Vermeer In Bosnia By Lawrence Weschler
In the text Vermeer in Bosnia by Lawrence Weschler, Weschler builds an argument surrounding the
need of inventing peace . Throughout the text, Weschler refers to different individuals to build up his
claim. In each part, Weschler focuses and describes each individual as a unique existence. From
murders to peacemakers, from past to present, Wechsler individualizes them from their groups in order
to look at each with an unbiased, holistic point of view, developing a clear goal for achieving peace.
To further develop his argument, Weschler focuses on Jan Vermeer, an artist who spent his entire life
dedicated to drawing an ideal, peaceful environment which was non existent during his time. Weschler
repeatedly included Vermeer in different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe it s my lack of artistic taste, but even after the realization, I was still unable to arrive at the
same interpretation of the woman in the portrait as Weschler.
Legacy, on the other hand, is clearly defined and nearly constant even as a large span of time has
passed. Vermeer does include legacies, but with limited use, cutting off a reliable source to back up his
argument. The use of interpretations allows his argument to be disputed and possibly rejected. After
years of continuous violence and war, it is unlikely to seek out and prosecute the few that initiated the
conflict since they are most likely no longer around anymore. Even if a descendant is found,
individuality alone may not suffice for prosecution, nor will it necessarily be a step towards inventing
peace. They might as well put up a random stranger, make up a case, and claim to have prosecuted the
root of the evil. On the other hand, prosecuting a family known to have a legacy of criminal and
inhumane acts is much more likely to lead to step towards inventing peace. Though it may disregard
the individuals involved, it will truly be the end of one bloody legacy.
There are many instances where legacy trumps the interpreted individuality. In Ta Nehisi Coates
article The First White President , he brings up the idea of the white legacy aka the bloody heirloom
and uses it to describe Donald Trump s presidency. Coates develops an argument surrounding

The University Of Massachusetts s Management
The University of Massachusetts suffered a major ERP failure in 2003. The university had begun work
on the $10 million dollar project in 2000 as a replacement for the older ERP system (Rico, 2010).
Under the previous system, each of the five University of Massachusetts s campuses had its own
systems that included the software, hardware, and project teams. Each was independently ran,
modified, and maintained by its respected campus. The University of Massachusetts identified the
need for a centralized ERP system that could standardize the many processes within it across all the
campuses.
The University of Massachusetts chose PeopleSoft for its ERP needs. PeopleSoft was a software
company that produced supply chain management, human resource, customer relation management,
and financial management software. PeopleSoft would later be acquired by Oracle in 2005 (Bank,
2014).
The University of Massachusetts s ERP project would include the student modules, financials, and
human resources. Early in the system development life cycle, the separate campuses had conflicting
issues concerning the details of the ERP. Too much time was wasted on minute details and not enough
time was spent developing the work plan / project framework for the upcoming project (Solis, 2003).
Further, into the system development life cycle, more issues arose with leadership communication and
resources. There were also complaints that end users were not involved at the appropriate level. End

Case Study and Health Promotion Plan Paper
Being healthy can be defined as the relative state where a person is able to function well physically,
mentally, socially, and spiritually in order to express their unique potentialities within the environment
they are living (Health 2017). This paper will outline an interview and health promotion plan for L.

taken their toll on her body, resulting in obesity and chronic issues such as hypertension and Type 2

obesity as a result of poor eating choices and a lack of exercise. More compelling was the rationale
behind her choices and her inability to move on from the passing of her late husband. The health
promotion plan includes an emphasis on addressing Browns highest concern of major depression
followed by morbid obesity. The goal of Brown s health promotion plan will be her ability move on
from the past, get hold of her depression and make better life choices. These factors can be evaluated

There s so many company s that try to trade things between each other. Plant s try to trade out the back
door more often than you think and if anyone were to get caught there would be in huge trouble.
Key steps that a company should take, like The Cheesecake Factory could take in order to guarantee
the employees follow the code of conduct. First step is to have a customer service department that
takes care of all problems and investigates code of conduct issues. Another step that The Cheesecake
Factory can take to make sure the employees follow the code of conduct is to have all employees sign
the code of conduct when hired and to make sure the employees have a copy they can keep and make
sure to keep a copy in the employees file. Also need to make sure employee s get a handbook on all
these topics. This will make it possible for the employee to know all the code of conduct rules and
regulations.
One way that The Cheesecake Factory can engage in socially responsive activities in the community
like during Christmas employees could sign up to ring the salvation army bell. That s an awesome
way to give back to their community. Companies could donate food to the local food banks and
homeless shelters. There are so many families and veterans that are homeless and can t afford homes

Similarities Between New France And Canada
Have you ever thought about how similar and different New France was compared to Canada? Well,
think about all these activities the people in New France had compared to what we do on a daily basis.
For example, farming, hunting and gathering materials. We can do any of these activities today and we
don t do some of them. We farm today. We only hunt for pleasure and not to gather food because, we
have grocery stores. We don t need to gather materials because we have stores to buy materials.
In New France, you would have to hunt to get your meat. In Canada, you can go to the grocery store
to get meat. To prepare meat in New France, you would salt, smoke, or dry your meat. These were
different methods used to preserve food. In Canada, you can put meat in the refrigerator or the freezer.

