The Grapes of Wrath Essays
The Grapes of Wrath The Grapes of Wrath is set in the horrible stage of our American history,
the Depression. Economic, social, and historical surroundings separate the common man of
America into basically the rich and poor. A basic theme is that man turns against one another in
a selfish pride to only protect themselves. For example, the landowners create a system in which
migrants are treated like animals and pushed along from one roadside camp to the next. They are
denied decent wages and forced to turn against their fellow scramblers to simply survive. The
Grapes of Wrath tells the story of two types of families in that the Joads are a factual one and the
body of migrant workers as the other. The Joads are actual blood... Show more content on

Tom, though, is a very complicated individual who turns out to be a tremendous asset and
burden to the family. His parole causes the family an unneeded worry, but does get work that
helps the family. He is the main protagonist for his family and the main follower of Jim Casy s
philosophy on human nature. Jim is much more of a talker and idealist, and he actually puts
what he preached into action. Jim Casy is frequently compared with Jesus Christ and his
lifestyle of preaching and leading people. As well as sacrificing himself for Tom and the Joad
family which upholds his common held belief. Tom carries Jim s message after his death and
aids others with it. The Joad family, along with Jim Casy, shows the benefit of people uniting in
order to accomplish goals and this is a lesson that the reader can take away from this novel. The
setting is so important to the novel because it sets the role and background of the characters.
View of the Depression then come from a man just off of parole or a grandfather who is getting
old and to weak to be the backbone of the family. The Depression that has hit nailed the common
man and jobs are scarce. This is the binding factor between everyone in the novel that most people
are down in the dumps. The main theme of the book is the character of people in that time. How
people bonded and rejected one another in a time of such hardship and demoralization. I think
every character played a part in the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tribals
ii.Problems of assimilation with the non tribal People: The indigenous people of the Dooars were
the Koch Rajbanshis, the Mech, the Rabhas and the Lepchas. They were well dependent on their
traditional village economy of agriculture, hunting, fishing, and forest based economy. After the
introduction of tea plantation in Dooars, the planters encouraged the immigration of the Nepalese,
and then the tea planters decided to bring labourers from the Santal Parganas and Chhotonagpur
plateau. In the second part of nineteenth century, a large number of tribal people mainly of Oraons,
Santals, Mundas and Malpaharis in migrated to the Dooars. Again after the partition of the country
in 1947, and emergence of Bangladesh in 1971, streams of immigration or infiltration from East
Pakistan and Bangladesh occurred in the areas. The immigrated Bangladeshi people occupied a
vast areas in almost everywhere. Thus the Dooars grew into a new hub of multi racial and multi
lingual people, and of course, this led the demographic and cultural environment to be too complex
for the future.
iii.Loss of Control over Natural Resources: Before coming of the British, the tribals enjoyed
unhindered rights of ownership and management over natural resources like land, forests, wildlife
water, soil, fishes etc. Indigenous peoples have an intuitive relationship with nature, a wealth of
traditional knowledge, and have used natural resources for their livelihood. But, after the
introduction of plantation

Why Is Scout Finch Good Or Bad
Some people say that Scout, the little innocent girl of Maycomb, has been taught some bad
things and some wrong things from school and the people around her; others would say the
otherwise. The book To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, there is many argumentative topics.
This essay will be covering both sides of whether or not Scout was educated with the right
things, or emmersed with what he could have processed either good or bad. Scout s father,
Atticus, taught him until he was old enough to go to public school. Scout s teacher says he has
been taught very poorly by his father Atticus. Now you tell your father not to teach you
anymore. It s best to begin reading with a fresh mind. You tell him I ll take over and try to undo
the damage (Miss Caroline 23). He also has learned life lessons from influences from the people
of Maycomb. Some good ones and some bad. Scout, nigger lover is just one of those terms that don

I do my best to love everybody... I m hard put, sometimes baby, it s never an insult to be called

you. (Atticus 144 145). Atticus may not be able to teach how to read properly, but he can give
some very wise advice. Now you tell your father not to teach you anymore. It s best to begin

Scout did not have proper teachings. What was most likely not thought about is, that after the fact
that Miss Caroline said this, she taught Scout even more in depth than her other students because

Alexander The Great Royal Tapestry
For my museum experience I went to the Getty in Los Angeles. I ended up going around noon
this past Sunday on April 10th because of my awesome time management skills (I m a huge
procrastinator). I was supposed to go with Katie, Sachy, and Victoria as a group, but they re fake
so we all ended up going at different times.Victoria and Sachy had already gone to a museum
over spring break so Katie and I were going to go to the Getty together but that ended up not
happening because her mom is also fake so I went by myself; she ended up going to the
LACMA that day. Oh and I saw on snapchat that Luis, the class overachiever, was at the Getty but
I was too busy being a huge nerd and looking at all the touristy sites, so we didn t get to meet up. I...

