The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
Women are objectified Others. The Second Sex written by Simone de Beauvoir explores the
oppression of women forced into the role of an object, while men are the subject. In the second
chapter The Girl , de Beauvoir studies the idea of this oppression during the transition from a girl to
a woman. She coins the term of the Other to explain the phenomenon of female inessentiality and
persecution. The Other is an opponent of a female s sovereignty and limits freedoms. Simone De
Beauvoir expounds a girl s transition into an inessential object to men through the motif of the
Other to demonstrates women s role during first wave feminism.
The idea of the Other is used to solidify women s position as inessential beings. According to de
Beauvoir, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, women and inessential ; they are disposable and are merely an object in the
eyes of men and society. The transition from a girl into an inessential object is marked by
adolescence.
Adolescence triggers the impending transition to the Other. The looming evolution from a free
innocent child is marked by puberty. During adolescence, she must denounce her past freedoms and
accept her role a second rate individual. De Beauvoir denotes the transition;
This is why adolescence is such a difficult and decisive moment for women. Until then, she was an
autonomous individual: she now has to renounce her sovereignty. Not only is she torn like her
brothers, and more acutely, between her past and future, but in addition a conflict breaks put
between her ordinary claim to be subject, activity, and freedom, on the other, her erotic tendencies
and the social pressure to assume herself as a passive object. (348)
Women must reject basic human desires to fit the model of the Other. Women suppress their
freedoms, sexual desires and basic human tendencies to adhere to social pressures. De Beauvoir
comments on how women must give up their claim to be subject and subsequently adopt the role of
the object. Men are the only true subjects and therefore to reach womanhood a girl must renounce
sovereignty to become an object. Objects require complete submission to the subject and
consequently give up freedoms the had access to previously.

The Impact Of Digital Technology On Consumer Electronics,...
Abstract With the rapid development of digital technology in consumer electronics, advertising and
notification system has greater importance. Earlier systems had the drawback that the notice board
or systems that were to display notice has been done manually. The idea proposed to this project is
that using GSMtechnology so that the updates could be made with mobile and check for the
authority in the system. So updates to these notice boards could be made through a simple SMS.
The importance of notice in academic is well known to us but this system could be not only in the
school or educational but also for commercial purposes such as advertising or emergency
notification system.
Keywords: GSM modem, AVR 328, visual basic 6.0, LCD Display.
I. Introduction
This is an embedded based project. An embedded system is a combination of hardware and
software and perhaps other mechanical parts designed to perform a specific function. A Notice
Board is a very essential device in any institution/organization or public utility place like bus
stations, railway stations and parks. The big problem with these displays is to carry a computer or
special keyboard for generating and sending messages to LCD moving display board dynamically.
Carrying a host computer or special keyboard every time to generate message for LCD display
boards is big headache and also increase cost if it go for wireless based message sending. To make
the
LCD display more portable, a GSM mobile phone is used

Adrian Peterson Injuries
Sprinting, hurdling and hitting, Adrian Peterson is one of the most aggressive runners ever. With
a style that embraces contact and punishment, and forbids running out of bounds, it comes with
its ups and downs. Peterson, one of the greatest runners ever, has had a fair share of injuries in
his career, but what would occur in the the 2012 season would shock sport fans across America.
Grinding through the season impressively, he would experience a career threatening moment that
truly tested his greatness. Leaving Peterson immobilized, a tear in his ACL and MCL in his left
knee took place in week ten of the 2011 2012 season. What would happen next season would make
people wonder if he was really human. Peterson s career, starting in 2007 as... Show more content

After having five immaculate seasons that if reproduced could get him into the hall of fame, he
now has to prove what he is really made of. At the time, AP promised he would be back for the
beginning of the 2012 season. Laughed at and considered impossible, many were skeptical, but
to their surprise it was not. Knee injuries at the time were considered the most detrimental to an
athlete, other than a serious head injury of course. Many incredible athletes never were the same
after experiencing similar cases. Not only did Peterson return to form, but he came back better
than ever. Rehabbing and training viciously, he would be the only hope for Minnesota s offense
considering they went 3 13 even though he played great. AP, shocking many, returned for week
one, scoring two touchdowns and rushing for eighty seven yards. This would be the start of one
of the greatest comebacks in sports history ever. Through all sixteen games, he averaged 131
yards per game, six yards per carry, and most impressive of all Peterson rushed for a total of
2097 yards. Second to only Eric Dickerson, Peterson was just eight measly yards shy of the
record. Other than individual stats, he carried his team on his shoulders to the playoffs with
historically one of the worse supporting casts surrounding him. Moreover, Peterson won the most
valuable player award applauding his personal accomplishment. Adrian s 2011 2012 season will go

Immanuel Kant And Kant On Morality
The general definition of morality is the rules for right action and prohibitions against wrong acts.
Sometimes morality is the single set of absolute rules and prohibitions that are valid for all men
at all times and all societies. More loosely, a morality can be any set of ultimate principles, and
there may be any number of moralities in different societies. Examples would be don t cheat, don t
steal, and treat others as you would want to be treated. When dealing with the philosophers take on
morality, there are two which are usually compared to one another, Immanuel Kantand David
Hume. Immanuel Kant had many theories throughout his philosophical time. Here are some of
his ethical works, Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (1785), the Critique of Practical
Reason (1788), and the Metaphysics of Morals (1797), which contains both the Doctrine of Right
and the Doctrine of Virtue. He also had some other works of importance to his moral philosophy
including the Critique of the Power of Judgment (1790), Religion within the Boundaries of Mere
Reason (1793), and Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View (1798). Here are some of
Hume s main ethical writings, A Treatise on Human Nature (1739 40), especially books two and
three, and in An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals (1751). Also relevant to Hume s ethics
are various essays, such as Of Suicide (1777), parts of An Enquiry Concerning Human
Understanding (1748), and his Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion

Stronger By Mandis Song Analysis
Ever since I was a little girl, music has always been a major part of my life. I listen to it all the
time, and it always has an effect on me. It has influenced my feelings, thoughts, and actions.
While there are many songs that mean a lot to me, the one song that has meant the most to me
and positively influenced me throughout my life is the Christian song Stronger by Mandisa. The
first time I heard Stronger was on the K Love Radio Station two days after my mom was
diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. It was stage two, so it was a pretty serious
disease going throughout my mom s body. In the beginning, I was so upset and angry that
something so terrible could happen to my family. I kept thinking how this could happen to... Show

I knew she needed me and I needed to be an encourager toward her. When I heard this song, I
knew it was exactly what I needed. It was like sunshine during a hailstorm. During such a time of
turmoil, I never thought a song could change my attitude dramatically. My favorite line of the
song says this, The pain ain t gonna last forever/ And things can only get better/ Believe me, this
is gonna make you stronger . To me, these three lines told me that no matter what happened
things could only go up, and I can be better from it. I now know this to be true. Because of my
mom s fight, I have the courage to go after all of the things I thought I could not. For the first
time, I was not scared of the future, as I used to be. Although Stronger was written in early 2011,
I still listen to it very often. Every time the song brings back the terrible memories of both times
the best person in my life had cancer. However, this song also brings back the amazing memories I
had with my mom. Memories that show her courage and strength when I had little. One memory I
had with my mom was sitting at Duke University hospital waiting on her final chemotherapy
treatment before her surgery a few weeks ahead. The first three lines of the song perfectly described
my life in that moment. As my mom and I listened, we just laughed at how much the song meant to

Community Policing
Abstract
The descent of good neighbourhoods begins with unruly behaviour, loitering and other disruptive
acts by members of society. Due to the reality that crime is a problem; it is beneficial to police
officers and law enforcement to interact with communities and discover what needs to be done and
how urgent that action must be executed. Due to its ability to uncover problems and lead to the
efficient management of those problems, community policing is still an effective method to keep
crime rates down, boost community resident s sense of safety and maintain orderly communities.

