiling than others. According to Kendell L. Coker 2011, school officials have instituted
administrative searches aimed at a group or class of people rather than a particular person under the
theory that a member of that group or class might pose a threat to safety. Thus, when school resource
officers (SROs) face a situation with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The harm of unreasonable searches versus the possibility of preventing a crime from occurring by the
discovery of evidence is the issue at hand. The time that is used to obtain the warrant because of
probable cause is time that can be used to prevent a crime from happening and lives from being lost. If
the student is planning on harming others, getting a warrant will allow them more time to execute that
plan. Under reasonable suspicion, the investigation is justified and can save more lives, as well as
keep the school community safe. According to Benjamin Tiller, 2014, A probable cause standard
would frustrate the fulfillment of the resource officer s duty... and make it easier for students to
conceal drugs or weapons at school. This high standard will not mitigate drug and gun problems, but
will make them worse. It will force educators and resource officers to take the time to apply for a
warrant instead of immediately addressing a perceived threat time that could be the difference between
life and death. Reasonable suspicion allows educators and resource officers flexibility and discourages
students from bringing contraband to school. Schools should be safe places for children and
reasonable suspicion will create this safe space. Gun violence is a prevalent issue today and in April

Comparing Descartes And John Locke On How Is God Related...
One of the main questions philosophers strive to fulfill happens to be How is God related to the world,
especially in causality. An increasingly popular idea was that the world and nature were like a machine
and everything worked together like a montage of parts. Disturbance again reigned from Christians
and thus came primary and secondary causality. Such as the primary cause is too wet the grass and the
secondary is the rain which in turn will make the grass wet. God is the primary cause for everything
while he works in secondary causes. Spinoza, however, sees God as a substance and He is everything.
Such as Descartes, Locke wished to determine how the human mind acquires knowledge. He believed
a newborn child was a blank slate and knowledge

Taking a Look at the Asian Carp
This fish can eat 20% of their bodyweight per day, can weigh over 100 pounds and it lives in a place it
shouldn t. (National Park Service, 2014) It is the Asian Carp. This plant can grow a foot a day, can
grow up to 100 feet, and grows on anything in it s way. It is the Kudzu vine. These are examples of
invasive species, which are organisms that are introduced to an environment outside their native range,
and pose a threat to the native species where they are.
The Asian Carp is a collective name for four types of fish: the Bighead carp, Black carp, Silver carp
and Grass carp. When scientists refer to Asian Carp they mean the previous listed fish which are
considered a threat to freshwater aquatic environments. The Common carp which are the Cyprinus
carpio have been around for over 100 years however they are not the one s causing the problem, it is
the Asian Carp that is negatively affecting the ecosystem, economy, property and people as the fish
move their way North into the bodies of water. (National Park Service, 2014)
The Asian Carp was originally from Southeast Asia and was introduced in the 1970 s into the Southern
United States to keep ponds clean from weed and parasite growth. However, due to flooding in the
Mississippi River the Asian Carp has started invading the Missouri River and the Illinois River. Since
the Illinois River is connected to the Great Lakes via the Chicago Sanitary and the Ship Canal the
Asian Carp freely swim through the bodies of water. (National

How Did The Plains Indians Impact On American Culture
The great plains also known as the american desert are a wide stretch of land in the centre of North
America. 35000 years ago, Indians first lived off the lands, they were The Plains Indians, people who
lived by themselves on the land until European settlement. Many things in the plains Indians lives
changed when the Europeans came, the most stand out changes were the introduction of guns, armour
and horse. This report will explain the impacts of contact on Indigenous people during European
settlement. The Indian population was constantly changing as tribes were continually moving in and
out of the area. Those who were permanent residents would live in villages of 9 to 90 huts made from
wood, mud and river weeds. This was due to villages being positions near rivers, lakes or niches, this

Mere Christianity Research Paper
There are many situations where I felt myself and others were treated unfairly; However, I m going to
share the one that struck out to me the most. Growing up, I was raised in a Christian background,
specifically Methodist. Even though I respect the views of those who are not Christian, unfortunately
not all Christians do that. Some Christians use their Christianity to judge those who are not living up
to their expectations or those who are not righteous in their eyes. I experienced it myself because I was
in a situation where other Christians were castigating me.
When I was 14 years old, I started attending a Seventh Day Adventist church. Although I was not

Christianity as a way to judge others and put others down? From what I m hearing we should not

