Assure Method – 
Analyze learners – 6th grade class, 16 students, 3 with ADHD, 70% White, 15% African 
American, 10% Hispanic; 75% on grade level or above 
State Objectives - My students will describe in chronological order an explanation of Christopher 
Columbus’ life through the use of posters and songs with at least 75% accuracy by the end of the 
day. 
Select methods, media, and materials – All forms of learning will be utilized because different 
people learn different ways. There will be much technology involved. Students will learn about 
posters, how efficient they are and the steps to create one. They will also sing along to a song 
about Christopher Columbus. Students will also be required to collaborate in a group together. 
Utilize media and materials - Completing different types of assignments make the classroom 
more exciting and students will be engaged in it more. 
Require learner participation – Because it gets the students active in the learning with the fun, 
different ways of learning, it automatically has all learner participation. Giving the students 
choices when doing an activity only involves them more. 
Evaluate and Revise – Students will be evaluated not only on the assessments specifically 
marked “assessment”, but they will also be watched in the classroom. It is the teacher’s 
responsibility to ensure every student is succeeding and if one is falling behind, you help that 
student. It is also important to give praise for work because without it, it can be discourage them 
to learn when the whole point is motivation. Students will always have the chance to revise, 
because without having the opportunity to do so, they may never learn from their mistakes. 
Tuesday – The students will learn how to collaborate in a group. They will have read a timeline 
given to them, and from there be assigned a certain time frame to create their poster. They will 
create their poster using PowerPoint. The poster can look any way the students want to since 
they have a “voice and a choice”. Giving the students choices when assigning work is necessary 
for them to become more active or interested in it. After that, the students will present their 
poster to the class. To wrap things up for Tuesday, there will be a sing along to wind down the 
day. We will listen to the song twice because repetition is a great way for students to learn. My 
students will have a homework assignment that involves a social network: Twitter. The students 
will learn that social networks can be useful in the classroom because it gives the students a 
chance to learn differently and communicate with people around the world for more well-roundedness. 
They are to follow a history-themed account and tweet at least ten different times 
regarding Christopher Columbus answering questions, posing questions, expressing opinions, or 
telling puns.
