In chapter six Monkey Love Harry Harlow, an American psychologist, wanted to prove that babies
prefer a gentle mother over a feeding mother. Harlow chose macaques for his experiment because
they are the closest specie compared with humans. The experiment that Harlow conducted
consisted of the infant monkeys being taken away from their birth mother, being placed in cages
with a wired clothed mother and a wired feeding mother. The monkeys preferred the clothed

Solution Description The relationship between communication and errors has been well
established in the healthcare setting, affecting patient safety and placing the organization in a
position of risk (Friesen, Hughes and Zorn, 2007; Wasserman, 2014, Sears et al, 2013). Errors
still occur, however, and there is a focus on how healthcare can learn from the behaviors of high
reliability industries (Verschoor et al, 2007). One such behavior is that of a Safety Briefing
(DSB), through which an organization empowers every employee to be able to report issues
that have an effect, or potential effect on safety processes (Kelly, 2013; Rice, 2013; Steelman,
2014). The members of the DSB then have the responsibility for identification of poor processes,
system failures and remediation of issues. Safety issues arise in this organization on a daily basis
and are reported through an interdisciplinary online tool. Each occurrence report is written by a
staff member and routed to the department supervisor. This supervisor forwards the report to any
other relevant departments for their review. So, for example, if a patient is admitted to the
intensive care unit (ICU) from the operating room (OR) with a pressure ulcer, the event is written
up by the ICU staff and routed to the ICU supervisor, who then forwards to the ICU manager, the