Marriage Should Not Be A Sacred Thing
Marriage used to be a sacred thing; once you married someone you spend the rest of your life with
them. Even some places such as the Philippines and The Vatican City make divorce illegal. Here in
America divorces are happening every single day. This social phenomenon is considered problematic.
Almost 50% of all marriages end in divorce. When most people think of a divorce, they think of it
ending in bad terms due to infidelity; but this is not always the case. It s important to understand what
a divorce is, how it works, who it affects, the consequences, and the solution. Divorce has become
way to common; we need to reestablish the sacredness of marriage and the importance of family.
There are two types of divorces, a no fault and an at fault. No fault divorces mean that the person
filing does not have to prove fault on their spouse. States still require a reason for divorces so the most
common reasons are there are too many differences and the marriage is not repairable. An at fault
divorce is most common and this is when a spouse is filing for divorce because of infidelity, abuse,
prison confinement, and may more reasons where the other spouse is at fault and deteriorating the
marriage. There are 5 different defenses against an at fault divorce; connivance, condonation,
recrimination, provocation, and collusion. Connivance is defense to adultery, it suggests that the
partner agreed to and/or participated in the infidelity. Condonation declares that the other spouse knew

Case about Yahoo 1. Success as a Web Search Engine
a. Why was Yahoo! such an early success on the Web?
Yahoo was an early success due to a combination of factors such as timing, hard work, and a good
understanding of Web surfer s tastes and needs.. In early 1995, Net mania was just flowering. It was a
great time to be a young entrepreneur with an Internet idea. Dave Faldo and Jerry Yang saw a
consumer need for classifying and differentiating web sights. Resting the urge to automate this
process, Yahoo s founders instead chose to manually perform this search, reviewing and classifying
roughly 1000 sights a day. This approach combined with their decision to offer a free service lead to

b. Do you approve of how Karen Edwards has promoted the Yahoo! brand? Why or why not? How
would you improve Yahoo! marketing? Explain why.
Edwards used an excellent approach in her initial marketing campaign. The majority of web surfers
are young. Targeting events and media that are frequently attended/subscribed to by the Gen X target
market proved quick and efficient way to attract interest.
The next step was to find a way to hold on to current users. This was accomplished with the consistent

Why Is Lying Unjustified
Lying, it s everywhere. Almost 60% of most adults can t go ten minutes without telling a lie. Some
people lie to protect other people, while others lie to benefit themselves like maintaining the perfect
image they care so much about. However, lying is completely unjustified unless you re protecting
yourself or someone else from danger. This idea can be further proven with evidence from a variety of
articles.
To begin, many people believe that lying is unjustified, like German philosopher Immanuel Kant.
Although, people agree with this statement, others may disagree. However, some people believe that
...lying is stressful and hurts relationships. (Ballinger 5). This proves that lying is unjustified because
if you chose to tell the truth it wouldn t be stressful; and also it wouldn t hurt relationships. Another
example within the text states, Delivering the truth is easier, takes less time, and is less stressful.
(Ballinger 5). This shows how if we tell the truth it s easier, and it s less time consuming. Furthermore,
when you lie sometimes you have to rack your brain to remember what you lied about. In addition,
when you lie you lose people s trust. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

10 October 2016 Electronic Communication and Its social and Psychological effects How does
electronic communication affect our social behavior as a whole and our psychological development?
Communication is an important part of life. We all do it in a daily basis whether it s face to face or
through electronics. Communicating through the internet helps us as it decreases a bit in the time that
it would usually take for us to keep in touch with our loved ones. However, it also takes away from the
face to face interaction we would have with them. One of the most popular ways that people
communicate electronically is through text messaging. Just like all the other diverse ways that allows
us to communicate electronically such as email, instant messaging, social media etc., text messaging
affects us both positively and negatively. Actually we are affected both positively and negatively with
just the ability to communicate and interact with others electronically. Electronic Communication
tends to affects us socially and psychologically; Socially: in a way that it allows us to keep in touch

changed everything. Before she had a chance to send the message Deej veered off into oncoming
traffic and was killed on impact. Today Deej s dad travels across the country, speaking in classrooms
and gymnasiums educating highschoolers about the risks and dangers involved texting while driving.
He never imagined that something like this could happen to someone so close to him. His plan

Simply putting down your phone and paying attention to the road is a decision that not only could
save the life of a driver but could save a whole family and community a whole lot of hurt. At any
given time during the day approximately 800,000 people across the United States are on their phone
while driving, which explains why texting is the number one distraction for teens across the country
(Don t Text and Drive Volunteer Society of America). However, we can change this. Educating teens

