The Pros And Cons Of Lucid Dreaming
In 1911 the term, Lucid Dreaming was first used by a Dutch psychiatrist named Frederick Van
Eden. He described it as a person sleeping but taking on an active role. Lucid dreaming is actually
defined as a dream where the person dreaming is aware they re dreaming and have somewhat
control over the characters and narrators and their role in the dream. Over the course of this
document the basics of lucid dreamingand the knowledge we have of it will be covered, as well as
the senses it effects and how we perceive it.
Now for the most part everyone knows the five senses; sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. We
all have these, and our perception is how we react to these senses. Some people are more prone
to senses than others and that is what makes all of us unique. Now I know what you re thinking;
How can you have any of these senses in reality if you re dreaming? and that s a fair question. But
lucid dreaming isn t just dreaming it s taking control of your ... Show more content on

Forensic Analysis Paper
Abstract The contemporary Smartphone has built in Instant Messaging (IM) applications like
Whatsapp, Line, etc, which facilitates users to send and receive chat messages, video, audio and
images via Smartphone in real time. Apart from benefits offered by Instant Messaging (IM), it
also suffers from few vulnerabilities which provide ground for attackers to launch attacks such as
Man in the middle attack (MITM). These applications leave traces and Evidences in phone. In
order to identify crimes, it is essentially required to retrieve these traces and evidences by using
appropriate forensic technique. The works carried out in this field deals with forensic analysis of
Whatsapp, viber, ChatOn etc but not with forensic analysis of Line messenger, even though number
of users of Line messenger is more than 500 million. In this work, evidence subjected to Line
messenger has been extracted from iPhonerunning ios 6. This paper presents evidence gathering of
Line IM application which proves beneficial for forensic analysts and practitioners as it assists
them in course of mapping and locating digital evidences of Line messenger on iPhone.

He Was White, I Was Black Essay
Although I can articulate it better now, I knew when I was ten years old why Carrot Wilkins
and I would not always be as close as we were then. He was white, and I was black. I lived on the
outskirts of Winston Salem, North Carolina in a predominately black neighborhood. Carrot lived
about a fifteen minutes walk away in a largely white rural town called Walkertown. We met in the
third grade on a school bus that took us both to Thomas Cash Elementary School. Being country
boys at heart, we shareda lot of interests. We fished together a lot hunted squirrels, and played
Robin Hood in the woods that separated our neighborhoods. But like kittens and puppies, we were
being raised with very different perspectives of the world. And we... Show more content on

They were smart, strong, handsome, and noble. And, until this incident, imagining that I was one of
them had given me the feeling that I could do just about anything.
I did come up with an answer to Carrot s Aqua Man. I decided I would be Magic Johnson. This,
of course, met with immediate protest because Magic Johnson was not a superhero. Carrot
demanded that I choose a real superhero. I decided I didn t want to play the game anymore, that I
would never play the game again. We both went home, angry. Carrot didn t understand why, after I
had played the game dozens of times with no problem, I had decided that I would never play again.
And neither one of us understood why the people who created the superheroes made them all white.
The only thing I knew was that Carrot would be able to continue pretending he was a superhero,
but I never could again.
Today, I am able to articulate the difference I perceived between myself and Carrot. That
difference was based on the luxury of unlimited aspirations. This luxury allows a white child in
America to believe that this is his land. And in his land he is taught that limitations are set only by
his own work ethic. If he gives life his best shot, the system that distributes the spoils of life will
reward him. This is called the American Dream.

The Purpose Of An OSI Model
What is the purpose of an OSI model? The purpose of an OSI model is a standard that was created
for networks to share information. This standard governs the way information is transmitted over
different networks. The model also sets guidelines to those in the manufacturing industry that create
and develop software and hardware that are all compatible with each other.
This paper will discuss and describe the 7 layers of the Open System Interconnection model (OSI
model) and the layers of the Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol model (TCP/IP model),
and explain the similarities and differences of each model.
The 7 layers of the OSI model consist of: The Application layer (layer 7), The Presentation layer
(layer 6), The Session ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Transport layer
Transport layers exist in both TCP/IP and OSI model. Even though both models have Transport
layers they differ. The TCP/IP model consist of two standard transport protocols: Transmission
Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP). TCP uses a reliable data stream
protocol which is connected oriented and UDP uses a unreliable data stream protocol which is
connectionless oriented.
The Internet layer
The Internet layer is a group of protocols and specifications that are used to transport packets from
the host across a network, the host specified by a network address (IP address)
The Link layer
The lower level layer of the TCP/IP model, this layer is used by a suite of protocols for the Internet
. This is used to connect hosts or nodes to a network. This layer is compared to the Data Link
layer and Physical layer of the OSI model.
TCP/IP Application Layer VS OSI Application, Presentation and Session layer.
The similarities in both models are comparable but different at the same time. All though they
exist in both, the approach each uses to construct applications is different. In the OSI model the
Application layer, Presentation layer and Session layer correspond to the Application layer of the
TCP/IP model. They somewhat do the same job but use different protocols, TCP/IP uses: FTP,
SMTP, TELNET, DNS and SNMP where the OSI model uses: FTAM, VT, MHS,

How Does Leo Tolstoy Use Direct Characterization In Anna...
Use Of Indirect Characterization in Anna Karenina
Russian author, Leo Tolstoy, is famous for his novels, among them, Anna Karenina . It is said that
Tolstoy reaches unsurpassed perfection in the realistic art of the novel with Anna Karenina .
In the novel Anna Karenina , Tolstoyleads the reader through Anna Arkadyevna Karenin s life and
all the people who surround her. The reader follows Anna as she sorts out a fightbetween her
brother Stepan and his wife Dolly. Next the reader finds themselves trailing Anna as she dances
away from a Moscow ball with Count Vronsky s heart. The path this novel takes then forks as the
reader begins to follow Levin and his pursuit of the young and beautiful Kitty who was once a

Instead of being hurt, denying, defending himself, begging for forgiveness, instead of remaining
indifferent even . . . his face utterly involuntary assumed its habitual, good humored, and therefore
idiotic smile (5 6). Even though Stepan s in a bad situation, his nature forces him to smile.
The reader becomes more aware of Stepan s good natured personality when he shows kindness to
his friend Levin after he approaches Stepan at a political council meeting. Well lets go into my
room, said Stepan Arkadyevitch who knew his friends sensitive and irritable shyness (29).
With the character Levin, Tolstoy once again cleverly uses indirect characterization to allow the
reader to look inside of him. When Levin falls into the story, he has just been caught sneaking
into the political council without permission. Usually, men of good character would not need, or
simply would not want to be sneaking into places where their presence is not invited. Levin is
also a large man who is strongly built. The stereo type of large men is that they are confident,
loud, and even boisterous. As the reader learns of Levin s love for Kitty, their opinion soon
changes. Indirect characterization shows that Levin is actually a humble man. When thinking of
Kitty and her feelings for him, Levin s thoughts said, He heard that women often did care for ugly
and ordinary men, but he did not believe it (39). Levin believes

The purpose of this report is to provide an insight into the monetary profits made from legal and
illegal drugs and truly how profitable are these industries. Such areas as gangs, pharmacies, and
governmental agencies will be viewed for the money made from the drugs they deal with.
Questions such as: who do private companies make their money off of and how much is being
made? Should the government support the taxation of legal as well as controversial illegal drugs?
What can be done to stop the drugs or control the drugpusher s profit? Finally, should the United

