U.S. Economy in 1800s
The scale of textile factories changed during this period. The small mills with a few dozen spindles
and looms that characterized the initial period of the industry gave way to larger complexes. This
pattern began with the Boston Associates complex at Waltham, Massachusetts. Waltham itself soon
appeared small as the Boston Associates developed Lowell on the Merrimac River. The population
of Lowell increased from 2,500 in 1826 to 35,000 in 1850. The Lowell Machine Shop became a
center for innovation not only in textile machinery but waterpower technology as well. It also
trained a generation of industrial engineers that spread throughout the economy. Lowell attracted
further international attention because of its labor system that employed... Show more content on

In 1775, Daniel Boone blazed the Cumberland Trail, and in 1783 the Treaty of Paris gave the
newly formed United States all lands west to the Mississippi River. With the end of the war,
American interest in the West reached a new level of intensity. This second great migration had
significant impact on American society. it is clear that this westward movement was a major factor
in the nation s subsequent development. And that was certainly the case where American
Christianity was concerned. In the wake of the Revolution, churches faced three major tasks: (1)
organization (2) reviving vital religion and (3) following the population westward. The future of
the Church was contingent on dealing with all three problems. Churches soon recognized that in
such a large area, the old parish system which assumed a town would not work. Concerns that the
West would lapse into barbarism or worse that the Catholic missionaries would reach these people
first, created a crisis atmosphere in some quarters. French Catholics had long been active in the
Northwest and along the Mississippi. People on the frontier were attracted to those who preached a
more emotional faith, and dismissed of the more sophisticated rational faith of the Eastern seaboard.
Churches that proved flexible in seeking these

How to Incorporate the Fraud Triangle Theory
The term of fraud triangle was developed by Dr. Donald Cressey, a criminologist who studied
embezzlers. The three basic elements of fraud triangle include perceived pressure, perceived
opportunity, and the ability to rationalize. It explains the nature of many fraud offenders and also
become a tool to assess the risk of fraud. It is important to companies to incorporate the fraud
triangle theory in order to reduce the risk of fraud within their organization. From my standpoint,
companies should incorporate the fraud triangle from the following aspects.
First, companies should perform background investigation in order to uncover the perceived
pressure. The factors that create pressure include personal financial pressure (high levels of ... Show

While some employees feel they are underpaid and deserve more money. A strong ethical culture
and could be helpful in preventing rationalization, since the employees may not regards fraud is
morally acceptable in good corporate culture. Attractive employee benefit also helps company
reduce the risk. Once everyone is treated as a family member and satisfied with what they get from
the company, they will not commit fraud definitely. Although it is impossible to satisfy every
employee, attractive benefit should reduce the risk a lot.
In conclusion, I believe the fraud triangle is significant to a corporation. It is necessary to
companies to prevent fraud by incorporating the fraud triangle theory. After all, companies cannot
only rely on the external auditors or the fraud examiners. They have the responsibility to reduce the
risk of fraud by themselves. Probably, they can avoid some further costs as well. References

The Stanford Prison Experiment
The Stanford prison experiment was conducted at Stanford University on August 14th through
August 20th in 1971, by a team of researchers headed by psychology professor Philip Zimbardo.
This experiment used college students and was funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research.
The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps were both very interested in this particular experiment due to
the many violent outbreaks and conflicts between military guards and prisoners. In 2010
Hollywood produced a movie on the events of the Stanford prison experiment. The movie was
all about a study on how people would behave in a simulated setting of a prison. It starts off with
an advertisement in the newspaper looking for subjects to be a part of an experiment, where
participants assume the identities of inmates and prison guards in an empty jail, the subjects are
promised a payment of $1,000 a day for two weeks. After several interviews were conducted
measuring the test subject s responses to a number of different violent scenes, twenty six
subjects are finally chosen and are split into two categories: six of them as guards and twenty of
them as prisoners. All of these men are considered to be the most psychologically stable and
healthy of all of the applicants. The groups were deliberately selected to exclude those with
criminal backgrounds, psychological impairments, or medical problems. They then are driven to an
isolated building set up as a prison. The research conductor outlined basic rules of the

Analysis of Intel
Intel Analysis
1. How would you explain Intel s initial dominance and subsequent decline in DRAMs?
Intel excels at top down innovation, where highly differentiated components and electronics
command a high gross margin relative to competitors, enabling faster design wins with Original
Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and development partners. This top down innovation flow
within Intel is so dominant, that the product design teams are significantly more productive than
even the most advanced business process management teams (Segerstrom, 2007). Microprocessors
and the follow on Internet, networking, security and integrated motherboard products are all
predicated on this top down innovation cycle that leads to product line proliferation in Intel
(Zimmerman, 2010). DRAMS were undifferentiated in structure, lacked industry standards that
could create differentiated performance or compatibility based on adherence or alignment to
standards or customer requirements (Nicholson, 1997). Intel chose to compete on the only other
area of their core strength as a company, which is quality management and yield levels (Clark,
Walz, Turner, Miszuk, 1993). Getting the yields for DRAMS to 60%, which for a brief period of
time lead the global industry, only served to accelerate a very high level of commoditization in the
industry (Voss, 1998).
True to nearly any commoditized product, pricing and availability became the only two significant
differentiators quickly as Intel increased

Federal Funds On The State Of The Economy Essay

Federal Funds Rate
The Federal Funds Rate plays a huge role on the state of the economy in the United States. For
something that has such impact on the whole economy in the United States, it is very little known
and understood. The Federal Funds Rate may be the most important rate in the country. So what is
the Federal Funds Rate? It is an interest rate that is used when banks lend to other banks or other
depository institutions from funds that are maintained at the Federal Reserve (Target Rate). The
transaction can only be done overnight and by trustworthy institutions. The target rate is
determined by the Federal Open Market Committee (Target Rate). They will influence and
determine the rate that will be used. So if it doesn t have any first hand impact on a normal
consumer or business, why should anyone care about it? The answer to that is simple, the
Federal Funds Rate will greatly impact the economy in several areas and it will trickle down
onto the normal consumer and business. The Federal Funds Rate will change the economy if it
goes up, and if it goes down. As the year runs down, everyone will be watching with a close eye to
see what the Fed will do with the rate. The Federal Funds Rate will increase in December of
2016. Why will the Federal Funds Rate increase by the end of the year? One reason to believe
this is that the current chair Janet Yellen is not afraid to do so, as she did it just a year ago which
was the first in ten

Sweatshops In Poor Countries
They are complications in international trade. Classical views promise the benefits to both
countries from trade but the complications are when you look closer at how that trade might
actually hurt our country, their country, and both of our countries. For example, sweatshop labor
can benefit manufacturers and customers but what about the people working in them, some of
them would consider their labor exploitation by force and others consider it exploitation by choice.
This is the division, their views. Another complication is wolves in sheep s clothing meaning
someone or something that tries to appear appealing to you under a certain circumstance is actually
the exact opposite. So, opposition to having sweatshops in poor countries come from... Show more

One in particular question is could there be an end of the business cycle? To start, during that
period that stemmed for over two years of low inflation, low unemployment, and relatively steady
growth in the rich world really made it seem like it was possibly the end of the business cycle.
But then when the Financial Crisis of 2008 occurred and the Great Depression seemed to appear as
dГ©jГ vu. A bad monetary policy by the Federal Reserve was a big reason for the Great
Depression. Banks and other financial systems help circulate money and credit throughout an
economy, so it would be no surprise that a failure in the financial system can ruin an entire
economy. And the problem with the financial system is that it s stuck between market failure
and government failure, all of these things point to a possible end to the business cycle.
However, we re still a long way from the end of the business cycle even though monetary and
fiscal policies have improved greatly since the Great Depression. Another question posed was,
could there be an end to poverty? To start, to be realistic poverty isn t going to end in the 21st
century. In low and middle income countries, poverty is so prevalent that even the idea of an end
to poverty seems intangible in any near future. However economists have presented a new concept
called catch up which states that per capita GDP in poorer

