Essay about Lockheed Martin Organizational Environment
Organizational Culture and Environment
As one of the only major defense contractors, one would think that Lockheed Martin has a different
organizational culture and environment than most companies, but in reality they run like any company
would but in a unique industry. They specialize in four different business segments including
Aeronautics, Space Systems, Electronic Systems, and Integrated Systems and Global Solutions. Their
vision statement says, Powered by Innovation, Guided by Integrity, We Help Our Customers Achieve
Their Most Challenging Goals . (Lockheed Martin, 1) This company works toward maintaining their
lead in global security through innovative research and development.

They must be able to quickly respond to any threats to our nation s security. They are firmly on the
defense and government side of aeronautics. Considering that 85% of their sales derive from the
United States Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin is directly affected by the government s
military spending cuts. (Hoovers, 1) So, this company thrives off of the government s budget and
specific needs. Lockheed Martin s 2007 revenue was $41.9 billion which shows that the current
economic situation has not affected them that much which is probably because their products and
supplies are being used in the war in Iraq. Their products are in high demand here in the United States
and around the world due to recent terrorism and turmoil. One good thing about working closely with
the government is that job stability is not a problem. Lockheed Martin rarely lays off employees and
can supply them with good benefits. However, other factors affect the way that the company runs such
as its focus on the environment and going green . Lockheed is creating programs that will help make
their products more environmentally friendly. Considering 90% of Lockheed s greenhouse gas
emissions derive from energy use, they created an energy program which operates with the
Environmental, Safety and Health organization. This energy management program tracks the
corporation s usages and costs so that it can monitor energy efficiency

Culture Jamming Research Paper
In 1993, citizens still cursed out the web World Wide Web and afterward accommodatingly shortened
it (W.W.W.) for newcomers. A considerable amount has changed since that year, when it started to first

communications had as of now been searching for approaches to talk back to government officials,
organizations and others. Access to work area best distributing and picture altering, and in addition the

IV. Global management: enforcing and reinforcing a transnational
Sticking to the French example, one can say that the management practices implemented by
Allianz try to go beyond the classical HQ subsidiaries tensions. This willingness (in words, if
not in deeds) to overcome such antagonisms is illustrated below:
Cross border group mobility:

The Allianz Worldwide Partners (AWP) project:
o Senior management: two current members of Allianz France s ExCo are
German but only one of them was sent by HQ (i.e., previously worked there).
Conversely, the head of Group Internal Audit is a Frenchman who did most of
its career in France since the AGF era.
o Middle management: the assignment to Group HQ of well educated

Analysis Of The Phantom Of The Opera
This movie is one I ve came back to often, the acting, music, scenery, and the story itself is what
brought me back. I liked how every actor in this film not only fit their role, but also made it
believable. If they were to recast the actors today, I don t think they could find better actors to fit the
roles. Some of the roles in this are Viscount de Chagny Raoul played by Patrick Wilson, Christine
Daaé played by Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera Opera Ghost played by Gerard Butler,
these are just the main characters. The role of the Opera Ghost is played by Gerard Butler, his acting
was good which wasn t surprising I have seen some of his other roles and they were all well done also.
What surprised me the most how well he could sing. There any many characters that are seen
throughout the film, some supporting roles include Madame Giry played by Miranda Richardson, Meg
Giry played by Jennifer Ellison, Carlotta Giudicelli played by Minnie Driver, Gilles André played by
Simon Callow, Monsieur Lefèvre played by James Fleet, and Monsieur Reyer played by Murray
Melvin. There are of course extras. This movie is a musical that is mainly drama based, so not only
does it help keep the movie interesting, the music is good enough you could listen to it on its own. The
movie is set in an Paris Opera House named the Opera Populaire in 1870. The Opera Populaire is very
beautiful and huge. Christine gets a visit from The Angel of Music after her father s death, the angel

Knights Essay Sample
The last time the Newcastle Knights participated in finals footy, a Mitchell Pearce led Roosters side
knocked them out of a Grand Final qualifier, and they went on to win the competition.
Since that time, the Knights only have three wooden spoons to show for what has been the darkest
period in the club s history.
As the community club of the NRL, the Knights have some of the most loyal fans in the league that
continually fill McDonald Jones Stadium on a weekly basis, irrespective of their position on the
ladder.
The Knights massive recruitment drive for 2018 was recently topped off with the signature of Pearce,
who was drawn to the club by the loyal community so hungry for success.