The heavy usage of gold around the frame is used to make Alexander the Great seem even more
noble than he already is. The usage of gold on the frame like device also gives this painting a
more sophisticated look. Equally important, like I touched on earlier, the position of the human
figures in this painting also play an important role in making this historical event biased. The
human bodies are clustered and below Alexander the Great s eye level to show dominance and
authority. The Getty also mentions that the text near the bottom of the painting in the cartouche
translates to It is for a king to vanquish himself which includes King Louis XIV. Other hidden
symbols that reference King Louis XIV are the Latin motto of King Louis XIV in the side and top
borders which translate to Not Unequal to many [tasks] (The Getty) and the crossed L s at the top
to represent King Louis XIV symbol. This demonstrates the artist s bias towards representing this

The Relief and Mistakes of the American Red Cross Makes
Undoubtedly, the American Red Cross has done many wonders over the course of its existence.
Whether it is providing relief from disasters, aiding the less fortunate nationally and
internationally or saving lives with their blood program, the Red Cross has always been there to
help the world become a safer place to live in. Most recently, this organization has had a strong
impact in the recovery of Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Isaac, providing food and water,
multiple shelters for people that have lost their homes and even counseling during such a
devastating time ( Top 20 Accomplishments ). It can t be disputed that since its inception, the Red
Cross has had a lasting impact on the overall well being of American citizens, instilling
confidence in them that if a disaster does strike in their lives, the Red Cross is there to ease the
pain a bit. However, much like any other organization, the Red Cross has had its fair share of
flaws and mishaps. A crucial mistake in the business world may result in a substantial loss of
money or even a sentence to prison. Unfortunately for the Red Cross, everything they do and
participate in deals with the lives of everyday individuals. As a result, if their jobs aren t done
correctly or mistakes are being made, it could put the lives of thousands at risk and therefore
jeopardize their institution. Some may argue that in several instances, there has been mistakes
made that have directly and negatively impacted the lives of Americans. An

Essay on Comparing Two Articles on Teen Binge Drinking
Comparing Two Articles on Teen Binge Drinking
The article How to Manage Teen Drinking (the smart way), written by Jeffery Kluger and the
article Getting Stupid, written by Bernie Wuethrich are both articles about teenage binge drinking.
The two articles are very similar and different at the same time, while together rhetorically
appealing to the logos. Combined they give a good background on teenage binge drinking.
Both articles have many similarities; both agree that binge drinking is a problem among
adolescents across the country. Binge drinking is defined by both articles as, five or more drinks in
a row for boys and four or more drinks in a row for girls (Wuethrich, p.58 59). Both articles agree
that one major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was written to give suggestions on how to lower the amount of teenage binge drinking. One
solution that Middlebury College in Vermont has thought of would be to lower the drinking age.
This technique would be useful because kids would be able to drink in more open environments
and not have to hide what they are inevitably going to do. This is productive because in the open
environments, they can be monitored and if anything goes wrong a responsible person will be
there to help. This idea of an 18 year old drinking age is not too plausible because if a state were
to lower the drinking age, the federal government would take away millions of dollars in highway
funding.
The federal government has good reason to take away funding. This is because The University
of Michigan conducted a study when the drinking age was raised from 18 to 21 years old, in the
early 1980 s. The study found that, The change also contributed to a 58% drop in alcohol related
deaths among 15 to 20 year olds since 1982 (Kluger, p.43).
According to Getting Stupid the reason why so many adolescent kids binge drink is because when
they are drunk, dopamine is released in the prefrontal cortex, which gives you a feeling of pleasure.
Teens want this pleasure to reoccur, so they drink again. After a long period of usage a tolerance is
built and more alcohol is needed to receive the same pleasure, which leads to binge drinking
(Wuethrich, p.62).

Essay On Coptic Orthodoxy
A micro culture is a group of people within a culture that differentiates them from the larger culture
to which they belong. As a member of the Christian faith, a micro culture that I strongly associate
myself with is Coptic Orthodoxy. There are many branches of Christianity all over the world today
and Coptic Orthodoxy is one that is constantly growing.
Coptic Orthodoxy is a branch of Christianity influenced by the teachings of Saint Mark in Egypt.
Many refer to this faith as being Coptic . It is not significantly unique to just the United States of
California. There are Coptic Orthodox Christians all over the world today and the numbers are
always on the rise. This branch was first introduced thousands of years ago, so it is not entirely ...

