Frequency of Release
This music magazine will be released
monthly as this magazine will contain
more information than a weekly
music magazine and this magazine
will be more expensive.
Price
The price of the magazine is £4.20, is released monthly and
therefore there will be more content in the magazine . This will
make the audience feel as if the magazine is more exclusive than
the weekly music magazine. This is the same price as my magazine
of inspiration of Q magazine.
Brand Identity
On the right hand
corner of the
magazine is my logo
and the issue number,
which will be
repeated as brand
Identity. In addition,
there will be some
mention of synergy
with the social media
account, which my
magazine will have.
Genre
Image
There will be the main image on the front cover of the
magazine. The artist mentioned will be famous or upcoming.
This will have different eclectic music and therefore there
will be an eclectic artist mentioned on the front cover of the
magazine. The image will be a mid-shot of the artist, the
mid-shot will include their facial expression, body language
and quotes from their interview.
Genre
My music magazine will have this
gerne of eclectic of music. The
content of my music magazine
will be like Q magazine. This is
important because my music
magazine will educate the
younger target audience about
the older style of music such as
Queen and David Bowie, while
the music magazine will educate
the older target audience about
music of today like Kanye West or
Sam Smith, so they will
understand more about the 21st
century music cultural.
Colour Theme
The colour scheme of the magazine is red, black, white and maybe
gold on the masthead, so this will suggest that buying our magazine is
a special occasion and a celebration. I have chose these colours for
the music magazine as they are eye-catching for the target audience.
The masthead will be similar to Mojo magazine. However the main
colour of the magazine will be black and white.Target Audience
My music magazine will have the target
audience between the ages of 15-30 year old,
as the content of my music magazine will have
the genre of eclectic music. The statistics of Q
magazine is where I have based my idea. Also
Q magazine reveal that most of the music
magazine highest target audience come from
the teenagers 15-24. Moreover, the front
cover of my music magazine will feature artist
that the different age range will known and
like. Also someone in the magazine that males
and females will appeal to, so both gender will
buy the music magazine.
The socio-economic needs of my audience will
be in the D and E of the chart. This is
important because this will included students,
they will have a bigger interest in music and
may want to know more about the past
famous music artists like David Bowie.
Mastheads For First Magazine
One of the mastheads for my music is “EXCLUSIVE”. The word “Exclusive” is a
buzzword. This is why I might call my music magazine “EXCLUSIVE”. Another
reason why I might call my music magazine ““EXCLUSIVE” is because it will contain
“Exclusive” music information that you can’t read anywhere else. The word
“EXCLUSIVE” suggests that the audience is receiving the VIP treatment, as my
magazine is one of a kind.
Another, masthead idea for my music magazine is “E” as this suggests that my
music magazine is the messenger from the artist to the audience who is buying my
music magazine. Another, reason why I might have chosen “E” as a possible
masthead for my music magazine is because my music magazine will be the voice
of music and therefore any age range of audience are welcome to buy my music
magazine.
Straplines For First Magazine
“Hear Our Voice” as a strapline reveals that my music
magazine is the voice between the artist and the
audience buying the magazine. This suggests that we are
an up and coming music magazine and we are
determined to be the best music magazine in the world.
Another strapline for my music magazine is “The Music
Magazine of the World” revealing that there is the place
in the market for a new and fresh music magazine for the
world as the rest of the magazines have lose their edge as
they care more about profits than the music and
discovering new artists. Also this connotes that my music
magazine is a gift to the world and a blessing as this will
give exclusives information.
Summary of Ideas
 EXCLUSIVE will contain music from different time periods. The
magazine will be about the artists and the bands who will
meet this expectation and who are well known and respected
in the music industry. This music will contain an electric mix of
genre, which means it will features pop, indie and rock music.
The magazine will be A4which means the height of the
magazine will be 21.6cm and the width of the magazine will
be 28.3cm.
 The colours scheme of my magazine will be red and gold as it
is bold, eye catching and exciting to read. I want the style of
my magazine to be simple and classic so that it will be easier
for the target audience to read. The front for my magazine
will be simple and bold as this will appeal to the target
audience and therefore they will buy it.
Gold Red Adele David Bowie
Intended Target Audience
The target audience that my music will be targeted at are males and females between the ages between 15-
24. The Maslow theory of Q magazine is that the audience are “survivors” who will be there every month and
therefore they will buy my magazine every month. They will gain the knowledge about the music by reading
the magazine.
Also they will be ‘explorers’ as they like to know about different music information and also explore different
electric mix genres of music. This will mean that will looking through my magazine to gain information about
their favourite artists/bands, different genres of music and the music industry.
The Katz theory of Q magazine will be personal identification, so the audience can relate to the singers and the
bands’ situation and lifestyle. This will mean that the target audience will be able to form a close bond to these
singers and bands after hearing about a situation. This is called a personal relationship.
In addition, my music magazine will be able to teach the target audience about different music so that the
audience can learn new facts and information about artists/bands.
The magazine will have a simple layout so that it will be easy to read the interview. The double page layout
which I will be designing will be similar to the Q magazine interview page.

Target Audience

economic-needs.png
• The ABC1 profile is 70%, which means that is demographic profile.
• The target will have a high income. So they can afford to buy the music
magazine monthly.
• The socio- economic reveals that more males than female read Q
magazine.
• So by looking at the socio- economic and ABC1 profile this will help me
to think of an idea to encourage more females to read EXCLUSIVE as
well as male.
• Q magazine is male dominated as it features male artists and bands.
• One way to have a higher readership of females reading EXCLUSIVE is to
have female singers and bands in the EXCLUSIVE.
• The popular age range for Q magazine is 15-24.
• Different styles of genre of artists and also feature artists from different
generation. This will attract the different age range of target audience
to read EXCLUSIVE.

• The Hartley’s 7 subjectivities look at a
person’s age, gender, class, ethnicity, self-
image, nation and family.
• This reveals that EXCLUSIVE readership is
between the ages of 15- 24.
• The target audience will be on the E section
of the Hartley’s 7 subjectivities chart.
• The E section refers to unemployed, students,
pensioner or casual worker.
Target Audience
• The Maslow theory of Q magazine will “survivors”
be there every month. As they will gain knowledge
about the music featured by the magazine.
• Also be ‘explorers’ as they like to know about
different music information and also explore
different genre of music as well.
• The Maslow theory of EXCLUSIVE will be the same
as Q magazine, but my audience will also be
“caregiver” .
• This means sympathise with the artists and bands
situation if something happens in their life. The
audience can see them more as the person than a
celebrities.
• My target audience for my music magazine will be
“Social Climbers”.
• The audience will be determine to improve their
quality of life and their status in society.
• The Katz theory of Q magazine will be personal
identification, so the audience can relate to the
singers and bands situation and lifestyle.
• The audience will form a close bond to these
singers and bands after hearing about a
situation. This is called a personal relationship.
• EXCLUSIVE, will also inform and educate the
audience as they will learn something new
about the artists and bands.

• The psychographic of Q magazine would be “explorers”. They would discover
different types of music they haven’t heard before and also this would be
found in the younger demographic (students) which will be found on the
demographic table.
• Another, psychographic of Q magazine would be “aspirers”.
• They will be aspired by the celebrity singers and bands’ appearance, fashion
and persona, they will look up the singer and bands as a role model.
• However, one target audience will also be “succeeders”.
• They will be confidence in their belief in music and also they will set goals for
themself to achieve any challenges they have for themselves.

Mood Board
I have chosen this font for my
music magazine because this is
simple and bold. Also this font is
easy to read for my target
audience.
I want to include old style of music like the
Beatles so this will appeal to the older target
audience, so they will buy and music
magazine and therefore my music magazine
will be more popular. In addition, the old style
of music could teach the younger audience,
how much music has changed over a period
of time and teach them more about the music
industry.
As well as including an old style of music, I
also want to include contemporary music
like Kayne West as this could appeal to the
younger target audience.
This could also teach them about the
modern day music industry and want
talent you need to be in the music
industry.
The colour wheel will
help me decide what
colour I should include
in my music magazine.
In addition, this will
help me because I know
what colour is best
suited for each other.
This picture of Bjork denotes
that I want my music
magazine to be bright, bold
and unique. I also want my
music magazine to be as
colourful as this, which I hope
will be eye catching for the
target audience.
This is the symbol for
Facebook. This reveals
that my music magazine
will on social magazine to
keep close with the target
audience, as they can see
my music magazine daily
update.

I have decided the colour theme for my magazine will be black and white, as
both of the colours can be used for the font and also the background.
Moreover, the primary colour of the magazine is red, as red is a bold and bright
colour. In addition, I will have the colour gold as the font. Moreover, my
magazine will included the colour blue, as both of the colour are fresh and
clean. This mean that they will stand out because both of the colours are bright.
Price
The price of the magazine will be £4.20 like my
magazine of inspiration , Q magazine, this is because
my music magazine frequency will be monthly,
therefore my music magazine will contain more
information, than a cheaper and a weekly magazine.