In the last month I ve spoken to a lot of people I respect that are close to me, that want the best for you
but at the end of the day it came back to me, I had a good feeling about Newcastle.
I ve got high hopes for this season, I really believe that we can push a lot of teams this year; the sky is
the limit with this group.
Among that group of young players is Brock Lamb, who broke out last year as a rising star punching
above his weight in terms of responsibility for a 20 year old.
He shouldered that responsibility incredibly well, but his future at the club is uncertain with the
addition of Pearce and Watson, as well as current halfback Trent Hodkinson.
In a situation that seems identical to Cronk wanting Pearce to stay at the Roosters, the latter hopes to
play alongside Lamb in Knights colours next year.
I d love Brock to stay, before I came here I was a big fan of the way he played, Pearce said.
For a 20 year old the way he played in a team that was down the bottom of the ladder was a real
standout.
He s got a massive future and is a local junior so I d love to form some sort of combination there.
Before reaching a decision, Pearce sensed something special was brewing at the Knights after his first
visit to the club, even calling his father Balmain legend Wayne Pearce to tell him so.
That special feeling continued this morning for Pearce, who met the squad and

White Privilege In America
Dr. Peggy McIntosh makes a clear distinction between racism and white privilege. Personally, I have
seen and been affected by white privilege more than by racism. I have always been more affected by
the advantages given to whites than the disadvantages given to others. In school I was always
identified as an equal with my white friends, but there were scenarios where I had to work harder to
succeed. It was always difficult communicating my ideas to a predominantly white society. As a
Hindu, I always found it appalling when events at my school were cancelled due to pushback from
white Christian parents. As soon as a white parent would argue for something, administration would
immediately accommodate in any way necessary. When minorities, such ... Show more content on

For example, while visiting family and friends in India, I have always noticed how differently
different tourist groups are treated. A white family will be pampered the entire trip and provided extra
accommodations to make their stays more pleasant, where as my family will be treated like a
commoner and not given any attention. While white privilege mostly refers to societal privileges
afforded to whites indirectly in Western countries, it is hard not to recognize the effects of white
privilege in other communities. Through my experiences, I believe the root of white privilege and
racism is the perpetual dominance of whites over others throughout history: dominance over money,
culture, environment, and people. While people try to eliminate white privilege, it is mostly white
activists trying to promote change. If white privilege is only being condoned criticized by activism in
the white community, it promotes the idea that only white people can engender change. In order to
truly fight white privilege, minorities and activists of all kinds need to unite and overcome the
difficulties. It may be hard in the short term to level the playing field, but once the playing field is
level and power is not controlled by whites, white privilege and racism can finally

extensive research on the Montford Point Marines, and had the privilege of attending the Montford
Marines Congressional Gold Medal ceremony in June 2012. Ladies and gentlemen, Gunny Sergeant
Bagley.
[Attention] On display at the Montford Point Marine Museum at Camp Johnson, North Carolina is a
Marine Corps dress blues uniform. The uniform is identical to any other set of dress blues worn by
Marines through the mid 1940s. Just like any other set of dress blues, the Marine who wore them went
through a grueling period of training to earn the right to wear this uniform. However, this particular
dress uniform bears a different legacy of hardships and endurance than that of Marines who had come
before.
[Motivation] These blues belonged to Edgar Huff, the first African American to reach the rank of
Sergeant Major in the Marine Corps and one of the first African Americans to be allowed to enlist in
the Marine Corps. Sergeant Major Huff and nearly twenty thousand other African Americans began a
new legacy of service in the United States Marine Corps.

ranks, the newly installed Marines experienced a great deal of opposition and racism from both the

Baseball In The 90 s Essay
Baseball in the 1990 s, a throwing, running, hitting sport, started in 1845. Baseball in the 90 s was a
good year for baseball. In the late 90 s there was some really good players and really big hitters. The
best hitter was Tony Gwynn ( Thompson 1). . There was a lot of Hall of fame players in the 90 s.
There were some young ones and old ones. One of the best players to play in the 90 s had a steroid
controversy. The player to have the steroid controversy was Mark McGwire. He owed a lot of money,
but using the steroids actually helped him. There was a home run derby in the 90 s too. They have one
every year. In the derby, there has to be a winner and a loser. Everybody loses but the one who does
not hit as much as the other players is the biggest loser. Baseball today is a lot more different than it
used to be by a lot. The players are better than they used to be. There is a leading player today and
there is a not so good player. In the late 90 s there were some good players who played and left some
big shoes to fill for the next people going in after they retire. Just like when Carl Ripken Jr. went way
over Lou Gehrig s playing streak on September 6, 1995 (Johnson 68). Ripken even beat his own
playing streak with 2, 632 in 1998 (Johnson 68). We even had really good hitters too. Tony Gwynn