Wearing this cross shows that a person is bearing their cross just like Jesus did when He was being
crucified. A lot of Copts, especially those who were born in Egypt and came to the United
States, have a cross tattooed on the inside of their wrist. It is more common to find those who
were born in Egypt to have this small tattoo because they get it from a very young age, but it is
becoming more popular that youth who were born in the United States to get a bigger and more
dramatic form of the tattoo when they grow up. This also symbolizes a person bearing their
cross but in a different way than just wearing a necklace. I, personally, always wear my necklace
but have yet to get a tattoo on my wrist. Also, priests of the Coptic Orthodox faith are required to
wear a black tunic at all times and must grow a beard from the time that they become a priest.
Coptic Orthodox Christians follow a different calendar than those of the Catholic faith and other
religions. Our calendar is called the Gregorian calendar, and this means that some holidays fall on
different days. For example, we always celebrate Christmas on January 7th while Catholics
celebrate it on December 25th. It is still the same holiday being celebrated which is the birth of
Jesus Christ, but it just comes during a different

Machiavelli The Prince Chapter 1 Analysis
During the Reformation, a resurgence of Christian humanistic thoughts and values appeared which
focused on religious revival (Hunt et al. 448). Humanism emphasizes rational thought in solving
problems over divine or supernatural matters. During the Reformation, young, educated clerics,
funded by wealthy merchants and wealthy families, travelled throughout Europeto spread their
Christian faith to more people. During the Renaissanceperiod, humanists sought to return to
classical Greek, a departure from Latin language and literature. The integration of humanist
ideology and religionis a departure from modern humanist theory which removes all traces of
theology or supernatural belief, requiring the person to affirm their individual responsibility to
leading an ethical life.
In The Prince, Machiavelli takes a humanistic approach to governing. In Chapter I, he discusses the
maintenance of power and rule within the republics and principalities. Principalities, he explains,
are hereditary, passed from one generation to the next or they are newly formed (Machiavelli).
Conversely, the English rulers of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would amass great wealth through taxation and continuous fighting between factions. As opposed

Cellular Boundaries Are Permeable
In biology, I learned that cellular boundaries can be permeable. Initially, this concept was
intriguing in and of itself, that cells can release and absorb information to perform necessary
functions. Three years later, that particular biology class and the principle it revealed has held a
place in my mind. The phrase boundaries are permeable returns to my thoughts at odd times, not
always bearing the original scientific connotation. Most often, the phrase returns when there is an
overlap in subject matter, an opportunity to bridge ideas that were previously considered distinct to
respective areas of study. The three words have remained with me, serving to analogize the ability
to effectively apply information across disciplines, something I wish to accomplish on my career
path. In my academic experience, there is a striking difference between the classroom... Show more

A Brief Note On Workforce Injury Or Death
Workforce injury or death In the construction business, health and safety is the most concerning
risk. Working on construction site is very physically demanding job and also very dangerous. There
are many sources of potential danger from injuries caused by working with the tools/material
/equipment, to the fatal accidents caused by negligence. Examples of such an events: falls from
heights, slips from scaffolding, electrocutions, falling objects, explosions, overexertion, vehicle
related accidents... пѓ To control these risks, safety standards have to be met at all times and
monitored frequently. All employees should be trained and informed about Health Safety
standards; supervisors have to be responsible for ensuring safety measures are in place on every
construction site and if something goes wrong, they should be held accountable. Accident and
injury rates should be carefully monitored on regular basis. Examples of simple but crucial
safety rules include: work areas should be clear of obstructions; slippery surfaces should be
reported immediately; safety net should be installed to prevent objects from falling on workers;
all workers should be provided with electrical safety training; visibly mark the area for vehicles
only. As mentioned in the annual report 2015, good practice has already been established on our
sites in order to reduce the health risks defibrillators were provided at as many workplaces as
possible. Failure to win and retain contracts our business

Mythology In Mythology
Judging from the sources on the internet (unfortunately, one of them does include wikipedia) and
the snippets I watched of the PBS documentary series that the book The Power of Myth is a
companion for, one of Joseph s Campbell s most foundational ideas is that mythology is one of
the primary sources of a given generation s cultural values, and it is a mechanism used to teach
lessons or values to those young or new to a society. This thesis on mythology can be adapted to
modern movies on Jesusbecause these movies contain unique alterations and spins on the
religious stories on Jesus. In Godspell, the movie s use of a New York setting and a young,
diverse cast translate the ministry of Jesus to the capitalism and peace struggle of the 1970s, and
in Jesus Christ Superstar, the movie s young cast and secular themed songs translate the existence
of Jesus to a generation becoming more and more scientific. As a result, Godspell remythologizes
the ministry of Jesus to reflect and teach peace and deviation from the status quo, and Jesus Christ
Superstar remythologizes Jesus as a figure to reflect a tension in understanding Jesus in a modern
technological age. Because two different aspects of the 1970s culture is embodied in these modern
Jesus myths, movies are a media used to remythologize Jesus to fit in with each coming generation
s struggles, beliefs, and culture. The aspect of the 1970s that Godspell reflects is the conflict
between peace and the status quo. During the 1970s,

