Marine Biology And Wild Life Conservation
All my life I have pursued my fascination for animals and the ocean anywhere from volunteering to going to the University of Rhode Island to
getting certified in diving to teaching. With my experiences and passion for the field of marine biology and wild life conservation I know I can make
a considerable difference in any research project.
My first substantial step toward making a career out of my interests for the oceans and all its aquatic life was my volunteer work at the Mystic
Aquarium and Institute for Exploration. When I was a sophomore in high school I was accepted into the docent program at the Aquarium. There I was
responsible for the safety of the public and animals while providing an educational and inspiring environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After I started at Mystic I got involved with 2 different organizations at my high school that had a huge focus in volunteering and giving back to
the immediate community that we were raised in. The first club is a student run volunteer organization called Vision that focused on work in our
immediate and surrounding communities. The second organization I received membership into was the Mark Twain Chapter of the National
Honors Society. This society was composed of an elite group of students that had high regards for character, service, and education. In order to
apply one had to have a GPA of a 3.5 or higher and once you were able to apply you must have 30 recorded hours of community service and then an
essay explaining yourself in terms of character, service, and education. Once welcomed into the society, we did volunteer work for the community
and other events to help other students improve their abilities in a variety of school topics. The volunteer work from both clubs included helping and
participating at our annual blood drive, relay for life, food drives, Christmas present drives, helping elderly care for their lawns, and cleaning up our
town's schools' grounds. Each project involved a group effort from everyone involved and we ended up making a huge difference for our community. I
still continue to help out in my community by doing beach clean ups and food drives.

Conservation And Sustainability Of Oceans, Seas And Marine...
Conservation and Sustainability of the Use of Oceans, Seas and Marine Resources for Sustainable Development
The UN has created a list of Sustainable Development Goals in order to improve global sustainability. This paper will focus specifically on Goal 14
and its associated targets to "conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development" ("Proposal for
Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform").
Measurability of Targets
The measurability of a target is the ability to measure progress over a period of time. Targets from Goal 14 are ambiguous and unclear. Certain targets
are not measurable, some are, and some can be measured in part.
Firstly, some targets are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thirdly, target 14.4 can be measured in part. Because of the nature of illegal activities, it is hard to collect accurate and complete numbers regarding
the amount of illegal fishing there is. However, it is possible to increase and measure the number of laws and regulations surrounding this activity.
Measurements of Targets
The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 was drafted to preserve oceans. This goal describes various targets that are currently measured in part.
However, barriers still exist in terms of accurate assessment of certain targets.
Currently, to measure target 14.1, there are simulation models based on global waste production and ocean currents that identify zones of
floating–debris accumulation in world oceans (Lebreton, Greer, Borrero, 2012). As for non–floating debris, the use of skin samples from sperm whales
for the measurement of toxic chemicals and metals in the oceans has been studied (Savery, Catherine, 2013). Such examination would be limited to
localization of the whales as well as the number of chemicals absorbed into the skin, and thus may not serve as the best measurement of target 14.1.
Target 14.2 is measured in part. A study has been conducted in China about the restoration of marine ecosystems following urbanization and
industrialization of the country (Chen, Bin, et al, 2013). Restoration of different habitats including rocky shore systems, seagrass systems, disused
docks have also been studied (Hawkins,

Fishery Production Analysis
To add to the existing literature on fishery production, this paper presents a comparison analysis of two relatively under–explored specifications: the
quadratic and square root production functions. Fixed effects estimation and quantile regression analysis will be employed to determine whether one
form is superior to the other. This paper also considers the effects of various government financial transfers and gender–specific postsecondary
education rates on fishery output levels. Results indicate the square root specification to be a better–fitting model for the dataset, albeit only slightly
preferred. Education levels are found to have non–insignificant effects on fishery output, while government financial transfers have a mostly... Show

Nevertheless, this study will investigate whether the quadratic or square root production function produces a significantly better–fitting model than the
other for fishery output, with respect to a select set of inputs, including employment and fleet size, with special attention paid to the effects of various
government financial transfers and the overall educational attainment of men and women across OECD countries. The structure of this paper is as
follows: a literature review of relevant past studies which incorporated one or more of the explanatory variables selected for this study; list of novel
aspects of the study; a brief discussion of underlying economic theory in modelling fishery production; an outline of the models and empirical approach
taken in conducting the analysis; description of the dataset; presentation of results and accompanying discussion; and concluding remarks with mention
of limitations of the study and possible future considerations.
Literature Review Zhang and Smith (2011) similarly conducted a comparison analysis of production functions for fisheries. They tested the validity of a
generalized fishery model, using a two–stage estimation method with a bootstrap approach, against the more prevalent Gordon–Schaefer Model, which
has been commonly used in computing maximum sustainable fishery yield. Using data on fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico, they find the Schaefer
production function to produce

Critique of the intervention of Sustainable Seafood and Fisheries in Hong Kong:
WWF's Seafood Choice Initiative
(WWF, 2015)
Word Count: 2876 words
1Introduction
1.1 What does sustainable consumption mean and why is an intervention important?
Many studies have shown that a large extent of environmental degradation is in fact related to the consumers (Heiskanen and Pantzar, 1997).
Consumption has become the predominant and essential phenomena of our lives (Ratneshwar et al., 2000). In order to reduce the negative impacts
humans place on the environment, the issue of sustainability has been prioritized since the 1992 World Summit in Rio. Consume sustainably and having
a sustainable lifestyle is the fundamental part to favor the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The marine environment has a great impact on the ecology and even climate change in a bigger picture. Hong Kong was once a fishing port back in a
century ago with nearly 1000 fish species, but overfishing in the 1970s called it off due to the advancement in fishing technologies and with the lack of
fisheries management (WWF, 2014). There is a high consumption ofseafood among people in Hong Kong. According to the Food and Agriculture
Organisation of United Nation (2011), people in Hong Kong consume about 71.2kg per person in one year alone, which is 4.1 times more than the
global average and as well as a double of China's consumption. Its per capita consumption of seafood also ranks the 2nd in Asia. This puts huge
pressure on marine resources. Their seafood footprint exceeds the actual seafood fair share by nearly 200% (WWF, 2015). Furthermore, studies have
found that this vast consumption in Hong Kong is damaging the marine ecology. 12% of the Hong Kong Ecological Footprint in fact comes from their
seafood consumption (WWF, 2011).
2Details of the intervention and stakeholders
2.1 The WWF's Seafood Choice Initiatives
To respond the negative effects of Hong Kong's seafood consumption on marine environment, WWF Hong Kong joined the global initiative in 2007
due to a raise in awareness on sustainable seafood among consumers and businesses. It is a adaptable seafood consumption guide

Destruction Of Animals : The Importance Of Endangered Species
In addition, protecting an animal's habitat is much easier than many people think. Change can start as close as someone's own backyard; anyone
can make their own home wildlife friendly. When living close to a forest, it is important to make sure any outside garbage is secured. This will
prevent animals such as bears or raccoons from eating or getting hurt by the garbage. Feeding and keeping animals inside is especially important
because the food and small animals will often attract scavengers or larger wildlife near homes. Outside of home life, visiting wildlife reservations
and sanctuaries can help anyone learn ways to protect wildlife. The sanctuaries and reservations, as well as national parks, are protected areas where
animals can live without fear of poachers. Not only do these places teach about the animals and ways to help them, the "wildlife related recreation
creates millions of jobs and supports local businesses" (10 Easy Things). The destruction of habitat is the biggest threat to wildlife populations. The
sanctuaries and reservations are only helping a small part of the widespread habitat ruination. "Scientists tell us the best way to protect endangered
species is to protect the special places where they live. Wildlife must have places to find food, shelter and raise their young. Logging, oil and gas
drilling, over–grazing and development all result habitat destruction. Endangered species habitat should be protected and these impacts minimized. By

A Brief Note On The Conservation Of Ruins
CONSERVATION OF RUINS A heritage ruin is defined as a disused and incomplete place comes in all shapes and sizes, that through abandonment,
redundancy or condition, usually no longer maintained and unlikely to serves its original function or purpose other than interpretation (Australian
Heritage Council, 2013). Rizzi, added the definition of ruin from architectural point of view: 'A building which having lost a substantial part of its
architectural form has ceased to function as such. Elementary, but full of implications: a building that has lost its natural defences (roof, windows,
plasters, etc), unarmed against the ravages of atmospheric agents and consequently more vulnerable to the destructive effect of time; A building that
has stopped to fulfill its functions, to shelter human activities and which, in a sense, has begun its journey towards progressive decline and final
disappearance'. (Rizzi 2007, p.xx). Although the term "ruins" implies the abandoned condition of the building materials, this condition does not
resemble the loss of heritage values embedded to it (Australian Heritage Council, 2013). For this reason, it is obvious that heritage ruins are equally as
important as any other historic building survived. It is the evidence of past human activity; a "shared resources" that retain important heritage values,
and potentially possess tangible and intangible heritage attributes (Drury and McPherson 2008, Australian Heritage Council 2013). During the last

New Transit System for Sunshine Coast
As a consequence of the rapidly increasing population of the Sunshine Coast, and therefore rising transport demand, various suggestions have been
made in regards to the establishment of a new transit system. Currently, the most favoured option in regards to alternative transport on the Sunshine
Coast is that of a light rail line which would link all major destinations and attractions within the region as well as connect with bus and train services in
hinterland communities (Deutscher, 2013). In addition, present studies conducted by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council (2013) detail that the light
rail would extend from Caloundra to Maroochydore, via the University of the Sunshine Coast. However, the development of the light rail line along this
route would involve crossing Currimundi Creek, a critical environmental and tourism feature of the Sunshine Coast. The distinctive and biodiverse
environments of this area are crucial for the sustainment of certain conditions that various species rely on for survival (Williams, 2010). Moreover, the
Currimundi Catchment is also the habitat of multiple species with 'Conservation Status' as detailed in the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the
Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Department of the Environment, 2013). Based on the field work studies completed
by local students, as well as the data of secondary sources such as the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management (GCCM), it can be determined that the