Close knit communities are less likely to struggle with rampant crime. This is a benefit of
community policing. Members of the community can contribute significantly to strategies for
containing and eradicating crime. Due to the closeness the police officers have with the community,
community members feel safe and confident. It is hard work! There is a lot of commitment
required from department staff and city leaders responsible for institutionalizing community
policing. Organisational transformation means that police departments will have to restructure in a
way that accommodates the goals and vision of community policing. (Lawrence and McCarthy,
2013). Restructuring is demanding and it means a lot of patience as policies, training and
procedures all undergo changes. There is also the maintenance of meaningful community
partnerships. This maintenance would require the inclusion of missing voices, briefing and
education for stakeholders and shared responsibility amongst those involved for the outcomes.
Community policing is definitely a lot of maintenance and development and it consumes a

Steady Defense Business Growth The Boeing Company s defense business has been growing
steadily over the past few years. Revenues from the integrated defense system grew from $27,361
million in 2003 to $30,791 million in 2005. The defense business accounts for over 55% of the
company s revenues. Continued strong performance of this division of the Boeing Company would
counter any downturn in the commercial aircraft industry (DATAMONITOR).
Strong Growth from Developing Geographic Markets The Boeing Company has registered
strong growth in the developing markets in China, Oceania and Africa (Boeing Frontiers, Nov.
2005). For the fiscal year 2005, revenues from China grew by 87.9%; revenues from Oceania
grew by $32; and revenues from Africa grew 61.8% over the 2004 fiscal year. These regions
represent some of the fastest growing economies of the world. The Boeing Company s growing
market share in these regions would boost the company revenues of the future (DATAMONITOR).
Strategic Analysis and Choice
The main objective of Boeing s strategy is to analyze the commercial aircraft industry, to understand
the demand that is present, and to formulate a solution that will fulfill that segment. Currently, there
are only two major players in the global market: Boeing and Airbus. Boeing is widely known as the
free market champion, while Airbus represents the not so free approach of the European Union s

Jealousy In John Knowles A Separate Peace
Jealousy is an emotion very evident in our society. We often compare ourselves to others, noticing
what they have that we do not, most commonly in terms of money or looks. Even those close to us
spark our jealousy, maybe a friend or sibling; although most wouldn t admit the fact. Author John
Knowles touches on this subject in his first published novel A Separate Peace. Through the voice
of Gene, Knowles uses figurative language in a self deprecating tone to show jealousy, as evident in
the passage, The second wave, as it tore toward the beach with me, spewed me a little ahead of it,
encroaching rapidly; suddenly it was immeasurably bigger than I was, it rushed me from the
control of gravity and took control of me itself; the wave threw me

Racism Is A Hate Crime In America
Racism is a hate crime Racism has been a problem in the United States of America for a long time,
dating back to early America when the Native Americans were often attacked, harassed, and killed.
Another early problem of racism is the African slave trade. Enslaving and trading the African
people amongst white peoplealso helped contribute to the environment of a racist culture in
America by demoralizing the African races and teaching white Americans that they are better than
the African races. Although the civil rights of African Americans have improved over the last few
decades and America now has an African Americanpresident, racism still has a strong presence. A
common modern trend in America is incidental racism, which is giving other races equal
opportunity and using other elements to justify racist behavior. Racism kills and at the same
time saves the people. Racism is likely to kill people internally by damaging their emotions and
well being as a human being. Nobody likes to be at the end of the stick of racism, people would
rather be able to live their lives free of racism. I see racism as a criminal violence only because it s
an evil force really. Of course, someone does not have to be racist because they are violent, or
violent because they are racist, but I feel like racism is a crime and should be treated as such. I
feel like most hate crimes are mainly because someone hates the other race. Hate crimes are
increasing yesterday, today, and will

These issues combine to place an unfavorable light on the potential of nuclear power. Nuclear
fission, however, is not the only source of nuclear power. Nuclear fusion is another method which
offers the potential to combat some of the ailments of nuclear fission in addition to providing long
lasting power. Nuclear fusion offers several benefits to energy industry. Among the benefits of
fusion power is that fusion fuel is readily available, power produced is reliable, has a low
environmental impact, does not produce fissile materials, and carries the same terror risk as
conventional fossil fuel plants [6]. To understand why some of these benefits are true, an
understanding of the science behind nuclear fusion is necessary. To start, nuclear reactions involve
the protons and neutrons contained in the nucleus of an atom. This is different from how chemical
reactions, like the burning of fossil fuels, involve the electrons of an atom. In nuclear fission
reactions, heavier elements are torn apart. The resulting products are more stable than the reactant,

Net Neutrality
Many people worry that without net neutrality, we will lose our freedom.
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet Service provider s should treat all content on the
internet equally. Most people in the United States of America want to keep net neutrality. However,
the Federal Communications Commission s chairman, Ajit Pai, wants to stop net neutrality, so many
people are protesting to keep net neutrality. Net neutrality promotes innovation and allows freedom,
but is seen as unnecessary by the Federal Communications Commission.
One reasons to keep net neutrality is to promote innovation. People can contribute to science and

Most aspects of net neutrality can be achieved without forced regulations. They say Internet Service
Providers wouldn t want to alter internet content access and speeds anyway. We should trust our
Internet Service Providers. Internet Service Providers are afraid to alter the internet because they
would quickly lose many of their customers. They say net neutrality will disincentivize companies
in low income areas. We need more focus on broadband expansion instead of regulation of
companies; some companies take more bandwidth than others, so having net neutrality overloads
bandwidth on smaller companies that don t need as much. Also, authority should be restored to the
Federal Trade Commission. Internet speeds become overall slower by spreading out bandwidth.
The Federal Communications Commission has multiple reasons for thinking that net neutrality is
unnecessary.
Paragraph one explains how net neutrality promotes innovation. The second paragraph explains
how it protects freedom. Paragraph three explains how the Federal Communications Commission
says net neutrality is unnecessary. Net neutrality promotes innovation and freedom, but the Federal
Communications Commission sees it as an unnecessary addition to an already stable internet. Many
reasons for siding with or against net neutrality have been given to show both sides to net

In the painting, The Garden in Rue Cortot, Montmartre, Pierre Auguste Renoir displays the idea of
beauty being universal, however humans have a tendency to neglect it.
Pierre Auguste Renoir was a highly regarded French painter, who was very well known for his
leading role in Impressionist painting. The Garden in Rue Cortot, Montmartre, is a great example
of impressionism because of its bright colors and lifelike details. Upon first viewing this painting,
the viewer s eyes are immediately drawn to the vivid colors of the flowers in the foreground of the
painting. Renoir paints the foreground overwhelmingly busy which causes the viewer s eyes to be

This choice of color creates a change in lighting from the foreground being lighter and the
background being darker. In contrast to the busy foreground, the background is more barren and
spaced out. Furthermore, trees and the two men in the upper left corner to take over the
background. Additionally, the viewer s eyes are first taken to the two men having a conversation
in what looks to be the woods. These men are oblivious to anything that is going on around them
as they are both engaged in a conversation together. In the information listed next to this painting in
the Carnegie Museum of Art, the two men are believed to be Claude Monet and Alfred Sisley, both
of which are famous Impressionist painters, or the two men are also believed to be Monet and
Renoir, himself. The neglect of the beauty that is right in front of the men is still comparable to
today s era. People often focus on materialistic beauty rather than the natural beauty that is right in
front of them. As stated earlier, the claw like branch is symbolic of nature consistently trying to
wow humankind by reaching out and grabbing its attention.
Thus, humans having the tendency to neglect universal beauty is displayed by Pierre Auguste
Renoir in his painting, The Garden in Rue Cortot, Montmartre. Beauty is universal, mankind just

may be as a bank advance, account from the dealership, renting, charge card, the trusty Bank of
Mum and Dad , or bunch different types of fund, yet generally few individuals really purchase an
auto with their own particular moneyany longer.
An era prior, a private auto purchaser with, say, ВЈ8,000 money to spend would as a rule have
purchased an auto up to the estimation of ВЈ8,000. Today, that same ВЈ8,000 will probably be
utilized as a store on an auto which could be worth numerous several thousands, trailed by up to

merchant will attempt and push you towards a PCP over a HP since it will probably be better for