Genre
Like my magazine of inspiration,
Q magazine. The genre of my
music magazine will be eclectic.
This is important because, with a
eclectic genre, this will be more
interesting to read or to look at
pictures from the past. Moreover,
the reason why I have chose an
eclectic genre for my magazine is
because you will attract a
different target audience and also
people who like different style of
music to read. Another magazine,
which I have researched is NME,
who have a similar genre than Q
magazine
Frequency of Release
My music magazine will be released
monthly because there will be more
content in the music magazine. Moreover,
you can tell that the frequency of release
is monthly because on the barcode it will
have the release date on it.
Image
There will be a main image on the front cover of the
magazine. The artist will be famous or an upcoming artist
that will be mentioned. This will have different eclectic
music and therefore there will be an eclectic range of artists
mentioned on or in the front cover of the magazine.
The image will be a mid-shot of the artist, the mid-shot will
include, their facial expression, body language and quotes
they have said from the interview.
Brand Identity
On the corner of the
right hand side of
the magazine, there
will be my logo and
the issue number,
which will be
repeated as brand
Identity. Moreover,
by the brand
identity you can
associated with the
music magazine.
Target Audience
My music magazine will have the target audience
between the ages of 15-30 year old, as the content
of my music magazine will have the genre of eclectic
music. The statistics of Q magazine is where I have
based my idea. Also Q magazine reveal that most of
the music magazine highest target audience come
from the teenagers 15-24. Moreover, the front
cover of my music magazine will feature artists that
the different age range will know and like. Also
someone in the magazine that will appeal to
females to encourage them to buy the music
magazine. However, males can buy the magazine as
well.
The socio-economic need of my music magazine will
be D and E for the students and the young adult,
they will be exploring their music interests, and also
exploring different artists or bands that they may
not heard off before. Moreover, the price of the
music magazine is cheap, as they buy the magazine
monthly, which could be in their budget of living.
Mastheads For Second Magazine
One masthead for my second music magazine is
“E”. The “E” will stand for “Explore” as all of the
information in my music magazine will be high
quality and exclusive to my magazine. This will
also copy the style of my magazine of inspiration
as the name of the magazine has a single letter.
Another masthead idea for my music magazine
is “Volume” this reveals that music magazine will
be an aggressive music magazine as my music
magazine will be unique and outstanding.
Straplines For Second Magazine
The first strapline for my music magazine will be “Explore
the Life of Music” this is mainly targeted at the younger
target audience because they have to experience music
and the different genre, so they can find their style of
music. Another, reason why this will be a suitable strapline
for my music magazine is because this means that they are
finding themselves with my magazine and helping them
grow as a person .
Also this will a suitable strapline “Discover Great Music”
because the target audience will find the best music
information in my music magazine because my music
magazine will contain high quality information. This also
suggests that my target audience will be ‘Explorers’ as they
will be exploring through my music magazine.
Summary of Ideas
 The second is called E, which will stand for Explore. The genre
of my magazine will be an eclectic mix of genre. The artists
and bands will be well known but will also feature up and
coming artists. This is important as this a way for the up and
coming artists to be noticed. This music will feature all artists
that agree to be a part of E magazine.
 The magazine will be A4 which means the height of the
magazine will be 21.6cm and the width of the magazine will
be 28.3cm. The colours scheme of my magazine will be red
and gold as it is bold, eye catching and exciting to read. This
magazine will compare to a celebration as the information
will be so exclusive and exciting. They will want to share the
magazine with everyone they know. The font is bold and
simple, so that it will be readable to my target audience. In
addition, the letter E will be in a red box like Q magazine.
Gold Red Elton John Meghan TrainorRed
Intended Target Audience
This magazine will be targeted at both males and females between the ages of 15-24.
My target audience will be “caregiver” as they will understand and sympathise with the artist or bands
when something happens in their musical or personal life. The “caregiver” is a section from the Maslow
theory. In addition, my target audience for my music magazine will be “Social Climbers” as the audience
will be determined to improve their quality of life and their status in society.
The Katz theory of Q magazine will be personal identification, so the audience can relate to the singers
and bands situation and lifestyle. This will mean that the target audience will be able to form a close
bond to the singers and bands after hearing about a situation. This is called a personal relationship.
In addition, my music magazine will be able to teach the target audience about different music. So that
the audience can learn new facts and information about artists/bands.
The double page spread will be interesting as their will be two images of the artist. The first one is going
to be large and therefore stand out. However, the second image will be included in the interview as it
will appeal to the target audience because it is more fun and interesting to read.

• The ABC1 profile is 70%, which means that the demographic

• Q magazine is a male dominated magazine. To make more

• By referring to the Hartley’s 7 subjectivities which is looking
at a person age, gender, class, ethnicity, self-image, nation

• This reveals that Q magazine readership are between the
ages of 15- 24.
• The target audience will be students.
• Students are in the section of the E section of the Hartley’s 7
subjectivities chart.
• The reason why students will be most likely to buy a music
magazine is because they will be interested in music. Want
to see what different music offered them.
• So by referring to the Hartley’s 7 subjectivities, my magazine
will be targeted at the E, D and maybe C2 section of the
chart.
Target Audience
• The Maslow theory of E magazine will “survivors”
• As they will gain the knowledge about the music by
the magazine.
• They would be ‘explorers’ as they like to know

This is the symbol for
twitter, a social media
website. This will inform us
that my music magazine will
be on social media, which
means the audience can
subscribe to the magazine
to hear about the latest
gossip or news about my
music magazine.
This is an example of a masthead
for a music magazine. This
connotes that my masthead will
be similar to Mojo masthead, as
its spell out the name of the
music magazine.
The colours will contain
hidden meanings that will
be eye catching for my
target audience.
This is a style which I will want for
my music magazine, as this is
simple and bold. Moreover, this
font is easy to read, so my audience
can read the the title of the
magazine easily.
This is a picture of a modern
day artist, Ellie Goulding. As
this picture will attract the
younger audience to read
this music magazine.
Moreover, the older
audience will know what
the younger audience is
interested in and therefore,
they can compare how
music has changed.
This is a picture of the Rolling
Stones, to attract the older
audience to my music magazine.
This is important because they
can read about singers/bands
from their childhood and also
enjoy reading them.
Graphic Layout Front Cover
I used my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine for my layout of the magazine. On the first layout of the
magazine, the masthead is different, as for Q masthead, it is in a box, whilst my masthead is spread
out. However this is more similar to Mojo as the strapline is under the masthead like in Q magazine.
However my second layout has the same masthead as Q magazine however the puff promotion is
different as the puff promotion on my second layout is more eye catching for the target audience.
Graphic Layout Front Double Page
Spread
For the double page spread, this will help to guide me where I should put my interview and also the main
picture of the artist who is being interviewed. The first graphic layout is inspired by Q magazine as the
interview was in at the bottom not in columns like the second graphic idea. However in both of my ideas,
the headline quote is on the main image. As they both mention the masthead and the issue number of the
magazine. However the first idea is on the right hand corner like Q magazine but my second idea is on the
top of the magazine , so the target audience know what magazine and issue number they are reading.

Manbow
For my music magazine, the masthead/logo will be bold and eye-catching. Therefore, when my music magazine is on the shelves in the
shops, my music magazine must be easy to read.
My masthead/logo is not similar to my magazine of inspiration Q magazine, as my masthead is one word and across the front cover,
when my magazine of inspiration is at the left top corner of the magazine in a red box with one letter in the box. However, my music
magazine is more similar to Mojo as the masthead is across the music magazine. However, the font of my masthead is gold, whilst the
Mojo masthead change between the colour of black and white.
For my logo I have chosen the font ‘manbow’ from the website “dafront” , which is very easy to read and eye catching. I have chosen
this font for the music magazine because it has a 1950s styles to the font. I have done four different tests on “dafront” so I could decide,
which font I should use for my masthead/logo for my music magazine. This is what my font will look like in my music magazine.
House Style Consistency
By looking at different font and colour for my music magazine,
now I am able to create my front page and also the double
page spread, which has the same colour theme through my
music magazine.
The masthead of my music magazine, “Exclusive” will be
mentioned on all of of pages of my music magazine. As, the
masthead will be at the bottom of the page next to the page
number of the magazine.
When I develop my masthead on photoshop, I will create the
main logo. I chose to make my colour of the font gold, because
it will make it appealing to my audience , as it is not like the
other music magazine, as the masthead is bold and eye
catching as well as simple.
Masthead Font Ideas
Font Name: Font Preview: Description
Manbow This is my first font. This is a stylish, bold and
simple font. You are able to see that this
font is classic, so that this can my targeted at
the younger target audience and also the
older target audience.
Budmo This is my second font. This font looks like
old Hollywood glamour, as it looks like a sign
with circle light inside the sign. This will
appeal to the younger target audience, as it
suggests that my magazine has exclusive
information about the music industry
around the world.
Bebas Neue This is my third font. This is a bold and
simple font. You are able to see that the
font is readable. This is important because
this suggests that any age would be able to
read this music magazine.
DK Boris
Brush
This is my fourth font. This font is fun
and stylish, which will appeal to the
younger target audience. This font looks
like someone has used chalk to write out
the the word EXCLUISIVE.
Docallisme On
Street
This is my fifth. This is cool, fun and
stylish font. This looks like some one has
done graffiti , which will appeal to my
target audience. This is important
because this could suggest that my
music magazine has all of the up to date
information.
I have chosen 5 fonts
from defont to be my
potential masthead for
my magazine.
You can see that all of
the fonts for my music
magazine are bold and
also easy to read. All
of the fonts are able to
represent my
magazine in a good
light. In addition,
these fonts are able to
add style to my music
magazine and
therefore a good
reputation for music
by the music
magazine. However,
only one of these
fonts is able to be on
my magazine and be
the face of my
magazine.
Masthead Font
This is Manbow font, that could be used for my
music magazine. The reason I have chosen this
font to be a potential masthead is because it is
simple and stylish, this could represent my
masthead in a good light as it is not over the top.
In addition, this font is easy to read so that the
target audience are able to read this masthead
easily.
This is Budmo font. The reason I have chosen this
masthead to be one of my potential mastheads is
because its looks like old Hollywood glamour, as it
have white circle inside the font. This is also easy
you read, so that the target audience are able to
read it.
However, one problem with this font is that it
doesn’t look professional enough for a music
magazine as I am planning to sell my music
magazine world wide. Therefore, I wouldn’t be
using this Budmo font to be my masthead for my
music magazine.
I have chosen two fonts from defont to be my potential masthead.
They are called Manbow and Budmo.
Colour Scheme and House Style
overview
Font
I use the same font of lemonMilk for dafont
throughout my magazine for the main
headline or main quote to keep up the brand
identity. Even so my masthead is manbow
from dafront and therefore it will be on every
page on my magazine magazine.
Masthead
When creating my masthead it is different to Q magazine’s
masthead as they are two separate magazines that offer
different needs to different people. Instead of using a red
box with a white letter, my magazine’s masthead has a full
word called “EXCLUSIVE” which has a black outline with gold
inside. My magazine’s masthead has a bold outline which is
eye catching and will get the readers’ attention.
Colour Scheme
EXCLUSIVE magazine includes a colour scheme as part of
the House colour. The two main colour themes, gold and
red, are repeated throughout my magazine. The gold
suggests that my magazine is a special occasion or a
celebration of reading my magazine. The red represents
danger and rebelliousness as my magazine will include
exclusive information. Also the magazine feature white
and black.
When designing a music magazine you have to include a house style in order to have brand awareness for the
brand identity. This is why I feature the masthead on every page of my magazine. The colour scheme is
repeated throughout my magazine and also I repeated the same font to stand out and bold on the pages.
Front Cover on Magazine of Inspiration
The magazine masthead and strapline
are the most important features of
magazines. These are important
because this will convey the message
that the music magazine is of a high
professional quality as this magazine is
a serious magazine, which means the
magazine has the best information
about music, artist and bands.
There is a puff promotions of the music
magazine, as this issue of the music
magazine comes with the small magazine.
The puff promotion is normally in a
different shape to appeal to the target
audience. This puff promotion is in the
shape of a square.
In addition, this magazine also comes with
a free CD by Amy Winehouse as a banner
as this will appeal to the target audience,
as this will make them feel that they will
gain if they buy the magazines.
Moreover, Q magazine, has a puff on it, as
a warning to tell the target audience who
brought the magazine, that there may not
be a free CD and that they should tell the
place where you brought the magazine.
This also comes in different shapes to
appeal to the target audience. For the puff
in the magazine, it is in a circle shape.
On this issue of Q magazine, there is a drop
capital in red to appeal to the target
audience. This will create ‘ star appeal’ as
this includes names of artists and bands, as
this is eye-catching and makes the
magazine seem impressive and important
as they have got famous artist and bands to
be included in Q magazine.
I will use Photoshop, in my magazine
so I can create a high quality and
professional image of my artist. This
must look professional because this
must be the main image of my front
cover. I will use the convention of
‘repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) for the
technical code for the main features of
my images of my artist.
Moreover, the picture of Amy
Winehouse displays a neutral, which is
appealing and interesting as there is no
emotion on her face.
I will mention ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale – 1980) throughout my
analysis of my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine and I
will adapt this to my music magazine, which has an eclectic
genre.
Double Page Spread on Magazine of Inspiration
On the double page spread of the magazine, there are two drop capital this will attract the reader to
the music magazines, as they contain different information. The red drop capital is about Ellie
Goulding new albums , where she record her album and when it will be released. The reason why the
drop capital is red is because red is Q magazine primary colour and therefore they it a brand identity
as they can keep within their house colour. However , the other drop capital is about different artist
and their albums, this will keep the target audience interesting as they can know simple facts about
their favourite artist.
I have carried out a bit more
research on the double page
spread and realised most of the
Q magazine double page spread
does not have associated
images on the magazine.
However, on this double page
spread of Q magazine, there
are associated images on the
pages to represent the artist
next to the texts about them.
The reason why the associate
images are small is because the
images wouldn’t overpower the
main images, as the main image
is the main point of the articles.
The technical code of the
medium shot on the double
page spread focuses on Ellie
Goulding . In the images of the
artist, this connotes that Ellie
Goulding Is highly
concentrated and focused on
her music. The images of the
artist contrast with the
background, as the
background is black. In the
image, there also features
music equipment like a
microphone or black
headphone.
For my magazine double page
spread, I have an idea that I
will ‘repeat’(Steve Neale-
1980), this is important
because this will give my
music magazine more of a
dramatic effect because of the
high level of concentration on
the artist’s face, so this
convention will be used in my
music magazine.
The stand first of the articles is below the main quote. The stand first is
in a red font, so this will be eye-catching to the target audience. I
personally think that the stand first and the main quote go very well
together as they both make each other very eye-catching.
Moreover, the stand first is above the interview text, which is eye-
catching because the fonts are in a different style to each other, which
will be like my music magazine.
On top of the main quote, there is a white cartoon
image of a headphone plug. The reason why they
may have the cartoon plug is for a bit of fun for the
interview as this could show off her personality of
the artist, Ellie Goulding.