Air and TГ©nГ©rГ© Natural Reserves was included in the World Heritage list because it had fit into three of the criteria points for the natural criteria.
These include criterion X (10), IX (9), and VII (7).
To begin with, criterion x (10) states that the area has to have important and natural habitats for conservation of biodiversity and it may contain
threatened species with value of science and conservation. The Air Tenere Natural Reserves successfully demonstrates this, as in its environment, there
are three species of the antelope of the Sahara Desert on IUCN 's Red List of threatened species, which are the Dorcas Gazelle, Leptocere gazelle
and the Addax. About one sixth of the Reserve is benefited from the statute of sanctuary for the protection of the Addax. Many species have been
identified in the reserve, including 40 species of mammals, 18 species of reptiles, 165 species of birds, and one amphibian species. This shows the
vast biodiversity in this area. As for flora, there are species of, Acacia raddiana, Balanites aegyptiaca and Maerua crassifolia and many more. In the
larger valleys, where water in the alluvial reservoirs is plentiful, there is a specific habitat that was developed with date palms and doum palms.

Pearl Bank Apartments: A Case Study Of Pearl Bank Apartment
Pearl Bank Apartments (PBA) was chosen as a case study because it is the first multi–strata private development to volunteer its building for
conservation. The case study is interesting because it breaks the conventional fight between the government and public as seen in the old National
Library's case. Additionally, the case study would highlight the current consciousness of conservation within Singaporeans, and the success of VC
project is vital in heralding a new chapter into Singapore's efforts in built heritage conservation. Hence, the dissertation has delved into the various
stakeholder's feelings, opinions and thoughts to understand their motivation towards modern architecture conservation. Additionally, it has explored

For instance, CAP Yeo Kang Shua recommended that the LCM should look into an open access policy by converting a few units of different
typology into galleries or organise guided heritage tours at stipulated timings. Furthermore, these galleries could also act as space for owners to
reminisce and learn about the history of their property, which may heighten their connection and pride towards it. Additionally, LCM could also
take inspiration from its neighbours such as the Pinnacle@Duxton for opening up its sky garden to the public at an affordable entry fee. Since PBA
boasts a beautiful panoramic view of Singapore, hence they could convert its existing rooftop into a sky garden or propose that the new green tower
would be open to public access with a price. All in all, showing the government the public good in PBA could be another way in achieving the
conservation status for PBA. Lastly, in light of the importance of land lease in private developments, MND and URA could look into value adding
their VC initiative for multi–strata private developments by teaming up with SLA to include land–lease extension if the building is worthy of

The Importance Of Marine Conservation
Sophie Huggins The role of Marine Protected Areas (MPA's) and why marine conservation is important for saving the ocean for current and future
generations. From the air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat, the need for constant medical advances, and to the products that keep us warm, safe,
and entertained – all these can come from or be transported by the oceans for human society5. As the oceans cover a large expanse of the earth's
surface and are huge ecosystems, our security, economy and survival all require healthy oceans. Whether we live near the coast or far from it,
whether we consume seafood or not, life depends on the marine ecosystem. We need to devote more energy into research, monitoring and
enforcement of laws in order to increase scientific knowledge, monitor exploitation, protect and prevent degradation and damage to species and their
habitats. There are many reasons why the oceans should be conserved and protected. For instance, at any given moment in time, more than 97% of
the world's water resides in oceans which means that they make up 99% of liveable space on earth6. The World's oceans provide a sixth of the animal
protein that people eat5. More than 8 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the oceans every year, more than 80 percent of marine plastic litter,
comes from land–based sources, such as drink bottles and plastic packaging. The remainder comes from sea–based plastics, such as fishing gear that
has been dropped or discarded9. This is not

Why The Beaver Should Thank The Wolf By Mary Hannibal
Not many people understand the seriousness of endangered species. Some sources go as far as trying to prove that the act does more harm than
good. They do not realize how drastically their lives can be changed if one part of the food chain is taken away. In the essay "Why the Beaver Should
Thank the Wolf" by Mary Hannibal, the essayist explains that a group of environmental nonprofits would challenge the federal government's removal of
Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in Wyoming. Hannibal does not explain the EndangeredSpecies Act, but according to the The National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration it "provides for the conservation of species that are endangered or threatened throughout all or a significant
portion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An ecosystem is a community of interacting organisms and their environment. If one of the organisms is disturbed, it can change the trophic cascade
which is a sequence of impacts down the food chain. Hannibal supports this statement by writing "keeping these connections going ensures healthy,
functioning ecosystems, which in turn support human life."(578) An example of this is if all of the beavers died the other organisms would go
somewhere else or die due because they no longer will have dams to support their ideal habitat.
Many organisms in their ecosystems benefit when their predators are around. In paragraphs 4, 5, and 6 Hannibal provides many examples of how
having predators is beneficial to the ecosystem. One example is in paragraph 4 when she says;
...elk and other browsing animals behave differently when wolves are around. Instead of eating greenery down to the soil, they take a bite or two,
look up to check for threats, and keep moving. The greenery can grow tall enough to reproduce.(578)
Because of this, the animals in that ecosystem are able to thrive. Hannibal's main points in these paragraphs point out that there is a specific job for
each animal in the food chain which has a direct effect on its ecosystem if something changes.
A change could cause a degraded ecosystem which would be far less productive overall. In paragraphs 8, 9, and 10 Hannibal explains an example of
sea otters eating the sea urchins which protects

Persuasive Essay On Endangered Animals
Endangered animals are species that are in danger of extinction. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, they are 7 categories
that gauge their status. These 7 are extinct, extinct in wild, critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable, near threatened, and least concern. Contrary
to popular belief, these endangered species exist not only in Africa, but all around the world. We all are affected by this catastrophe. Jennifer Bove puts
it perfectly in her article titled "Why It Matters When Species Go Extinct" by saying "Like pieces of yarn in a woven tapestry, the removal of one can
start unraveling the whole system." She is saying that if an animal is lost due to endangerment, there is always going to be a repercussion that effects
the whole ecosystem, or in her words, tapestry. With De–extinction, the problem is nullified in general. By developing the species through replacing
the nucleus in the host's unfertilized animal egg with the nucleus of a somatic cell of the species presented, we can produce a solution to the problem
of endangered species. I am applying to The Natural Conservancy grant to conduct research on the method of de–extinction and the effect it will have
on endangered animals and conservation efforts.
Many biologists and ecologists have been trying to find a solution to the problem of endangered animals for some time now. Some say the best way to
solve this problem is with drones that monitor the movements of animals. Others

The Theories Of Piaget 's Theory
Piaget's research ideas have resulted in new insights as to how children think, reason, and perceive the world. Piaget was interested in the qualitative,
not quantitative, characteristics of development. It does not matter that a child can recite multiplication tables unless he understands the concepts
behind addition and multiplication of numbers or quantities. Piaget used a number of tasks to test children's scientific thinking and reasoning, many of
which specifically tested conservation. The term Conservation is the understanding of constancy of characteristics such as liquid (volume), quantity
(mass), length, area or number, despite changes in appearance (Anselmo,p.384). The conservation problems were developed... Show more content on

In terms of notion of centration, the child focuses or'centers' on one aspect of the event, the length of the rows and ignores another aspect of which he
is cognitively aware, the number of pennies. Again the child is asked for the reason, why did he think the row is longer, the child claimed that, the
row is bigger, so concludes more pennies; he is influenced by changes in the appearance of the pennies row's length. The child's understanding of these
situations is 'perception bound'. Moreover the child thinking was focused on states; because he fails to track what has happened to pennies and simply
make an intuitive judgement based on how they appear now. Even though, he has seen, unable to imagine the reverse process. This shows the child's
thinking is" irreversible. Child A.is centered, perception– bound, focussed on states, shows irreversibility. This child A. is not conserving number,
shows the indication of pre–operational level. In the conservation of length task, the four years and eight months old child A. is shown two identical
ice cream sticks of same length. Once child is asked, whether each of these stick has same length; he agrees. Then, one of the stick is moved to the
child's right and the child is asked again, for which one is longer. The child A. invariably points to the displaced right stick. The child A. cannot think

Scottish Wildlife Trust Essay
The Scottish Wildlife Trust manages a network of 120 wildlife reserves across Scotland. Their main aim is to aid in preserving and maintaining
healthy ecosystems throughout Scotland's land and seas. Possil Marsh is one of such wildlife reserves, located in the north of Glasgow. Ecology and
Conservation students from the University Glasgow visited the reserve on Friday the 14th of October 2016. The intention of this excursion was for
students to see first–hand the variety of wildlife which inhibits the reserve and take into consideration the processes of management. This refers to
preserving the area whilst still making it accessible to the public. With an area of 78.2 acres, Possil marsh contains a large quantity and variety of
habitats to support the inhabiting species. The reserve has a shallow freshwater loch, providing suitability for water birds and many other animals.
This water is surrounded by a combination of vegetation including marsh, swamp and fen, with areas of willow scrub and grassland. The fen and
swamp areas support locally rare plants specific to this site. The reserve is also proved to be an important staging post during the spring and autumn
migration for warblers and waterfowl. There is path accessible from the Forth & Clyde towpath and around the perimeter of the reserve which is
available for visitors to use. (SNH, 2007) Upon arrival of the reserve my initial expectations were already contradicted. Although I was aware that the