A Vermont high school librarian is forced to resign because she fought the school board s decision to

An Indiana school board takes action that leads to the burning of many copies of a textbook that deals

The courts have time and again ruled that the Constitution prohibits
Congress from censorship of any form.
These two opposing sides have butted heads again and again leaving behind landmark cases for future
legal actions. One of the most famous of those cases was Pico vs. Board of Education, Island Trees
Union Free School District No. 26, which was the first school library censorship case to reach the
Supreme Court (Jones 35). In March
1976, the Island Trees School Board in New York removed eleven books that they deemed quot;anti
American, anti Christian, anti Semitic, and just plain filthy quot; (Berger 59) from the high school
library shelves. Among these books were Slaughterhouse Five by
Kurt Vonnegut, A Hero Ain t Nothing but a Sandwich by Alice Childress, and Soul on Ice by Eldridge
Cleaver (Jones 37). The board felt that it had quot;a moral obligation to protect the children in our
schools from this moral danger quot; (Berger 60). Five students then sued the school board on grounds
that their decision violated their First Amendment rights.
The suit was passed around the courts until June 1982 when the Supreme Court took up the cause and
ruled that the school board would have to defend its removal of the books.
The Supreme Court decided that since the library is used voluntarily, they can choose books there
freely and that, as Justice Brennan stated, quot;the First Amendment rights of students may be directly

Essay about Comparing Billy Budd and Christ
Comparing Billy and Christ in Billy Budd
Herman Melville s Billy Budd provides us with a summation and conclusive commentary on the
ambiguities of moral righteousness and social necessity. The conflict that arises pitting natural justice
in opposition to military justice essentially deliberates over whether the sacrifice of the individual is
required for the continuum and conservation of social order. The deep allegorical theme of the passion
of Christ that resides in Billy Budd illustrates Melville s adjudication on this issue. The sacrifice of
Billy Budd for the upholding of social order is an illusionary backdrop to Christ offering up His life
for the forgiveness of the sins of mankind. Melville implements this theological staple ... Show more

Part of Billy s appeal to his shipmates was due to his unparalleled feats of strength that had become
canonized amongst them. Just as Jesus tales of miracle workings and deeds helped to further His
legend, Billy s prodigious exploits and physical attributes in turn furthered his own: Tales of his
prowess were recited. Ashore he was the champion; afloat the spokesman; on every suitable occasion
always foremost (1486). The recantation of Billy manhandling Red Whiskers, who is openly hostile
towards Billy, and subsequent winning of his allegiance, can be viewed as an allegorical tale of Jesus
winning over the stubborn Simon Peter into His congregation of Apostles. Billy, like Christ, is a
symbol of peace and unites the other sailors into a familial contingent: But Billy came; and it was like
a Catholic priest striking peace in an Irish shindy. Not that he preached to them or said or did anything
in particular; but a virtue went out of him, sugaring the sour ones (1488). The familial aspect of the
crew is alluded to in the description of Billy not having any known relatives or family members: for
Billy, as will shortly be seen, his entire family was practically invested in himself (1490). This idea
goes along with Christian theology often invoking the image of the

The Jigsaw Classroom Is A Cooperative Learning Teaching
The jigsaw classroom is a cooperative learning teaching method used in school systems around the
United States. Its success found in the classroom with student participation has not gone unnoticed
and more and more schools have started to use this style of teaching. Similar to a jigsaw puzzle, the
jigsaw classroom works to connect students. Each student is an important piece to the learning process
and assigned a job to help create a final product. Due to the fact all students parts are so essential, each
student feels important, understands they need to complete their specific task or else they will

Instead of quitting on what they had done, and or just resegragating all the population.
Professor Aronson stepped forward and used his position of power to try and fix what was going on
and help students get along. Professor Aronson decided that the best thing for him to do is observe the
school and sit in on classes so that he could try and understand what was causing the tension between
students. After observing the confrontations and how classes were being conducted, he concluded that
the competitive nature of the students and their want to be the best one in each class was what was
fueling the hostility. He saw that students worked by themselves and the teachers were creating an
atmosphere that allowed them to compete for the top grade. The new goal of the professor was to
switch the focus in the classroom from competition to cooperation. Aronson came up with the idea to
divide students into small groups, mixing each group based on their race, ethnicity, gender, and made
them responsible for a specific portion of each lesson. This change in teaching method forced the quiet
and shy students to no longer be able to hide in their seats, the outspoken kids, or leaders would have
to hear what their classmate had to say. Due to the fact students were having to cooperate with one
another and all give input, the competitiveness of the classroom was lessened. The students needed to
start supporting

Amigo Brothers By Piri Thomas Antonio Cruz and Felix Vargas were both seventeen years old. They
were so together in friendship that they felt themselves to be brothers. They had known each other
since childhood, growing up on the lower east side of Manhattan in the same tenement building on
Fifth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B. Antonio was fair, lean, and lanky, while Felix was dark,
short, and husky. Antonio s hair was always falling over his eyes, while Felix wore his black hair in a

that want the same thing, and only one can have it. You understand, don tcha? Si, I know, Tony smiled.
No pulling punches. We go all the way. Yeah, that s right. Listen, Tony. Don t you think it s a good

Essay On Jurassic Park
In 1993, director Stephen Spielberg released the blockbuster hit Jurassic Park. The sci fi film explored
the potential outcome of cloning dinosaurs from prehistoric DNA. The velociraptors, dilophosaurus ,
and triceratops seemed to thrive from the beginning of the movie, hunting down prey. They had access
to the appropriate food, had appropriate habitats, and never seemed to struggle. In reality, however, if
scientists had the correct technology, dinosaurs would most likely not be able to adapt to today s
environment the way they did in the film. In the 21st century, current dangers include climate change,
food sources, and bacteria. The way dinosaurs adapt fully depend on scenarios based on their
surroundings. Climate change has changed drastically since the age of the dinosaurs. Ice caps have
melted, more frequent wildfires have occured, and the number of tropical storms has increased.
Humans have been able to survive with this change. Dinosaurs, however, are cold blooded, meaning
they adapt their body temperatures to their environment. If the temperature drops to dangerously low
levels, the organisms could die or become weak. When the dinosaurs lived, the temperature range was
more of a constant, making it easy to adapt. Although they may not be affected in the short term, the

Should Sociologists Attempt To Combat The Social Problem...
Distinguish between crime as a social and sociological problem. To what extent should sociologists
attempt to combat the social problem of crime?
Although similar in most senses, social and sociological problems have completely different
meanings. A social problem is an issue that exists within a society, which individuals are opposed to. A
sociological problem on the other hand is an issue that arises and is discovered by sociologists due to
sociological research. Sociologists study human social lives, activities, interactions, processes, and
organizations within the context of larger social, political, and economic forces. They examine how
social influences affect different individuals and groups, and the ways organizations and institutions ...