The Importance Of Family Group Conferencing
B. Family Group Conferences
In regard to social process, New Zealand has relied on restorative justice practices in order to increase
understanding and reduce tensions and conflict. Progressive in nature, they support the engaging of
people of diverse cultures and faiths in an attempt to recognize common humanity (Clark, 2007). As a
result, Family group conferencing originated in New Zealand in 1989 and routinely involves victims,
offenders, and additional community members (Armour, 2012, p. 26). Family group conferencing is
similar to victim offender mediation in that it also seeks to give victims the opportunity to express the
impact of their crime which occurred to them, to receive answers, and to have an active role in the
process of holding offenders accountable for their actions (Umbreit Zehr, 1996, p. 24). Unlike victim
offender mediation, however, family group conferencing brings family members, social service
professionals, law enforcement (if needed), community members, and any other stakeholder necessary
to address the problem (Beck et. al, 2015, p. 222). By acknowledging a wider range of people as
victims of an offense, family group conferencing contributes to the overall healing of the community.
With its focus on solutions, family group conferencing is most often used in situations involving the
welfare of children. As it relates to the previous mentioned standpoint theory, this approach is
advantageous in helping with the needs of women in regard to

normalization, by the society they live in, of the way these women are treated goes hand in hand with
the way men seem to discard them so easily, because in Song of Solomon the women are the ones who
get left behind. Morrison tries to break the stereotypical characterization of the women s dependency
on men, for instance by creating characters like Pilate who are more than capable to break free.
In the novel it is noticeable that some of the women are those who seem to be unable to fly and suffer
the most at the hand of the characters who are able. They are trapped in their marriages, crushed by
heavy burdens and try to survive day by day. (Morrison, 1977) Some women seem to be grounded and
trapped on earth. They are obsessive and rely on the safe and familiar places they have known their
whole lives , for instance Ruth Foster Dead, she is milkman s mother and the daughter of the first

Peter Singer the Ethics of Internet Piracy
Proposition: Peter Singer suggests based on the article that it may be morally right to pirate under
certain circumstances. Evidence: One such circumstance is that people can no longer purchase out
certain print works, as presented within the article One marvel of the Internet is that some of my older
works, long out of print, are now far more widely available than they ever were before in pirated
versions . This shows that it could be beneficial to have works online for others to use when they are
no longer available in print. Another circumstance is presented when Singer claims that by reading the
pirated copy of a book sent from his colleague, no one was worse off due to the fact that it was not for
sale in digital form. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He suggests that if there was a low user fee, there would be less incentive to pirate. Therefore, there is
a solution to the argument he s presenting. Potential Objections: Authors will argue against Singer s
argument that pirated books are not entirely morally wrong because for many authors their work is not
paying off. Many might object and say that they are entirely wrong because it hurts them. Some
authors lose earnings when their books are pirated because that s all they have. Many do not have
other ways of earning money and if someone else is making money using their work it s even worse
for them. Such is the case with Kim Dotcom who was making money using other people s work. He
wasn t just sharing different works, he was earning money using works that didn t belong to him.
Assumptions: Singer argues that if legislation stopping piracy does not happen most creative people
will need to earn a living doing something else, and we will all be the losers. He s assuming that
without legislation, publishers/artists/authors etc. will continue to lose money from pirating of their
works but he has no real proof that this is true. He also makes the assumption that if there were a
cheap enough user fee, the incentive to use pirated copies would diminish, be he has no actual way of
knowing this. He only assumes this based on what he thinks it s the best solution. Information about
the context: Singer shares in his article that internet

Achieving High School Goals
Have you ever wondered about how you ll graduate high school? If you attend college, or go traveling

order to take part in college and achieve my goal of being an architect. However, I can tell that my
abilities of getting work done and learn new things quickly will lead me to graduating high school
with a 4.0 grade point average and attending Stanford college which will let me access my dream job
or becoming an architect. But before I can go to Stanford, I first have to work on my skills.
The skills I need to achieve my goals are; getting my work done fast and learning new things quickly.
If I get my work done fast it will help me achieve my high school goals of getting good grades, joining
sports teams and socially interacting with others and here s why. First of all, getting my work done
fast can result in having a lot of extra free time to do things like hanging out with friends and doing

dance class at Buffa s Dance Studio. Nine years later, the studio director offered me a job. This
opportunity soon became much more than a typical high school part time job. I worked side by side
with the studio owner; each year registering 500+ dancers for their annual classes, order thousands of
costumes and producing six recitals, complete with lighting, sound, and special effects. Although not
realizing it at the time, she had offered me much more than a job. It was there I would spend my
summer days and nights, working with and learning

the men. She cleaned the dirty floors and walls. Florence always offered care to anyone who needed it.
In 1860, Florence wrote 2 important medical books. The first book is Notes on Hospitals which is
about building clean hospitals. The second book is Notes on nursing which explains about diseases
and proper nursing care. Florence believed nurses needed better training to work in hospitals. In 1860,
she started a school called the Nightingale Training School. The students there learned about nursing.
The students at the Nightingale school trained for 1 year. In 1861, she became very sick. People think
that she had chronic fatigue syndrome. It gets caused by an infection or stress. Florence worked for 16

Think about fever. It is nothing else, than the response of the body to make its defenses more active.
This was one type of tendon problem: Tendonitis. De Quervain tendonitis, for instance, in the wrist.
Tendinosis
Second tendon problem that occurs invariably with athletic activity, especially when starting is
tendinosis.
It has to do simply with normal growth of tendons in the body, when they are subjected to increased
loads.
A normal process, but nonetheless painful.
How is that?
Think about growing pains in children.
If you have children or younger brothers and sisters, you know they all complain from pain, usually in
the lower extremities, during maximal growth, especially during early adolescence.
Tendons subjected to bigger loads than usual, grow in a similar way.
How does this problem manifest itself?
Deep pain, or discomfort in tendons or fasciae (Flat tendon structures).
Painful limitation of movements even is frequently associated.
So if such pain occurs after you increased tremendously your maximal load, then you don t need to
bother!
It s normal.
Sometimes, it lasts for one whole year or even 18 months.
This is again not abnormal.

