Essay on Elliott Erwitt
Essay on Elliott Erwitt
Elliott Erwitt is a street photographer born in Paris from Russian immigrant parents (Erwitt, 2011).
This essay will not focus on his biography but rather put emphasis on his work. Elliott Erwitt is known
for his spontaneity when taking snapshot and passion for the human condition (Magnum Photos,
2011). He also has a very sharp sense of humor that is without a doubt reflected on his work. Elliott
Erwitt has also a particular affinity for dogs and kids (Erwitt, 2011). It is said that the challenge is to
be able to recognize the work of a particular photographer based on specific characteristics distinctive
to him (Magnum Photos, 2011). As a matter of fact, Elliott Erwitt s snapshots all have distinguishing

I think that this picture is really about enjoying youself without caring of what society believes is
appropriate. It is said that The true content of a photograph is invisible, for it derives from a play not
with form but with time . This makes me think that the real content of a picture, which is what the
photographer tried to express, is not evident to perceive unless an explanatory text is provided. In fact,
I believe that our perceptions of pictures changes over time as the historical context do. In addition,
our opinions are never fixed as they are influenced by our environment. Therefore, when looking at a
particular picture at a given time, it is certain that our perception of it will be different in the future
based on what happen between the first time and second time we saw it.
After viewing these six pictures, I consider that it is almost impossible to feel sad or depressed when
looking at Elliott Erwitt work. Finally, the essay will be finished by mentioning a quote of him that I
believe perfectly represents what photography is about and how it reaches out to most people: It s
about reacting to what you see, hopefully without preconception. You can find pictures anywhere. It s
simply a matter of noticing things and organizing them. You just have to care about what s around you
and have a concern with humanity and the human comedy.

The Effects Of Major Depressive Disorder
Nearly 1 in 5 people will experience a major depressive episode at some point in their lives (Zhang,
Li, Sha, Bu, 2015). Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a widespread problem that can affect anyone
regardless of gender or age. MDD is one of the most common mental illnesses (with an estimated
lifetime prevalence of 16.6%) and is associated with significant impairments in social, occupational,
and educational functioning (Synder, 2013). Depression causes problems in a person s everyday life.
There are various treatment models that been found to help in the treatment and cure of depression.
The two most commonly used are psychotherapy and medicinal therapy. Psychotherapy comprises of

There are also patients that will present somatic symptoms. Somatic symptoms refer to symptoms that
are experienced in the body such as: pain, nausea, dizziness, and fainting. In a random sample of adult
patients, 23% met criteria for a depressive order and 14.8% met criteria for an anxiety disorder,
however, none of those patients offered up any emotional complaints or suggested a psychological
reason for their somatic symptom (Gates, Petterson, Wingrove, Miller, Klink, 2016). Physicians need
to be aware of these symptoms to properly diagnose patients who are not willingly to admit they might
have any mental distress in their life. Major Depression Disorder affects all areas of life for the person
living with major depression disorder. When depressed, people struggle to perform normal everyday
activities. They have trouble concentrating on their work, they tend to isolate themselves from social
activities, become lethargic, and lose the ability to enjoy things that used to bring them pleasure such
as eating and sex. Cognitive impairments are now recognized as a significant facet of major
depressive disorder (MDD) (Snyder, 2013). The brain plays a vital role in fostering survival in life and
reproduction among species. When are brains are malfunctioning in ways such as in depression if

How Is Brutus Justified In Killing Caesar
Et tu, Brute! Then fall, Caesar, Caesar cried as he breathed his last and fell to the floor of the senate
house. His blood flowed from the dagger holes in his body, pooling at the feet of his murderers. And
there he lay, dead, slayed by the hand of his former friend Brutus. His so trusted, so honorable friend,
upon whom he thought he could depend, had betrayed him. Some may say that Brutus was not a
Betrayer, as he did what he did because he loved Rome more than Caesar. While it may be true that
Brutus loved Rome and was a patriot, this does not change his actions of betrayal towards Caesar.
While Caesar s murder was gruesome, some would argue that the patriotism and control displayed by
Brutus justifies the necessary removal of Caesar. After all, Burutus does prevent the death of Antony
by saying that Our course will seem too bloody, Caius Cassius, To cut the head off and then hack the
limbs,...And, gentle friends, Let s kill him boldly, but not wrathfully;...We shall be call d purgers, not

Brutus may indeed have decided that, while he loved Caesar, Caesar was dangerous and Rome was
more important. Despite this, Brutus logic depended on the fact that Caesar would be ambitious, and
that that ambition could harm Rome. But as Antony and Brutus pointed out of Caesar that I have not
known when his affections sway d More than his reason, and on the Lupercal I thrice presented him a
kingly crown, Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition? This indicates that Caesar had not shown
any dangerous ambition in the past, and so if Brutus basis for killing Caesar depended fully on the fact
that as he was ambitious, I slew him. There is...death for his ambition, then his killing Caesar could

Dual Language Learners Are Children Learning Two Or More
Dual language learners are children learning two or more languages at the same time, as well as those
learning a second language while continuing to develop their first (or home) language (Dual language
learning, 2008). The number of children being raised in bilingual homes is large and growing,
however the mechanism of language development in children from bilingual homes is not well
described or understood (Hoff et al., 2011). A large body of research has refuted the opinion that dual
language input may confuse children, and other research indicates that children exposed to two
languages can distinguish those languages from infancy, learn two phonological systems, two
vocabularies and two grammars (Kova´cs Mehler, 2009a; Petitto, ... Show more content on