Biodiversity And Conservation Of Marine Biodiversity
The world's oceans cover 70 percent of the earth's surface (Allsopp, Page, Johnston, & Santillo, 2009). The oceans biodiversity is increasingly
becoming more threatened each year by anthropogenic activities such as pollution, destructive fishing methods, overfishing and commercial agriculture
(Tyus, 2012). Marine conservation has improved over the years to protect and preserve ecosystems in oceans and seas. To limit the anthropogenic
damage, restore habitats, species and preserve vulnerable marine life (Norse & Crowder, 2005). The term marine biodiversity discusses the abundance
of species in a geographical area. (Allsopp et al., 2009). The biodiversity and conservation of marine systems can include a range of different types
of habitats, the habitat that will be discussed in this study will be tropical coral reefs of Madagascar (Dobson & Frid, 2009). Coral reefs are the
most biologically diverse ecosystem within the oceans (Hill, 2005). At a global scale, they tend to have high species diversity to care and support a
large number of fish communities (Tyus, 2012). Coral reefs are recognised as the most pristine marine ecosystem of Madagascar; it is species rich but
are also very fragile and threatened (Ahamada, Bijoux, Cauvin, Kooonjul, Maharavo, & Pierre–Louis, 2004). Endemic species inhabit this region such
as butterflyfish (Chaetodontidae) and wrasses (Labridae), which show reliable indicators for the reefs health (Nadon, Griffiths, & Doherty, 2005).

The Coastal And Marine Conservation And Management Approaches
1.Introduction The Coastal and marine conservation and management approaches are focused on a restricted area of significant human usage for
practises such as; recreational and commercial fishing and leisure, and highly active biologically. The coastal marine ecosystem has been suffering a
general tendency of population growth and, nowadays, has been also linked with industrial increase (Pietersen & Beekman 2006). However its benefits
might be essential to stakeholders, as a consequence of this constant disproportional growth, the threats are becoming more visual, which also increases
the awareness. That, added to the recognition of the coastal environment, existing and emerging threats and important economic value, implies that a
feasible management approach is necessary. The difficulties met in planning and management starts at the very first step; identifying and prioritizing
the problems (Scherer et al. 2014). Thus, the most feasible and effective approach encountered will be discussed posteriorly to the main threats; such as
overfishing, pollution and climate change, in which incorporates ocean temperature rise, sea level rises and ocean acidification (StelzenmГјller &
Martìn 2009). 2.Threats It is important to highlight that most coastal environments, due mainly to anthropogenic events, are constantly exposed to
the majority of these problems, not individually. The synergistic effects of human disturbance expand considerably the responses. In other words,
stresses

The Endangered Species Act (ESA)
Extinction is nothing new to animal and plant species around the earth. Over the course of time on the earth there have been five mass extinctions,
with many predicting that a sixth has already begun due to human fault. The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was designed to save both animal and
plant life from these great feat. The ESA has seen only a 2% recovery rate since it enactment (Why is U.S. Recovery Rate (2%) for Endangered Species
So Low?). Many critics and politicians have been calling for a reformation of the act for years. The ESA is in need of a change in the following areas

The recovery rate of those species has been 2% (Why is U.S. Recovery Rate (2%) for Endangered Species So Low?) with 58 species being delisted
(Corn & Alexander, 2014, p.6). Of the 58 species that have been delisted 30 species were delisted due to recovery of the species, 10 species due
extinction, 7 species due to taxonomic revisions, and 11 species due to legislative changes. 41% of the species that have been listed have improved
in some way or form during their listing. (Corn & Alexander, 2014, p.6) Over 950 conservations plan have been made, more than 520 critical habitats
have been selected, and the amount of conservation plans that have been put into effect has gone over 1,138. (Primo, 2014, p.4) As of 2011 the
amount of money being spent on protecting endangered species totaled $1.39 billion. $1.34 billion was spent by the federal government and $57.8

Forest Conservation
FOREST CONSERVATION
Forests are one of the most important natural resources that have been gifted to mankind for their sustained existence on earth. Without question, they
provide us with huge amounts of tangible and intangible benefits, without which indeed, all life, less to say human life, would fall under the risk of
extinction. Hence, it is vital for us to realize this importance of forest cover, conserve them, and ultimately work towards a sustainable way to
maintain our forests and meet our needs at the same time. In this paper, I have focused initially on the barbaric behavior of us human beings towards
forests, and how they have been and are still being massacred around the globe to meet our ever increasing and limitless wants ... Show more content on

CONSERVATION AND PRESERVATION: These two terms are often confused with one another, but they refer to two slightly different concepts.
Preservation of anything is basically keeping it in such manner that it cannot or should not be touched or used. For instance, if a forest is being
preserved it means that it is to be kept untouched and nothing is to be extracted from it. It is to be left to its own accord. On the other hand,
conservation implies more towards a sustained use, or use in a sustainable fashion. As in the example given above, if a forest is declared as conserved,
it means that resources may be extracted in a systematic and accounted way, so as not to compromise the forests ability to replenish itself in terms of
resources, and so that it may continue its intangible functions properly.
SUSTAINABILITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: The term refers to the existence and maintenance of a system, on its own accord, over a
period of time, or that a system is able to stand and function by itself for a certain duration. This term then leads on to sustainable development, which
the latest of concepts in development of a nation and its entities. Sustainable development means the development targeted at making resources
available both useful yet sustained, so as no to compromise it for future generations.

Animals Save For Animals
In the world there are about 1.3 million different species that scientists have named. Out of that 1.3 million there are about 50,000 species that are
endangered or close to being endangered according to the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) Red List. Lately, multiple zoos
have been crucified for housing some of these animals. This problem has been arising for quite some time but no one seems to acknowledge it. The
problem isn't with the zoos housing the animals it is that there are animals in the wild that are constantly being hunted. These animals need to be
protected and saved from the different dangers they encounter. Zoos provide animals a safe place to live and they also help fund programs assembled
to protect the animals in the zoo and in the wild. They are vital to the survival of many species and therefore should be preserved.
Zoos have been proven to be essential towards the safety and recovery of many animals rescued from the wild. All around the world there are zoos that
house these different species in safe and natural–like environments, they are considered to be safe havens. For example, by being housed in zoos,
"animals do not suffer from the stress of threats or being potentially hunted by their common predators" (Agnew 1). The animals are able to live in
their habitat at the zoo sometimes along with other animals of their species. Each animal has a safe enclosure that suits them and their lifestyle. The
enclosures are not only safe

The Conservation Of Marine Conservation
Marine conservation was traditionally focusing on resolving the common issue where commercial activities exploiting shared resources yielded private
benefits of employment, economic benefits as well as increased harvests. In this process, resources were over–used (Bulte, et al, p.20). Therefore, a
need rose to conserve the common marine resources to yield public goods of biodiversity and ecosystem services that are not taken into
consideration by the marine policies. Unless the public goods nature of marine resources is addressed by the marine policies, provision, as well as
conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services will be a dream to achieve, even if other policies like catch shares and top–down command
measures are put in place (Arriagada and Charles, p.804). This discussion will focus on the various incentives for marine biodiversity conservation
within the typical public good structure.
Public goods are considered as impure when their consumption by an individual lessens but do not eradicate the advantages received by other
people from the intake of similar products. It implies that the goods are partially rival as well as partially excludable. Local public goods are the
commonly known forms of impure public goods, specifically the local common pool resources (Arriagada and Charles, p.801). On a global scale,
biodiversity conservation is a good example of an impure public good. This is because, if there are numerous potential providers, each will improve

Water Conservation : Important Ways And Important Methods...
Water conservation? When you brush your teeth do you leave the water on the whole time? Do you leave paint cans or trash on the ground for the
water to just wash it away? If so think about how much water you waste or pollute? All that water down the drain and that water contaminated.
Most people think that " oh I am only one person out of millions, if I stop it won't matter, I can't make a difference, I can't stop others from doing
the same." if everyone thinks likes this then yes, you will never make a difference, if you think like that. This is why people should practice water
conservation. If we all practice good water conservation skills then we could help save tons of water. There are lots of ways to practice good water
conservation some important ones are to conserve water, help keep the water clean, and help with global warming. These are just a few of some water
conservation methods.
One method of water conservation is conserving water. If everyone wants to make a difference then we could save gallons of water. Here are some
ways to conserve water "take showers, not baths, take shorter showers, fix any kind of leaks, water plants first thing in the morning, use a bucket and
sponge to wash cars and bikes. Don't leave the hose running, which can waste 6 gallons per minute." from " save every drop, water is life". also In one
article it says that " turning off the tap when you brush your teeth can save 8 gallons of water a day." from " save every drop, water is