Poetry, By Billy Collins, The Writer
Poetry comes in many forms, rhythms, tones, and meanings whether metaphoric or realistic. One
thing, however, which is a common trait of poetry, is that they all carry a message to the reader. In
some poems the message appears very clear and understandable, while in others, the author may
hide the message within metaphors and imagery. In the poem Introduction to Poetry by Billy
Collins, the writer enlightens his reader with an important message that poetry is something to
experience. He uses this poem to instruct and challenge the reader to search line by line for deeper
meanings and purpose within the poetry they encounter. The reader can read more deeply by using
critical and analytical thinking rather than taking poem literally.... Show more content on

The last two stanzas, however, allude to a way of thinking that the message of poetry will simply
and vividly stand out and lead to a way that allows them to be taken literally or at face value. Also,
the writer s tone clearly shows in the last two stanzas: But all they want to do is tie the poem to a
chair with rope and torture a confession out of it. They begin beating it with a hose to find out what
it really means. (12 16) They emphasize the exact way of thinking that the writer is instructing
against, challenging the readers to use their critical thinking by example of the first five stanzas.
Critical thinking is what the poem Introduction to Poetry calls for the reader to draw on and is a
skill that people develop through time and experience. A report from The Institute for Academic
Excellence defines critical thinking as purposeful self regulatory judgment, which manifests itself in
giving reasonable consideration to the evidence, methods and conceptual structures within which a
decision is made about what to believe or what to do. Contingent on the learning condition of a
classroom, students should be acquainted with critical thinking and encouraged to begin practicing
by the instructors. To cultivate critical thinking, students need to be studying topics of interest.
They need meaningful discussions and exposure to others ideas in an atmosphere which supports
the students ideas and thinking. A topic of interest is most important

only peasants but also well educated ones. As of 1848 1849, in several countries in Europe,
revolutions have started. They embraced France, Germany, the Austrian Empire and Italy. Never
before Europe had seen such a sharpening struggle. Although in different countries intensity of the
struggle was not the same, different events unfolded, but the one was undoubtedly clear: the
revolution got pan European scale.
In the German, Italy and Austrian Empire revolutions happened because the feudal system
prevented further success of capitalist development, while in France, the situation was different.
The revolution of 1848 in France was spawned by the development of the internal contradictions of

The Preservation Of Life In Solitude By Henry D. Thoreau
The preservation of nature is a very important topic in today s society. Everywhere from popular
media to politics, it is an often debated topic that if not taken seriously, it could mean the end of
nature, no, of life itself. Human beings although not always considered directly a part of nature, in
reality, are an integral composition of natureitself. However, mankind throughout the centuries has
wounded and destroyed nature. If viewed from a broader spectrum, they have been destroying
themselves. War, advancements in civilization, industrialization, and many more human
developments have brought nature life itself to the brink of annihilation. Nature is not only the
home of the wildlife that inhabit it, but has been man s home from their... Show more content on

Human beings have been blinded by modern society and its greed and thirst for power through
war. War and greed only causes unjustified damage to nature, life itself, and should be stopped. It
is not necessary for every human being to desert the comfort of their modern society and go live
in the wilderness. However, measures should be established to preserve and protect nature from
monetary greed; the unjustified elimination of Earths landscapes for profit driven means. There
should always be limits to deter the further destruction of our lands. Weapons capable of
committing mass destruction to nature should also be limited in their use and production; they not
only kill nature, but kill living beings including humans as well. If reasonable measures to preserve
and protect nature from warfare and greed can be established, at least to diminish the destruction
caused, nature can go on and be enjoyed by every individual now and

Horror Media Essay
Horror media has been around for many years. Era to era horror media has been passed down.
They started from just spoken words and myths, growing into much more. From the beginning,
horror movies have been a strong point in our culture and have adapted with it.
In the beginning, there was no such thing as the horror genre. Horror movies were then called
spook tales till the horror genre came around in the 1930 s. The first horror movie, or spook tail,
was a French silent film produced in 1896 called Le Manoir Du Diable or The House of the Devil.
It was created by Georges MГ©liГЁs, one of films most influential people at the time. During the
first world war, Germany had isolated them from the rest of the world. This caused Germany to
focus on film advance with movies like The Golem , which is considered as the first monster
movie. As silent films became obsolete, a new twist to the genre came with the advancements in
technology.
As we enter the 1930s, horror movies are officially classified as a genre. Also entering with the 30s

today, his work still influences the horror genre. The 60s also set a new bar for gore, with

The higher budget brought a higher production value, and that has left us with high tech and
thrilling movies like: The Exorcist , Jaws , Alien , The Shining , A Nightmare on Elm Street , and
Child s Play. With the 90s we shied away from the monsters of fiction and focused more on the

Code Switching Essay
In this world, there are a lot of languages used to communicate. Nation and cultural diversity are a
source of variation in the languages. The diversity of the language used by a particular group is a
factor of the occurrence of bilingualism. According to Grosjean (1984, p. 1) bilingualism is the
use of two or more languages. The proficiency of bilingualism may vary depending on the
exposure to the other users of language and opportunities to use the language. It is one of the
factors of replacement of the language. This phenomenon known as code switching, it can occur as
a whole, the incorporating elements of other languages in the language being used, or the turn of a
variation of a language. Based on Poplack (1980) theory code switching is the alternation of two
languages within a single discourse, sentence or constituent. Garrett (2010, p. 11) said that code
switching is the most powerful feature of informal communication. Code switching happens when

The Ottoman Empire ( 1299 ) Essay
Empire, Ottoman The Ottoman Empire (1299?1923) was a Turkish Muslim state that existed
for more than six hundred years. It was one of the largest and longest lived empires in history,
and it represented one of the greatest civilizations of the modern period. Its territories, at its
height, included Anatolia (part of present day Turkey), the Middle East, parts of East and North
Africa, and southeastern Europe, comprising a total area of more than 22 million square
kilometers (about 8.5 million square miles). The Ottoman state was established by a tribe of
Oghuz Turks as one of many small Turkish principalities that emerged in Anatolia during the
Mongolian breakdown of the Anatolian Seljuk State. The state was ruled by the Ottoman
dynasty of the Kayi tribe. The dynasty was founded by Osman I (ca. 1258?1324; in English,
Ottoman) in S?g??t, in the Marmara region of modern Turkey. THE PERIOD OF
ESTABLISHMENT AND EXPANSION Situated on the borders of the tottering Byzantine
Empire, Osman I quickly became a warrior of Islam, attracting the attention of wandering ghazis,
or warriors for the faith, in Anatolia. In 1299 the Byzantine city Bilecik fell to Turks. This
conquest was followed by the fall of many other Byzantine cities, villages, and forts during the
early 1300s. Some of the nearby Turkish beyliks (principalities) and tribes were also taken over
before Osman s death around 1324. Osman s son Orhan (r. 1326?1362) conquered Bursa in 1326.