Drug Cartels gauge their actions based on this criteria. This paper explores the history of drugs,
both legal and illegal, the profitability of both the legal industry and illegal enterprise. It will also
look at what is being done to combat the illegal aspect of the issue as well what is being done to
keep the margins up and the coffers filled. Drugs, illegal and legal, have been a part of the history
of the United States for almost three centuries. From the time when the 19th century began,
Americans went from alcohol as the preferred mood altering substance to a new realm of addiction.
During this time Americans were acquaint with wonder drugs such as morphine, heroin, and
cocaine. Since that discovery, our society has confronted the problems of drug abuse and addiction
(DEA, 2015). Once the 20th century began, the United States, contending with its first drug
epidemic in the country s short history, progressively started effective limitations to combat the
epidemic. In the United States through internal law enforcement they began to fight the issue
domestically. Through cooperation and sometimes without the United States began spearheading
a world crusade to limit opium and coca crops (DEA, 2015). By World War II, the use of drugs in
America had declined significantly enough for it to no longer be considered a significant issue. It
was then seen as a borderline social problem and pushed

Gospel of Matthew Essay example
The Teachings of Matthew
The Gospel according to Matthew is the first book in the New Testament, and also serves as a
bridge between the Old Testament and the New Testament. The gospel tells us of Jesus and his
teachings. It is believed that the Gospel originated with Matthew, one of Jesus disciples, and it
circulated anonymously (Harris 149). The message in this gospel was compiled to minister to a
Jewish and Jewish Christian community when tensions between early Christians and postwar
Jewish leaders aggravated bitter controversy. The Gospel of Matthew was written as an
encouragement to the Greek speaking Jewish Christians and Gentiles who were, at least partly,
Torah observant during the 80s C.E. probably at Antioch in Syria... Show more content on

(Isaiah 53:4)
In all his teaching to the crowds Jesus spoke in parables; in fact he never spoke to them without a
parable. This was to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah: I will open my mouth in parables;
I will utter things kept secret since the world was made.
(Matthew 13:34 34)Mark my teaching, O my people, listen to the words I am to speak.
I will tell you a story with a meaning,
I will expound the riddle of things past, things that we have heard and know,
And our fathers have repeated to us.
(Psalms 78:2)
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: The virgin will be with
child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel , which means #8722; #8722;
God with us .
(Matthew 1:22 23)Therefore, the lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child
and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
(Isaiah 7:14)
(Harris 149 and 150) Matthew s teachings in the scripture insisted that Christians were to fast,
pray regularly, give charitable, and practice formal sacrifices (Matthew 6:16 18, 6:5 6, 6:2, and
5:23). Equally as

Military Trade Patterns
U.S. Military Engagement And Trade Patterns. Why is trade and war happening at the same
time? There are many theories that try to explain this events happening at the same time and
place. Although, these are all theories the most compelling one is aggressive negotiation. This
theory explains the trading during war exported from the U.S to all over the world. It explains in
detail why trade was going on during war, benefits to our nation with the export and import of
textiles , it helped U.S troops defeat the Barbary pirates. Trade during war has been happening
since early times dating way back in history. This happens because nations often disagree on
trading, also the war between Barbary pirates. Due to this disagreement and inconvenient hold back
due to the pirates, both nations become rigid yet still want trade. Next, both nations start forcing

Yet , and of course, one nation gets greater benefits than the rest. U.S is a big and rich nation big
part of it is due to trading. As it can be seen, U.S is in war while trading, yet pirate attacks were a
huge setback for America costing te 20% of America s budget which was a huge amount of
money to spend on the pirates. In Fact most of their trading occurs while being in war. This is
because the U.S always wants to be the nation that benefits the most. In the long run this desire
creates problems and leads to issues among nations involved in this bias trade. Above all, this
taboo event benefits the U.S army greatly. While U.S trading with nations occurs, the U.S gets an
advantage by controlling some of the trading routes and supplies affecting that particular nation
causing weakness in their army due to attacks from Barbary pirates. Amongst other strategies,
trading during war is a great advantage and one of many reasons trading occurs while war is in
progress. Furthermore, at some point trading agreements do not get settled as desired leading to

Eugenics, A New Science Of Heredity
Eugenics, a new science of heredity was first introduced in 1883, brought about to address the
budding fears and threats to the purity and fitness of the British race. A fear brought upon by
events such as the Boer War in 1899, forced Britain to question the spectrum of degeneracy within
the population and resolve the issue of bringing the British and White raceback to strength, unified
and fit. Sir Francis Galtondefined eugenicsas the study of agencies under social control that may
improve or impair the racial qualities of future generations either physically or mentally . It was
believed that differences in mental, moral and physical traits between individuals, as well as races

University Students. At this time, America provided a clear example of how race greatly impacted
on the eugenics movement. The United States came across a lot more racialist than Britain; the key
racial targets being the American Negro and various portions of white races emigrating from
Eastern Europe. In a much more patriotic and chauvinistic country this threatened to overwhelm the
superior white race, forcing the development of new immigration and sterilisation laws.
Britain was just as supportive in believing in the dominant White race, however was never as
extreme in it racialism. British Society was ethnically more or less homogenous and therefore it
had not experienced the considerable amount of non white emigrating people than it did in later
decades. . The movement in Britain was marked by variations on existing racial themes, instead of
new compositions. Racism figured a lot less distinctly and was of less importance to British
Eugenics, identifying the new science as primarily class based, focusing more on the biological
fitness of the different classes. Consequently, one could argue that race wasn t awfully important to
the movement, but race figured much more markedly to the eugenics movement in other countries

Communication Theories And Concepts Of The Film Outsourced
When talking about communication, it is essential to understand what this term really means. There
are many different definitions pertaining to this word, but none of them can be considered right or
wrong. On the other hand, Samovar and Porter suggested one of the most basic and influential
definitions: communicationis the ability to share our ideas and feelings (Samovar and Porter,
1995, p. 27). Mr. Todd s journey in the film Outsourced greatly reflects on a wide variety of
communication theories and concepts, as well as my personal experience in the same country,
India. When referring to communication, it is fundamental to grasp The Shannon and Weaver
Model that was invented in 1947. This is basically an exemplary of a few stages in which the
information source called sender, sends the information to its destination, the receiver.
Information obviously does not get to the receiver magically; this is why this model was
invented. It is a way to illustrate how a person shares beliefs and ideas, and how they reach their
destination. For example, at the beginning of the movie Outsourced, the employee called Todd
Anderson asks his boss named Dave: Is this gonna take a while? when he was called to privately
speak inside his office (Jeffcoat, 2006, 1:26). In this case, the sender is Dave who sends the
information through a place called channel, which then gets decoded before reaching its
destination, Todd. On the other hand, it is also important to underline the fact that