Like the HP above, you pay a store and have regularly scheduled installments over a term. In any
case, the regularly scheduled installments are lower and/or the term is shorter (generally a

there is still a huge lump of the fund unpaid. This is normally called a GMFV (Guaranteed
Minimum Future Value). The auto fund organization ensures that, inside certain conditions, the
auto will be worth at any rate as much as the remaining money owed. This gives you three

The Way Forward for Sainsbury
The Way Forward for Sainsbury Sainsbury has had a long history of business success, something
that it can continue for the foreseeable future if it maintains a cohesive business strategy, a
strategy that is rooted in a larger cohesive corporate vision. This paper examines some of the key
factors that the company must consider to be the foundation for a prosperous and profitable
future. This analysis demonstrates that Sainsbury s executives understand that not only does the
company have to plan and then put into effect good initiatives and good policies, but they have to
sell the company s image as one that its customers want to share. Sainsbury s sells itself
successfully by (also successfully) selling itself as a representative and purveyor of British values.
The following analysis (including the scorecard at the end) provides an overall explanation and
justification for the measures suggested that Sainsbury should take to achieve these indicators A
content analysis of Sainsbury s annual reports as well as statements made by Chief Executive
Justin King reveals what the company plans for its future in a way that is tacit, even coded. This
should hardly be surprising: In nearly every act of human verbal or written communication there are
nuances of meaning that go unsaid but that can nevertheless act as important signals between the
parties and that can serve as equally as important as the explicit messages. These tacit meanings can
occur at the highest seats of power,

The Value Of Individualism In Anthem By Ayn Rand
Anthem was written by Ayn Rand, and she was born on February 2, 1905 in Russia. Russia at
the time was heavily focused on collectivism, which is the idea that people should prioritize the
good of society over the welfare of the individual, and was highly influential on Rand s life. When
she was introduced to American history, her ideas of what a free nation should be was America.
When she left Russia, she decided to never go back to Russia and 13 years later, wrote Anthem.
Anthem is set in the future and is based in a city that has collapsed from modern day society and
accepts collectivism. Anthem is a novella about a man named Equality 7 2521 and throughout his
life, he struggles to find self identification in a society that has no sense of individualism.
Throughout the story of Anthem the main themes are the importance of the individual and the
value of martyrdom. Ayn Randwrote Anthem as a warning to us westerners about the horrors of
collectivism regardless of how it was put in use. She experienced most of the horrors first hand
and this was also another reason for writing Anthem . Some of the horrors of what she experienced
was the Kerensky Revolution and the Bolshevik Revolution which ended in her father s pharmacy
being confiscated and leading to periods of near starvation. So, based on Rand s past experiences
and her ideas, she wrote Anthem .
Anthem is about a boy named Equality 7 2521 who is Street Sweeper of the society and was given
this job as punishment for having too bright a mind, too curious, and for fighting amongst his
brothers. When he was given this job, he thought of it as an atonement to his sins for being these
things. While sweeping the streets, he finds a grill buried in the ground, leading to a underground
subway and sneaks down there every day to perform experiments to satisfy his curiosity and his
willing to learn. Equality then finds a young woman named Liberty 5 3000 and has thoughts that
no man or woman can have except at the Time of Mating. After completing many experiments,
Equality discovers electricity and uses it to make a light. When he showed it to the Council of
Scholars, he was considered an evil wretch, and they also tell him that while he believes he

Analysis Of Epictetus And Mills On The Way People Should...
2.) When we debate about Epictetus and mills work we tend to agree with both philosophers but
one of these philosophers ideas are better than the other. When it comes to Epictetus and Mills
advice on the way people should live life is quite interesting. Epictetus advise us on the fact that
some things are in our power and choice worthy we talk about clear thinking, right choices, right
aims, good character traits. Stoics believe that if we develop the habit or disposition of getting
our aims, valuations, and thoughts right we can experience happiness and understanding of a
better life. Also things such as opinion, aim, desire, and aversion . Since aim, desire, and
aversion normally lead to action, the action is partly but not entirely in our power. Character
depends on upon our opinions and aims, which are in our power; hence character traits virtues or
vices are under our control. The presence or absence of violent feelings moreover is in our power.
Some things are in our power and to be avoided confused or ignorant thinking, wrong choices, bad
aims, and bad character traits. Normally to be selected, but not when doing so would conflict with
correct thinking and action. These include but are not limited to health, survival, physical beauty,
good reputation, freedom from pain. Some things are not in our power. These include but are not
limited to illness, an early death, physical homeliness, and physical pain. Mill advice is about the

Masculinity In Bhagavad Gita
In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna is transforming Arjuna masculinity through persuading him to follow
his dharmic duty, discovering the true meaning of his actions for the killing and displaying his
divine supreme being. According to Arjuna, the war was pointless; due to his false dharmic belief,
which is killing his family is not what a man does. Krishnaconfronts Arjunaby explaining his pure
dharmic duty; a wise man is untouched by the misperception of ideas and is united merely to do the
right thing without considering the consequences. Meaning a masculine character follows his
dharmic duty without thinking about the odds, this in a way penetrates Arjuna masculinity because
it means that he is not a man and is weak By saying this Krishna is not only showing Arjuna the

Adversity Horace Quote Analysis
Quite often you hear that we do not grow without failure; that failure is what teaches us a new skill
and how to then succeed. I was not familiar with the quote, adversity has the effect of eliciting
talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant, by Horace, however I think
this quote is true. To me, this means that when someone has some kind of disadvantage, that person
can use the challenge to his advantage through self reflection, determination, and hope. Every
person faces an obstacle, usually many and of various degrees of challenge, and although you
cannot control the situation, you can control your reaction. Those of us that learn from adversity
take our timeto figure out how to approach the problem in a new manner. We recognize that one
barrier is not a reason to abandon our course. We think outside the box for how to overcome the
challenge. We learn from the first failure and we regroup for the next approach. Failure teaches you

Pre modern World War Strategies
As human beings stepped into a new phase of civilizations, many wars have occurred between

far for this course are all about the wars in pre modern world. According to Sun Tzu, supreme
excellence is an important thing in the battles because it can be helpful to break down the enemies
without fighting (Part III, 2), by which he means to fight skillfully rather than military campaigns.
Hence, in this paper, I will be going through the theme of strategy in different sources, and I will
analyze and explain some different strategies that were mentioned in the sources. Some strategies
were meant to avoid the wars, and some were to prepare and operate wars. They were building
cities in suitable positions, staying away from powerful cities wars, and keeping peace with those
who were powerful, choosing suitable people for soldiers and generals, and manipulating the ...

Essay about Burial Rituals of Native American Culture
Burial Rituals of Native American Culture
At some point in our lives, we all come to realize that death is a part of life. Cultural diversity
provides a wide variety of lifestyles and traditions for each of the unique groups of people in our
world. Within these different cultures, the rituals associated with death and burial can also be
uniquely diverse. Many consider ritualistic traditions that differ from their own to be somewhat
strange and often perceive them as unnatural. A prime example would be the burial rituals of the
Native American people. Leslie Marmon Silko s story entitled The Man to Send Rain Clouds

The feather tied to his hair is a prayer feather and the painting of the face is to ensure that he will
be recognized in the next world by his ancestors who have crossed over before him. The colors
are representative of the earth, sky, sun and water. The sprinkling of corn meal and water are
said to provide the dead with nourishment on their journey to the next world. The pollen is
representative of the earth s renewal from the rainclouds that will be sent back by the spirit of
the deceased. Silko frequently refers to a red blanket that the old man is wrapped in for burial
(149). The Native American people often leave a cord hanging from the blanket which wraps
the body of the deceased and is thought to provide a way for the spirit to be released into the
afterlife. All Native American cultures have strong beliefs in life after death, although the means
of reaching the next life may vary from tribe to tribe. They traditionally believe that death is a
part of a natural cycle in which their spirits are transported back and forth between this world and
the spirit world so that they can bring renewal and new life when they return. Most consider this
transition to be an honor or privilege since it will ensure the survival of their people. In Native
American culture, it is believed that neglect of tribal rituals can result in death and sickness, because
the spirit returns without blessings, having been unable to enter the other world. According