Introduction
The purpose of the report is to gather beneficial information that is important to the user of a
workout app, such as features, usability, and functionalities.
Method
Five people provided interviews to gather the user observations. All five of these people enjoy
exercising on a daily basis. The group is comprised of three men and two women. All were
interviewed in person with pen and paper for data gathering. The data that was gathered was then
interpreted into needs and from that a survey was developed.
Results
The questions in Appendix A could get the most out of users because they cover all aspects of
design and they are simple. The most common feature in the app was music control. It would be
more convenient for the users to access and control their music directly in the app without having to

crowd went crazy. My teammates and my coaches ran and dog piled me. My heart was beating

teammates started chanting my name. The most crucial hour of my day was coming to an end,
but before we could go home our coaches made us all come into a huddle. The smell of sweaty
boys, the roar of the crowd, and the sweet taste of victory which tasted suspiciously like super
chocolatey brownies was all I could bring in. Normally after our games, our coach would talk for
10 or 15 minutes about what we could have done better, but this time he said only one thing to us
in that huddle: Well boys, this is definitely a day to

Essay about Dangers in Skyrim
Prologue There is a place where many adventures have gone and many have died. It is deep in
the earth, filled with evil beings. The evil beings called falmer dwell in this old city. This is no

I was shocked. To get a deadra heart would mean killing a mighty demon from oblivion. They are
very hard to find now after the oblivion crisis. And by the nine divines it is one of the rarest
metals in all of Skyrim. But here he was with the items in his hand ready. I could tell he was not an
ordinary warrior. I forged him the mighty sword, but such task was not as easy as it sounds. To be
able to use the deadra heart you must get it to 450 degrees and keep it at that exact temperature
for exactly 2 days. The ebony is also very hard to melt. You must use fire salts which will get the
forge to the highest heat that it can get to. The next few days the warrior stayed in the town. One
day I went to go talk to the man. I asked him what he does for a living. He said he was an
adventurer who traveled through Skyrim diving into dungeons, and treasure hunting often. This is
not an ordinary profession. The next day the sword was finished, and I presented it to him. He
seemed very pleased. He admired the great design. He brought a giant s skull, one of the
toughest items in Skyrim. He took the sword, and swung it at the skull. It made a clean cut. It not
only had magnificent beauty, but also deadly power. This is a sword to reckon with. The next
thing he said was shocking. He asked me to sharpen it. I debated that my mere grindstone would
only dull the blade, but he insisted. I sharped it to the best of my abilities and he

How Does The Appendix Affect The Human Body
The appendix is a tube shaped sac that is attached to and opening into the lower end of the large
intestine of humans and some other mammals. For human s the appendix is an average of 9
centimeters long, but can range from 2 centimeters to 20 centimeters. The diameter is between 7
centimeters to 8 centimeters. The appendix is most commonly located near the right hip bone in
the right lower quadrant of the abdomen(See Appendix A for image). The bottom portion of the
appendix is approximately two centimeters below the ileocecal valve, a sphincter muscle that
separates the small and large intestines. This sign is named after Dr. Charles McBurney; he was the

No scientist or research team has been able to discover what the appendix provides or does for
the body. Its has been an unsolved mystery for many years. A recent study done by a team of
scientists out of Midwestern University has suggested that the appendix does have a function for
the human body. The study was done by tracking a total number of 533 mammal species for an
overall of 11 million years. The team looked for specific instances in which the appendix had
disappeared or reappeared. When the organ would reappear this would show that there was an
evolutionary necessity for the appendix.
Through this research and intense study it was discovered that the appendix reappeared in
mammals between 29 and 41 times. The organ had only disappeared from lineages 12 times; this
strongly suggests that the appendix provides a function to the body that has not been discovered.
The authors of the study wrote, Thus, we can confidently reject the hypothesis that the appendix is
a vestigial structure with little adaptive value or functions among mammals. (Office of

The cool air and falling leaves is a sign of fall and Thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday. I
don t like my cousins very much and I m pretty sure the feeling is mutual. Thanksgiving is not that
cheerful for me. Years ago at Thanksgiving, I was not excited for it, just like every other year. My

The Eighth Amendment and Death Penalty Essay
The Eight Amendment to the U.S. Constitution Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive
fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted , proposed on 9/25/1789 and approved
on 12/15/1791. The cruel and unusual punishment confines the harshness of penalties that state and
federal governments may inflict upon ones who have been condemned of a criminal offense. The
excessive fines phrase restricts the amount that state and federal governments may possibly fine an
individual for a specific offense. The excessive bail phrase limits legal judgment in setting bail for
the discharge of persons indicted of an illegal action during the time following their capture but
prior to their trial. Mount, Steve, The Bill of Rights... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Michigan, another state of America, eliminated the death penalty for all offenses except betrayal.
After all, Rhode Island and Wisconsin were two states that put end for all crimes. After years

Input and Output Devices
INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES
In computing, input/output, or I/O, refers to the communication between an information
processing system (such as a computer), and the outside world possibly a human, or another
information processing system. Inputs are the signals or data received by the system, and
outputs are the signals or data sent from it. The term can also be used as part of an action; to
perform I/O is to perform an input or output operation. I/O devices are used by a person (or other
system) to communicate with a computer. For instance, a keyboard or a mouse may be an input
device for a computer, while monitors and printers are considered output devices for a computer.

Summary Of The Heavy Wooden Door Abruptly
Slam! The heavy wooden door abruptly halts producing a shockwave composed of eight years of
anger and grief. Nora turns around. With a mindless mechanical movement, she trudges through
the dense snow. Nora follows the footprints that lie ahead of her. The snow is so deep that she
barely manages to keep her stockings half dry. The darkness quickly consumes Nora. Her sense
of direction is guided only by faint footprints, and a lambent lantern. Nora is all alone. As Nora
crests the hill, she looks one last time at her estate. Nora can faintly see Torvald s outline in the
sitting room, frozen like a painting in time. Resolutely, she turns her body and makes her way
down the steep slope. The wind whips at Nora s face as it crinkles her clothes and flaps her hair.
With a sense of freedom, Nora skips down the hill with joy like a young bird experiencing flight
for its first time. She falls. Nora s hair and dress are littered with thick clumps of snow. She
tumbles down the hill and slides across the frozen Nytt Liv stream into a soft snowbank. Slightly
shaken, Nora outwardly exclaims, Oh dear! I do have a lot to learn! Nora continues to navigate
her way through the icy landscape for some time until she reaches Krogstad s snow covered shanty.
A sense of anomie accompanies her deadpan face frozen from the cold wind. After a few moments
of blank staring, Nora knocks on the door. A solemn hollow sound penetrates through the door and
echos through the house. After a few minutes, Nora

Dreaming In Cuban Analysis
Dreaming in Cuban is a novel written by Cristina GarcГa that examines three generations of a

separation. The separation of the family members results in miscommunication. Each member of

Celia speaks to her and Pilar receives her message. GarcГa incorporates this element of magical
realism to show that they both desperately want a relationship, but the distance and family conflict
only brings the two further apart. The lack of communication between the two allows them to
create their own versions of each other. Celia knows that Pilar wears overalls like a farmhand and
paints canvases with knots and whorls of red that resemble nothing at all (GarcГa, 7). Not only does
Celia envision what Pilar looks like, but she also envisions Pilar creating an abstract painting.
Celia also envisions Pilar as being pale and cold from malnutrition, this image reflects how Celia
feels about her daughter Lourdes. Celia does not trust that her daughter is a good mother and
knows how to nourish a child. Celia also states that she knows about Pilar s secret diary and how
Pilar keeps it hidden from her mother. The thought of Pilar hiding her diary and not allowing her
mother to invade her privacy makes Celia happy. Celia takes pleasure in knowing that Pilar defies
her mother. Celia believes her daughter is a traitor and knows that her granddaughter desires to