The goals for students in dual language education programs include high levels of bilingualism and
biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross cultural competence for all students (Lindholm Leary,
2012). Dual language immersion programs integrate language and academic content instruction in
English and a partner language to promote bilingualism and biliteracy.
Heritage languages refer to the languages spoken by immigrants and their children and has recently
come to be used broadly by those concerned about the study, maintenance, and revitalization of non
English languages in the United States (Montrul, 2012). Heritage language learners contain a
heterogeneous group ranging from fluent native speakers to non speakers who may be generations
removed but who may feel culturally connected to a language (Deusen Scholl, 2003). A heritage
language program is any language development program that is designed or tailored to address the
needs of heritage language learners, and heritage language programs may be at any level or setting and
vary in terms of their approaches to teaching, populations they serve, and other factors (Chao, 1997).
Heritage language programs have three major educational contexts: community based program, K 12,
and higher education. Heritage language schools are often created out of a community s desire to pass
on their language and culture from one generation to the next in order to maintain connections within
families and communities

Dandruff And Dry Itchy Scalp Issues
How Treat and identify Dandruff and Dry Itchy Scalp Issues
Supposedly, about one in 5 individuals have actually attempted a minimum of one hair treatment for
dandruff at some time in their life. Despite the fact that dandruff is a safe condition, it can be both
humiliating and irritating for individuals who have it. Dandruff can be dued to a range of things,
consisting of an overproduction of a kind of yeast on the scalp, anxiety, illness as well as the
modification of periods.
Often, exactly what s thought to be dandruff is merely hair shampoo residue from careless rinsing or

worse. So, firstly you have to understand exactly what type of issue you have. Right here s how you

over a sheet of dark paper. If you see small, dry, grainy hits, you have dry scalp. , if the flakes are

seborrhea if you have huge oily flakes and your scalp is red and inflamed. If the scales stay with the
scalp, it might be psoriasis, and if it does not clear up, get in touch with a skin specialist.
Initially utilize a clarifying hair shampoo with cider vinegar to get rid of any accumulation of hair
shampoo or conditioner on the scalp if exactly what you have is dry scalp. Then attempt an oil

Emily Dickinson Hope
In the poem Hope Is The Thing With Feathers by Emily Dickinson establish a metaphors of hope
through a bird. Hope is thinking for the author as a bird that continues to grow inside her. Even though
she expresses her dark times, hope gives her some motivations to face it. In this poem Dickinson
symbolizes bird as hope, in which she describes hope as something anybody can touch. The author
uses iambic trimeter rhythm with and extra syllable in the first and third lines of each stanza and also
repetitions. Dickinson realizes hope as a something that never stop growing within humanity no matter
what going on. She describes the concept of hope to a feathered bird that constantly is in the heart of
every human. She talks about how to react to hardship as human beings. She also shows the storms of
potential effects on the bird. She suggests that Hope is a constantly grow that human create after or

has difficult times for example when is winter, bird needs to create nest to be warm. But nevertheless
people create hope when they have a problem. She explains that a bird has wings and flies but no one
can take away its ability to fly. Likewise, humans have the hope that no one can destroy or remove it.
The bird s characteristics stated in this poem is intended to symbolize the hope of a better life. The
other symbols are Gale and Storm . They symbolize the hardship we go through in life. This hardship
repress hope but hope continues to fly and never ends. In the third stanza, Dickinson continues to use
symbols as in the chilliest land and the strangest Sea . Those symbolize the difficult condition of life
in where the hope is perpetual. The last symbol used is a crumb . It symbolizes a return that the hope

Christmas Day In Japan
You might wonder what other people in the world are doing at this time of the year. Well, this paper
will tell you all about what the Japanese people do during Christmas. You may be surprised at what
they do during this special holiday. In Japan they do celebrate Christmas, but surprisingly celebrating
Christmas is not their number one priority. Although they celebrate Christmas on the same day that we
do they celebrate Christmas eve even more, and they do not celebrate it in a way that would be
common. Many people in Japan think of Christmas eve as a day of peace and love. They celebrate
Christmas eve like it is another valentine s day, and usually go to a fancy restaurant and buy each
other a gift. Another tradition that many Japanese people do on Christmas and Christmas eve is the
Disney Christmas Parade. The Disney Christmas Parade is when they have a parade with many
Disney characters who pass out candy and do some cool tricks. Not only do they celebrate it like a
valentine s day, but they also have many favorite foods. Some of their favorite foods that they have are
KFC and strawberry shortcake. It may sound weird that they eat KFC on Christmas eve and Christmas
day, but it is a tradition around Japan. KFC in Japan was first introduced when a Japanese family
could not find any turkey for Christmas and so they ate fried chicken instead. The KFC manager saw
his opportunity and decide to run a campaign called Kentucky for Christmas . Kentucky for Christmas

things. You have not endeavored to snatch from the eleventh the life of a thief. The look the priest

The jailer, a large wart faced man with the disposition of a well kicked wild boar, was never one to
dally in his task. To this man s mind, anyone whom the king deemed vile enough to place under his
charge deserved whatever horrid fate the cruel man s twisted mind could develop. For the girl
cowering in the corner of her too small cell, rape was a constant threat should she be anything but
obedient. She stood, quickly, her head cast at the ground and her hands clasped before her, the
chaffing marks on her wrists where the manacles dug in dripping the occasional speck of congealed
blood. Without a word she was unchained from the wall and dragged up the steps, past the lower,
grimmyer parts of the castle, up into the lofty chambers that housed Korvin and his guests. Raucous
laughter spilled from the small dinning hall where Korvin hosted closer friends and his three generals,
a small gathering of unquestioningly loyal men. By now no instructions were necessary. She was
steered to the head of the table where the imposing mass of the monarch sat swirling a glass of wine
and listening to his generals argue while those of more noble and less military purpose made
occasional jokes about their bickering. Without a word she selected a utensil from the myriad of tools
nobility used to process their food, and began tentatively sampling the platter. If only the bright eyed