The reason why I have picked two different fonts for the puff
promotion is because I want my puff promotion to be bold, easy to
read and striking to the audience. It is important to choose the best
font for the puff promotion because the puff promotion will have
exclusive competition or deals in the magazines.
During the process of choosing the fonts and colours for my music
magazine, I chose these specific fonts and colours because I want my
magazine to look like a serious music magazine. My magazine will look
professional and also fun and will be aimed at my target audience, which
is between 15-30 years old.
I have chosen several fonts from “dafont”, which will be included in my
music magazine. All of my fonts are easy to read, as all of the font sizes
will be different, so they can serve this purpose for the music magazine.
Some of the font is used for different techniques for the music magazine.
The “coolvetica” fonts will be used for headlines and the main articles
title for the music magazine. It is important to have the same font in the
magazine because if you have different fonts on the magazine, this could
look cheap and unprofessional. Another font that serves more than one
purpose is “chapaza”, which is used for cover lines ,web address, drop
capital and the stand first. As this will be easy to read, also this font is
simple and bold, which makes this font eye catching.
The primary colour of my music magazine is red and gold. The masthead,
Exclusive will be in gold as the lettering will be in red. The brand identity,
will be at the bottom of every page, there will be a page number in red.
However, the masthead of the music will be at the bottom in gold. This is
similar to my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, as they also mention
the page number and the masthead on each page of my music magazine.
Planned Format and Style of Front Cover
Masthead
I have decided to place the masthead
across the width of the magazine, as this
is eye catching and bold and able to see
the magazine in a shop on the shelf. The
logo is inspired by Mojo, as it is the same
style of the masthead but just in a
different font. However, the colouring of
the font is like Q magazine, as they are
both bright in colour as this will be more
eye catching. This could ensure that more
people will buy the magazine because the
appearance of the magazine will look
professional and fun to read.
Main Story
The main story is placed off the right main
image. This is important because this will tell
the audience which artists and bands are going
to be featured in the main story. This will be in
bold so the audience will be attracted to the
magazine, if they are fans of the artist/band.
Moreover, this is under the strapline if the
magazine because you will know that the main
story is important because it is exclusive, just
like my magazine.
Puff Promotion
I have decided to put the puff promotion
on the left hand corner of the music
magazine. It will be in a bright colour such
as red to create importance of the puff
promotion, as you could win or get
something free if you buy the magazine.
Barcode
I have decided to place the barcode
on the right hand corner like some of
the issues of my magazines of
inspiration of Q magazine. The
barcode of my magazine will tell you
how much the magazine costs and
the date the magazine was released.
Headline Quote
The Headline Quote is on the right of the
main image and will be eye catching
because it will be in bold. This could also
create emotion for the audience as the
headline quote can suggest if the
interview is going to be humorous or sad.
Main Article Feature
The main article feature is placed on the right
of the magazine. The purpose of the main
article feature is to show people which artists
and bands will be included in the magazine.
The magazine will have ‘star appeal’ so this
will create a sense of importance for the
audience about the magazine.
Strapline
I have decided to place the strapline under
the masthead on the right. As, I have
decided my strapline to be “Hear Our
Voice”. This is important because the
strapline will be near the masthead. This is
important because this will be brand
identity, as the strapline could be catchy
and well known.
Planned Format and Style of Front Cover
House Colour
I have decided my main house
colour will be gold as on my
masthead it is gold to express
celebration and a special occasion,
as buying my magazine, should be a
celebration. In addition, another
colour would be red for my
magazine, as it is bright and bold, so
this will appeal to the readers.
Another two colours which will be
mentioned throughout my magazine
are black and white as the colour will
be used for the background of the
magazine and the font of the
magazine.
Cover lines
I have decided to put the
cover lines on the left side
of the music magazine.
This will be below the
masthead so this will tell
the audience what will be
included in the music
magazine. This will make
the magazine more
important as they can see
how many artists/bands
are included in the
magazine.
House Style
During the interview, the font will be in the same size and
also have the same font style. Moreover, the main story
will be different to create a sense of importance for the
reader.
Planned Format and Style of Double Page Spread
Stand First
The stand first will be featured
above the interview because this
will be eye catching for the
audience, so they will know what
the interview is be about.
Main Image
The main image of the article
covers nearly both pages. The
image is large and therefore it
could be eye catching for the
audience, as they can see
their favourite artist on the
double spread page. The
picture could create ‘star
appeal’ for the audience, so
you can get an exclusive image
of the person. Moreover, this
could convey the person's
personality, as they can be
seen in a more down to earth
light.
Pull Quote
I have decide to place the Pull Quote on the main picture as this will create the
first impression of the interview and also you can tell what tone the interview
will be in. The Pull Quote will be large and bold, so this will be eye catching for
the audience and encourage them to read the interview.
Caption about other
artists/bands
Like my magazine of inspiration,
Q magazine, this will include
other artists/bands and give
dates of their album releases or
dates for their next concerts.
Brand Identity
The brand identity is very
important, as this will be
included in all of my pages in
the magazine. Moreover, this
will include the masthead, the
page number and also the
issue date.
Interview
The interview is the main part of the double page spread of the
magazine. This is important because they can read about their favourite
artists/bands. Moreover, in the interview you can read some of their
stories . The interview can create the tone of the double page spread of
the magazine, which can create an emotion in the reader. If the tone of
the interview is sad, the reader may feel the sadness of the person.
However, if the interview is funny, then the reader may laugh with or at
them and also they will feel happy as well.
Information about the artist.
This reason I have chosen to have the
information about the artist is
because the audience well learn fun
facts about them, so they can create a
bond with the artist and also create
their own opinion about the artist, so
they will know whether they like them
or not. Moreover, the information
about the artist will be in the drop
caption and could be used to advertise
up and coming concerts or new
albums about to be released.
Main Story Title
The main story title is used on the front cover, so the audience will know
what the interview is about. The same main story title will be on the double
page spread, as the audience can identity that they are on the right page.
Masthead
I have decided to place my masthead
on the left corner of the music
magazine. Moreover, I have decided
to place the letter ‘E’ , which stands
for ‘Exclusive’. Moreover the ‘E’ is in a
red box, just like my music magazine
of inspiration, which is Q magazine.
However, I have changed the colour of
the font, as my font colour is gold,
while Q magazines is white. The
reason I have changed the colour of
the font is because the music
magazine will be more eye-catching
for the audience. Moreover, the
colour gold seems more exclusive and
also exciting for the audience to see,
as gold is the colour of celebration
and buying my music magazine should
be a celebration.
Puff Promotion
The puff promotion is at the top of
the music magazine on the right hand
side. This is important because the
puff promotion could be the first
thing the audience can see on the
music magazine as it is next to the
masthead. Therefore, they may buy
the magazine because they found a
free gift, which they like in the music
magazine.
Barcode
The barcode is placed at the bottom right hand corner of the magazine.
This is because my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, has their barcode on the
bottom right hand corner for some of their magazine issue.
Moreover, the barcode is useful for a magazine because this tells you the cost and the issue
number. Moreover by looking at the date of the magazine, this will ‘inform’ (Katz) you of
the frequency of the magazine such as weekly or monthly.
Headline Quote
The headline quote is under the main story
because the audience can associate the quote
to the main story, as they will be from the same
articles. Moreover, the audience can sense a
tone from the main story by the headline
quote.
Main Story
The main story is on the left hand side of
the main image. The reason why the main
story is placed there is because the
audience can associate the main story to
the artist on the front cover. Moreover, it is
important to feature a main story because
the audience will feel that you can not
receive this information anywhere else
apart from in this music magazine.
Strapline
The strapline is placed under the masthead. This is important because the strapline is
for brand identity as the strapline is part of the music magazine’s image.
Moreover, the strapline must be short, so people can remember the strapline when
thinking of my music magazine.
Planned Format and Style of Front Cover
Cover lines
The cover lines of the
magazine are on the right
side of the magazine and
next to the main image. This
will tell the audience what
will be featured in the
magazine. This could
persuade the audience to
buy the magazine to read
what their favourite
artist/band have been to up
to and see exclusive
information about them.
House Style
The house style for my music magazine will have the same size page on
each page. However, some font size will be larger than other sizes because
this will create importance to buy the magazine and will also create the
excitement for the audience. The font size will be larger because it is
creating exclusivity as the information is only available in that magazine.
House Colour
The main house colour for my
music magazine is red, like my
magazine of inspiration, Q
magazine. As red is a bold and eye
catching colour. Another, main
house colour for my music
magazine is gold, as gold is an
exciting colour and the audience
should be excited to read my music
magazine. Another, house colour
for my music magazine is white and
black, as these are used for the font
and also for the background.
Planned Format and Style of Front