Women In The Mummy

ancient city of Hamunaptra. Hamunaptra is known for the ancient burial site for the sons of
pharaohs and also the resting place for the wealth of Egypt. There is were women in the movie.
One of them were Anck Su Namun which was the Pharaoh s mistress. The role she played was
to be high priest Imhotep s lover. She sacrificed her life in order to let Imhotep escape after
killing the Pharaoh, Seti. Imhotep and his priests attempts to resurrect Anck Su Namun, but just
as the ritual was about to be complete, Pharoah s soldiers stopped him and mummified his
priests alive. Imhotep suffered the worst possible case because he was the one leading the
assassination of the pharaoh. He was condemned to face Hom Dai, which was one of the worse
ancient curses. After being mummified, he was forever sealed inside his sarcophagus. If he
were to be released from his sarcophagus, he would reborn as a walking disease that would spread
and plague everything in his way. Several centuries later, in 1923, the archeologists start their first

Allocation Of Ordinary Maintenance Expenditures
Allocation of Ordinary Maintenance Expenditures (1b)
Similarly I used the ABC model to determine the amount of non personnel expenditures (or ordinary
maintenance) allocated to each Traffic Unit activity. Lieutenant Allen did not fully account for the
other overhead or maintenance expenditures assigned to Traffic Enforcement such as training,
office supplies, vehicle repairs, motor gas and oil costs. Our ABC analysis allocates approximately
$19,049 in ordinary maintenance expenditures to Traffic Enforcement (significantly more than the
$500 estimated by Lieutenant Allen from the line item budget). Based on staff interviews and the

The City appropriately uses a cost driver related to vehicle usage given its direct relationship to
the designated expenditures (vehicle repairs/gas and oil expenses) incurred by the Traffic Unit. By
applying a cost driver, the City of Somerville will objectively allocate expenditures across the
Traffic activity units that directly benefit from the cost incurred.
The City ABC team, in consultation with a top City manager, inventoried six activity centers
within the Traffic Unit: (1) Investigate Accidents; (2) Manage Tow Companies; (3) Traffic
Enforcement (including ticket issuance and court prosecution of tickets); (4) Staff/Supervise
Crossing Guard Posts; (5) Process Data; and (6) Organize Special Events. In these six activities, the
Mayor has prioritized the traffic enforcement activity as an important cost for the City to control.
The traffic enforcement activity includes vehicle related costs (i.e. Repairs Vehicles and Motor Gas
and Oil). Considering that using City vehicles throughout the municipality is likely needed for the
remaining five activities within the Traffic Unit program, it is difficult to decide on the proportion
of vehicle related expenditures that should be assigned to the traffic enforcement activity pool.

Migration: Communist Cleanse
World War II: Yet another instance of mass relocation and genocide of an ethnic group. But what
about after the Holocaust? In December 1944, Prime Minister Winston Churchill stood on the
world s stage and announced the largest forced population transfer in human history the ethnic
cleansing of post war Germany (Douglas). Up until the 1970 s or so, resources written in English
on this particular involuntary migration were nonexistent; even in Europe, the subject is considered
taboo.
British, American, and Russian governments officialized the controversial decision to expel
between 12 15 million Germans from both their homeland and surrounding countries at the Potsdam
Conference in 1945. The allied nations of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most began championing right wing politics, which value tradition... survival of the fittest, and...
economic freedom (Nicklin). Others began working peacefully towards the reconstruction of post
war Germany and recognizing those displaced all around Europe (specifically Poland). At about
the same time the Cold War was getting cold, an increasing number of German expellees began to
speak up about their forgotten holocaust. Many created organizations that demanded compensation
for their suffering, especially in West Germany. Still, the Allies kept the discussions to a mum;
some (such as Czechoslovakia) continued to justify the cleansing as a fit punishment for Nazi
crimes and refused to acknowledge the atrocity as anything more. After the fall of the U.S.S.R.
and the reconciliation of East and West Germany, the subject became a slightly more open topic.
After the Nuremberg Trials in 1945 concluded that forced immigration was a crime against
humanity, the issue could no longer be ignored... or so it seemed. Today ethnic cleansing is
considered a crime against international law, although some consider the forced expulsion of
Germans after WWII to have been a legal procedure at the time (seeing as such crimes were not
addressed by the UN Declaration of Human Rights nor the European Convention on Human Rights
in 1950). The expulsion continues to make appearances in modern politics, especially in Europe;
for instance, a declaration in 1997 by the Czech Republic has effectively closed the topic and
attempted to restrict legal claims made by German descendants ( Germans Expelled ). Still, these
immigrants, along with their children, continue to try and demand the property confiscated from
them during the

Analysis Of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
Although depression may seem like an endless burden to bear, those suffering from the mental
illness need to hold on to realize that they are not alone, and that depression does end. Through
the use of a range of film techniques employed throughout the final scene of the film, Stephen
Chbosky successfully weaves this idea into the closing sequence of The Perks of Being a
Wallflower. The comedy drama coming of age film reflects on the trials and tribulations of
adolescent life, as we join protagonist Charlie on his journey of development. As Charle is
introduced as a socially awkward wallflower suffering severely from depression, the film
techniques used during the ending scene show how Charlie has found his place in the world with

Dubbed by Sam as the Tunnel Song she loves to listen to while she cruises through the night, the
song Heroes by David Bowie further supports Chbosky s success in establishing a sense of hope
for the viewer. Charlie s non diegetic commentary stating this one moment when you know you
re not a sad story. You are alive. followed by the song s lyrics we can be heroes, just for one day,
support each other in emphasizing the idea of having those moments where you feel like
nothing else matters, and you can feel like you re a hero, just like how Charlie and his friends
are feeling on top of the world. The lyrics of the diegetic song which state though nothing, will
keep us together/we can steal time, just for one day, reflect on Charlie and Sam s relationship.
They realize that they will not be able to maintain a relationship since Sam lives away from
Charlie to go to college, but despite this, they have learned to enjoy the little time they have
together and make the most of it. Chbosky s use of diegetic music once again perfectly serve its
purpose of creating a sense of hope for the viewer, and illustrating the newfound lessons that the
viewer has learned with Charlie alongside his quest for maturity. He teaches the viewer that
depression will not always be continual darkness there will be moments where you

Infinite Truth
Infinite Truth
Since the dawn of philosophical thought there has been a desire to find truth. Now exactly what
truth is depends upon whom you ask. Philosophers have been searching for truth in various forms
for at least as far back as Aristotle in the first century B.C. all the way up to Carl Hempel in the
20th century A.D. To Aristotle and Plato truthwas reality; To Descartes truth was found in God; To
Hempel truth was found in explanation. None of these are accurate and yet all of them point
toward the same truth. Reality, as defined by Plato and Aristotle, God, as proved be Descartes and
ideal explanation as modeled by Hempel, all allude to the same thing. They point out that mankind
is a finite being and that truth is only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes states in the beginning of his proof that all things clear and distinct are true. That is
no more accurate than saying that all ideas that are ambiguous to someone are unconditionally
untrue. He also states, the existence of God depends on the clarity and distinctness with which
we perceive the idea of God. Therefore, if to me, it was not clear and distinct then it would not
necessarily be true. But the clarity and distinctness of our thoughts depends on the existence of
God. This seems to be a very circular argument and is dependent on the existence of God to
prove the existence of God. Again human perception falls short of truth. Do people understand
truth more in more modern settings? Over the course of the 20th century Carl Hempel came up
with two models of human explanation that he organized as ideals. Bas Van Fraassen puts forth
a few problems with the models. The problems he states are; asymmetry, relevance, low
probability, and legality. These are not the problems with the models. The real problems come
from, as Hempel puts it, the universal laws invokedВ… can have only been established on the
basis of a finite body of evidence, which surely affords no exhaustive verification . (Balashov, pg.
51) He also says that because of this all the laws used in the deductive nomological method of
explanation are all only probabilistic. This means that the only method that Hempel actually
explains is his probabilistic method. Since all

