Comprimination Of Security Systems And Intrusion Detection...
The correct configuration of security technologies is mandatory to balance the need for access and
safety of information (Cavusoglu Raghunathan, 2009). Many companies use the layered approach
to ensure protection of their network information system (Cavusoglu Raghunathan, 2009). By using
this approach, many securitytechnologies rely on each other to operate effectively (Cavusoglu
Raghunathan, 2009). Three technologies commonly used together are Intrusion Detection Systems,
Intrusion Prevention Systems, and firewalls. When configured properly, these technologies
complement each other (Cavusoglu Raghunathan, 2009).
Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are mainly intended to safeguard the availability, confidentiality,
and integrity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main function of the IPS is to prevent an intrusion (Intrusion Prevention System: First Line of
Defense, 2012).
An example of an IPS is the Cisco Intrusion Prevention System (SC magazine, 2010). It
safeguards the total network with a variety of deployment options (SC magazine, 2010). This IPS
is inline and networked based designed to categorize and prohibit familiar and unfamiliar threats
to a network (SC magazine, 2010). Cisco IPS is the only IPS that is supported by Cisco Security
Intelligence Operations (SC magazine, 2010). It is also the only IPS that includes risk rating and
global correlation capabilities (SC magazine, 2010).
Many times, the terms IPS and IDS are confusing, but an IPS is an extension of an IDS (Intrusion
Prevention System: First Line of Defense, 2012). The two together is known as an Intrusion
Detection Prevention System (IDPS). The duo adds another line of protection behind firewalls
(Weaver, Weaver, Farwood, 2012). Common features between the two are monitoring traffic,
system activity observation, and creating logs (Intrusion Prevention System: First Line of Defense,
2012). The main difference between the two is the IPS s ability to prevent/block any attempt of
intrusion (Intrusion Prevention System: First Line of Defense, 2012).
They work together to identify signs of an attack, transmit alerts, and respond to the event (Weaver,
Weaver, Farwood, 2012). Components of the IDS

Buddhist Teachings In Canada
Buddhist teachings and tradition strongly emphasize the ideas of virtue, kindness and compassion.
These ideals are at the core of Buddhist tradition and they exemplify right ways of living in
relation to building a better future and after life. Buddhist teachings can also offer us a lot of
insight into the current Refugee Crisis, and provide us with salient understandings and conceptions
of how to directly deal with the influx of refugees from a moral and virtuous center. In regards to
the responses that both Canada and the USA have taken, Buddhist teachings can shed light onto
how these approaches are both good and bad, in their own respects.

Buddhist teachings can help remedy this by ensuring the humanitarian needs are put first, and that
compassion and kindness address these situations rather than fear and violence. This is made clear
by understanding how Canada and the USA have taken different approaches to the crisis, one
mirroring more Buddhist ideals, and one not. It is also clear that Buddhist teachings are practical in
society and they can thrive and provide new levels of analysis to multicultural societies such as

The Figs That I Will Be Discuss And Giving Background...
Three of the Figs that I will be discuss and giving background information on is Black Spanish,
Blanquette, and Celeste. Figs are flowering plants in the mulberry family; figs are important
crops in areas where it grow commercially. Figs are considered exotic around the world; some can
be sweet and juicy when it is ripe. Figs can be all sorts of different colors such as red, yellow,
purple skinned or green striped, and all of them have their own unique flavor (1). Figs have
health benefits to them such as high fibers and they also have several essential minerals and
vitamins (1). Figs have a unique antioxidant that can help fight cancer, phototoxic activity of
melanoma cells, and dieting (1). Figs are a crop that should be continued to grow around the
world. The Black Spanish is a common fig that is native to western Asia. Black Spanish is a
characteristic of Fig Cultivars. That ripens in June and usually around August. Black Spanish
can be bought for one pound at a rate of ninety to twenty nine dollars. This is a small tree that is
has purplish brown fruits with a red center; this fig is usually medium sized. The black Spanish
can be eaten fresh or even preserved. These leaves can grow up to three to five lobed, it is also
about four to ten inches long once it is completely done growing. Black Spanish tolerant of a wide
variety of soils and loves heat it does not need pollination. Something important to keep in mind is
to protect young figs from gophers; they can be

Diversity Is Becoming More And More Important As Years Go
The concept of diversity is becoming more and more important as years go by. This concept is not
as easy as it may appear; diversity is not just about acceptance and respect. Understanding what
diversity is means understanding that each person is unique; it means understanding and
recognising our differences; moreover, moving beyond differences of gender, race, age, religious
beliefs and political beliefs. Understanding and managing diversityis trying to make sure that all
those differences fit together like pieces of a mosaic. The concept is extremely important in
today s society, following everything that has been happening related to this matter. We consider
ourselves a tolerant and evolved society; yet we still hear of people of colour discriminated and
killed everyday, we still hear of women living in horrible conditions, deprived of their dignity and
sold as slaves. It appears obvious so, that diversity has to be taken into consideration when we talk
about organisations. Everything that is happening in the world is reflected into firms too;
organizations are, in fact, part of a wider social system.
That is why managing diversity is possibly one of the hardest challenges that managers have to
face in today s world. This essay is going to examine the concept of diversity in organisations
today, why we have to consider it important and what kinds of advantages companies receive.
Moreover, the essay will focus on gender diversity showing that even a lot of efforts still

Human Resource Management in Business Context
Performance bonuses offer a win win gain to both organisations and employees. Discuss, making
reference to both theory and case examples
Introduction
Is performance related pay (PRP) really a motivator for employees and is it an effective way for
organisations to gain and retain high performing staff. This is questionable especially as
organisations differ in size, organisational culture (therefore differing needs), the ability and/or
resources to manage an effective process to support PRP. This study will explore whether
performance bonuses offer a win win for both the organisation and the employees, using primarily
the public sector, with reference to the private sector.

Intangible services are much harder to quantify.
Performance Management Cycle
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are formed as part of the performance and appraisal process to
measure the output of an individual. The performance appraisal allows a comparison to be made of
the actual performance against expected performance (KPIs), which is linked to feedback and
whether the individual has warranted a reward.
However, there are many potential problems with the performance appraisal system. The process
can become a bureaucratic process with managers seeing it as a tick box exercise to be
completed once a year. There could be a lack of understanding of the objectives by the employee,
or the organisation may not have a clear strategy and furthermore the process is subjective and open
to human bias. It is also very difficult to quantify individual performance such as intangible
elements, as mentioned earlier. So it could be argued that the process is not very transparent.
To overcome this, Beer et al. introduced the Harvard Model (Gilmore. S, 2009, p.9) which takes
into account a wider range of stakeholders interests to provide an input into the appraisal process
which allows the reduction of a bias opinion of just one person. It is stated as reduction, as the
process is still subjective and open to a range of perceptual errors although

Henry Viii Influence
Literature has become the most important factor in the construction of the English monarchy. It
has become the way in which people communicate and share their ideas throughout the world.
English literature is the essential piece in ruling a country and determining the future for that
country. In England, English literature has evolved through a number of versions due to the
changes made to the policies and laws, religion, culture, and the monarchy. Henry VIII was born
on June 28, 1491 by Elizabeth of York and Henry VII at Greenwich Palace (BBC News). In his
early age, he was very interested in the arts and enjoyed reading literature. In 1509, Henry VIII
succeeded his father Henry VII (1457 1509), but had originally become heir to the throne after his
older brother, Prince Arthur, died in 1502 (Henry VIII (r.1509 1547)). He reigned during the
House of Tudor monarchy when he was only eighteen years old until he died in 1547, having
Edward VI succeed him. Throughout his years of reign, he married six women including: Catherine
of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. In
1527, Henry divorced Catherine of Aragon, since she could no longer conceive children, and
became infatuated with Anne Boleyn (Henry s Divorce). This decision led to the English Protestant
Reformation which were a series of events...[in] which the Church of England broke away from the
authority of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church (English Reformation).

