2. HISTORY OF RADIATION
• Radiation was discovered by Antoine Henri
Becquerel and Madam Curie
3. • They received Nobel Prize in the year 1903 for
their Discovery of Radioactivity .
• Again she won Noble prize for discovery of
radioactive elements polonium and radium
• The Irony is that both these scientists died
because they were exposed to radioactivity
which caused toxicity in their body
4. DIFFERENT TYPES OF RADIATION
X RAY RADIATION:
This type of radiation occurs when a X ray
photon collides with an atom .
5. Gamma Radiation:
Gamma Radiation emission is a nuclear process that
occurs when an Unstable nucleus of reaction excess
energy is emitted in a nuclear reaction
6. Alpha Radiation:
When two alpha particles(helium nuclei) collide
with each other then certain amount of
radiation is emitted , this radiation is known as
alpha radiation.
7. Beta Radiation:
• When two Tritium ions collide with each other to
form a helium atom then certain amount of
radiation is emitted , this radiation is known as
Beta radiation.
8. Neutron Radiation:
When a slow moving neutron collides with
Uranium then Uranium decomposes to give
Barium and Krypton and a few neutrons ,this
phenomena is known as Neutron radiation .
9. Ultraviolet Radiation:
Ultraviolet light gets reflected by the ozone layer
in atmosphere , this causes Ultraviolet Radiation
Ultravoilet Radiation causes Ultraviolet
Radiation
10. ADVANTAGES OF RADIATION
Radiation is used in medical field :
It is used in the process of diagnosis and
Therapy
It is used in the process of chemotherapy
It is used in X Ray scanners .
11. Radiation is used in Research labs:
NASA uses UV Radiation to identify planets
present in farthest galaxies
Radiation is used as a Raw component in many
toxic Experiments
Radiation in communication field:
All modern mobiles use different types of
electromagnetic radiation
12. DRAWBACKS OF RADIATION
Despite being a very fast mode of transferring
waves, if there are obstacles between the source of
radiation and its destination, it'll affect the strength
of the radiated wave depending on the 'penetrative
power' of the obstacles, and the amount of
obstacles.
Radiation waves are present everywhere in our
everyday lives( radio waves, wifi, bluetooth, infra
red, etc...) Ant these cause infertility and develop
cancerous cells, with time.
