Should There Be Specific Anti Gay Bully Polices in Schools
First let s be clear about definitions concerning this essay.
Bully: One who is habitually cruel to smaller or weaker people (The American Heritage Dictionary
2007). An aggressive person who intimidates or mistreats weaker people, (Encarta dictionary, 2012).
Bullying: The process of intimidating or mistreating somebody weaker or in a more vulnerable
situation (Encarta dictionary, 2012).
Bullying for this paper: Any act of harassment, intimidation, whether physical, verbal or
telecommunicated (cyber/text) that makes a person feel demeaned, belittled, fearful, or endangered.

The time has come when the common old time thug making a place for themselves has ended and now
the devastating effects of the new bully come to life. New bullies don t just stop with words and
maybe a playground fight, now we have severe physical trauma and even death as a result of the
negative responses to this type of treatment. Amazingly enough the amount of physical bullying has
increased as with the increase of school bullying:
The common thought has been bullying is a normal reaction to school. Studies show that bullying is
the result of underlying issues. Traditional bullying was a common thug trying to make a place for
themselves, whereas now it has gone to new heights, it now includes physical trauma and even death.
We find that bullying affects the bully as well as the victim. The victims tend to have more problems
in school with attendance and achievements within the academic world. This is not just about the gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, it involves all students that don t fit societies idea of
normal then the person gets bullied. The amount of attention given to this issue is a direct result of this
escalation in events within the school system from grade schools to universities. The most pressing
problem with getting the bullying policies changed is the conservative communities that school boards
serve and convincing them that these policies need to be

Xuanzang Dharma Master Sparknotes
Xuanzang was a Chinese Buddhist monk who performed a historic pilgrimage to India in search of
sutras , dharma and the sacred traces of the Buddha . He undertook this journey at a most tumultuous
time; when the Tang dynasty was at war with the Turks. Due to the restrictions on border crossing, his
expedition to India in 629 A.D was very difficult. Xuanzang, however, did not experience a break in
his resolve and successfully completed his journey.
Several decades after Xuanzang returned from India, his disciples Huili and Yanzong wrote his
biography. Based on oral accounts from their Dharma Master and their own observations of his life
and vocation in China, they constructed his experiences on paper. Since the primary source of the ...

The letter which the king of Gaochang wrote for Yabgu Khan is particularly enlightening concerning
the Chinese encounters with Central Asia. The king assumed a very modest position and exalted the
powerful Turk. It s interesting to note that he did not threaten the Turk of impending consequences
which would arise if the Dharma Master were to be hurt. Nor did he exalt the position of the Dharma
Master . He referred to himself as your humble slave , denoted Yabgu Khan as your highness Khan
and pleaded for the protection of the humble slave s brother in the same way as you protect your
humble slave . The rhetoric employed by the king suggests that he respected the Turkish ruler very
much and perhaps feared him a little too. It also sheds some light on the disposition of the Turk;
perhaps Yabgu Khan required such appeasement and it kept him from being hostile as he didn t
perceive the other as a threat. Another important thing to note here is that the twenty four letters were
attached to a bolt of heavy damask . In that particular period silk was considered very special and it
represented wealth. The Chinese also used to use silks as effective economic inducements when
conducting diplomacy with nomadic people (Silks and Religions in Eurasia, C. A.D. 600 1200). Yabgu
Khan was presented with five hundred bolts of damask as a sign of goodwill.

Comedy in Don Quixote
Q.2 Wherein lies the comedy in part one of Don Quixote?
The story Don Quixote is a burlesque, mock epic of the romances of chivalry, in which Cervantes
teaches the reader the truth by creating laughter that ridicules. Through the protagonist, he succeeds in
satirizing Spain s obsession with the noble knights as being absurdly old fashioned. The dynamics of
the comedy in this story are simple, Don Quixote believes the romances he has read and strives to live
them out, and it is his actions and the situations that he finds himself in during his adventures that
make the reader laugh. We can define comedy as something that entertains the reader and that makes
us want to laugh out loud and Cervantes succeeds in doing this through his use of ... Show more

Consequently, most of the situations that Don Quixote is placed in during his ridiculous quest are
excellent examples of slapstick comedy. The reader is highly entertained by Don Quixote on his
adventures during which he implicitly believes that he is like the knights in the novels he has read and
so; he logically believes his own fiction. The reader is embarrassed when Don Quixote decides that by
choosing a new name for himself, his horse, his lady and his friends that this will suffice in making
him a knight. Just like he shaped his own appearance, he chooses his name as Don Quixote de La
Mancha and this becomes one of the most prominent jokes of the book. It is a name that is undignified
and pretentious but simultaneously amusing because La Mancha is a dry, sparsely populated region of
Spain, which is exactly what a knight should avoid. The suffix ote was considered derogatory at that
time and it is even funny sounding. We are skeptical from the very beginning as to whether or not Don
Quixote is worthy of the title Don and our suspicions are confirmed when he fails to assist people in
distress like any good knight should. It is highly entertaining when Andrés specifically asks Don
Quixote not to complicate his life with any more of his help

Theme Of Friends I Ll Be There For You
The theme song of Friends I ll Be There For You perfectly describes the definition we hold as of what
a true friend should act like. A true friend is someone who stands by you no matter what life throws
your way.
The group of Friends are Chandler Bing, Joey Tribiani, Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Ross Geller, and
Phoebe Buffay. The show revolves around sarcastic remarks and witty comments. The six friends stick
with each other and stand by each other for everything. The show aired from 1994 to 2004 and

Hollywood Portrayal Of Native People
Hollywood has been making movies about many people throughout the begining. One of the most
popular types of these movies is old westerns with cowboys and Indigenous people. Hollywood has
not always represented an accurate portrayal of Indigenous peoples in the portrayal of all Indigenous
Peoples as Plains Peoples, savages, and constantly warring against other tribes. The Indigenous
Peoples were not all Plains Peoples. Many of the indigenous people were from the southwest United
States, with many splinter groups and many more different cultures (Text 5). With hollywood s
portrayal of the Plains people they lost all the culture of the many groups of people who were very
different. With the loss of the culture and only one culture of the Indigenous peoples represented the
reality of the representation was sorely inaccurate. The Iroquois were a group of people in the Central
New York region who had a largely different culture from the Plains People. Their society was a
matriarchal society, in which the women would own the land and head the family (Text 1). The Plains
People were not portrayed in such a fashion making an even bigger gap in the representation of each
culture. The Indigenous Peoples were often portrayed as savages within Hollywood s culture. When
Mary Rowlandson was captured and enslaved by a tribe of Indigenous People near her she saw who
they really were. They may have subjected her to slavery lack of shelter, food, and make her walk long
distances, but in her

RMC employs a standard three tier distribution system where the company sells to wholesalers who in
turn sell to retailers who sell to the public. The company finds its niche in the premium and ultra
premium segments of the table wine market (Burns et al., 2001).
In January 1999, Michael Mondavi, the CEO of the RMC and son of its founder, Robert Mondavi,
announced the reorganization of the company and the layoff of 4% of the workforce. RMC had
experienced a shortfall in supplying its Woodbridge Chardonnay brand. Unhappy distributors had
begun substituting competing Chardonnay brands on retailer s shelves. Yet, some distributors
remained reluctant to carry the brand even though Woodbridge production levels returned to normal
and further reducing company sales (Thompson Strickland 2003).
During this period, the senior management was completing the process of reconfiguring RMC s future
strategies. However, there were two different views had aroused: (i) one group argued for a return to
the original vision, complaining that RMC had been so busy focusing on launching new brands and
pursuing international ventures that it had neglected its core domestic brands, which made up 90% of
revenues, and (ii) another group claimed for continued diversification through its global partnerships
in Chile and Italy and one domestic brand. Michael Mondavi was caught between the two groups