The Evolution Of Orthognathic Surgery
Introduction and Literature review
Orthognathic surgery is the surgical procedure performed in the jaws and facial skeletal structures to
correct the congenital or acquired deformities involving bones and soft tissues (Rodrigo, 1995) to
restore the anatomy and function (Pineiro Aguilar et al., 2011) and considered as widely used
procedure (Choi et al., 2013).
Orthognathic surgery has evolved into one of the standard of care in oral and maxillofacial surgery. It
s early evolution is often credited to Vilray Blair, the famed St Louis plastic surgeon who, in
conjunction with Edward Angle, developed organized orthognathic surgery (Aziz, 2004) but, the true
origin of orthognathic surgery was in 1848 when the surgeon Simon P. Hullihen surgically ... Show

In patient with Class III malocclusion, as an example, mandibular growth continues until the late
teens, especially in male patient. Thus, orthognathic surgery is the only viable option (Venugoplan et

Orthognathic surgery appears to be a safe procedure (Kim and Park, 2007) but in a literature review of
complications related to orthognathic surgery done by Steel and Cope (2012), they found that more
than 65 complications have been published in the literature ranging from postoperative nausea and
vomiting to death. The authors in this review classified the complications to common and rare
complications and they categorized excessive bleeding as one of the common complications.
Severe bleeding may be encountered during maxillary osteotomies from damage to the descending
palatine artery, sphenopalatine artery, pterygoid venous plexus, or occasionally from damage to the
second part of the maxillary artery, while in the mandibular osteotomies significant bleeding may
occur from injury to inferior alveolar artery, masseteric artery, retromandibular vein, or facial artery

Early Twentieth Century Music Analysis
The early twentieth century was filled with violence and progress. However, despite all that was
taking place, the arts still had room to evolve. In the arts, as in other aspects of life, there was an
increased emphasis on pluralism and diversity. In the twentieth century, there were revolts spanning all
areas; but in this essay, I will focus on the musical aspects of them. Composers drew inspiration from
an enormous variety of sources, including folk and popular music; the music of Asia, Africa, and Latin
America; and European art music from the Middle Ages through the nineteenth century. During the
twentieth century, differences among styles were so great that it seems as though composers used
different musical languages, not merely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was begun by Claude Debussy in reaction to the dramatic and dynamic emotionalism of romantic
music. Impressionist music is not something that can be shown to the audience. It is something for the
audience to listen to and create their own particular atmosphere. For example, Debussy s Voiles blur
harmony with depictions of outdoor scenes or, more generally, with establishing correspondences
between the aural and the visual. Debussy stressed tone color, atmosphere, and fluidity; elements that
are essential to impressionism. Neoclassicism is a trend in which composers sought to return to
aesthetic precepts associated with the broadly defined concept of classicism , namely order, balance,
clarity, economy, and emotional restraint. Surprisingly, neoclassicism music reached back to the
Classical era for some of its inspiration. Igor Stravinsky s Pulcinella is a famous neoclassicism work
that encompassed the essence of the previous era. Stravinsky s neoclassical works emphasize restraint,
balance, and wit, and are far removed from the violence of The Rite of

Martin Luther And John Calvin Comparison Essay
The reformation was going on led by the Martin Luther, while John Calvin was born and decided upon
converting to protestantism. Both argued that the Catholic Church stirred away from its original
mission to help reach heaven and help the poor. Both reformers wanted to return the people onto the
right path in their spiritual life. Politically, Luther and Calvin believed that the Pope must not own
such power and have so much lavish, instead spend the money for the better of the society, they also
believed that each state must choose their own religion. Socially, they both believed that the laypeople
should be educated and have access to the bible for own interpretation and that all people are equal in
the eyes of God. However, despite so many points where they held the same perspective, their views

Woodland Periods in North America
North America was a land of quite diversities from the east to the south. One of the early periods was
the Eastern Woodland period (800 200 BCE) which led to the mound emergence and when the Middle
Woodland period (c. 200 BCE AD 400) started, the mounds became more significant for ritual and
spiritual meaning widespread (Scarre 681: 2013). Adena and the Middle Woodland societies traded
throughout the land such as the southern Appalachians and the Great Lakes. They would trade artifacts
like marine shells, whelks, and pipestones (ibid 682). Most of the Middle Woodland artifacts were
actually found in Ohio though it was evident that people would travel long distances to different
destinations. During the Late Woodland period (AD 400 1000), mounds were coming to an end in
some areas as well as long distance trades. Population didn t cease to grow and stretched through the
Midwest and Southwest. The villages that separated into owning more land where it was farther from
river access started to cultivate native plants but they only lasted a few years (ibid 684). When the
trading system of non local materials started to die, weapons began to emerge such as arrowheads,
bows and arrows for hunting. Tension between villages rose which then led to fighting and death
which then also led to the formation of militarized groups by the end of the first millennium (ibid
686). Chiefdoms also became a part of life around AD 1000 mainly due to people seeking help from
strong leaders in