Dangerous Liaisons By Claudia Moscovici
Nakia was in a relationship with a psychopath. A person with a psychopathic personality lacks
the ability to love or establish meaningful relationships. A psychopath is a predator who pretends
to love you in order to lure you into his deadly game of power, control, and manipulation. The
man who Nakia thought was her knight in shining armor turned out to be a nightmare.
Throughout their relationship, he emotionally abused her, held a gun to her head, criticized her

pregnancy. A psychopath seeks to destroy your self worth and self esteem through cruel and

they seduce women. She reveals the process of psychopathic seduction: Idealize, Devalue, and

My Love For Art
Ever since I was a child I have always had a creative mind. My weekends as a little girl revolved
around trips to the craft store, crazy projects in the kitchen and dance routines. During the summer
months, I would make the most elaborate journals, with each journal entry paired with their unique
picture, many of which that were either pop up or holographic (sparkly nail polish was a must).
Within my high schoolcareer, I took the rigorous, I.B. higher level
Visual Arts. This course stretched my creative mind. Piece by piece and year by year my artistic
style warped and developed into my own. Towards senior year, my painting had a signature
style, recognizable even without my name signed in the lower corners. I participating in local
art competitions and was inspired by students my age and their love for art too. When
considering what I wanted to pursue career wise in life I knew I would be restricting myself if I
did not follow my heart and go a creative route. Fashion merchandising was a perfect blend of
business and creativity. It is an industry that never stops and is limitless in opportunities. As a
Texas resident, I eagerly applied to schools only out of state. I wanted to jump into college and
surround myself with diverse people in a foreign area. The University of South Carolina caught my
eye because of its nationally recognized program in Fashion Merchandising. I toured the university
and fell in love with the school s history, traditions and support from its staff.

Tackling Chapter Summary
In a society that claims to strive for gender equality, would it be possible to apply measures in
order to put to an end the mutual exclusion created by both genders from a young age? In her book
Tackling Gender Inequality Raising Pupil Achievement, Christine Forde analyzes and critiques the
policy and strategies implemented to tackle genderinequality. Forde s work is still relevant to
today s society as it deals with issues such as the underachievement of boys making it a perfect
text to study in order to further understand the underlying causes and problems left to resolve. In
this book review, we will be objectively and critically looking at the main arguments within the text,
the positive and negative aspects of Forde s critique as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows the reader the difficulty of the topic from the very start. This suggests that the
educational system will always be more favorable to a certain group within our society because of
societal expectations. It is also clear that because of the engrained stereotypes such as girls are all
hardworking (Forde, p.5) and boys are inevitably troublesome (Forde, p.5) complicates the task of
creating a gender equal curriculum and environment. This is why it is important to realize that
gender in education cannot only be evaluated as an individual variable, other factors (such as
disability, poverty, religion...) come into play and can affect one s education and identity. The first
part of the book gives us background knowledge on this issue.
Chapter two deals with distinct policies and strategies put in place since the 1970s in order to
identify common trends to tackle gender inequalities. Most of the policies mentioned in the text
explain that gender was a part of a more general inclusion policy and not dealt with explicitly
(Forde, p.15) but all do nevertheless try to create a positive ethos . In this chapter, it is shown that
although policies did not have a focus on gender, when children participated in gender played role
(Forde, p.17) stereotypical views would arise. Girls thought that boys got more attention and both
boys and girls agreed that girls were better learners (Forde, p.17) this emphasizes and

1910 Revolution Essay
The 1910 Revolution in Mexico was the first of Latin America s great 20th century revolutions. The
revolution prompted a political system that gave way to an unmatched stability in Mexico for more
than half a century. The political, social, and cultural effects of the revolution triggered the
formation of the PRI, the agrarian reform, a new relationship with the United States, and in turn the
consolidation of national identity through cultural policies. In looking at these effects of the 1910
Revolution, we can determine why developments in Mexicotoday are so important to the United
States and characterize current bilateral relations, given such a deep rooted complex U.S. Mexico
relationship.

The party represented the new power structure that had emerged as a result of the Mexican
Revolution, an alliance between political military leaders and labor and peasant leaders. This
governing coalition sought more stability in government. One specific issue was in the
consolidation of Mexico s post revolutionary political regime. The current president, who under the
Mexican constitution could serve only one term, selected his own successor through an informal
process known as the dedazo (big finger) (Skidmore, Smith, Green, p. 62). Because of this, a
president was either choosing the future of Mexico or could act behind the scenes of another. The
issues that the PRI focused on depended on the president at hand. President Miguel AlemГЎn, the
first civilian president since before the revolution, was focused on Mexico s infrastructure. As a
result of his construction, tourism from the United States was heightened in Mexico. The
following president, Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, opted for a hard money strategy, in which he set a
stricter exchange rate from pesos to dollars and made Mexico less expensive for

Pupil Rights Amendment
In our new world of technology, substance abuse, mental health, and sexual practices are being
discussed in the news, television, radio, social media and even in school. Parents cannot control
what their children are learning outside their home as well as what is being taught in school.
Hence, the law provides the rights of parents and student that governs sensitive topics that are being
conducted in school. The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) (20 U S C $ 1232h; 34

Essay on Narrative Style of Little House on The Prairie
Narrative Style of Little House on The Prairie
When you first start reading Little House on the Prairie you notice it is told through the eyes of a
little girl named Laura. Her point of view is very realistic and captivating. She pays very close
attention to the details of the day to day living and the events that are happening around her. She
also notices how the prairie looks and what the weather is like each day. With her descriptions you
can picture everything in your mind clearly, and you feel like you are right there next to Laura
living her life.

Pet and Patty were rolling, Pa pulled all the grass from a large, round space of ground. When the
space was clear of grass, Pa laid a handful of dry grass in its center. From the creek bottoms he
brought an armful of twigs and dead wood. He laid small twigs and larger twigs and then the
wood on the handful of dry grass, and he lighted the grass. Then Pa brought water from the creek,
while Mary and Laura helped Ma get supper (28, 29).
Another part of the story that Laura describes very deeply was when Pa built the log cabin,
chimney, and the well digging. You knew every step and how he did it and what he used to make
everything. If a person wanted to, they could probably build a log cabin or dig a well by her
descriptions.
Laura enjoys describing the way the prairie looks each day because she loves it so much. She
pays close attention to the details of the flowers and grasses and how the wind is blowing. The
animals on the prairie are described often also since the prairie was full of wildlife back then. You
often found her describing the weather too. She found the weather on the prairie very interesting
and quite different than the weather in Wisconsin. Day after day was hotter then the day before.
The wind was hot. The grass was turning yellow. The whole world was rippling green and gold
under the blazing sky. At noon the wind died. No birds

Many capitalists worked to shape post Civil War America through building new businesses to
employ many people and create new jobs as well as change America through creating new
inventions such as a faster and cheaper way of producing steel and discovering the uses and
increasing demand for oil. All of these inventions would change America, with the faster and more

Another time we see these Robber Barons using their money all for themselves is in document F
titled,
Vanderbilt Summer Cottage showing a massive mansion in Newport Rhode Island. This
mansion is enormous and is only used as as a house for a quarter of the year. Vanderbilt spent
enormous amounts of money on this mansion that he would barit ely even use instead of using it
to raise the pay of his workers or just share with the less fortunate. With all the money he spend on
his own pleasure he could have impacted hundreds of lives of those who work for him who
struggle every day to allow for him to achieve his fortune. This image of a summer cottage shows
how Vanderbilt and the Capitalists of this time were not Captains of industry but infact Robber
Barons. In document H Clement Studebaker gives a testimony to the Chicago Conference on Trusts
stating, No true monopoly is possible in this country except that enjoyed by a virtue of a patent
granted by the United States . This quote suggests that these Robber Barons have partially achieved
their fortune through luck as nobody had gotten to the patent before them allowing for them to
create a monopoly. The Capitalists if the time should have recognized their luck and allowed for
other businesses to start up as theirs had and have a fighting chance instead of destroying the
opposition in the fight towards a
monopoly.