Uncle Wiggily In Connecticut Summary
In the Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut short story, J.D. Salinger, draws a women living a meager life
in despite of her wealth, and the unhappiness of not being a mother even though she has a daughter.
Although this woman demonstrates an icy and bitter relationship to everything around her,
including her descendent, the story s end indicates self awareness and resolution for the protagonist.
Before coming to the very ending it is important to elaborate on some important points acting as
foundation for the optimist interpretation of Eloise s last words. Otherwise it could be interpret
either way.
The story develops two old college friends gathering for a chat, in a week afternoon, talking for
hours straight. During this period there is abusive alcohol consumption, a robust evidence of
personal problems. The conversation evolves around gossip and complains. It is Eloise, the
protagonist, who complains the most throughout the whole story, and about every aspect of her
current life. Including her own daughter, which until that moment she barely considers as her
descendent: I need a cocker spaniel or something (24). Even though the text only brings up the
distinct appearances between them, Eloise believes Ramona is so far apart from her that anything
would be closer to her even a dog.
Furthermore, despite Eloise s wealthy life, with expensive cars, belongs and even a full time maid
who seems to take care of Ramona most of the time, there is robust disappointment with the life

The West Fertilizer Plant Explosion
There are disasters occurring all around the world that most individuals will not hear of due to a
lack of media coverage. Many of these disasters can have incredibly detrimental effects on entire
populations, and those at risk deserve a chance to educate themselves. Two of the disasters found
were the West Fertilizer plant explosion and the increasing rate of acidification of ocean water.
Despite the fact that these disasters pose such incredible dangers, they were found to be among the
least reported on stories amongst media outlets. Although these disasters have not been covered
nearly as much as other major catastrophes, such as hurricane Katrina, they still have far reaching
physical and emotional consequences and have their own unique story. The West Fertilizer
company located in West, Texas was in the business of chemical manufacturing and distribution.
The night of April 17, 2013, an explosion occurred as authorities were attempting to extinguish a
fire that had broken out earlier that day. The primary explosive agent was found to be ammonium
nitrate, a chemical used as fertilizer in agriculture, which West Fertilizer produced. Ammonium
Nitrate is the main component of ANFO, a commonly used explosive mixture, and is often used
by terrorists in the production of improvised explosive devices. The explosion left many injured,
several dead, and caused millions in damages. The oceans cover over 70% of the earth s surface
and hold nearly all of the planet s water, but

This essay discusses Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle and its role in American Mythology.
The characteristics of the story s main characters will be analyzed briefly, as will their effects on

As the story progresses, we that he persistently neglects his responsibilities. He seems to not
even care about his own son, who is said to be a ditto of himself. He often times eludes the
activities that come with keeping a farm, which is obvious because his farm is called the most
pestilent little piece of ground in the whole country (Irving, 64). However horrible his farm
might look, he is liked by everyone in his village, excluding his wife, Dame Van Winkle. He often

wife, who they say died of a broken blood vessel yelling at a New England peddler. Upon hearing
this, Rip feels relief. For it was his wife s shrewish yell that he wanted to get away from.
Furthermore, he realizes that now he is at an acceptable age where his idleness is to be

The Genocide Is The Systematic Extermination Of An Entire...
A genocide is the systematic extermination of an entire social, racial, or political group or nation,
specifically those of a particular ethnicity. While the genocide in Cambodia is not as widely
recognized as that of Rwanda or the Holocaust, millions of Cambodian citizens were murdered
between the years of 1975 and 1979 under the control of the Khmer Rouge. The government
depopulated cities and forcibly relocated citizens to collective farms known as Killing Fields
because of the unspeakable amount of deaths of all ages that occurred there. Approximately 14,000
lives were taken in these fields due to the stringent rules placed upon the citizens. The Khmer
Rouge advocated for social equality and transformed Cambodiainto a pre industrialized nation
centered around agriculture. The loss of millions of lives led to significant demographic changes,
ranging from an increase in the amount of elderly, homeless citizens, and to a decrease in ethnic
diversity across the nation. The dictatorship simultaneously lessened the culture and identity of
coming generations due to the execution of artists and musicians who brought forth important
aspects of tradition. The destruction of infrastructure also contributed to the limitations of postwar
Cambodia. In summary, The Khmer Rouge carried out a genocide that strongly influenced the
demographics, culture, and infrastructure of Cambodian society.