Internal Medicine Career Research Paper
My choice of internal medicine as a career is based on my experiences through medical school.
Internal medicine allows me to manage patient issues, give treatments, and work with other health
care professionals to treat patients. Internal medicine is a sophisticated career that I would like to be a
part of.
During my first and second years of medical school, I had the opportunity to visit with internists and
sub specialists of medicine, including a pulmonologist and a cardiologist. I was impressed by how the
physicians were able to discuss with patients about what their problems were and how they can move
forward with improving treatment. The physicians also discussed with me about how they integrate
basic sciences with clinical practice, which I was impressed with.
The internal medicine clerkship during my third year of medical school sparked my interest in internal
medicine. I was on an inpatient internal medicine team during my first month of the clerkship.
Analyzing patient data and developing plans of care with the internal medicine team during rounds
was exciting for me. I also observed how physicians would take ... Show more content on

During the second month of the internal medicine clerkship, I was on an inpatient gastroenterology
and hepatology team. I appreciated the complexity of the pathophysiology behind the patient illnesses,
and understanding these principles helped guide management of patients in various severities of
illnesses. This month of the clerkship also still integrated principles of internal medicine outside of the
gastroenterology and hepatology that was used for patient care. In addition, the attending physician
would sit with the patients and their families for extended periods of time to explain their illnesses and
plans of management to them. I noticed that the patients and their families would be more comfortable
and receptive to what the physician was discussing with

Analysis Of Elizabeth Grammar On Job Redesign
Running head: JOB ENRICHMENT 1
Analysis of Case Study by Elizabeth Layman on Job Redesign
University of the People
JOB ENRICHMENT 2
Introduction
Job design is a tool meant to work as motivator for employees. It is meant to increase job satisfaction
and commitment. By the same token, it is meant to decrease turnover and absenteeism (Carpenter, M.,
Taylor, B., Erdogan, B., 2009). Elizabeth Layman offers a broader perspective on how job redesign
changed the working environment in the Health Information Services Departments (HIS). Health
Information leaders are in charge studying the signs that will help with theory and context to find the
best solutions that will deliver results in job redesigning.
How are the principles of goal setting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is relevant because it improves the current hard, soft and context variables that are affecting them.
This goal is not time bound since the case study does not offer a specific date for its completion.
Principles of job enrichment applied in this case
Job enrichment is a variation of job enlargement. Job enlargement aims to increase the responsibilities
of the subject to avoid boredom and monotony. Job enrichment also increases the responsibilities of
the subject, but in a different manner. In this case, the employee is given more tasks,
JOB ENRICHMENT 3 but the employee has the liberty to correct unnecessary steps, and
consequently make his job more efficient and effective. This tool helps as a motivator that leads to
higher employee satisfaction since the subject feels more in control of his job. Nevertheless, job
enrichment can also backfire because employees will not see the correlation between earning more
duties, and not earning more money (Carpenter, M., Taylor, B., Erdogan, B., 2009).
In Layman s case study, the job enrichment principles are present first in recognizing that changes
need to be done at the sector, organizational, and employee levels. At the sector level, management
needs to be more proactive in deciphering those sector wide events that at the end affect individual
workloads, but also standards, regulations and

I am submitting my credentials for admission to the Ph.D. program in Organizational Behavior at
Purdue University because I want to pursue a career in teaching and organizational consulting. To be
more specific, I am interested in studying the factors that influence employee motivation, employee
productivity in different environments and the effects of layoffs on employee motivation. In order to
better understand these issues, it is extremely essential for me to have a strong command of various

I used this opportunity to network throughout the company and this experience enabled me to discover
some of the more efficient ways of doing business by removing bottlenecks and redundancies in the
hierarchical processes of the company. Working on various projects of different scope helped me gain
a broad exposure to the retail industry, organizational communication and the variability of consumer
behavior. I strongly feel that I need a better understanding of how organizations function, how they
utilize a diverse workforce in a synergetic manner and the factors which affect employee productivity
levels. Therefore, I feel that further training and research in the area of Organizational Behavior would
be essential to enhance my knowledge and skills.
Purdue University is my preferred institution because the faculty is impressively knowledgeable and
intellectually nurturing which taught me a lot about the world that we live in. I really like the teaching
methodology and the use of real world case studies to prepare students for the outside world. My
interest in pursuing a Ph.D. program was kindled while I was enrolled in the MBA program. However,
a tough financial situation coupled with the specter of student loans kept haunting me. I accepted the