Comparing Winter s Tale And My Brother, The Artist, At Seven
In Mark Helprin s novel, Winter s Tale, and Levine s poem, My Brother, the Artist, at Seven , the
characters grow spiritually, Rising Above themselves. The characters in both the novel and the poem
share this charactersistic. Rising above one s self is not only a figurative theme in the characters, but
also a literal theme. Beverly Penn, Peter Lake, and Cecile Mature in Helprin s novel, as well as the
young boy in Levine s poem, all show similiar traits of rising above. Beverly Penn rises above herself
in some very meaningful circumstances in Mark Helprin s novel, Winter s Tale. One moment in the
novel in which Beverly is shown rising above herself is when, Peter Lake watches as she plays the
piano. The novel states, He had unspeakable admiration for the way she had risen from obvious
weakness to court with such passion the elusive and demanding notes that he had heard. She had done
what Mootfowl had always argued. She had risen above herself, right before his eyes she had risen,
and then fallen back, weakened, vulnerable, alone (Helprin, Pg. 127). Beverly pushed through the
weakness she was experiencing from consumption, and conquered it. She was doing something that
she loved and doing it strikingly well. This was Beverly rising above herself, challenging herself to
overcome her weakness. Beverly is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cities of Salt by Abdul Rahman Munif
Short Essay The Post Colonial Arabic Novel Cities of Salt Cities of Salt has often been read as at once
an elegy for a disfigured space and society, and a chronicle of its transformation. How does Munif
represent the encounter with and effects of global capital and its arrival? How are tradition, traditional
social ties on the one hand, and the encounter with the foreign other represented? What are the
limitations and potential problems of attempting to write such a work? Elaborate! Abdelrahman
Munif, a Jordanian born Saudi novelist, wrote a novel called Cities of Salt . It is a monumental novel
that tells the story of the discovery of oil. Encountering the vicious arrival of the global, political and
economic modernity to an unnamed Persian Gulf kingdom is the main point of Munif in this novel.
Munif described the migration of the villagers as their traditional lands are destroyed, and their way of
living is thrown into disarray by the foreigners Americans, through invasion of modern technology,
cultural gaps, and a whole new bunch of the local economy. He has exercised an unconventional
format in novel by declining a clear protagonist or even its mixture. Leading characters of the novel in
its first dozen chapters are gone by the final third of the book, despite the formation of main
characters. The valley that is destroyed in the beginning and later the town of Harran that goes from a
backwater to booming oil valley or town. Where the novel s all fiction

Truth In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
Denying what you feel will not make it go away. It ensures that it never gets resolved, (Denial).
Taking action on difficult situations allows individuals to combat reality and avoid unfavorable
circumstances. However, many people think that avoiding the truth means avoiding the situation,
equivalating that the circumstances are not real. This leads to other, more costly problems. Cormac
McCarthy s The Road is set in a post apocalyptic world where a father and son are journeying in

American woman, who worries that her husband s restlessness in their marriage is due to a possible

assurance that she had no real knowledge, she redoubled her efforts to drive out of her mind the
distressing thought of faiths broken and trusts betrayed which every mental vision of Clare, of Brian,
brought with them. She could not, she would not, go again through the tearing agony that lay just
behind her, (Larsen, ch. 3.2). Having no real knowledge if her husband s affair is true helps her to put
the thought in the back of her mind, however the reader finds that the affair is not real. This
imagination of Brian and Clare shows that Irene is mentally unstable, she does not like what she
imagines when she thinks of Clare, of Brian, the two together, yet it is better to handle then the agony
she faces at the thought of Brian s sexuality. The matter of his sexuality is something she refuses to

Amelia Earhart disappeared in 1937 on an attempted fly around the world. After her plane crashed,

uninhabited island called Gardner. The theory is supposedly, while Amelia and Frederick where in the

The Importance Of Geographic Literacy
Geography, it s not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what, where,
why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about
understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that, While
the impacts of any particular far reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of the
decisions made by millions of people are enormous. ( What is Geo literacy? 2012) Geography is
something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around
them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the
consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools
throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic
geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about
geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young
adults making them geo illiterate.
Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding
human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a geo
literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the Earth is
interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long lasting effects. They should also
able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions and the impact
it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe Geographic Literacy would mean to be
better equipped to better understand the complexity of the world, how our decisions affect others, and
the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not so large world. It means that one should know
what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision
is where to live or
Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime that
requires geo literacy. ( What is Geo Literacy? ) Whether these decisions are riding a bike or driving a

