This paper examines the positive and some negative aspects of Strategic Human Resource
Management (SHRM) and explores the varying possibilities used to successfully facilitate SHRM
within organisations. The significance and advantages of SHRM for organisations is vast and
historically evident, consequently the vast literature pertaining to SHRM benefits, restricts a
comprehensive report covering all aspects and therefore is beyond the limitations of this paper.
Historically, the implications of SHRM to organisations has positively correlated to organisational
performance. A synergy exists between organisational strategy and HR implications, an
organisational strategy implicitly determines the HR functions, which consequently determine ...

(Huselid, Jackson, & Schuler 1997). SHRM has been established to reduce attrition rates, because of
the recognition and attention paid to the investment of intellectual capital (Mitchell, Obeidat & Bray
2013). Furthermore, intellectual capital investments have positively correlated with organisational
performance, however, such findings require an independent analysis within organisational levels, to
illustrate; organisational knowledge has been identified to negatively correlate with the recruitment
of expert employees within knowledge–based organisations (Hatch & Dyer 2004 cited in Lengnick–
Hall et al 2009). Organisations undergoing transformations (e.g. public/private sector, profit/non–
profit) have statically gravitated towards adopting SHRM (Chow, Teo & Chew 2012). Respectively,
during mergers and acquisitions, the success rate grows significantly higher when SHRM is
involved during the due diligence phase (Latukha & Panibratov 2013). Organisations operating in
international environments are also rapidly adopting SHRM to sustain the cultural diversities and
economical dynamics and consider SHRM vital for success (Ananthram, Nankervis & Chan 2013).

Western Michigan University Recycling
Introduction
Common categories of recycling include paper, plastics, metals, and glass. However, bio–waste is
wasted every day as well as the other categories. Bio–waste is waste material capable of breaking
down under aerobic or anaerobic conditions. Due to the nature of this waste it is easier to break
down and recycle. Bio–waste is usually recycled through composting or using the scraps to feed
other organisms (Dusseldorf, 1998).
Businesses such as the one in this article, by Andy Watkins, show how Wrights GPX is used
recycling to decrease costs. Recycling is less costly than sending trash to landfills as space is
running out. Also landfills harm the environment and make companies look bad by sending large
quantities of trash to them (Watkins, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Western currently has recycling bins across campus, both indoors and outdoors. These bins, which
the custodial department is responsible for, have sections for paper, plastics, and landfill materials,

services at the university serve products grown or processed in the Great Lakes Region, which helps
reduce waste from transportation. To reduce waste, from food and water, by 30% the dining halls
stopped using trays. It was found that trays increased the proportion sizes people would take

Students know money a major contributing factor of stress in every individual's life. How are we
going to pay next months rent, next semester's tuition, books, food, etc? Stress comes in various
types. Whether we realize it or not, students must be able to recognize symptoms of stress in order
to know if their body or mind is affected.
"Symptoms of stress appear in many forms. Some symptoms only affect the person who is directly
experiencing stress. Other symptoms may have an impact on our relationships with others." (Archer
& Carroll, 2003, Stress and College Students, Para 5). This paper discusses the three categories
of symptoms one encounters with stress. The first symptom that one might face deals with the
physical aspect of their body.
Have you ever worked on a project that gave you a headache after much thought? One might face
this physical symptom. Muscular tensions, colds, ulcers and high blood pressure are but a few
physical symptoms of stress (Archer & Carroll, 2003). Next are the emotional symptoms.
Have you ever reached a point mentally where you were so overwhelmed you felt you could not go
on? This is an example of an emotional symptom of stress. This is one of the most common
emotional symptoms that a college student might face. Depression, anger and mood swings (Archer
& Carroll, 2003) are also common emotional symptoms encountered when one is stressed. Last

Professionalism And Technology
Technology is all around us, no matter where we look it's there. That alarm clock with the worn out
snooze button, your phone, the TV you have but don't use cause you got netflix and so much more!
Technology is constantly changing, growing, evolving. There'll be an Iphone 7 one day and the next
week the Iphone 8 will come out with bigger and better features. It has become a big part of our
lives, especially for the younger generations, millennials and so forth. We witnessed the
technological evolution and it has now become a part of our identity. However for some, they find
technology revolting or as plague that has struck society. Technology is great it gives us more
opportunities in a professional aspect, it's capabilities are beyond what a human can do and some
people may disagree but technology has many features that help us.
Technology provides a new level of professionalism into the world. Imagine walking into a meeting