  • 2. Essay about Abraham Lincoln 22 Aug. 2009 Abraham Lincoln Hero or Racist? Abraham Lincoln is arguably one of the most interesting presidents in the history of the United States. Any research done on Lincoln will show, whether you agree or disagree with his philosophies, that he was, and still is, a fascinating historical figure. There have been numerous discussions regarding Lincoln before the Civil War, during the war as Commander In Chief, or his views on slavery and racial equality; furthermore, vast debates on his views, strategies, and solutions regarding events that helped shape our nation. Abraham Lincoln is such an interesting person that discussions and debates will lead to more questions open to more discussion and debate. What was Lincoln s view on ... He also still believed physical differences between the two races would prevent them from living together socially and politically (186). Lincoln was against whites benefitting from slave labor and did feel that blacks should be able to benefit from the fruits of their own labor. According to Dinesh D Souza in her article Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite, or Consummate Statesman , he was not, however, an abolitionist. Abolitionists wanted an immediate end to slavery and believed the rights of slaves should not be compromised and that they had a duty to defend freedom, unreservedly, and careless of the consequences (3). What was the reason behind the Civil War? According to Carter G. Woodson and Charles H. Wesley, when the Civil War started, Lincoln, in order to stay on the good side of supporters who had voted him into office, publicly stated that he did not want to interfere with the slavery in the South ( The Negro in the Civil War 361). Contrary to claims that he did not approve of slavery, Lincoln clearly compromised the rights of slaves to be free in order to appease supporters of slavery by evading the subject of slavery in the South. D Souza also asserts that Lincoln stated in correspondence to Andrew Stephens, the former vice president of the Confederacy, that while we think it is wrong, and ought to be restricted, it was not his intention to get ... • 3. Pharmacy Vs Jackrabbit Pharmacy What better way to learn about the pharmacy profession than from two SDSU alumni in the university s own pharmacy? I had the opportunity to learn from Melanie Lunn and Tasha Rausch in the unique environment that the Jackrabbit Pharmacy brings. I was able to compare and contrast this pharmacy with the retail pharmacy I work in. The Jackrabbit Pharmacy has a unique patient population and location which leads to many of these differences. Located on a college campus with a majority of the patients being young adults, maintaining confidentiality can be an issue. One issue that Melanie commonly faces is concerned parents calling regarding their child s prescription. Since the passing of HIPAA, eighteen year olds have the right to keep their health information from their parents. As a pharmacist, one should be mindful of the information that is discussed with parents of college aged students. This can be difficult because parents do not always want to abide by this law. While shadowing at the pharmacy, I saw another potential issue with patient confidentiality. If the pharmacy were to hire a student intern or clerk, that student could learn about the medical conditions and medications that his or her friends have. It would be very easy to breach HIPAA and, therefore, a liability. Luckily, I don t think the pharmacy is planning to do this. In the Jackrabbit Pharmacy, the pharmacists have developed the pharmacy workplace so that it is easy to respect patient confidentiality. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Education involves many things we value, and much of what we value has been bought. Whether it be the calculators we use in math class or the texts we read in English, commodities are helping teach us to do things. On another level however , consumer culture affects our personal education in that we act and think differently than we might if our culture was less about that which can be bought or sold. Yes, consumer culture definitely affects the way most of us see ourselves and want to be seen by others. After all, Enthusiasm…quickly looks absurd. The form of character that s most appealing on TV is calmly self interested though never greedy, attuned to the conventions, and ironic. This definitely resembles the character that I personally find desirable, and I imagine many other people feel the same way. But I believe there is a point when people stop trying to conform to an image because it is too much work, but Edmundson concludes that people are constantly . I am noticing this more now that I am in college. In high school it seemed like more people were stuck between being cool and being unique, not sure themselves which they wanted to be. The total military spending by the United States is nearly equal to the combined military spending of every other nation combined. This unreasonable amount of spending hinders the capacity to provide basic needs, as well as eliminating money that can be used to resolve other domestic issues, while at the same time allowing for short term economic prosperity and increasing our national defense capacity. The United States military spending accounts for nearly 54% of federal discretionary spending. Of the $1.1 trillion in discretionary spending in the United States, military spending accounts for the widest amount of spending with $598.5 billion being spent, roughly 54%. The section of federal discretionary spending that was even remotely close to the money spent on the military is the federal