Investigating The Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue...
Whether it be elite athletes or weekend warriors, all athletes have experienced muscle tightness that
impacted their athletic performance. I wanted to investigate whether instrument assisted soft tissue
mobilization (IASTM) was more effective at reducing hamstring muscle tightness than foam rolling
in high school athletes. Most high school athletes work very hard at practice and in the weight
room and therefore, hamstring muscle tightness is very common. I chose the high school
population because I want to work in the high school setting following graduation. I wanted to
investigate if IASTM techniques could be more effective in the high school to reduce lower
extremity muscle soreness than foam rolling. The case series by Baker, Nasypany, Seegmiller
Baker (2013) investigated the effectiveness of IASTM for treatment of hamstring tissue
extensibility dysfunction. Tissue extensibility dysfunction (TED) includes ROM limitations during
standing flexion test, sit and reach test, passive and active straight leg hip flexion and 90/90 active
knee extension test (Baker et.all). The participants in this study consisted of three collegiate athletes
who can had long lasting tightness in the lower extremities, and exhibited hamstring TED. All
patients had baseline active range motion measurements taken. The participants recorded their pain
during activity using the numerical rating scale (NRS) during the initial examination. The
participants received three IASTM treatments a week

History And Personality Of The Supreme Court
According to Toobin, the history and personality of the Supreme Court has also been affected by
continual topics in recurrent cases as well as recurring constitutional themes. These continually
topics are seen in previous cases that have made reappearances in other cases as they are applied
to modern times and cases. As seen in the provision of the historic rulings in the 1954 Brown v.
Board of Education and the 1964 Reynolds v. Sims that established the rule of one person, one
vote and equal protection played a large role in the 1996 case of Romer v. Evans that ruled that
Colorado could not keep its cities from passing laws to protect homosexuals (172). Even after
over three decades, the decision in Brown and Reynolds greatly influenced the outcome of Romer
as it gave insight into rights to all individuals. Laws regarding blacks also continued to recur in
the Court system, especially after the civil rights movement of the 1960s and the laws regarding
racial classifications. At this time, the Jim Crow laws were struck down and the justices examined
law with strict scrutiny. Later in the 1970s, the government started programs to help blacks and
minorities with affirmative action initiatives. However, the issue of Richmond v. Croson and the
so called Equal Protection Clause violation of a lack of minority subcontractors of J.A. Croson
Company led to the debate of reverse discrimination and the dependence of the clause to race and
classification (208 209). Consequently,

Aloe Vera, And The Vitality Of Youth Essay
Aloe Vera, also called simply Aloe, is a flowering, cactus like succulent plan that thrives in dry,
hot climates, and is believed to be at least 6,000 years old. Kumari is the Ayurvedic name for
aloe, and is translated as the vitality of youth (Chopra Simon, 2000, p. 66). Native to Africa (
Aloe, 2016), it is grown in tropical and sub tropical areas ( Aloe UMMC, 2015). Different parts
of the plant have different uses. The leaves, which are thick (cactus like) and fibrous, have three
layers. The central pulp contains gel that is extracted for use both topical and internal use (Chopra
Simon, 2000, p. 67). The fibrous part of the plant is used to make a laxative from the Aloe latex
that is extracted. Some products are made using the whole crushed leaf, and contain the latex and
gel ( Aloe WebMD, 2016).
The gel made from Aloe Vera, either pure or as part of a mixture, is commonly used in moisturizing
products for skin, is often included in sun block/sunscreen ( Aloe, 2016).
It also has a wide variety of medicinal purposes, including burns, wounds, skin irritations, and
constipation both historically and currently. Recently, it has not been recommended for use as a
laxative. Today, Aloe is still one of the most common herbs used for a multitude of purposes ( Aloe
UMMC, 2015, para. 1). It is also considered as a tonic for the liver (Lad, 2009, p. 130).

Race and ethnicity are two completely different things. In my opinion race is not even an actual
thing. The only way I could see race as something such as, the human race . But trying to label
someone by what they look like or where they come from is definitely a part of ethnic
backgrounds. Some factors that contributed to the success of change in Civil Rights legislation
were that nonviolent protests as well as civil disobedience were used to bring about change in
the society. The government created initiatives like the Civil Rights Act of 1968 and the Voting

The Trickster in Anne Rice s Interview with the Vampire...
The Trickster in Anne Rice s Interview with the Vampire
Vampires today, particularly after Anne Rice s five book series, the Vampire Chronicles, are
portrayed in quite a different light than the vampires of ages past. Gone is the garlic and cross that
offers protection, gone is the vampire s fear of all light and gone is their distant, in human nature.
(Whyte 2) In fact, most vampires are portrayed as both beast and man, struggling to retain their
humanity as the lust for blood seems to never diminish and eternal as they are, their inner conflict
spans to infinity. This duplicity is highly reminiscent of the paradoxical nature of the trickster
archetype. Tricksters embrace creation just as easily as they revel in ... Show more content on

Traditional scholarship differentiates any tangible entity that fulfills the trickster criteria as clown.
Trickster research is confusing at this point because it calls tricksters mythic entities found in
folklore and in legends. Therefore, a trickster is more than just an idea; it may also be a mythic
creature. (Kim ix) For the purposes of this essay I will refer to the trickster first as an idea, as a set
of elements and then exemplify these characteristics using mythic entities as a form of illustration.
Tricksters are usually associated with a host of negative elements such as stubbornness,
chicanery, duplicity, cruelty, greed, gluttony, and avarice; (Musinsky) although their unifying
elements are selfishness, egoism and self centeredness. As mentioned before tricksters are
amoral, or, to use a Nietzsche s phrase: beyond good and evil. According to Radini, a well known
trickster scholar, the trickster possesses no values, moral or social, is at the mercy of his passions
and appetites, yet through his actions all values come into being. (xxiii) Almost all tricksters are
megalomaniacs, a trait that is not necessarily negative, according to the aforementioned Nietschean
view of the world. Every living thing seeks to discharge its strength life itself is will to power.
This innate characteristic of life is of absolute value and acceptance of the will to power in all its
sublime manifestations, both beautiful and

History serves a purpose. By extension, environmental or natural history, some would they are
natural history is history, has a purpose. I believe that Paul Sutter articulated it best when he said
environmental history should lend value to the world in which they are entangled, both to narrate
the past and to inform action in the present. How one can accomplish this is a difficult question;
William Cronan gives a good mechanism, when he says environmental history is at least as
important for the way it asks and answers questions by analogy, metaphor, and parable and the
search to discover their meanings than for any specific problems it may actually solve. In this way,
Diana Davis Resurrecting the Granary of Rome: Environmental History and French Colonial
Expansion in North Africa and David Blackbourn s The Conquest of Nature: Water, Landscape, and
the Making of Modern Germany best serve to educate about the past and to inform the present.
Diana Davis shows her readers that the misappropriation and misuse of knowledge relating to the
natural world were used to justify colonization and to declensionist policies, Diana Davis plainly
says her purpose: to stop the use of the destructive declensionist narrative, that postcolonial states
have embraced David Blackbourn on the other hand creates a timeline from the unification of
Germany to the Nazis to his present day Germany and he connects multiple narratives to connect