The Evolution of the World: Industrial-Based, Less...
The evolution of the world toward a more industrial–based society has threatened fisheries, reefs, and maritime systems around the world. To combat
the problems, various measures of legislation and government intervention have been implemented to protect living and nonliving marine entities and
ensure that resources aren't fully depleted.
This paper will look at a number of 'solutions' to the problems that industrial–based, less natural, societies have created for marine life. These 'solutions'
have come in a number of forms, from varying levels of government and agencies. The crees of protections have included legislation. We will look at
formalized legislation from the state level, national level, and supranational level (European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

success of the MMPA, a newly founded Marine Mammal Commission was tasked with ensuring the protection of sea otters and marine otters, walruses,
polar bears, manatees, and dugongs. NOAA was given responsibility to conserve and manage pinnipeds including seals and sea lions and cetaceans
such as whales and dolphins. In their conclusion of their findings, NOAA presented congress with data that showed: "all species and population stocks
of marine mammals are, or may be, in danger of extinction or depletion due to human activities; these mammals should not be permitted to diminish
below their optimum sustainable population", and argued that: "measures should be taken immediately to replenish any of these mammals that have
diminished below that level, and efforts should be made to protect essential habitats; there is inadequate knowledge of the ecology and population
dynamics of these mammals; negotiations should be undertaken immediately to encourage international arrangements for research and conservation of
these mammals" (H.R. Res 10420, 1972). Under the overarching wings of national legislation, California adopted its own Marine Life legislation in

Endangered Species : The Mongoose Lemur
Nature surrounds us everywhere no matter where we go. It is often taken for granted or not taken as seriously as it should be. Throughout the years
many species have drastically evolved while others have gone completely extinct. Some species have gone extinct due to not being able to survive the
changing environment. A lot of the time species have gone extinct because people do not think about nature as something that they should care about.
Conservation is a big issue that is not always thought about or addressed. In this paper there are several topics that will be discussed such as what
conservation status is and who assigns it to species, what critically endangered means and how the status is determined, and details regarding one
critically endangered species: The Mongoose Lemur.
The conservation status of a species tells us whether the species still exists and how likely the species is to become extinct. Conservation status is
determined based on whether the population has increased or decreased over time, their breeding success rates and threats to the species. The
International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) determines the conservation status of a species.
The IUCN Global Species Programme work with the IUCN Species Survival Commission to assess the conservation status of species on a global scale
and have been assessing them for the past 50 years. They promote the conservation of species that are threatened with extinction. The IUCN Red List of

A Report On The Underwater World
I throw on all of my gear on my back and shuffle to the end of the boat to jump off into the deep ocean below. I hold my mask and regulator tight
onto my face as I take the plunge. The underwater world takes on a new persona as its inhabitants are magnified through my goggles. Bubbles float
up past my head as I slowly and deeply breathe through my regulator while keeping my body neutrally buoyant to prevent myself from touching the
marine life below. My fins cut through the water as they attempt to propel me against the strong ocean current over large kelp forests. Fish of all
shapes and sizes swim up to investigate who I am and what I am doing in their underwater world.
I was lucky enough during spring break to take part in an Open Water scuba diving course and receive my diving certification that allows me to dive
anywhere in the world up to eighteen meters deep. Over the weekend, I headed down first to Rye Pier and then Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park
in Victoria to give diving in the ocean a try after taking my first few breaths underwater in a local pool. We began with shore dives and proceeded to
diving off a boat once we felt comfortable in the ocean. Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park was established in November of 2002 as marine
conservation awareness became more prevalent in Victoria as well as throughout Australia. It is home to six marine areas (Swan Bay, Mud Islands,
Point Lonsdale, and Point Nepean) along with the two dive sites that we explored:

Protecting Pygmy Sloth Habitat On The Isla Escudo De Verguas
The plan to protect pygmy sloth habitat on the Isla Escudo de Verguas is to create a team to begin gathering research to develop a Comprehensive
Conservation Plan. The research gathered can be from previous research conducted by a variety of scientists. In addition, new data should be collected
on the current population of Pygmy sloths in addition to the amount of mangroves on the island. This plan will make sure that the endangered
animals on the island are protected and ensure that the refuge management is taking the steps to help recuperate the mangroves that have been cut.
The first step would be to gather a team to head the proposal. Some of the team members should be from the refuge management, as well as people
who are well informed on the animals that inhabit the island and environmental information. Once the team is built, they will need to gather local
fishermen and regular visitors to the island to assess the situation and receive feedback on what they believe to be the largest problems facing the
island. With the help from the local fishermen, who are the ones that are cutting down the pygmy sloth habitat, the refuge management team will be
able to assess the needs of the fishermen as well as the need of the animals to create a plan of action to better ensure the safety of the island. From this
research, the team can create an initial draft of a plan for the next ten or fifteen years. The Comprehensive Conservation Plans should focus on getting

Sylvia Earle's Sea Change: A Message Of The Oceans
Revolutionary marine biologist Sylvia Earle voiced the need for long–term environmental protection in her book Sea Change: A Message of the
Oceans. "I had come to believe that healthy ecosystems are the most important legacy we have from the past, above the ocean or below, and their
protection is the single most important legacy we can bequeath to those who follow" (Earle, 307). This motivation, ensued by policy makers alike,
gave rise to today's marine sanctuaries, commonly known in legislature as marine protected areas (MPAs) or marine reserves. MPAs consist of critical
ecosystems set aside for management or restriction from consequences of human activity and exploitation (NOAA, 2016). Closer examination of the

However, industrial progression of catch technology and global fishing expansion have increased the need for resource protection. Post–World War II
study of fish repopulation in the North Sea indicated seclusion of marine zones from human exploitation as a viable fishery management tactic
(Beverton & Holt, 1957). Since the 1950s, fisheries have expanded in the developing world to attain larger catches (Pauly et al., 2002). Declining
fishing rates spurred the first MPA conference in 1975 to report anthropogenic influences on the marine realm and recommended guidelines for
establishment of international MPAs (IUCN, 1976). In 1982, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) agreed on the Law of
the Sea treaty to provide fisheries jurisdiction and protection of natural resources. The treaty was ratified by 160 countries, yet its implementation today
is still difficult since the ocean is a public resource (Sanchirico, 2016). With increased data collection and monitoring over time, the world continues to

Sea World Gold Coast Australia
Sea World Gold Coast Australia is a marine animal theme park. The park includes rides, shows and marine attractions. Sea World founded Sea World
Research & Rescue Foundation Inc. (SWRRFI) which committed to promote a number of marine research projects and rescue marine organisms'
activities.
Sea World 's goals are to strengthen knowledge for youth about the ocean habitat and ecology of the marine lives, encourage the public about the
marine biodiversity conservation and promote youth education and public awareness. Positioning Sea World as "teach through lively activities" is also
a priority.
Past media coverage of Sea World has been largely marine mammal topics based, with little substantial discussion around animal conservation or Sea
World information. Although the media port of Sea World provides several marine animal contents, it leads to the media relations problem: Sea World
's media releases tend to using marketing strategies that have resulted in an increasing lack of credibility in marine mammal conservation. This does not
align with Sea World goals of youth education and strengthened public awareness.
An opportunity therefore exists for Sea World to improve awareness of marine conservation, ecological populations and research to marine animals in
the short term via media coverage in connection with SWRRF in Queensland.
1.2 Target publics
There are main audiences and publics will be targeted in order to push the opportunity as follows:

Marine Biology And Ocean Conservation
Marine Biology and Ocean Conservation is a very important major. It consists of many fields that deal with marine ecosystems and how they affect the
world around them. Some fields of study are focused on conservation work, which is cleaning up the ocean, protecting wildlife, and rehabilitation. The
ocean is a vast area of water that contains many ecosystems that are beneficial to humans and other organisms. An abundant amount of human waste
ends up in the ocean, which has contaminated marine ecosystems. Pollution is a key factor in the killing of many species of fish and plants, which
affects the cycle of marine life. The limiting of waste and recycling recyclable matter is very important because it will limit the amount of waste that
pollutes the water.
Polyps make up the living portion of corals with strong skeletons. The corals extract calcium from the seawater and combine it with calcium carbonate
to make limestone structures that create the reef. Ocean acidification is another contributor to the killing of species. This process is when the ocean
absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and suffocates all of the living organisms.
If pollution reduction does not occur then many species of plants will not survive and marine plants produce roughly about 60% of the oxygen that is
on Earth. "The world's coral reefs, from the Great Barrier Reef off Australia to the Seychelles off East Africa, are in grave danger of dying out
completely by mid–century unless carbon

However, many fisherman are unable to catch as many fish as they used to, so they are increasingly using cyanide and dynamite in fishing, which
further degrades the coral reef ecosystem.[6] This perpetuation of bad habits simply leads to the further decline of coral reefs and therefore
perpetuating the problem. One solution to stopping this cycle is to educate the local community about why conservation of marine spaces that include
coral reefs is important.[7] Once the local communities understand the personal stakes at risk then they will actually fight to preserve the reefs.
Conserving coral reefs has many economic, social, and ecological benefits, not only for the people who live on these islands, but for people throughout
the world as well. Human impact The deterioration of coral reefs is mainly linked to human activities – 88% of coral reefs are threatened through

The Natural Communities Conservation Planning (NCCP) Act of 1991 was established by the California Legislature, is directed by the Department of
Fish and Game, and is being implemented by the state, and public and private partnerships to protect habitat in California1. As opposed to the single
species interpretation of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), this act aims at protecting many species using a regional approach to habitat preservation.