Social Structure And Social Structures
Social structures are the most important aspects of human society. Social structure is the foundation
upon which human society is created from. Therefore, it is necessary that we understand what social
structures actually are. These structures are what organize the social relationships and institutions
within a society, making it possible for the existence of a society. As a result, the question of how and
why social structures matter are important in understanding how social structures work. Therefore,
social structures are important because they force us to take on new perspectives in the analysis of
everyday experiences, produce the social structures and institutions that control us, analyze the
manifest and latent functions they serve, observe the objectivity of social reality and finally they allow
for an intimate evaluation of ones self and social position. Consequently, social structure is relevant in
my daily life because it has forced me to change how I look at myself and my own experiences and
more importantly the power that the historical context and its social structures exert on my personal
consciousness. As a result, Mills makes the argument that we are falsely led to believe that our current
social position in society is due to our own effort and doing. This argument reflects social reality and it
is the result of the social structures that are present in society, and the interplay between societal
history and biography. According to Mills, the ability to

Writing Poetry Is An Unnatural Act, By Elizabeth Bishop
Writing poetry is an unnatural act, said Elizabeth Bishop. It takes great skill to make it seem natural.
Part of developing that skill is about paying attention and I think we d all agree, paying attention in the
age of distraction is hard.
There is a myriad of distractions every minute: the latest bombastic tweet by our deranged president;
someone posting a beautiful plate of food on Instagram; or the onslaught of Facebook posts showing
all your poet friends and acquaintances meeting up at AWP.
The life of a writer was easier, in some ways, in the age of the typewriter: you sat, nothing but a blank
page staring back at you, waiting for your fingers to move. No smartphone at the ready to buzz with
the latest text from your wife, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And for poets, this means approaching life with eyes wide open, paying attention, and taking notes.
I have no clear goal in mind for the notes I take, poet and essayist Alison Hawthorne Deming writes in
Writing the Sacred Into the Real. Other than to help myself remember the intensities of the day, the
mix of sensation and thought as it rises and falls with the swells.
For me, note taking happens sporadically. Throughout much of my writing life, I ve worked on poems
in my head for a long time before I put anything on paper. As I get older, however, I find taking notes
helps especially if I m busy with daily life work, family, getting the dry cleaning. The Notes app on
my iPhone is one repository, notebooks and the occasional scrap of paper are another.
As with Deming s, my note taking may or may not lead to a poem or an essay or much of anything.
Yet, as she imparts, taking them forces a kind of attention that makes the experience richer, and
attention is central to both artistic and spiritual practice.
Practice. That word speaks to me. Poetry as practice seems right. We are amateurs of a sort at
translating the unsayable. To do so requires attention and practice. While we must pay attention to
those moments of inspiration, often we re slogging away at draft upon draft of a poem, trying to find
where the poem really wants to go.

Abstract
Transparent conductive films of fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) electrospun on glass substrate were
prepared. These transparent conductive films were prepared at a substrate temperature in the range
350 550 οC. A solution of SnCl2.2H2O in methanol and glacial acetic acid was used as a precursor.
Hydrofluoric acid was added to the precursor solution as a dopant. The films were prepared in one
single step and no further treatment is required. The distance between the spray nozzle and the
substrate was in the range 2 10 cm, the liquid flow rate was in the range 10 50 ml/h, the duration of
electrospinning was in the range 5 50 min and 15 20 kV electrical potential was applied. The prepared
films were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, FTIR and UV VIS spectroscopy. The resistivity
measurements were measured by the four point probe technique. It was found that the films are
transparent in the UV Visible region and was about 70% and high reflective in the infra red region
(99%). XRD pattern indicates that the films exhibit a preferred orientation (110) with grain size about
16 nm. By comparing these results with that obtained by

Questions On Gross Receipts Tax
b. New Mexico
i. Gross Receipts Tax Generally
The state gross receipts tax is a tax on the privilege of engaging in business in New Mexico. Engaging
in business means carrying on or causing to be carried on any activity with the purpose of direct or
indirect benefit, with certain exceptions inapplicable to the Company s facts. The tax is assessed
against the gross proceeds of a business.
For purposes of the GRT, a presumption exists that all receipts of a person engaging in business are
subject to the GRT, unless the taxpayer can make an affirmative showing that the receipts are not
taxable. The taxpayer bears the burden of proving any exemption or deduction.
Gross receipts which are deductible are to be contrasted with gross ... Show more content on

The court stated that the [a]doption of the destination principle does not require us to construe the
gross receipts tax to include principles of transfer of title, transfer of possession, or risk of loss, which
are concepts that were not included in the language employed by our legislature. Therefore, we hold
that the destination principle applies to determine whether an interstate transaction is a taxable sale
under our gross receipts tax laws. While the court does not hold the principles of transfer of title,
transfer of possession, or risk of loss as dispositive, they are certainly important in analyzing the situs
of the sale. iii. Transactions in the Stream of Interstate Commerce
A deduction is allowed from the gross receipts tax for receipts from transactions in interstate
commerce if the imposition of the tax would be unlawful under the Constitution. Presumably, to the
extent that taxation of receipts derived from transactions in foreign commerce would violate the
Constitution, one may conclude that New Mexico could not impose its gross receipts tax.
The deduction for receipts derived from transactions in interstate commerce has been a part of the
gross receipts tax for many years. Contemporary commerce clause doctrine has held that there is no
bar to the imposition of a state s tax on income or receipts from a transaction merely because a
transaction is in interstate commerce, as long as certain requirements are met.

The Symbolic Interactionist View Of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a national and annual holiday where people express their gratitude and appreciation
towards family members, friends, significant others, their religion, their health, their education, or are
appreciative of what they have. Most of us are all aware that Thanksgiving is one of the happiest days
of the year because we all share a traditional meal with our family and often give thanks to our loved
ones. Typically, on this day interactions are what is primarily being focused on. Everyone is
communicating with one another about how grateful they are to have them in their lives and this
ultimately strengthens and provides reassurance to the relationship. The most important part about
Thanksgiving is that all families come together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As symbolic interactionists believe, the emphasis of family reinforces and restores these bonds
through symbolic occasions. The symbolic interactionist perspective strongly believes that such
holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas strengthen an individual s bond with others due to the social
interactions taking place during the family meals and holidays. From this past Thanksgiving
experience, I can thoroughly agree with the symbolic interactionists on their claim about how vital
family interactions are. Throughout the night, I observed how everyone was communicating with one
another and building better emotional bonds together. Disputes aside, everyone just enjoys the holiday
and reminisce about memories of the past holidays. I, for one, was forming closer bonds with my
cousins that have not really played a role in my life. We all happily ate and later played games
together as a family. Therefore, I cherish moments and memories like these because not only do I
become closer with my family members, although, I can look back and remember all the great and
special times we all shared together. Conclusively, interactions are extremely important to establish a
strong relationship whether it being family, friends, significant others,

Currently In Healthcare, There Are Many Large And Impactful
Currently in healthcare, there are many large and impactful demographic groups under the
microscope. These groups have the potential to shift and shape the way health and healthcare are
practiced based on the way the groups engage in their health. Health professionals are very interested
in how patients young and old, rich and poor, educated and uneducated, insured and uninsured are
interacting and engaging. By researching and observing how these traits affect an individual or group s

In Millennials Go To College by Neil Howe and William Strauss, they discuss the demographic in
detail and define seven core traits of millennials. They discuss this group as beginning to finish up
college, a group mentality focus, and extremely diverse (Strauss Howe, 2003). What this means is that
this group is generally higher educated, more focused on groups, communities, and teams rather than
themselves, and in general the group is accepting of diversity and views all people as equal. These
busy individuals are often over stimulated by the amount of work and extracurriculars that they take
on. Howe and Strauss also observed seven core traits of this demographic group which has the
potential to have an effect on the way this group views themselves and the way they are viewed by
others. These traits are that they are special, sheltered, confident, team oriented, conventional,
pressured, and achieving (Strauss Howe, 2003). Each of these characteristics affects the way that this
group engages in the world around them. These traits follow them through education, work, and
especially healthcare, with regard to current engagement and how they will engage in the future.

