1. 1. I have looked at two different magazine front covers and compared the two, one being a mainstream magazine with a wider audience, and the other is little lies, which is a niche magazine targeting a smaller audience.
 2. 2.

What are the forms and conventions of the front cover?

Empire is the masthead (main title), suggesting it knows everything, having the control and power. The splash is the main cover line or feature, which in this case is the ‘THE DARK KNIGHT’. A promotional shot has been used instead of a screenshot. The layout uses a close up image of a character from the film to show the facial expression of the character give the audience a sense of what genre the film is. the colour code connote the title ‘the dark night’. Showing the audience the dark side and relating the context to the image. Empire overall individualise different films and doesn’t have much use of sell lines, instead use a more general and basic front cover to promote their films.