discretionary spending that the government accrued at just under $73 billion which accounts for only 6% of the $1.1 trillion in discretionary spending. The findings of this trial concluded that using both vitamin E and vitamin C combined can help patients with NASH by minimizing the damage from oxidative stress, significantly improving fibrosis, and actually slowing down the process that eventually leads to cirrhosis. When vitamin E is administered along with vitamin C, the combination of both can actively fight against the oxidative stress in the liver. In this study, serum alanine aminotransferase levels improved, along with a decrease in serum thioredoxin, high sensitivity C reactive protein, and 8 hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels. This trial suggests that the combination of vitamin C and E should be investigated further to be able to take advantage of the full benefits of vitamin E against nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (11). • 10. Break Of Day In The Trenches By Isaac Rosenberg Break of Day in the Trenches is by one of the First World War s leading war poets, Isaac Rosenberg. Many often remember Rosenberg as a Jewish English poet, or a poet of war, but there is more to his writing than what meets the eye. Rosenberg died at the age of twenty eight in World War I on April 1, 1918. Critics often say that Isaac was an impressive young poet and that his future was bright in the poetry world. It can be seen throughout his poems that Isaac incorporates a large amount of symbolism and feeling into his pieces. A primary focus for Rosenberg s poems is centered around the hardship and struggle in war. For example, a few of his most famous poems including Dead Man s Dump, On Receiving News of the War, Soldier: Twentieth Century and Break of Day in the Trenches all incorporate the mentality of a soldier facing battle. It is easy for an individual to talk about the thought of war and the struggle that a soldier may face. Furthermore, Rosenberg wrote from his experience as a young man going through such a horrific event, which allowed his readers to see what he saw, feel what he felt, and undergo what he went through. He mastered this art form in the early years of his life and shared his work with the world. In many cases, he describes an object or occurrence and lets the description do most of the work. Instead of using the rhyming schemes or more structural outlines of poetry, Isaac approaches more of a free verse technique of writing in in his work. For example, in Break of Day in the Trenches, The darkness crumbles away. It is the same old druid Time as ever, Only a live thing leaps my hand, A queer sardonic rat, As I pull the parapet s poppy To stick behind my ear. Droll rat, they would shoot you if they knew Your cosmopolitan sympathies. (Rosenberg, Isaac. Break of Day in the Trenches. Poetry Foundation. Poetry Foundation, n.d. Web. 24 May 2017.) The introduction portion of this poem foreshadows a theme for the reader such that Rosenberg does not use an ABC format, instead he employs a descriptive structure technique. In this particular poem the rat that will cross No Man s Land and make friends with the enemy, the Germans. According to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Women Empowerment And Entrepreneurs Why women empowerment and entrepreneurs Swami Vivekananda, one of the greatest sons of India, quoted that, There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved, It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing. Therefore, inclusion of Women Empowerment as one of the prime goals in the eight Millennium Development Goals underscores the relevance of this fact. Thus, in order to achieve the status of a developed country, India needs to transform its colossal women force into an effective human resource and this is possible only through the empowerment of women. Economic empowerment is the first step towards political empowerment and beyond. Economic empowerment should enable woman to take greater financial risks, greater standards of development and more access to resources; it is not merely a marginal increase in income. However, if economic empowerment has to translate into substantial change in power relations, the socio political empowerment should take place simultaneously. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of ethics and efficiency. Whereas some are convinced that it is an effective policy, others maintain that it is not successful practice. To further support the stance that the torture policy is not necessary effective, Army Col. Stuart Herrington inserted, in his experience, nine out of ten people can be persuaded to talk with no stress methods at all, let alone cruel and unusual ones. Applebaum s second argument for eliminating the torture policy is that it constantly enables the enemy to build tolerance for the torture. • 18. An Age Of Doubt By James Joyce Frequently referred to as an age of doubt, the Modernist period of literature was characterized by authors who sought to challenge the notion of a literary text containing a single truth or meaning. Modernist writers went against societal and cultural customs by questioning literature and focusing on the individual experience of a text. As a result, much of modern literature destabilizes meaning through the use of ambiguity and suspense. Accordingly, ambiguity plays a central role in James Joyce s short story, Eveline. Throughout the story, nineteen year old Eveline contemplates leaving her home in Dublin to pursue a happier life with a sailor named Frank. At home, she leads a dismal life with her violent father, and therefore the prospect of life with Frank in