Pros And Cons Of Peaceful Resistance
Peaceful resistance has been around for ages and has served for a way for people to achieve goals like
social change through the practice of nonviolence. Peaceful resistance has gained much attention in
both the past and present, causing others to ponder as to whether such resistance either benefits or
harms a free society. There are compelling arguments for both sides, though the argument that
peaceful resistance positively impacts society stands to be the most persuasive. Nonviolent resistance
benefits a free society because it serves as a method for defeating oppressive regimes and societal
norms, it allows powerful leaders to emerge to unite people under one cause, and it facilitates the
establishment of lasting democracies. Peaceful resistance has proved to be a way for people to
overthrow oppressive regimes and societal norms. This can be seen by Mahatma Gandhi s strikes and

An important example of this emerged from the civil rights movements led by Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. King strongly believed in the nonviolence. He was able to unite people under one idea: civil rights

and old ideas were improved. People were able to know they were not alone in their struggle, allowing
hope to be restored. If a powerful leader such as King had not emerged, nothing would have changed;
African Americans would still be treated as second class citizens. People have to follow under a leader
like King in order to develop an efficient plan to target the problems plaguing their lives. Furthermore,
King s ideas on nonviolence appealed to a variety of age groups; violent movements require stamina

Immigrants In The 19th Century Essay
How did America become such a strong industrial country in the nineteenth century? History has
credited this emergence to the Industrial Revolution; however, history has not decided if the
industrialists or the immigrants are most essential to this growth, or if it is a collaboration of the
efforts of both of these groups. Even though immigrants helped build the workforce of the Industrial
Revolution, it is the ideals of the Industrialist business owners who transformed American to the
forefront of power in the late 19th century for those immigrants. First of all, industrialists, such as
Carnegie and Rockefeller, made the emergence of power possible. While some experts may believe
the reason why America is what it is today is because of the immigrants with a myriad of skills
worked to help this country grow, most evidence proves that the business owners and industrialists are
the reason. They are the masterminds behind the big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the workers weren t paid high dollar salaries, they still did the job that they needed to do

to do with the financial help they gave the companies and the leadership of running the business
helped the country as a whole toward growth.
It is easily seen that these two groups, the Industrialist and the Immigrants both had to work hand in
hand to make the emergence of industrial American happen. Both groups have led America through
this growth in industrialization its power today. Many Americans can trace ancestry back to

Tsarist Regime In Russian Autocracy
Although the states had a different ideology, where in Russian autocracy all the power and wealth was
controlled by the Tsar, and Marxism Leninism was based on an absolute truth for understanding social

As defined by Dominic Lieven, an empire is measured by the scale of territory, the amount of absolute
power held by the Tsar and the numerous ethnicities within the polity. By the law, religion and
tradition, the Tsar was the absolute ruler and as Nicholas I in 1832 declared The Emperor of all the

Persuasive Speech About Kilimanjaro
Scaling the Mighty Kilimanjaro for Clean Water
If today I told you that I have climbed Africa s highest mountain on my hands and wheelchair, and
actually got to the top, chances are, you would not believe me. I wouldn t blame you though. Even I
did not think I could do it. At least not with my condition, I have no legs from the pelvis down due to a
genetic ailment.
But I have! Four years ago, alongside my best mates, David and Alex, I actually climbed Mt.
Kilimanjaro to the very top. In so doing, we raised close to four hundred thousand pounds for
provision of clean water for the locals. You may wonder how this was made possible. Well, I will tell
you how.

Factors Of Favor Of The Argument Essay
Module 2 Assignment 2: Factors in Favor of and Against
Name: Kellie Runyon
Topic: Universal health care: Governmental provision of free health care for all citizens.
Part 1: Matrix
Strength of the Argument
(1 strongest,
6 weakest)
Reasons for
Reasons Against
1
Universal health care would be affordable for everyone
Millions of people would save money with universal healthcare due to everyone paying an equal
amount; whether it be through tax increase or some other form. However, it will amount to less money
than those who are paying for healthcare now due to the fact that every citizen pays for it and not only
the people who can afford the raising prices.
Tax Increases to cover the healthcare change.
2
Public health would improve with universal health care
All citizens will have unlimited access to the medical professionals. Many people that cannot afford
insurance will now have unlimited opportunities to get annual exams and help to prevent major health
issues from going unseen.
With an increase in the amount of people needing/wanting medical treatment, there will be a shortage
of medical staff. This will cause longer wait times, limited resources, as well as not having enough
doctors and specialists to meet the demand.
3
The cost of healthcare would be lower for the US when expenses are prioritized.
Other countries that provided universal health care spend half as much as the US does with the amount
of people who currently have health insurance. The US is

significant, part of the haircut to get a rockabilly girl that is real is bangs. For an authentic rockabilly

Analysis Of 2001 A Space Odyssey
In 1968, reputable director/producer Stanley Kubrick revolutionized the art of film with his Arthur C.
Clark collaboration, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The MGM film is known for it s striking imagery mostly
because, upon an audience member s first viewing, it is the only thing that actually makes sense. After
the second or third viewing, though, one realizes that the story is something larger than life. Or at least
it is larger than the human race. 2001 tells the story of evolution and the future that humans might
eventually encounter. The plot of 2001: A Space Odyssey is complex. The basic plot takes place after
the human race finds a mysterious monolith buried on the moon. A crew of astronauts, the main of
which are Dr. Dave Bowman, played by Keir Dullea, and Dr. Frank Poole, played by Gary Lockwood,
set out on a mission to the outer moons of Jupiter. With them is the artificial intelligence computer,
H.A.L. 9000, which controls all of the functions of the ship, including the life support systems holding
part of the still hibernating crew. After a series of events that lead Dr. Bowman and Dr. Poole to
believe Hal is malfunctioning, relations between human and computer become hostile. The function of
this film is not to portray computers as evil beings. 2001 serves as a science fiction thought piece on
what the next step of evolution might be. The film starts by showing the dawn of man four million
years ago. The actions of the apes are primal. They are mostly herbivores

Speech Codes Theory Essay
I. Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured
human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds
of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their
communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be
discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical
commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the
tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with
an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded
principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical
statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the
earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was
to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally
distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had
been established a large body of fieldwork about cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted
and published under the auspices of the ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). Some 250 of these
studies were cited in