Planned Format and Style of Double Page Spread
Quote From Interview
I have decided to place the quote from the interview on the main picture, as
this will create the first impression of the interview and set the tone for the
interview. The quote from the interview will be large and bold, so this will be
eye catching for the audience and encourage them to read the interview.
Main Image
The main image of the article
is covered nearly both the
page. The image is large and
therefore is could be eye
catching for the audience,
they can see their favourite
artist on the double spread
page. The picture could create
‘star appeal’ for the audience,
so you can get an exclusive
image of the person.
Moreover, this could convey
the person's personality, as
they can be seen in a more
down to earth light.
Stand First
The stand first will be
featured above the interview
because this will be eye
catching for the audience, so
they will know what the
interview will be about.
Interview
The interview is the main part
of the double page spread of
the magazine. This is
important because they can
read what the artists/bands
really think of their music.
Moreover, in the interview
you can read some of their
stories . The interview can
create the tone of the double
page spread of the magazine,
which can create an emotion
in the reader. If the tone of
the interview is sad, the
reader may feel the sadness
of the artist. However, if the
interview is funny then the
reader may laugh with or at
the artist and also feel happy
themselves.
Brand Identity
The brand identity is very
important, as this will be
included in all my pages of the
magazine. Moreover, this will
include the masthead, the
page number and also the
issue date.
Main Story Title
The main story title is used on the front cover, so the audience will know
what the interview will be about. The same main story title will be on the
double page spread, as the audience can identity that they are on the right
page.
Second Image
The second image on the
left will reveal more of them
as a musician as the image
could be an insight to their
personality.

Interview Draft Planning
For the double page spread in my music magazine I will write an interview with the artist, Paloma Faith who will be
featured on my double page spread as she features as the main story and will also feature a headline quote from the
interview, so this will attract the audience to read my music magazine because she is a famous singer and therefore, the
‘star appeal’ will form, as her fans will buy the music magazine because she will be featured in the music magazine.
I have chosen to interview Paloma Faith because she is well known because of her many hits like “Only Love can hurt like
This”, “Upside Down” or “New York”. Moreover, I have chosen Paloma Faith because the genre of her songs are soul, jazz
and pop, this means she specialises in eclectic music, just like my music magazine. In addition, Paloma Faith has a
successful career in the music industry and her song “Changing” is number 1 on the UK singles. Furthermore, she has
won and been nominated for numerous different award ceremonies like the Brit Awards, Glamour Awards and the O2
Silver Clef Awards for her music.
During the interview I will ask her questions about her music career and what artists inspire her for her music and what
inspires her to sing. I will ask about her more about her music.
The interview will be a layout of on the double
page spread. There will be different questions and
different answers for the interview. I have used
format because it is like many of the different
double page spread in Q magazine. So the
audience can understand the format of the
interview in the music magazine.
This is my page of inspiration for the Q
magazine for the October 2015 issue on page
15. As they use different colours for the font,
this will make the writing bolder and easier to
read.
Draft Article - Interview
Interviewer: Hello Paloma. It’s good to meet with you – how are you?
PALOMA: Good to be finally meeting with you, very excited to be here. I’ve been good, thanks.
Interviewer: Congratulation, for winning your first Brits award for British Female Solo Artist this year.
PALOMA: thank you, I was very happy that I finally won a Brits award, after all have been nominated three times and never won a
Brits award before. So, this was very special for me when I won my first Brits award.
Interview: Does fame affect the your day to day life?
PALOMA: No, because I have made a conscious effect to stay with friends, have always had, do the same things and go to the
same places. This is because my friends can’t afford to go to posh or fancy places with me, so I go with them to do cheap and
cheerful things (laugh). So I am so relaxed with my friends, so I’m always forgetting that I am in the public eye. So, when people
ask for a photo with me, I still find it really weird.
Interview: Who is your biggest inspiration?
PALOMA: Well… I would say Etta James. She is a singer between the 50s and 60s. I tell people that she was like a teacher because
I never had any singing lesson as I would copy the style of her vocal. I have been having singing lesson now because I need to
know the techniques to save my voice. Another artist is Billie Holiday and all of the old singers.
Interview: So, you are known for your retro and eccentric style well as voice. So would you explain what you are wearing.
PALOMA: Well, I am wearing everything from the high-street. So the top and the trousers are from H&M. as these shoes are
from New Look. As, the beret is from eBay, they come in lots of colours. When I was an opening act for prince, he did say to me
that I was one of the best dressed people in the music industry at the moment. So that was quite nice.
Interview: So I heard that you done a bit of acting during your career as a singer, What have you been in and have you audition
to do anything else?
PALOMA: Well, my I appeared in one episode of Holby Blue , which is on the BBC. I played a thief. (Laugh) also I was in St Trinian
in 2007 as Andrea who was the Emo. I’ve been in others acting things in was like I was cast in Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctors
Parnassus. I did audition for Kickass 2 but I have never got a call back.
Interview: Talking about your television appearances, I heard you are replacing Rita Ora on the Voice
PALOMA: Yes, I am going to be a coach in the 5th series on the voice. I am very excited about this, as I would be finding new fresh
talents in the UK. This will be a new experience, as its not about acting or singing, but it’s more about being yourself. So I hope
you be watching.
Interview: Don’t worry, I will watch it. I heard a rumour that you have started making your fourth album, as you announce it at
Glastonbury Festival. Can you give anything away.
PALOMA: That is true, I am in the process of making the albums. I’m not going to say anything yet. The song Purple Haze by Jimi
Hendrix did inspire for my fourth album. It’s going to be a surprise. That’s all I'm going to say.
Interview: Can you tell me more about your upbringing and how you started singing.
PALOMA: Well, I have an English mum and Spanish dad, they divorced when I was four years old, so I was raised by my mum. My
mum wanted me to be a dancer, so I would go to dance lesson every week. I did my A-levels at City and Islington College and
then I studied for a degree at Northern School of Contemporary dance for contemporary dance. Then, I was lucky enough to get
into Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design do, I can study for an MA in Theatre Directing. I knew this was a good
opportunity, so I took a lot of part time job like Sales assistant at Agent Provocateur, singer in a burlesque cabaret, a life model
and a magician’s assistant. So I can pay for my education.
Interview: Wow, you have do lots of different part time job. This interview is sadly coming toward the end, what are you
hoping to do in the future?
PALOMA: I want to continue making music, have a career and have a family one day. I also want to travel with my work because I
have done lots in the UK and I have happy with the support I have received. But, I'm not well known around the world, that is my
next aim.
I have created a draft interview, which
featured the famous pop, jazz and soul
signer Paloma Faith. I have created these
questions because of my music magazine,
Q magazine. This is because I have
created a style of magazine, which is
about herself, her music and her fashion
so she will feel comfortable with the
questions.
I know that I couldn’t get a real interview
with Paloma Faith, for my question so I
received my information about Paloma
Faith from previous interviews she as
done from IBM.TV. I Also, got my
information from different website.
Link to the IBM.TV. interview, where I have
receive most of my interview about Paloma
Faith.

Conclusion
I have created two different music magazines ideas, so I can explore the two different magazines ideas, as I can see, which
magazines I want to further develop into a front cover and a double page spread. I have created two proposals for two of my
magazines ideas. Then after, I have created mind maps, mood boards, hand drawn sketch up and graphic layouts of the front
cover and the double page spread for both of my music magazines. I have created all of these drafts for both of my music
magazines because I can discover the advantage and disadvantage of both of my music magazines ideas. So, for my final
magazines ideas, I can display the advantages of my music magazine and also I can develop my disadvantage, so they can turn to
an advantage of my music magazine. Therefore I would be able to improve the layout or the style of the
I have also researched into of my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine. At, I looked at other issues of Q magazine of how
their articles and interview are displayed, so I can copy their style of interview or the questions the writer asked the artists or
bands. Moreover, I will copy the language or images style in the Q magazine. Moreover, I will analysis the house style of my
magazine inspiration, Q magazine and therefore you will analysis the font style and the colour scheme of the double page spread
of the interview. Therefore, I will try to know the demographic of the readership of my music magazine.
Finally, I have drawn some draft sketches of the front cover and a double page spread . I included ‘repeat’ (Steve Neal) of Q
magazines. This is important because by by developing the two draft sketches of the front cover and double page spreads , I can
know what my final magazine will like and therefore easier for me to know what and how I need to develop my music magazine.
This will help me to design both of my music magazine, as I will have my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine to help me to
design my music magazine and I will also have the hand drawn sketch and also graphic layouts of my front cover and the double
page spread, to help me to design my magazine and this will help to me to know where to place magazine convention such as the
main image or the headline quote.