It is a violation of social norm, and therefore crime can also be described as an act of deviance.
Deviance can be both a minor or major offence. So how do sociologists go about combatting this
problem? An act of Social control can be defined broadly as an organized action intended to change
people s behaviour (Innes 2003). The fundamental goal of social control is to maintain social order
and the everyday behaviours on which individuals base their lives. One method for implementing
rules are through sanctions. Sanctions can be positive and also negative. Positive sanctions are prizes
given for fitting in with standards. Negative sanctions are disciplines for disregarding standards. Black
(1976) distinguishes four key styles of social control, each of which characterizes deviance and the
proper reaction to it in an alternate way. Penal social control capacities by denying certain social
practices and reacting to infringement with discipline. Compensatory social control obliges a
wrongdoer to pay a casualty to make up for a mischief submitted. Therapeutic social control includes
the utilization of treatment to return people to a typical state. Conciliatory social control expects to
accommodate the gatherings of a debate and commonly restore agreement to a social relationship that
has been harmed. While penal and compensatory social controls accentuate the utilization of assents,

The eighteen amendment was the first amendment to include a time limit for ratification. Each state

Prohibition triggered the rise of mass disobedience to its laws and took the amendments advocates by

Prohibition permanently corrupted law enforcement, the court system, and politics. Organized crime

My Day Of High School Essay
It had been a busy Friday. I came home from a long day of high school, and I was so excited because
for once I didn t have a basketball practice. On top of that, I had plans to go on a date, I was always so
busy that I never went on dates. This wasn t just an ordinary date though this just so happened to be

home, get a snack, lay down on the couch, prop my feet up, and relax for a while. Maybe even take a
nap before I got ready for my date. I did just that. I got home, skipped the snack because mom was
making dinner, laid on the couch, and was slowly drifting into a nap when all of a sudden I heard a big
bang, crash, and then silence. I jumped up, and ran to the kitchen. There was my mother lying on the
floor, with hot grease burning her, and food all over the floor she had just cleaned earlier that day. I

it. Usually mom won t relax, and she ll keep going. I examined my mother walking to the other room.

The Applications Of Cluster Analysis
Cluster Analysis
Introduction
Cluster analysis is the technique of grouping individuals into market segments on the basis of the
multivariate survey information (Dolnicar, 2003). Market segmentation remains one of the most
fundamental strategies for marketing. Organizations have to evaluate and choose the segments wisely
as their target as this will determine how the organization will be in the marketplace. The quality of
groupings management that an organization opts for is very paramount for the organizational success,
and it calls for professional use of techniques to determine useful segments. Cluster analysis provides

Mooi, 2014). In other words, it is the grouping together of potential customers by their willingness or
their potential willingness in buying of the product you plan to sell. It is important also to note that
customers should not only be willing to make purchases from your company but also they must also
have sufficient income for them to qualify to become your customers. The variables, in this case,
which are vital include gender, age, home ownership, or loyalty to a particular brand that you must
overcome.
3. Carrying out market analysis
Once the relevant data is in hand, the next step is the carrying out of a final market analysis. In this
phase, you ought to be looking at a specific customer base that you will have to target with your
product. You need to do a keen observation to find out if among the clusters formed there are
custgome4rs large enough to justify your targeted marketing. After identifying the customers that
justify your criteria, and then you must start your marketing campaign. At this juncture, you

What Is Grant s Loyalty In From Russia With Love
A main element of From Russia With Love is loyalty. Each character in the story is loyal to a cause,
themselves, passion, ideal, or to a nation. In chapter two we read of Grant giving information to the
Soviet Union as an exchange to meet with the Head of Secret Service. Grant knew he was bluffing of
the importance of the papers, but his chance to evade the National Service of England. I have a lot of

lies with himself. He desires to move to the Soviet Union for he believes he would be able to be used

The Influence Of Theatrical Media On College Life
Every situation can be viewed in multiple ways by different individuals. Growing up, I would describe
my development as struggle, positivity, and purposeful. The road to the college life was a personal
struggle. I actually didn t want to go because I didn t think there was anything there for me to achieve.
I was convinced that I wouldn t even excel due to upbringings and circumstances. Eventually, I
decided to commit and attend University because I just wanted something to do during my time. I
developed positivity, resources, and character through my college journey. I look at this journey as a
developing and purposeful time in my transition to adulthood. These four years in college can be seen

adaptation is a big part of the movie due to being in a completely different environment. They must

nostalgia for him. The movie suggests that it stands closely to the survival of humanity. If one doesn t

Battle Of Little Bighorn Research Paper
The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as Custer s Last Stand, is one of the worst military failures of
the United States. Early Americans tried to force Indians into reservations in order to steal their land.
They then proceeded to invade the areas set off for Indians in a search of gold. The greed of
Americans forced the Natives into a defensive position; they could no longer trust the intruders. They
fled from the reservations and were soon ordered back. They did not heed the call, so the Americans
attacked. The attacking battalion was easily defeated by the Natives, and no soldier remained alive.
Unfortunately, when reinforcements arrived they forced the Indians to surrender. Even though the
Natives were eventually subdued, the intruders suffered a major loss.
Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, leaders of the Sioux on the Great Plains, strongly resisted the mid 19th
century efforts of the U.S. government to confine their people to reservations ( Battle of the Little
Bighorn 1). The resistance was valid; when gold was found in ... Show more content on