Analyse the advantages and limitations of different methods of, and media for, making presentations
A variety of communication media can be considered when planning to produce a presentation, for
example verbal communication and written communication, each type of communication media has
its advantages and limitations. When developing my presentation I decided to use both verbal and
written communication, although both communication methods were used I had to ensure that they
were used in the correct quantities. To keep my presentation engaging I tried to use as much visual
representation as possible limiting the amount of text per slide. I chose to use PowerPoint because of
its combination of written and verbal communication (not to mention the cost effectiveness of
choosing PowerPoint and simplistic interface); the written aspects included the text on the slides,
screenshots and images. The screenshots proved particularly useful as they was of the actual database
used in the daily running of the Apprenticeships Store, once paired with the demonstration of inputting
data into the database it ensured greater understanding due to more practical learning as opposed to
theoretical learning. More detail was provided in my handouts ensuring I didn t give too much
information at once and this allowed the audience to document any supplementary information I said
during the presentation, by speaking and interpreting what was on the slides ensured the presentation

The professor of an upper level Homeland Security course at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
emphasizes to his students that, being able to research and write effectively is a requirement for all
college graduates, and especially those interested in a career in the field of Homeland Security
(Appendix). After graduation, students going into the field of Homeland Security specifically at the
Department of Homeland Security can expect to be writing constantly. The application process to the
Department of Homeland Security even requires writing samples, essays or references ( Homeland

readers. The case study assigned is a great opportunity for students to work on writing efficiently. In
order to be successful on the assignment, students need to use efficient diction.
As inexperienced writers, it can be easy for students to feel like they need to overcompensate to their
professors by using overly extravagant words. In today s society, thesauruses are available at just a
right click in Microsoft Word, so it becomes extremely tempting for students to switch common,
simple words for words that seem more sophisticated so they can sound smart and like they
understand the topic more. Even though some sophisticated words are more specific and can work
more efficiently on many occasions, students need to be aware of their audience and what level to

women particularly necklaces and bracelets. It is very likely however that men s jewelry existed
before women began adorning themselves. Custom men s jewelry existed during the Stone Age over a
thousand centuries ago; Ice Age hunters often wore necklaces made from the teeth, claws and/or bones
of animals which they had killed for the tribe to eat. Among North American Indians, women s and
men s jewelry served a dual purpose: dentalia, or wampum shells worn around the neck also served as
currency. Today, palladium wedding bands are the latest thing in men s jewelry, but hardly the only
thing. Men s watches (including dive watches for the undersea adventurer), movado gold watches and
tungsten carbide wedding rings are just some of what is available. About Mens Watches Pocket

Heroes Are Not Born Heroes
Hero. According to Webster s New World Dictionary, a hero is defined as any person, male or female,
admired for courage, nobility, etc (Webster s New World Dictionary, hero 1 ). Webster s Pocket
Dictionary, comparably, defines a hero as a person of great courage, spirit, etc., especially one who has
undergone great danger or difficulty (Webster s Pocket Dictionary, hero 3 ). Heroes are not born
heroes. Yes, everyone is born with the ability to become a hero, but in time, they may or may not
become one. In our society, heroes are greatly acclaimed in the media. Whenever some person takes a
bullet for a loved one or save a child from a burning building, there is a huge deal made about it, and
they become known as heroes. But a person does not have to physically save someone s life to be a
hero. A hero can also be someone who simply stands up for what he or she believes. Much like Atticus
Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, a hero can be someone who knows what is right and does the right
thing, even if he is ridiculed for doing so. Also, whether or not a person is a hero depends on the
perspective of the person. For instance, a little girl may think her father is the greatest man alive, but
her first grade classmate does not think so instead, she thinks her father is a hero. The daughters of the
man who is known for deterring United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001 definitely think him
a hero, as does his wife and the public ( Wives of Passengers on Flight 93 ).

True Lies
One can argue that the veracity of autobiographies, by nature, is extremely deceptive. The vast
majority of the facts contained within them are colored, quite naturally, by the perceptions and
interpretations of the author. The tendency to take liberty with the truth is often exacerbated when the
author of such works has an affinity (or perhaps gift) for the written language, such as is the case with
both Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein, who produced fairly unconventional autobiographical
works entitled A Moveable Feast and The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, respectively. The
proclivity to glorify one s own actions and deeds in effect to make oneself appear cool is often an
irresistible temptation, especially for those writing about people (including themselves) whom
posterity admires, such as the lost generation of expatriate American writers living in Paris in the early
part of the 20th century. In light of that fact, it is interesting to note that both Hemingway and Stein
create an image of their

Taking a Stand on Land, Forest, Wildlife Management
From the age of 15 I have had a job and was always better at work than school. It wasn t until recently
that I decided I need a change, so I chose to start college. My love of fishing and the outdoors made
the decision easy when it came to choosing my major, Land Forestry Wildlife Management. Although
the decision came easy and I feel it is the right career for me, there are many issues, positive and
negative, related to my field. Land, Forest, Wildlife Management does a lot of good for people and
animals but can also hurt. Prescribed burning, wildlife control and forest management are all big
issues related to the field. Prescribed burning, also called controlled burns, has many purposes. The
American Indians set fire to stimulate the development of plants and keep areas open to produce food
(Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Prescribed fires help improve wildlife habitat and soil
quality. After the burns, the brush grows back greener and lusher, providing nesting areas for creatures
such as deer. In addition, prescribed fires are a cheaper way to manage vegetation as they require no
bulldozing, cutting, or chemicals (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Many argue that
prescribed burning is dangerous, but so are other things, including some things people do on a daily
basis. For instance, driving a car. Just starting the car alone creates a spark that ignites combustion in
the cylinders. A spark combined with gasoline in the car is a dangerous

Trends in the Industry of IT and the Business Cycles Essay
The name information technology was used for the first time in 1958, in an article in Harvard
Business Review and since that time this industry has seen only innovations throughout the history.
Some problems that the industry is facing are the increase competition from the offshore and inshore
players, the slow growth of the hardware sales, the decrease in the IT spending globally etc. But
despite all the problems and challenges that the industry is facing, the opportunities are many. One of
the most important ones is the increased number of the smart device users which is established as a
very profitable segment for the information technology segment.

The slowdown in the IT spending globally
According to information technology industry estimates, global IT spending growth has been 2%
which is smaller than the previous forecast of 4.1% for 2013. The decrease in the IT spending by
enterprises as the cut on capital expenditure is due to economic uncertainties prevailing globally
which could negatively impact the IBM s revenue growth.
Competition from offshore players
The competition from offshore players has been increasing in recently. Offshore IT outsourcers are
selling directly to the end users and in this way they compete directly with the local suppliers of these
services such as IBM. This phenomenon creates a highly competitive industry which makes
companies to continually search for ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors.
SlowGrowth in the hardware segment
One of the main problems is the slow growth in the hardware segment. IBM sales growth has been flat
in the last quarters because the company has been unable to successfully close new multimillion
dollars hardware and software deals in the last year because of the bad economic conditions. The
hardware sales have been declining because different firms prefer moving to cloud services which run
largely on low cost hardware often custom build for cloud architectures. IBMs revenues from servers
and hardware have been decreasing a lot. Even though IBM moved to a new high value area such as

Charlemagne In The 21st Century
Historians and academics of the 21st century have different opinions on whether Charlemagne was a
barbaric slaughterer or a statesman. A modern scholar could defend their opinion by saying that
Charlemagne was a brutal murderer who killed thousands of innocent children, families, and caused a
catastrophe. An opposing side might hold the belief that Charlemagne was a great emperor who
unified Western Europe and created innovations that further progressed civilization. In any case,
Charlemagne was a statesman whose intention was to strengthen the political and cultural aspect of
government.
In 476 AD, the Western Roman Empire had lost the strength needed to effectively manage a large
empire. Charlemagne s reign had strengthened the Western part of the Roman Empire and facilitated
the development of Western Civilization. Firstly, Charlemagne improved the alphabet by introducing
lowercase letters, also known as Carolingian minuscule. Carolingian minuscule replaced the
Merovingian handwriting and Roman alphabet, which only contained capital letters: Charlemagne and
his clerical advisers consciously set out to improve the institutional and technical aspects of
government. Carolingian script is an example. In a sense, Carolingian Script is even an improvement
over Latin, which employs only capital letters. Writing was used all throughout the Carolingian
empire from writing legal documents such as oaths and capitularies to being implemented in school.