  • 4. Mind Map 1) Generation of ideas Masthead Name Masthead Name • Eclectic Music (EM) • Tunes • Hear • Voice • V • Music (M) • Exclusive • Exclusive Music Colour ThemePrice Strapline Brand Identity Image Frequency of Release Target Audience Strapline • Hear Our Voice • The Music Magazine of the World • Exclusive music • World famous Music Magazine • Explore the World of Music. Frequency of Release This music magazine will be released monthly as this magazine will contain more information than a weekly music magazine and this magazine will be more expensive. Price The price of the magazine is £4.20, is released monthly and therefore there will be more content in the magazine . This will make the audience feel as if the magazine is more exclusive than the weekly music magazine. This is the same price as my magazine of inspiration of Q magazine. Brand Identity On the right hand corner of the magazine is my logo and the issue number, which will be repeated as brand Identity. In addition, there will be some mention of synergy with the social media account, which my magazine will have. Genre Image There will be the main image on the front cover of the magazine. The artist mentioned will be famous or upcoming. This will have different eclectic music and therefore there will be an eclectic artist mentioned on the front cover of the magazine. The image will be a mid-shot of the artist, the mid-shot will include their facial expression, body language and quotes from their interview. Genre My music magazine will have this gerne of eclectic of music. The content of my music magazine will be like Q magazine. This is important because my music magazine will educate the younger target audience about the older style of music such as Queen and David Bowie, while the music magazine will educate the older target audience about music of today like Kanye West or Sam Smith, so they will understand more about the 21st century music cultural. Colour Theme The colour scheme of the magazine is red, black, white and maybe gold on the masthead, so this will suggest that buying our magazine is a special occasion and a celebration. I have chose these colours for the music magazine as they are eye-catching for the target audience. The masthead will be similar to Mojo magazine. However the main colour of the magazine will be black and white.Target Audience My music magazine will have the target audience between the ages of 15-30 year old, as the content of my music magazine will have the genre of eclectic music. The statistics of Q magazine is where I have based my idea. Also Q magazine reveal that most of the music magazine highest target audience come from the teenagers 15-24. Moreover, the front cover of my music magazine will feature artist that the different age range will known and like. Also someone in the magazine that males and females will appeal to, so both gender will buy the music magazine. The socio-economic needs of my audience will be in the D and E of the chart. This is important because this will included students, they will have a bigger interest in music and may want to know more about the past famous music artists like David Bowie.
  • 5. Mastheads For First Magazine One of the mastheads for my music is “EXCLUSIVE”. The word “Exclusive” is a buzzword. This is why I might call my music magazine “EXCLUSIVE”. Another reason why I might call my music magazine ““EXCLUSIVE” is because it will contain “Exclusive” music information that you can’t read anywhere else. The word “EXCLUSIVE” suggests that the audience is receiving the VIP treatment, as my magazine is one of a kind. Another, masthead idea for my music magazine is “E” as this suggests that my music magazine is the messenger from the artist to the audience who is buying my music magazine. Another, reason why I might have chosen “E” as a possible masthead for my music magazine is because my music magazine will be the voice of music and therefore any age range of audience are welcome to buy my music magazine.
  • 6. Straplines For First Magazine “Hear Our Voice” as a strapline reveals that my music magazine is the voice between the artist and the audience buying the magazine. This suggests that we are an up and coming music magazine and we are determined to be the best music magazine in the world. Another strapline for my music magazine is “The Music Magazine of the World” revealing that there is the place in the market for a new and fresh music magazine for the world as the rest of the magazines have lose their edge as they care more about profits than the music and discovering new artists. Also this connotes that my music magazine is a gift to the world and a blessing as this will give exclusives information.
  • 7. Summary of Ideas  EXCLUSIVE will contain music from different time periods. The magazine will be about the artists and the bands who will meet this expectation and who are well known and respected in the music industry. This music will contain an electric mix of genre, which means it will features pop, indie and rock music. The magazine will be A4which means the height of the magazine will be 21.6cm and the width of the magazine will be 28.3cm.  The colours scheme of my magazine will be red and gold as it is bold, eye catching and exciting to read. I want the style of my magazine to be simple and classic so that it will be easier for the target audience to read. The front for my magazine will be simple and bold as this will appeal to the target audience and therefore they will buy it. Gold Red Adele David Bowie
  • 8. Intended Target Audience The target audience that my music will be targeted at are males and females between the ages between 15- 24. The Maslow theory of Q magazine is that the audience are “survivors” who will be there every month and therefore they will buy my magazine every month. They will gain the knowledge about the music by reading the magazine. Also they will be ‘explorers’ as they like to know about different music information and also explore different electric mix genres of music. This will mean that will looking through my magazine to gain information about their favourite artists/bands, different genres of music and the music industry. The Katz theory of Q magazine will be personal identification, so the audience can relate to the singers and the bands’ situation and lifestyle. This will mean that the target audience will be able to form a close bond to these singers and bands after hearing about a situation. This is called a personal relationship. In addition, my music magazine will be able to teach the target audience about different music so that the audience can learn new facts and information about artists/bands. The magazine will have a simple layout so that it will be easy to read the interview. The double page layout which I will be designing will be similar to the Q magazine interview page. Target Audience Source: http://ncrafts.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/socio- economic-needs.png • The ABC1 profile is 70%, which means that is demographic profile. • The target will have a high income. So they can afford to buy the music magazine monthly. • The socio- economic reveals that more males than female read Q magazine. • So by looking at the socio- economic and ABC1 profile this will help me to think of an idea to encourage more females to read EXCLUSIVE as well as male. • Q magazine is male dominated as it features male artists and bands. • One way to have a higher readership of females reading EXCLUSIVE is to have female singers and bands in the EXCLUSIVE. • The popular age range for Q magazine is 15-24. • Different styles of genre of artists and also feature artists from different generation. This will attract the different age range of target audience to read EXCLUSIVE. Source: http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/uploads/QMediaPack Feb2013.pdf • The Hartley’s 7 subjectivities look at a person’s age, gender, class, ethnicity, self- image, nation and family. • This reveals that EXCLUSIVE readership is between the ages of 15- 24. • The target audience will be on the E section of the Hartley’s 7 subjectivities chart. • The E section refers to unemployed, students, pensioner or casual worker.
  • 10. Target Audience • The Maslow theory of Q magazine will “survivors” be there every month. As they will gain knowledge about the music featured by the magazine. • Also be ‘explorers’ as they like to know about different music information and also explore different genre of music as well. • The Maslow theory of EXCLUSIVE will be the same as Q magazine, but my audience will also be “caregiver” . • This means sympathise with the artists and bands situation if something happens in their life. The audience can see them more as the person than a celebrities. • My target audience for my music magazine will be “Social Climbers”. • The audience will be determine to improve their quality of life and their status in society. • The Katz theory of Q magazine will be personal identification, so the audience can relate to the singers and bands situation and lifestyle. • The audience will form a close bond to these singers and bands after hearing about a situation. This is called a personal relationship. • EXCLUSIVE, will also inform and educate the audience as they will learn something new about the artists and bands. Source https://ncrafts.wordpress.com/ctec-level-3-introductory-diploma-in-media- candidates/unit-1-analysing-media-products-and-audiences-10-credits/ • The psychographic of Q magazine would be “explorers”. They would discover different types of music they haven’t heard before and also this would be found in the younger demographic (students) which will be found on the demographic table. • Another, psychographic of Q magazine would be “aspirers”. • They will be aspired by the celebrity singers and bands’ appearance, fashion and persona, they will look up the singer and bands as a role model. • However, one target audience will also be “succeeders”. • They will be confidence in their belief in music and also they will set goals for themself to achieve any challenges they have for themselves. • 12. Mood Board I have chosen this font for my music magazine because this is simple and bold. Also this font is easy to read for my target audience. I want to include old style of music like the Beatles so this will appeal to the older target audience, so they will buy and music magazine and therefore my music magazine will be more popular. In addition, the old style of music could teach the younger audience, how much music has changed over a period of time and teach them more about the music industry. As well as including an old style of music, I also want to include contemporary music like Kayne West as this could appeal to the younger target audience. This could also teach them about the modern day music industry and want talent you need to be in the music industry. The colour wheel will help me decide what colour I should include in my music magazine. In addition, this will help me because I know what colour is best suited for each other. This picture of Bjork denotes that I want my music magazine to be bright, bold and unique. I also want my music magazine to be as colourful as this, which I hope will be eye catching for the target audience. This is the symbol for Facebook. This reveals that my music magazine will on social magazine to keep close with the target audience, as they can see my music magazine daily update.
  • 13. Mind Map 2) Generation of ideas Masthead Name Colour ThemePrice Strapline Brand Identity Image Frequency of Release Target Audience Genre Colour Theme I have decided the colour theme for my magazine will be black and white, as both of the colours can be used for the font and also the background. Moreover, the primary colour of the magazine is red, as red is a bold and bright colour. In addition, I will have the colour gold as the font. Moreover, my magazine will included the colour blue, as both of the colour are fresh and clean. This mean that they will stand out because both of the colours are bright. Price The price of the magazine will be £4.20 like my magazine of inspiration , Q magazine, this is because my music magazine frequency will be monthly, therefore my music magazine will contain more information, than a cheaper and a weekly magazine. Masthead Name • Eclectic Music (EM) • Vocal • Melody • Volume • Music (M) • Exclusive • Harmony • E Strapline • Explore the Life of Music • Life of Music • Exclusive music • World famous Music Magazine • Discover Great Music Genre Like my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine. The genre of my music magazine will be eclectic. This is important because, with a eclectic genre, this will be more interesting to read or to look at pictures from the past. Moreover, the reason why I have chose an eclectic genre for my magazine is because you will attract a different target audience and also people who like different style of music to read. Another magazine, which I have researched is NME, who have a similar genre than Q magazine Frequency of Release My music magazine will be released monthly because there will be more content in the music magazine. Moreover, you can tell that the frequency of release is monthly because on the barcode it will have the release date on it. Image There will be a main image on the front cover of the magazine. The artist will be famous or an upcoming artist that will be mentioned. This will have different eclectic music and therefore there will be an eclectic range of artists mentioned on or in the front cover of the magazine. The image will be a mid-shot of the artist, the mid-shot will include, their facial expression, body language and quotes they have said from the interview. Brand Identity On the corner of the right hand side of the magazine, there will be my logo and the issue number, which will be repeated as brand Identity. Moreover, by the brand identity you can associated with the music magazine. Target Audience My music magazine will have the target audience between the ages of 15-30 year old, as the content of my music magazine will have the genre of eclectic music. The statistics of Q magazine is where I have based my idea. Also Q magazine reveal that most of the music magazine highest target audience come from the teenagers 15-24. Moreover, the front cover of my music magazine will feature artists that the different age range will know and like. Also someone in the magazine that will appeal to females to encourage them to buy the music magazine. However, males can buy the magazine as well. The socio-economic need of my music magazine will be D and E for the students and the young adult, they will be exploring their music interests, and also exploring different artists or bands that they may not heard off before. Moreover, the price of the music magazine is cheap, as they buy the magazine monthly, which could be in their budget of living.