Federal, State, And Local Roles Of Emergency Management
Federal, State, and Local Roles in Emergency Management
Introduction
Government at all levels plays an important role during disaster management. Actions and roles of
each government agencies are spelled out in the National Incident Management System (NIMS)
and the National Response Framework (NRF). But before we go into details on the roles of
governments, let me first of all explain what constitute emergency and emergency management, just
to give clearer understanding some of these terms. Then I will examine the roles of governments at
all level including first responder actions, mutual support, lead and support roles.
An emergency is a severe, sudden and sometimes risky circumstances requiring urgent action
(Salman Sawalha, 2014). Escalation of an emergency situation can lead to disaster; which is an
unusual event that can cause lost of life and property (Salman Sawalha, 2014). International
Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRRCS) define disaster as unexpected
devastating events that disrupts the operations of a population or public which leads to huge losses
and overwhelmed the affected community s ability to respond to the situation with the resources
they have at hand . There are two main types of disaster that can lead to emergency situations; these
include natural and man made disasters.
Natural disasters are the catastrophes cause by Mother Nature , which is often difficult to forecast
or manage (Morrison, et al 2014). Examples of

but it also give them information about the dragonflies. The assessment method that I chose was to
ask the students questions about what they have learned about the dragonfly. I also feel that
another good way is the have them share what they have learned with their fellow classmates.
Lastly reviewing the chart that we did together as a class will also reinforce what they have learned
and will give the teacher an insight of what they have learned. We as teachers needs to make sure
that we include comprehensible input. This is important because it makes sure that the students
complete the assignment and understand what they have learned. In order to make sure that this is

How Did Thomas Jefferson Influence Neoclassical Architecture
Neoclassical architecture began in the mid eighteenth century by the neoclassical movement. It is a
style principally derived from the work of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio, the architecture of
classical age, and the Marcus Vitruvius Pollio principles. Neoclassical architecture was the answer
to simplifying the excesses of the Rocco style with its simpler symmetrical forms, intense use of
columns, and a fondness for blank walls. Neoclassicismcould be found flourishing in every major
city in Europe and the United States. Within this movement, two people stand out for their
architectural prominence. Thomas Jefferson from the United States and Robert Adams from Europe.
Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 July 4, 1826) was the author of the Declaration of Independence,
Governor of the State of Virginia, Ambassador to France, and the third President of the United
States of America. With these accomplishments, he was also one of the best architects of the late
18th and early 19th century. Although a well educated man, Jefferson was a self taught architect
greatly influenced by the Italian revivalist architect Andrea Palladio (1508 1580). Jefferson was

Character Analysis Of Fitzgerald s Dream In The Great Gatsby
Although their wealth has brought them materialistic satisfaction, they all constantly remain in
a state of being emotionally torn, distraught between money and true happiness. Jay is the first
to discover this struggle and eventually Daisy and Tom experience it too. Jay later shows his
conflicted feelings when he begs Daisy to tell Tom that she never loved him. Daisy said, I never
loved him, ... Oh, you want to much! she cried to Gatsby. I love you now isn t that enough? I
can t help what s past (Fitzgerald 132). This depicts a clear picture that almost is never enough
for Gatsby. Jay wants every single bit and piece of Daisy, that including her uncontrollable past.
Gatsby is so caught up in all of his memories that he forgets to add reality into his planned future.
Unfortunately, the dream is based on hollow underpinnings, on the vacuous Daisy and the
misguided concept that large amounts of money can be made and used without responsibility
(Morton Mollo). Love blinds Gatsby into thinking that things can be pick up again where they
were left off, as long as Daisy wants it s to badly enough. Jay forgets that Daisy has a rock on her

The Effects Of Sports Related Concussions On Central...
ABSTRACT
Sport related concussion is a common injury amongst athletes. This study was conducted in order
to investigate whether or not sport related concussions had an effect on central auditory processing
abilities. The study implemented a case control study design. Two hundred athletes were selected
to participate in this study. One hundred participants served as the case group and had sustained
two or more sport related concussions in a three year period. The other one hundred participants
served as the control group. Concussions were identified by a team physician using the SCAT3. All
participants completed an auditory processing disorder test battery consisting of the PPT, RGDT,
Dichotic Digits Test, CST, Nu 6 Low Frequency Filter Test and a MLD test. An independent
samples t test was used to determine the results.
INTRODUCTION
In 2006, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that approximately 1.6 million
to 3.8 million sport related concussions occur each year in the United States (Langois, Rutland
Brown, Wald, 2006). Sport related concussions are a subset of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and
are defined as a complex pathophysiological process affecting the brain (McCrory et al., 2012). The
typical signs and symptoms associated with a concussion include confusion, amnesia, headache,
dizziness, nausea, loss of balance, and/or poor concentration (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, 2010).

Snow White Archetypes
Taylia Terrell Mrs. Weiner English 4 13 September 2017 Hunting Down the Archetypes
Archetypes play a big role in many books, short stories, TV shows, and movies. There are several
different kinds of archetypes, but many of the same archetypes can be repeated throughout a
storyline. An archetype could be a character, theme, symbol, or even a setting. Some examples of
those include: The Bully (a character who intimidates others), White (a color that represents purity
and peace), and The Garden (a setting in which fertility and love are symbolized). In Snow White
and the Huntsman, many archetypes are brought to the viewer s attention. The Devil Figure is a

In the story that everyone knows, Snow White is the fairest of them all. She is pure, kind,
innocent, and has good knowledge. All of those things fall under the White archetype. She also
shows us the Battle between Good and Evil. Typically, good triumphs. This archetype is
normally seen as light versus dark. Snow White is originally running from the Queen, and along
the way she fights many obstacles, such as, the Queen s guards/armies. Eventually, she develops
her own army and goes to fight Ravenna. Which brings me to the Light and Darkness Archetype:
light is a symbol of hope and renewal whereas darkness symbolizes the unknown, ignorance, evil,
and despair. Snow White is pure, honored, and gives an example of hope to reestablish her
kingdom, while The Queen is anything but honored. The people of the kingdom resent her and the
darkness that she displays. Last but not least, Snow White exhibits The Task archetype. In this
archetype, the hero will save a kingdom and identify themselves so that she may assume her
rightful position. Snow White s task is to restore life and take back the kingdom that was taken

How many times have you said, No way, I do not believe it! It is our natural tendency not to
believe in something that we have not seen with our own eyes or experienced it personally. There
is a saying, seeing is believing which has led us to a world full of skeptics. We want proof so we
are not gullible fools. Skepticism, or scepticism, as it was spelled back in the ancient times, was
pondered by philosophers who tried unsuccessfully to figure out the thought process and how
we gain knowledge. Philosophers gave deep thought to determine how we arrive at such true
beliefs and knowledge of the external world. Three such philosophers were Rene Descartes,
David Hume and Christopher Grau. Rene Descartes was a French philosopher in the early 1600
s; David Hume was a Scottish Philosopher in the 1700 s, and Grau an American philosopher
Professor born in 1970. The timeline s important because philosophical views have evolved over
time. All three men were from different eras, but they each explored, argued, and addressed the
topic of skepticism from their philosophical view. This proves that they take the subject of
skepticism seriously, just as we should too. There is good reason to believe that a human s
knowledge of the external world results from both a posteriori knowledge acquired through sensory
experience and a priori knowledge which is innate. Descartes, Hume, and Grau through their
personal views and skeptical

David Mallett Case Study
David Mallett is a highly sought after hairstylist from Paris. His salon demands 250€ alone,
for a simple cut. He previously worked on models for Elle, Dior, L Oreal, along with an
abundance of others. I believe that hair should look good long after the client has left the salon,
states Mallett, as should every hairdresser. With his particular look shown above, I enjoy it due to
the cleanliness and precise work shown. Every sliver of hair is placed in such a manner that the
entire modelis perceived in a fancy way. She could be wearing rags and all I, or possibly anyone,
would focus on is the delicacy Mallett so obviously contributed. Her dye color is the correct shade
for her skin pigmentation and the braid wrapped around her head does

