Misfit Magazine Survey Results
1. Questionnaire results
1.Do you listen to
Alternative rock music?

This is a reassuring response as the alternative rock genre hosts a fairly niche market so to see that
the majority of the target audience I asked (16-17 years) have and do listen to alternative music. This
shows that it is hold a relatively popular and positive representation with my peers.
2.Do you listen to Punk rock

This has proven to be a more popular option than alternative; this might suggest that perhaps
making the magazine be more ‘Punk’ orientated might be a wise choice as it might make the overall
image more appealing to my target audience. I could still however feature alternative music as it is
still a common choice and by adding it in I am covering a wider audience interest.
3.Out of the following names, which one is
your favorite for a punk/alternative
magazine?

Anomaly

These are a solid set of results as the choice for the masthead of my magazine Idea should be misfit
as it is the most popular choice with half the people I asked voting for it. Anomaly is not a good
choice as it is the lowest of the four with only 1 person voting for it.
2. 4.Would you purchase a

Again, I am pleased to see that chances of my magazine being appealing to the audience are high, all
of the people I asked I between 16 and 17 years old, so it’s good to see that magazine sales are not
affecting much by modern technology which in its self was the main reason for the two people
voting ‘No’. This shows that I have to include something that is exclusive to the magazine and cannot
be purchased or viewed online.
5.Would you purchase a
magazine if it featured an
artist you like?

This gives me an idea of what to feature on the front cover and contents page. I will need to feature
and mention a range of different artists and bands in order to cover as wide a fan base as I can, thus
increasing the chances of my magazine getting purchased.
6.Would you be more likely to
purchase a magazine if it
offered free gifts (i.e Posters)

I was surprised to find that only a third of the people I asked where sure that they would want to
purchase the magazine more if it featured free gifts as it is often a selling point of the magazine. By
including it, I am hopefully sealing the deal with 90% of my audience.

7. Out of the following, what would you expect to find in a music
magazine (tick more than one)
Interviews Reviews Previews Gig Schedules
Series1
For this question I allowed the participant to tick more than one option as you will often always find
more than one of these options featuring in a magazine. 100% ticked that they would expect to see
an interview with an artist or band in a music magazine, this is useful as I will definitely include it, as
for the other options, gig schedules was the least popular, however every option was ticked at some
point and for that reason, I will try to include all of the above in my contents page and front cover.
8.Out of the following release
schedules, which one would you most
likely follow?
Weekly

Fortnightly

Monthly

The release schedule for a magazine is important as it often determines the quality of the magazine,
you will often find that magazines that I released monthly are often more expensive and well -made
than a magazine that it released on a weekly basis. These results have told me that monthly is the
most popular option, meaning that they expect my magazine to be of a high price and quality.
Magazines of this quality will often look more formal and tailored for an older audience, a point I will
consider when designing the front cover and content.
4. 9.Out of the following, which price
would you most likely pay for a music
magazine?
£1-2
80%
£3-4
20%
£5-6

This was the most obvious option for my target audience and I’m not surprised with the results. £3-4
would often be the price for a monthly released magazine however; all the people I asked where 16-
17 years old and most likely do not have the extra finances to afford anything above the cheap price
tag of £1-2. As a response to these results I will make my magazine between the £1-3 marks as it will
be the most appealing financial decision.
10.What age range would you expect a
magazine on these genres to be targeted
at?

This acted as a clarification that what I want to produce does work for the target audience I want. In
this case I want the magazine to suite people aged between 14-18 years old, so to see that most of
the participants agreed is very reassuring that what I aim to produce is a reasonable
idea/expectation.