Arithmetic Mean and Bounce Plate Essay examples
Guessing the Bounce Plate Affect
Abstract
The goal behind this experiment was to estimate the distance a ball would travel after it falls a certain
distance and bounces off a metal plate which has an angle of 45 degrees. To find this we had to take
the basic equations for kinematics which are (1/2)at2=x and v=v0+at and combine them to make an
equation that will help us solve for the distance the ball will travel after hitting the bounce plate. The
equation came out to be R=g*(sqrt(2)/sqrt(g))*(sqrt(H)*sqrt(h)), as that g is acceleration of gravity, h
is the height of bounce plate, and H is the height of where the ball will be dropped. After completing
this experiment the result was that the standard deviation was +/ 2.3 cmfrom the ... Show more content

he was soaring in the sky like a bird. On a sharp turn Will s tube flipped on the waterslide and will was
soaring down the slide on his stomach hitting the plastic that s sticking out of the bottom of the sliding
it felt like small needles puncturing my stomach he said. Will came soaring out the end of the tube to
only be told he had to stay on the tube next time or Will would be kicked out of the water park for the
employee s accident, Will tried to explain his story but they didn t believe it. What if Will or any other
kid was soaring down the slide and hit their head on the side of it going down at 20 30 miles an hour?
It can be a tragic accident leading to Brain Damage, Concussions or even Death. Water slides should
get more precautions for safety reasons. Water slides should become safer for these reasons. 5/17 teens

However, other factors affect the way that the company runs such as its focus on the environment and going green . Lockheed is creating programs that will help make their products more environmentally friendly. • 7. Analysis Of The Phantom Of The Opera This movie is one I ve came back to often, the acting, music, scenery, and the story itself is what brought me back. I liked how every actor in this film not only fit their role, but also made it believable. If they were to recast the actors today, I don t think they could find better actors to fit the roles. Some of the roles in this are Viscount de Chagny Raoul played by Patrick Wilson, Christine Daaé played by Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera Opera Ghost played by Gerard Butler, these are just the main characters. The role of the Opera Ghost is played by Gerard Butler, his acting was good which wasn t surprising I have seen some of his other roles and they were all well done also. What surprised me the most how well he could sing. There any many characters that are seen throughout the film, some supporting roles include Madame Giry played by Miranda Richardson, Meg Giry played by Jennifer Ellison, Carlotta Giudicelli played by Minnie Driver, Gilles André played by Simon Callow, Monsieur Lefèvre played by James Fleet, and Monsieur Reyer played by Murray Melvin. There are of course extras. This movie is a musical that is mainly drama based, so not only does it help keep the movie interesting, the music is good enough you could listen to it on its own. In the last month I ve spoken to a lot of people I respect that are close to me, that want the best for you but at the end of the day it came back to me, I had a good feeling about Newcastle. I ve got high hopes for this season, I really believe that we can push a lot of teams this year; the sky is the limit with this group. Among that group of young players is Brock Lamb, who broke out last year as a rising star punching above his weight in terms of responsibility for a 20 year old. He shouldered that responsibility incredibly well, but his future at the club is uncertain with the addition of Pearce and Watson, as well as current halfback Trent Hodkinson. In a situation that seems identical to Cronk wanting Pearce to stay at the Roosters, the latter hopes to play alongside Lamb in Knights colours next year. I d love Brock to stay, before I came here I was a big fan of the way he played, Pearce said. For a 20 year old the way he played in a team that was down the bottom of the ladder was a real standout. He s got a massive future and is a local junior so I d love to form some sort of combination there. Before reaching a decision, Pearce sensed something special was brewing at the Knights after his first visit to the club, even calling his father Balmain legend Wayne Pearce to tell him so.