The Democratic Party at its worst is better for the country than the Republican Party at its best. This

Is this quote true today? That is a question that can only be answered after a careful analysis of the
philosophy of the Republican and Democratic leaders that help to run this nation.
Neither of the two major parties is made up of people who are all of one mind. Each party is a

Embodiment in the Robotic Fields
The embodiment has become the big challenge for the researchers especially in robotic fields. They
have tried to find the way that a robot or an agent which can be controlled as our will. Also, how we
can feel that the robot or agent becomes our body. We can feel as the robot or agent feels. The classical
experiment using Rubber hand, conclude that the participants can feel that the rubber hand which
placed near their hand as their hand [17]. This illusion is well known as Rubber hand illusion (RHI).
Tele operation has great influence by this embodiment. Embodiment can make operator feel the
remote robot as if their body so that with this technology the operator is expected to do his job better.
Embodiment can be established in tele operator just using joystick to control robot and video as a
feedback [18], [19]. This system can fulfill the sense of body location and the sense of agency. In
order to get more information about the surrounding of the robot and be able to interact with the object
near the robot, stereoscopic vision is needed. Robots which use monoscopic vision can have some
trouble if it needs depth perception [15], [20]. Furthermore, stereoscopic head mound display increase
the agility, efficiency of the operator [21]. To exploit the positive outcome, we use stereo camera with
stereroscopic and the operator use head mount display to see the output. To enrich the sense of body
ownerships, the tele operator system can be added with haptic feedback. Haptic

Comment: Many students mistakenly think that the reason why there is no free rotation of the C=C

bond when the  bond is even stronger than the  bond? The correct explanation should be: There is
no free rotation of the C=C bond because of the bond. For a bond to be formed, the p orbitals
must be properly aligned. Free rotation about the C=C bond is equivalent to breaking the bond and
misaligning the p orbitals.  Comment: Geometrical isomerism is NOT POSSIBLE if one of the

Roman Persecution of Christians The Roman Empire was arguably the most powerful society the
ancient world ever saw. It was an advanced civilization in which not only the rich, but also people of
lower classes residing in Roman borders, believed in the strength of unity. The Romans trusted that as
long as all people worked as one to help the empire, as it was their duty, they would remain strong and

Most people know what crucifixion looks like, but what most don t consider is how it must feel to
have nails driven through your limbs. We all recognize the iconic image of Jesus on the cross, but it s
wrong to assume that all crucifixions were executed in the often depicted upright position. According
to Senior Reporter Esther Inglis Arkell, people could be crucified upside down, sideways along the
arms of the cross, or in any other way, shape, or form the emperors saw fit. Instead of nailing hands to
the cross, it was more commonplace and more favorable to nail the wrists. This meant more stability,
and a longer time upright. However, this would also mean the possibility of cutting a major artery,
which would ve caused exsanguination. It s likely the people carrying out the crucifixion would ve
been trained to avoid this, as the point of this method of torture is to delay the death of the victim for
as long as possible. The most common cause of death resulting from crucifixion has been concluded to
be suffocation. The body exhausts itself to the point where it can no longer physically inhale. It d
resemble drowning without water. However, this could only happen if the victim in question did not
first die of exposure. Weather, scavenger animals such as rats, and even Roman citizens could
contribute to the death. Keep in mind, all this physical pain would occur alongside the slow mental

Response to Intervention in the Class Room Essay
Response to Intervention Response to Intervention (RtI) is a framework based off the problem solving
method that integrates assessment, and targeted instruction, within a multi tiered intervention system.
Implementation of RtI in schools is crucial to identify which students need additional intervention that
will help increase their literacy skills, and prevent them from falling behind. RtI is based off multi
leveled tiers that are each categorized by the intensity of the intervention that is being used. The RtI
framework is also used as a valued tool in monitoring and improving student behavior in the
classroom through a model known as Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS). RtI was

If the appropriate progress is not made by a student in Tier III in a timely matter, the next step would
be to test the student for any learning disabilities that are hindering their literacy skills. RtI works at its
best when personal from across the school, including administrators, general education teachers,
special education teachers, supplemental specialists, music and gym teachers, and counselors all
collaborate to support the framework, because each staff member shares equal responsibility for the
success and failure of all students (Shapiro 2011). RtI needs the full support of all staff members,
because it does not show immediate results and could take between 3 5 years to see its positive
impact. RtI gives schools the chance to correct literacy issues, and fix the problem early, before
students progress forward where they pay for it long into their future. RtI also helps implement
behavioral interventions in the classroom through a similar process called Positive Behavioral
Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is based on a problem solving model and aims to prevent
inappropriate behavior through teaching and reinforcing appropriate behaviors (Sandomierski,
Kincaid Algozzine, 2007). Both RtI and PBIS are grounded in differentiated instruction; a type of

Degrees Of Unsaturation Of Hydrocarbons
An Analysis into how Degrees of Unsaturation of Hydrocarbons impact the enthalpy produced in a
Combustion Reaction
Aim
To investigate the relationship between the degrees of unsaturation (DoU) and the amount of enthalpy,
in a combustion reaction and to subsequently, determine whether a hydrocarbons hydrogen deficiency
increases or decreases the enthalpy of a reaction.
Hypothesis
It is hypothesised that a hydrocarbon with a lower DoU value will produce more heat energy and,
therefore, will have a lower enthalpy value. This is because a more saturated hydrocarbon produces a
greater amount of energy in a combustion reaction1.

Examples Of Analogy In Teaching
1.0 Introduction
Definition: An analogy is a comparison between one thing and another, usually for the purpose of
explanation or interpretation. It is similar to metaphor and simile; they are usually used in
conversation to relate one situation to other.
According to (Heick, 2014) other than conversational analogy there are analogies, which are formal
analogies, used in teaching. They usually are called academic analogies. These analogies are the
research based tool for teaching in science class rooms. It can also be used in text books and web
based learning environment. Analogy can be used to explain concepts effectively to the students,
which makes sense of the concepts to the students. This also helps them to understand easily than
normal explanation. Especially, the students from primary and lower primary are getting to know of
the science concept for the first time. Analogies make the subject interesting to the students from the
age group of 5 to 12. In Maldives, National Institute of Education has implemented key stage 1 and 2
for the classes from grade 1 to 5 fully, with the help of analogy teachers can easily make the students

The aware idea is called the analog and the unaware one the target. The analog and the target have
attributes; if the analog and the target have similar features then an analogy may be made between
them. An orderly comparison, orally or visually, between the features of the analog and target is called
a mapping. A theoretical illustration of an analogy, with its essential parts, appears in Figure 1. Figure