King Oedipus The King Essay
Sophocles play, King Oedipus is a perfect example of a clear Aristotelian tragedy. In fact, it was so
perfect that Aristotle himself considered it the ideal tragedy. An Aristotelian tragedy is serious
action in a dramatic text that portrays incidents arousing pity and fear, causing catharsis in the
audience. Aspects of a tragedyinclude a tragic hero, who is neither good nor bad, who has a
hamartia which causes him to ignore a divine warning or violate a moral law. A common
example of hamartia is hubris, or pride. A tragedy is also often accompanied by a peripeteia,
which is when the tragic hero has a sudden change of fortune. The tragic hero moves us to pity and
also to fear, by showing us how what happened to him could happen to us as... Show more content

However, he also shows that other characters also have some of these tragic qualities and that
they contribute to Oedipus downfall. Firstly, Sophocles uses irony when Oedipus says, It is I
whom no stranger, no citizen must take to his house; I to whom none may speak; on me is the
curse that none but i have laid. This is an example of irony because it shows that Oedipus sets all
these curses for anyone who killed Laius, yet he will end up being ensnared by these curses,
which he himself laid. This line references when Oedipus explains about how he kills all of the
people in Laius party save one, who became a shepherd, and it evokes our terror by showing how
Oedipus is capable of such an extreme act of violence, and this shows Oedipus as a tragic hero.
Similarly, Sophocles uses irony when Jocasta says, Where are you now, divine prognostications?
which shows how Oedipus is not the only culprit in this tragedy, and that Jocasta ignores a divine
warning, which helps to show the play as an Aristotelian play, and that these characters who are not
quite tragic heroes do contribute to Oedipus downfall. Lastly, Sophocles uses high modality when
Oedipus says, I must unlock the secret of my birth. He uses the high modality to show Oedipus
final hamartia: that he sought the truth until it was too late, and this causes his peripeteia, which

Themes In To Build A Fire By Jack London
Authors disclose important information about the themes present in their story, but often do not
directly state it. In the story To Build A Fire by Jack London, the author creates an endearing and
suspenseful story about a man travelling alone in the frigid and snowy Yukon valley, in search of
gold. The only that was with him were his little clothes and belongings, and a dog he did not know
much about. While the temperature of the Yukonwere certainly extremely dangerous to be out in,
the man went on his journey anyway, and inevitably landed himself in death. Through the narration
of his conquest, the reader can see that by lacking common sense and instinct, one can create many
problems for oneself. Throughout London s story, the reader can... Show more content on

As he trudged through the snow with the native dog at his heels, his thoughts were not occupied by
the danger that he was putting himself into. The temperatures in the Yukon were about 75 degrees
below zero, but that had no effect on the man, and did not phase him. The narrator states, He was
quick and ready in the things of life, but only in the things, and not in their meaning (London 1).
While the man could act fast when in dire situations, he lacked a common sense and natural human
instinct that could prevent him from landing in those situations in the first place. This quality
certainly took its toll on the man later in his journey, when his lack of realization of the cold
finally caught up to him. The narrator also stated, Nor did he think about man s general weakness,
able to live only within narrow limits of heat and cold (London 1). Once again, the unwise man did
not take into account the frigid and life threatening temperatures he was facing. Humans obviously
cannot survive in conditions like those, but the man, being ignorant, ignored this and went on with
his journey anyway. The man definitely showed his foolishness because he was so careless about his

Safety Enforcement By Police And The Fire Department Essay
There are two images. Imagine you are walking down the sidewalk next to your home, and you
see a small boy riding a bike. The child accidentally hits a curb with the bike, and falls over,
scraping his head on the concrete. You see a nasty gash, and quickly help the boy stop the bleeding
while determining if it is a life threatening injury. Depending on what you find, you might call for
an ambulance, or if it is not threatening, you might just walk the boy back to his home and help him
back to his parents. In either case, you have demonstrated social responsibility. However, there is
another image. Imagine you are busy filing papers in your office. You happen to glance at your
phone and see a notification from your news source reporting a wildfire outbreak about 50 miles
away. In this case, all you can do is remain updated as to what is happening, and be vigilant to
obey safety enforcement by police and the fire department. That is the normal apex of an
individual s social responsibility in such a circumstance. On the other hand, professional privilege
has a significant role in this, especially in the context of publicrelations. It is the expectation of
public relationsand media sources to report the happenings with accuracy and promptness. By
looking more closely at professional privilege and social responsibility in context of public

Should People Have The Right To Call Rescue Services To...
Do you think climbers have the right to call rescue services to come save them? I think they do

why people should have rescue services is that everyone has the right to call 911, people has the
right to call for help, and the lives that could be saved by doing so.
Everyone has the right to call 911, why couldn t they call for assistance. Since everyone can call

Robert Ebert s The Wizard Of Oz
According to Reel News Daily, on average, there are 57 movies released every month or 684
movies each year. That s way more movies than the average person watches in a given year. So,
how do we decide what movies to go watch and what not to watch? What s pleasing and what s
appalling? Fortunately, we have critics who watch most of these movies and write reviews to
help narrow down what movies to and not to view. One of these critics is Robert Ebert. Robert
Ebert is an honorable critic to base judgements off of because he does an exceptional job
summarizing the plot, stating his personal opinions, and speaking about the actors/director s roles
in the film. Summarizing the plot of a film without giving away too many details and spoiling the
story is one of the most important part about writing a movie review. Robert Elbert has this skill
mastered as he did an exceptional job summarizing the movie the wizard of oz. He did it well while
still making the audience curious enough to go and watch the film. Elbert keeps summaries of
specific events very brief and concise, ...The Wizard sends them on a mission to get the Wicked
Witch s broom, and it is not insignificant that the key to Dorothy s return to Kansas is the pair of
ruby slippers. This sentence does an excellent job of summing up what is towards the end of the
movie. This section of the film consumes a total of fifteen minutes but Elbert sums it up completely
with one sentence. This is a sign of an excellent writer and

Identify the functions of a CSU and DSU. How are they used in a corporate environment?
I like to think of a CSU/DSU(Channel service and Data service unit) as something similar to a
modem. In general Dial up or DSL service a modem is required to convert digital signals to analog
and vice versa. A CSU/DSU acts in the same way. The CSU/DSU converts the digitaldata frames
that local area networks (LAN) uses into a frame a wide area network (WAN) uses and just like the
modem it will change the frames back to go the other direction across the network.
Within the cooperate environment CSU/DSU are very useful. Most large corporations have moved

ISDN also has the ability to lower the internet speed when an incoming call comes in to ensure the
quality of the call is unaffected by you surfing at the same time. Finally with ISDN telephone calls
actually become clearer then use of just the telephone line. This is due to the fact that the ISDN

What are some of the greatest security risks to a WAN? Provide an example of one risk and

In my opinion the biggest security risk in a WAN is something that no one really ever thinks
about and is the one exploited more then all of the other risks combined. That risk is the user.
The user on the network is the greatest risk a network could undergo. I have always been told in
my security department that your network is only as safe as the weakest user on the network.
The user is the easiest part of the network to exploit because it is easier to trick a person then it is
to trick a machine. For example phishing scams from emails or WebPages steal user credentials
every day. People believe if it has your networks logo on it that it is from your network. Another
easy exploit on the user is Social Engineering. I have seen this actually happen in my

Hispanic Family Structures
In today s world, we have families that consist of different family structures. For instance, before

a typical family household consisting of a mom, dad and child. Over time, families have been
exposed to different familystructures. Although it is still common to see your traditional nuclear

households, allows one to become independent and free of their own choices. Although societal

