Assure method for Wednesday's class

1. Assure Method –
Analyze learners – 6th grade class, 16 students, 3 with ADHD, 70% White, 15% African
American, 10% Hispanic; 75% on grade level or above
State Objectives - My students will describe in chronological order, a detailed explanation of
Christopher Columbus’ life, through the use of YouTube videos, storytelling, making podcasts,
and created robots with at least 80% accuracy or more.
Select methods, media, and materials – All forms of learning will be utilized because different
people learn different ways. There will be much technology involved. Students will learn about
QR codes, Voki’s, blogs, WebQuests, posters, YouTube videos, storytelling videos, podcasts,
robots, and other materials.
Utilize media and materials - Completing different types of assignments make the classroom
more exciting and students will be engaged in it more.
Require learner participation – Because it gets the students active in the learning with the fun,
different ways of learning, it automatically has complete learner participation. Giving the
students choices when doing an activity only involves them more.
Evaluate and Revise – Students will be evaluated not only on the assessments specifically
marked “assessment”, but they will also be watched in the classroom. It is the teacher’s
responsibility to ensure every student is succeeding and if one is falling behind, you help that
student. It is also important to give praise for work because without it, it can be discourage them
to learn when the whole point is motivation. Students will always have the chance to revise,
because without having the opportunity to do so, they may never learn from their mistakes.
Wednesday – My classroom will watch a storytelling video on YouTube and take notes. They
will learn the different voyages Columbus made by watching the video. They will also learn in
the process of how to create a storytelling video. Since a podcast will be easier for students, they
are going to create one. We will all help create scripts together. To get to the link they need to
be, students will scan the QR code on the board, using their phones. That is the great thing about
technology, everything can be connected. The students will be able to find the address of the
podcast maker, and create one at home. After they have scanned the code, they will get into
teams and once again think critically, design, and collaborate. They are to build a functioning
robot using the Hummingbird device, and the actual robot to be made of recycled materials. The
robot should deal with Christopher Columbus in some way such as, a ship robot, a Christopher
Columbus robot, or even a globe or map-type robot; just as long as it is connected to him. The
robot will have different commands. These commands will not be so difficult because of the age
level. Most students are on or above grade level, and can take on a task such as this.