Themes, Motifs and Symbols in A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
Throughout the play, A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare, are several
themes, motifs, and symbols. Dreams are a reoccurring theme. Dreams are connected to the
unexplainable and mysterious events, occurring in the woods. A Midsummer Night s Dream can be
compared to The Tempest , also written by Shakespeare, because it contains the same theme of dreams
That, if I then had waked after long sleep, / Will make me sleep again: and then, in dreaming (3.2. 139
140, Caliban) Contrast of appearances verses reality is a common motif throughout the play. It is

what visions have I seen! Methought I was enamour d of an ass. (4.1. 63 64). Titania is uncertain
whether her vision is a dream or reality, because dreams are soon forgotten, while Titania s vision is
conspicuously detailed and memorable. In act five, scene two, at the end of the play, Puck also is
desiring for the audience to view the play as a vision, which is appearing, but is no more clear than a
dream While these visions did appear./And this weak and idle theme,/ No more yielding but a dream,
(5.2. 47 49) There is much confusion distinguishing reality from dreams. Therefore, dreams are an
important and reoccurring theme, throughout the play. A frequently occurring motif, throughout the
play, is contrast between appearances verses reality. The flower s love juice is causing lovers to
blindly fall in love, with the first person they lay their eyes on, after waking up. In act three of the
play, Titania is falling in love with the donkey headed, Bottom On the first view, to say, to swear, I
love thee (3.1. 117). In act two, Lysander is under the flower s love spell, and his true love for Hermia,
is being transformed into false love for Helena. Lysander has an unrealistic fantasy of Helena, and his
fantasy of Hermia is drastically worsening Get you gone, you dwarf; /You minimus, of hind ring knot

Vitamins For Fatigue
Vitamins for Fatigue
Fatigue is a feeling of tiredness. This is usually due to physical, medical condition or mental activity
that leaves one exhausted. It is therefore prudent for a person to beat such forms of exhaustion so that
their lives go on smoothly. Exercising a healthy diet may be the key to beating such forms of
exhaustion. In this case taking certain types of Vitamins may solve this issue.
Vitamin B12, is a vitamin that is essential in a human being s diet. It is usually water soluble and it
creates energy in the body by converting consumed carbohydrates into the form of glucose. This
vitamin is required by the body for production of red blood cells, the myelin sheath that usually
surrounds the nerve cells and also other proteins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This vitamin is taken in tablet form. It is very important in the body since it enables body metabolisms
to take place effectively and therefore sustain a well functioning brain. A deficiency of Vitamin B9 has
certain symptoms such as poor immune system, depression, confusion and slowed functioning of the
brain, leading to loss of memory and mental fatigue.
Vitamin A is very important in several body metabolisms. It is usually fat soluble. This Vitamin is
important for cell growth and for vision. It is a strong antioxidant that usually protects the body from
breakdown due to free radicals. These free radicals, cause illness in the body and are contracted after
the body is exposed to pollution, stress or intake of a poor diet. Vitamin A is thus important in
neutralizing this damage to body cells and keeps the body stress free by improving the immune
system. This reduces fatigue in the body. This Vitamin is also important in the manufacture of red
blood cells. These are used for carrying oxygen and nutrients to all body cells so that they are supplied
with nutrients at all times. This ensure that body cells are energized at all times reducing the instances
of fatigue. Too much of it is however harmful to the body since it is fat soluble. An excessive
consumption of it can lead to head aches, liver damage and death. People are therefore advised to seek
the opinion of the doctor so that they may know what proportions of vitamin A to consume. Food
sources that are a good source of this Vitamin include carrots, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, lettuce,
fish, tropical fruits and liver. One may also consume vitamin A

Yellow Journalism In The Murder Of The Century
1897: When Journalism got its Color
It is a fact that deceitful writing can land an ephemeral murder on the front page of the daily paper. Yet
more striking is the fact that a deceitful headliner can transform a perplexing investigation into the
century s most noteworthy event. This type of media duplicity comes at the cost of truth. In The
Murder of the Century, the reader can see the creation of yellow journalism and can witness large
companies take the helm of media. Collins uses yellow journalism to invigorate an already
invigorating murder investigation.
The battle between two newspaper companies to cover an ever growing story generates interest in the
public. Furthermore, as the details of the murder investigation pour out, the two major