Original Work Of Dc Comics Copyright
Because the Batmobile is the original work of DC Comics, the district court told Towle he was
wrong by saying that DC Comics does maintain a copyright for the Batmobile as it appears in both
the 1966 television series and the 1989 film based on their rights to merchandising and because the
appearance and idea originated in the comic books (caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 13). The district
court than put this Batmanfight to an end by stating that Towle did infringe on DC Comics copyright
because of how he replicated the Batmobile as it appeared in both productions
(caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 13). Clearly this is an open and shut case because the district court
granted the summary judgment to DC Comics for both the copyright and the trademark... Show

It was agreed that all claims would be dismiss and on February 22, 2013 the court entered an
agreement that is consistent with stipulation, which would later result in Towle appealing
(caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 16).
For DC to be able to win their case, they must be able to prove that they own a copyright for the
Batmobile as it appeared in the 1966 television show and the 1989 movie. They must also prove
that Towle s replicas infringed on their copyright and that the creation of them was unauthorized
(caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 18). In the appeal court, it is concluded that the Batmobile
character is the property of DC and is copyrightable; therefore Towle did infringe upon DC
Comics s rights when he produced unauthorized works of the Batmobile. The ruling of the
district court is then affirmed (caselaw.find.com, para. 49). The court first answered Towle s
original argument that the Batmobile is not copyrightable as it appears in not only the television
series and the motion picture by using the case New Line v. Bertlesman Music Group. In this
case, it is argued that Zomba, a musican, has infringed New Line s copyright on the A Nightmare
on Elm Street in the music video A Nightmare on My Street. Bertlesman Music Group represents
Zomba in this case (law.justia.com, para 1). This case acts as a precedent for DC Comics v
Towle, because the music video was not related to the film series yet featured a character that was

A Brief Note On The And Its Effects On The Environment
CHAPTER 4
POLLUTION DUE TO EMISSIONS
IC engines generate undesirable emissions during the combustion process. The emissions exhausted
into the surroundings pollute the atmosphere and causes following problems.
Global warming
Acid rain
Smog
Odors
Respiratory and other health hazards.
The major causes of these emissions are non stoichiometric combustion, dissociation of nitrogen,
and impurities in the fuel and air. The emissions of concern are unburnt hydro carbons (HC),
oxides of carbon (COX), oxides of nitrogen (NOX), oxides of sulphur (SOX) and solid carbon
particulates.
It is the dream of engineers and scientists to develop engines and fuels such that very few quantity
of harmful emissions are generated, and these could be let into the surroundings without a major
impact on the environment. However with the present technology this is not possible, and after
treatment of the exhaust gases as well as in cylinder reduction of emissions is important.
4.1 AIR POLLUTION DUE TO IC ENGINES
Until the middle of the 20th century the number of IC engines in the world was so small that the
pollution they caused was tolerable. During that period the environment, with the help of sunlight,
stayed relatively clean. As world population grew, power plants, factories, and an ever increasing
number of automobiles began to pollute the air to the extent that it is no longer acceptable. During
the late 1940s, air pollution as a problem was first recognized in the Los Angeles basin

Individuality In Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Individuality, a thing we all take for granted, but in a collectivist society, individuality is banned
in all forms and is enforced with torture and execution in the name of brotherly love . In the
novella Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, all men are bound to the society and held captive by the
government s beliefs. The Home of Scholars is responsible for all scientific discoveries. A new
act is preventing them from releasing their findings into the society. Equality also dabbles in
science, and he knows that this is a transgression. Equality wishes only to study the clockwork of

William Tennyson s Idylls Of The King
Throughout the book by Alfred, Lord Tennyson entitled Idylls of the King, subject, ideas, and
object often reoccur on each page bring with them deeper meaning then that which is apparent. The
more specific motif that I will be explaining is the contrast and similarity of light and darkness in
the descriptions of people, settings, and the mood of a situation. Lightand darkness can be
contrasted in many ways, such as the rising sun, bright colors, and physical description of darkness
such as heavy mist. When describing people during specific events, Tennyson uses the diction
between light and dark to show the reader inside the typical appearance of the character and see
what they truly are inside. As Arthur passes by Guinevere, he Felt the light of her eyes into his
life (Tennyson 6) while Guinevere did not even notice that the King had just been in her
presence. This light from her eyes is supposed to be describing Guinevere, but it really gives us
insight into the mind of Arthur. While Arthur has become King, he still acts like an average
person. He does not think more highly of himself than everyone else and can notice a simplistic
young woman and instantly love her, although he had no idea of who she is. This also shows
Arthurs innocence in that he instantly see s good in her and feel the light radiating off of her. We
learn later that she is not nearly as wonderful as Arthur had thought, and as Arthur learns that he
was wrong to assume about her, She made her face a

Active Learner
Upon taken the study skills quiz my first score first was active. I was a reflective learner, which
prefer to think about it quietly at first versus being an active learner. I am not an active learner.
An active learner tends to retain and understand information best by doing something active with
it. If a student was an active learner in my classroom I would use the phrase, Let s try it out,
move around, and visually do it to see how it works. It tells the student that I am willing to be
active instead of sitting down all the time. By being active it keeps the student moving and
focused on the activity. (Scruggs, 2017) With an active learner, I would also try to do group work
more often so that each member can talk and be personable with each other. (Soloman, n.d.) By
doing activities in group work will also help an active learner retain information. If a math lesson...

Sensing learners like learning facts which I sometimes enjoy, because information is easier to
remember when connected to the real world. Versus intuitive learners often prefer discovering
possibilities and relationships, which I do not enjoy as much. If I had a student that was an
intuitive learner I would try to link information to hard facts and help a student pay attention to the
details and have patience while learning. An intuitive learner also can be kind of scatter brained,
so when presenting the intuitive student with a question, I would give them an empty piece of
paper to brainstorm on. (Felder, n.d.) By letting them brain storm it gives them a moment to
organize their thoughts and helps me as a teacher understand where their learning style is going
towards. Intuitive learners also like to use the trial and error approach, which I would allow my
student to do. If they had a thought or an idea and wanted to pursue it I would allow them to and

Some background information
Towards the end of January, I straightened my natural hair. I had it done at a salon primarily to
get a professional trim and a good visual of my length. I have been natural for over 6 years and I
had never done this before, so it was a completely new experience for me. I HATED my
straightened hair. It was easy to run a comb through it but, it really was a pain in the butt. For
one thing, my satin scarf and bonnet wouldn t stay on my head because my hair was so silky,
they just slid right off it. Same thing for my ponytail holder. I felt like I constant replacing my
bonnet and fixing my ponytail and I had no time for that. Having worn my hair straightened had

and taking the test, I was still mentally in that place. In fact, I d only had my natural hair back for

Vladimir Putin And Russian Statecraft Summary
The preface and introduction of Vladimir Putin and Russian Statecraft by Allen C. Lynch
introduces the namesake of the book, Vladimir Putin. The purpose of these is to grab the reader
s attention, while also briefly inducting the reader if they are clueless about the topic. This goal
they achieve, they are successful in educating the reader, as if it was a Wikipedia article.
However, while they serve to orient the reader, the two are very distinct in their focus. The
preface focuses on Vladimir Putin, a brief summary of his upbringing to his 12 years of rule, at
the time of the book s release. The summary explains his rule, but also multiple aspects of his rule.