Analysis Of George Washington s Farewell Address
The document, George Washington, Farewell Address, was a letter written to the citizens of the
United States of America. It allowed outgoing President Washington to give advice on how to
maintain the nation after he was gone. He advised our politicians to act in good faith towards all
nations and to make an effort to keep peace with other countries. He cautioned to remain
connected to God, maintain high moral principles and to set a good example, one that is guided
by a sense of justice and kindness. He also advised that favoritism, not be shown toward or
hostilities against other nations as this would cloud our judgment. He told us to remain neutral
and detached since that would keep the country from being dragged into a fight. Having favorite
nations could pull the nation into a war that it never wanted to be involved in. A nation that has a
devoted attachment to another could find itself involved without merit in their affairs and might
become controlled involuntarily by their actions. He implored the people of this nation to not

Analysis Of The Martin Guerre Scandal
For historians, very little is known about the detailed lives of peasants in the sixteenth century
France, in particular, their emotions, motives, and how they characterize relationships. The most
common assumption for the life of peasant was an uneducation, monotonous lifestyle with little
interesting factors. Fortunately for social historians, a strange occurrence happened in the small
village of Artigat in the Pyrenees of Southwestern France and was perfectly documented and
preserved by a judge of the court, Jean de Coras. While the court case and storyline was very
detailed by Coras, there were many gaps in the characters motivations and reasonings behind their

In this statement, Davis implicates that the lives of the three commoners and the events that
occurred can be very similar to that of the elite class in France at the time. Right from the start,
Davis establishes her motives which discloses the notion that she is writing this story with her
motive in mind instead of looking into historical facts and considering all aspects of the event.
Her entire narrative fills the gaps with opinions solely placed to persuade readers of Davis own
viewpoints, creating a skeptical review of the rest of her writing.
One of Davis major accusations in the Martin Guerre record is Bertrand s role in the imposter s
successful foolery of the town. Davis believes that much like the upper class, the peasants only
seek out activities that benefit their own self interest. Davis supports this idea by making the
claim that Bertrande was knowledgeable of the crime of impersonation and decided to partake
in it. She quotes: She must have realized the difference; there is no mistaking the touch of a man

opportunity to explore concepts. Meld life experiences with curiosities to create new situations. I
strongly believe that as you write more and more about a character, that they begin to reveal more
and more about themselves, from the standpoint that two unintentionally related traits may
organically foster another by extension of themselves, in this way the characters are revealing parts
of themselves to the author before the author reveals them to the reader.

So much is happening in our world that would make one wonder how to survive in this world,
Johnson says, People need to be good to each other and the animals we share this planet with,

With Johnson s life experiences and style of writing, it s no wonder that a good story with a criss

Cholangiocarcinoma Case Study
Introduction (Incidence, risk factors, classification, histological subtypes)
Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare malignancy that originates from the epithelial lining of the biliary
ductal system. It constitutes around 3% of all gastrointestinal malignancies. There is a high
variability in the estimated incidence of cholangiocarcinoma across the world, with the highest age
standardized incidence rate in the northeast provinces of Thailand (113 per 100,00 person year) as
compared to the western hemisphere (0.5 1.5 per 100,00 person year). Cholangiocarcinomas are
resistant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy and surgical resection constitutes the definitive form of

Why Do Video Games Do Not Incite Violence
Video games do not incite violence because their contents are incomparable to reality. Although
gaming technology is constantly evolving, their basic setup remains the same: a controller to input
commands, speakers to resonate sound, a screen to project graphics, and a central unit to process
information, games, and link all the components together. For us, these elements mainly appeal to
only two primary senses: sight and sound. In the real world, we involve all five of our senses to
monitor our surroundings, but for games, we are limited to two. While taste and smell can be
considered insignificant for surveying environments, touch is inexorable. In any general first

According to Forbes, video games author and political blogger Eric Kain, More than half of
mass shooters over the last 30 years had mental health problems (Kain). He also imparted that
people between ages 18 and 25 also tend to report the highest rates of mental health issues
(Kain). In most cases, it is not the video games that culprits played to cause their violent
behaviors, but rather their mental condition. For the rest of the cases, however, the quick
condemnation on video games possessed other factors that contributed to violence. Author
Karen Sternheimer detailed, Poverty, neighborhood instability, unemployment, and even family
violence fall by the wayside in most of these studies (Sternheimer). Seldom do cases truly narrow
causes down to video games, if any at all. While it is easy to accuse, we shouldn t be quick to
blame video games for offenders who indulged in them and later exhibited violence when a
myriad of other plausible causes exist as well. Video games may appear to be the easiest
explanation for violence, but are we answering the correct question with it? Is it possible that we
are only using video games because it is the quickest solution for a much broader social
complication? Morality says no: violent video games portray felonious acts and brutality, so it is
obvious that those who play it are more likely to manifest

qualities have to be present, such as recognition, achievement, responsibility, and organization s
advancement. Herzberg had added to the list some physical aspects including salary, physical
working conditions, benefits, technical quality supervision, challenging, and company policy
(Miller, 2006, p. 32 33). The two characteristics sets must be present for employees to be happy,
satisfied and deliver their best, their absence could interpret to workers who are unsatisfied,
unhappy and unproductive, as it is in Initech. A good example is when Peter tells Bobs If I work
my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don t see another dime. So where s the motivation?
Because staff at Initech do not obtain worthwhile benefits or even see the proceeds of their hard
work, which would act as motivator, they fail to feel their achievement or recognition. Moreover,
the employees at Initech do not have means for self actualization; they are neither encouraged nor
allowed to realize their full potential, which Spitzer (1995, p. 7) argued could be fatal to the future
of an organization. He argued that providing the staff with an environment of encouragement will
make them realize their full potential consequently increasing the organization s production.
Sincerity of motivation is very fundamental as far as

Analysis Of The World Of Doublespeak By William Lutz
In the essay The World of Doublespeak , by William Lutz, the author gives the reader four different
questions to help one identify doublespeak. According to Lutz these questions are, who is saying
what to whom, under what conditions and circumstances, with what intent, and with what results?
(par. 4). These questions help to distinguish between truthful language and doublespeak. The first
question, who is saying what to whom? focuses on the relationship between the two people. The
chance of doublespeak being present increases greatly when the two people have a negative, or
passive aggressive, relationship. The next question, under what conditions and circumstances?
focuses on the events of what is going on. This question shows up prominently in events such as
political rallies and debates. The third question, with what intent focuses on the underlying goal of
the statement. This question raises the most suspicion, as it makes one really think about whether
there is doublespeak present. The final question what results ties in on the intent. The outcome of
the doublespeak will be different that that of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains that the cause of doublespeak is usually to evade making a problematic situation sound
very bad. For example, in 1984 the US State Department announced it would no longer use the word
killing in its annual report on the status of human rights around the world (par. 7). By doing this, it
eludes the readers into believing that the US does not have relations with nations that kill people.
Although the US continues to have relations with nations that kill people, the statements refer to
those nations as those that have unlawful or arbitrary deprivation of life happening instead of
murder. This effect results in tricking the people into false assumptions of the US s relations with

Medical Malpractice Cases
Medical malpractice cases are notoriously complex, requiring an expert opinion on every phase of
your treatment. It may be difficult even to determine whether you have a valid case without the
assistance of doctors and an experienced malpractice attorney. Reynolds, Horne Survant, a law
firm with a 40 year history of helping Macon, GA, residents collect compensation for their injuries,
suggests speaking to a lawyer if you suspect you ve received substandard medical care.
No doctor, hospital, or health care worker is perfect, and even the most highly trained,
conscientious medical professional can make a mistake. However, the basis of a medical
malpractice claim is not whether a mistake was made but whether the care you received lived up to
the established standard for your condition. To make a claim, your malpractice attorney must
demonstrate that reasonable professionals in the same field would have acted differently and
deviations from that standard resulted in physical harm.