Captain Renault s intonations during the scene reveal suspicions concerning Rick and Ilsa. His
suggestive voice which raises questions about their relationship cultivates an awkward tension
between Rick and Laszlow. Two words in particular, extremely jealous, are delivered with high
intonations and connote suspicion. While the other characters politely try to address each other,
Renault bluntly confronts the mysterious situation between Rick and Ilsa. Renault s costume
reinforces theses scenic anxieties. Dressed in a decorated military uniform, he is a looming
reminder of the war. Renault s presence as an officer symbolizes the forces which have
complicated the situation between Rick, Ilsa, and Laszlow. This coincides with the awkward
tensions his delivery creates. Placement of a decorated officer as the central bearer of tension in
the scene enforces the audience s anxieties with the war and generates sympathy for the Allied

Sustainability and Urban Development
Sustainability and Development
Introduction
Sustainable development and sustainability have been the focus of many researchers in various
disciplines for quite some time now. The current distribution of natural resources and their
allocation is modeled on an infinite growth assumption. The mainstream economic perspective
assumes that the market will allocate resources in the most efficient way possible. Yet there are
many externalities that often left out of this model such as clean air, clean water, and the carrying
capacity of the Earth s natural systems. For example, when someone used oil as a source of fuel,
the pollution from its use is not counted in the standard economic perspective. Furthermore, the fact
that oil is a nonrenewable resource is also not effectively included in these models.
Sustainable development incorporates various social and economic objectives that try to
optimize the use of natural resources in the society. It is a broad topic but is centered on trying to
make the most efficient use of the resources that are available while also ensuring that there are
resources available for future generations. The main objective of sustainable development is to
achieve a reasonable and equitable distribution of resources that can offer a high level of well
being for all generations; those that are currently alive and those are yet to be born. In order to
achieve sustainability, the society and the planet as a whole has to have the regenerative ability to

Thirty Years War 1618 1648 The Thirty Years War brought a lot of devastation to much of Europe

NCAA March Madness
In monumental clashes for the ages, both collegiate men and women s NCAA March Madness
tournaments have provided countless matches, unprecedented athleticism, and glorious victories
paired with heartbreaking defeats. Yet despite their similar structures, the two tournaments have
attained vastly different levels of recognition in the United States. With men s basketball, thousands
of Americans tune in every year to watch the upsets and Final Four games, drooling over perennial
powerhouses such as Duke University, University of Kentucky, and University of Kansas and
unknown underdogs like Butler University, Wichita State University, and Virginia Commonwealth

Sociology professor Michael Messner of the University of Southern California explains that the
media actively constructs audiences that are likely to see the men s Final Four as a dramatic,
historic event that they simply must watch, while fans are likely to see the women s Final Four as
a nonevent or, at best, as just another game of the Men s Final Four (Messner). Messner
emphasizes the differences in language, attention, and emotion in media coverage as the sources of
different representations and viewership. Professor Messner is not the only expert to contend that
purposeful sexism and subtle contrast in media representation are the causes of the inequality in
coverage. Others assert that we need more women on television, in the news, and in front of our
young girls, arguing purposeful disinterest in gender equality is the reason for lack of viewership

The Performance Based Budgeting And The Approach Of...
Hoover Performance Budgeting
Performance based budgeting refers to the approach of allocating funds that link measured results
with policy decisions. It focuses on results and outcomes of programs rather than on the cost of
inputs. It facilitates greater and more scientific accountability for outcomes. Fund allocation is
prioritised based on a program s ability to achieve goals.
Legislative Analyst s Office [1] defines performance based budget as:
... the allocation of resource based on an expectation of performance levels, where performance is
measured in specific, meaningful terms. It differs from the traditional approach to budgeting in that
it focusses on outcomes rather than on inputs or processes. [1]

The Hoover Commission made the following observations for performance budgeting while
recommending overhaul of the nation s budget process:
Under performance budgeting, government departments and agencies would prepare budgets
according to their major functions, activities and projects [8] focusing on the impact of the activity
or service instead of things to be acquired [8]
These budget reforms aimed to provide holistic information about programs and activities based on
measurement of ultimate impact of outcomes through parameters that measured effectiveness and
efficiency of operations. Thus the question of optimal utilization of resources and whether the
government is allocating them accordingly was to be addressed by this reform.
The Commission recommendations on performance budgeting requirements (HPB) were
implemented through two legislations: The National Security Act Amendments (1949) and the
Budgeting and Accounting Procedures Act (BAPA), 1950 that prescribed a less prescriptive
definition of performance budgeting that instituted country wide adoption of this budget technique.
Elements of Hover Performance Budgeting (HPB)
Performance measurement based processes require certain elements as prerequisite in each of the
four stages viz proposal; negotiation and approval; execution and reporting. To be meaningful,
performance measurement in budgeting must be reflected in each stage

