Target audience
The target audience for my magazine will be from 18-30 for both genders who
share an interest in a variety of different genres, but mostly including artist
from the indie rock genre or artist who are very well regarded with a mature
following. The target audience would also be social classes C1- B as the
magazine caters to people who are well educated being that the content is
articulate, the language isn’t unsophisticated and will engage an intelligent
audience. Another reason why the target audience ranges from these social
classes is due to the affordability of the luxury, the magazine is available to
subscribers online, but the magazine be affordable to most people.
Publishing date
The magazine will be published monthly to keep the audience engaged
and will included contemporary news on artists such as album releases
and up and coming events. The fact that the magazine is published
monthly means that they will not run out of interesting content that does
not appeal to the audience, it will also create suspension as it gives
teasers throughout the month on what the magazine may cover and whom
it will include. The time period allows them to promote the magazine for
a longer period of time, whereas if it were bimonthly, it could be seen as
too long a wait or too short.
Magazine Price
The magazine will be at a reasonable cost for the frequency it is published as
it will cost £3.50. This price was decided due to the amount of content that
magazine also covers which is more than magazine such as ‘Kerrang!’ or
‘Hello.’ The magazine is published monthly meaning that the audience aren’t
expected to pay too much each week. The fact that the audience are of an
average social class meaning that they should be able to afford it each
month. The first couple of issues will start at a lower price to attract the
audience more and the gradually it will become more expensive once it had
already attracted a wide and loyal following.
The magazine cover will be glossy like Q magazine due to it being of a higher
standard and not easily ruined or tore; this is due to the amount that the
audience pay as they would expect a good, sustainable quality. It also would
appeal to the target audience due to their social class being B, C2, and C1.
Appearance
Features
The artist that will feature on the album is an up and coming male artist who is of
the indie rock genre. It is important that the first article will have an indie rock
artist on the cover because it sets the tone of the magazine and attracts the right
audience. This artist was chosen because he is a relatively new artist who was
receiving a new following of people. With the new artist featuring on the
magazine it will interest the audience who are constantly looking for new music to
listen to; it also gains the artist a wider audience and benefits both the magazine
and the artist. The magazine will feature sections that cover information on the
artist’s gigs, recent events, and information on albums that will be released.
There will also be a section that gives the readers inside information on the
artist’s music and how certain aspects of the artist’s music were thought up or
where ideas may have originated from.
Appealing to the audience
The magazine will appeal the target audience as it will contain articles on
contemporary artists that the target age, 16-30, would be interested in.
There are also some parts of the magazine that will discuss older artists
that the older audience will be aware of due to the age range being
rather wide, they must keep the adults engaged with magazine as well as
the teenagers. The audience’s age suggest that they will be into all the
current trends and therefore will be kept intrigued by the recent gigs and
fads that artist are into.
The publisher I have chosen in Bauer due to them having many links with other media
outlets which will enable them to promote the magazine from places such as radio and
television therefore gaining a wider audience. The company also own many radio stations
where the audiences will obviously be interested in music and thus allow them to gain the
right type of audience. Bauer also have a large following of ‘Milennials’ which are people
aged 16-34 years, this is useful as the target audience of my magazine fits into the Bauer’s
age range.