The Social Security Act Of Franklin Delano Roosevelt
After getting my first part time, minimum wage job and working for several months, I was given what
is called a W 2 form. A W 2 form broke down my entire income including the income that never even
touched my hand and showed how much of it was withheld for taxes. Social Security was the largest
hunk missing, but I knew that although it pained me to see so much gone I would get it back one day.
However, that money removed went straight into the pockets of recipients, not a trust fund I would
eventually draw from, and the future of the Social Security program (and its ability to pay me back)
was in jeopardy.
After its passage on August 14, 1935, Franklin Delano Roosevelt regarded the Social Security Act as a
cornerstone in a structure which is being built but is by no means completed but whose purpose is to
take care of human needs and at the same time provide for the United States an economic structure of
vastly greater soundness. The very opposite of soundness, however, was achieved. Today, looming
deficits and abuse of the program have left it the focus of many debates. At their conclusion, the
discussions generally only point toward making it more difficult to receive the money you put in,
back, and raising taxes drastically on those still working to provide benefits for the disproportionate
amount of retirees. Its problems are vast, but a permanent solution has yet to be decided. Far less
discussed, however, is if the program itself is worth saving. Because of

Society s Influence on Morals
The atrocities of the Holocaust have prompted much inquiry by researchers to understand how
humans can behave so cruelly toward their fellow man. Theories have been formed that cite the men
of Battalion 101 as exceptions or men with faulty personalities, when, in fact, they were ordinary men.
The people who attempted to perform a genocide were the same people as you and me with the only
difference being the environment in which they worked. The behavior of the men in Battalion 101 was
not abnormal human behavior, rather, their actions are testament to the premise that when humans are

Children were taught that the Russians were evil and while the Russian children were being taught the
same ideas about the Americans. Propaganda was used by our government to make us believe that we

the situation rationally, our entire society hated the Communists. The same situation applied for the
German citizens except, their attitudes illustrated the effectiveness of propaganda even when it has the
evilest of implications.
It must be understood that the men who transported or participated in the killings of 83,000 Jews were
not selected as men who were thought to be capable of acting inhuman. They were ordinary men in
their 30 s and 40 s who were too old to fight in the war but they were still capable of carrying out
orders. Before the war, the men worked as businessmen, truck drivers, medical workers, and even
teachers who came from middle to lower class backgrounds. It is difficult to imagine an individual,
such as a teacher, who dedicated his life to the enhancement of a child s education and well being,
participated and tolerated the killing of thousands of children. But it is true that the same men, who the
Jewish society trusted as workers and professionals, willfully tried to kill them off.

Artist Pain Exposed in Kafka s A Hunger Artist
In A Hunger Artist , Kafka comments on the life of the modern artist through the life of a hunger artist.
Kafka comments that the modern artist is always dissatisfied with his or her art. The modern artist also
is trapped in a harsh and capricious world, in which the artist struggles to maintain his or her audience
by pushing the extreme, but are cheated because they do not receive his or her recognition. Finally, in

In A Hunger Artist the artist joins the circus and wants to astound the world by setting a fasting record.
However, the more the artist fasted the more the crowds ignored him. Critic R.O.C. Winkler suggests
that the crowds ignored the artist because of a corruption in the relationships between humans.iii[iii]
The corruption is seen when a passer by stopped and looked at the old figure on the sign and spoke of
swindling . The comment made by the passer by cheated the hunger artist of his recognition, and
showed the world s inborn malice and indifference . The hunger artist s eroded cage, comprised of
dirty and illegible placards, the pointless sign tracking the days of the fast and dirty straw, further
signified the corruption in the relationship between the hunger artist and the world. During Kafka s
lifetime he saw a shift in his audience s attention and felt alienated by modern society.iv
As the hunger artist sought the crowd s attention he was also trapped in another struggle between his
need for fame and his need for isolation. The struggle is seen when the artist s cage was set up near the
animals in the circus. As people walked to the menagerie they saw the artist and some stayed and
stared and others rushed off to see the animals. Ironically, the artist disliked the people

The Rule of Law Essay
The rule of law is a difficult concept to grasp and proves elusive to substantive definition. However,
the following work considers the attempts of various social and legal theorists to define the concept
and pertinent authorities are considered. Attitudes and emphasis as to the exact shape, form and
content of the rule of law differ quite widely depending on the socio political perspective and views of
respective commentators (Slapper and Kelly, 2009, p16), although there are common themes that are
almost universally adopted. The conclusions to this work endeavour to consolidate thinking on the
rule of law in order to address the question posed in the title, which is at first sight a deceptively
simple one. The rule of law Modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slapper and Kelly postulate that: the rule of law represents a symbolic ideal against which the
proponents of widely divergent political persuasions measures and criticise the shortcomings of
contemporary State practice. (Slapper and Kelly, 2009, p15) These commentators concede that the
concept lacks precision and that its meaning changes over time. Noted legal philosopher Joseph Raz
accepted the necessity for State intervention in society and suggests that the rule of law is essentially a
means of controlling, limiting and shaping the exercise of discretion in this intervention, rather than
seeking to abolish it entirely (Raz, 1977, p195). Raz clearly appreciated the risks associated with the
arbitrary and uncontrolled exercise of discretionary power and envisaged the principle of the rule of
law as the primary safeguard against that threat. Many other writers appear to share the opinion
expressed by Raz that the raison d être of the rule of law is to control the exercise of discretion,
including Dicey, Hayek and Thompson, and to a lesser extent Unger and Weber. Dicey, for example,
in his highly influential magnum opus, An Introduction to the Study of the Law of the Constitution,
suggested that the rule of law is composed of three distinct and specific, but indivisible elements
(Dicey, 1885, p179 201). These are: 1. An absence of arbitrary power in the hands of the State; 2. The
supremacy of ordinary