The time has come when the common old time thug making a place for themselves has ended and now the devastating effects of the new bully come to life. New bullies don t just stop with words and maybe a playground fight, now we have severe physical trauma and even death as a result of the negative responses to this type of treatment. Amazingly enough the amount of physical bullying has increased as with the increase of school bullying: The common thought has been bullying is a normal reaction to school. Studies show that bullying is the result of underlying issues. Traditional bullying was a common thug trying to make a place for themselves, whereas now it has gone to new heights, it now includes physical trauma and even death. We find that bullying affects the bully as well as the victim. The victims tend to have more problems in school with attendance and achievements within the academic world. This is not just about the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, it involves all students that don t fit societies idea of normal then the person gets bullied. The amount of attention given to this issue is a direct result of this escalation in events within the school system from grade schools to universities. The most pressing problem with getting the bullying policies changed is the conservative communities that school boards serve and convincing them that these policies need to be ... • 3. Xuanzang Dharma Master Sparknotes Xuanzang was a Chinese Buddhist monk who performed a historic pilgrimage to India in search of sutras , dharma and the sacred traces of the Buddha . He undertook this journey at a most tumultuous time; when the Tang dynasty was at war with the Turks. Due to the restrictions on border crossing, his expedition to India in 629 A.D was very difficult. Xuanzang, however, did not experience a break in his resolve and successfully completed his journey. Several decades after Xuanzang returned from India, his disciples Huili and Yanzong wrote his biography. Based on oral accounts from their Dharma Master and their own observations of his life and vocation in China, they constructed his experiences on paper. Since the primary source of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The letter which the king of Gaochang wrote for Yabgu Khan is particularly enlightening concerning the Chinese encounters with Central Asia. The king assumed a very modest position and exalted the powerful Turk. It s interesting to note that he did not threaten the Turk of impending consequences which would arise if the Dharma Master were to be hurt. Nor did he exalt the position of the Dharma Master . He referred to himself as your humble slave , denoted Yabgu Khan as your highness Khan and pleaded for the protection of the humble slave s brother in the same way as you protect your humble slave . The rhetoric employed by the king suggests that he respected the Turkish ruler very much and perhaps feared him a little too. It also sheds some light on the disposition of the Turk; perhaps Yabgu Khan required such appeasement and it kept him from being hostile as he didn t perceive the other as a threat. Another important thing to note here is that the twenty four letters were attached to a bolt of heavy damask . In that particular period silk was considered very special and it represented wealth. The Chinese also used to use silks as effective economic inducements when conducting diplomacy with nomadic people (Silks and Religions in Eurasia, C. A.D. 600 1200). Yabgu Khan was presented with five hundred bolts of damask as a sign of goodwill. The account of Yabgu Khan s interaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comedy in Don Quixote Q.2 Wherein lies the comedy in part one of Don Quixote? The story Don Quixote is a burlesque, mock epic of the romances of chivalry, in which Cervantes teaches the reader the truth by creating laughter that ridicules. Through the protagonist, he succeeds in satirizing Spain s obsession with the noble knights as being absurdly old fashioned. The dynamics of the comedy in this story are simple, Don Quixote believes the romances he has read and strives to live them out, and it is his actions and the situations that he finds himself in during his adventures that make the reader laugh. We can define comedy as something that entertains the reader and that makes us want to laugh out loud and Cervantes succeeds in doing this through his use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, most of the situations that Don Quixote is placed in during his ridiculous quest are excellent examples of slapstick comedy. The reader is highly entertained by Don Quixote on his adventures during which he implicitly believes that he is like the knights in the novels he has read and so; he logically believes his own fiction. The reader is embarrassed when Don Quixote decides that by choosing a new name for himself, his horse, his lady and his friends that this will suffice in making him a knight. Just like he shaped his own appearance, he chooses his name as Don Quixote de La Mancha and this becomes one of the most prominent jokes of the book. It is a name that is undignified and pretentious but simultaneously amusing because La Mancha is a dry, sparsely populated region of Spain, which is exactly what a knight should avoid. The suffix ote was considered derogatory at that time and it is even funny sounding. We are skeptical from the very beginning as to whether or not Don Quixote is worthy of the title Don and our suspicions are confirmed when he fails to assist people in distress like any good knight should. It is highly entertaining when Andrés specifically asks Don Quixote not to complicate his life with any more of his help No me socorra ni ayude, sino ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the most popular types of these movies is old westerns with cowboys and Indigenous people. Hollywood has not always represented an accurate portrayal of Indigenous peoples in the portrayal of all Indigenous Peoples as Plains Peoples, savages, and constantly warring against other tribes. The Indigenous Peoples were not all Plains Peoples. Many of the indigenous people were from the southwest United States, with many splinter groups and many more different cultures (Text 5). With hollywood s portrayal of the Plains people they lost all the culture of the many groups of people who were very different. With the loss of the culture and only one culture of the Indigenous peoples represented the reality of the representation was sorely inaccurate. The Iroquois were a group of people in the Central New York region who had a largely different culture from the Plains People. Their society was a matriarchal society, in which the women would own the land and head the family (Text 1). RMC employs a standard three tier distribution system where the company sells to wholesalers who in turn sell to retailers who sell to the public. The company finds its niche in the premium and ultra premium segments of the table wine market (Burns et al., 2001). In January 1999, Michael Mondavi, the CEO of the RMC and son of its founder, Robert Mondavi, announced the reorganization of the company and the layoff of 4% of the workforce. RMC had experienced a shortfall in supplying its Woodbridge Chardonnay brand. Unhappy distributors had begun substituting competing Chardonnay brands on retailer s shelves. Yet, some distributors remained reluctant to carry the brand even though Woodbridge production levels returned to normal and further reducing company sales (Thompson Strickland 2003). During this period, the senior management was completing the process of reconfiguring RMC s future strategies. • 9. Social Structure And Social Structures Social structures are the most important aspects of human society. Social structure is the foundation upon which human society is created from. Therefore, it is necessary that we understand what social structures actually are. These structures are what organize the social relationships and institutions within a society, making it possible for the existence of a society. As a result, the question of how and why social structures matter are important in understanding how social structures work. Therefore, social structures are important because they force us to take on new perspectives in the analysis of everyday experiences, produce the social structures and institutions that control us, analyze the manifest and latent functions they serve, observe the objectivity of social reality and finally they allow for an intimate evaluation of ones self and social position. Consequently, social structure is relevant in my daily life because it has forced me to change how I look at myself and my own experiences and more importantly the power that the historical context and its social structures exert on my personal consciousness. As a result, Mills makes the argument that we are falsely led to believe that our current social position in society is due to our own effort and doing. This argument reflects social reality and it is the result of the social structures that are present in society, and the interplay between societal history and biography. Part of developing that skill is about paying attention and I think we d all agree, paying attention in the age of distraction is hard. There is a myriad of distractions every minute: the latest bombastic tweet by our deranged president; someone posting a beautiful plate of food on Instagram; or the onslaught of Facebook posts showing all your poet friends and acquaintances meeting up at AWP. I have no clear goal in mind for the notes I take, poet and essayist Alison Hawthorne Deming writes in Writing the Sacred Into the Real. Other than to help myself remember the intensities of the day, the mix of sensation and thought as it rises and falls with the swells. For me, note taking happens sporadically. Throughout much of my writing life, I ve worked on poems in my head for a long time before I put anything on paper. As I get older, however, I find taking notes helps especially if I m busy with daily life work, family, getting the dry cleaning. The Notes app on my iPhone is one repository, notebooks and the occasional scrap of paper are another. As with Deming s, my note taking may or may not lead to a poem or an essay or much of anything. Yet, as she imparts, taking them forces a kind of attention that makes the experience richer, and attention is central to both artistic and spiritual practice. Practice. That word speaks to me. Poetry as practice seems right. We are amateurs of a sort at translating the unsayable. To do so requires attention and practice. While we must pay attention to those moments of inspiration, often we re slogging away at draft upon draft of a poem, trying to find where the poem really wants to go. And ... Engaging in business means carrying on or causing to be carried on any activity with the purpose of direct or indirect benefit, with certain exceptions inapplicable to the Company s facts. The tax is assessed against the gross proceeds of a business. For purposes of the GRT, a presumption exists that all receipts of a person engaging in business are subject to the GRT, unless the taxpayer can make an affirmative showing that the receipts are not taxable. The court stated that the [a]doption of the destination principle does not require us to construe the gross receipts tax to include principles of transfer of title, transfer of possession, or risk of loss, which are concepts that were not included in the language employed by our legislature. Therefore, we hold that the destination principle applies to determine whether an interstate transaction is a taxable sale under our gross receipts tax laws. While the court does not hold the principles of transfer of title, transfer of possession, or risk of loss as dispositive, they are certainly important in analyzing the situs of the sale. iii. Transactions in the Stream of Interstate Commerce A deduction is allowed from the gross receipts tax for receipts from transactions in interstate commerce if the imposition of the tax would be unlawful under the Constitution. Presumably, to the extent that taxation of receipts derived from transactions in foreign commerce would violate the Constitution, one may conclude that New Mexico could not impose its gross receipts tax. The deduction for receipts derived from transactions in interstate commerce has been a part of the gross receipts tax for many years. Contemporary commerce clause doctrine has held that there is no bar to the imposition of a state s tax on income or receipts from a transaction merely because a transaction is in interstate commerce, as long as certain requirements are met. There are compelling arguments for both sides, though the argument that peaceful resistance positively impacts society stands to be the most persuasive. Nonviolent resistance benefits a free society because it serves as a method for defeating oppressive regimes and societal norms, it allows powerful leaders to emerge to unite people under one cause, and it facilitates the establishment of lasting democracies. History has credited this emergence to the Industrial Revolution; however, history has not decided if the industrialists or the immigrants are most essential to this growth, or if it is a collaboration of the efforts of both of these groups. Even though immigrants helped build the workforce of the Industrial Revolution, it is the ideals of the Industrialist business owners who transformed American to the forefront of power in the late 19th century for those immigrants. First of all, industrialists, such as Carnegie and Rockefeller, made the emergence of power possible. Factors Of Favor Of The Argument Essay Module 2 Assignment 2: Factors in Favor of and Against Name: Kellie Runyon Topic: Universal health care: Governmental provision of free health care for all citizens. Part 1: Matrix Strength of the Argument (1 strongest, 6 weakest) Reasons for Reasons Against 1 Universal health care would be affordable for everyone Millions of people would save money with universal healthcare due to everyone paying an equal amount; whether it be through tax increase or some other form. However, it will amount to less money than those who are paying for healthcare now due to the fact that every citizen pays for it and not only the people who can afford the raising prices. Tax Increases to cover the healthcare change. 