Columbus

 4th grade class 
 16 students - 3 with ADHD, 70% White, 15% 
African American, 10% Hispanic 
 Use all 3 methods of learning 
 75% on grade level or above
Main Objective 
 My students will describe in chronological 
order Christopher Columbus’ life through 
the use of games, songs, group work, and 
crafts with 70% accuracy by the end of week.
Lesson Plan 
 Monday: KWL chart; students will copy the chart down. 
Popcorn read a handout out on Christopher Columbus’ 
life 
 Tuesday: Get into groups of four and create a colorful 
timeline on large paper using the website 
http://www.softschools.com/timelines/christopher_col 
umbus_timeline/14/. Present the times each group was 
assigned. Listen to a song about Christopher Columbus, 
sing along
Lesson Plan (continued) 
 Wednesday: Watch a video on YouTube about 
Christopher Columbus. Do a guided scavenger hunt 
online 
 Thursday: Assessment day. Have children write down 
ten facts they have learned about Christopher 
Columbus. They will make a map of his voyages and 
ships 
 Friday: Finish map and play Christopher Columbus 
jeopardy

 Use of internet 
 Each student has their own class laptop 
 Jeopardy game 
 YouTube – songs and biographical videos 
 Online guided scavenger hunt