The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross Essay
The Painted Door, by Sinclair Ross published in New York in 1941. Is isolation the enemy of our
improvement, or is our worst possible counselor? The letter i in illness is isolation, it is a feeling
through which a person feels and has thoughts about being rejected by others, which leads us to the
conclusion that being in that state of mind leads a person in the company of our worst enemy, the one
within ourselves. Being Isolated from John was the loneliness Ann had felt which made her feels like
it was forced upon her, like a punishment. Wisdom and Knowledge are related to the painted door as
Ann experiences loneliness and isolation from her husband John since he is occupied with work all
day. Pay no attention to me. Seven years a farmer s wife it s time was used to staying alone. John
leaves, trusting both Ann and Steven to have a friendly game of cards. When John returns he sees the
unexpected, he finds both Anna and Steven in bed, at the sight of that John rushes out and freezes
himself to death. Ann now will have to use her wisdom through her knowledge and experience to face
her, even more, loneliness and isolated future without john. Sinclair believes that Isolation will test
and perhaps divide relationships. We all have current times when things don t run the way we imagine
them to run, our relationships seem to break apart due to varies reason, it may be that we are distracted
by certain issues or that we have a conflicting expectation or that we just have

To say that African descended populations and cultures have been erased is not an unreasonable
statement because the moment Africans were enslaved and taken from their home country they were

I also saw a lot of flags, which inspired me to draw the flag of Ghana and digitally display it, so I went

Lin Foxhall s Analysis
As a major critique of Hanson s model of the agrarian and military reforms, Lin Foxhall affirms that
archaeological and historical data differ in character, and historical events do not map easily onto
archaeological events (Foxhall, 195). After conducting several archeological excavations across the
Greek Peninsula, her findings on the Early to Mid Archaic period (650 535 BCE) reveal movement
and settlement patterns of the land working population unlike Hanson s revolutionary colonization of
marginal lands (e.g. hillslopes). Naturally, Foxhall questions not the increasing rural mobilization, but,
rather, the purpose or motives behind it: in periods when investment in the countryside and pressure

The lighting, sound, set, and overall mise en scene is used in a way that allows of the feel of suspense
that was in the novel to be translated into film form. For example, one important scene that uses mise

Hannibal Lecter is placed in the center of his cell, utilizing the concept of staging. Clarice is then
placed directly in front of him, at first standing before taking a seat. By showing Lecter in the middle
and not off to the side, it gives us a sense of how important Lecter is and will be throughout the film.
Throughout their talk, there are several occasions where the camera follows movements of the
characters. On her walk to meet Lecter the camera follows Clarice through the celled hallway. Another
instance is when Lecter smells Clarice, and the camera follows an upward movement as he cranes his
neck up to the holes on the top of the wall. Lighting is used in this scene to also portray both the
overall mood the film is attempting to depict as well as to show the mood and characteristics of Dr.
Hannibal Lecter. His cell is lit brightly unlike traditional cells would be, which allows for us to see
him unobstructed, much like how the glass wall is used. There is a light on him at all times, using the
standard three point lighting

Is Welfare Possible for Marx Under the Capitalist Mode of...
In discussing is welfare possible for Marx under the capitalist mode of production there is some
debate that the welfare state have been guided through by questions, one is that the salience of the
class diminish with the extension of social citizenship? Or can welfare state fundamentally transforms
capitalist society? And finally what are the causal forces behind welfare state development? (Esping
Andersen, 1989). But as you can guess these questions aren t recent, as they were established in the
19th century by political economists, it doesn t matter whether they are liberal, conservative or even
Marxist. This is because they were preoccupied due to the relationship of capitalism and welfare. The
logic of capitalism perspective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Marxist movement has no longer aimed to revolved in the social democratic which can promotes the

the classical formulation of this thesis was simply the majoritiesof social distribution which

Julius Caesar Survival Strategy Essay
The simulation that involved survival and, at least for me, strategy began as another humdrum class
assignment for most that erupted into a battle of (simulated) control and life. Upon entry of the class
room we were asked to pair off and that our wisest couple step forward. As I ve learned from many
influences in life from game shows such as Big Brother and Survivor, to the tale of Julius Caesar, you
do not want to be the figure head power in any situation and thus refrained from such self promotion.
Once our leaders were chosen the scenario was given and the events to follow would give us a look
into human mentality and how changes to one s position can drastically affect their actions. As soon I
knew the situation my initial thought was to over throw the leadership as my main goal was to keep
my family alive and what better way to do that then to instill a leadership of my own. This plan came
into full swing when the leaders presented their plan that would surely doom if not me at least one of
my loved ones. With a few firmly asked questions and the suggestion of a plan to lengthen our time
the mob began to grow restless and rally behind me. And by the end of class we were prepared to ...