Over 200 American soldiers were killed, with under 50 Indian casualties (Urwin 1). Even with this
great victory, when reinforcements arrived two days after the battle the Indians were forced to retreat.
The Native Americans that did not escape were forced to surrender when the army pressed in, but
Sitting Bull was able to escape to Canada ( Custer s Last Stand 1 ). Along with the overwhelming
force pushing in, the battle confirmed to may Americans their belief that Native Americans were
bloodthirsty and evil. The battle confirmed this belief and caused efforts to subdue them to increase,
and within five years all the Indians were confined to reserves ( Battle of the Little Bighorn 1). Many
years later, the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument (1946) and Indian Memorial (2003)

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Image Segmentation
Image Segmentation Image segmentation attempts to separate an image into its object classes.
Clustering methods, edge based methods, histogram based methods, and region growing methods
offer different advantages and disadvantages. The use of a Gaussian mixture expectation maximization
(EM) method has been investigated to realize segmentation specifically for x ray luggage scans [131].
Namely, k Gaussian distributions are added to best fit the image histogram, with each Gaussian
distribution corresponding to its own object class. In an x ray image, high density objects absorb more
x ray photons and appear more intensely than low density objects. In a typical x ray luggage scan
image, there will generally be a mix of low density, medium density, and high density objects.
Because of this characteristic, an image segmentation algorithm which requires knowledge of the
number of partitions in the segmentation, such as in EM segmentation, is still a viable and perhaps
even favorable method. By segmenting an x ray image ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both methods work on a 64x64 input window to extract feature and start by first determining edges
oriented at 0, 90, 45, and 45 degrees. In a method known as cell edge distribution (CED), each 64x64
edge map is divided into 16 16x16 cells, and the number of edge pixels in each of these cells is
counted. In another method known as principal projected edge distribution (PPED), edge pixels are
counted along the orientation of the edge map. For example, edge pixels in a horizontal edge map are
counted by counting the number of edge pixels in every 4 rows of the edge map. The result of either
feature extraction method is a 64 element feature vector. A third suggested feature vector is a simple

Social Media A Blessing or a Curse Good [time] everybody. Today, I am going to discuss the benefits
of social media but I shall also address the issues, as you would ve seen if you have added me as a
Facebook friend. The idea of social media is a new one; The first recognisable one was created in
1997 but it was 2 years later that the first blogging sites became truly popular. From here, the social
media tree has branched out, allowing us to develop new meanings for words such as follow or tweet
and to gather newer terms like reblog and has given us access to instant messaging, allowing all users
to connect easily. Sounds rather great, doesn t it? Connecting with friends and family or blogging

Shiloh And Trifles
In the midst of a tragedy, a person s morals and ethics can be put to the test. Under certain stressors, a
person can make decisions that drastically change the outcome of their situation. This is shown
comparatively in the readings Trifles by Susan Glaspell and Shiloh by Bobbie Ann Manson. Both
readings contain societies with stereotypical gender roles that impact the ethics of the women and men
in the stories while also making the characters questions their own morals.
In Trifles, the women uncover the dirty truth hidden away in the Wright s house. As they do this the
women become sensitive to Mrs. Wright who is the murderer in the story. Both Mrs. Hale and Mrs.
Peters humanize Mrs. Wright instead of just looking at her like a criminal. ... Show more content on

The Diplomatic Reasons Behind The Atomic Bombs
The atomic bombs were dropped with purpose of solving diplomatic reasons and to inevitably make
Japan surrender. The diplomatic goals the US had at the time was to prevent Russia from joining the
war against Japan, but the US wanted to win the war before the USSR joined in order to prevent Stalin
from claiming land in Japan and spreading communist influence throughout Asia. So in order to
impede the potential spread of Russian influence and communism in postĀ

the war as soon as possible or else the potential spread of Stalin and the Soviet Union s influence
might bring forth more devastating and graver consequences for the future of the US. The atomic

The Japanese people had a mentality of total war and if a conventional war were to be brought to their
homeland, the Japanese were ready and prepared to fight, which would have resulted in many
casualties on both sides. One possible consequence of a conventional war would have been a
prolonging of the war. Rather than spending months, even years, fighting a war in Japan and suffering
many more losses, the prospect of simply dropping a bomb over Japan and ending the war was more
appealing (Wainstock 73). Truman wanted to minimize the amount of time needed to force an
unconditional surrender because Russia was to join the fight against Japan within 90 days after VE

Anal ysis A company s stock price, in large part, is driven by the company s ability to generate
earnings. Therefore, it is useful for investors to analyze the proļ¬tability of a company before investing
in it. One way to do this is by calculating and tracking various proļ¬t margins, which reļ¬‚ect how
efļ¬ciently a company uses its resources. Proļ¬t margins are expressed as a ratio, speciļ¬cally earnings

The net proļ¬t margin (net margin) compares net income to sales, such that: Net proļ¬t margin = net

more competitive advantages. Furthermore, a high net margin provides a company with a cushion
during downturns in its business. Margin Analysis When analyzing proļ¬t margins, it is useful to
examine the trends for individual companies over time as well as to compare a company s levels to its
competitors and to industry norms. However, it is important to note that margins can differ drastically
from company to company and industry to industry. Some industries, historically, have much higher
margins relative to others. For this reason, when comparing companies on the basis of their proļ¬t
margins, it is vital to compare ļ¬rms in similar lines of business. Differences in margins for companies
in the same industry provide insights into industry and company speciļ¬c cost structures. Table 1

Eric Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
Developmental psychology is a study of the growth and the maturation of a person over time. How the
individual grows psychically, cognitively and how they are socially over time. All of these factors
shape us into the person new become. I have decided to study in and focus on Erik Erikson s theory of
psychosocial development. He takes a closer look on the choices that we are forced to deal with and
the conflicts they make during different parts of their life. His theory has eight theories, there are
different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an individual will encounter and have to
resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are presented to the individual during the stages,
because if they are not taking care of the individual will end up struggling with them later on in life.
Erikson has a developmental process that explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He
explains this within 8 stages; during these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a
positive or a negative outcome on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist
focusing on culture and society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S).
The first stage is trust vs. mistrust this occurs during the first year of life where the infant is uncertain
about the world and they have to develop feelings. The infant finds hope in trusting someone, and has
to figure out who they will choose not to trust. The