The Cult Of Personality
The song starts with an introduction from a male voice, speaking as though he were not from
earth. The sound of the electric guitar explodes into your ears, introducing the piece as a rock
song. This was quickly followed by the sound of heavy, but simple beat that would continue
throughout the song. The singer grabs your attention with a demand that the listener look into his
eyes. The verses that follow are simple and sung clearly, I can easily imagine a large crowd singing
along to it as though it were their anthem. The entire song has a rhythmic energy running through it,
making it the kind of song a person would want to dance to. The guitarsolo is a break from the
steady beat that permeates the song, with its high pitched electronic sound. As the song continues,
the beat becomes faster, the guitar more frenzied and the singer repeating the statement, I am the
cult of personality , till a different male voice closes the song.... Show more content on

This is made clear in the title of the song, Cult of personality, which refers to a person who uses
the media available to them to create an idealized image of themselves as the hero of a
population. The singer mentions the names of four great leaders; namely Mussolini, Joseph
Stalin, John F. Kennedy and Mahatma Ghandi. The juxtaposition of Mussolini and Joseph Stalin
s names with John F. Kennedy and Mahatma Ghandi s names shows that The Cult of
Personality can be used by all types of people. It is a phenomena that can be used to gain support
for good or bad intentions. The singer asserts that any leader who goes against the agenda of
their time and place is a dead leader, when he sings, when a leader speaks that leader dies . This
could be a reference to Malcom X, who was killed because he led African Americans to oppose the
discriminatory laws in the USA at the

Toy Safety Standards And Regulations
The toy industry is consistently growing and expanding within the United States. In 2015, the toy
industry grew 7% in domestic sales from 2014, with a net worth of $19.48 billion. Demand for
toys is vastly seasonal with nearly 70% of toy sales taking place before, during, and just after the
Christmas season. Because of this, it is important for those within the toyindustry to predict demand
during peak season in order to avoid heavy markdowns after the holidays. Legos largest competitors
are Mattel and Hasbro. However, with Lego s net income as a percentage of sales at an impressive
24%, they greatly surpass Mattel and Hasbro with net income coming in at 14% and 7%,
respectively.
Because the toy industry makes use of assembly lines, machines, and manual labor; it is considered
a manufacturing, or secondary, industry.
The United States has some of the strictest toy safety standards and regulations in the world. Any
toy intended for use by children age 12 and under must be third party tested and certified with a
Children s Product Certificate (CPSC). However, not every section of the Children s Product
Certificate may apply to any given toy. The document is lengthy with a multitude of provisions.
Each provision may not necessarily may to any given toy. For example, toys that don t make and
noise would not need to adhere to sound provisions. Although certain sections may be exempt, each
applicable provision much be in compliance with the toy safety standard.

Analysis Of Edward Abbey s Desert Solitaire
Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey begins in the area surrounding Moab, Utah. He discusses his
intense love and adoration for the land. This theme of laying out the land for the reader
continues from Chapters 1 5. It is apparent the Abbey adores nature in its purest form. Abbey
rarely has visitors of the human kind, he is more often visited by snakes, deer, birds, and other
wildlife than the parks superintendent, the chief park ranger, and a few tourists here and there.
Abbey finds himself a little lonely from time to time in the beginning of the book but by Chapter
3: The Serpents of Paradise he finds a friend. He first encounters a not so friendly creature, a faded
midget, a poisonous rattlesnake lying underneath his doorstep. Abbey often finds himself talking to
the animals in this book, so he decides to issue the snakea warning and remove it. When it comes
back to the trailer a second time, Abbey keeps his promise and kills the snake. Eventually, he
finds another snake, which he recognizes is an enemy to the rattlesnake, and he sets out to
domesticate it. Abbey decides to take it on excursions with him, wrapping the snake around his
waist underneath his shirt. Eventually, the snake was released and never returned. In Chapter 4,
Abbey focuses more on the plants in the region, citing his favorite wildflower, the cliffrose, and
going over his weekly schedules. His busiest days are the weekends when campers come, after
he cleans, makes his rounds, takes a couple days off, restocks supplies, and then starts all over
again. Chapter 5, is when things start to get heavy. It is at this point Abbey starts revealing how
truly frustrated he is with the US government and the tourists. Abbey is fiercely protective of the
park and soon discovers that roads will be paved in the park to increase tourism. He is horrified
at the aspect of a new road because he sees automobiles as an enemy to the National Park industry.
To Abbey, cars limit tourists from actually see the land, stating that a short distance on bike or foot
is much more appreciated than a very long distance in a car. He also suggests a new plan for
national parks in order to preserve their authenticity. Abbey thinks that tourists should travel to the
campsites

Grey s Anatomy Clinical Trial Participation
Clinical Trial Participation In the popular television drama, Grey s Anatomy, the main stars
conducted a series of clinical trials that introduced Seattle into a new form of research. After
their trial called the Shepard Method grew into a success, the program s audience became aware
of clinical trials in reality. In the previous years, clinical trials have evolved and made a big
impact on society. However, there is controversy about whether or not one should take part in
clinical trials. People should participate in clinical trials because they are safe, a way to earn
money, a positive impact on the medical field, easy to perform in, and highly successful.

But, this is proven wrong because many studies do not consist of any long or hard tasks. According
to the National Library of Medicine, a majority of trials require minimal amounts of time and
effort ( Clinical Research ). One example of a research procedure is shown by Bridge, right
handed males aged 18 to 40 take part in a trial on the pain killing effects of Botox, which
involves two outpatient visits. This case presents the low complexity of a trial; in this
circumstance only two visits are needed. Also, the only qualifications needed to participate in
this case include: being a middle aged, right handed male. A survey shows that studies are simple
to take part in because the most common discomfort is a headache from caffeine withdrawal
(Bridge). Bridge clarifies that studies do not involve many extreme responsibilities to be
performed from the participant because the hardest task is to avoid drinking caffeine. A main
reason for a trial to run smoothly and efficiently, without causing the patient to complete tough
labor is due to the health professionals. The article titled Putting Yourself On Trial justifies, hard
work is carried out by our professional medical team, which leaves you free to relax and enjoy the
facilities (Bridge). Completing simple tasks is the key to participating in an easy clinical

Status Quo, From High School Musical
When you first referred to this assignment, I immediately thought about the song called Status
Quo from High School Musical. This was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager. The
song plays in the movie while Gabrielle s friends are telling her that if she dates Troy, the popular
basketball player, it will mess us the status quo. In a cute dance number they break out in song in
the cafeteria singing. From watching that movie, I already had an understanding of what I needed
to reflect on.
I am a very organized person. At the beginning of the semester, I read through the syllabus. I
knew that we would have a reflection paper on the course, so I have been preparing all semester
to write this paper. Every chapter I read and summary I completed, I would jot down concepts
and ideas that stuck with me. I took this class because it was a requirement for my ASL minor. I
did not realize what I was going to learn and I think that worked out well in the end.
In August, I was aware of Deaf culture. I knew the difference between little d and big D of deaf. I
had been exposed to certain aspects through my past professors like Danny Roush, who is a
CODA. This campus has a tight knit bond between the Deaf community and students. EKU has an
extremely credible ASLIE department. They have even took advantage of the Living Learning
Communities and have a Deaf floor in Walters Hall. I was exposed everything, but I was an
outsider looking in.

Butler Act Dbq
In the 1920 s, many people became familiar with religions that are known today. Religions would
follow what is so called planned for them written in the books. The Butler Act made it illegal to
teach about religions from the textbooks. This included that teachers as any school were allowed to
teach and about the science of evolution. The conflicts that the Butler Act made were between
tradition and modernity. This act was worrying parents that it would change, and make a big effect
for their children s education. These are reasons why people cared about the Butler Act. It also
questioned the simple debate between evolution and creation. John Scopes was the first to argue
about the importance of teaching science. Later on, there was a Scopes trial in Dayton,Tennessee....

it would change that way that the child knew about their own beliefs. Some people were either
against their children/students knowing about evolution, and having them know which book to
believe in. John Scopes was a biology teacher at the time. He taught from the book which
eventually, broke the law about the teaching of evolution in Tennessee. Change was an impact for a

Summary Of A Worn Path By Eudora Welty

Book Review
A Worn Path by Eudora Welty
The author, Eudora Welty was an award winning American author who wrote short stories and
novels about the American South. Her first short story appeared in 1936, and gradually she began
to e published in small, then regional and general circulation magazines. She published collections
of her short stories and began publishing novels as well. She was the first living author to have her
works published by the library of America.
A Worn Pathwritten by Eudora Weltyis an interesting short story about an elderly African
American woman walking through the woods into town, and the story is also heaving with
symbolism and several themes. First and the most obvious symbol in the story A Worn Path is
the Phoenix and Phoenix Jackson s comparison to the mythological bird, the Phoenix. Phoenix is
a mythological bird that is said to live 500 years or more than 500 years, die in flames and rise
again from the ashes. Just as the Phoenix bird has a cycle of life, death and rebirth, Phoenix
Jackson takes a dangerous journey through the woods n her life time.