Sexual Relationships And Relationships
Relationships could be defined in different meanings, as far as friendships, romantic, and sexual

Romantic relationships are the norm during the adolescent years (Erikson 1950; Zimmer Gembeck

The Saskatchewan River Watershed Flows
Introduction
The Saskatchewan River watershed is a major river in Canada which flows eastward across
Saskatchewan and Manitoba into Lake Winnipeg. It is a source of water to humans and livestock
(Partners for the Saskatchewan River Basin, 2009). The watershed has a distinctive delta which is
the largest inland freshwater delta in North America. The delta begins at the west of the
Saskatchewan Manitoba boundary (Partners for the Saskatchewan River Basin, 2009).
The South Saskatchewan River watershed flows from the Northern shores of Lake Diefenbaker out
of the Gardiner Dam towards the City of Saskatoon. It continues north to eventually become the
Saskatchewan River (shown in Figure 1 below). The North Saskatchewan River watershed flows
eastwards across Edmonton, Alberta and joins with the South Saskatchewan River watershed to
form the Saskatchewan River watershed. These watersheds provide many recreational attractions
such as fishing and opportunities for sightseeing, canoeing, fishing and hiking. The Saskatchewan
River watershed begins at the confluence of the North and South Saskatchewan River watersheds.
From this point, the Saskatchewan River watershed passes through the Saskatchewan Delta, into
Lake Winnipeg, which eventually drains into Hudson Bay through the Nelson River. Figure 1
shows a map of the South Saskatchewan, North Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan River
Watersheds.

Vengeance In Shakespeare
Vengeance is one of the most powerful motivators in the world. The desire for revenge drives
people to do foolish things based on what they think is justified. Virtue is another powerful
motivator, but when faced with the choice, most humans, including Prospero, would choose
vengeance. Shakespeare presents vengeance as a stronger influence than virtue in his play. The
Tempest. In Shakespeare s The Tempest, the main character, Prospero is a very vengeful man, but
he does not start out that way. His brother, Antonio, forced him out of his homeland without any
resources, leaving him stranded with his three year old daughter. An event that traumatic can
corrupt even the kindest human being. Prospero s need for justice compels him to wreck his
brother s ship and strand him on the island. He tortures the ship members with the thought of never
returning home and the idea that some of their friends and family are dead. What his brother did to
him turned Prospero into a plotting and an evil man, not the man who spent all of his... Show more

Prospero did not convince Alonso that his son had died because Prospero wanted to forgive him.
He did this because he wanted Alonso to feel the pain that he had felt when he was left stranded
with his three year old daughter. Prospero wanted to be justified, and he wanted the men who had

human actions, but it is clear to see, through Shakespeare s work, that vengeance is the strongest.