Whole–habitat preservation suggested in the NCCP will, hopefully, incorporate the necessary elements for adequate protection of a species, allowing it
to thrive in its habitat with the other organisms that it usually shares space with.
The NCCP is designed to allow Orange County and participating counties the opportunity to develop plans for saving what remains of the CSS among
the existing development. In this process counties are asked to account for future urban and farming development. Stakeholder participation is
important in this process for obtaining input from various sectors of the community. Businesses and cities can come forward with plans for future
expansion and development, managers of habitat can come forward with goals and limitations of the habitat and scientists can come forward with
recommendations for size and structure of habitat and ideas for restoration to enhance corridors between habitat.
The NCCP planning program will be implemented in large parts of Orange County, in parts of San Diego County and in portions of Riverside
County. The main areas of interest for this issue paper are located in Orange County and are referred to as Coastal Subarea Reserve and Central

What Is The Difference Between Zoo And Zoo
Zoos and National parks (Wild Sanctuaries) are hugely popular attractions for adults and children alike, but are they actually good? How do you tell
the difference when everyone uses the same words?
National parks or wild sanctuaries are large areas of crowd land set aside for native plants, animals and the places in which they live. National parks
protect places of natural beauty. National park is home to many endemic kinds.
National parks are actually protected areas. IUCN definition of a protected area: "A clearly defined geographical space, recognized, dedicated and
managed, through legal or other effective means, to achieve the long–term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural
values".
Zoos have the potential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The controversy over sanctuaries often comes down to how much the animals are used to draw in paying visitors (including volunteers). Reputable
organizations will have a minimal or no–contact approach to their wildlife unless the animal is never going to be released. The main aim of sanctuaries
is to rescue, rehabilitate and release as many animals as possible, so those which maintain a hands–off approach are usually ones which are keeping
these principles in mind. A lion cub which has been kept in a fence and touched by hundreds of humans can almost never be released back into the
wildlife.
Is there evidence of breeding?
Breeding wild animals in captivity adds to the problem of unwanted animals, which sanctuaries were created to solve. The main problem with facilities
which allow visitors to collaborate and connect with cubs and other larger animals, is that they need to breed or buy a constant supply to keep visitors
coming. And what happens to these cute cubs as they grow up and become too large and unpredictable to interact with tourists? Often old species are
sold to private hunting ranches all over the world, where their habituation to humans makes shooting them much easier.

Deforestation In China Essay
Deforestation affects the Wild Birds China, as a developing country, is now suffering from serious deforestation. While researching, it shows that
North China, is one of the places that have been destroyed a lot in the recent decade. From my perspective, it is critical to raise the awareness of the
general public in China as our environment is rather more fragile than before. Deforestation in North China has been a serious threat to native wild
birds. China is a country with low forest coverage and a fragile ecology. "The forest coverage rate is far below the global average of which is 31%, the
per capita of forest area is only at 1/4 of the world's average, per capita of forest stock only at 1/7 of the world's average"пј€
Forest resources 2016пј‰.
Due to serious deforestation in China, the destruction caused a reduction in biodiversity. There are approximately 1200 species of birds identified in
China, and a large number of them live in the forest. There are 70% of birds living in the forest all year round, or in a certain season of the year.
Forest destruction that cause by human activities and influence the lives of wild birds to a great extent. The range of birds' activities dropped sharply
than before; frequent human activities led to the imbalance of the biological clock of birds and increased the nestlings mortality. Similarly, the
indeterminacy of the birds' breeding season will cause the reduction of the reproductive fecundity and affect the

Analysis Of Whittier Narrows Nature Center
Whittier Narrows Nature Center Conservation of our natural environment is of vital importance. Now, people should preserve nature and protect it. In
addition, it is imperative to realize that, the survival of humanity and many creatures depends mainly on the state of the environment around us. As
matter of fact, science place a relevant part in the conservation of the planet. Moreover, Physical geography is the study of all natural forms and
processes in an environment, also, the field covers the cause and effect of human activity on the environment. "Geographers study the location and
distribution of things–tangible things such as rainfall, mountains, and trees" (Hess, Darrel, Physical Geography, Third California Edition) For this
reason, I decided to visit The Whittier Narrows Center. It is one of the many centers that have been established in US to conserve the most crucial
asset that human beings possess, the environment. Those who study geography realize that it is important to conduct a thorough study on the center
and its activities to identify what makes it such a unique site. This project is providing an insight of the center by describing its natural settings per

The Importance Of National Parks
With ecological problems rising, national parks are seen as a staple in the cause for preservation. National parks were created for the purpose of
preserving major areas of land in order to protect various species, vegetation, and the overall environment of that area. Because most parks contain
intense scenic views, such as the Grand Canyon, many people travel from all over the world to visit them. This large influx of people made national
parks major tourist attractions, which eventually lead to the addition of manmade trails, paved roads, and other attractions to maintain tourism in the
parks. The introduction of humans into these wild preserves created a controversy between various academics and raised the question of how humans
impact national parks. Many see that humans and their machines cause great harm to the protected species, whether it is hikers causing damage to
vegetation, the immense emissions being released from over thousands of cars belonging to tourists, harm brought to animals through human error and
littering, etc. Various academics see human impact within national parks as harmful and that the free reign of humans within parks should be reigned
in to a minimum. However, there are other academics that see human visitation in parks as a benefit rather than a source of damage. Some academics
believe that the national parks are under extreme threats due to the growing decrease in tourism. They argue that the visitor experience within national
parks educates

The Field Trip Report : Translocation Of Native Birds Essay
Wenderholm Field Trip Report
Abstract
Translocation of native birds to offshore islands has been a part of ecological restoration in New Zealand and has started since 1890's. This
translocation to mainland islands was started by the Department of Conservation in the year 1995. Wenderholm Regional Park has an area of 60
hectares maintained for ecological restoration. The area has been fenced to prevent the entry of livestock and the pasture land is reforested. The
ecology of the park was restored to the status of enabling bird release into the park by reducing the number of predators. North Island robins were
introduced into the park in 1999. The productivity rate of the robins was very high. But the dispersal rate has also been high as the young fledged
away to nearby habitats. As the park is linked to adjacent forest areas, it makes it easy for bird dispersal into surrounding areas. The result of such
translocations is not sure and hence further translocations must consider various factors before any bird introductions.
Objectives
According to (Wenderholm Regional Park management plan, 1995) the objectives of the Regional Parks Management Plan include species recovery
and establishing their populations in the suitable habitat. The management goals of Wenderholm Regional Park involve developing the park as a part
of the Regional Parks network and in close ecological association with surrounding landscape. The coastal landscape and forested areas must be
protected and

Marine Conservation And Wildlife Research

  • 1. Marine Biology And Wild Life Conservation All my life I have pursued my fascination for animals and the ocean anywhere from volunteering to going to the University of Rhode Island to getting certified in diving to teaching. With my experiences and passion for the field of marine biology and wild life conservation I know I can make a considerable difference in any research project. My first substantial step toward making a career out of my interests for the oceans and all its aquatic life was my volunteer work at the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration. When I was a sophomore in high school I was accepted into the docent program at the Aquarium. There I was responsible for the safety of the public and animals while providing an educational and inspiring environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After I started at Mystic I got involved with 2 different organizations at my high school that had a huge focus in volunteering and giving back to the immediate community that we were raised in. The first club is a student run volunteer organization called Vision that focused on work in our immediate and surrounding communities. The second organization I received membership into was the Mark Twain Chapter of the National Honors Society. This society was composed of an elite group of students that had high regards for character, service, and education. In order to apply one had to have a GPA of a 3.5 or higher and once you were able to apply you must have 30 recorded hours of community service and then an essay explaining yourself in terms of character, service, and education. Once welcomed into the society, we did volunteer work for the community and other events to help other students improve their abilities in a variety of school topics. The volunteer work from both clubs included helping and participating at our annual blood drive, relay for life, food drives, Christmas present drives, helping elderly care for their lawns, and cleaning up our town's schools' grounds. Each project involved a group effort from everyone involved and we ended up making a huge difference for our community. I still continue to help out in my community by doing beach clean ups and food drives. During ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Conservation And Sustainability Of Oceans, Seas And Marine... Conservation and Sustainability of the Use of Oceans, Seas and Marine Resources for Sustainable Development The UN has created a list of Sustainable Development Goals in order to improve global sustainability. This paper will focus specifically on Goal 14 and its associated targets to "conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development" ("Proposal for Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform"). Measurability of Targets The measurability of a target is the ability to measure progress over a period of time. Targets from Goal 14 are ambiguous and unclear. Certain targets are not measurable, some are, and some can be measured in part. Firstly, some targets are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thirdly, target 14.4 can be measured in part. Because of the nature of illegal activities, it is hard to collect accurate and complete numbers regarding the amount of illegal fishing there is. However, it is possible to increase and measure the number of laws and regulations surrounding this activity. Measurements of Targets The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 was drafted to preserve oceans. This goal describes various targets that are currently measured in part. However, barriers still exist in terms of accurate assessment of certain targets. Currently, to measure target 14.1, there are simulation models based on global waste production and ocean currents that identify zones of floating–debris accumulation in world oceans (Lebreton, Greer, Borrero, 2012). As for non–floating debris, the use of skin samples from sperm whales for the measurement of toxic chemicals and metals in the oceans has been studied (Savery, Catherine, 2013). Such examination would be limited to localization of the whales as well as the number of chemicals absorbed into the skin, and thus may not serve as the best measurement of target 14.1. Target 14.2 is measured in part. A study has been conducted in China about the restoration of marine ecosystems following urbanization and industrialization of the country (Chen, Bin, et al, 2013). Restoration of different habitats including rocky shore systems, seagrass systems, disused