Argumentative Essay On Excessive Screen Time
Lately, the issue of excessive screen time is becoming increasingly important in pediatrics, and it
has become a major risk factor for many chronic conditions such as vision impairment, obesity, and
altercations to social behavior. While many parents realize that excessive screen time is harmful,
children are still spending eight to ten hours on their electronic devices. Not many parents realize
that proper regulation is also needed to keep their child safe from health risks. According to the
National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute, 28 percent of parents set TV watching rules, 30 percent
set rules about video gameuse, and 36 percent of parents set rules about computer use ( Reduce
Screen Time, 2013). This is a problem because 60 percent of children are constantly stumbling upon
explicit content every year, and their behavior shifts more negatively and aggressively (Lunsford,
510). I believe that too much screen time can pose much harm to a child s health and well being. If
we don t find ways to limit excessive screen time than children will face many consequences that
will ultimately harm them as they grow older.
Screen time is any time spent using an electronic device such as a computer, T.V, phone, or video
game console. Many statistics have shown that an average adult spends nearly eight hours of
screen time a day while children spend eight to ten hours a day (Lunsford, 513). Comparing the two
pieces of data, children spend more time on electronics than many adults do,

College English Changes People
Writing is so much easier when you don t have a ridiculous amount of guidelines you have to
follow. With literary freedom, we are able to express ourselves more than if we have to follow a
specific set of rules for every thing we write. This is one downfall for high school English. We have
to order our papers in a specific sequence while writingabout a topic that is chosen for us. This
English composition class changed all of that. We were able to write about anything that related to
the given type of essay, which greatly improved our ability to fully immerse ourselves into every

(Wiki Economics, History.com) Health effects of the September 11, 2001 attacks were almost

Drunken Driving Case Study
When you are involved in a drunken driving case, it is indeed a huge embarrassment for you and
it results in loss of reputation as well, if you are a public figure. It is a huge dent to your
confidence and goes down as one of the lowest moments in your life. If there is one element that
can make this moment any better for you, it is the presence of a good DUI lawyer. When one is

Goodwill Internal Analysis
The internal environment of any company forms the premise or basis for internal analysis. Internal
analysis actually sees manager or business leaders basing their organization s pursuit of ...market
opportunities not only on the existence of external opportunities but also on a very sound
awareness of their firm s competitive advantages arising from the firm s internal resources,
capabilities, and skills (p.148). Hence, internal analysis sees a close look being taken at the

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nightime By Mark...
Many readers of the book The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Nightime by Mark Haddon
may conclude that the father of Christopher is in the absolute wrong for hiding and lying about his
mother s death to Christopher. The father is doing his best to take care of a special kid who does
not fully understand human emotions and feelings which creates a barrier to the outside world. As
the book progresses the father does hit Christopher, but that is a simple reaction to Christopher s
persistent pushing around. Eventhough alcohol creates some of the anger in the father, the alcohol
I think is a coping mechanism for the father to get over his wife leaving him. Christopher s father

Christopher that he killed Mrs. Shears dog. His father only killed the dog because he felt that
Mrs. Shears was going to leave them to dust when they got in a fight, that was the closest

Factors That Affect The Combined Analysis Of Sa And Iud
In this section, we present a four step methodology to quantify distinct factors that affect the
combined analysis of SA and IUD in real domains, as well as the potential benefits of this type of
analysis. Basically, the proposed methodology takes into account the domain s temporal dynamics,
the sampling sensitivity of the methods and the observed reciprocity between the collectiveopinion
and opinions propagated by opinion leaders. Through this methodology, we intend to quantify some
important issues related to combine SA and IUD. We are not assuming a closed and complete
assessment on all existing issues, which comprise promising research directions for the
area.looseness= 1
subsection{Temporal Dynamics Analysis}
A main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, we derive the collective opinion $O$ of a whole data sample $D$, using a SA method existing
in the literature. Specifically, we adopt in this work the method SACI cite{jws2015}. SACI is
relevant to our goal since it was originally proposed for estimating efficiently collective sentiment
on data samples, instead of aggregating the sentiment derived for each individual document.
Further, the authors demonstrated that SACI is more effective in estimating the collective opinion
than aggregation based SA methods. SACI represents $O$ as a distribution probability among the
sentiment classes positive, negative and neutral. Thus, we split $D$ into time units of equal size
(e.g., days, weeks, months). Then, we estimate the collective opinion $O_t$ using only the posts
belonging to each distinct time unit $t$. Finally, we perform a visual inspection on the derived
distributions. The more dynamic a domain, the more different are opinions estimated on distinct
time units.looseness= 1
In turn, we measure drifts on the subset of opinion leaders over time as follows. First, we
identify the ordered list $L$ of top k opinion leaders on $D$ by using an IUD method.
Specifically, we use the presented in cite{iccs2015}, a meta learning strategy based on PCA that
combines linearly orthogonal information exploited by distinct state of the art IUD methods. We
will call this method as PCA IUD. We chose PCA IUD since it combines

Taking a Look at Lutheranism
If you don t believe in God, you had better hope your right! All religions basically believe in one
God. Lutheranism is no exception, and as it just so happens it is very close to the Catholic religion
I practice. This paper will attempt to explain the Lutheran Church and how it came to be.
Martin Luther, a German monk, known to many as the Father of Reformation did not initially or
intentionally, start the Lutheran religion. However, his teachings became the cornerstone of what
is known today as the Lutheran Religion. Marting Luther was born in Germany in 1483, became a
monk, got ordained in 1507 then began to teach at the University of Wittenberg. Even though
Martin Luther was ordained in the Catholic Church he became torn as some ... Show more content

and deny certain aspects of what was going on in the church. Martin Luther s became very popular
and as his ideas of reform became more and more popular, the Pope threatened Luther to stop or
face excommunication. Martin did not conform and in 1521 Martin was excommunicated by the
Pope. Hence the beginning of the Lutheran Religion. In the beginning people did not initially want
to be called Lutherans they like to be referred to as Evangelicals but their opponents called them

As far as the important rituals and sacraments in the Lutheran Church, many mimic the Catholic

Persuasive Essay On Society Hacking
Have you ever had your phone or computer hacked before? I know I have, and many times it
happens without me even realizing it. In today s society hacking has become so easy that even the
most inexperienced hackers can manage to steal your private data. This is one of my main reasons
for not supporting electronic votingmachines (EVMs). I feel that in addition to the security and
integrity of the vote it also saves states on the hefty costs to obtain and routinely maintenance these
machines. EVMs also may sound good to the new generation of Iphone and Android cell phone
users, but for the older generations this technology may be extremely confusing. Paper ballots have
been the method of voting for many years and have not caused so much conflict, why try to change
a system that s effective?
I recall vivdly one of the first times I had my computer hacked, from one moment to the next it
was like my computer had a mind of it s own. Links, buttons and keys were pressed that I wasn t
doing and all the while there was a hacker somewhere trying to steal my private information. In
today s society hacking has truly evolved from these types of attacks and have made cyber
security even more important. Just this year 1 of the 3 major credit buerau s was hacked and
millions of confidential data was compromised. Just imagine how dangerous it could be to have
your private voting information exposed. I recall during a recent election one of the candidates

Nature as a Healing Force Both born in the late 1700s, Shelley and Wordsworth lived in a time of
great appreciation for the sublimity of nature. Awe inspiring natural landscapes were often
included in their works. The power of nature is recognized in The Prelude and in Frankenstein by
way of the healing qualities the natural world possesses, and how it draws us out of melancholy

The Battle of Stalingrad- A Turning Point in the Second...
The battle of Stalingrad raged from August 1942 until the German surrender on 2 February 1943.
Significantly, it was the first catastrophic defeat to befall the Wermacht Army who not only lost
the battle but were severely humiliated. Indeed, the German Army never fully recovered from this
blow to its morale. Upwards of 270,000 troops were killed and 91,000 prisoners were taken by the
Red Army; included in this latter number were 23 German Generals. Conversely, morale in the Red
Army soared as a consequence of Stalingrad giving the Russians increased strength and confidence.
This battle represented a turning point in the Second World War.