Without naming names, the most rambunctious of them became power hungry and refused to retreat

subjects of the Stanford Prison Experiment. In this simulation the subjects were broken into inmates
and prison guards and although the power was a figment of the simulation the guards began behaving
as if it were reality. Perhaps the human mind simply craves power, or perhaps the mind is easily

Racial Profiling In Canada
Discrimination towards ethnic minority continues to find its way in our country. Unfortunately, the
subject of racial profiling remains a part of Canada, as officers ignore individual behavior and instead,
rely on race in police investigations. According to Katheryn Russell (as cited by Amy Hackney Jack
Glaser, 2013) racial profiling is defined as The use of race or ethnicity by law enforcement officials as
a basis for judgement of criminal suspicion (Russell, 1998). Racial profiling within our country can be
exposed through Canadian history, surveys and interviews from those treated unjustly. All of which
stakeholders attempt to remedy for the victimization of the innocent.
Racial profiling in Canada has been around for over two decades. In the Canadian Journal of History,
Viola Desmond s Canada: A History of Blacks and Racial Segregation in the Promised Land by
Cheryl Thomas, focus on the iconic woman, Viola Desmond. Viola Desmond was an African
Canadian beauty entrepreneur in Nova Scotia, who was arrested when she refused to give up her seat
in a segregated theater in 1946. Davis took a stand since the 40 s against wrongful treatment (Thomas,
2017). By the 1950 s more controversy of racial profiling remained. According to Lekan Oguntoyinbo
in his article A troubled past: Canada, often seen by many as a progressive oasis of racial inclusiveness
and tolerance, has a complex history of racial discrimination and profiling states Canadian reputation

The Process Of Aging And Metabolism
The process of aging is one many dread and try to avoid. Arguably even worse than aging are age
related diseases that see their onset as people get older. Aging and metabolism have been found to be
closely connected. As individuals age, they usually gain weight because metabolism slows and their
body composition changes. According to a paper published in Nature, after age 45 the average person
loses about 10% of their muscle mass each decade and that mass is generally just turned into fat
because their muscles cannot metabolize and use the added calories being consumed. As a result,
consuming fewer calories has been proven to consistently extend lifespans and delay age related
diseases in evolutionary diverse organisms, meaning specialized multi cellular organisms such as
humans and animals. Several metabolites, molecules generated and used in intermediate steps of
metabolic reactions, have been shown to slow the aging process and are of great interest to researchers
because the mechanisms of how they do this is unknown. This project is a deeper dive into a specific
molecule that was of particular interest to the research team during a screening of many endogenous
molecules including metabolites and disease associated metabolites. In this study, α ketoglutarate (α
KG) is explored in order to determine if and how it effects the lifespan of adult Caenorhabditis
elegans, also known as roundworms. α KG is an important molecule in cellular respiration,
particularly the citric

Analysis of the Poem Enter without So Much As Knocking by...
Enter Without So Much As Knocking by an ex Vietnam veteran Bruce Dawe was published in 1959
and can be found in his Sometimes Gladness: Collected Poems 1954 1992. Enter Without So Much As
Knocking shows how consumerism has a negative effect on society. The poem portrays the life of a
typical man who is living in the suburbs. It begins with the birth of a child. As the baby begins to
observe the world he has been brought into, he sees instructions, signs and expectation. Dawe stresses
the point of the first thing that the baby heard, a voice of consumerism on television opposed to a
loving and comfortable family. The baby has been brought into a materialistic world, a world where
such a significant event has just taken place, a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each verse focuses on the different aspects of society, which Dawe exposes them and satirizes.
In a series of verse paragraphs, Dawe focuses on the 1950 s society with an emphasis on the
consumerism, materialism and lack of individualism. He seeks to convince an important issue in the
Australian Society Our consumer driven culture; a culture that defines us through what we buy and
consume. The focus of Dawe s criticism of the consumerism is the family that bought home the baby
from the hospital. Dawe portrays it in a satirical way; the family life and the individual lives of the
family members who have been dehumanized by such a mercantile society. He instills strong
commands when describing his family commodities: One economy size Mum, One Anthony Squires
Coolstream Summerweight Dad along with two other kids straight off the junior department rack. The
warmth of the mum, dad and kids, contrast with the advertising language which describes them. It is
as if his mum is the size of a washing machine, the father is summed up by the suit he wears, and the
baby siblings have been bought like goodies in an apartment place. Dawe is not saying that this is
actually true; he is using metaphors and exaggeration.
The young man in the poem loses his identity as he develops into the ruthless world of adulthood with
its dehumanizing competition of money hungry, back stabbing and so and so. These exaggerated
words and clichés

John De A Position Of Infamy
Travis R. Leverett Dr. Hertzel Historical Research and Writing 6 April 2015 John Dean: A Position of
Infamy In the early 1970 s, American s social climate was changing. The previous decade brought the
senseless assassination of a young, vibrant President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. On the heels of his
assassination came the assassination of his assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald; leaving America working
through a series of questioning and wondering why. Citizens witnessed the violence across the
country, as African Americans fought for civil rights, and they saw President Lyndon Baines Johnson
sign the Civil Rights Act into law. Over seas, America was involved in an unpopular war in Vietnam.
Young Americans did not understand why there was an American presence there, and yet they were
being drafted, and made to fight. Protests against the war were held on college and university
campuses across the country. The cold war with the Soviet Union was alive and well, and one year
into a newly elected President s term, America s National Aeronautics and Space Administration had
put a man on the moon. This man who was newly elected to help America out of the darkness was
Richard Milhous Nixon, elected to this his first term in November, 1968. The first term was positive
and 1972 brought promise of a second term, with President Nixon and his staff looking to lead
America for another four years. On June 17, 1972, a burglary at the Democratic National [Campaign]