To note, the West has preconceived notions that were caused, and have lasted, by the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics. Putin s centralization of power, oppressive control, and military
engagements in Georgia and South Ossetia, all these reaffirm the West s perception that Putin is
attempting to return to Soviet Authoritarianism. However, in Russia, all these actions are seen as
necessary. The country was on the verge of collapse when Putin came to power. Social reforms
had upturned the former way of life and corruption was rampant. In Russian s, and Putin s, eyes,
the country is becoming more modernized. Putin is doing what he sees fit, using his prior
experiences from the two decades before his presidency. Putin is the savior of Russia, and,

DEFENDING IN FOOTBALL
Defence as a system, is under rated by many coaches in youth and professional football. According
to a survey conducted by students of National Institute of Physical Education in Lleida, Spain,
individual and collective defence practice is generally occupying less than 15 % of all training
sessions (Wein, 2004). It is not surprising to see that the players who win individual awards at the
end of every season is either a goal scoring machine or a midfield maestro. Although there have
been few exceptions (Fabio Cannavaro, Franz Beckenbauer, Lev Yashin), the trend of goal scorers
or goal makers being valued over goal defenders continues. The game is based on attacking and
defending, yet it is difficult to make people understand how significant the art of defending is. A
good attack, like a good defence, decreases the number of losses a club racks up, but defence
provides a more powerful statistical explanation for why teams lose Anderson and Sally, 2013, p.
119). Between 2001/02 and 2010/2011, the following information was recorded

Defeats
10 Goals more scored2.301.76
10 Goals less conceded2.162.35

wins in English Football. But in terms of avoiding defeat, the goals that the teams did not concede
were worth 33 percent more valuable than the goals they

Persuasive Essay On Life After Death
Death it happens to everyone, the question about American capital punishments is it humane to
punish criminals by the great and last ultimatum of death. The fact that, death has numerous
questions unanswered which leaves us uninformed. We have yet to discover life after
death, individually we cannot continue to disregard the opportunity and taking advantage and
discarding it.As a country we believe life is a game, however it s the opposite. We do not receive
a second chance to achieve exceptional or worse . The real questions are ВЁCan it be our life s
already scripted out, every second of our life wrote down, and recorded ? How we know what
actually is life ? Can we be in a long never ending dream or maybe a comma ?(Lopez, Cnn)ВЁ
These may seem like irrelevant questions, but it has an exceptionally complicated answer which
no one can answer with facts. It can be as fictitious as statements stating that all of us dying
someday. Rather society likes it or not we are aware of the possibility of death happening to us
at any moment . For a variety of people death brings an unknown shiver against our bodies, but
for small amount it brings a sense of calming and it is ridden with strength and a feel of
accomplishment .However no one knows when exactly the inevitable will approach, but everyone
knows it is inescapable. But what makes death seem further real to us and those in denial of it is
the lucid pictures of women, men, and children dying. The death penalty may seem like a horrific
torture, but did you know that it is available in 30 states? The killing of a criminal is something
that is permitted by the government, which is a horrendous thing. There are several negativities
with the death penalty;the fear of death force upon others, the ability that criminals are likely to
receive redemption for their heinous crime, it is important for Americans to realize the prejudiced
factors of the death penalty which should be abolished. Criminals who are on death trial have a
very little disadvantage while trying to prove their case. The truth is that rather we accept it or not,
taking life of someone is inhumane and ВЁcapital punishmentis legalized murder .ВЁ(Flanagan, UC
Berkeley) However this argument is weak

Kritios Boy Essay
Created sometime around 480 BCE, the marble sculpture Kritios Boy is a significant piece of
ancient Greek art. Although it was recovered in a mutilated state over one thousand years after
its creation, the sculpture still manages to showcase detail of the human body in a more
naturalized form than the similar pieces of art that had came before. This piece of artwork was
created at a very busy time in Greek history. Greece was in the midst of a war with Persia, and
Athens was a pre Socratic society that was nearing the height of interest in philosophy. With that
came the quest to identify mankind s natural identity. The results of this quest was displayed in
many pieces of artwork. Kritios Boy was sculpted in the figure of a human male, and was quite
distinct from similar pieces of artwork of earlier Greek and Egyptian history. Kouros, from only
forty five years prior to Kritios Boy, was much more closely related to the heavily idealized
Egyptian sculptures like the Triad of Mycerinas. Those earlier sculptures were similar in that...

Most noticeably in the way that the statue is standing. Rather than standing in the rigid stance of
the Kouros and others before, the figure is demonstrating a contrapposto stance, a more natural
and common way of standing that places the body s weight on one side of the body, with the left
leg standing straight, and the right one bent and relaxed. Looking up through the torso, one will
see that the hips are not aligned, contributing to the more relaxed and natural stance. This
showcases the progress made in the quest to represent the natural body, as it is a very common
way for humans to stand. Other features, such as proportion and muscle definition, place Kritios
more towards the natural side of the styleized naturalized spectrum. Unlike the Kouros of 600
BCE, the Kritios s head and torso correspond well with the rest of the body, and muscle and bone
structure appear more

Chippewa Indian Culture
The clothing of the Chippewa Indians was oftentimes made of animal skin. The tendons were
taken from the animals and used as thread for the clothing that the Chippewa wore. The men
wore a long piece of animal skin or cloth between their legs and belted it at the hips. The flaps
then covered the front and behind of the men. Leggings were worn by both women and men and
sometimes they were covered with fancy fringe. The leggings were created from animal skin and
therefore were quite insulating during the cold winters. Women sometimes wore long skirts over
the top of their leggings. Women wore a thin blouse, basically like a poncho, that included a cut
out at the neck for the head to go through. Fancy aprons were worn on special occasions. The
Chippewa men wore headdresses made of stiff porcupine hair. These headdresses closely relate the
Chippewa to the Mohawk and Mohicans. Women kept their hair long in length and braided it, with
pieces of cloth and shells intermingled in them. Jewelry was something very important in the
Chippewa culture. They wore copper bracelets and beaded necklaces. Also important in the
Chippewa society were tribal tattoos and face paint. These distinct markings were used in times of
war to differentiate between tribes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

called mazinibaganjigan, or birch bark biting. They took a very thin piece of birch bark and bent it