Stalin authorized the covert operation but did not interfere with the details. Part of the reason for its
success was due to this unified command. Stalin, in contrast to Hitler during this period, listened to
reasoned arguments. He surrounded himself with a small group of competent advisors, listened to
the advice of field commanders and usually accepted it. The Red Army strategically out
maneuvered and virtually annihilated the Axis force during the operation but they were also helped
by excessive German ambitions and in cohesive military strategies.
Hitler concentrated too much of his military strength on Stalingrad. The capture and destruction of
the city was of more symbolic value than strategic advantage. The military high command was in
disarray due to a combination of disagreements and dismissals. Hitler frequently interfered in
detailed operations overriding the decisions of his military commanders. This caused confusion
throughout the chain of command and resulted in a distinct lack of unity. One consequence was
the existence a long and vulnerable flank along the Don River manned by troops from Hungary,
Italy and Romania. These troops lacked motivation and were left ill equipped, making the task of
the Red Army an easier one. It is interesting to speculate that had Hitler kept out of military
planning, events may have been considerably

Napoleon Bonaparte Strengths
During the late 1700 s to mid 1800 s, the French Revolution became the spotlight of European
politics. After multiple political leaders, including the King himself, had been disposed of the
French people had grouped themselves into various political parties. France was in turmoil.
Without a solid leader to demand control of the country, the people led many revolts leading to a
national depression. Growing up during this time of instability, the popular general Napoleon
Buonaparte, knew what his country needed to come back to power. During the next couple of
decades, Napoleon spent his life building his empire by taking control militarily, politically, and
religiously. In return he became the most powerful leader of his time.

The relationship between the Catholic Church and the state deeply concerned the Emperor. He
understood that only the Catholic religion stirred the emotions of the people, could effectively
mend the religious divisions of the revolution, provide a basis for morality, and support the
authority of the new Consular regime. In 1801, Napoleon signed the Concordat with Pope Pius VII.
It recognized Catholicism as the main religion of France, but at the same time gave religious
freedom to those who were not Catholic. In many articles in the Concordat, you see where the
State has preference over the Church. In Article Six, it calls for bishops to take an oath to the
First Consul, and in Article Eight, a prayer to the Republic will be repeated at the end of divine
office. Napoleon is able to have control over the Catholic Church without committing himself or
any of his subjects to any certain religion. On December 2, 1804, Napoleon used the Concordat to
his advantage when consecrating himself the new emperor. Napoleon I s coronation did not
include the traditional sacramental rites of other imperial or royal coronations, which
meaningfully indicated a decrease in the papal role in consecrating the new emperor. This
symbolic act meant that Napoleon did not owe his crown to anyone, and that the Pope was not a
higher power than he. In the end, Napoleon created a France free of prejudice, so that the French
people could worship who they wanted

Erik Erikson s Theory Of Personality
Erik Erikson refined eight physcosocial stages that he believed humans confront throughout their
life The stages are Trust vs. Mistrust, Autonomy vs. Shame Doubt, Initiative vs. Guilt, Industry
vs. Inferiority, Identity vs. Role Confusion, Intimacy vs. Isolation, Generativity vs. Stagnation,
and Integrity vs. Despair Erikson was said to be influenced by Freud but rather than speaking on
psychosexual Stages, he explains the psychosocial stages throughout a human life which made it
completely different. His theories were influenced by Freud, going along with Freud s (1923)
theory regarding the structure and topography of personality. Freud was an id psychologist,
Erikson was an ego psychologist. Erkison discusses the psychological stages and is better known
for his life stage of human development. Erikons first stage explains Trust vs Mistrust which
usually occurs from conception to a year. This is when a infant is soley dependent on their
caregiver for all of their needs such as food, comfort, love, safety and nurturing. When the
caretaker fails to provide those needs that is when the infant may become mistrustful, frustrated,
draw away from care giver and may lack self assurance. On the other hand, caregivers who provide
the love, comfort, care, who are emotionally available, consistent within the child lives. The child

The host he indicated must remember that every guest has a gift to offer. The guests may first have
been strangers but through interaction and engaging in the lives of the stranger, they are soon
recognized as guests. The book identified three specific types of hosts: parents, teacher, and helping
professionals. The hosts now have different thoughts and feeling about their guests (Nouwen,
1986). Parents view their children as the most precious gift, teachers now realizes that their students
have great potential, and helping professional are able to provide a safe environment for their
patients (Nouwen, 1986).
The third movement is from illusion to prayer. Nouwen (1986) indicated that most people live
their lives in an illusion that they will never die. They believe that they hold the key to all that
happens in their lives. They do not put God first in their lives and they do not realize that God is
in control of every aspect of their lives. There are three essentials elements to a fulfilling prayer
life; the Bible, silence, and spiritual guide (Nouwen, 1986). Reading the Bible, and being silence
as we mediate on the word of God. We gain understanding through the power of the Holy Spirit.
These spiritual references are able to help us work through the challenges we may encounter.
The conclusion of the book mentions the importance of spiritual guidance, and the importance of
prayer. Prayer is not only to be done is solitude, but

AFL Is Crucial To Student Learning
AFL is crucial to student learning and teacher achievement due to its many benefits. When
assessments are planned and prepared with a purpose it is known to enhance learning and motivate
students, hence there are many benefits to AFL. Providing constant and timely feedback about the
teaching and learning processes to the teachers and students, helping students to become more
responsible towards their own learningand developing self reflective skills in students are just a few

Therefore teachers knowledge, skills and competencies in classroom assessment practices are very
important (Koloi Keaikitse, 2012). As teachers play a major role in student achievements and
preparing them for future, it is essential for them to understand how to assess and evaluate students
learning outcomes (Koloi Keaikitse, 2012). For this reason, Reynolds, Livingston, Willson, (2009);
McMillan, (2008); Nitko, (2001) maintain the common argument that because AFL plays a vital
role in teaching and learning related activities teachers should master basic assessment
competencies. Without this ability the type of assessment will be useless for the future learning of
the students. For example, most common type of assessment provided in the classrooms are pen
and paper tests taken at the end of a unit, the result from this is never used to improved student
learning as teachers perceive the topic as completed and done with. Vandeyar and Killen (2003)
argued that regardless of educational setting, high quality assessment practices should satisfy
essential principles such as validity, reliability, fairness, discrimination, and meaningfulness. For
Vandeyar and Killen (2003), if teachers have a clear understanding of these principles; they can
have an informed framework of using assessment results to make better informed decisions from
assessment results. When teachers misunderstand these principles, their assessment practices are
more likely to generate worthless information and this might hinder them applying various
classroom assessment strategies and form to assess and evaluate the students. Therefore in order
to be more competent and knowledgeable in AFL; teachers are in need of professional
development in order to foster effective AFL in in their classrooms. In addition, another factor that
will increase an awareness of classroom assessment

In oligopoly market, each firm has substantial market power with high degree of
interdependence. The key for success in a oligopoly market is to gain more market share than
the competitors. Increasing the price can lead to loss of market share to the competitors, so in
the oligopoly market, if a firm decreases the price, the other firms will always follow, but if a
firm increase the price, the other firms will not follow. The demand curve is kinked. However,
lowering the price decreases the overall profit of the market thus, non price competition is most
important win win strategy for all the firm. As the game, does not allow us to make product
differentiation, the other method that can increase the sales are advertising, product development
and E commerce enhancement. If these expenditures are below market average level, the firm can
lose the market share. 4Besides, decreasing the production cost is also important as the firm can
then lower the price. So the decisions related to change in plant size, process improvement and the
training are also important. Strategies of our firm In oligopoly market, one important method to
increase the market share is to keep the price lower than competitors price. However, because at the
beginning of the game, our firm ignored the importance of the plant size, process improvement and
the training, our production cost was higher than other firms. So we could not use the

Renaissance And Artemisia Gentileschi ( Baroque )
Lane Sofonisba Anguissola (Renaissance) and Artemisia Gentileschi(Baroque) The renaissance
began in Italy from the 14th to the 16th century, and was followed by the baroque period which
roughly was between 16th to 17th century, each revolutionized the period prior. This is perfectly
represented by two very different and yet very similar artists: Sofonisba Anguissola and Artemisia
Gentileschi. Though one more so paved the way for the other, there connection appears to have
nearly materialized out of thin air, and begs the age old psychological question of nature Vs. nurture.
Anguissola started life in Cremona, Italy in about 1532, during the renaissance period. She would
go on to dazzle all those before her with her virtuousness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is similar to Gentileschi, who moved to a variety of places such as London, Florence, Venice,
and Naples. I suspect that the two mutually wanted to escape and pursue brighter futures while
developing their already noteworthy talents. Another interesting commonality between the two is
that Anguissola s mother died when she was around 4 or 5. Similarly, Gentileschi lost her mother
at a young age, when she was around 12 years old. Gentileschi must have struggled more as a
result than her fortunate predecessor, as she was not from prestigious family. Her father was a
fairly well known artist who worshipped Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio s style, especially his use
of tenebrism. This adoration was imparted to his daughter Artemisia, who often copied this style.
Intriguingly, there is a bizarre connection even in this. There is some rumor that a drawing that
Anguissola had sent to the famed artist Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (the more
famous one), had ended up in a notebook belonging to Giorgio Vasari, and is suspected to have
been discovered by Caravaggio, which later inspired his painting Boy Bitten by a Lizard . There is
a clear connection through time between these two women. Yet, in a way seems to have been
founded through pure chance and phenomenon. As hard as it is to believe, this is not the only
person who intertwines these women together. Anthony Van Dyke visited Anguissola when she was
very old, and blind, but spent hours