Project Management : The Volkswagen Crisis Essay

Final Exam Case Study

October 9, 2016
Organizations have become engrossed on achieving rapid outcomes for their projects, which result
in actions that essentially contradict the fundamental purpose of project management. The
Volkswagen crisis could have avoided if the Volkswagen organization had good management and
strong leadership throughout the life cycle of the project. To avoid the existing crisis to repeat itself,
the incoming CEO for Volkswagen organization must set the standard, hold managers accountable,
and ensure the organization is meeting the desired outcomes.
In the case study of Volkswagen, the project management team failed to use the project life cycle as
the foundation for managing the project (Pinto, 1990). The Volkswagen crisis could have initially
been avoided during the defining stage. According to Larson and Clifford, good management brings
about order and stability by formulating plans and objectives, designing structures and procedures,
monitoring results against plans, and taking corrective actions when necessary (Larson & Gray,
2014). As the project manager for this project, I would have first defined the specification of the
project. By properly defining the project, the project management would have detected that diesel
engine for the Volkswagen was not meeting the emission standard (Hutchinson, 2015). This could
have been also avoided if the project management had

Strategic Leadership and Decision-Making: Ethics and Values

TOPIC: STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND DECISION–MAKING: ETHICS AND VALUES
APRIL, 2010

Values and ethics are central to any organization. What exactly do we mean by values and ethics?
Both are extremely broad terms, and we need to focus in on the aspects most relevant for strategic
leaders and decision makers. What we will first discuss is the distinctive nature of ethics; second,
we will take a look at work ethics; third we will look into strategic leadership and decision making;

In the same perspective, Denga (1986) defines work ethics as "ethical standards which guide the
performance of group members, governs their preparation or training, and serves as legal or
constitutional and ethical control." But Iwu (1995) defined work ethics as "behavioural code of
conduct which involves both the desirable and undesirable activities of workers in various
occupations and associations." This definition shows that work ethics could be positive or negative.
While negative work ethics which produces such behaviours as lateness to work, abandonment of
duty, insubordination, truancy, disloyalty, indiscipline, absenteeism, non–conmmitment, etc is
dysfunctional to organisational effectiveness. Positive work ethics which produces such lofty
manifestations as punctuality, hard work, dedication to duty, selfless service, loyalty, regularity in
attendance to work, discipline, cooperation, and so on, is an indispensable condition to high
productivity.
Work ethics takes its roots, and indeed is conditioned by, the culture of the society in which the
work organisation is situated. Generally, a well established work group or organisation establishes a
standard code of conduct suited for the organisation which is designed to guide the organisational
behaviour of workers and also serve as a source of unity within the organisation. Positive work
ethics serves as a source of motivation, fosters hard work and aims at high

Essay about Resource Mangement for Clean Water in Households
Despite it's abundance, water is a precious resource. Without it, life on earth would cease to exist in
less than two weeks. It's no surprise then that the Department of the Interior has seven agencies
tasked in some capacity with the regulation, distribution, filtration, and preservation of clean water.
1 But in reality, while these federal agencies do serve a purpose, they are not demonstrably involved
with the process of bringing clean water to households. That is the job of the states and localities.
Florida, due to it's size, shape, topography, and population centers, serves as an an excellent case

The SFWMD uses machines that pump the water out of streets, and these pumps run on expensive
fuel. If a major hurricane were to flood South Florida, the SFWMD, with it's current budget, does
not have the funds to remove water from the streets. The budget cuts not only have environmental
consequences, but public health and economic consequences as well. These budget cuts can have
additional disastrous effects for a system that is already poorly designed. Currently, excess water
from Lake Okoeechobee is being dumped into the St. Lucie Canal and the Callsahatchee River,
which poses environmental problems. 4 The fact that the water is being dumped at high levels is a
result of the SFWMD system having been designed without the knowledge of the negative impact it
would have on the estuaries. When the system was built in the 1940's, the damage was simply
unforeseeable. However, there are two factors unique to the geography of Florida that are
exacerbating the need for dumping, and they both have to do with rising water levels of Lake
Okeechobee. First, less water is leaving Lake Okeechobee. The creation of the Everglades
Agricultural area has essentially cut off the flow of water from Lake Okeechobee to the Everglades,
which served as a key outlet for water to flow to. 5 In addition, more water is entering Lake