  • 14. Mastheads For Second Magazine One masthead for my second music magazine is “E”. The “E” will stand for “Explore” as all of the information in my music magazine will be high quality and exclusive to my magazine. This will also copy the style of my magazine of inspiration as the name of the magazine has a single letter. Another masthead idea for my music magazine is “Volume” this reveals that music magazine will be an aggressive music magazine as my music magazine will be unique and outstanding.
  • 15. Straplines For Second Magazine The first strapline for my music magazine will be “Explore the Life of Music” this is mainly targeted at the younger target audience because they have to experience music and the different genre, so they can find their style of music. Another, reason why this will be a suitable strapline for my music magazine is because this means that they are finding themselves with my magazine and helping them grow as a person . Also this will a suitable strapline “Discover Great Music” because the target audience will find the best music information in my music magazine because my music magazine will contain high quality information. This also suggests that my target audience will be ‘Explorers’ as they will be exploring through my music magazine.
  • 16. Summary of Ideas  The second is called E, which will stand for Explore. The genre of my magazine will be an eclectic mix of genre. The artists and bands will be well known but will also feature up and coming artists. This is important as this a way for the up and coming artists to be noticed. This music will feature all artists that agree to be a part of E magazine.  The magazine will be A4 which means the height of the magazine will be 21.6cm and the width of the magazine will be 28.3cm. The colours scheme of my magazine will be red and gold as it is bold, eye catching and exciting to read. This magazine will compare to a celebration as the information will be so exclusive and exciting. They will want to share the magazine with everyone they know. The font is bold and simple, so that it will be readable to my target audience. In addition, the letter E will be in a red box like Q magazine. Gold Red Elton John Meghan TrainorRed
  • 17. Intended Target Audience This magazine will be targeted at both males and females between the ages of 15-24. My target audience will be “caregiver” as they will understand and sympathise with the artist or bands when something happens in their musical or personal life. The “caregiver” is a section from the Maslow theory. In addition, my target audience for my music magazine will be “Social Climbers” as the audience will be determined to improve their quality of life and their status in society. The Katz theory of Q magazine will be personal identification, so the audience can relate to the singers and bands situation and lifestyle. This will mean that the target audience will be able to form a close bond to the singers and bands after hearing about a situation. This is called a personal relationship. In addition, my music magazine will be able to teach the target audience about different music. So that the audience can learn new facts and information about artists/bands. The double page spread will be interesting as their will be two images of the artist. The first one is going to be large and therefore stand out. However, the second image will be included in the interview as it will appeal to the target audience because it is more fun and interesting to read. Abraham Maslow Elihu Katz
  • 18. Target Audience Source: http://ncrafts.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/socio- economic-needs.png • The ABC1 profile is 70%, which means that the demographic profile reveals that the readership will have a high income and therefore they can afford to buy the music magazine monthly. • The socio- economic reveals that more males rather than female read Q magazine. • Q magazine is a male dominated magazine. To make more females read E magazine. • It will features more females artist and bands in the magazine. • The age range of Q magazine is between the ages of 15-24. • However, to get more people to with different age range to read E magazine. • It will features different artists and bands from different genre and time periods of artists. Source: http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/uploads/QMediaPack Feb2013.pdf • By referring to the Hartley’s 7 subjectivities which is looking at a person age, gender, class, ethnicity, self-image, nation and family. • This reveals that Q magazine readership are between the ages of 15- 24. • The target audience will be students. • Students are in the section of the E section of the Hartley’s 7 subjectivities chart. • The reason why students will be most likely to buy a music magazine is because they will be interested in music. Want to see what different music offered them. • So by referring to the Hartley’s 7 subjectivities, my magazine will be targeted at the E, D and maybe C2 section of the chart.
  • 19. Target Audience • The Maslow theory of E magazine will “survivors” • As they will gain the knowledge about the music by the magazine. • They would be ‘explorers’ as they like to know different music information and also explore different genre of music as well. • The Maslow theory of E magazine will be the same as E magazine, but my audience will also be “caregiver”. • The target audience will sympathise with the artists and bands situation if something happens in their life. • They will view the artists as a person not as a celebrity. • My target audience for my music magazine will be “Social Climbers” as the audience will be determined to improve their quality of life and their status in society. • The Katz theory of E magazine will be personal identification, so the audience can relate to the singers and bands situation and lifestyle. • The audience will form a close bond to the singers and bands after hearing about a situation. • This is called a personal relationship. • However, my music magazine E, will also inform and educate the audience as they will learn something new about the artists and bands. • 21. Mood Board 2) This is the symbol for twitter, a social media website. This will inform us that my music magazine will be on social media, which means the audience can subscribe to the magazine to hear about the latest gossip or news about my music magazine. This is an example of a masthead for a music magazine. This connotes that my masthead will be similar to Mojo masthead, as its spell out the name of the music magazine. The colours will contain hidden meanings that will be eye catching for my target audience. This is a style which I will want for my music magazine, as this is simple and bold. Moreover, this font is easy to read, so my audience can read the the title of the magazine easily. This is a picture of a modern day artist, Ellie Goulding. As this picture will attract the younger audience to read this music magazine. Moreover, the older audience will know what the younger audience is interested in and therefore, they can compare how music has changed. This is a picture of the Rolling Stones, to attract the older audience to my music magazine. This is important because they can read about singers/bands from their childhood and also enjoy reading them.
  • 22. Graphic Layout Front Cover I used my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine for my layout of the magazine. On the first layout of the magazine, the masthead is different, as for Q masthead, it is in a box, whilst my masthead is spread out. However this is more similar to Mojo as the strapline is under the masthead like in Q magazine. However my second layout has the same masthead as Q magazine however the puff promotion is different as the puff promotion on my second layout is more eye catching for the target audience.
  • 23. Graphic Layout Front Double Page Spread For the double page spread, this will help to guide me where I should put my interview and also the main picture of the artist who is being interviewed. The first graphic layout is inspired by Q magazine as the interview was in at the bottom not in columns like the second graphic idea. However in both of my ideas, the headline quote is on the main image. As they both mention the masthead and the issue number of the magazine. However the first idea is on the right hand corner like Q magazine but my second idea is on the top of the magazine , so the target audience know what magazine and issue number they are reading.
  • 24. Magazine Masthead/Logo Font Names Test God Of War Granada Quartzo Manbow For my music magazine, the masthead/logo will be bold and eye-catching. Therefore, when my music magazine is on the shelves in the shops, my music magazine must be easy to read. My masthead/logo is not similar to my magazine of inspiration Q magazine, as my masthead is one word and across the front cover, when my magazine of inspiration is at the left top corner of the magazine in a red box with one letter in the box. However, my music magazine is more similar to Mojo as the masthead is across the music magazine. However, the font of my masthead is gold, whilst the Mojo masthead change between the colour of black and white. For my logo I have chosen the font ‘manbow’ from the website “dafront” , which is very easy to read and eye catching. I have chosen this font for the music magazine because it has a 1950s styles to the font. I have done four different tests on “dafront” so I could decide, which font I should use for my masthead/logo for my music magazine. This is what my font will look like in my music magazine. House Style Consistency By looking at different font and colour for my music magazine, now I am able to create my front page and also the double page spread, which has the same colour theme through my music magazine. The masthead of my music magazine, “Exclusive” will be mentioned on all of of pages of my music magazine. As, the masthead will be at the bottom of the page next to the page number of the magazine. When I develop my masthead on photoshop, I will create the main logo. I chose to make my colour of the font gold, because it will make it appealing to my audience , as it is not like the other music magazine, as the masthead is bold and eye catching as well as simple.
  • 25. Masthead Font Ideas Font Name: Font Preview: Description Manbow This is my first font. This is a stylish, bold and simple font. You are able to see that this font is classic, so that this can my targeted at the younger target audience and also the older target audience. Budmo This is my second font. This font looks like old Hollywood glamour, as it looks like a sign with circle light inside the sign. This will appeal to the younger target audience, as it suggests that my magazine has exclusive information about the music industry around the world. Bebas Neue This is my third font. This is a bold and simple font. You are able to see that the font is readable. This is important because this suggests that any age would be able to read this music magazine. DK Boris Brush This is my fourth font. This font is fun and stylish, which will appeal to the younger target audience. This font looks like someone has used chalk to write out the the word EXCLUISIVE. Docallisme On Street This is my fifth. This is cool, fun and stylish font. This looks like some one has done graffiti , which will appeal to my target audience. This is important because this could suggest that my music magazine has all of the up to date information. I have chosen 5 fonts from defont to be my potential masthead for my magazine. You can see that all of the fonts for my music magazine are bold and also easy to read. All of the fonts are able to represent my magazine in a good light. In addition, these fonts are able to add style to my music magazine and therefore a good reputation for music by the music magazine. However, only one of these fonts is able to be on my magazine and be the face of my magazine.
  • 26. Masthead Font This is Manbow font, that could be used for my music magazine. The reason I have chosen this font to be a potential masthead is because it is simple and stylish, this could represent my masthead in a good light as it is not over the top. In addition, this font is easy to read so that the target audience are able to read this masthead easily. This is Budmo font. The reason I have chosen this masthead to be one of my potential mastheads is because its looks like old Hollywood glamour, as it have white circle inside the font. This is also easy you read, so that the target audience are able to read it. However, one problem with this font is that it doesn’t look professional enough for a music magazine as I am planning to sell my music magazine world wide. Therefore, I wouldn’t be using this Budmo font to be my masthead for my music magazine. I have chosen two fonts from defont to be my potential masthead. They are called Manbow and Budmo.