Why I Should Be Safe From The Giant Mice
At last the walking was over. The Sfrums and I stopped like a backwards wave, where they start
with there hands up then put there hands down when it comes to them. A day and a half of
walking from behind the wall to the rug was finally over. And at that stop, I saw a whole new
beginning.
Connor, welcome to your new home! My mom said cheerfully, You should be safe from the giant
mice
I had a bad feeling about this dark new town of ours, this new town we named Rug had darkness to
it. Maybe this change wouldn t be good after all. Or, it could be a great place to live.
The town was very peaceful with little pre built houses and a town hall. Every building was made
out of little pieces of wood that matched the dark polished brown wood ... Show more content on

A criminal started stealing family s possessions from their new homes and keeping it for him or
herself. The adult Sfrums all came together in the town hall shack about this issue but they
couldn t agree. Some were for a police force and others said our town was too small. Others said to
have only a few guys and be like a town watch.
It was a boring few hours while I was sitting at the steps with the other children in the town. We all
get along well but haven t talked to them since the move. Things have been tiring and this is only
our first day here. Finally the arguing was over and the new wooden doors creaked open with
parents and adults spilling out. Some frustrated, others satisfied.
Lets go Connor My dad said in a bitter tone. We re out of here.
We left the town hall and went back to our little house. Each adult finding their child and walking
back to their little home, which was on the same street as everyone else s shack. My Parents and I
were both walking in the same place, but Mom and Dad were keeping their distance.
Why are you to angry? I asked. Really confused about what was going on between the two as we
walked along the walkway to the houses. Is it about what happened in the town hall?
My dad looked at my mom first then to me. Suddenly, he started to shout, I could care less about
what everyone else thought in there. What I m angry about is how you mother didn t take my side!

Comprehending The San Francisco Earthquake Of 1906
Stay away from negative people. They have a problem for every solution. Albert Einstein. This
quote is telling us that we should be positive, even in rough times. The San Francisco earthquake of
1906 was one of the most significant earthquakes in U.S. history. It happened at almost precisely
5:12 a.m. on April 18, 1906. The earthquakestarted about twenty seconds after 5:12, causing the
first tremor to shake the earth for about 60 seconds. More tremors came afterwards, starting to
break down the city bit by bit. The gas pipes broke, the buildings crumbled, and the streets cracked.
Most of the tremors lasted 45 60 seconds. In the two eyewitness accounts about the earthquake,

This piece of evidence is from the account Horrific Wreck of the City and is showing the POV
that the earthquake brings out the worst in people. Terror marked their faces, and yet their voices
indicated a certain enjoyment that maniacs have when they kill and gloat over their prey.
Hysterical women cried and raved for those they loved when they were standing right next to them.
page. 2 (para. 6)
Conversely, in the eyewitness account Comprehending the Calamity , the point of view is that the
earthquake brings out the best in people. I saw a mother and daughter sitting in the next nook,
into which four doors from flats opened. They were weary, and the girl almost fainting.
Everything they had was burned, and they had had nothing to eat all day, I told them they could
go up in our flat and sleep. I went upstairs and found two old comforters, and made them a bed. I

Essay on The Decision to Become a Suicide Bomber
Although journalist Dexter Filkins has spent years covering the war in Iraq, he still appears
unsure as to what exactly motivates a suicide bomber to embrace jihad. Citing a specific
example in his book, The Forever War, Filkins poses the question, The most intriguing part of Ra
ad s story was unknowable. How did an English speaking, American loving, hair gel wearing
lawyer who d walked among the bikinis of Santa Monica come to blow himself up in Iraq? (177).
While this particular quandary may appear unknowable to Filkins, the motivation behind suicide
bombers actions may be more obvious than he thinks. It is no secret that American culture differs
immensely from that of the Islamic way of life, as both groups have great difficulty... Show more

Could it be this bitterness towards American culture that motivates a suicide bomber to fulfill his
jihadist destiny? Although Qutb certainly was open about his dislike of America, it seems far more
likely that modern jihadists have an ulterior motive that involves America s foreign policy rather
than its culture. An interesting revelation is made concerning jihadist motivation by John Farmer
in his book, The Ground Truth. Farmer notes that Osama bin Laden s initial concerns were focused
in the Middle East. The continual involvement by the United States in Middle Eastern affairs is
what seems to have put him over the edge. Farmer quotes a specific interview given by bin Laden
that clearly outlines the source of his hatred, America continues to claim that it is upholding the
banner of freedom and humanity... while these deeds that they did [the dropping of the atomic
bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the imposition of sanctions on Iraq], you would not find that
even the most ravenous of animals would descend to (15 16). Sharing bin Laden s sentiment is his
counterpart Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who actually lived in America at one point. Interestingly,
his time spent in America doesn t seem to be the driving factor behind his feelings. Farmer, quoting
the 9/11 Commission, writes, KSM s animus toward the United States stemmed not from his
experiences there as a student, but rather from his violent

Persuasive Essay On Black Hate
In the same way, the Spelman College administration, faculty, and students that disregard the West
End community that surrounds the college only contribute to the erosion of our community and
our people. Although this is not a language of hate, it is a clear display of indifference which
communicates the same thing. Choosing to disregard the homeless, pay little attention to the
gentrification that is rampantly kicking our people out of our community, or ignore ways to provide
opportunities or exposure to the high school students in our own back yard; are we truly
activating black love as political resistance or are we ignoring the needs of the people that are
around us every day? We need to realize that there are two vehicles that drive the future of the
black community: one of black love and one of black hate. Realize that, although society drives
black hate we can be passengers in that car. We can disagree and reject their ideology, all the
while internalizing it. Even though we are not driving, our inability to articulate black love as
fluently as we articulate black hate, allows black hate to trump black love. Therefore, in our lives,
in our homes, in our communities, and on our HBCU campuses the darkness and degradation of
blackness thrives by separating us from our own people and making it seem normal to demean
ourselves, our race, and our people. Is this behavior not subtly mimicking those of the oppressor?

a legend was born. This camp was named Long Lake, after the lake upon which it resides, and it
would experience its fair share of storms and turmoil over the ensuing years. Some of its visitors
only ever viewed it as a mosquito infested swamp while others would go on to call it their second
home. To me however, I have always had a love hate relationship with its wooded trails and
murky waters, yet I shall always cherish my memories of it in my heart. Regardless, Camp Long

Birth Control Is The Practice Of Preventing Unwanted...
Imagine you ran out of your favorite toothpaste but instead of just running to the nearest drug store
you have to call your doctor s office, set an appointment, receive a prescription then go to the
pharmacy to have it filled just to get a new tube of toothpaste. Obviously people do not have to go
through this process just to get toothpaste but they do in fact have to go through this process to
obtain birth controlpills. According to merriam webster.com, birth control is the practice of
preventing unwanted pregnancies; it used all around the world. There are many different
contraceptive types that people use to prevent unwanted pregnancies, including, but not limited
to, condoms, vaginal rings, sponges, implants, shots, abstinence, and birth control pills.
Practicing safe sex should be ready option for all people. Men wear condoms while women take
birth control; it is as simple as that. However, why is it that anyone can buy condoms, but in
order for a woman to get birth control, she must have a prescription? This paper will explain the
health benefits of birth control, discuss the consequences of not having direct access to the pill,
and the effects of making birth control more accessible. Over the counter access to the pill could
be a game changer for public health, eliminating an unnecessary barrier to a highly effective form
of birth control. The benefits of providing birth control pills over the counter far outweigh the risks
and as a society we should be strong