The poem is centered on one question: what did I know of love s austere and lonely offices? The
majority of the poem is examples of love s austere and lonely offices . One such example would be
when the boy polishes his shoes, probably getting ready to go to church. The father, although poor,
still passes on good values to his son by going to church on Sundays. Another example would be the
father waking up earlier than the rest of the house to get it warmed up. He deeply cares and loves his
family and doesn t want them to suffer in the cold and darkness as long as possible (only suffer at
night). Another example of the father s love is when he wakes up earlier and gets the wood from the
cold outside weather to keep the family and house warm instead of enlisting for help from his family.

The Ego s Weapons Against Id and Superego
Naturally, every person has psychological weapons to protect against anxious feeling or threatening
thoughts that will harm their mind or body. The ego is a powerful soldier that uses his weapons against
the conflicting demanding between the id and the superego that can result in anxious feelings in a
person. The ego powerful weapons are called defense mechanisms , it means the process that the ego
uses to distort reality to protect itself , a theory developed by Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic
approach (Friedman, 2016). The defense mechanism acts to lower or deflect anxious feelings that treat
a person, which some defense mechanisms will be explained below.
First, the reaction formation is the process which a person behaves opposite their true feelings against
a person or event. It means a reflection of the person who desperately fights against feelings that they
unconscious seeks but they tried to avoid because it is immoral or shameful according to their beliefs.
For example, a high schooler boy acts with hate toward his classmate. However, his true feelings for

Racism Is The Primary Determinant Of Human Traits And...
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, Racism is a belief that race is the primary determinant
of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a
particular race. Racism has been apart of the world every since the beginning of mankind and the use
of slaves from foreign countries. The slaves were seen as inferior people because they were a different
race. An example of racism that is widely known is when the British settlers came over to America
and forced the Native Americans to leave their land after they had helped the Spanish survive in the
wilderness. The British and the Native Americans waged in a war over how the cruel the British were
treating the Indians. In today s time, the only time when racism is talked about is when there is a event
that happens when a minority is killed by someone of a different color. There have been a handful are
events in America that have caused racial tension to increase especially in the past decade. Police
involved shootings such as, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray, and Oscar Grant have caused African
Americans to riot and cause millions of dollars in damage in retaliation because the offenders were
white and they were found innocent of their crimes. Not only have African Americans been affected

Wretched Catullus, Leave Off Playing The Fool
Introduction Over the history of the world there have been many great poets. One of the greatest poets
of the roman empire is Catullus. Catullus poetry is filled with strong emotion of being love torn. Even
though Catullus emotion filled poetry was written over 2000 years ago, it can still convey the painful
emotion of being love torn today.
Theme
Catullus poetry is based on his rocky affair with a women named Clodia. Clodia was married to a high
ranking Roman politician. In the poem Wretched Catullus, Leave off Playing the Fool, the pain of
being love torn in can be felt.
How much you loved her! More than any man
Can ever love. With her, what joy began!
That sunny world seemed yours in every way.
Yet now she does not want you, and alas,
You must not chase her nor live wretchedly,
Thus make your heart as hard as it can be.

Abstract: Software architecture is important because of communication among stakeholders, Design
decisions for understanding software, transferable design of a system. Software architecture represents
a common design of a system that most if not all of the system s stakeholders can use as a basis for
mutual understanding, negotiation, agreement, and communication. Software architecture manifests
the earliest design decisions about a system, and these early bindings carry weight .It is also the
earliest point at which design decisions governing the system to be built can be analyzed. Software
architecture constitutes a relatively small, intellectually understandable model for how a system is
structured and how its elements work together, and this model is transferable across systems. There
are different types of architectural styles: Distributed architecture, data flow architecture, implicit
asynchronous architecture, data centered architecture, hierarchical architecture and interaction
oriented architecture. This paper compares all the architectural styles and aspects of comparison are
category, styles, advantages, disadvantages, examples.

What Does Elena Symbolize In Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan
In most stories, authors will put an object in a story to symbolize a deeper meaning that is meant to be
conveyed to the reader. In Rules of the Game by Amy tan, the author uses black and white chess
pieces on a checked board to symbolize a deeper meaning in the short story. Throughout the story we
are able to recognize the deeper meaning to the pieces and board than just a game used for fun. The
chess pieces and checkered board signify a battle field between Elena the main character and her
mother. When Elena has her first tournament her mother comes along to watch. Before the tournament
starts, Elena tells her mother that if she loses then she would bring shame on the family. The mother
responds, Is shame you fall down nobody push you. The mothers sense of hypocrisy arises in this
statement because the mother pushes her daughter around. She then gave Elena a tablet of jade, for
good luck and she sits in the stands. As Elena approaches the game board she completely forgets about
her opponent and only sees the white pieces on her side and the black pieces on the other, she hears
whispers in her head. We can infer that the mother is making Elena nervous, ... Show more content on

Economic Distress On France s Regressive Taxation System
Furthermore, economic distress was furthered upon France s regressive taxation system where
evidence suggests it caused the Third Estate to be deprived of food and drove many to the brink of
starvation which in turn led to social unrest. One possible interpretation of the taxation system in place
is that of Jacques Necker who condemned it as a real monstrosity in the eyes of reason . Necker s
criticisms of the taxation system can be seen by the proportion of tax levied on the Third Estate who
had to pay a tenth of their income to the state and a 5% property tax called the vingtiĆØme which was a
tax on the number of people in the family. The long term implications of these taxes were brutal to the
Third Estate as agricultural yields were declining yet taxes were growing steadily higher. This is
arguably something King Louis XVI has to take responsibility for as he aggravated the situation with
his excessive spending with total disregard of France s fiscal problems as he ordered to build
Versailles with gold decorations; this unnecessary spending furthered the debt, equally Marie
Antoinette s unwarranted spending led to anger among the Third Estate. Whilst it can certainly be
argued the excessive spending of the monarch was not a direct cause of the economic problems thus
blame cannot be entirely placed on Louis XVI as those before him, Louis XIV and Louis XV also
spent excessive amounts, as they were accustomed to this style of living. Nevertheless the
combination of other