  • 11. White Privilege In America Dr. Peggy McIntosh makes a clear distinction between racism and white privilege. Personally, I have seen and been affected by white privilege more than by racism. I have always been more affected by the advantages given to whites than the disadvantages given to others. In school I was always identified as an equal with my white friends, but there were scenarios where I had to work harder to succeed. It was always difficult communicating my ideas to a predominantly white society. As a Hindu, I always found it appalling when events at my school were cancelled due to pushback from white Christian parents. As soon as a white parent would argue for something, administration would immediately accommodate in any way necessary. When minorities, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, while visiting family and friends in India, I have always noticed how differently different tourist groups are treated. A white family will be pampered the entire trip and provided extra accommodations to make their stays more pleasant, where as my family will be treated like a commoner and not given any attention. While white privilege mostly refers to societal privileges afforded to whites indirectly in Western countries, it is hard not to recognize the effects of white privilege in other communities. Through my experiences, I believe the root of white privilege and racism is the perpetual dominance of whites over others throughout history: dominance over money, culture, environment, and people. While people try to eliminate white privilege, it is mostly white activists trying to promote change. If white privilege is only being condoned criticized by activism in the white community, it promotes the idea that only white people can engender change. In order to truly fight white privilege, minorities and activists of all kinds need to unite and overcome the difficulties. It may be hard in the short term to level the playing field, but once the playing field is level and power is not controlled by whites, white privilege and racism can finally ... Gunnery Sergeant Bagley has done extensive research on the Montford Point Marines, and had the privilege of attending the Montford Marines Congressional Gold Medal ceremony in June 2012. Ladies and gentlemen, Gunny Sergeant Bagley. [Attention] On display at the Montford Point Marine Museum at Camp Johnson, North Carolina is a Marine Corps dress blues uniform. The uniform is identical to any other set of dress blues worn by Marines through the mid 1940s. Just like any other set of dress blues, the Marine who wore them went through a grueling period of training to earn the right to wear this uniform. However, this particular dress uniform bears a different legacy of hardships and endurance than that of Marines who had come before. [Motivation] These blues belonged to Edgar Huff, the first African American to reach the rank of Sergeant Major in the Marine Corps and one of the first African Americans to be allowed to enlist in the Marine Corps. Sergeant Major Huff and nearly twenty thousand other African Americans began a new legacy of service in the United States Marine Corps. • 15. The Importance Of Family Group Conferencing B. Family Group Conferences In regard to social process, New Zealand has relied on restorative justice practices in order to increase understanding and reduce tensions and conflict. Progressive in nature, they support the engaging of people of diverse cultures and faiths in an attempt to recognize common humanity (Clark, 2007). As a result, Family group conferencing originated in New Zealand in 1989 and routinely involves victims, offenders, and additional community members (Armour, 2012, p. 26). Family group conferencing is similar to victim offender mediation in that it also seeks to give victims the opportunity to express the impact of their crime which occurred to them, to receive answers, and to have an active role in the process of holding offenders accountable for their actions (Umbreit Zehr, 1996, p. 24). Unlike victim offender mediation, however, family group conferencing brings family members, social service professionals, law enforcement (if needed), community members, and any other stakeholder necessary to address the problem (Beck et. al, 2015, p. 222). By acknowledging a wider range of people as victims of an offense, family group conferencing contributes to the overall healing of the community. With its focus on solutions, family group conferencing is most often used in situations involving the welfare of children. Morrison tries to break the stereotypical characterization of the women s dependency on men, for instance by creating characters like Pilate who are more than capable to break free. In the novel it is noticeable that some of the women are those who seem to be unable to fly and suffer the most at the hand of the characters who are able. They are trapped in their marriages, crushed by heavy burdens and try to survive day by day. (Morrison, 1977) Some women seem to be grounded and trapped on earth. Evidence: One such circumstance is that people can no longer purchase out certain print works, as presented within the article One marvel of the Internet is that some of my older works, long out of print, are now far more widely available than they ever were before in pirated versions . This shows that it could be beneficial to have works online for others to use when they are no longer available in print. Another circumstance is presented when Singer claims that by reading the pirated copy of a book sent from his colleague, no one was worse off due to the fact that it was not for sale in digital form. ... Potential Objections: Authors will argue against Singer s argument that pirated books are not entirely morally wrong because for many authors their work is not paying off. Many might object and say that they are entirely wrong because it hurts them. Some authors lose earnings when their books are pirated because that s all they have. Many do not have other ways of earning money and if someone else is making money using their work it s even worse for them. Such is the case with Kim Dotcom who was making money using other people s work. He wasn t just sharing different works, he was earning money using works that didn t belong to him. Assumptions: Singer argues that if legislation stopping piracy does not happen most creative people will need to earn a living doing something else, and we will all be the losers. He s assuming that without legislation, publishers/artists/authors etc. will continue to lose money from pirating of their works but he has no real proof that this is true. When the trading system of non local materials started to die, weapons began to emerge such as arrowheads, bows and arrows for hunting. Tension between villages rose which then led to fighting and death which then also led to the formation of militarized groups by the end of the first millennium (ibid 686). • 31. Narrative Essay On Camp Snoopy The first time going to camp snoopy was a huge deal because I was only 4 years old. I was with my close family, which are my brothers and cousins, and of course my mom and grandma. When we were walking into camp snoopy for the first time it was like a tree in a forest and all I could hear hear squeal of kids screaming, and the rides rumbling. The