Proposal
1. Genre:
I have decided to create an indie magazine that
transcends genres to give an eclectic mix of styles. It will
contain a variety of different types of genres each month,
and will feature established and popular artist as well as,
articles or interviews on new upcoming artists/bands.
I have chosen this style of magazine because it is simplistic
and appealing to the audience's eye. In addition the fact it
features a variety of genres will also broaden my target
audience; increasing the amount of purchases, as there
will be something featured inside that all types of people
can identify with. There is many important features I
consider that create a successful magazine such as, you
need to have relevant, interesting images, articles and
interviews which all should adhere to the audience's
preferences and needs. (especially the primary audience)
2. Frequency:
I have decided I would publish my magazine monthly, because I want my
magazine to be seen as a professional, and high quality magazine which includes
content of my issue and the general appearance of it. Publishing it monthly would
help me achieve this goal, as we have longer to create the magazine and research
the content will want to include inside it. There would be an increased number of
pages inside my monthly issue as I have more time to produce more pages, plus
their would be more news of the artist/bands I need to include. My monthly issue
will include updates of the music industry and artist over the past month, rather
than just that week. The content on these pages will be more detailed in its
explanation and will be longer, in comparison to a weekly issue which would be
short and brief and completed in a low quality.
3. Target Audience:
My primary audience would be die hard readers, who
buy the magazine every month, and are most likely
subscribed to it, as buying this magazine becomes a
part of their daily routine in their life. My magazine
would be aimed at both genders aged 16-25
(B,C1,C2,E) as it will include features that older teens,
still in education and adults in their early twenty's can
relate and identify with, as they will find it interesting.
My secondary audience would be aged 25+ and would
consist of collectors and other leisure readers of both
genders. There would be classed as ABC1 as they are
aged over 25 meaning they would be in the working
class so they can easily pay for the magazine, rather
than especially budgeting money so you can buy the
magazine.

4. Similar Magazine:
Billboard, and Vibe are two well known, popular music
magazines that I would want to use as inspiration when
coming to create my magazine as they fulfil the fun and
youthful tone I would want to recreate. Both magazine
include features that I believe are important in creating a
successful music magazine, such as the professional and
simplistic layout which is appealing to the audience's eye and
is clear and easy to understand. They additionally include
interesting articles that I would want to mimic as these
magazine are successful with their readers and sales.
5. Content:
I would include a variety of features in my magazine from
interviews and articles with established artist and bands along
with new upcoming artists. I will also include photographs of
studio shots with close up of artists so when they are in my
magazine my audience can identify and connect with them. I
will also include location shots live from festivals, concerts
and gigs making my magazine more interesting and appealing.
I will also include images and articles which consist of
information on the latest gossip of what's going on in the
music industry every month. I will also maybe include regular
features every month of the latest top 20 songs that are most
popular and the new upcoming songs that could make the list.
6. Ideas:
At this stage I have a variety of ideas of what to include in my up coming
magazine. Including both studio and location shots for my photography as
it will make my magazine look more interesting and appealing, some of
which could include shots of upcoming artists and established artists taken
in a studio. Or photographs taken live at festivals, concerts and gigs from
behind the scenes or from the audience. I additionally want to use bright
colours against a dark main colour and gels for my photographs to convey a
sense of fun and youth throughout my magazine when I created it, relating
to my target audience.
7. Mood/Value of
Magazine:
When creating my magazine, I would want it to have variety of purposes. I would want it to be fun
and relaxed which fulfils its entertainment purposes meaning the audience feel happy and
comfortable when reading it, and they look forward to escaping their stress of their normal lives
when they open the pages. I would additionally want my magazine to be slightly informative so it
could be occasionally used for education purposes on the latest in the music industry. I would want
my magazine to be edgy and simplistic so its clear and appealing and stress free when reading. I
would also want a main house colour which is used throughout, therefore making my magazine
identifiable when people go to purchase a magazine inside a high street shop.
8. Publicity:
As my primary audience is 16-25 year olds social media would be
important asset to my success of my magazine as my primary
audience is 16-25 year olds and social media is primarily used by
them, meaning it would be an effective way to publicize my new
upcoming magazine as they would see the newest updates straight
away in front of them on all their social media which they use
constantly. Other successful magazines such as Q use tweets along
the bottom of each of the page, showing reviews and opinion of the
public. I think this is effective because it makes the magazine
personalised by the public and gives them a chance to connect and
identify with the magazine. I would additionally create a website and
subscription services as well as publicizing over social media because
it would be more in depth and contain more detail, so can be used to
inform my audience in addition with entertaining them. Having info
on social media is effective because it's easily accessible and clear
and easy to read.
9. Unique Selling
Point:
At this stage I am thinking my unique selling point would be that I
would focus on all things behind the scenes in the music industry.
Wethers that's from behind the scenes when artists are recording
their music video or interview or photoshoots, or from behind the
scenes at festivals, concerts or gigs. I think this will be effective and
unique because it's an interesting way for the audience to connect
and identify with my magazine, as they would feel they are behind
the scenes too.