2 MINING PROJECT RISKS
The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), stated that project risk is an uncertain
event or condition that, if it occurs, has positive or negative effects on at least one project objective,
such as time, cost, scope, or quality (PMI 2004). PRM includes the processes concerned with
conducting risk management (RM) planning, identification, analysis, responses, and monitoring and
control on a project; most of these processes are updated throughout a project. According to the
PMBOK RM has been designated as one of the nine PM knowledge areas (the other eight being
integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communications, and procurement
management). Consequently, RM is considered as an important activity of the PM process. Mining
projects are subject to high risk because of their size, complexity and high cost. Unfortunately, very
little research related to a particularly mining project risks have been conducted up to date. Most of
the research related to mining project risks studied oil and petroleum well development projects. Del
Cano and de la Cruz (2002) noted that RM becomes an integral part of project management and
plays such an important role that its application goes beyond the traditional scope which normally
center on the construction phase. Williams (1995) stated in his paper titled "A classified

Inventory Mangement At Mcdonald ' S Essay
INVENTORY MANGEMENT AT MCDONALD'S:
This process begins from the procurement of raw materials from the suppliers. Raw materials
include cheese, sesame seeds, lettuce, vegetable products, etc. The various suppliers of these are:
Dynamix Dairy Industries Ltd, Pune for cheese and Trikaya Agriculture, Pune for iceberg lettuce
Chicken Patty from Vista Foods and vegetable patty from Kitran Foods, Taloja
Buns from Cremica Industries, Phillaur and Sesame Seeds from Ghaziabad.
These raw materials are then supplied to the distribution centers in lorries with three sections so that
they can be stored at proper temperatures– frozen, chilled and ambient. There are three main
distribution centers at Mumbai, Delhi and Kochi. McDonald's has both cold and dry storage
facilities where materials are stored in at suitable temperatures upto –22 degrees celsius. From these
distribution centers, the delivery trucks carry these materials to the outlets around 3–5 times a week,
where it is converted into the finished product.
McDonald's uses the First In, First Out inventory process, where the items received first, are the
ones which are used first. It uses Just–In–Time inventory system, where the raw materials are

Often front line managers will have responsibility for people management which will involve the
application of HR policies and procedure (e.g. development plans, performance management

Clearly it is in the interests of an organisation to ensures line managers have the necessary attributes
to successfully manage and lead employees in order to ensure an organisations strategic plans are
implemented and its goals are met, Valenti (quoted in Management & Organisational Behaviour –
LJ Mullins 2007) suggest that there are 5 essential qualities a manager must attain to become a

passion (enthusiasm and commitment) and values (a strong sense of enduring standards of

Human Motivation and Mangement Skills
Many people get satisfaction from their work and take pride in what they do, while others may view
it as only as a mere way of survival. In an attempt to identify successful approaches to management,
theorists and social psychologists have expounded theories on human motivation and skills. Social
psychologist Douglas McGregor set forth two contrasting theories on human motivation and
management in the 1960's: Theory X and the Theory Y. McGregor promoted Theory Y as the basis
of good management practice, pioneering the argument that workers are not merely pawns in the
company, as his Theory X type organizations seemed to believe (Cronkhite,2007). Both theories
look at how a manager's perceptions of what motivates his or her team members affect the way he or
she behaves allowing one to adapt their approach. McGregor's Theories X and Y Many people get
the satisfaction from their work and take great pride in it; while others may view it as a burden or
simply a means to survive. In attempts to identify successful approaches to management, social
psychologist Douglas McGregor expounded two contrasting theories on human motivation and
management know as Theory X and Theory Y. Promoting Theory Y as the basis of good
management practice, and with personal views that workers are not mere pawns within the
companies' hierarchy structure as Theory X suggested. The theories look at how a manager's

time strategy. I developed the time strategy based on a short list of time priorities. Secondly, I
reasonably estimated the time required to perform each of the tasks at hand. Before organizing time,
I was spending extra time on one task while leaving little time for other task. As a result, I was
running behind in time and was not be able to perform all the tasks which were required to finish in

should be spent on all major facets of life. In many circumstances, setting priorities helps me
identify tasks that are not necessary or perhaps can even delegated to someone else. Furthermore, I
was scheduling too many things to be finished in short period of time which was making me