Understanding The Concepts Of Development
Introduction Understanding the concepts of development allows clinicians to relate to children and
adolescents on individual developmental levels. Dental visits can have a negative impact on most
youths in society that can stem into adulthood. Dental clinicians must focus on providing young
patients with a positive experience in the presence of a dental clinic. This report will discuss the
communication skills involved to carry out a positive first visit and successful treatment
appointments on a young child. Strategies will be utilized and discussed to establish trust and
rapport and behaviour modification amongst adolescents. Management of a young patient aged five
Children have several development factors such as physical, social, intellect and personality.
Clinicians must consider these factors when interacting with children as children are not of age to
consent to dental treatment. Understanding development is valuable in management strategies
suitable for the individual and informing parent of procedures as well as the child. Strategies aim
to alleviate fear and anxiety to create a sense of comfort. Trust is gained through forming a
professional relationship between clinician and child so the experience to the dentist is perceived
as enjoyable and exciting. Certain steps are appropriate for an initial visit. In general, the pace of a
first appointment is much slower. The emphasis is on educating the child, promoting comfort, and
allowing the visit to be exciting and

The Stuffed Winnie The Pooh Bear Analysis
Growing up, I owned a stuffed Winnie the Pooh bear. I loved the show, and loved Pooh even
more. On Sundays, I would dress my Pooh bear in my sister and I s doll clothes and bring it with
me to church. One Sunday, an older kid at Sunday School mocked my Winnie the Pooh bear,
because Pooh is a boy but I made mine wear a dress. At the young age of 5, I didn t understand
why Pooh couldn t be a girl to me, even though the character from the television show was a boy.
I left Sunday School that day sad and confused. I always thought of Pooh as a girl, and it crushed
me to find out different. I decided I would change my favorite character to a girl character, get a
new stuffed animal, and let her wear dresses to church to avoid getting mocked. However,... Show

that children could try and monitor their own television usage, or that parents could monitor it

NASA Budget Analysis
Using the NASA budget provided and my job of using the best materials and keeping the

include a parachute of 100 m. This includes having a surface area large enough that it can
produce air friction. A safety cage of a cubic capsule in where the egg has four surfaced sides in
which it can land on. Also , includes a crumple zone that has rigid lander legs .This will give a
medium rigidity where it can withstand the impact of the forceacting against it but doesn t stay
rigid in where the legs cannot be used as a crumple zone . This design can offer a safe landing on

The safety has to have a capsule that keeps everything secure inside it safe in the time of impact.
This is the reason on to why I chose a cubic capsule because, I know that in the area inside there
would be an even amount of space and have an equal amount of space , not only that but as the
space lander lands it will be easier for the object to land with the parachute with a shape that has
even surfaces on four sides in case if it lands on either sides of the surfaces .The object that I
chose to use for the safety capsule is the aluminum alloy . I chose this material because not only
was the weight low but also the cost was at a medium . Although, we know that the tensile strength
is only at 300 we know that if more air friction is added to the space lander it is going to have less
force applied to it as the falling is happening meaning the strength of the tensile is okay to not be
too rigid . The price of the material is also at a very cheap price we know that NASA is to cut
cost , mass , and risk This is matching characteristics and with the low cost of the other products
included in the space lander having a medium cost is not going to have a large effect on the total

Taking a Look at Garden Cities
Garden cities, whether the appropriate concept in sustainable urban planning?
Introduction
It is widely acknowledged that Ebenezer Howard s Garden City stimulated many significant urban
design achievements in worldwide. Whether the theory is still suitable for sustainable urban
planning in twenty one century has been widely discussed. Some approvers argue that Howard
provided the idea of self sufficiency and limited growths still remain. However, the theory has been
denounced because it is too idealistic, difficult to implement. Therefore, this paper will first review
the original concept of Garden city, then examine legacy of the Garden Cities whether they have
proved to be successful, sustainable places. The paper is divided into three parts. In the first
section, the concept of Garden city will be first explained. In the second part, the discussion of
Garden city concept will be presented. Then, case study on modern garden city will be described at
last. The study shows, the ideas of Garden City have been widely misinterpreted, leading potential
risks on environment. In addition, to some extent, the morphological model of Garden city is not
appropriate any more due to vehicles dependency and new communication modes changed the
planning concept.
The concept of Garden City
In Garden Cities of To morrow, Howard (1902) provided a detailed discussion for new social and
city reform. The overall goal for Howard is to combine the traditional countryside with the