Persuasive Essay On Why We Dream
In my paper I will ask exactly what it is to dream and give my best explanation based on what
others have learned and I have gathered on the subject. Even though scientists may not have
many ways of researching how and why we dream today with our current technology we can
however talk to the people who dream and study brain activity. In this paper I will address the
research I have conducted on why we dream. As of right now scientists are all puzzled by this
question. Partly because the technology we need in order to pinpoint a specific answer isn t
developed at the current moment. However, through psychological and behavioral research we
can come to means with several theories as to why we do dream. Whether it is the unconscious
desires we get to experience at night or the molded slice of pizza we had for dinner before we
went to bed. Many of the scientist that are currently working on this dilemma have asked some
of the same questions. Like: what is dreaming, how does dreaming work, what causes bad
dreams or nightmares, and how can we conduct research to find out? As of right now no one
knows and there isn t an easy answer. However I can explain the stages of sleep and how they
affect us and when we dream. Due to the lack of technology today no answer will come easy.
However with enough persistence we may be able to establish a pattern and put meaning to them.
Researchers working with neurologists have already started taking dreams and converting them to

The Doors Biography Essays
The Doors Biography
From their beginnings during the summer of 1965 at Venice Beach, California, The Doors were a
band of creative energy, with most of the focus on Jim Morrison. His looks and talents clearly tell
why. Jim was well aware that the magic of The Doors could never have happened without the
fortunate talents of John Densmore, Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. Robby
Krieger, for example, wrote lyrics and music that sounded a lot like Morrison s work, such songs
as quot;Light My Fire, quot; quot;Love Me Two Times, quot; and quot;Love Her Madly. quot;
There are many that think Jim was the only creative poet in the band, when in fact there were two.

By April 1971, The Doors had recorded six landmark studio LP s and a two record set of live
performances. The first seven discs with producer Paul A. Rothchild and the last one co produced
by The Doors and their career long engineer Bruce Botnick. The Doors and Elektra had grown into
world famed institutions.
The band s un stated goal was to accomplish musical alchemy, to fuse rock music with both existent
poetry and improvisational theater. Jim was influenced by the nineteenth century poet Arthur
Rimbaud and he dutifully imparted Rimbaud s philosophy to the group. Rimbaud advocated a
systematic quot;rational derangement of all the senses in order to achieve the unknown. quot;
Morrison was a man who would not, could not, and did not know how to compromise himself or
his art. He was driven to go all the way or die trying, the ultimate ecstatic risk taker. Manzarek,
Krieger and Densmore s contribution to this state of creative bliss cannot be underestimated. Jim

Jim s unplanned creativity perfectly in one of the music s classic and most difficult feats the art of

An OnDemand system has one library server and one or more object servers. An object server can
operate on the same server or node as the library server or on a different server or node than the
library server.
OnDemand client programs operate on personal computers running on Windows. Using the client
program, users can construct queries and search for reports, retrieve documents from OnDemand,
view, print, and fax copies or pages of documents, and attach electronic notes to pages of a
document. OnDemand servers manage control information and index data, store and retrieve
documents and resource group files, and process query requests from OnDemand client programs.
The documents can reside on disk, optical, and tape storage volumes.
When a user submits a query, the client program sends a search request to the OnDemand library
server. The library server returns a list of the documents that match the query to the user. When the
user selects a document for viewing, the client program retrieves a copy of the document from the
object server where the document is stored, opens a viewing window, and displays the document.

Cyberbullying And Its Effect On Society
About 97% of today s youth are connected to the internet in some way, and about 20 40% have
experienced some form of cyberbullying at least once.1 This means that about 200 400 million
people between the age of 15 and 24 have been cyberbullied. Cyberbullying has been an issue
since the internet was first introduced for public use, and it is still a rising issue today. That is
why it is our job to fix it.
What is cyberbullying? you may be wondering. According to Dictionary.com, cyberbullying is
the act of harassing someone online by sending or posting mean messages, usually anonymously
.2 A strong example of cyberbullying would be a scenario in which someone at a school or place
of work were to get a hold of someone s phone number, and repeatedly send them mean or
intimidating texts that cause them to become stressed, worried, angry, depressed, or even suicidal,
overall having a significant negative effect on their work ethic. Another example of cyberbullying
would be if someone were to take an embarrassing photo or video of a peer and spread it around
through online social media, causing people to make fun of that person, or even bully them more,
and overall resulting in significant negative effects on their daily life and reputation, and
sometimes, in rare cases, suicide. While cyberbullying is less frequent than traditional bullying,3 it
is still a major issue for people worldwide, especially youth. Studies have shown that over half of
school students are bully