Introduction:
Class, interpret what the historical event is in the song.
(Class Answers)
This song was released in 1974 as part of the album Winter America. Gil Scott Heron, the writer, is
from Chicago, Illinois and Brian Jackson, the one who features on the song, is from Brooklyn New
York.
The title of the song, Watergate Blues, can help you infer that the song will discuss the Watergate
Scandal. Watergate is the notorious scandal caused by the United States 37th president, Richard
Milhous Nixon. The Watergate scandal occurred in the morning of June 17, 1972, when several
burglars were arrested in the office of the Democratic National Committee, located in the Watergate
complex of buildings in Washington, D.C.
The highlighted lyrics on page 1, lines 12 13 which read Lemme see if I can dial this number....
Click! Whirr ... Click! have to do with the burglars in the watergate break in. The criminals in the
attempted robbery were affiliated with a group known as Committee for Re election of the
President, that president being Mr. Richard Nixon. They had been caught wiretapping phones and
stealing documents. For those of you who do not know, wiretapping is the monitoring of telephone
conversations by a third party who tapped the phone in the first place. The lyric can be seen as a

The Social Influence Of Hip Hop Music
In the last three decades, Hip Hop music has evolved into one of the largest youth influencers.
Uplifting the youth, Hip Hop provides a voice to a group of people trying to deliver a message.
Whether it is politcally, culturally, racially, or socially, the music speaks for people with a
variety of beliefs and passions. Hip Hop and Rap music espands people s horizons, and promotes
the idea of equality between interacial communities. The Hip Hop music movements emergence
can be traced back to the 1970 s in South Bronx, New York. DJ Kool Herc, a Jamaican born DJ,
kickstarted the movement and laid the groundwork for everything associated with Hip Hop music
today. Herc created toasting, which can be described as speaking over a rhythmic... Show more

As the genre of Hip Hop and Rap spread around the world, it became a social and cultural
platform for artists. Most people assume that it has the biggest influence on the black community
in America, but the music has spread far beyond that specific audience. Critics describe Hip Hop
music as homophobic, racist, vulgar, and violent. Tricia Rose contradicts this statement perfectly:
Rappers lyrics really do offer gripping tales of loss, sorrow, exploitation, rage, confinement,
hopelessness, and despair about conditions that are denied in the larger society ( The Role Of Hip
Hop ). It is imporant to see past the innapropriate langauge and listen to the actual message of the
song, because in most scenarios the message outweighs the vulgar words.
As soon as this music genre became popular among teens and young adults, a plethora of songs
came out with important social messages. In the society we live in today, suicide is a prominent
issue. Very recently, three very popular artists teamed up to use their following to promote the
message of suicide prevention. Logic, Alessia Cara, and DJ Khalid produced a song called 1 800
273 8255, the title being a suicide prevention hotline number. To prevent contraversy on the new
release Logic released a statement: In [this song] we hear a person at the end of their rope. We
then hear words from the perspective of the Lifeline counselor who in turn gives

that Glass has to address and determine specific training and development needs to help both
Alex and the organization. The trickle effect of the negative impact Sander has on is team as
much as there is a personal interest to retain Sander, is the possibility of seeing other employee
turnover. This case study gives us the impression that Alex is not open to the feedback that will
be provided in the 360В° performance review. Sander is aware of anger and temper issues but
actually views it as strengths and a great management tool. We understand that Sander intends to
disregard this feedback but we must also understand is that this review process is new to the
organization. We have a twofold issue here as the case study articulates to us through Sam Glass,
that many people in the organization feel the same way about the 360В° performance review.
Perhaps this is the first issue that needs to be addressed and the managers need to first see the
value in this review process and have a better understanding of its mechanics before they roll it
out. By reinforcing the idea to an already inflexible high achiever that they are not alone is the
disapproval of this process does not set the appropriate foundation for this organization to fully
benefit from what the 360В° performance review

Introducing quantum capacities to self programming artificial intelligence is like putting Einstein
in front of a sky sized blackboard. Give such a mind a piece of chalk and the innovations stretch
beyond any conceivable border. Better yet, the more capacity an artificially intelligent persona has
to increase its own intelligence, the greater capacity it has to understand these massive

With the official inception of Microsoft HoloLen s availability, we have a glimpse at a future where
massive schematics and smart computers can lead us into smart simulations. Consider AI with the
capacity to use HoloLens on their own. Suppose that quantum mechanics can increase the data
capacity of holographic apps like HoloLens allowing for the size of the holography to expand.
Consider then the possibility that these machines can take us into a programmed reality the size of
a small building. This virtual theater projected into the physical space would allow for us to
program our applications with some tangibility. We would be able to engineer our computer
systems with as much physical confidence as construction teams. When something malfunctioned,
we would see it because that part of the visible system would