  • 1. The Positive and Some Negative Aspecs of Strategic Human... This paper examines the positive and some negative aspects of Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) and explores the varying possibilities used to successfully facilitate SHRM within organisations. The significance and advantages of SHRM for organisations is vast and historically evident, consequently the vast literature pertaining to SHRM benefits, restricts a comprehensive report covering all aspects and therefore is beyond the limitations of this paper. Historically, the implications of SHRM to organisations has positively correlated to organisational performance. SHRM has been established to reduce attrition rates, because of the recognition and attention paid to the investment of intellectual capital (Mitchell, Obeidat & Bray 2013). Furthermore, intellectual capital investments have positively correlated with organisational performance, however, such findings require an independent analysis within organisational levels, to illustrate; organisational knowledge has been identified to negatively correlate with the recruitment of expert employees within knowledge–based organisations (Hatch & Dyer 2004 cited in Lengnick– Hall et al 2009). Organisations undergoing transformations (e.g. public/private sector, profit/non– profit) have statically gravitated towards adopting SHRM (Chow, Teo & Chew 2012). Respectively, during mergers and acquisitions, the success rate grows significantly higher when SHRM is involved during the due diligence phase (Latukha & Panibratov 2013). Organisations operating in international environments are also rapidly adopting SHRM to sustain the cultural diversities and economical dynamics and consider SHRM vital for success (Ananthram, Nankervis & Chan 2013). However, bio–waste is wasted every day as well as the other categories. Bio–waste is waste material capable of breaking down under aerobic or anaerobic conditions. Due to the nature of this waste it is easier to break down and recycle. Bio–waste is usually recycled through composting or using the scraps to feed other organisms (Dusseldorf, 1998). Businesses such as the one in this article, by Andy Watkins, show how Wrights GPX is used recycling to decrease costs. How are we going to pay next months rent, next semester's tuition, books, food, etc? Stress comes in various types. Some symptoms only affect the person who is directly experiencing stress. Other symptoms may have an impact on our relationships with others." (Archer & Carroll, 2003, Stress and College Students, Para 5). This paper discusses the three categories of symptoms one encounters with stress. The first symptom that one might face deals with the physical aspect of their body. Have you ever worked on a project that gave you a headache after much thought? The Volkswagen crisis could have avoided if the Volkswagen organization had good management and strong leadership throughout the life cycle of the project. To avoid the existing crisis to repeat itself, the incoming CEO for Volkswagen organization must set the standard, hold managers accountable, and ensure the organization is meeting the desired outcomes. This definition shows that work ethics could be positive or negative. While negative work ethics which produces such behaviours as lateness to work, abandonment of duty, insubordination, truancy, disloyalty, indiscipline, absenteeism, non–conmmitment, etc is dysfunctional to organisational effectiveness. Positive work ethics which produces such lofty manifestations as punctuality, hard work, dedication to duty, selfless service, loyalty, regularity in attendance to work, discipline, cooperation, and so on, is an indispensable condition to high productivity. If a major hurricane were to flood South Florida, the SFWMD, with it's current budget, does not have the funds to remove water from the streets. The budget cuts not only have environmental consequences, but public health and economic consequences as well. These budget cuts can have additional disastrous effects for a system that is already poorly designed. Currently, excess water from Lake Okoeechobee is being dumped into the St. Lucie Canal and the Callsahatchee River, which poses environmental problems. 4 The fact that the water is being dumped at high levels is a result of the SFWMD system having been designed without the knowledge of the negative impact it would have on the estuaries. When the system was built in the 1940's, the damage was simply unforeseeable. However, there are two factors unique to the geography of Florida that are exacerbating the need for dumping, and they both have to do with rising water levels of Lake Okeechobee. First, less water is leaving Lake Okeechobee. The creation of the Everglades Agricultural area has essentially cut off the flow of water from Lake Okeechobee to the Everglades, which served as a key outlet for water to flow to. 5 In addition, more water is entering Lake Okeechoee.
