2. MY MAGAZINE
What I am promoting to you today is a brand
new magazine named. It will provide brand
new and exclusive coverage of the latest
music artists and news and also feature a
wide range of content on music from the
past such as musical legends and music
history. The magazine is not restricted to a
single genre of music but covers music in
general and will have frequent and up to date
coverage on all music ranging from rock to
mainstream pop to hip hop meaning it will
appeal to a mass audience and have a large
selling point.
3. CONTENT AND HOUSE STYLE
In terms of house style the magazine is similar to that of
Q, NME, Rolling Stone etc. and therefore will appeal
to a similar target audience. Because Q magazine is
already run by Bauer Media Group this could fit into
your production identity and would be a successful
selling point as Q fans would also want to read this.
The front cover will feature the masthead which will
create a powerful brand identity. There will also be a
main image which will be close-up/mid shot of an
artist that is featured within the issue. The majority
of articles will be focused on a particular band or
artist and will vary between each issue to maintain
the attention of the mass audience. I intend it to be of
a similar style to the example on the right.
4. THE TARGET AUDIENCE
A wide amount of research has been
undertaken into studying who the target
audience is and how I can make the
magazine appeal to them. This includes
questionnaires and then an in-depth focus
group interview with fans of Q magazine
to see what they liked about it and what
they thought was missing and could be
improved. The demographics of the
audience would range from the ages of 16-
35 in the middle class range. The
psychographics include a wide range of
interests and lifestyles that aren’t
specialised into one particular theme, this
represents the wide range of music that
that the magazine covers. The images on
this page show some of the hobbies and
lifestyles of the target audience.
5. HOW IT WILL BE SUCCESSFUL AND APPEAL TO
THE TARGET AUDIENCE
Because the magazine has a wide target audience to appeal to it will
include a range of content that will maintain the attention and
enjoyment of the reader. The cover will have a unique and bold style
that the audience will associate with the house style of the magazine
and will be able to relate between different issues, therefore
encouraging them to buy the magazine again and again. The magazine
will feature plenty of coverage on brand new and upcoming artists that
will appeal to the younger range of the target audience who would have
more interest in the current music scene. There will also be frequent
coverage of music from the 80’s, 90’s etc. that will appeal to the older
target audience who will be able to relate to the music that they grew up
with for example. The magazine will have a formal yet laid back and
humorous tone to maintain the sophisticated and informative house
style while also befriending the reader and creating a more interesting
experience. This will encourage first time readers to purchase the
magazine again and guarantee it to be a popular smash success.