  • 2. U.S. Economy in 1800s The scale of textile factories changed during this period. The small mills with a few dozen spindles and looms that characterized the initial period of the industry gave way to larger complexes. This pattern began with the Boston Associates complex at Waltham, Massachusetts. Waltham itself soon appeared small as the Boston Associates developed Lowell on the Merrimac River. The population of Lowell increased from 2,500 in 1826 to 35,000 in 1850. The Lowell Machine Shop became a center for innovation not only in textile machinery but waterpower technology as well. It also trained a generation of industrial engineers that spread throughout the economy. Lowell attracted further international attention because of its labor system that employed... In 1775, Daniel Boone blazed the Cumberland Trail, and in 1783 the Treaty of Paris gave the newly formed United States all lands west to the Mississippi River. With the end of the war, American interest in the West reached a new level of intensity. This second great migration had significant impact on American society. it is clear that this westward movement was a major factor in the nation s subsequent development. And that was certainly the case where American Christianity was concerned. In the wake of the Revolution, churches faced three major tasks: (1) organization (2) reviving vital religion and (3) following the population westward. The future of the Church was contingent on dealing with all three problems. Churches soon recognized that in such a large area, the old parish system which assumed a town would not work. Concerns that the West would lapse into barbarism or worse that the Catholic missionaries would reach these people first, created a crisis atmosphere in some quarters. French Catholics had long been active in the Northwest and along the Mississippi. People on the frontier were attracted to those who preached a more emotional faith, and dismissed of the more sophisticated rational faith of the Eastern seaboard. Churches that proved flexible in seeking these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How to Incorporate the Fraud Triangle Theory The term of fraud triangle was developed by Dr. Donald Cressey, a criminologist who studied embezzlers. The three basic elements of fraud triangle include perceived pressure, perceived opportunity, and the ability to rationalize. It explains the nature of many fraud offenders and also become a tool to assess the risk of fraud. It is important to companies to incorporate the fraud triangle theory in order to reduce the risk of fraud within their organization. From my standpoint, companies should incorporate the fraud triangle from the following aspects. First, companies should perform background investigation in order to uncover the perceived pressure. The factors that create pressure include personal financial pressure (high levels of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While some employees feel they are underpaid and deserve more money. A strong ethical culture and could be helpful in preventing rationalization, since the employees may not regards fraud is morally acceptable in good corporate culture. Attractive employee benefit also helps company reduce the risk. Once everyone is treated as a family member and satisfied with what they get from the company, they will not commit fraud definitely. Although it is impossible to satisfy every employee, attractive benefit should reduce the risk a lot. In conclusion, I believe the fraud triangle is significant to a corporation. It is necessary to companies to prevent fraud by incorporating the fraud triangle theory. After all, companies cannot only rely on the external auditors or the fraud examiners. They have the responsibility to reduce the risk of fraud by themselves. Probably, they can avoid some further costs as well. References Bliss, G. (2012, Jul 06). • 4. The Stanford Prison Experiment The Stanford prison experiment was conducted at Stanford University on August 14th through August 20th in 1971, by a team of researchers headed by psychology professor Philip Zimbardo. This experiment used college students and was funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research. The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps were both very interested in this particular experiment due to the many violent outbreaks and conflicts between military guards and prisoners. In 2010 Hollywood produced a movie on the events of the Stanford prison experiment. The movie was all about a study on how people would behave in a simulated setting of a prison. It starts off with an advertisement in the newspaper looking for subjects to be a part of an experiment, where participants assume the identities of inmates and prison guards in an empty jail, the subjects are promised a payment of $1,000 a day for two weeks. After several interviews were conducted measuring the test subject s responses to a number of different violent scenes, twenty six subjects are finally chosen and are split into two categories: six of them as guards and twenty of them as prisoners. All of these men are considered to be the most psychologically stable and healthy of all of the applicants. The groups were deliberately selected to exclude those with criminal backgrounds, psychological impairments, or medical problems. They then are driven to an isolated building set up as a prison. • 6. Analysis of Intel Intel Analysis 1. How would you explain Intel s initial dominance and subsequent decline in DRAMs? Intel excels at top down innovation, where highly differentiated components and electronics command a high gross margin relative to competitors, enabling faster design wins with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and development partners. This top down innovation flow within Intel is so dominant, that the product design teams are significantly more productive than even the most advanced business process management teams (Segerstrom, 2007). Microprocessors and the follow on Internet, networking, security and integrated motherboard products are all predicated on this top down innovation cycle that leads to product line proliferation in Intel (Zimmerman, 2010). DRAMS were undifferentiated in structure, lacked industry standards that could create differentiated performance or compatibility based on adherence or alignment to standards or customer requirements (Nicholson, 1997). Intel chose to compete on the only other area of their core strength as a company, which is quality management and yield levels (Clark, Walz, Turner, Miszuk, 1993). Getting the yields for DRAMS to 60%, which for a brief period of time lead the global industry, only served to accelerate a very high level of commoditization in the industry (Voss, 1998). True to nearly any commoditized product, pricing and availability became the only two significant differentiators quickly as Intel increased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Federal Funds On The State Of The Economy Essay Mario Lamberto ECON 201 10/12/2016 Federal Funds Rate The Federal Funds Rate plays a huge role on the state of the economy in the United States. For something that has such impact on the whole economy in the United States, it is very little known and understood. The Federal Funds Rate may be the most important rate in the country. So what is the Federal Funds Rate? It is an interest rate that is used when banks lend to other banks or other depository institutions from funds that are maintained at the Federal Reserve (Target Rate). The transaction can only be done overnight and by trustworthy institutions. The target rate is determined by the Federal Open Market Committee (Target Rate). They will influence and determine the rate that will be used. So if it doesn t have any first hand impact on a normal consumer or business, why should anyone care about it? The answer to that is simple, the Federal Funds Rate will greatly impact the economy in several areas and it will trickle down onto the normal consumer and business. The Federal Funds Rate will change the economy if it goes up, and if it goes down. As the year runs down, everyone will be watching with a close eye to see what the Fed will do with the rate. The Federal Funds Rate will increase in December of 2016. Why will the Federal Funds Rate increase by the end of the year? One reason to believe this is that the current chair Janet Yellen is not afraid to do so, as she did it just a year ago which was the first in ten ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Sweatshops In Poor Countries They are complications in international trade. Classical views promise the benefits to both countries from trade but the complications are when you look closer at how that trade might actually hurt our country, their country, and both of our countries. For example, sweatshop labor can benefit manufacturers and customers but what about the people working in them, some of them would consider their labor exploitation by force and others consider it exploitation by choice. This is the division, their views. Another complication is wolves in sheep s clothing meaning someone or something that tries to appear appealing to you under a certain circumstance is actually the exact opposite. So, opposition to having sweatshops in poor countries come from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One in particular question is could there be an end of the business cycle? To start, during that period that stemmed for over two years of low inflation, low unemployment, and relatively steady growth in the rich world really made it seem like it was possibly the end of the business cycle. But then when the Financial Crisis of 2008 occurred and the Great Depression seemed to appear as dГ©jГ vu. A bad monetary policy by the Federal Reserve was a big reason for the Great Depression. Banks and other financial systems help circulate money and credit throughout an economy, so it would be no surprise that a failure in the financial system can ruin an entire economy. And the problem with the financial system is that it s stuck between market failure and government failure, all of these things point to a possible end to the business cycle. However, we re still a long way from the end of the business cycle even though monetary and fiscal policies have improved greatly since the Great Depression. Another question posed was, could there be an end to poverty? To start, to be realistic poverty isn t going to end in the 21st century. In low and middle income countries, poverty is so prevalent that even the idea of an end to poverty seems intangible in any near future. However economists have presented a new concept called catch up which states that per capita GDP in poorer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Poetry, By Billy Collins, The Writer Poetry comes in many forms, rhythms, tones, and meanings whether metaphoric or realistic. One thing, however, which is a common trait of poetry, is that they all carry a message to the reader. In some poems the message appears very clear and understandable, while in others, the author may hide the message within metaphors and imagery. In the poem Introduction to Poetry by Billy Collins, the writer enlightens his reader with an important message that poetry is something to experience. Everywhere from popular media to politics, it is an often debated topic that if not taken seriously, it could mean the end of nature, no, of life itself. Human beings although not always considered directly a part of nature, in reality, are an integral composition of natureitself. However, mankind throughout the centuries has wounded and destroyed nature. If viewed from a broader spectrum, they have been destroying themselves. War, advancements in civilization, industrialization, and many more human developments have brought nature life itself to the brink of annihilation. However, measures should be established to preserve and protect nature from monetary greed; the