National Library of Medicine). The body cells become insulin resistant meaning that their sensitivity
is reduced to insulin (U.S. National Library of Medicine). Individuals who have untreated type II
diabetes are prone to other severe diseases such as atherosclerosis and hypertension, therefore it is
very important to stay active and eat healthy (U.S. National Library of Medicine).
Prevalence of the disease: Incidence: this is statistical how many people get/have the disease in
various populations
Type II diabetes is often diagnosed later on in life so it is referred to as adult onset diabetes (U.S.
National Library of Medicine). In 2012, the World Health Organization reported that 1.5 million
deaths were directly caused by diabetes (World Health Organization, 2015). The WHO reported that
90% of diagnosed diabetes results in type II diabetes (World Health Organization, 2015). In 2014, they
also reported that in low and middle income families more than 80% of deaths occur because of
diabetes (World Health Organization, 2015). These deaths simply occurred because people were not
eating healthy and receiving enough nutrients as well as not getting enough exercise (World Health
Organization, 2015). Individuals who live in a community that lacks healthy food sources such as
grocery stores are more likely to develop type II diabetes (World Health Organization, 2015). In the

smartphone and tablet.
When it comes to science technology South Africa has been no slouch, in 2011 they were able to
produce a full body X ray that emits up to 10 times less harmful dose than regular X ray systems.
Other inventions they were able to produce are the fingerprint identification classifier,3D Underwater

Citizens view all levels of government in the country as corrupt and lazy yet many still believe that the
government is the best option for making things better. Since 1994, the country has basically been a
one part country ruled by the African National Congress (ANC). They have had a two thirds majority
since the creation of the new constitution and has used that power many times to alter the constitution.
The ANC is considered to be pretty far left on their platform and policies. They believe in living
wages, a very strong social safety net, and guarantee living quarters. The political scene has been
shaking up recently, the ANC has been losing significant votes in major cities and other political
parties are now gaining traction within the political sphere. The legal oversight of the country is mix.
There is a high rate of serious crimes going on within the country. If you are poor or unconnected you
can easily be charged and convicted while a wealthy person is seen as someone who can literally get
away with murder.
Aesthetics
South Africa cherish the past. Though they may like the past, they do not shy away from the popular
culture. There is great diversity with black musicians that have developed a unique style called
Kwaito. It s said to have taken over their radio stations and magazines. It is a variant of house music
featuring the use of African sounds and samples. Typically at a slower tempo range than other styles of
house music, Kwaito

In The Things They Carried , Lieutenant Cross most important thing was his eternal love for a woman
named Martha, who didn t love him back. He would often think about her, when he was suppose to be
paying attention to his military team. The main character, Jackson Jackson, showed how important the
regalia that was once is grandma s was to him. This story from What You Pawn, I Will Redeem, was
about a poor indian who needed to get $1000 to get his regalia back, because he wanted to be a hero to
his family. He was proud of himself getting the regalia back, even though he ended up getting the
regalia for free. In Aunt Ida Pieces a Quilt, Ida was known by her family to be the one who can make

Gaul and then crushed Ariovistus, a German chieftain, who was building his political power amid the
Sequani, a rival tribe to the Aedui. From there, Caesar extended Roman arms north with military