The Importance Of Racing Within The Car Industry
The importance of racing within the car industry
So for years now, the car industry has been evolving. While it is getting bigger and bigger, it is
also branching off to many other sub industries. Among those industries, one of the most popular
is the racing one. It has been evolving since it has started. And to say that it is very popular in
this generation would be a huge understatement. Even while it is an industry of its own (Racing
industry), it still has many different branches. For instance, when we talk about racing, we can
have an endless discussion about how many different kinds there are. On the legal side of racing,
we have organized activities such as NASCAR racing events, but if we want to talk about illegal
racing ways, we can talk about street racing or drag racing on local streets. This however, will be
discussed in the main part of this paper. So before getting into the meat of this paper which is the
driving question ( Why is racing important in the car industry? ) We need to answer why talking
about his is important to know about. So, why is this topic crucial to know about? Well for starters,
racing has become one of the most popular activates that most teenage boys and professionals
partake in. other than that, racing brings one of the biggest revenues economically to the table.
Now this means better improvements in the car industry as a whole. While we are talking about
improvements to the car industry, we can certainly talk about how sport and

The Overlooked Issue of Cervical Cancer Essay example
Cervical cancer has a major impact on women s lives; it is the second most common cause of
cancer related diseases and death among women worldwide. According to the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention (2010), cervical cancer is the cancer that forms in tissues of the cervix. The
cervix is the lower, narrow end of the uterus that connects the vagina to the upper part of the uterus.
Cervical canceris a slow growing cancer that may not cause any symptoms at first but may cause
pelvic pain or bleeding from the vagina later. It is mostly caused by a human papillomavirus(HPV)
infection. HPV is a common virus that is passed from one person to another during sexual activity
(Center for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2010).

The rate is more than twice of what is seen in non Hispanic white women. African American women
develop cervical cancer about 50% more often than non Hispanic white women. Besides ethnicity,
other factors that can increase the risk of getting cervical cancer are smoking, using birth control
pills for a long time, and having multiple sex partners (CDC, 2010).
2 Pertinent issues on the delivery of healthcare related to cervical cancer The two main issues
that affect the delivery of healthcare related to prevention and early detection of cervical cancer
are finance and the lack of awareness. Financial issues play a major role in whether or not
women are screened or vaccinated for cervical cancer. The ACS (2010) reported that uninsured
women are less likely to acquire screenings or vaccines. However, many states tried to solve the
financial problem by ensuring that private insurance companies, Medicaid, and public employee
health plans will provide coverage and reimbursement for Pap smear screening tests. The ACS
supported such coverage assurances because they removed financial barriers for women who have
health insurance, but whose insurance plans previously did not cover Pap smears (ACS, 2010). The
lack of awareness about cervical cancer is another contributing factor besides financial concerns.

You just can t age 50% more whiskey for the same amount of money. * The inventoryaccount can
only be charged with those costs associated with the direct production of whiskey, and our
warehousing costs are handling or carrying costs, certainly not production costs. * The
manufacturing process doesn t stop with the newly produced bourbon; why it isn t even
marketable in that form. Aging is an absolutely essential part of the manufacturing process, and I
think the cost of barrels and part of the warehouse labor should be treated as direct costs of the
product. * Warehousing and aging costs are an absolutely essential ingredient of our final
product. * Direct costs are those costs that are necessary to convert raw materials into the
whiskey that goes into the aging barrels. * This is our cost of approximately $1 per gallon and
includes the cost of raw materials going into the product such as grain, yeast, and malt; the direct
labor necessary to convert these materials into whiskey; and the cost of any other overhead items
that are needed to permit the workers to convert grain into whiskey.
The Problem
The main issue at Daniel Dobbins Distillery, Inc. is a disagreement among the senior management
with regards to the allocation of costs. Specifically, it is a question of whether to include Ageing
Costs, Cost of Barrels, and Warehouse Expense as a part of inventory (in which case it

Five of these people died and two required liver transplants after taking the drug. In 2003, a

The vaccine had cured Alzheimer s mice but when given to humans, it led to brain inflammation.
Another example includes Vioxx, an arthritis drug tested on animals, which was reported to have

experimentation harmed human lives, but also potentially caused us to ignore real cures. Drugs
that fail in animal testing are discarded of. When drugs are disposed of it could cause us to
potentially ignore real cures. For instance, the drug Aspirin. Aspirin is one of our most relied upon
pain relievers. When given to mice, rats, dogs, cats, rabbits or monkeys: Aspirin causes teratogenic