  • 2. The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Women are objectified Others. The Second Sex written by Simone de Beauvoir explores the oppression of women forced into the role of an object, while men are the subject. In the second chapter The Girl , de Beauvoir studies the idea of this oppression during the transition from a girl to a woman. She coins the term of the Other to explain the phenomenon of female inessentiality and persecution. The Other is an opponent of a female s sovereignty and limits freedoms. Simone De Beauvoir expounds a girl s transition into an inessential object to men through the motif of the Other to demonstrates women s role during first wave feminism. The idea of the Other is used to solidify women s position as inessential beings. According to de Beauvoir, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, women and inessential ; they are disposable and are merely an object in the eyes of men and society. The transition from a girl into an inessential object is marked by adolescence. Adolescence triggers the impending transition to the Other. The looming evolution from a free innocent child is marked by puberty. During adolescence, she must denounce her past freedoms and accept her role a second rate individual. De Beauvoir denotes the transition; This is why adolescence is such a difficult and decisive moment for women. Until then, she was an autonomous individual: she now has to renounce her sovereignty. Not only is she torn like her brothers, and more acutely, between her past and future, but in addition a conflict breaks put between her ordinary claim to be subject, activity, and freedom, on the other, her erotic tendencies and the social pressure to assume herself as a passive object. (348) Women must reject basic human desires to fit the model of the Other. Women suppress their freedoms, sexual desires and basic human tendencies to adhere to social pressures. De Beauvoir comments on how women must give up their claim to be subject and subsequently adopt the role of the object. Men are the only true subjects and therefore to reach womanhood a girl must renounce sovereignty to become an object. Objects require complete submission to the subject and consequently give up freedoms the had access to previously. De Beauvoir credits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Impact Of Digital Technology On Consumer Electronics,... Abstract With the rapid development of digital technology in consumer electronics, advertising and notification system has greater importance. Earlier systems had the drawback that the notice board or systems that were to display notice has been done manually. The idea proposed to this project is that using GSMtechnology so that the updates could be made with mobile and check for the authority in the system. So updates to these notice boards could be made through a simple SMS. The importance of notice in academic is well known to us but this system could be not only in the school or educational but also for commercial purposes such as advertising or emergency notification system. Keywords: GSM modem, AVR 328, visual basic 6.0, LCD Display. I. Introduction This is an embedded based project. An embedded system is a combination of hardware and software and perhaps other mechanical parts designed to perform a specific function. A Notice Board is a very essential device in any institution/organization or public utility place like bus stations, railway stations and parks. Which I think is just teaching kids that even if they lose they still get something, and I believe that kids shouldn t be taught that. What I mean is it s a nice concept, if you want to make everyone feel good. I believe that participation trophies are nice, but what do they really help, making people feel better about themself? Even when i was younger if you got an A on your test you got a sticker, and if you failed you still got a sticker. We have made an outstanding effort to make all kids feel special, to try to boost their self esteem. Has it actually worked though? With a style that embraces contact and punishment, and forbids running out of bounds, it comes with its ups and downs. Peterson, one of the greatest runners ever, has had a fair share of injuries in his career, but what would occur in the the 2012 season would shock sport fans across America. Grinding through the season impressively, he would experience a career threatening moment that truly tested his greatness. Leaving Peterson immobilized, a tear in his ACL and MCL in his left knee took place in week ten of the 2011 2012 season. What would happen next season would make people wonder if he was really human. After having five immaculate seasons that if reproduced could get him into the hall of fame, he now has to prove what he is really made of. At the time, AP promised he would be back for the beginning of the 2012 season. Laughed at and considered impossible, many were skeptical, but to their surprise it was not. Knee injuries at the time were considered the most detrimental to an athlete, other than a serious head injury of course. Many incredible athletes never were the same after experiencing similar cases. Not only did Peterson return to form, but he came back better than ever. Rehabbing and training viciously, he would be the only hope for Minnesota s offense considering they went 3 13 even though he played great. AP, shocking many, returned for week one, scoring two touchdowns and rushing for eighty seven yards. This would be the start of one of the greatest comebacks in sports history ever. Through all sixteen games, he averaged 131 yards per game, six yards per carry, and most impressive of all Peterson rushed for a total of 2097 yards. Second to only Eric Dickerson, Peterson was just eight measly yards shy of the record. Other than individual stats, he carried his team on his shoulders to the playoffs with historically one of the worse supporting casts surrounding him. Moreover, Peterson won the most valuable player award applauding his personal accomplishment. Adrian s 2011 2012 season will go down as one of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Immanuel Kant And Kant On Morality The general definition of morality is the rules for right action and prohibitions against wrong acts. Sometimes morality is the single set of absolute rules and prohibitions that are valid for all men at all times and all societies. More loosely, a morality can be any set of ultimate principles, and there may be any number of moralities in different societies. Examples would be don t cheat, don t steal, and treat others as you would want to be treated. When dealing with the philosophers take on morality, there are two which are usually compared to one another, Immanuel Kantand David Hume. Immanuel Kant had many theories throughout his philosophical time. Here are some of his ethical works, Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (1785), the Critique of Practical Reason (1788), and the Metaphysics of Morals (1797), which contains both the Doctrine of Right and the Doctrine of Virtue. He also had some other works of importance to his moral philosophy including the Critique of the Power of Judgment (1790), Religion within the Boundaries of Mere Reason (1793), and Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View (1798). Here are some of Hume s main ethical writings, A Treatise on Human Nature (1739 40), especially books two and three, and in An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals (1751). • 7. Stronger By Mandis Song Analysis Ever since I was a little girl, music has always been a major part of my life. I listen to it all the time, and it always has an effect on me. It has influenced my feelings, thoughts, and actions. While there are many songs that mean a lot to me, the one song that has meant the most to me and positively influenced me throughout my life is the Christian song Stronger by Mandisa. The first time I heard Stronger was on the K Love Radio Station two days after my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. It was stage two, so it was a pretty serious disease going throughout my mom s body. In the beginning, I was so upset and angry that something so terrible could happen to my family. When I heard this song, I knew it was exactly what I needed. It was like sunshine during a hailstorm. During such a time of turmoil, I never thought a song could change my attitude dramatically. My favorite line of the song says this, The pain ain t gonna last forever/ And things can only get better/ Believe me, this is gonna make you stronger . To me, these three lines told me that no matter what happened things could only go up, and I can be better from it. I now know this to be true. Because of my mom s fight, I have the courage to go after all of the things I thought I could not. For the first time, I was not scared of the future, as I used to be. Although Stronger was written in early 2011, I still listen to it very often. Every time the song brings back the terrible memories of both times the best person in my life had cancer. However, this song also brings back the amazing memories I had with my mom. Memories that show her courage and strength when I had little. One memory I had with my mom was sitting at Duke University hospital waiting on her final chemotherapy treatment before her surgery a few weeks ahead. The first three lines of the song perfectly described my life in that moment. As my mom and I listened, we just laughed at how much the song meant to the both of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a lot of commitment required from department staff and city leaders responsible for institutionalizing community policing. Organisational transformation means that police departments will have to restructure in a way that accommodates the goals and vision of community policing. (Lawrence and McCarthy, 2013). Restructuring is demanding and it means a lot of patience as policies, training and procedures all undergo changes. There is also the maintenance of meaningful community partnerships. We often compare ourselves to others, noticing what they have that we do not, most commonly in terms of money or looks. Even those close to us spark our jealousy, maybe a friend or sibling; although most wouldn t admit the fact. Author John Knowles touches on this subject in his first published novel A Separate Peace. Through the voice of Gene, Knowles uses figurative language in a self deprecating tone to show jealousy, as evident in the passage, The second wave, as it tore toward the beach with me, spewed me a little ahead of it, encroaching rapidly; suddenly it was immeasurably bigger than I was, it rushed me from the control of gravity and took control of me itself; the wave threw me ... • 16. Racism Is A Hate Crime In America Racism is a hate crime Racism has been a problem in the United States of America for a long time, dating back to early America when the Native Americans were often attacked, harassed, and killed. Another early problem of racism is the African slave trade. Enslaving and trading the African people amongst white peoplealso helped contribute to the environment of a racist culture in America by demoralizing the African races and teaching white Americans that they are better than the African races. Although the civil rights of African Americans have improved over the last few decades and America now has an African Americanpresident, racism still has a strong presence. A common modern trend in America is incidental racism, which is giving other races equal opportunity and using other elements to justify racist behavior. Racism kills and at the same time saves the people. Racism is likely to kill people internally by damaging their emotions and well being as a human being. Nobody likes to be at the end of the stick of racism, people would rather be able to live their lives free of racism. I see racism as a criminal violence only because it s an evil force really. Of course, someone does not have to be racist because they are violent, or violent because they are racist, but I feel like racism is a crime and should be treated as such. I feel like most hate crimes are mainly because someone hates the other race. Hate crimes are increasing yesterday, today, and will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Among the benefits of fusion power is that fusion fuel is readily available, power produced is reliable, has a low environmental impact, does not produce fissile materials, and carries the same terror risk as conventional fossil fuel plants [6]. To understand why some of these benefits are true, an understanding of the science behind nuclear fusion is necessary. To start, nuclear reactions involve the protons and neutrons contained in the nucleus of an atom. Russia at the time was heavily focused on collectivism, which is the idea that people should prioritize the