unjustified elimination of Earths landscapes for profit driven means. There should always be limits to deter the further destruction of our lands. From the beginning, horror movies have been a strong point in our culture and have adapted with it. In the beginning, there was no such thing as the horror genre. Horror movies were then called spook tales till the horror genre came around in the 1930 s. The first horror movie, or spook tail, was a French silent film produced in 1896 called Le Manoir Du Diable or The House of the Devil. It was created by Georges MГ©liГЁs, one of films most influential people at the time. During the first world war, Germany had isolated them from the rest of the world. This caused Germany to focus on film advance with movies like The Golem , which is considered as the first monster movie. The diversity of the language used by a particular group is a factor of the occurrence of bilingualism. According to Grosjean (1984, p. 1) bilingualism is the use of two or more languages. The proficiency of bilingualism may vary depending on the exposure to the other users of language and opportunities to use the language. It is one of the factors of replacement of the language. This phenomenon known as code switching, it can occur as a whole, the incorporating elements of other languages in the language being used, or the turn of a variation of a language. Based on Poplack (1980) theory code switching is the alternation of two languages within a single discourse, sentence or constituent. Hamunaptra is known for the ancient burial site for the sons of pharaohs and also the resting place for the wealth of Egypt. There is were women in the movie. One of them were Anck Su Namun which was the Pharaoh s mistress. The role she played was to be high priest Imhotep s lover. She sacrificed her life in order to let Imhotep escape after killing the Pharaoh, Seti. Imhotep and his priests attempts to resurrect Anck Su Namun, but just as the ritual was about to be complete, Pharoah s soldiers stopped him and mummified his priests alive. Imhotep suffered the worst possible case because he was the one leading the assassination of the pharaoh. He was condemned to face Hom Dai, which was one of the worse ancient curses. After being mummified, he was forever sealed inside his sarcophagus. If he were to be released from his sarcophagus, he would reborn as a walking disease that would spread and plague everything in his way. Several centuries later, in 1923, the archeologists start their first finding. One of the archeologist was Jonathan Carnahan. He is dressed in a formal outfit, somewhat like a full suit. Our ABC analysis allocates approximately $19,049 in ordinary maintenance expenditures to Traffic Enforcement (significantly more than the $500 estimated by Lieutenant Allen from the line item budget). The City appropriately uses a cost driver related to vehicle usage given its direct relationship to the designated expenditures (vehicle repairs/gas and oil expenses) incurred by the Traffic Unit. By applying a cost driver, the City of Somerville will objectively allocate expenditures across the Traffic activity units that directly benefit from the cost incurred. The City ABC team, in consultation with a top City manager, inventoried six activity centers within the Traffic Unit: (1) Investigate Accidents; (2) Manage Tow Companies; (3) Traffic Enforcement (including ticket issuance and court prosecution of tickets); (4) Staff/Supervise Crossing Guard Posts; (5) Process Data; and (6) Organize Special Events. In these six activities, the Mayor has prioritized the traffic enforcement activity as an important cost for the City to control. The traffic enforcement activity includes vehicle related costs (i.e. Repairs Vehicles and Motor Gas and Oil). In December 1944, Prime Minister Winston Churchill stood on the world s stage and announced the largest forced population transfer in human history the ethnic cleansing of post war Germany (Douglas). Up until the 1970 s or so, resources written in English on this particular involuntary migration were nonexistent; even in Europe, the subject is considered taboo. At about the same time the Cold War was getting cold, an increasing number of German expellees began to speak up about their forgotten holocaust. Many created organizations that demanded compensation for their suffering, especially in West Germany. Still, the Allies kept the discussions to a mum; some (such as Czechoslovakia) continued to justify the cleansing as a fit punishment for Nazi crimes and refused to acknowledge the atrocity as anything more. After the fall of the U.S.S.R. and the reconciliation of East and West Germany, the subject became a slightly more open topic. After the Nuremberg Trials in 1945 concluded that forced immigration was a crime against humanity, the issue could no longer be ignored... or so it seemed. Today ethnic cleansing is considered a crime against international law, although some consider the forced expulsion of Germans after WWII to have been a legal procedure at the time (seeing as such crimes were not addressed by the UN Declaration of Human Rights nor the European Convention on Human Rights in 1950). The expulsion continues to make appearances in modern politics, especially in Europe; for instance, a declaration in 1997 by the Czech Republic has effectively closed the topic and attempted to restrict legal claims made by German descendants ( Germans Expelled ). Philosophers have been searching for truth in various forms for at least as far back as Aristotle in the first century B.C. all the way up to Carl Hempel in the 20th century A.D. To Aristotle and Plato truthwas reality; To Descartes truth was found in God; To Hempel truth was found in explanation. None of these are accurate and yet all of them point toward the same truth. Descartes states in the beginning of his proof that all things clear and distinct are true. That is no more accurate than saying that all ideas that are ambiguous to someone are unconditionally untrue. He also states, the existence of God depends on the clarity and distinctness with which we perceive the idea of God. Therefore, if to me, it was not clear and distinct then it would not necessarily be true. But the clarity and distinctness of our thoughts depends on the existence of God. This seems to be a very circular argument and is dependent on the existence of God to prove the existence of God. Again human perception falls short of truth. Do people understand truth more in more modern settings? Over the course of the 20th century Carl Hempel came up with two models of human explanation that he organized as ideals. Bas Van Fraassen puts forth a few problems with the models. The problems he states are; asymmetry, relevance, low probability, and legality. These are not the problems with the models. The real problems come from, as Hempel puts it, the universal laws invokedВ… can have only been established on the basis of a finite body of evidence, which surely affords no exhaustive verification . This is why it is important to realize that gender in education cannot only be evaluated as an individual variable, other factors (such as disability, poverty, religion...) come into play and can affect one s education and identity. Logic, Alessia Cara, and DJ Khalid produced a song called 1 800 273 8255, the title being a suicide prevention hotline number. To prevent contraversy on the new release Logic released a statement: In [this song] we hear a person at the end of their rope. • 49. Alex Sander Case Study An organization s long term success in meeting its strategic objectives rests with its ability to manage employee performance and ensure that performance measures are consistent with the organizational needs (Mello, 2015, p. 438). In the case study of Alex Sander, this is exactly what the manager s need to think about in regards to developing Sander. Sam Glass, Product Group Supervisor for Landon care products has his work cut out for him in regards to his very aggressive ego driven yet valuable employee in the organization. While trying to implement a new 360В° performance feedback method for the first time, how can Sam channel Alex s talent and ensure success both for Alex as an individual and for the organization? A main purpose of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can clearly see from this case study that Alex has some deficiencies in performance levels that Glass has to address and determine specific training and development needs to help both Alex and the organization. The trickle effect of the negative impact Sander has on is team as much as there is a personal interest to retain Sander, is the possibility of seeing other employee turnover. This case study gives us the impression that Alex is not open to the feedback that will be provided in the 360В° performance review. Sander is aware of anger and temper issues but actually views it as strengths and a great management tool. We understand that Sander intends to disregard this feedback but we must also understand is that this review process is new to the organization. We have a twofold issue here as the case study articulates to us through Sam Glass, that many people in the organization feel the same way about the 360В° performance review. Perhaps this is the first issue that needs to be addressed and the managers need to first see the value in this review process and have a better understanding of its mechanics before they roll it out. By reinforcing the idea to an already inflexible high achiever that they are not alone is the disapproval of this process does not set the appropriate foundation for this organization to fully benefit from what the 360В° performance review ... The author describes the album as Marvin Gaye s masterpiece, it s the most important and passionate record to come out of soul music, delivered by one of its finest voices, a man finally free to speak his mind and so move from R B sex symbol to true recording artist (Allmusic.com, 2016). Microsoft has unveiled a programming language for their quantum revolution. To keep up with the times, you may want to prepare yourself. With Visual Studio as the Microsoft brand of Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for this language, you are already equipped to explore workshop platforms. IBM has also released the IBM Q system for this purpose. At the end of September, Firefox announced the launch of Firefox Quantum. This project will take Project Quantum to the next level. It will utilize Firefox s Servo research project results to prepare the popular internet browser for the next phase of modern computers. Yet these IDEs may only be the... Massive numbers meet Einstein machines Introducing quantum capacities to self programming artificial intelligence is like putting Einstein in front of a sky sized blackboard. Give such a mind a piece of chalk and the innovations stretch beyond any conceivable border. Better yet, the more capacity an artificially intelligent persona has to increase its own intelligence, the greater capacity it has to understand these massive computations. Holography and IDEs With the official inception of Microsoft HoloLen s availability, we have a glimpse at a future where massive schematics and smart computers can lead us into smart simulations. Consider AI with the capacity to use HoloLens on their own. Suppose that quantum mechanics can increase the data capacity of holographic apps like HoloLens allowing for the size of the holography to expand. Consider then the possibility that these machines can take us into a programmed reality the size of a small building. This virtual theater projected into the physical space would allow for us to program our applications with some tangibility. We would be able to engineer our computer systems with as much physical confidence as construction teams. When something malfunctioned, we would see it because that part of the visible system would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