Thrice heroic deed of a hero indeed Almost every society has at some point in its history praised
someone as a hero, sometimes rightfully and sometimes not. Being a hero is not only about being
strong and courageous, but it is also about having other innate qualities that differ heroes from
ordinary human beings. In Old English Beowulf hero is Beowulf himself, the main character with
large number of these traits demonstrated and proven during his heroic acts of saving ordinary human
beings and their communities from greater monstrous evil not once, not twice, but thrice. Beowulf s

The Pros And Cons Of Social Medias
Bhabish Subedi Sherry sharifian Govt 2305 14 November 2017 Social Medias and US Presidency
Social medias are the cooperative enterprises of online means of connection between people where
people share their ideas, thoughts as well as images. Some of the examples of social medias are social
networking medias such as Facebook, twitter, yahoo, Gmail, google plus and many more. Nowadays
different people have different way of living. They don t hesitate to speak. They share their sorrows,
their misunderstanding, their success all through social medias. Previously people used to
communicate through paper letters. Because of the advancement of science and technology people
started using electronic mailing system where they used to communicate and share their thought. But
Nowadays people are using Facebook as well as twitter for sharing their thoughts. Our president and
vice president use twitter for sharing their thought and ideas. Similarly, nowadays people are using
social medias just to show off where they post different types of information that is wrong or
information that gives double meaning where people want to say something, but people understand
different meaning. Dallas police tweeted that they have arrested famous footballer cornerback of
Denver broncos Aqib talab for public intoxication, but later on again Dallas police tweeted an apology
saying that the guy they had arrested was not Aqib talab but his younger brother. There are other

Winesburg Ohio Critical Analysis Essay
Written by Sherwood Anderson in 1919, Winesburg, Ohio, a collection of short stories, allows us to
enter the alternately complex, lonely, joyful, and strange lives of the inhabitants of the small town of
Winesburg, Ohio. While each character finds definition through their role in the community, we are
witness to the individual struggle each faces in trying to reconcile their secret life within. A perfect
example of two characters are Alice Hindman and Enoch Robinson. The loneliness and illusion that
encompass the lives of Alice Hindman and Enoch Robinson are the result of the discrepancy between
their own capacity for intimacy and affection and the inability of others to truly understand them. ...

Alice holds on to Ned and his promised love, even though was full of illusions, as an absolute truth.
I want to avoid being so much alone. If I am not careful I will grow unaccustomed to being around
people. (Anderson 118). Thus she joins new groups and attempts to recreate ties to her community.
However, she is unable to pass beyond her limiting life denying truth. A perfect example of this is not
even considering any type of relationship with Will Hurley, who she had met at a Church group. Alice
reaches the point of loneliness by the end which had been described in the beginning because,
regardless of her attempts to move on, her search from communal bonds and humanity had been
fruitless .
In the short story, Loneliness , Enoch Robinson also lives a life of illusions and loneliness. The story
of Enoch is in fact the story of a room almost more than it is the story of a man. (Anderson 168). The
room and its inhabitants are applied to Enoch and his mysterious, illusional character. As Enoch grew
up in Winesburg, his mother s house lay dark because all the window blinds were kept closed. Enoch
was described as a quiet, dense child. Enoch s home symbolizes his personality and his outlook
toward others. Enoch would walk top school with his nose in a book, not seeing the passing traffic.
The darkness of his home is reflected in his character. As Enoch moves to New

Essay On The Lesson In Catcher In The Rye
The Lessons Taught in the Catcher in the Rye
In the words of Juliette Lewis, The bravest thing [she has] ever done was [continue] to live when [she]
wanted to die. J.D. Salinger, author of The Catcher in the Rye, envelops this quote into the mind of the
main character, Holden Caulfield, as he struggles to find his place in the world. Holden Caulfield, a
depressed teenage boy, does not want to grow up. Although he tries to act super mature, it is clear that
he is not. Over the span of two days, he gets kicked out of school, encounters a prostitute, and
consistently ponders about how he wants to stay a child forever. Many critics believe that this best

If students do not read this book, then they too will be victims of speaking to people with this same
exact disrespect. Lastly, when Holden is in his old school s bathroom he sees the words F*ck you
(205) inscribed on the wall in red crayon. Though Holden is infuriated with the fact that this was
written in a place for children, if students do not read this book in school they may think that both
vandalization and profanity are tolerable, when really, they both bring negativity into the world. In
essence, though the profanity displayed in the book is a controversial topic for critics, it is evident that
this book must continue to be taught in schools so that children know the difference between right and
wrong.
On top of profanity, throughout the entire piece, Holden deals with extreme cases of depression. At
first, Holden notifies readers of how depressed he was when his older brother Allie passed away as he
expresses, I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddam windows with my fist,
just for the hell of it ( 39) when thinking back on the past. Holden s demeanor drastically changed
when something horrific happened to him, and if this book is not taught in schools anymore, people
dealing with the same types of feelings in real life could turn out just the same. Rather, Holden s
aggravation should teach kids that violence is never