  • 4. Fishery Production Analysis To add to the existing literature on fishery production, this paper presents a comparison analysis of two relatively under–explored specifications: the quadratic and square root production functions. Fixed effects estimation and quantile regression analysis will be employed to determine whether one form is superior to the other. This paper also considers the effects of various government financial transfers and gender–specific postsecondary education rates on fishery output levels. Results indicate the square root specification to be a better–fitting model for the dataset, albeit only slightly preferred. Education levels are found to have non–insignificant effects on fishery output, while government financial transfers have a mostly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, this study will investigate whether the quadratic or square root production function produces a significantly better–fitting model than the other for fishery output, with respect to a select set of inputs, including employment and fleet size, with special attention paid to the effects of various government financial transfers and the overall educational attainment of men and women across OECD countries. The structure of this paper is as follows: a literature review of relevant past studies which incorporated one or more of the explanatory variables selected for this study; list of novel aspects of the study; a brief discussion of underlying economic theory in modelling fishery production; an outline of the models and empirical approach taken in conducting the analysis; description of the dataset; presentation of results and accompanying discussion; and concluding remarks with mention of limitations of the study and possible future considerations. Literature Review Zhang and Smith (2011) similarly conducted a comparison analysis of production functions for fisheries. They tested the validity of a generalized fishery model, using a two–stage estimation method with a bootstrap approach, against the more prevalent Gordon–Schaefer Model, which has been commonly used in computing maximum sustainable fishery yield. Using data on fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico, they find the Schaefer production function to produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critique of the intervention of Sustainable Seafood and Fisheries in Hong Kong: WWF's Seafood Choice Initiative (WWF, 2015) Word Count: 2876 words 1Introduction 1.1 What does sustainable consumption mean and why is an intervention important? Many studies have shown that a large extent of environmental degradation is in fact related to the consumers (Heiskanen and Pantzar, 1997). Consumption has become the predominant and essential phenomena of our lives (Ratneshwar et al., 2000). In order to reduce the negative impacts humans place on the environment, the issue of sustainability has been prioritized since the 1992 World Summit in Rio. Consume sustainably and having a sustainable lifestyle is the fundamental part to favor the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The marine environment has a great impact on the ecology and even climate change in a bigger picture. Hong Kong was once a fishing port back in a century ago with nearly 1000 fish species, but overfishing in the 1970s called it off due to the advancement in fishing technologies and with the lack of fisheries management (WWF, 2014). There is a high consumption ofseafood among people in Hong Kong. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of United Nation (2011), people in Hong Kong consume about 71.2kg per person in one year alone, which is 4.1 times more than the global average and as well as a double of China's consumption. Its per capita consumption of seafood also ranks the 2nd in Asia. This puts huge pressure on marine resources. Their seafood footprint exceeds the actual seafood fair share by nearly 200% (WWF, 2015). Furthermore, studies have found that this vast consumption in Hong Kong is damaging the marine ecology. 12% of the Hong Kong Ecological Footprint in fact comes from their seafood consumption (WWF, 2011). 2Details of the intervention and stakeholders 2.1 The WWF's Seafood Choice Initiatives To respond the negative effects of Hong Kong's seafood consumption on marine environment, WWF Hong Kong joined the global initiative in 2007 due to a raise in awareness on sustainable seafood among consumers and businesses. • 7. Destruction Of Animals : The Importance Of Endangered Species In addition, protecting an animal's habitat is much easier than many people think. Change can start as close as someone's own backyard; anyone can make their own home wildlife friendly. When living close to a forest, it is important to make sure any outside garbage is secured. This will prevent animals such as bears or raccoons from eating or getting hurt by the garbage. Feeding and keeping animals inside is especially important because the food and small animals will often attract scavengers or larger wildlife near homes. Outside of home life, visiting wildlife reservations and sanctuaries can help anyone learn ways to protect wildlife. The sanctuaries and reservations, as well as national parks, are protected areas where animals can live without fear of poachers. Not only do these places teach about the animals and ways to help them, the "wildlife related recreation creates millions of jobs and supports local businesses" (10 Easy Things). The destruction of habitat is the biggest threat to wildlife populations. The sanctuaries and reservations are only helping a small part of the widespread habitat ruination. "Scientists tell us the best way to protect endangered species is to protect the special places where they live. Wildlife must have places to find food, shelter and raise their young. Logging, oil and gas drilling, over–grazing and development all result habitat destruction. Endangered species habitat should be protected and these impacts minimized. By protecting ... • 8. A Brief Note On The Conservation Of Ruins CONSERVATION OF RUINS A heritage ruin is defined as a disused and incomplete place comes in all shapes and sizes, that through abandonment, redundancy or condition, usually no longer maintained and unlikely to serves its original function or purpose other than interpretation (Australian Heritage Council, 2013). Rizzi, added the definition of ruin from architectural point of view: 'A building which having lost a substantial part of its architectural form has ceased to function as such. Elementary, but full of implications: a building that has lost its natural defences (roof, windows, plasters, etc), unarmed against the ravages of atmospheric agents and consequently more vulnerable to the destructive effect of time; A building that has stopped to fulfill its functions, to shelter human activities and which, in a sense, has begun its journey towards progressive decline and final disappearance'. (Rizzi 2007, p.xx). Although the term "ruins" implies the abandoned condition of the building materials, this condition does not resemble the loss of heritage values embedded to it (Australian Heritage Council, 2013). For this reason, it is obvious that heritage ruins are equally as important as any other historic building survived. It is the evidence of past human activity; a "shared resources" that retain important heritage values, and potentially possess tangible and intangible heritage attributes (Drury and McPherson 2008, Australian Heritage Council 2013). • 9. New Transit System for Sunshine Coast As a consequence of the rapidly increasing population of the Sunshine Coast, and therefore rising transport demand, various suggestions have been made in regards to the establishment of a new transit system. Currently, the most favoured option in regards to alternative transport on the Sunshine Coast is that of a light rail line which would link all major destinations and attractions within the region as well as connect with bus and train services in hinterland communities (Deutscher, 2013). In addition, present studies conducted by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council (2013) detail that the light rail would extend from Caloundra to Maroochydore, via the University of the Sunshine Coast. However, the development of the light rail line along this route would involve crossing Currimundi Creek, a critical environmental and tourism feature of the Sunshine Coast. The distinctive and biodiverse environments of this area are crucial for the sustainment of certain conditions that various species rely on for survival (Williams, 2010). Moreover, the Currimundi Catchment is also the habitat of multiple species with 'Conservation Status' as detailed in the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Department of the Environment, 2013). Based on the field work studies completed by local students, as well as the data of secondary sources such as the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management (GCCM), it can be determined that the ... The case study is interesting because it breaks the conventional fight between the government and public as seen in the old National Library's case. Additionally, the case study would highlight the current consciousness of conservation within Singaporeans, and the success of VC project is vital in heralding a new chapter into Singapore's efforts in built heritage conservation. Hence, the dissertation has delved into the various stakeholder's feelings, opinions and thoughts to understand their motivation towards modern architecture conservation. Furthermore, these galleries could also act as space for owners to reminisce and learn about the history of their property, which may heighten their connection and pride towards it. Additionally, LCM could also take inspiration from its neighbours such as the Pinnacle@Duxton for opening up its sky garden to the public at an affordable entry fee. Since PBA boasts a beautiful panoramic view of Singapore, hence they could convert its existing rooftop into a sky garden or propose that the new green tower would be open to public access with a price. All in all, showing the government the public good in PBA could be another way in achieving the conservation status for PBA. Lastly, in light of the importance of land lease in private developments, MND and URA could look into value adding their VC initiative for multi–strata private developments by teaming up with SLA to include land–lease extension if the building is worthy of ... • 14. The Importance Of Marine Conservation Sophie Huggins The role of Marine Protected Areas (MPA's) and why marine conservation is important for saving the ocean for current and future generations. From the air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat, the need for constant medical advances, and to the products that keep us warm, safe, and entertained – all these can come from or be transported by the oceans for human society5. As the oceans cover a large expanse of the earth's surface and are huge ecosystems, our security, economy and survival all require healthy oceans. Whether we live near the coast or far from it, whether we consume seafood or not, life depends on the marine ecosystem. We need to devote more energy into research, monitoring and enforcement of laws in order to increase scientific knowledge, monitor exploitation, protect and prevent degradation and damage to species and their habitats. There are many reasons why the oceans should be conserved and protected. For instance, at any given moment in time, more than 97% of the world's water resides in oceans which means that they make up 99% of liveable space on earth6. The World's oceans provide a sixth of the animal protein that people eat5. More than 8 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the oceans every year, more than 80 percent of marine plastic litter, comes from land–based sources, such as drink bottles and plastic packaging. The remainder comes from sea–based plastics, such as fishing gear that has been dropped or discarded9. This is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Why The Beaver Should Thank The Wolf By Mary Hannibal Not many people understand the seriousness of endangered species. Some sources go as far as trying to prove that the act does more harm than good. They do not realize how drastically their lives can be changed if one part of the food chain is taken away. In the essay "Why the Beaver Should Thank the Wolf" by Mary Hannibal, the essayist explains that a group of environmental nonprofits would challenge the federal government's removal of Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in Wyoming. Hannibal does not explain the EndangeredSpecies Act, but according to the The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration it "provides for the conservation of species that are endangered or threatened throughout all or a significant portion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An ecosystem is a community of interacting organisms and their environment. If one of the organisms is disturbed, it can change the trophic cascade which is a sequence of impacts down the food chain. Hannibal supports this statement by writing "keeping these connections going ensures healthy, functioning ecosystems, which in turn support human life."