  • 27. Colour Scheme and House Style overview Font I use the same font of lemonMilk for dafont throughout my magazine for the main headline or main quote to keep up the brand identity. Even so my masthead is manbow from dafront and therefore it will be on every page on my magazine magazine. Masthead When creating my masthead it is different to Q magazine’s masthead as they are two separate magazines that offer different needs to different people. Instead of using a red box with a white letter, my magazine’s masthead has a full word called “EXCLUSIVE” which has a black outline with gold inside. My magazine’s masthead has a bold outline which is eye catching and will get the readers’ attention. Colour Scheme EXCLUSIVE magazine includes a colour scheme as part of the House colour. The two main colour themes, gold and red, are repeated throughout my magazine. The gold suggests that my magazine is a special occasion or a celebration of reading my magazine. The red represents danger and rebelliousness as my magazine will include exclusive information. Also the magazine feature white and black. When designing a music magazine you have to include a house style in order to have brand awareness for the brand identity. This is why I feature the masthead on every page of my magazine. The colour scheme is repeated throughout my magazine and also I repeated the same font to stand out and bold on the pages.
  • 28. Front Cover on Magazine of Inspiration The magazine masthead and strapline are the most important features of magazines. These are important because this will convey the message that the music magazine is of a high professional quality as this magazine is a serious magazine, which means the magazine has the best information about music, artist and bands. There is a puff promotions of the music magazine, as this issue of the music magazine comes with the small magazine. The puff promotion is normally in a different shape to appeal to the target audience. This puff promotion is in the shape of a square. In addition, this magazine also comes with a free CD by Amy Winehouse as a banner as this will appeal to the target audience, as this will make them feel that they will gain if they buy the magazines. Moreover, Q magazine, has a puff on it, as a warning to tell the target audience who brought the magazine, that there may not be a free CD and that they should tell the place where you brought the magazine. This also comes in different shapes to appeal to the target audience. For the puff in the magazine, it is in a circle shape. On this issue of Q magazine, there is a drop capital in red to appeal to the target audience. This will create ‘ star appeal’ as this includes names of artists and bands, as this is eye-catching and makes the magazine seem impressive and important as they have got famous artist and bands to be included in Q magazine. I will use Photoshop, in my magazine so I can create a high quality and professional image of my artist. This must look professional because this must be the main image of my front cover. I will use the convention of ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) for the technical code for the main features of my images of my artist. Moreover, the picture of Amy Winehouse displays a neutral, which is appealing and interesting as there is no emotion on her face. I will mention ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale – 1980) throughout my analysis of my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine and I will adapt this to my music magazine, which has an eclectic genre.
  • 29. Double Page Spread on Magazine of Inspiration On the double page spread of the magazine, there are two drop capital this will attract the reader to the music magazines, as they contain different information. The red drop capital is about Ellie Goulding new albums , where she record her album and when it will be released. The reason why the drop capital is red is because red is Q magazine primary colour and therefore they it a brand identity as they can keep within their house colour. However , the other drop capital is about different artist and their albums, this will keep the target audience interesting as they can know simple facts about their favourite artist. I have carried out a bit more research on the double page spread and realised most of the Q magazine double page spread does not have associated images on the magazine. However, on this double page spread of Q magazine, there are associated images on the pages to represent the artist next to the texts about them. The reason why the associate images are small is because the images wouldn’t overpower the main images, as the main image is the main point of the articles. The technical code of the medium shot on the double page spread focuses on Ellie Goulding . In the images of the artist, this connotes that Ellie Goulding Is highly concentrated and focused on her music. The images of the artist contrast with the background, as the background is black. In the image, there also features music equipment like a microphone or black headphone. For my magazine double page spread, I have an idea that I will ‘repeat’(Steve Neale- 1980), this is important because this will give my music magazine more of a dramatic effect because of the high level of concentration on the artist’s face, so this convention will be used in my music magazine. The stand first of the articles is below the main quote. The stand first is in a red font, so this will be eye-catching to the target audience. I personally think that the stand first and the main quote go very well together as they both make each other very eye-catching. Moreover, the stand first is above the interview text, which is eye- catching because the fonts are in a different style to each other, which will be like my music magazine. On top of the main quote, there is a white cartoon image of a headphone plug. The reason why they may have the cartoon plug is for a bit of fun for the interview as this could show off her personality of the artist, Ellie Goulding.
  • 30. Magazine Fonts and Colours Font Name: Font Preview: Font Usage: Chapaza • Cover Lines • Web Adress • Drop Capital • Stand First Coolvetica • Headline • Main Articles Titles today • Strapline timeless • Barcode, price and date Spinwerad • Puff Promotion Keep Calm • Puff Promotion Roboto-Thin • Main Artist Text The reason why I have picked two different fonts for the puff promotion is because I want my puff promotion to be bold, easy to read and striking to the audience. It is important to choose the best font for the puff promotion because the puff promotion will have exclusive competition or deals in the magazines. During the process of choosing the fonts and colours for my music magazine, I chose these specific fonts and colours because I want my magazine to look like a serious music magazine. My magazine will look professional and also fun and will be aimed at my target audience, which is between 15-30 years old. I have chosen several fonts from “dafont”, which will be included in my music magazine. All of my fonts are easy to read, as all of the font sizes will be different, so they can serve this purpose for the music magazine. Some of the font is used for different techniques for the music magazine. The “coolvetica” fonts will be used for headlines and the main articles title for the music magazine. It is important to have the same font in the magazine because if you have different fonts on the magazine, this could look cheap and unprofessional. Another font that serves more than one purpose is “chapaza”, which is used for cover lines ,web address, drop capital and the stand first. As this will be easy to read, also this font is simple and bold, which makes this font eye catching. The primary colour of my music magazine is red and gold. The masthead, Exclusive will be in gold as the lettering will be in red. The brand identity, will be at the bottom of every page, there will be a page number in red. However, the masthead of the music will be at the bottom in gold. This is similar to my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, as they also mention the page number and the masthead on each page of my music magazine.
  • 31. Planned Format and Style of Front Cover Masthead I have decided to place the masthead across the width of the magazine, as this is eye catching and bold and able to see the magazine in a shop on the shelf. The logo is inspired by Mojo, as it is the same style of the masthead but just in a different font. However, the colouring of the font is like Q magazine, as they are both bright in colour as this will be more eye catching. This could ensure that more people will buy the magazine because the appearance of the magazine will look professional and fun to read. Main Story The main story is placed off the right main image. This is important because this will tell the audience which artists and bands are going to be featured in the main story. This will be in bold so the audience will be attracted to the magazine, if they are fans of the artist/band. Moreover, this is under the strapline if the magazine because you will know that the main story is important because it is exclusive, just like my magazine. Puff Promotion I have decided to put the puff promotion on the left hand corner of the music magazine. It will be in a bright colour such as red to create importance of the puff promotion, as you could win or get something free if you buy the magazine. Barcode I have decided to place the barcode on the right hand corner like some of the issues of my magazines of inspiration of Q magazine. The barcode of my magazine will tell you how much the magazine costs and the date the magazine was released. Headline Quote The Headline Quote is on the right of the main image and will be eye catching because it will be in bold. This could also create emotion for the audience as the headline quote can suggest if the interview is going to be humorous or sad. Main Article Feature The main article feature is placed on the right of the magazine. The purpose of the main article feature is to show people which artists and bands will be included in the magazine. The magazine will have ‘star appeal’ so this will create a sense of importance for the audience about the magazine. Strapline I have decided to place the strapline under the masthead on the right. As, I have decided my strapline to be “Hear Our Voice”. This is important because the strapline will be near the masthead. This is important because this will be brand identity, as the strapline could be catchy and well known.
  • 32. Planned Format and Style of Front Cover House Colour I have decided my main house colour will be gold as on my masthead it is gold to express celebration and a special occasion, as buying my magazine, should be a celebration. In addition, another colour would be red for my magazine, as it is bright and bold, so this will appeal to the readers. Another two colours which will be mentioned throughout my magazine are black and white as the colour will be used for the background of the magazine and the font of the magazine. Cover lines I have decided to put the cover lines on the left side of the music magazine. This will be below the masthead so this will tell the audience what will be included in the music magazine. This will make the magazine more important as they can see how many artists/bands are included in the magazine. House Style During the interview, the font will be in the same size and also have the same font style. Moreover, the main story will be different to create a sense of importance for the reader.
  • 33. Planned Format and Style of Double Page Spread Stand First The stand first will be featured above the interview because this will be eye catching for the audience, so they will know what the interview is be about. Main Image The main image of the article covers nearly both pages. The image is large and therefore it could be eye catching for the audience, as they can see their favourite artist on the double spread page. The picture could create ‘star appeal’ for the audience, so you can get an exclusive image of the person. Moreover, this could convey the person's personality, as they can be seen in a more down to earth light. Pull Quote I have decide to place the Pull Quote on the main picture as this will create the first impression of the interview and also you can tell what tone the interview will be in. The Pull Quote will be large and bold, so this will be eye catching for the audience and encourage them to read the interview. Caption about other artists/bands Like my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, this will include other artists/bands and give dates of their album releases or dates for their next concerts. Brand Identity The brand identity is very important, as this will be included in all of my pages in the magazine. Moreover, this will include the masthead, the page number and also the issue date. Interview The interview is the main part of the double page spread of the magazine. This is important because they can read about their favourite artists/bands. Moreover, in the interview you can read some of their stories . The interview can create the tone of the double page spread of the magazine, which can create an emotion in the reader. If the tone of the interview is sad, the reader may feel the sadness of the person. However, if the interview is funny, then the reader may laugh with or at them and also they will feel happy as well. Information about the artist. This reason I have chosen to have the information about the artist is because the audience well learn fun facts about them, so they can create a bond with the artist and also create their own opinion about the artist, so they will know whether they like them or not. Moreover, the information about the artist will be in the drop caption and could be used to advertise up and coming concerts or new albums about to be released. Main Story Title The main story title is used on the front cover, so the audience will know what the interview is about. The same main story title will be on the double page spread, as the audience can identity that they are on the right page.