  • 2. Essay on Elliott Erwitt Essay on Elliott Erwitt Elliott Erwitt is a street photographer born in Paris from Russian immigrant parents (Erwitt, 2011). This essay will not focus on his biography but rather put emphasis on his work. Elliott Erwitt is known for his spontaneity when taking snapshot and passion for the human condition (Magnum Photos, 2011). He also has a very sharp sense of humor that is without a doubt reflected on his work. Elliott Erwitt has also a particular affinity for dogs and kids (Erwitt, 2011). It is said that the challenge is to be able to recognize the work of a particular photographer based on specific characteristics distinctive to him (Magnum Photos, 2011). As a matter of fact, Elliott Erwitt s snapshots all have distinguishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that this picture is really about enjoying youself without caring of what society believes is appropriate. It is said that The true content of a photograph is invisible, for it derives from a play not with form but with time . This makes me think that the real content of a picture, which is what the photographer tried to express, is not evident to perceive unless an explanatory text is provided. In fact, I believe that our perceptions of pictures changes over time as the historical context do. In addition, our opinions are never fixed as they are influenced by our environment. Therefore, when looking at a particular picture at a given time, it is certain that our perception of it will be different in the future based on what happen between the first time and second time we saw it. After viewing these six pictures, I consider that it is almost impossible to feel sad or depressed when looking at Elliott Erwitt work. Finally, the essay will be finished by mentioning a quote of him that I believe perfectly represents what photography is about and how it reaches out to most people: It s about reacting to what you see, hopefully without preconception. You can find pictures anywhere. It s simply a matter of noticing things and organizing them. You just have to care about what s around you and have a concern with humanity and the human comedy. Physicians need to be aware of these symptoms to properly diagnose patients who are not willingly to admit they might have any mental distress in their life. • 4. How Is Brutus Justified In Killing Caesar Et tu, Brute! Then fall, Caesar, Caesar cried as he breathed his last and fell to the floor of the senate house. His blood flowed from the dagger holes in his body, pooling at the feet of his murderers. And there he lay, dead, slayed by the hand of his former friend Brutus. His so trusted, so honorable friend, upon whom he thought he could depend, had betrayed him. Some may say that Brutus was not a Betrayer, as he did what he did because he loved Rome more than Caesar. While it may be true that Brutus loved Rome and was a patriot, this does not change his actions of betrayal towards Caesar. While Caesar s murder was gruesome, some would argue that the patriotism and control displayed by Brutus justifies the necessary removal of Caesar. After all, Burutus does prevent the death of Antony by saying that Our course will seem too bloody, Caius Cassius, To cut the head off and then hack the limbs,...And, gentle friends, Let s kill him boldly, but not wrathfully;...We shall be call d purgers, not murderers. Dual Language Learners Are Children Learning Two Or More Dual language learners are children learning two or more languages at the same time, as well as those learning a second language while continuing to develop their first (or home) language (Dual language learning, 2008). The number of children being raised in bilingual homes is large and growing, however the mechanism of language development in children from bilingual homes is not well described or understood (Hoff et al., 2011). A large body of research has refuted the opinion that dual language input may confuse children, and other research indicates that children exposed to two languages can distinguish those languages from infancy, learn two phonological systems, two vocabularies and two grammars (Kova´cs Mehler, 2009a; Petitto, ... • 9. Christmas Day In Japan You might wonder what other people in the world are doing at this time of the year. Well, this paper will tell you all about what the Japanese people do during Christmas. You may be surprised at what they do during this special holiday. In Japan they do celebrate Christmas, but surprisingly celebrating Christmas is not their number one priority. Although they celebrate Christmas on the same day that we do they celebrate Christmas eve even more, and they do not celebrate it in a way that would be common. Many people in Japan think of Christmas eve as a day of peace and love. They celebrate Christmas eve like it is another valentine s day, and usually go to a fancy restaurant and buy each other a gift. Another tradition that many Japanese people do on Christmas and Christmas eve is the Disney Christmas Parade. The Disney Christmas Parade is when they have a parade with many Disney characters who pass out candy and do some cool tricks. Not only do they celebrate it like a valentine s day, but they also have many favorite foods. Some of their favorite foods that they have are KFC and strawberry shortcake. It may sound weird that they eat KFC on Christmas eve and Christmas day, but it is a tradition around Japan. You have not endeavored to snatch from the eleventh the life of a thief. The look the priest gave him drew a weary smile from the spy, who glanced at the fireplace with a distant look in his eyes. The jailer, a large wart faced man with the disposition of a well kicked wild boar, was never one to dally in his task. To this man s mind, anyone whom the king deemed vile enough to place under his charge deserved whatever horrid fate the cruel man s twisted mind could develop. For the girl cowering in the corner of her too small cell, rape was a constant threat should she be anything but obedient. She stood, quickly, her head cast at the ground and her hands clasped before her, the chaffing marks on her wrists where the manacles dug in dripping the occasional speck of congealed blood. Without a word she was unchained from the wall and dragged up the steps, past the lower, grimmyer parts of the castle, up into the lofty chambers that housed Korvin and his guests. Raucous laughter spilled from the small dinning hall where Korvin hosted closer friends and his three generals, a small gathering of unquestioningly loyal men. By now no instructions were necessary. She was steered to the head of the table where the imposing mass of the monarch sat swirling a glass of wine and listening to his generals argue while those of more noble and less military purpose made occasional jokes about their bickering. • 11. The Social Security Act Of Franklin Delano Roosevelt After getting my first part time, minimum wage job and working for several months, I was given what is called a W 2 form. A W 2 form broke down my entire income including the income that never even touched my hand and showed how much of it was withheld for taxes. Social Security was the largest hunk missing, but I knew that although it pained me