(578) An example of this is if all of the beavers died the other organisms would go somewhere else or die due because they no longer will have dams to support their ideal habitat. Many organisms in their ecosystems benefit when their predators are around. In paragraphs 4, 5, and 6 Hannibal provides many examples of how having predators is beneficial to the ecosystem. One example is in paragraph 4 when she says; ...elk and other browsing animals behave differently when wolves are around. Instead of eating greenery down to the soil, they take a bite or two, look up to check for threats, and keep moving. The greenery can grow tall enough to reproduce.(578) Because of this, the animals in that ecosystem are able to thrive. Hannibal's main points in these paragraphs point out that there is a specific job for each animal in the food chain which has a direct effect on its ecosystem if something changes. A change could cause a degraded ecosystem which would be far less productive overall. In paragraphs 8, 9, and 10 Hannibal explains an example of sea otters eating the sea urchins which protects ... • 16. Persuasive Essay On Endangered Animals Endangered animals are species that are in danger of extinction. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, they are 7 categories that gauge their status. These 7 are extinct, extinct in wild, critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable, near threatened, and least concern. Contrary to popular belief, these endangered species exist not only in Africa, but all around the world. We all are affected by this catastrophe. Jennifer Bove puts it perfectly in her article titled "Why It Matters When Species Go Extinct" by saying "Like pieces of yarn in a woven tapestry, the removal of one can start unraveling the whole system." She is saying that if an animal is lost due to endangerment, there is always going to be a repercussion that effects the whole ecosystem, or in her words, tapestry. With De–extinction, the problem is nullified in general. By developing the species through replacing the nucleus in the host's unfertilized animal egg with the nucleus of a somatic cell of the species presented, we can produce a solution to the problem of endangered species. I am applying to The Natural Conservancy grant to conduct research on the method of de–extinction and the effect it will have on endangered animals and conservation efforts. Many biologists and ecologists have been trying to find a solution to the problem of endangered animals for some time now. Piaget was interested in the qualitative, not quantitative, characteristics of development. It does not matter that a child can recite multiplication tables unless he understands the concepts behind addition and multiplication of numbers or quantities. Piaget used a number of tasks to test children's scientific thinking and reasoning, many of which specifically tested conservation. The term Conservation is the understanding of constancy of characteristics such as liquid (volume), quantity (mass), length, area or number, despite changes in appearance (Anselmo,p.384). The child's understanding of these situations is 'perception bound'. Moreover the child thinking was focused on states; because he fails to track what has happened to pennies and simply make an intuitive judgement based on how they appear now. Their main aim is to aid in preserving and maintaining healthy ecosystems throughout Scotland's land and seas. Possil Marsh is one of such wildlife reserves, located in the north of Glasgow. Ecology and Conservation students from the University Glasgow visited the reserve on Friday the 14th of October 2016. The intention of this excursion was for students to see first–hand the variety of wildlife which inhibits the reserve and take into consideration the processes of management. This refers to preserving the area whilst still making it accessible to the public. With an area of 78.2 acres, Possil marsh contains a large quantity and variety of habitats to support the inhabiting species. The reserve has a shallow freshwater loch, providing suitability for water birds and many other animals. This water is surrounded by a combination of vegetation including marsh, swamp and fen, with areas of willow scrub and grassland. The fen and swamp areas support locally rare plants specific to this site. The reserve is also proved to be an important staging post during the spring and autumn migration for warblers and waterfowl. • 19. Biodiversity And Conservation Of Marine Biodiversity The world's oceans cover 70 percent of the earth's surface (Allsopp, Page, Johnston, & Santillo, 2009). The oceans biodiversity is increasingly becoming more threatened each year by anthropogenic activities such as pollution, destructive fishing methods, overfishing and commercial agriculture (Tyus, 2012). Marine conservation has improved over the years to protect and preserve ecosystems in oceans and seas. To limit the anthropogenic damage, restore habitats, species and preserve vulnerable marine life (Norse & Crowder, 2005). The term marine biodiversity discusses the abundance of species in a geographical area. (Allsopp et al., 2009). The biodiversity and conservation of marine systems can include a range of different types of habitats, the habitat that will be discussed in this study will be tropical coral reefs of Madagascar (Dobson & Frid, 2009). Coral reefs are the most biologically diverse ecosystem within the oceans (Hill, 2005). At a global scale, they tend to have high species diversity to care and support a large number of fish communities (Tyus, 2012). Coral reefs are recognised as the most pristine marine ecosystem of Madagascar; it is species rich but are also very fragile and threatened (Ahamada, Bijoux, Cauvin, Kooonjul, Maharavo, & Pierre–Louis, 2004). Endemic species inhabit this region such as butterflyfish (Chaetodontidae) and wrasses (Labridae), which show reliable indicators for the reefs health (Nadon, Griffiths, & Doherty, 2005). • 20. The Coastal And Marine Conservation And Management Approaches 1.Introduction The Coastal and marine conservation and management approaches are focused on a restricted area of significant human usage for practises such as; recreational and commercial fishing and leisure, and highly active biologically. The coastal marine ecosystem has been suffering a general tendency of population growth and, nowadays, has been also linked with industrial increase (Pietersen & Beekman 2006). However its benefits might be essential to stakeholders, as a consequence of this constant disproportional growth, the threats are becoming more visual, which also increases the awareness. That, added to the recognition of the coastal environment, existing and emerging threats and important economic value, implies that a feasible management approach is necessary. The difficulties met in planning and management starts at the very first step; identifying and prioritizing the problems (Scherer et al. 2014). Thus, the most feasible and effective approach encountered will be discussed posteriorly to the main threats; such as overfishing, pollution and climate change, in which incorporates ocean temperature rise, sea level rises and ocean acidification (StelzenmГјller & MartГ¬n 2009). 2.Threats It is important to highlight that most coastal environments, due mainly to anthropogenic events, are constantly exposed to the majority of these problems, not individually. Preservation of anything is basically keeping it in such manner that it cannot or should not be touched or used. For instance, if a forest is being preserved it means that it is to be kept untouched and nothing is to be extracted from it. It is to be left to its own accord. On the other hand, conservation implies more towards a sustained use, or use in a sustainable fashion. As in the example given above, if a forest is declared as conserved, it means that resources may be extracted in a systematic and accounted way, so as not to compromise the forests ability to replenish itself in terms of resources, and so that it may continue its intangible functions properly. SUSTAINABILITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: The term refers to the existence and maintenance of a system, on its own accord, over a period of time, or that a system is able to stand and function by itself for a certain duration. Out of that 1.3 million there are about 50,000 species that are endangered or close to being endangered according to the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) Red List. Lately, multiple zoos have been crucified for housing some of these animals. This problem has been arising for quite some time but no one seems to acknowledge it. The problem isn't with the zoos housing the animals it is that there are animals in the wild that are constantly being hunted. These animals need to be protected and saved from the different dangers they encounter. Zoos provide animals a safe place to live and they also help fund programs assembled to protect the animals in the zoo and in the wild. They are vital to the survival of many species and therefore should be preserved. Zoos have been proven to be essential towards the safety and recovery of many animals rescued from the wild. All around the world there are zoos that house these different species in safe and natural–like environments, they are considered to be safe havens. For example, by being housed in zoos, "animals do not suffer from the stress of threats or being potentially hunted by their common predators" (Agnew 1). • 24. The Conservation Of Marine Conservation Marine conservation was traditionally focusing on resolving the common issue where commercial activities exploiting shared resources yielded private benefits of employment, economic benefits as well as increased harvests. In this process, resources were over–used (Bulte, et al, p.20). Therefore, a need rose to conserve the common marine resources to yield public goods of biodiversity and ecosystem services that are not taken into consideration by the marine policies. Unless the public goods nature of marine resources is addressed by the marine policies, provision, as well as conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services will be a dream to achieve, even if other policies like catch shares and top–down command measures are put in place (Arriagada and Charles, p.804). This discussion will focus on the various incentives for marine biodiversity conservation within the typical public good structure. Public goods are considered as impure when their consumption by an individual lessens but do not eradicate the advantages received by other people from the intake of similar products. It implies that the goods are partially rival as well as partially excludable. Local public goods are the commonly known forms of impure public goods, specifically the local common pool resources (Arriagada and Charles, p.801). On a global scale, biodiversity conservation is a good example of an impure public good. This is because, if there are numerous potential providers, each will improve local ... Throughout the years many species have drastically evolved while others have gone completely extinct. Some species have gone extinct due to not being able to survive the changing environment. A lot of the time species have gone extinct because people do not think about nature as something that they should care about. Conservation is a big issue that is not always thought about or addressed. In this paper there are several topics that will be discussed such as what conservation status is and who assigns it to species, what critically endangered means and how the status is determined, and details regarding one critically endangered species: The Mongoose Lemur. Protecting Pygmy Sloth Habitat On The Isla Escudo De Verguas The plan to protect pygmy sloth habitat on the Isla Escudo de Verguas is to create a team to begin gathering research to develop a Comprehensive Conservation Plan. The research gathered can be from previous research conducted by a variety of scientists. In addition, new data should be collected on the current population of Pygmy sloths in addition to the amount of mangroves on the island. This plan will make sure that the endangered animals on the island are protected and ensure that the refuge management is taking the steps to help recuperate the mangroves that have been cut. The first step would be to gather a team to head the proposal. Some of the team members should be from the refuge management, as well as people who are well informed on the animals that inhabit the island and environmental information. Once the team is built, they will need to gather local fishermen and regular visitors to the island to assess the situation and receive feedback on what they believe to be the largest problems facing the island. With the help from the local fishermen, who are the ones that are cutting down the pygmy sloth habitat, the refuge management team will be able to assess the needs of the fishermen as well as the need of the animals to create a plan of action to better ensure the safety of the island. Past media coverage of Sea World has been largely marine mammal topics based, with little substantial discussion around animal conservation or Sea World information. Although the media port of Sea World provides several marine animal contents, it leads to the media relations problem: Sea World 's media releases tend to using marketing strategies that have resulted in an increasing lack of credibility in marine mammal conservation. This does not align with Sea World goals of youth education and strengthened public awareness. An opportunity therefore exists for Sea World to improve awareness of marine conservation, ecological populations and research to marine animals in the short term via media coverage in connection with SWRRF in Queensland. 