  • 2. Comprimination Of Security Systems And Intrusion Detection... The correct configuration of security technologies is mandatory to balance the need for access and safety of information (Cavusoglu Raghunathan, 2009). Many companies use the layered approach to ensure protection of their network information system (Cavusoglu Raghunathan, 2009). By using this approach, many securitytechnologies rely on each other to operate effectively (Cavusoglu Raghunathan, 2009). Three technologies commonly used together are Intrusion Detection Systems, Intrusion Prevention Systems, and firewalls. When configured properly, these technologies complement each other (Cavusoglu Raghunathan, 2009). Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are mainly intended to safeguard the availability, confidentiality, and integrity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main function of the IPS is to prevent an intrusion (Intrusion Prevention System: First Line of Defense, 2012). An example of an IPS is the Cisco Intrusion Prevention System (SC magazine, 2010). It safeguards the total network with a variety of deployment options (SC magazine, 2010). This IPS is inline and networked based designed to categorize and prohibit familiar and unfamiliar threats to a network (SC magazine, 2010). Cisco IPS is the only IPS that is supported by Cisco Security Intelligence Operations (SC magazine, 2010). It is also the only IPS that includes risk rating and global correlation capabilities (SC magazine, 2010). Many times, the terms IPS and IDS are confusing, but an IPS is an extension of an IDS (Intrusion Prevention System: First Line of Defense, 2012). The two together is known as an Intrusion Detection Prevention System (IDPS). The duo adds another line of protection behind firewalls (Weaver, Weaver, Farwood, 2012). Common features between the two are monitoring traffic, system activity observation, and creating logs (Intrusion Prevention System: First Line of Defense, 2012). The main difference between the two is the IPS s ability to prevent/block any attempt of intrusion (Intrusion Prevention System: First Line of Defense, 2012). They work together to identify signs of an attack, transmit alerts, and respond to the event (Weaver, Weaver, Farwood, 2012). Components of the IDS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Buddhist Teachings In Canada Buddhist teachings and tradition strongly emphasize the ideas of virtue, kindness and compassion. These ideals are at the core of Buddhist tradition and they exemplify right ways of living in relation to building a better future and after life. Buddhist teachings can also offer us a lot of insight into the current Refugee Crisis, and provide us with salient understandings and conceptions of how to directly deal with the influx of refugees from a moral and virtuous center. In regards to the responses that both Canada and the USA have taken, Buddhist teachings can shed light onto how these approaches are both good and bad, in their own respects. Buddhist teachings can help remedy this by ensuring the humanitarian needs are put first, and that compassion and kindness address these situations rather than fear and violence. This is made clear by understanding how Canada and the USA have taken different approaches to the crisis, one mirroring more Buddhist ideals, and one not. It is also clear that Buddhist teachings are practical in society and they can thrive and provide new levels of analysis to multicultural societies such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Diversity Is Becoming More And More Important As Years Go The concept of diversity is becoming more and more important as years go by. This concept is not as easy as it may appear; diversity is not just about acceptance and respect. Understanding what diversity is means understanding that each person is unique; it means understanding and recognising our differences; moreover, moving beyond differences of gender, race, age, religious beliefs and political beliefs. Understanding and managing diversityis trying to make sure that all those differences fit together like pieces of a mosaic. The concept is extremely important in today s society, following everything that has been happening related to this matter. We consider ourselves a tolerant and evolved society; yet we still hear of people of colour discriminated and killed everyday, we still hear of women living in horrible conditions, deprived of their dignity and sold as slaves. It appears obvious so, that diversity has to be taken into consideration when we talk about organisations. Everything that is happening in the world is reflected into firms too; organizations are, in fact, part of a wider social system. That is why managing diversity is possibly one of the hardest challenges that managers have to face in today s world. This essay is going to examine the concept of diversity in organisations today, why we have to consider it important and what kinds of advantages companies receive. Moreover, the essay will focus on gender diversity showing that even a lot of efforts still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Human Resource Management in Business Context Performance bonuses offer a win win gain to both organisations and employees. Discuss, making reference to both theory and case examples Introduction Is performance related pay (PRP) really a motivator for employees and is it an effective way for organisations to gain and retain high performing staff. This is questionable especially as organisations differ in size, organisational culture (therefore differing needs), the ability and/or resources to manage an effective process to support PRP. This study will explore whether performance bonuses offer a win win for both the organisation and the employees, using primarily the public sector, with reference to the private sector. PRP was the big idea of the1980s, embraced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Intangible services are much harder to quantify. Performance Management Cycle Key performance indicators (KPIs) are formed as part of the performance and appraisal process to measure the output of an individual. The performance appraisal allows a comparison to be made of the actual performance against expected performance (KPIs), which is linked to feedback and whether the individual has warranted a reward. However, there are many potential problems with the performance appraisal system. The process can become a bureaucratic process with managers seeing it as a tick box exercise to be completed once a year. There could be a lack of understanding of the objectives by the employee, or the organisation may not have a clear strategy and furthermore the process is subjective and open to human bias. It is also very difficult to quantify individual performance such as intangible elements, as mentioned earlier. So it could be argued that the process is not very transparent. To overcome this, Beer et al. introduced the Harvard Model (Gilmore. S, 2009, p.9) which takes into account a wider range of stakeholders interests to provide an input into the appraisal process which allows the reduction of a bias opinion of just one person. It is stated as reduction, as the process is still subjective and open to a range of perceptual errors although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Henry Viii Influence Literature has become the most important factor in the construction of the English monarchy. It has become the way in which people communicate and share their ideas throughout the world. English literature is the essential piece in ruling a country and determining the future for that country. In England, English literature has evolved through a number of versions due to the changes made to the policies and laws, religion, culture, and the monarchy. Henry VIII was born on June 28, 1491 by Elizabeth of York and Henry VII at Greenwich Palace (BBC News). In his early age, he was very interested in the arts and enjoyed reading literature. In 1509, Henry VIII succeeded his father Henry VII (1457 1509), but had originally become heir to the throne after his older brother, Prince Arthur, died in 1502 (Henry VIII (r.1509 1547)). He reigned during the House of Tudor monarchy when he was only eighteen years old until he died in 1547, having Edward VI succeed him. Throughout his years of reign, he married six women including: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. In 1527, Henry divorced Catherine of Aragon, since she could no longer conceive children, and became infatuated with Anne Boleyn (Henry s Divorce). This decision led to the English Protestant Reformation which were a series of events...[in] which the Church of England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church (English Reformation). ... • 8. The Cult Of Personality The song starts with an introduction from a male voice, speaking as though he were not from earth. The sound of the electric guitar explodes into your ears, introducing the piece as a rock song. This was quickly followed by the sound of heavy, but simple beat that would continue throughout the song. The singer grabs your attention with a demand that the listener look into his eyes. The verses that follow are simple and sung clearly, I can easily imagine a large crowd singing along to it as though it were their anthem. The entire song has a rhythmic energy running through it, making it the kind of song a person would want to dance to. The guitarsolo is a break from the steady beat that permeates the song, with its high pitched electronic sound. As the song continues, the beat becomes faster, the guitar more frenzied and the singer repeating the statement, I am the cult of personality , till a different male voice closes the song.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is made clear in the title of the song, Cult of personality, which refers to a person who uses the media available to them to create an idealized image of themselves as the hero of a population. The singer mentions the names of four great leaders; namely Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, John F. Kennedy and Mahatma Ghandi. The juxtaposition of Mussolini and Joseph Stalin s names with John F. Kennedy and Mahatma Ghandi s names shows that The Cult of Personality can be used by all types of people. It is a phenomena that can be used to gain support for good or bad intentions. The singer asserts that any leader who goes against the agenda of their time and place is a dead leader, when he sings, when a leader speaks that leader dies . • 9. Toy Safety Standards And Regulations The toy industry is consistently growing and expanding within the United States. In 2015, the toy industry grew 7% in domestic sales from 2014, with a net worth of $19.48 billion. Demand for toys is vastly seasonal with nearly 70% of toy sales taking place before, during, and just after the Christmas season. Because of this, it is important for those within the toyindustry to predict demand during peak season in order to avoid heavy markdowns after the holidays. Legos largest competitors are Mattel and Hasbro. However, with Lego s net income as a percentage of sales at an impressive 24%, they greatly surpass Mattel and Hasbro with net income coming in at 14% and 7%, respectively. Because the toy industry makes use of assembly lines, machines, and manual labor; it is considered a manufacturing, or secondary, industry. The United States has some of the strictest toy safety standards and regulations in the world. Any toy intended for use by children age 12 and under must be third party tested and certified with a Children s Product Certificate (CPSC). However, not every section of the Children s Product Certificate may apply to any given toy. The document is lengthy with a multitude of provisions. Each provision may not necessarily may to any given toy. For example, toys that don t make and noise would not need to adhere to sound provisions. Although certain sections may be exempt, each applicable provision much be in compliance with the toy safety standard. The toy industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of Edward Abbey s Desert Solitaire Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey begins in the area surrounding Moab, Utah. He discusses his intense love and adoration for the land. This theme of laying out the land for the reader continues from Chapters 1 5. It is apparent the Abbey adores nature in its purest form. Abbey rarely has visitors of the human kind, he is more often visited by snakes, deer, birds, and other wildlife than the parks superintendent, the chief park ranger, and a few tourists here and there. Abbey finds himself a little lonely from time to time in the beginning of the book but by Chapter 3: The Serpents of Paradise he finds a friend. He first encounters a not so friendly creature, a faded midget, a poisonous rattlesnake lying underneath his doorstep. Abbey often finds himself talking to the animals in this book, so he decides to issue the snakea warning and remove it. When it comes back to the trailer a second time, Abbey keeps his promise and kills the snake. Eventually, he finds another snake, which he recognizes is an enemy to the rattlesnake, and he sets out to domesticate it. Abbey decides to take it on excursions with him, wrapping the snake around his waist underneath his shirt. Eventually, the snake was released and never returned. In Chapter 4, Abbey focuses more on the plants in the region, citing his favorite wildflower, the cliffrose, and going over his weekly schedules. His busiest days are the weekends when campers come, after he cleans, makes his rounds, takes a couple days off, restocks supplies, and then starts all over again. Chapter 5, is when things start to get heavy. It is at this point Abbey starts revealing how truly frustrated he is with the US government and the tourists. Abbey is fiercely protective of the park and soon discovers that roads will be paved in the park to increase tourism. He is horrified at the aspect of a new road because he sees automobiles as an enemy to the National Park industry. To Abbey, cars limit tourists from actually see the land, stating that a short distance on bike or foot is much more appreciated than a very long distance in a car. He also suggests a new plan for national parks in order to preserve their