He described it as a person sleeping but taking on an active role. Lucid dreaming is actually defined as a dream where the person dreaming is aware they re dreaming and have somewhat control over the characters and narrators and their role in the dream. Over the course of this document the basics of lucid dreamingand the knowledge we have of it will be covered, as well as the senses it effects and how we perceive it. Now for the most part everyone knows the five senses; sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. We all have these, and our perception is how we react to these senses. Some people are more prone to senses than others and that is what makes all of us unique. Now I know what you re thinking; How can you have any of these senses in reality if you re dreaming? and that s a fair question. But lucid dreaming isn t just dreaming it s taking control of your ... • 5. He Was White, I Was Black Essay Although I can articulate it better now, I knew when I was ten years old why Carrot Wilkins and I would not always be as close as we were then. He was white, and I was black. I lived on the outskirts of Winston Salem, North Carolina in a predominately black neighborhood. Carrot lived about a fifteen minutes walk away in a largely white rural town called Walkertown. We met in the third grade on a school bus that took us both to Thomas Cash Elementary School. Being country boys at heart, we shareda lot of interests. We fished together a lot hunted squirrels, and played Robin Hood in the woods that separated our neighborhoods. But like kittens and puppies, we were being raised with very different perspectives of the world. And we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were smart, strong, handsome, and noble. And, until this incident, imagining that I was one of them had given me the feeling that I could do just about anything. I did come up with an answer to Carrot s Aqua Man. I decided I would be Magic Johnson. This, of course, met with immediate protest because Magic Johnson was not a superhero. Carrot demanded that I choose a real superhero. I decided I didn t want to play the game anymore, that I would never play the game again. We both went home, angry. Carrot didn t understand why, after I had played the game dozens of times with no problem, I had decided that I would never play again. And neither one of us understood why the people who created the superheroes made them all white. The only thing I knew was that Carrot would be able to continue pretending he was a superhero, but I never could again. Today, I am able to articulate the difference I perceived between myself and Carrot. That difference was based on the luxury of unlimited aspirations. This luxury allows a white child in America to believe that this is his land. And in his land he is taught that limitations are set only by his own work ethic. If he gives life his best shot, the system that distributes the spoils of life will reward him. This is called the American Dream. It is said that Tolstoy reaches unsurpassed perfection in the realistic art of the novel with Anna Karenina . In the novel Anna Karenina , Tolstoyleads the reader through Anna Arkadyevna Karenin s life and all the people who surround her. The reader follows Anna as she sorts out a fightbetween her brother Stepan and his wife Dolly. The reader becomes more aware of Stepan s good natured personality when he shows kindness to his friend Levin after he approaches Stepan at a political council meeting. Well lets go into my room, said Stepan Arkadyevitch who knew his friends sensitive and irritable shyness (29). With the character Levin, Tolstoy once again cleverly uses indirect characterization to allow the reader to look inside of him. When Levin falls into the story, he has just been caught sneaking into the political council without permission. Usually, men of good character would not need, or simply would not want to be sneaking into places where their presence is not invited. Levin is also a large man who is strongly built. The stereo type of large men is that they are confident, loud, and even boisterous. As the reader learns of Levin s love for Kitty, their opinion soon changes. Indirect characterization shows that Levin is actually a humble man. When thinking of Kitty and her feelings for him, Levin s thoughts said, He heard that women often did care for ugly and ordinary men, but he did not believe it (39). Levin believes ... Drugs, illegal and legal, have been a part of the history of the United States for almost three centuries. From the time when the 19th century began, Americans went from alcohol as the preferred mood altering substance to a new realm of addiction. During this time Americans were acquaint with wonder drugs such as morphine, heroin, and cocaine. Since that discovery, our society has confronted the problems of drug abuse and addiction (DEA, 2015). Once the 20th century began, the United States, contending with its first drug epidemic in the country s short history, progressively started effective limitations to combat the epidemic. In the United States through internal law enforcement they began to fight the issue domestically. Through cooperation and sometimes without the United States began spearheading a world crusade to limit opium and coca crops (DEA, 2015). The message in this gospel was compiled to minister to a Jewish and Jewish Christian community when tensions between early Christians and postwar Jewish leaders aggravated bitter controversy. • 11. Military Trade Patterns U.S. Military Engagement And Trade Patterns. Why is trade and war happening at the same time? There are many theories that try to explain this events happening at the same time and place. Although, these are all theories the most compelling one is aggressive negotiation. This theory explains the trading during war exported from the U.S to all over the world. It explains in detail why trade was going on during war, benefits to our nation with the export and import of textiles , it helped U.S troops defeat the Barbary pirates. Trade during war has been happening since early times dating way back in history. This happens because nations often disagree on trading, also the war between Barbary pirates. In the long run this desire creates problems and leads to issues among nations involved in this bias trade. Above all, this taboo event benefits the U.S army greatly. The United States came across a lot more racialist than Britain; the key racial targets being the American Negro and various portions of white races emigrating from Eastern Europe. In a much more patriotic and chauvinistic country this threatened to overwhelm the superior white race, forcing the development of new immigration and sterilisation laws. Britain was just as supportive in believing in the dominant White race, however was never as extreme in it racialism. British Society was ethnically more or less homogenous and therefore it had not experienced the considerable amount of non white emigrating people than it did in later decades. . The movement in Britain was marked by variations on existing racial themes, instead of new compositions. Racism figured a lot less distinctly and was of less importance to British Eugenics, identifying the new science as primarily class based, focusing more on the biological fitness of the different classes. Freshmen year of high school I turned those new skills and courage into actions by working with my school s JROTC program to sell candy and other treats to the other students. I took this as an opportunity to meet and talk to new people, it was also a way to make a little money. Unexpectedly, I gained so much knowledge about people what they like don t like, how presentation can directly affect if a potential customer makes a purchase, as well as how important it is to keep up with customers buying patterns. • 14. Communication Theories And Concepts Of The Film Outsourced When talking about communication, it is essential to understand what this term really means. There are many different definitions pertaining to this word, but none of them can be considered right or wrong. On the other hand, Samovar and Porter suggested one of the most basic and influential definitions: communicationis the ability to share our ideas and feelings (Samovar and Porter, 1995, p. 27). Mr. Todd s journey in the film Outsourced greatly reflects on a wide variety of communication theories and concepts, as well as my personal experience in the same country, India. When referring to communication, it is fundamental to grasp The Shannon and Weaver Model that was invented in 1947. This is basically an exemplary of a few stages in which the information source called sender, sends the information to its destination, the receiver. Information obviously does not get to the receiver magically; this is why this model was invented. It is a way to illustrate how a person shares beliefs and ideas, and how they reach their destination. For example, at the beginning of the movie Outsourced, the employee called Todd Anderson asks his boss named Dave: Is this gonna take a while? when he was called to privately speak inside his office (Jeffcoat, 2006, 1:26). In this case, the sender is Dave who sends the information through a place called channel, which then gets decoded before reaching its destination, Todd. On the other hand, it is also important to underline the fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I wanted to investigate whether instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) was more effective at reducing hamstring muscle tightness than foam rolling in high school athletes. Most high school athletes work very hard at practice and in the weight room and therefore, hamstring muscle tightness is very common. I chose the high school population because I want to work in the high school setting following graduation. I wanted to investigate if IASTM techniques could be more effective in the high school to reduce lower extremity muscle soreness than foam rolling. The case series by Baker, Nasypany, Seegmiller Baker (2013) investigated the effectiveness of IASTM for treatment of hamstring tissue extensibility dysfunction. Tissue extensibility dysfunction (TED) includes ROM limitations during standing flexion test, sit and reach test, passive and active straight leg hip flexion and 90/90 active knee extension test (Baker et.all). The participants in this study consisted of three collegiate athletes who can had long lasting tightness in the lower extremities, and exhibited hamstring TED. All patients had baseline active range motion measurements taken. The participants recorded their pain during activity using the numerical rating scale (NRS) during the initial examination. • 16. History And Personality Of The Supreme Court According to Toobin, the history and personality of the Supreme Court has also been affected by continual topics in recurrent cases as well as recurring constitutional themes. These continually topics are seen in previous cases that have made reappearances in other cases as they are applied to modern times and cases. As seen in the provision of the historic rulings in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education and the 1964 Reynolds v. Sims that established the rule of one person, one vote and equal protection played a large role in the 1996 case of Romer v. Evans that ruled that Colorado could not keep its cities from passing laws to protect homosexuals (172). Even after over three decades, the decision in Brown and Reynolds greatly influenced the outcome of Romer as it gave insight into rights to all individuals. Laws regarding blacks also continued to recur in the Court system, especially after the civil rights movement of the 1960s and the laws regarding racial classifications. At this time, the Jim Crow laws were struck down and the justices examined law with strict scrutiny. Later in the 1970s, the government started programs to help blacks and minorities with affirmative action initiatives. However, the issue