1.2 Target publics There are main audiences and publics will be targeted in order to push the opportunity as follows: Queensland youths ... • 33. Marine Biology And Ocean Conservation Marine Biology and Ocean Conservation is a very important major. It consists of many fields that deal with marine ecosystems and how they affect the world around them. Some fields of study are focused on conservation work, which is cleaning up the ocean, protecting wildlife, and rehabilitation. The ocean is a vast area of water that contains many ecosystems that are beneficial to humans and other organisms. An abundant amount of human waste ends up in the ocean, which has contaminated marine ecosystems. Pollution is a key factor in the killing of many species of fish and plants, which affects the cycle of marine life. The limiting of waste and recycling recyclable matter is very important because it will limit the amount of waste that pollutes the water. Polyps make up the living portion of corals with strong skeletons. The corals extract calcium from the seawater and combine it with calcium carbonate to make limestone structures that create the reef. Ocean acidification is another contributor to the killing of species. This process is when the ocean absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and suffocates all of the living organisms. If pollution reduction does not occur then many species of plants will not survive and marine plants produce roughly about 60% of the oxygen that is on Earth. "The world's coral reefs, from the Great Barrier Reef off Australia to the Seychelles off East Africa, are in grave danger of dying out completely by mid–century unless carbon ... However, many fisherman are unable to catch as many fish as they used to, so they are increasingly using cyanide and dynamite in fishing, which further degrades the coral reef ecosystem.[6] This perpetuation of bad habits simply leads to the further decline of coral reefs and therefore perpetuating the problem. One solution to stopping this cycle is to educate the local community about why conservation of marine spaces that include coral reefs is important.[7] Once the local communities understand the personal stakes at risk then they will actually fight to preserve the reefs. Conserving coral reefs has many economic, social, and ecological benefits, not only for the people who live on these islands, but for people throughout the world as well. The Natural Communities Conservation Planning (NCCP) Act of 1991 and California The Natural Communities Conservation Planning (NCCP) Act of 1991 was established by the California Legislature, is directed by the Department of Fish and Game, and is being implemented by the state, and public and private partnerships to protect habitat in California1. As opposed to the single species interpretation of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), this act aims at protecting many species using a regional approach to habitat preservation. Douglas Wheeler has written a nice synopsis of the NCCP within the context of the history of conservation of habitat. The NCCP is a program that is meant to have voluntary multi–stakeholder cooperation in planning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whole–habitat preservation suggested in the NCCP will, hopefully, incorporate the necessary elements for adequate protection of a species, allowing it to thrive in its habitat with the other organisms that it usually shares space with. The NCCP is designed to allow Orange County and participating counties the opportunity to develop plans for saving what remains of the CSS among the existing development. In this process counties are asked to account for future urban and farming development. Stakeholder participation is important in this process for obtaining input from various sectors of the community. Businesses and cities can come forward with plans for future expansion and development, managers of habitat can come forward with goals and limitations of the habitat and scientists can come forward with recommendations for size and structure of habitat and ideas for restoration to enhance corridors between habitat. The NCCP planning program will be implemented in large parts of Orange County, in parts of San Diego County and in portions of Riverside County. The main areas of interest for this issue paper are located in Orange County and are referred to as Coastal Subarea Reserve and Central Subarea Reserve. Coastal Subarea Reserve is located in the San Joaquin Hills area of Orange County. Central Subarea Reserve is located within the unincorporated county jurisdiction2. • 37. What Is The Difference Between Zoo And Zoo Zoos and National parks (Wild Sanctuaries) are hugely popular attractions for adults and children alike, but are they actually good? How do you tell the difference when everyone uses the same words? National parks or wild sanctuaries are large areas of crowd land set aside for native plants, animals and the places in which they live. National parks protect places of natural beauty. National park is home to many endemic kinds. National parks are actually protected areas. IUCN definition of a protected area: "A clearly defined geographical space, recognized, dedicated and managed, through legal or other effective means, to achieve the long–term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values". Zoos have the potential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The controversy over sanctuaries often comes down to how much the animals are used to draw in paying visitors (including volunteers). Reputable organizations will have a minimal or no–contact approach to their wildlife unless the animal is never going to be released. The main aim of sanctuaries is to rescue, rehabilitate and release as many animals as possible, so those which maintain a hands–off approach are usually ones which are keeping these principles in mind. A lion cub which has been kept in a fence and touched by hundreds of humans can almost never be released back into the wildlife. Is there evidence of breeding? Breeding wild animals in captivity adds to the problem of unwanted animals, which sanctuaries were created to solve. The main problem with facilities which allow visitors to collaborate and connect with cubs and other larger animals, is that they need to breed or buy a constant supply to keep visitors coming. And what happens to these cute cubs as they grow up and become too large and unpredictable to interact with tourists? Often old species are sold to private hunting ranches all over the world, where their habituation to humans makes shooting them much easier. Are zoos good for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Deforestation In China Essay Deforestation affects the Wild Birds China, as a developing country, is now suffering from serious deforestation. While researching, it shows that North China, is one of the places that have been destroyed a lot in the recent decade. From my perspective, it is critical to raise the awareness of the general public in China as our environment is rather more fragile than before. Deforestation in North China has been a serious threat to native wild birds. China is a country with low forest coverage and a fragile ecology. "The forest coverage rate is far below the global average of which is 31%, the per capita of forest area is only at 1/4 of the world's average, per capita of forest stock only at 1/7 of the world's average"пј€ Forest resources 2016пј‰. Due to serious deforestation in China, the destruction caused a reduction in biodiversity. There are approximately 1200 species of birds identified in China, and a large number of them live in the forest. There are 70% of birds living in the forest all year round, or in a certain season of the year. Forest destruction that cause by human activities and influence the lives of wild birds to a great extent. The range of birds' activities dropped sharply than before; frequent human activities led to the imbalance of the biological clock of birds and increased the nestlings mortality. Similarly, the indeterminacy of the birds' breeding season will cause the reduction of the reproductive fecundity and affect the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Analysis Of Whittier Narrows Nature Center Whittier Narrows Nature Center Conservation of our natural environment is of vital importance. Now, people should preserve nature and protect it. In addition, it is imperative to realize that, the survival of humanity and many creatures depends mainly on the state of the environment around us. As matter of fact, science place a relevant part in the conservation of the planet. Moreover, Physical geography is the study of all natural forms and processes in an environment, also, the field covers the cause and effect of human activity on the environment. "Geographers study the location and distribution of things–tangible things such as rainfall, mountains, and trees" (Hess, Darrel, Physical Geography, Third California Edition) For this reason, I decided to visit The Whittier Narrows Center. It is one of the many centers that have been established in US to conserve the most crucial asset that human beings possess, the environment. Those who study geography realize that it is important to conduct a thorough study on the center and its activities to identify what makes it such a unique site. This project is providing an insight of the center by describing its natural settings per Physical Geography. The paper will focus on the center's location, geographical settings, weather, climate, plants and trees, soils, wildlife, terrain, local history and a site map. • 41. The Importance Of National Parks With ecological problems rising, national parks are seen as a staple in the cause for preservation. National parks were created for the purpose of preserving major areas of land in order to protect various species, vegetation, and the overall environment of that area. Because most parks contain intense scenic views, such as the Grand Canyon, many people travel from all over the world to visit them. This large influx of people made national parks major tourist attractions, which eventually lead to the addition of manmade trails, paved roads, and other attractions to maintain tourism in the parks. The introduction of humans into these wild preserves created a controversy between various academics and raised the question of how humans impact national parks. Many see that humans and their machines cause great harm to the protected species, whether it is hikers causing damage to vegetation, the immense emissions being released from over thousands of cars belonging to tourists, harm brought to animals through human error and littering, etc. Various academics see human impact within national parks as harmful and that the free reign of humans within parks should be reigned in to a minimum. However, there are other academics that see human visitation in parks as a benefit rather than a source of damage. Some academics believe that the national parks are under extreme threats due to the growing decrease in tourism. They argue that the visitor experience within national parks educates ... • 42. The Field Trip Report : Translocation Of Native Birds Essay Wenderholm Field Trip Report Abstract Translocation of native birds to offshore islands has been a part of ecological restoration in New Zealand and has started since 1890's. This translocation to mainland islands was started by the Department of Conservation in the year 1995. Wenderholm Regional Park has an area of 60 hectares maintained for ecological restoration. The area has been fenced to prevent the entry of livestock and the pasture land is reforested. The ecology of the park was restored to the status of enabling bird release into the park by reducing the number of predators. North Island robins were introduced into the park in 1999. The productivity rate of the robins was very high. But the dispersal rate has also been high as the young fledged away to nearby habitats. As the park is linked to adjacent forest areas, it makes it easy for bird dispersal into surrounding areas. The result of such translocations is not sure and hence further translocations must consider various factors before any bird introductions. Objectives According to (Wenderholm Regional Park management plan, 1995) the objectives of the Regional Parks Management Plan include species recovery and establishing their populations in the suitable habitat. The management goals of Wenderholm Regional Park involve developing the park as a part of the Regional Parks network and in close ecological association with surrounding landscape. The coastal landscape and forested areas must be protected and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