good of society over the welfare of the individual, and was highly influential on Rand s life. Anthem is set in the future and is based in a city that has collapsed from modern day society and accepts collectivism. Anthem is a novella about a man named Equality 7 2521 and throughout his life, he struggles to find self identification in a society that has no sense of individualism. Throughout the story of Anthem the main themes are the importance of the individual and the value of martyrdom. Ayn Randwrote Anthem as a warning to us westerners about the horrors of collectivism regardless of how it was put in use. She experienced most of the horrors first hand and this was also another reason for writing Anthem . Some of the horrors of what she experienced was the Kerensky Revolution and the Bolshevik Revolution which ended in her father s pharmacy being confiscated and leading to periods of near starvation. So, based on Rand s past experiences and her ideas, she wrote Anthem . The pollen is representative of the earth s renewal from the rainclouds that will be sent back by the spirit of the deceased. Silko frequently refers to a red blanket that the old man is wrapped in for burial (149). The Native American people often leave a cord hanging from the blanket which wraps the body of the deceased and is thought to provide a way for the spirit to be released into the afterlife. All Native American cultures have strong beliefs in life after death, although the means of reaching the next life may vary from tribe to tribe. They traditionally believe that death is a part of a natural cycle in which their spirits are transported back and forth between this world and the spirit world so that they can bring renewal and new life when they return. Most consider this transition to be an honor or privilege since it will ensure the survival of their people. In Native American culture, it is believed that neglect of tribal rituals can result in death and sickness, because the spirit returns without blessings, having been unable to enter the other world. It is a style principally derived from the work of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio, the architecture of classical age, and the Marcus Vitruvius Pollio principles. Neoclassical architecture was the answer to simplifying the excesses of the Rocco style with its simpler symmetrical forms, intense use of columns, and a fondness for blank walls. Neoclassicismcould be found flourishing in every major city in Europe and the United States. Within this movement, two people stand out for their architectural prominence. Some examples of those include: The Bully (a character who intimidates others), White (a color that represents purity and peace), and The Garden (a setting in which fertility and love are symbolized). Snow White is originally running from the Queen, and along the way she fights many obstacles, such as, the Queen s guards/armies. Eventually, she develops her own army and goes to fight Ravenna. Which brings me to the Light and Darkness Archetype: light is a symbol of hope and renewal whereas darkness symbolizes the unknown, ignorance, evil, and despair. Snow White is pure, honored, and gives an example of hope to reestablish her kingdom, while The Queen is anything but honored. The people of the kingdom resent her and the darkness that she displays. It is our natural tendency not to believe in something that we have not seen with our own eyes or experienced it personally. There is a saying, seeing is believing which has led us to a world full of skeptics. We want proof so we are not gullible fools. Skepticism, or scepticism, as it was spelled back in the ancient times, was pondered by philosophers who tried unsuccessfully to figure out the thought process and how we gain knowledge. Philosophers gave deep thought to determine how we arrive at such true beliefs and knowledge of the external world. Three such philosophers were Rene Descartes, David Hume and Christopher Grau. Rene Descartes was a French philosopher in the early 1600 s; David Hume was a Scottish Philosopher in the 1700 s, and Grau an American philosopher Professor born in 1970. The timeline s important because philosophical views have evolved over time. All three men were from different eras, but they each explored, argued, and addressed the topic of skepticism from their philosophical view. This proves that they take the subject of skepticism seriously, just as we should too. There is good reason to believe that a human s knowledge of the external world results from both a posteriori knowledge acquired through sensory experience and a priori knowledge which is innate. For DC to be able to win their case, they must be able to prove that they own a copyright for the Batmobile as it appeared in the 1966 television show and the 1989 movie. They must also prove that Towle s replicas infringed on their copyright and that the creation of them was unauthorized (caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 18). In the appeal court, it is concluded that the Batmobile character is the property of DC and is copyrightable; therefore Towle did infringe upon DC Comics s rights when he produced unauthorized works of the Batmobile. The ruling of the district court is then affirmed (caselaw.find.com, para. 49). • 54. National Institute Of Physical Education DEFENDING IN FOOTBALL Defence as a system, is under rated by many coaches in youth and professional football. According to a survey conducted by students of National Institute of Physical Education in Lleida, Spain, individual and collective defence practice is generally occupying less than 15 % of all training sessions (Wein, 2004). It is not surprising to see that the players who win individual awards at the end of every season is either a goal scoring machine or a midfield maestro. Although there have been few exceptions (Fabio Cannavaro, Franz Beckenbauer, Lev Yashin), the trend of goal scorers or goal makers being valued over goal defenders continues. The game is based on attacking and defending, yet it is difficult to make people understand how significant the art of defending is. A good attack, like a good defence, decreases the number of losses a club racks up, but defence provides a more powerful statistical explanation for why teams lose Anderson and Sally, 2013, p. 119). Between 2001/02 and 2010/2011, the following information was recorded Table 1: Goals (Scored and Conceded) in terms of success and failure Increased Wins Reduced Defeats 10 Goals more scored2.301.76 10 Goals less conceded2.162.35 The above table reveals that goals scored and goals prevented leads to almost the same number of wins in English Football. But in terms of avoiding defeat, the goals that the teams did not concede were worth 33 percent more valuable than the goals they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fact that, death has numerous questions unanswered which leaves us uninformed. We have yet to discover life after death, individually we cannot continue to disregard the opportunity and taking advantage and discarding it.As a country we believe life is a game, however it s the opposite. We do not receive a second chance to achieve exceptional or worse . The real questions are ВЁCan it be our life s already scripted out, every second of our life wrote down, and recorded ? How we know what actually is life ? Can we be in a long never ending dream or maybe a comma ?(Lopez, Cnn)ВЁ These may seem like irrelevant questions, but it has an exceptionally complicated answer which no one can answer with facts. It can be as fictitious as statements stating that all of us dying someday. Rather society likes it or not we are aware of the possibility of death happening to us at any moment . For a variety of people death brings an unknown shiver against our bodies, but for small amount it brings a sense of calming and it is ridden with strength and a feel of accomplishment .However no one knows when exactly the inevitable will approach, but everyone knows it is inescapable. But what makes death seem further real to us and those in denial of it is the lucid pictures of women, men, and children dying. The death penalty may seem like a horrific torture, but did you know that it is available in 30 states? The killing of a criminal is something that is permitted by the government, which is a horrendous thing. There are several negativities with the death penalty;the fear of death force upon others, the ability that criminals are likely to receive redemption for their heinous crime, it is important for Americans to realize the prejudiced factors of the death penalty which should be abolished. Criminals who are on death trial have a very little disadvantage while trying to prove their case. The truth is that rather we accept it or not, taking life of someone is inhumane and ВЁcapital punishmentis legalized murder .ВЁ(Flanagan, UC Berkeley) However this argument is weak ... • 56. Kritios Boy Essay Created sometime around 480 BCE, the marble sculpture Kritios Boy is a significant piece of ancient Greek art. Although it was recovered in a mutilated state over one thousand years after its creation, the sculpture still manages to showcase detail of the human body in a more naturalized form than the similar pieces of art that had came before. This piece of artwork was created at a very busy time in Greek history. Greece was in the midst of a war with Persia, and Athens was a pre Socratic society that was nearing the height of interest in philosophy. With that came the quest to identify mankind s natural identity. The results of this quest was displayed in many pieces of artwork. Kritios Boy was sculpted in the figure of a human male, and was quite distinct from similar pieces of artwork of earlier Greek and Egyptian history. Kouros, from only forty five years prior to Kritios Boy, was much more closely related to the heavily idealized Egyptian sculptures like the Triad of Mycerinas. Those earlier sculptures were similar in that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most noticeably in the way that the statue is standing. Rather than standing in the rigid stance of the Kouros and others before, the figure is demonstrating a contrapposto stance, a more natural and common way of standing that places the body s weight on one side of the body, with the left leg standing straight, and the right one bent and relaxed. Looking up through the torso, one will see that the hips are not aligned, contributing to the more relaxed and natural stance. This showcases the progress made in the quest to represent the natural body, as it is a very common way for humans to stand. Other features, such as proportion and muscle definition, place Kritios more towards the natural side of the styleized naturalized spectrum. Unlike the Kouros of 600 BCE, the Kritios s head and torso correspond well with the rest of the body, and muscle and bone structure appear more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Chippewa Indian Culture The clothing of the Chippewa Indians was oftentimes made of animal skin. The tendons were taken from the animals and used as thread for the clothing that the Chippewa wore. The men wore a long piece of animal skin or cloth between their legs and belted it at the hips. The flaps then covered the front and behind of the men. Leggings were worn by both women and men and sometimes they were covered with fancy fringe. The leggings were created from animal skin and therefore were quite insulating during the cold winters. Women sometimes wore long skirts over the top of their leggings. Women wore a thin blouse, basically like a poncho, that included a cut out at the neck for the head to go through. Fancy aprons were worn on special occasions. The Chippewa men wore headdresses made of stiff porcupine hair. These headdresses closely relate the Chippewa to the Mohawk and Mohicans. Women kept their hair long in length and braided it, with pieces of cloth and shells intermingled in them. Jewelry was something very important in the Chippewa culture. They wore copper bracelets and beaded necklaces. Also important in the Chippewa society were tribal tattoos and face paint. These distinct markings were used in times of war to differentiate between tribes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chippewa believe that they were given a birch tree from the Wenebojo tribe as a gift. The bark of the tree was then split into multiple pieces to use. In the springtime, the bark softens and is more flexible, and the art can begin. The first form of art most common in the Chippewa tribe is called mazinibaganjigan, or birch bark biting. They took a very thin piece of birch bark and bent it in half. Then they used their teeth to bite intricate patterns into the wood. When they were finished, they could unfold the bark and the pattern would be perfectly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