authenticity. Abbey thinks that tourists should travel to the campsites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Grey s Anatomy Clinical Trial Participation Clinical Trial Participation In the popular television drama, Grey s Anatomy, the main stars conducted a series of clinical trials that introduced Seattle into a new form of research. After their trial called the Shepard Method grew into a success, the program s audience became aware of clinical trials in reality. In the previous years, clinical trials have evolved and made a big impact on society. However, there is controversy about whether or not one should take part in clinical trials. People should participate in clinical trials because they are safe, a way to earn money, a positive impact on the medical field, easy to perform in, and highly successful. A clinical trial is similar to a research study that is conducted for many reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, this is proven wrong because many studies do not consist of any long or hard tasks. According to the National Library of Medicine, a majority of trials require minimal amounts of time and effort ( Clinical Research ). One example of a research procedure is shown by Bridge, right handed males aged 18 to 40 take part in a trial on the pain killing effects of Botox, which involves two outpatient visits. This case presents the low complexity of a trial; in this circumstance only two visits are needed. Also, the only qualifications needed to participate in this case include: being a middle aged, right handed male. A survey shows that studies are simple to take part in because the most common discomfort is a headache from caffeine withdrawal (Bridge). Bridge clarifies that studies do not involve many extreme responsibilities to be performed from the participant because the hardest task is to avoid drinking caffeine. A main reason for a trial to run smoothly and efficiently, without causing the patient to complete tough labor is due to the health professionals. The article titled Putting Yourself On Trial justifies, hard work is carried out by our professional medical team, which leaves you free to relax and enjoy the facilities (Bridge). • 12. Status Quo, From High School Musical When you first referred to this assignment, I immediately thought about the song called Status Quo from High School Musical. This was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager. The song plays in the movie while Gabrielle s friends are telling her that if she dates Troy, the popular basketball player, it will mess us the status quo. In a cute dance number they break out in song in the cafeteria singing. From watching that movie, I already had an understanding of what I needed to reflect on. I am a very organized person. At the beginning of the semester, I read through the syllabus. I knew that we would have a reflection paper on the course, so I have been preparing all semester to write this paper. Every chapter I read and summary I completed, I would jot down concepts and ideas that stuck with me. I took this class because it was a requirement for my ASL minor. I did not realize what I was going to learn and I think that worked out well in the end. In August, I was aware of Deaf culture. I knew the difference between little d and big D of deaf. I had been exposed to certain aspects through my past professors like Danny Roush, who is a CODA. This campus has a tight knit bond between the Deaf community and students. EKU has an extremely credible ASLIE department. They have even took advantage of the Living Learning Communities and have a Deaf floor in Walters Hall. • 13. Butler Act Dbq In the 1920 s, many people became familiar with religions that are known today. Religions would follow what is so called planned for them written in the books. The Butler Act made it illegal to teach about religions from the textbooks. This included that teachers as any school were allowed to teach and about the science of evolution. The conflicts that the Butler Act made were between tradition and modernity. This act was worrying parents that it would change, and make a big effect for their children s education. These are reasons why people cared about the Butler Act. It also questioned the simple debate between evolution and creation. He taught from the book which eventually, broke the law about the teaching of evolution in Tennessee. Change was an impact for a student s educational environment, especially in the studies of children. Summary Of A Worn Path By Eudora Welty 2011080257 е°№зЏ и‹± Book Review A Worn Path by Eudora Welty The author, Eudora Welty was an award winning American author who wrote short stories and novels about the American South. Her first short story appeared in 1936, and gradually she began to e published in small, then regional and general circulation magazines. She published collections of her short stories and began publishing novels as well. She was the first living author to have her works published by the library of America. A Worn Pathwritten by Eudora Weltyis an interesting short story about an elderly African American woman walking through the woods into town, and the story is also heaving with symbolism and several themes. First and the most obvious symbol in the story A Worn Path is the Phoenix and Phoenix Jackson s comparison to the mythological bird, the Phoenix. Phoenix is a mythological bird that is said to live 500 years or more than 500 years, die in flames and rise again from the ashes. Just as the Phoenix bird has a cycle of life, death and rebirth, Phoenix Jackson takes a dangerous journey through the woods n her life time. Phoenix Jackson is an old, old woman. • 15. Argumentative Essay On Excessive Screen Time Lately, the issue of excessive screen time is becoming increasingly important in pediatrics, and it has become a major risk factor for many chronic conditions such as vision impairment, obesity, and altercations to social behavior. While many parents realize that excessive screen time is harmful, children are still spending eight to ten hours on their electronic devices. Not many parents realize that proper regulation is also needed to keep their child safe from health risks. According to the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute, 28 percent of parents set TV watching rules, 30 percent set rules about video gameuse, and 36 percent of parents set rules about computer use ( Reduce Screen Time, 2013). This is a problem because 60 percent of children are constantly stumbling upon explicit content every year, and their behavior shifts more negatively and aggressively (Lunsford, 510). I believe that too much screen time can pose much harm to a child s health and well being. If we don t find ways to limit excessive screen time than children will face many consequences that will ultimately harm them as they grow older. Screen time is any time spent using an electronic device such as a computer, T.V, phone, or video game console. Many statistics have shown that an average adult spends nearly eight hours of screen time a day while children spend eight to ten hours a day (Lunsford, 513). Basically, the proposed methodology takes into account the domain s temporal dynamics, the sampling sensitivity of the methods and the observed reciprocity between the collectiveopinion and opinions propagated by opinion leaders. Through this methodology, we intend to quantify some important issues related to combine SA and IUD. We are not assuming a closed and complete assessment on all existing issues, which comprise promising research directions for the area.looseness= 1 subsection{Temporal Dynamics Analysis} A main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, we derive the collective opinion $O$ of a whole data sample $D$, using a SA method existing in the literature. Specifically, we adopt in this work the method SACI cite{jws2015}. SACI is relevant to our goal since it was originally proposed for estimating efficiently collective sentiment on data samples, instead of aggregating the sentiment derived for each individual document. Further, the authors demonstrated that SACI is more effective in estimating the collective opinion than aggregation based SA methods. SACI represents $O$ as a distribution probability among the sentiment classes positive, negative and neutral. Thus, we split $D$ into time units of equal size (e.g., days, weeks, months). Then, we estimate the collective opinion $O_t$ using only the posts belonging to each distinct time unit $t$. Finally, we perform a visual inspection on the derived distributions. The more dynamic a domain, the more different are opinions estimated on distinct time units.looseness= 1 In turn, we measure drifts on the subset of opinion leaders over time as follows. First, we identify the ordered list $L$ of top k opinion leaders on $D$ by using an IUD method. The guests may first have been strangers but through interaction and engaging in the lives of the stranger, they are soon recognized as guests. The book identified three specific types of hosts: parents, teacher, and helping professionals. The hosts now have different thoughts and feeling about their guests (Nouwen, 1986). This would integrate land use planning and water management in Ontario and foster a new kind of relationship between provincial and local decision making. The ensuing discussion of some of the problems this might pose (for example, questions of vertical primacy between provincial and municipal plans and policies, or of horizontal primacy between the requirements of different government departments at the provincial level) have a familiar ring to land use planners and lawyers, and one anticipates that their experience will facilitate the development of a decentralized water planning system. When assessments are planned and prepared with a purpose it is known to enhance learning and motivate students, hence there are many benefits to AFL. Providing constant and timely feedback about the teaching and learning processes to the teachers and students, helping students to become more responsible towards their own learningand developing self reflective skills in students are just a few benefits (Center for Teaching, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore teachers knowledge, skills and competencies in classroom assessment practices are very important (Koloi Keaikitse, 2012). As teachers play a major role in student achievements and preparing them for future, it is essential for them to understand how to assess and evaluate students learning outcomes (Koloi Keaikitse, 2012). For this reason, Reynolds, Livingston, Willson, (2009); McMillan, (2008); Nitko, (2001) maintain the common argument that because AFL plays a vital role in teaching and learning related activities teachers should master basic assessment competencies. Without this ability the type of assessment will be useless for the future learning of the students. For example, most common type of assessment provided in the classrooms are pen and paper tests taken at the end of a unit, the result from this is never used to improved student learning as teachers perceive the topic as completed and done with. Vandeyar and Killen (2003) argued that regardless of educational setting, high quality assessment practices should satisfy essential principles such as validity, reliability, fairness, discrimination, and meaningfulness. For Vandeyar and Killen (2003), if teachers have a clear understanding of these principles; they can have an informed framework of using assessment results to make better informed decisions from assessment results. When teachers misunderstand these principles, their assessment practices are more likely to generate worthless information and this might hinder them applying various classroom assessment strategies and form to assess and evaluate the students. Therefore in order to be more competent and knowledgeable in AFL; teachers are in need of professional development in order to foster effective AFL in in their classrooms. Another interesting commonality between the two is that Anguissola s mother died when she was around 4 or 5. Similarly, Gentileschi lost her mother at a young age, when she was around 12 years old. Gentileschi must have struggled more as a result than her fortunate predecessor, as she was not from prestigious family. This adoration was imparted to his daughter Artemisia, who often copied this style. Intriguingly, there is a bizarre connection even in this. There is some rumor that a drawing that Anguissola had sent to the famed artist Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (the more famous one), had ended up in a notebook belonging to Giorgio Vasari, and is suspected to have been discovered by Caravaggio, which later inspired his painting Boy Bitten by a Lizard . Although Qutb certainly was open about his dislike of America, it seems far more likely that modern jihadists have an ulterior motive that involves America s foreign policy rather than its culture. An interesting revelation is made concerning jihadist motivation by John Farmer in his book, The Ground Truth. Farmer notes that Osama bin Laden s initial concerns were focused in the Middle East. The continual involvement by the United States in Middle Eastern affairs is what seems to have put him over the edge. Choosing to disregard the homeless, pay little attention to the gentrification that is rampantly kicking our people out of our community, or ignore ways to provide opportunities or exposure to the high school students in our own back yard; are we truly activating black love as political resistance or are we ignoring the needs of the people that are around us every day? We need to realize that there are two vehicles that drive the future of the black community: one of black love and one of black hate. Realize that, although society drives black hate we can be passengers in that car. We can disagree and reject their ideology, all the while internalizing it. Even though we are not driving, our inability to articulate black love as fluently as we articulate black hate, allows black hate to trump black love. Therefore, in our lives, in our homes, in our communities, and on our HBCU campuses the darkness and degradation of blackness thrives by separating us from our own people and making it seem normal to demean ourselves, our race, and our people.