2 Public health would improve with universal health care All citizens will have unlimited access to the medical professionals. Many people that cannot afford insurance will now have unlimited opportunities to get annual exams and help to prevent major health issues from going unseen. With an increase in the amount of people needing/wanting medical treatment, there will be a shortage of medical staff. This will cause longer wait times, limited resources, as well as not having enough doctors and specialists to meet the demand. 3 The cost of healthcare would be lower for the US when expenses are prioritized. The MGM film is known for it s striking imagery mostly because, upon an audience member s first viewing, it is the only thing that actually makes sense. After the second or third viewing, though, one realizes that the story is something larger than life. Or at least it is larger than the human race. 2001 tells the story of evolution and the future that humans might eventually encounter. The plot of 2001: A Space Odyssey is complex. The basic plot takes place after the human race finds a mysterious monolith buried on the moon. A crew of astronauts, the main of which are Dr. Dave Bowman, played by Keir Dullea, and Dr. Frank Poole, played by Gary Lockwood, set out on a mission to the outer moons of Jupiter. With them is the artificial intelligence computer, H.A.L. 9000, which controls all of the functions of the ship, including the life support systems holding part of the still hibernating crew. After a series of events that lead Dr. Bowman and Dr. Poole to believe Hal is malfunctioning, relations between human and computer become hostile. The function of this film is not to portray computers as evil beings. 2001 serves as a science fiction thought piece on what the next step of evolution might be. The film starts by showing the dawn of man four million years ago. The actions of the apes are primal. They are mostly herbivores ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Speech Codes Theory Essay I. Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had been established a large body of fieldwork about cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted and published under the auspices of the ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). When developing my presentation I decided to use both verbal and written communication, although both communication methods were used I had to ensure that they were used in the correct quantities. To keep my presentation engaging I tried to use as much visual representation as possible limiting the amount of text per slide. I chose to use PowerPoint because of its combination of written and verbal communication (not to mention the cost effectiveness of choosing PowerPoint and simplistic interface); the written aspects included the text on the slides, screenshots and images. The screenshots proved particularly useful as they was of the actual database used in the daily running of the Apprenticeships Store, once paired with the demonstration of inputting data into the database it ensured greater understanding due to more practical learning as opposed to theoretical learning. According to Webster s New World Dictionary, a hero is defined as any person, male or female, admired for courage, nobility, etc (Webster s New World Dictionary, hero 1 ). Webster s Pocket Dictionary, comparably, defines a hero as a person of great courage, spirit, etc., especially one who has undergone great danger or difficulty (Webster s Pocket Dictionary, hero 3 ). Heroes are not born heroes. Yes, everyone is born with the ability to become a hero, but in time, they may or may not become one. In our society, heroes are greatly acclaimed in the media. Whenever some person takes a bullet for a loved one or save a child from a burning building, there is a huge deal made about it, and they become known as heroes. But a person does not have to physically save someone s life to be a hero. A hero can also be someone who simply stands up for what he or she believes. Much like Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, a hero can be someone who knows what is right and does the right thing, even if he is ridiculed for doing so. Also, whether or not a person is a hero depends on the perspective of the person. For instance, a little girl may think her father is the greatest man alive, but her first grade classmate does not think so instead, she thinks her father is a hero. The daughters of the man who is known for deterring United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001 definitely think him a hero, as does his wife and the public ( Wives of Passengers on Flight 93 ). ... Had I not fulfilled those instructions, you would not have turned the paper in and received this additional feedback from your instructor. This additional feedback warrants an additional assignment. You should place another order for more pages. Thanks. True Lies One can argue that the veracity of autobiographies, by nature, is extremely deceptive. The vast majority of the facts contained within them are colored, quite naturally, by the perceptions and interpretations of the author. The tendency to take liberty with the truth is often exacerbated when the author of such works has an affinity (or perhaps gift) for the written language, such as is the case with both Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein, who produced fairly unconventional autobiographical works entitled A Moveable Feast and The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, respectively. The proclivity to glorify one s own actions and deeds in effect to make oneself appear cool is often an irresistible temptation, especially for those writing about people (including themselves) whom posterity admires, such as the lost generation of expatriate American writers living in Paris in the early part of the 20th century. In light of that fact, it is interesting to note that both Hemingway and Stein create an image of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the decision came easy and I feel it is the right career for me, there are many issues, positive and negative, related to my field. Land, Forest, Wildlife Management does a lot of good for people and animals but can also hurt. Prescribed burning, wildlife control and forest management are all big issues related to the field. Prescribed burning, also called controlled burns, has many purposes. The American Indians set fire to stimulate the development of plants and keep areas open to produce food (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Prescribed fires help improve wildlife habitat and soil quality. After the burns, the brush grows back greener and lusher, providing nesting areas for creatures such as deer. In addition, prescribed fires are a cheaper way to manage vegetation as they require no bulldozing, cutting, or chemicals (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Many argue that prescribed burning is dangerous, but so are other things, including some things people do on a daily basis. For instance, driving a car. The slowdown in the IT spending globally According to information technology industry estimates, global IT spending growth has been 2% which is smaller than the previous forecast of 4.1% for 2013. The decrease in the IT spending by enterprises as the cut on capital expenditure is due to economic uncertainties prevailing globally which could negatively impact the IBM s revenue growth. Competition from offshore players The competition from offshore players has been increasing in recently. Offshore IT outsourcers are selling directly to the end users and in this way they compete directly with the local suppliers of these services such as IBM. This phenomenon creates a highly competitive industry which makes companies to continually search for ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors. SlowGrowth in the hardware segment One of the main problems is the slow growth in the hardware segment. IBM sales growth has been flat in the last quarters because the company has been unable to successfully close new multimillion dollars hardware and software deals in the last year because of the bad economic conditions. A modern scholar could defend their opinion by saying that Charlemagne was a brutal murderer who killed thousands of innocent children, families, and caused a catastrophe. An opposing side might hold the belief that Charlemagne was a great emperor who unified Western Europe and created innovations that further progressed civilization. In any case, Charlemagne was a statesman whose intention was to strengthen the political and cultural aspect of government. In 476 AD, the Western Roman Empire had lost the strength needed to effectively manage a large empire. Charlemagne s reign had strengthened the Western part of the Roman Empire and facilitated the development of Western Civilization. Firstly, Charlemagne improved the alphabet by introducing lowercase letters, also known as Carolingian minuscule. Carolingian minuscule replaced the Merovingian handwriting and Roman alphabet, which only contained capital letters: Charlemagne and his clerical advisers consciously set out to improve the institutional and technical aspects of government. Carolingian script is an example. In a sense, Carolingian Script is even an improvement over Latin, which employs only capital letters. We all recognize the iconic image of Jesus on the cross, but it s wrong to assume that all crucifixions were executed in the often depicted upright position. According to Senior Reporter Esther Inglis Arkell, people could be crucified upside down, sideways along the arms of the cross, or in any other way, shape, or form the emperors saw fit. Instead of nailing hands to the cross, it was more commonplace and more favorable to nail the wrists. This meant more stability, and a longer time upright. However, this would also mean the possibility of cutting a major artery, which would ve caused exsanguination. It s likely the people carrying out the crucifixion would ve been trained to avoid this, as the point of this method of torture is to delay the death of the victim for as long as possible. Hypothesis It is hypothesised that a hydrocarbon with a lower DoU value will produce more heat energy and, therefore, will have a lower enthalpy value. This is because a more saturated hydrocarbon produces a greater amount of energy in a combustion reaction1. Using this data, the following formula was used to measure the heat enthalpy4: Controlled variable How variable is controlled Effect on results of not controlling variable Distance between small can and spirit burner This distance will always be 2cm between the wick and the base of the can, measured each time. increased distance would mean more heat loss to surroundings, thus, a slower increase in temperature for water, impacting the enthalpy calculations. Effect of a decreased distance is the opposite. Equipment (can, balance and thermometer) For each interval and trial the if the same can was used it would mean that the heat enthalpy would ...