of Richmond v. Croson and the so called Equal Protection Clause violation of a lack of minority subcontractors of J.A. Croson Company led to the debate of reverse discrimination and the dependence of the clause to race and classification (208 209). Consequently, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Aloe Vera, And The Vitality Of Youth Essay Aloe Vera, also called simply Aloe, is a flowering, cactus like succulent plan that thrives in dry, hot climates, and is believed to be at least 6,000 years old. Kumari is the Ayurvedic name for aloe, and is translated as the vitality of youth (Chopra Simon, 2000, p. 66). Native to Africa ( Aloe, 2016), it is grown in tropical and sub tropical areas ( Aloe UMMC, 2015). Different parts of the plant have different uses. The leaves, which are thick (cactus like) and fibrous, have three layers. The central pulp contains gel that is extracted for use both topical and internal use (Chopra Simon, 2000, p. 67). The fibrous part of the plant is used to make a laxative from the Aloe latex that is extracted. Some products are made using the whole crushed leaf, and contain the latex and gel ( Aloe WebMD, 2016). The gel made from Aloe Vera, either pure or as part of a mixture, is commonly used in moisturizing products for skin, is often included in sun block/sunscreen ( Aloe, 2016). It also has a wide variety of medicinal purposes, including burns, wounds, skin irritations, and constipation both historically and currently. Recently, it has not been recommended for use as a laxative. Today, Aloe is still one of the most common herbs used for a multitude of purposes ( Aloe UMMC, 2015, para. 1). It is also considered as a tonic for the liver (Lad, 2009, p. 130). The Aloe Vera plant is also known as the burn plant (Dossey Keegan, 2016, p. 374) and, as mentioned ... The Trickster in Anne Rice s Interview with the Vampire Vampires today, particularly after Anne Rice s five book series, the Vampire Chronicles, are portrayed in quite a different light than the vampires of ages past. (Whyte 2) In fact, most vampires are portrayed as both beast and man, struggling to retain their humanity as the lust for blood seems to never diminish and eternal as they are, their inner conflict spans to infinity. Traditional scholarship differentiates any tangible entity that fulfills the trickster criteria as clown. Trickster research is confusing at this point because it calls tricksters mythic entities found in folklore and in legends. Therefore, a trickster is more than just an idea; it may also be a mythic creature. (Kim ix) For the purposes of this essay I will refer to the trickster first as an idea, as a set of elements and then exemplify these characteristics using mythic entities as a form of illustration. Tricksters are usually associated with a host of negative elements such as stubbornness, chicanery, duplicity, cruelty, greed, gluttony, and avarice; (Musinsky) although their unifying elements are selfishness, egoism and self centeredness. As mentioned before tricksters are amoral, or, to use a Nietzsche s phrase: beyond good and evil. By extension, environmental or natural history, some would they are natural history is history, has a purpose. I believe that Paul Sutter articulated it best when he said environmental history should lend value to the world in which they are entangled, both to narrate the past and to inform action in the present. How one can accomplish this is a difficult question; William Cronan gives a good mechanism, when he says environmental history is at least as important for the way it asks and answers questions by analogy, metaphor, and parable and the search to discover their meanings than for any specific problems it may actually solve. In this way, Diana Davis Resurrecting the Granary of Rome: Environmental History and French Colonial Expansion in North Africa and David Blackbourn s The Conquest of Nature: Water, Landscape, and the Making of Modern Germany best serve to educate about the past and to inform the present. Diana Davis shows her readers that the misappropriation and misuse of knowledge relating to the natural world were used to justify colonization and to declensionist policies, Diana Davis plainly says her purpose: to stop the use of the destructive declensionist narrative, that postcolonial states have embraced David Blackbourn on the other hand creates a timeline from the unification of Germany to the Nazis to his present day Germany and he connects multiple narratives to connect conquest of people to The Conquest of Nature, ... • 24. King Oedipus The King Essay Sophocles play, King Oedipus is a perfect example of a clear Aristotelian tragedy. In fact, it was so perfect that Aristotle himself considered it the ideal tragedy. An Aristotelian tragedy is serious action in a dramatic text that portrays incidents arousing pity and fear, causing catharsis in the audience. Aspects of a tragedyinclude a tragic hero, who is neither good nor bad, who has a hamartia which causes him to ignore a divine warning or violate a moral law. A common example of hamartia is hubris, or pride. A tragedy is also often accompanied by a peripeteia, which is when the tragic hero has a sudden change of fortune. The tragic hero moves us to pity and also to fear, by showing us how what happened to him could happen to us as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, he also shows that other characters also have some of these tragic qualities and that they contribute to Oedipus downfall. Firstly, Sophocles uses irony when Oedipus says, It is I whom no stranger, no citizen must take to his house; I to whom none may speak; on me is the curse that none but i have laid. This is an example of irony because it shows that Oedipus sets all these curses for anyone who killed Laius, yet he will end up being ensnared by these curses, which he himself laid. This line references when Oedipus explains about how he kills all of the people in Laius party save one, who became a shepherd, and it evokes our terror by showing how Oedipus is capable of such an extreme act of violence, and this shows Oedipus as a tragic hero. Similarly, Sophocles uses irony when Jocasta says, Where are you now, divine prognostications? which shows how Oedipus is not the only culprit in this tragedy, and that Jocasta ignores a divine warning, which helps to show the play as an Aristotelian play, and that these characters who are not quite tragic heroes do contribute to Oedipus downfall. Lastly, Sophocles uses high modality when Oedipus says, I must unlock the secret of my birth. He uses the high modality to show Oedipus final hamartia: that he sought the truth until it was too late, and this causes his peripeteia, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What are some of the greatest security risks to a WAN? Provide an example of one risk and discuss the potential consequences and possible precautions. In my opinion the biggest security risk in a WAN is something that no one really ever thinks about and is the one exploited more then all of the other risks combined. That risk is the user. The user on the network is the greatest risk a network could undergo. I have always been told in my security department that your network is only as safe as the weakest user on the network. The user is the easiest part of the network to exploit because it is easier to trick a person then it is to trick a machine. For example phishing scams from emails or WebPages steal user credentials every day. People believe if it has your networks logo on it that it is from your network. Another easy exploit on the user is Social Engineering. I have seen this actually happen in my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The case concerned a bellman at the Bellagio Hotel who solicited a tip from a customer, which was against company policy. The customer complained to management, and the bellman was summoned to a meeting regarding the complaint. When asked about the complaint, the bellman requested a union representative; however, he declined to contact one by his own effort. The Bellagio tried to find a union rep, but was unable to locate one at that time, so they informed the Bellman that he could fill out a statement without a rep, or the meeting would be postponed and he would be put on suspension pending investigation until the matter was cleared up. Having favorite nations could pull the nation into a war that it never wanted to be involved in. A nation that has a devoted attachment to another could find itself involved without merit in their affairs and might become controlled involuntarily by their actions. The most common assumption for the life of peasant was an uneducation, monotonous lifestyle with little interesting factors. Fortunately for social historians, a strange occurrence happened in the small village of Artigat in the Pyrenees of Southwestern France and was perfectly documented and preserved by a judge of the court, Jean de Coras. While the court case and storyline was very detailed by Coras, there were many gaps in the characters motivations and reasonings behind their actions. Her entire narrative fills the gaps with opinions solely placed to persuade readers of Davis own viewpoints, creating a skeptical review of the rest of her writing. One of Davis major accusations in the Martin Guerre record is Bertrand s role in the imposter s successful foolery of the town. Davis believes that much like the upper class, the peasants only seek out activities that benefit their own self interest. Davis supports this idea by making the claim that Bertrande was knowledgeable of the crime of impersonation and decided to partake in it. She quotes: She must have realized the difference; there is no mistaking the touch of a man . Either by explicit or tacit agreement, she helped him become her husband (Davis 44). For workers to be both satisfied and happy with their job, some particular motivation qualities have to be present, such as recognition, achievement, responsibility, and organization s advancement. Herzberg had added to the list some physical aspects including salary, physical working conditions, benefits, technical quality supervision, challenging, and company policy (Miller, 2006, p. 32 33). The two characteristics sets must be present for employees to be happy, satisfied and deliver their best, their absence could interpret to workers who are unsatisfied, unhappy and unproductive, as it is in Initech. A good example is when Peter tells Bobs If I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don t see another dime. So where s the motivation? Because staff at Initech do not obtain worthwhile benefits or even see the proceeds of their hard work, which would act as motivator, they fail to feel their achievement or recognition. Moreover, the employees at Initech do not have means for self actualization; they are neither encouraged nor allowed to realize their full potential, which Spitzer (1995, p. 7) argued could be fatal to the future of an organization. He argued that providing the staff with an environment of encouragement will make them realize their full potential consequently increasing the organization s production.

Analysis Of The World Of Doublespeak By William Lutz In the essay The World of Doublespeak , by William Lutz, the author gives the reader four different questions to help one identify doublespeak. According to Lutz these questions are, who is saying what to whom, under what conditions and circumstances, with what intent, and with what results? (par. 4). These questions help to distinguish between truthful language and doublespeak. The first question, who is saying what to whom? focuses on the relationship between the two people. The chance of doublespeak being present increases greatly when the two people have a negative, or passive aggressive, relationship. The next question, under what conditions and circumstances? focuses on the events of what is going on. This question shows up prominently in events such as political rallies and debates.