to see so much gone I would get it back one day. However, that money removed went straight into the pockets of recipients, not a trust fund I would eventually draw from, and the future of the Social Security program (and its ability to pay me back) was in jeopardy. After its passage on August 14, 1935, Franklin Delano Roosevelt regarded the Social Security Act as a cornerstone in a structure which is being built but is by no means completed but whose purpose is to take care of human needs and at the same time provide for the United States an economic structure of vastly greater soundness. The very opposite of soundness, however, was achieved. Today, looming deficits and abuse of the program have left it the focus of many debates. At their conclusion, the discussions generally only point toward making it more difficult to receive the money you put in, back, and raising taxes drastically on those still working to provide benefits for the disproportionate amount of retirees. Its problems are vast, but a permanent solution has yet to be decided. Far less discussed, however, is if the program itself is worth saving. Because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theories have been formed that cite the men of Battalion 101 as exceptions or men with faulty personalities, when, in fact, they were ordinary men. The people who attempted to perform a genocide were the same people as you and me with the only difference being the environment in which they worked. Propaganda was used by our government to make us believe that we were the good side while they were the bad side. The same situation applied for the German citizens except, their attitudes illustrated the effectiveness of propaganda even when it has the evilest of implications. It must be understood that the men who transported or participated in the killings of 83,000 Jews were not selected as men who were thought to be capable of acting inhuman. They were ordinary men in their 30 s and 40 s who were too old to fight in the war but they were still capable of carrying out orders. Before the war, the men worked as businessmen, truck drivers, medical workers, and even teachers who came from middle to lower class backgrounds. In A Hunger Artist the artist joins the circus and wants to astound the world by setting a fasting record. However, the more the artist fasted the more the crowds ignored him. Critic R.O.C. The comment made by the passer by cheated the hunger artist of his recognition, and showed the world s inborn malice and indifference . The hunger artist s eroded cage, comprised of dirty and illegible placards, the pointless sign tracking the days of the fast and dirty straw, further signified the corruption in the relationship between the hunger artist and the world. However, the following work considers the attempts of various social and legal theorists to define the concept and pertinent authorities are considered. Attitudes and emphasis as to the exact shape, form and content of the rule of law differ quite widely depending on the socio political perspective and views of respective commentators (Slapper and Kelly, 2009, p16), although there are common themes that are almost universally adopted. Slapper and Kelly postulate that: the rule of law represents a symbolic ideal against which the proponents of widely divergent political persuasions measures and criticise the shortcomings of contemporary State practice. (Slapper and Kelly, 2009, p15) These commentators concede that the concept lacks precision and that its meaning changes over time. Noted legal philosopher Joseph Raz accepted the necessity for State intervention in society and suggests that the rule of law is essentially a means of controlling, limiting and shaping the exercise of discretion in this intervention, rather than seeking to abolish it entirely (Raz, 1977, p195). Raz clearly appreciated the risks associated with the arbitrary and uncontrolled exercise of discretionary power and envisaged the principle of the rule of law as the primary safeguard against that threat. Many other writers appear to share the opinion expressed by Raz that the raison d être of the rule of law is to control the exercise of discretion, including Dicey, Hayek and Thompson, and to a lesser extent Unger and Weber. Dicey, for example, in his highly influential magnum opus, An Introduction to the Study of the Law of the Constitution, suggested that the rule of law is composed of three distinct and specific, but indivisible elements (Dicey, 1885, p179 201). • 16. The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross Essay The Painted Door, by Sinclair Ross published in New York in 1941. Is isolation the enemy of our improvement, or is our worst possible counselor? The letter i in illness is isolation, it is a feeling through which a person feels and has thoughts about being rejected by others, which leads us to the conclusion that being in that state of mind leads a person in the company of our worst enemy, the one within ourselves. Being Isolated from John was the loneliness Ann had felt which made her feels like it was forced upon her, like a punishment. Wisdom and Knowledge are related to the painted door as Ann experiences loneliness and isolation from her husband John since he is occupied with work all day. Pay no attention to me. Seven years a farmer s wife it s time was used to staying alone. John leaves, trusting both Ann and Steven to have a friendly game of cards. When John returns he sees the unexpected, he finds both Anna and Steven in bed, at the sight of that John rushes out and freezes himself to death. Ann now will have to use her wisdom through her knowledge and experience to face her, even more, loneliness and isolated future without john. Sinclair believes that Isolation will test and perhaps divide relationships. As soon I knew the situation my initial thought was to over throw the leadership as my main goal was to keep my family alive and what better way to do that then to instill a leadership of my own. This plan came into full swing when the leaders presented their plan that would surely doom if not me at least one of my loved ones. Aging and metabolism have been found to be closely connected. As individuals age, they usually gain weight because metabolism slows and their body composition changes. According to a paper published in Nature, after age 45 the average person loses about 10% of their muscle mass each decade and that mass is generally just turned into fat because their muscles cannot metabolize and use the added calories being consumed. As a result, consuming fewer calories has been proven to consistently extend lifespans and delay age related diseases in evolutionary diverse organisms, meaning specialized multi cellular organisms such as humans and animals. Several metabolites, molecules generated and used in intermediate steps of metabolic reactions, have been shown to slow the aging process and are of great interest to researchers because the mechanisms of how they do this is unknown. This project is a deeper dive into a specific molecule that was of particular interest to the research team during a screening of many endogenous molecules including metabolites and disease associated metabolites.