  • 2. Vermeer In Bosnia By Lawrence Weschler In the text Vermeer in Bosnia by Lawrence Weschler, Weschler builds an argument surrounding the need of inventing peace . Throughout the text, Weschler refers to different individuals to build up his claim. In each part, Weschler focuses and describes each individual as a unique existence. From murders to peacemakers, from past to present, Wechsler individualizes them from their groups in order to look at each with an unbiased, holistic point of view, developing a clear goal for achieving peace. To further develop his argument, Weschler focuses on Jan Vermeer, an artist who spent his entire life dedicated to drawing an ideal, peaceful environment which was non existent during his time. Weschler repeatedly included Vermeer in different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe it s my lack of artistic taste, but even after the realization, I was still unable to arrive at the same interpretation of the woman in the portrait as Weschler. Legacy, on the other hand, is clearly defined and nearly constant even as a large span of time has passed. Vermeer does include legacies, but with limited use, cutting off a reliable source to back up his argument. The use of interpretations allows his argument to be disputed and possibly rejected. After years of continuous violence and war, it is unlikely to seek out and prosecute the few that initiated the conflict since they are most likely no longer around anymore. Even if a descendant is found, individuality alone may not suffice for prosecution, nor will it necessarily be a step towards inventing peace. They might as well put up a random stranger, make up a case, and claim to have prosecuted the root of the evil. On the other hand, prosecuting a family known to have a legacy of criminal and inhumane acts is much more likely to lead to step towards inventing peace. Though it may disregard the individuals involved, it will truly be the end of one bloody legacy. There are many instances where legacy trumps the interpreted individuality. In Ta Nehisi Coates article The First White President , he brings up the idea of the white legacy aka the bloody heirloom and uses it to describe Donald Trump s presidency. Coates develops an argument surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The University Of Massachusetts s Management The University of Massachusetts suffered a major ERP failure in 2003. The university had begun work on the $10 million dollar project in 2000 as a replacement for the older ERP system (Rico, 2010). Under the previous system, each of the five University of Massachusetts s campuses had its own systems that included the software, hardware, and project teams. Each was independently ran, modified, and maintained by its respected campus. The University of Massachusetts identified the need for a centralized ERP system that could standardize the many processes within it across all the campuses. The University of Massachusetts chose PeopleSoft for its ERP needs. PeopleSoft was a software company that produced supply chain management, human resource, customer relation management, and financial management software. PeopleSoft would later be acquired by Oracle in 2005 (Bank, 2014). The University of Massachusetts s ERP project would include the student modules, financials, and human resources. Early in the system development life cycle, the separate campuses had conflicting issues concerning the details of the ERP. Too much time was wasted on minute details and not enough time was spent developing the work plan / project framework for the upcoming project (Solis, 2003). Further, into the system development life cycle, more issues arose with leadership communication and resources. There were also complaints that end users were not involved at the appropriate level. A Vermont high school librarian is forced to resign because she fought the school board s decision to remove Richard Price s The Wanderers, and to quot;restrict quot; the use of Stephen King s Carrie and Patrick Mann s Dog Day Afternoon (Jones 33). An Indiana school board takes action that leads to the burning of many copies of a textbook that deals with drugs and the sexual behavior of teenagers (Berger 61). The courts have time and again ruled that the Constitution prohibits Congress from censorship of any form. These two opposing sides have butted heads again and again leaving behind landmark cases for future legal actions. One of the most famous of those cases was Pico vs. Board of Education, Island Trees Union Free School District No. 26, which was the first school library censorship case to reach the Supreme Court (Jones 35). In March 1976, the Island Trees School Board in New York removed eleven books that they deemed quot;anti American, anti Christian, anti Semitic, and just plain filthy quot; (Berger 59) from the high school library shelves. Among these books were Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, A Hero Ain t Nothing but a Sandwich by Alice Childress, and Soul on Ice by Eldridge Cleaver (Jones 37). The board felt that it had quot;a moral obligation to protect the children in our schools from this moral danger quot; (Berger 60). Five students then sued the school board on grounds that their decision violated their First Amendment rights. The suit was passed around the courts until June 1982 when the Supreme Court took up the cause and ruled that the school board would have to defend its removal of the books. • 9. Essay about Comparing Billy Budd and Christ Comparing Billy and Christ in Billy Budd Herman Melville s Billy Budd provides us with a summation and conclusive commentary on the ambiguities of moral righteousness and social necessity. The conflict that arises pitting natural justice in opposition to military justice essentially deliberates over whether the sacrifice of the individual is required for the continuum and conservation of social order. The deep allegorical theme of the passion of Christ that resides in Billy Budd illustrates Melville s adjudication on this issue. The sacrifice of Billy Budd for the upholding of social order is an illusionary backdrop to Christ offering up His life for the forgiveness of the sins of mankind. Melville implements this theological staple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Part of Billy s appeal to his shipmates was due to his unparalleled feats of strength that had become canonized amongst them. Just as Jesus tales of miracle workings and deeds helped to further His legend, Billy s prodigious exploits and physical attributes in turn furthered his own: Tales of his prowess were recited. Ashore he was the champion; afloat the spokesman; on every suitable occasion always foremost (1486). The recantation of Billy manhandling Red Whiskers, who is openly hostile towards Billy, and subsequent winning of his allegiance, can be viewed as an allegorical tale of Jesus winning over the stubborn Simon Peter into His congregation of Apostles. Billy, like Christ, is a symbol of peace and unites the other sailors into a familial contingent: But Billy came; and it was like a Catholic priest striking peace in an Irish shindy. Not that he preached to them or said or did anything in particular; but a virtue went out of him, sugaring the sour ones (1488). The familial aspect of the crew is alluded to in the description of Billy not having any known relatives or family members: for Billy, as will shortly be seen, his entire family was practically invested in himself (1490). Instead of quitting on what they had done, and or just resegragating all the population. Professor Aronson stepped forward and used his position of power to try and fix what was going on and help students get along. Professor Aronson decided that the best thing for him to do is observe the school and sit in on classes so that he could try and understand what was causing the tension between students. After observing the confrontations and how classes were being conducted, he concluded that the competitive nature of the students and their want to be the best one in each class was what was fueling the hostility. He saw that students worked by themselves and the teachers were creating an atmosphere that allowed them to compete for the top grade. The new goal of the professor was to switch the focus in the classroom from competition to cooperation. Aronson came up with the idea to divide students into small groups, mixing each group based on their race, ethnicity, gender, and made them responsible for a specific portion of each lesson. This change in teaching method forced the quiet and shy students to no longer be able to hide in their seats, the outspoken kids, or leaders would have to hear what their classmate had to say. Due to the fact students were having to cooperate with one another and all give input, the competitiveness of the classroom was lessened. The students needed to start supporting ... The sci fi film explored the potential outcome of cloning dinosaurs from prehistoric DNA. The velociraptors, dilophosaurus , and triceratops seemed to thrive from the beginning of the movie, hunting down prey. They had access to the appropriate food, had appropriate habitats, and never seemed to struggle. In reality, however, if scientists had the correct technology, dinosaurs would most