first ride we decided to go on was the elegant peanuts swing. When we got on the swing I felt the chilly metal of the seat and the smooth breeze of wind blowing into my face. After that we went to the shooting star and at first I didn t want to go on the shooting star so my cousins went on the shooting star and after they came over and said we were baby s If we didn t go on the ... • 32. Comparing Winter s Tale And My Brother, The Artist, At Seven In Mark Helprin s novel, Winter s Tale, and Levine s poem, My Brother, the Artist, at Seven , the characters grow spiritually, Rising Above themselves. The characters in both the novel and the poem share this charactersistic. Rising above one s self is not only a figurative theme in the characters, but also a literal theme. Beverly Penn, Peter Lake, and Cecile Mature in Helprin s novel, as well as the young boy in Levine s poem, all show similiar traits of rising above. Beverly Penn rises above herself in some very meaningful circumstances in Mark Helprin s novel, Winter s Tale. One moment in the novel in which Beverly is shown rising above herself is when, Peter Lake watches as she plays the piano. The novel states, He had unspeakable admiration for the way she had risen from obvious weakness to court with such passion the elusive and demanding notes that he had heard. She had done what Mootfowl had always argued. She had risen above herself, right before his eyes she had risen, and then fallen back, weakened, vulnerable, alone (Helprin, Pg. 127). Beverly pushed through the weakness she was experiencing from consumption, and conquered it. She was doing something that she loved and doing it strikingly well. This was Beverly rising above herself, challenging herself to overcome her weakness. Beverly is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 33. Cities of Salt by Abdul Rahman Munif Short Essay The Post Colonial Arabic Novel Cities of Salt Cities of Salt has often been read as at once an elegy for a disfigured space and society, and a chronicle of its transformation. How does Munif represent the encounter with and effects of global capital and its arrival? How are tradition, traditional social ties on the one hand, and the encounter with the foreign other represented? What are the limitations and potential problems of attempting to write such a work? Elaborate! Abdelrahman Munif, a Jordanian born Saudi novelist, wrote a novel called Cities of Salt . It is a monumental novel that tells the story of the discovery of oil. Encountering the vicious arrival of the global, political and economic modernity to an unnamed Persian Gulf kingdom is the main point of Munif in this novel. Munif described the migration of the villagers as their traditional lands are destroyed, and their way of living is thrown into disarray by the foreigners Americans, through invasion of modern technology, cultural gaps, and a whole new bunch of the local economy. He has exercised an unconventional format in novel by declining a clear protagonist or even its mixture. • 34. Truth In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road Denying what you feel will not make it go away. It ensures that it never gets resolved, (Denial). Taking action on difficult situations allows individuals to combat reality and avoid unfavorable circumstances. However, many people think that avoiding the truth means avoiding the situation, equivalating that the circumstances are not real. This leads to other, more costly problems. Cormac McCarthy s The Road is set in a post apocalyptic world where a father and son are journeying in hopes to escape the destruction around them. Similar to McCarthy s book, Toni Morrison centers on a young African American girl, Pecola, in The Bluest Eye, who hopes to escape the ill perceptions of others in her struggle to fit beauty perceptions within her society. ... Passing by Nella Larsen is a story told in the perspective of Irene Redfield, a fair skinned African American woman, who worries that her husband s restlessness in their marriage is due to a possible affair with her friend Clare. As Irene gets ready for an event she thinks to herself: With this self assurance that she had no real knowledge, she redoubled her efforts to drive out of her mind the distressing thought of faiths broken and trusts betrayed which every mental vision of Clare, of Brian, brought with them. She could not, she would not, go again through the tearing agony that lay just behind her, (Larsen, ch. 3.2). Having no real knowledge if her husband s affair is true helps her to put the thought in the back of her mind, however the reader finds that the affair is not real. This imagination of Brian and Clare shows that Irene is mentally unstable, she does not like what she imagines when she thinks of Clare, of Brian, the two together, yet it is better to handle then the agony she faces at the thought of Brian s sexuality. The matter of his sexuality is something she refuses to think about which is why she forms the theory of his infidelity to protect herself from the truth, yet it only drives her deeper into insanity. However, Irene is not the only one who is brought to insanity by the denial she creates. Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye, tells of a young girl, Pecola who is African American ... • 36. The Importance Of Geographic Literacy Geography, it s not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what, where, why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that, While the impacts of any particular far reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of the decisions made by millions of people are enormous. ( What is Geo literacy? 2012) Geography is something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young adults making them geo illiterate. Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a geo literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the Earth is interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long lasting effects. They should also able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions and the impact it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe Geographic Literacy would mean to be better equipped to better understand the complexity of the world, how our decisions affect others, and the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not so large world. It means that one should know what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision is where to live or Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime that requires geo literacy. • 37. Arithmetic Mean and Bounce Plate Essay examples Guessing the Bounce Plate Affect Abstract The goal behind this experiment was to estimate the distance a ball would travel after it falls a certain distance and bounces off a metal plate which has an angle of 45 degrees. To find this we had to take the basic equations for kinematics which are (1/2)at2=x and v=v0+at and combine them to make an equation that will help us solve for the distance the ball will travel after hitting the bounce plate. The equation came out to be R=g*(sqrt(2)/sqrt(g))*(sqrt(H)*sqrt(h)), as that g is acceleration of gravity, h is the height of bounce plate, and H is the height of where the ball will be dropped. After completing this experiment the result was that the standard deviation was +/ 2.3 cmfrom the ...
