1. We were to follow two people on Twitter. The two people I chose were Dwight Carter
and Kyle Pace. Dwight Carter is the principal at New Albany High School and was also named
the NASSP Digital Principal of the Year. The theme of his twitter is somewhat technology. He
goes into details with certain things that deal with technology, but he also discusses different
educational things such as the importance or unimportance of grades, stepping out of the
traditional ways in the classroom and for homework, and so on. I liked Dwight’s tweets; they
were informational and not always on the same topic.
The other person I followed, Kyle Pace, is an Instructional Technology Specialist/Google
Certified Teacher. His twitter mainly focused on technology, integrating it into the classrooms,
and teaching the younger students how to work with technology at such a young age. Though his
tweets were mainly dealing with technology that is not the only thing he tweeted about. Kyle
also discussed topics such as assessment and teaching collaboration among students. I liked
Kyle’s twitter more because he tweeted more often and with lots of informational tips for when
we become teachers. Still, both great people to follow and I have learned so much from it.
The next account we were required to follow was the WiseinWV twitter account. This
account was for sex education in not only in West Virginia, but in the entire nation. It is probably
named that because of the local events posted on there. I found it very interesting to learn more
facts about HIV and AIDS, though they were disheartening. Because of my following this
account, I learned that about 5,500 people die every day due to sexually transmitted diseases.
That number seems outrageously high and some people do not even know they have the diseases.
I am glad that there is sex education in the schools because it is obviously very vital. This twitter
account is also helpful in learning more about STDS and everyone should be aware of them.
2. We were also required to follow the CI350 class. This twitter account was also useful.
Though it did not really give us information pertaining to the class itself, it was still beneficial.
This twitter account varied from different apps that could be useful, articles that dealt with
different useful tips for the classroom or ways to integrate things into them, or links to helpful
websites. I liked the link to the quick survey. Surveys are great ways to receive feedback and
answers to questions; this could be an activity in the steps of completing an assignment
pertaining to project based learning.
The last twitter account we were told to follow could be of our choice. I chose the
“Common White Girl” account because the posts are funny and really relatable. There is also
good information on there, such as the app PhotoMath, where you scan a picture of your math
equation and it will not only give you the answer, but give you the steps to get the answer; that
was really cool. There are also posts about school related things such as finals, and the stress that
comes along with it. I am glad I followed this account because it was comical and a nice break
from the other accounts we were required to follow. They all were good accounts and I am happy
I did follow them, so I can learn helpful tips for my future classroom.