  • 34. Masthead I have decided to place my masthead on the left corner of the music magazine. Moreover, I have decided to place the letter ‘E’ , which stands for ‘Exclusive’. Moreover the ‘E’ is in a red box, just like my music magazine of inspiration, which is Q magazine. However, I have changed the colour of the font, as my font colour is gold, while Q magazines is white. The reason I have changed the colour of the font is because the music magazine will be more eye-catching for the audience. Moreover, the colour gold seems more exclusive and also exciting for the audience to see, as gold is the colour of celebration and buying my music magazine should be a celebration. Puff Promotion The puff promotion is at the top of the music magazine on the right hand side. This is important because the puff promotion could be the first thing the audience can see on the music magazine as it is next to the masthead. Therefore, they may buy the magazine because they found a free gift, which they like in the music magazine. Barcode The barcode is placed at the bottom right hand corner of the magazine. This is because my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, has their barcode on the bottom right hand corner for some of their magazine issue. Moreover, the barcode is useful for a magazine because this tells you the cost and the issue number. Moreover by looking at the date of the magazine, this will ‘inform’ (Katz) you of the frequency of the magazine such as weekly or monthly. Headline Quote The headline quote is under the main story because the audience can associate the quote to the main story, as they will be from the same articles. Moreover, the audience can sense a tone from the main story by the headline quote. Main Story The main story is on the left hand side of the main image. The reason why the main story is placed there is because the audience can associate the main story to the artist on the front cover. Moreover, it is important to feature a main story because the audience will feel that you can not receive this information anywhere else apart from in this music magazine. Strapline The strapline is placed under the masthead. This is important because the strapline is for brand identity as the strapline is part of the music magazine’s image. Moreover, the strapline must be short, so people can remember the strapline when thinking of my music magazine. Planned Format and Style of Front Cover
  • 35. Cover lines The cover lines of the magazine are on the right side of the magazine and next to the main image. This will tell the audience what will be featured in the magazine. This could persuade the audience to buy the magazine to read what their favourite artist/band have been to up to and see exclusive information about them. House Style The house style for my music magazine will have the same size page on each page. However, some font size will be larger than other sizes because this will create importance to buy the magazine and will also create the excitement for the audience. The font size will be larger because it is creating exclusivity as the information is only available in that magazine. House Colour The main house colour for my music magazine is red, like my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine. As red is a bold and eye catching colour. Another, main house colour for my music magazine is gold, as gold is an exciting colour and the audience should be excited to read my music magazine. Another, house colour for my music magazine is white and black, as these are used for the font and also for the background. Planned Format and Style of Front Cover
  • 36. Planned Format and Style of Double Page Spread Quote From Interview I have decided to place the quote from the interview on the main picture, as this will create the first impression of the interview and set the tone for the interview. The quote from the interview will be large and bold, so this will be eye catching for the audience and encourage them to read the interview. Main Image The main image of the article is covered nearly both the page. The image is large and therefore is could be eye catching for the audience, they can see their favourite artist on the double spread page. The picture could create ‘star appeal’ for the audience, so you can get an exclusive image of the person. Moreover, this could convey the person's personality, as they can be seen in a more down to earth light. Stand First The stand first will be featured above the interview because this will be eye catching for the audience, so they will know what the interview will be about. Interview The interview is the main part of the double page spread of the magazine. This is important because they can read what the artists/bands really think of their music. Moreover, in the interview you can read some of their stories . The interview can create the tone of the double page spread of the magazine, which can create an emotion in the reader. If the tone of the interview is sad, the reader may feel the sadness of the artist. However, if the interview is funny then the reader may laugh with or at the artist and also feel happy themselves. Brand Identity The brand identity is very important, as this will be included in all my pages of the magazine. Moreover, this will include the masthead, the page number and also the issue date. Main Story Title The main story title is used on the front cover, so the audience will know what the interview will be about. The same main story title will be on the double page spread, as the audience can identity that they are on the right page. • 39. Interview Draft Planning For the double page spread in my music magazine I will write an interview with the artist, Paloma Faith who will be featured on my double page spread as she features as the main story and will also feature a headline quote from the interview, so this will attract the audience to read my music magazine because she is a famous singer and therefore, the ‘star appeal’ will form, as her fans will buy the music magazine because she will be featured in the music magazine. I have chosen to interview Paloma Faith because she is well known because of her many hits like “Only Love can hurt like This”, “Upside Down” or “New York”. Moreover, I have chosen Paloma Faith because the genre of her songs are soul, jazz and pop, this means she specialises in eclectic music, just like my music magazine. In addition, Paloma Faith has a successful career in the music industry and her song “Changing” is number 1 on the UK singles. Furthermore, she has won and been nominated for numerous different award ceremonies like the Brit Awards, Glamour Awards and the O2 Silver Clef Awards for her music. During the interview I will ask her questions about her music career and what artists inspire her for her music and what inspires her to sing. I will ask about her more about her music. The interview will be a layout of on the double page spread. There will be different questions and different answers for the interview. I have used format because it is like many of the different double page spread in Q magazine. So the audience can understand the format of the interview in the music magazine. This is my page of inspiration for the Q magazine for the October 2015 issue on page 15. As they use different colours for the font, this will make the writing bolder and easier to read.
  • 40. Draft Article - Interview Interviewer: Hello Paloma. It’s good to meet with you – how are you? PALOMA: Good to be finally meeting with you, very excited to be here. I’ve been good, thanks. Interviewer: Congratulation, for winning your first Brits award for British Female Solo Artist this year. PALOMA: thank you, I was very happy that I finally won a Brits award, after all have been nominated three times and never won a Brits award before. So, this was very special for me when I won my first Brits award. Interview: Does fame affect the your day to day life? PALOMA: No, because I have made a conscious effect to stay with friends, have always had, do the same things and go to the same places. This is because my friends can’t afford to go to posh or fancy places with me, so I go with them to do cheap and cheerful things (laugh). So I am so relaxed with my friends, so I’m always forgetting that I am in the public eye. So, when people ask for a photo with me, I still find it really weird. Interview: Who is your biggest inspiration? PALOMA: Well… I would say Etta James. She is a singer between the 50s and 60s. I tell people that she was like a teacher because I never had any singing lesson as I would copy the style of her vocal. I have been having singing lesson now because I need to know the techniques to save my voice. Another artist is Billie Holiday and all of the old singers. Interview: So, you are known for your retro and eccentric style well as voice. So would you explain what you are wearing. PALOMA: Well, I am wearing everything from the high-street. So the top and the trousers are from H&M. as these shoes are from New Look. As, the beret is from eBay, they come in lots of colours. When I was an opening act for prince, he did say to me that I was one of the best dressed people in the music industry at the moment. So that was quite nice. Interview: So I heard that you done a bit of acting during your career as a singer, What have you been in and have you audition to do anything else? PALOMA: Well, my I appeared in one episode of Holby Blue , which is on the BBC. I played a thief. (Laugh) also I was in St Trinian in 2007 as Andrea who was the Emo. I’ve been in others acting things in was like I was cast in Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctors Parnassus. I did audition for Kickass 2 but I have never got a call back. Interview: Talking about your television appearances, I heard you are replacing Rita Ora on the Voice PALOMA: Yes, I am going to be a coach in the 5th series on the voice. I am very excited about this, as I would be finding new fresh talents in the UK. This will be a new experience, as its not about acting or singing, but it’s more about being yourself. So I hope you be watching. Interview: Don’t worry, I will watch it. I heard a rumour that you have started making your fourth album, as you announce it at Glastonbury Festival. Can you give anything away. PALOMA: That is true, I am in the process of making the albums. I’m not going to say anything yet. The song Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix did inspire for my fourth album. It’s going to be a surprise. That’s all I'm going to say. Interview: Can you tell me more about your upbringing and how you started singing. PALOMA: Well, I have an English mum and Spanish dad, they divorced when I was four years old, so I was raised by my mum. My mum wanted me to be a dancer, so I would go to dance lesson every week. I did my A-levels at City and Islington College and then I studied for a degree at Northern School of Contemporary dance for contemporary dance. Then, I was lucky enough to get into Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design do, I can study for an MA in Theatre Directing. I knew this was a good opportunity, so I took a lot of part time job like Sales assistant at Agent Provocateur, singer in a burlesque cabaret, a life model and a magician’s assistant. So I can pay for my education. Interview: Wow, you have do lots of different part time job. This interview is sadly coming toward the end, what are you hoping to do in the future? PALOMA: I want to continue making music, have a career and have a family one day. I also want to travel with my work because I have done lots in the UK and I have happy with the support I have received. But, I'm not well known around the world, that is my next aim. I have created a draft interview, which featured the famous pop, jazz and soul signer Paloma Faith. I have created these questions because of my music magazine, Q magazine. This is because I have created a style of magazine, which is about herself, her music and her fashion so she will feel comfortable with the questions. I know that I couldn’t get a real interview with Paloma Faith, for my question so I received my information about Paloma Faith from previous interviews she as done from IBM.TV. I Also, got my information from different website. Link to the IBM.TV. interview, where I have receive most of my interview about Paloma Faith. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_fl8rU sFCE
  • 41. Conclusion I have created two different music magazines ideas, so I can explore the two different magazines ideas, as I can see, which magazines I want to further develop into a front cover and a double page spread. I have created two proposals for two of my magazines ideas. Then after, I have created mind maps, mood boards, hand drawn sketch up and graphic layouts of the front cover and the double page spread for both of my music magazines. I have created all of these drafts for both of my music magazines because I can discover the advantage and disadvantage of both of my music magazines ideas. So, for my final magazines ideas, I can display the advantages of my music magazine and also I can develop my disadvantage, so they can turn to an advantage of my music magazine. Therefore I would be able to improve the layout or the style of the I have also researched into of my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine. At, I looked at other issues of Q magazine of how their articles and interview are displayed, so I can copy their style of interview or the questions the writer asked the artists or bands. Moreover, I will copy the language or images style in the Q magazine. Moreover, I will analysis the house style of my magazine inspiration, Q magazine and therefore you will analysis the font style and the colour scheme of the double page spread of the interview. Therefore, I will try to know the demographic of the readership of my music magazine. Finally, I have drawn some draft sketches of the front cover and a double page spread . I included ‘repeat’ (Steve Neal) of Q magazines. This is important because by by developing the two draft sketches of the front cover and double page spreads , I can know what my final magazine will like and therefore easier for me to know what and how I need to develop my music magazine. This will help me to design both of my music magazine, as I will have my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine to help me to design my music magazine and I will also have the hand drawn sketch and also graphic layouts of my front cover and the double page spread, to help me to design my magazine and this will help to me to know where to place magazine convention such as the main image or the headline quote.