likely not be able to adapt to today s environment the way they did in the film. In the 21st century, current dangers include climate change, food sources, and bacteria. The way dinosaurs adapt fully depend on scenarios based on their surroundings. Climate change has changed drastically since the age of the dinosaurs. Ice caps have melted, more frequent wildfires have occured, and the number of tropical storms has increased. Humans have been able to survive with this change. Dinosaurs, however, are cold blooded, meaning they adapt their body temperatures to their environment. A sociological problem on the other hand is an issue that arises and is discovered by sociologists due to sociological research. The fundamental goal of social control is to maintain social order and the everyday behaviours on which individuals base their lives. One method for implementing rules are through sanctions. This power enabled gangs to find new avenues to exploit, as well as new ways to run old types business, such as gambling. Similarly, organized crime continues today because of the prohibition on gambling, prostitution and drugs. Where there is demand, there will be supply. Prohibition permanently corrupted law enforcement, the court system, and politics. Organized crime was huge, and it had a lot of money and influence. Policemen and politicians were bribed and blackmailed. Many court cases required payoffs to get a fair hearing. In other words, corruption abounded and the people began distrusting the government. On top of that, I had plans to go on a date, I was always so busy that I never went on dates. This wasn t just an ordinary date though this just so happened to be the most popular guy in school . I was very excited, but after school all that I wanted to do was go home, get a snack, lay down on the couch, prop my feet up, and relax for a while. Maybe even take a nap before I got ready for my date. I did just that. I got home, skipped the snack because mom was making dinner, laid on the couch, and was slowly drifting into a nap when all of a sudden I heard a big bang, crash, and then silence. I jumped up, and ran to the kitchen. There was my mother lying on the floor, with hot grease burning her, and food all over the floor she had just cleaned earlier that day. I helped her up, and took her to the bedroom where I proceeded to help her clean up, putt burn ointment on, and told her, just relax mom, I ll take care of it. She just sat there so ashamed. This was a normal occurrence; my mom falling. But this time there just seemed to be something a little bit different about it. Usually mom won t relax, and she ll keep going. I examined my mother walking to the other room. Her walk worse than usual. I had a lump in my throat as I asked, Could I examine your ankle, and leg? She said, I guess. But I am fine. Segmentation After an organization gathers data from the market research, an organization then can embark on market segmentation. As companies cannot connect with all of their potential customers, they need to divide markets into groups of consumers, clients, or customers with similar needs or wants (Sarstedt Mooi, 2014). In other words, it is the grouping together of potential customers by their willingness or their potential willingness in buying of the product you plan to sell. It is important also to note that customers should not only be willing to make purchases from your company but also they must also have sufficient income for them to qualify to become your customers. The variables, in this case, which are vital include gender, age, home ownership, or loyalty to a particular brand that you must overcome. 3. Carrying out market analysis Once the relevant data is in hand, the next step is the carrying out of a final market analysis. In this phase, you ought to be looking at a specific customer base that you will have to target with your product. Clustering methods, edge based methods, histogram based methods, and region growing methods offer different advantages and disadvantages. The use of a Gaussian mixture expectation maximization (EM) method has been investigated to realize segmentation specifically for x ray luggage scans [131]. Namely, k Gaussian distributions are added to best fit the image histogram, with each Gaussian distribution corresponding to its own object class. In an x ray image, high density objects absorb more x ray photons and appear more intensely than low density objects. In a typical x ray luggage scan image, there will generally be a mix of low density, medium density, and high density objects. His theory has eight theories, there are different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an individual will encounter and have to resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are presented to the individual during the stages, because if they are not taking care of the individual will end up struggling with them later on in life. Erikson has a developmental process that explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He explains this within 8 stages; during these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a positive or a negative outcome on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist focusing on culture and society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S). According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, Racism is a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. Racism has been apart of the world every since the beginning of mankind and the use of slaves from foreign countries. The slaves were seen as inferior people because they were a different race. An example of racism that is widely known is when the British settlers came over to America and forced the Native Americans to leave their land after they had helped the Spanish survive in the wilderness. Professor SICSR SICSR SICSR Abstract: Software architecture is important because of communication among stakeholders, Design decisions for understanding software, transferable design of a system. Software architecture represents a common design of a system that most if not all of the system s stakeholders can use as a basis for mutual understanding, negotiation, agreement, and communication. Software architecture manifests the earliest design decisions about a system, and these early bindings carry weight .It is also the earliest point at which design decisions governing the system to be built can be analyzed. Software architecture constitutes a relatively small, intellectually understandable model for how a system is structured and how its elements work together, and this model is transferable across systems. There are different types of architectural styles: Distributed architecture, data flow architecture, implicit asynchronous architecture, data centered architecture, hierarchical architecture and interaction oriented architecture. This paper compares all the architectural styles and aspects of comparison are category, styles, advantages, disadvantages, examples. In Rules of the Game by Amy tan, the author uses black and white chess pieces on a checked board to symbolize a deeper meaning in the short story. Throughout the story we are able to recognize the deeper meaning to the pieces and board than just a game used for fun. The chess pieces and checkered board signify a battle field between Elena the main character and her mother. When Elena has her first tournament her mother comes along to watch. Before the tournament starts, Elena tells her mother that if she loses then she would bring shame on the family. The mother responds, Is shame you fall down nobody push you. The mothers sense of hypocrisy arises in this statement because the mother pushes her daughter around. She then gave Elena a tablet of jade, for good luck and she sits in the stands. • 43. Economic Distress On France s Regressive Taxation System Furthermore, economic distress was furthered upon France s regressive taxation system where evidence suggests it caused the Third Estate to be deprived of food and drove many to the brink of starvation which in turn led to social unrest. One possible interpretation of the taxation system in place is that of Jacques Necker who condemned it as a real monstrosity in the eyes of reason . Necker s criticisms of the taxation system can be seen by the proportion of tax levied on the Third Estate who had to pay a tenth of their income to the state and a 5% property tax called the vingtiĆØme which was a tax on the number of people in the family. The long term implications of these taxes were brutal to the Third Estate as agricultural yields were declining yet taxes were growing steadily higher. This is arguably something King Louis XVI has to take responsibility for as he aggravated the situation with his excessive spending with total disregard of France s fiscal problems as he ordered to build Versailles with gold decorations; this unnecessary spending furthered the debt, equally Marie Antoinette s unwarranted spending led to anger among the Third Estate. Whilst it can certainly be argued the excessive spending of the monarch was not a direct cause of the economic problems thus blame cannot be entirely placed on Louis XVI as those before him, Louis XIV and Louis XV also spent excessive amounts, as they were accustomed to this style of living.