Buenos Ayres presents itself as an enticing escape. However, Eveline finds herself trapped between familiarity and freedom, between what she could do and what she wants to do. While numerous critics have attempted to uncover whether Eveline favours her staying or leaving, the story remains ambiguous with its two mutually exclusive meanings (Luft 48). In Joyce s Eveline, ambiguity obscures the answer the reader seeks and reveals that Eveline cannot make a choice because her situation is inescapable putting the reader in a position of hermeneutic conflict, analogous to Eveline s irresolvable inner conflict (Luft 50). Throughout Eveline, the ambiguity surrounding Frank s character is a major source of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Use Of Animal Imagery In Fairyland More generally, animal imagery stresses the dark and frightening elements of Fairyland. When Titania is about to rest in the woods, her fairies perform a soliloquy or lullaby, to ward off any vile creatures that would wish to harm Titania, and to make her feel safe. You spotted snakes with double tongue, Thorny hedgehogs, be not seen; Newts and blindworms, do no wrong, Come not near our Fairy Queen. (II, ii, 9 12). Weaving spiders, come not here; Hence, you long legged spinners, hence! Beetles black, approach not near; Worm nor snail, do no offense. (II, ii, 20 23). Blindworms, snakes, newts, spiders and beetles are all insects and animals that terrify or disturb the average human. Some humans keep hedgehogs as pets, thus lowering their scare factor, yet the thorny description reminds the reader of their potential for harm and danger. Both Fairyland and its creep creatures have the potential for deception and evil or can be harmless and lighthearted. The key words of double tongue and be not seen, are especially troublesome as this hints that the terrifying animals of the human world that are not usually seen are present in this world. The animal imagery in this passage depicts a creepier Fairyland that is more of a nightmare than a dream. Oberon matches the harsh and creepy descriptions of the fairies when he wishes that Titania fall in love with an undesirable creature. He suggests a cat or bear, a boar with bristled hair, or some vile thing (II, ii, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Nature Of The Gods Cartoons often depict a character with a subconscious angel and devil on each shoulder hyping up the personality trait the character should act on. These subconscious beings influence the characters to act on their impulse thoughts and reveal their true character. In the Iliad, the gods acted as these subconscious beings and were portrayed with humanistic qualities. They intervened or refused to intervene based on their emotional attachments and were the final push of the humans actions throughout the poem. The gods and humans similar qualities allowed the humans to exercise free will instead of being puppets to the gods. The comparative personalities allowed Homer to use the gods and divinity to explain certain characters behaviors. The subconscious angel and devil in cartoons contain the same personality traits of the cartoon character the same way the gods in the Iliad reflect the mortals. The gods human like characteristics compare well to a subconscious being internally molding thoughts and desires into actions. This little push of encouragement is seen in Book Two when Zeus sent a dream to Agamemnon suggesting he should attack the Trojans immediately. This arrogant idea of attacking the Trojans immediately with little preparation isn t too far fetched from Agamemnon s normal behavior. In Book One, Agamemnon went against warrior code of returning Chryseis, his war prize, after her father offered up a ransom for her return. This refusal results in Apollo ... If we prove that it is unsafe for students to learn in an environment where they can be subject to search at any time, we win. Contention 1: Reducing negative stereotypes Based on statistics, it has been observed that certain racial and ethnic groups are more subject to racial profiling than others. According to Kendell L. The harm of unreasonable searches versus the possibility of preventing a crime from occurring by the discovery of evidence is the issue at hand. The time that is used to obtain the warrant because of probable cause is time that can be used to prevent a crime from happening and lives from being lost. If the student is planning on harming others, getting a warrant will allow them more time to execute that plan. Under reasonable suspicion, the investigation is justified and can save more lives, as well as keep the school community safe. According to Benjamin Tiller, 2014, A probable cause standard would frustrate the fulfillment of the resource officer s duty... and make it easier for students to conceal drugs or weapons at school. This high standard will not mitigate drug and gun problems, but will make them worse. It will force educators and resource officers to take the time to apply for a warrant instead of immediately addressing a perceived threat time that could be the difference between life and death. Reasonable suspicion allows educators and resource officers flexibility and discourages students from bringing contraband to school. An increasingly popular idea was that the world and nature were like a machine and everything worked together like a montage of parts. Disturbance again reigned from Christians and thus came primary and secondary causality. Such as the primary cause is too wet the grass and the secondary is the rain which in turn will make the grass wet. God is the primary cause for everything while he works in secondary causes.