Hearing Lips And Seeing Voices By Harry Mcgurk
Multi sensory integration is a process in which sensory input from one sense organ interacts with
and influences how other sense organs process this same input, and how these inputs combine to
produce a cohesive and unified perceptual experience (Talsma, Senkowski, Soto Faraco, and
Woldorff, 2010). A prime example of multi sensory integration is the process of speech perception
which combines auditory and visual inputs to form a cohesive and comprehensive speech percept
(Nath and Beauchamp, 2012). In their 1976 article Hearing Lips and Seeing Voices , Harry

These McGurk and MacDonald studies were the first to demonstrate that visual stimuli can modify
speech perception when it is presented simultaneously with incongruent auditory stimuli. These
findings contested the traditional assumption that speech perception in face to face conversation
was a unimodal, rather than multi sensory process, that is, a strictly auditory process that was
independent of visual input (McGurk and MacDonald, 1976; Rouger, Fraysse, Degunie and
Barone, 2007; MacDonald and McGurk, 1978). Although McGurk and McDonald provided
valuable insight into the role of visual processes in speech perception, their initial studies did have
some limitations, for example, their manner place hypothesis failed to provide a comprehensive
theory of the cognitive processes involved in producing the McGurk effect. They also failed to
measure their participant s lipreading performances prior to conducting their study and thus, this
potential confounding variable was not taken into consideration. Furthermore, McGurk and
MacDonald failed to explain why up to one third of their participants did not experience the
McGurk effect at all.

The Chinese People s Liberation Army Essay
The Chinese People s Liberation Army: Ground Forces (PLAGF) began a massive military
modernization in the 1980 s and they have been continually reforming their training and education
of their ground forces ever since. Senior officials within the People s Liberation Army recognized
that improving the militaryskills and raising the education levels of both officers and troops alike
were necessary prerequisites if they wanted to be able to utilize more advanced weaponry and fight
in this day and age.
During the modernization of the People s Liberation Army funding was increased for military
education, the study of foreign militaries was incorporated into their training curriculum and
contacts with foreign military academies was increased. The leadership of the PLA focused their
education reforms on the military academy system. They also changed the scope of their training
from being highly politicized and emphasized in single unit infantry troop training, to concentrating
on training officers capable of directing combined arms warfare.
The Revival of the military academies system began in 1978, which the Cultural Revolution had

This rather abstract notion of phenomenal consciousness is simplified to the term P consciousness .
P consciousness is phenomenal experience. Everything that P consciousness can be is, in turn,
everything that experience can be. It is the matter of when we utilize our senses (see, hear, smell,

reflection through sensations, thoughts, or emotions. All of these actions are continuously
occurring with or without the intention of doing so. P consciousness is always representational of
the information derived from the event being experienced. Contrarily, Access Consciousness is

Because She Looks Like A Child Summary
Because She Looks Like a Child, written by Kevin Bales, focuses on Siri, a fifteen year old girl
living in Thailand, who was sold into prostitution by her father. Once the brothel took her in, Siri
was informed she owed 200,000 baht and that she owed 30,000 baht per month for living expenses.
Though prostitutionis illegal Kevin Bales explains that this is very common in Thailand. Their
fathers out of debt bondage or to be able to afford modern conveniences such as color televisions
and video equipment sell thousands of young girls into prostitution. It is stated that directly
enslaving girls through kidnapping is unnecessarily as village families are readily willing to sell
their young daughters. The girls, who are sold, go to the brothels voluntarily as they are
completely unaware of what they will be doing once they reach their destinations. The living
conditions are terrible for these young girls and they have little chance of paying off their debt.

willing to sell their daughters just to boost their statuses in their society. The clear socioeconomic

Compare And Contrast Arizona And Virginia
Where to live? This is a question many people ask themselves, but narrow it down to two states
such as Virginia and Arizona. While on the surface, Arizona and Virginia are beautiful states that
most people would love to live in. But both states have their drawbacks from weather to the size of
their state and population and politics. In another light they both have quite a few number of
benefits such as accessibility and law enforcement. First most, Arizona is known as one of the
hottest states with temperatures sometimes reaching 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature has
been proven to be able to cook food items such as eggs and cookie dough. In addition to having hot
weather, during summer Arizona begins its monsoon season with heavy winds and occasional rain.

Arizona comes in at 113, 998 mi2 and Virginia pales in comparison by 42,775 mi2. While
Virginia is smaller size, the population size comes in at 8.412 million people. Especially due to
weather, Arizona only has 6.931 million people residing in the state. Furthermore, agriculturally,
Arizona is mainly famous for growing cotton and their 5 C s: cotton, cattle, citrus, cattle, and
copper. In contrast, Virginia is widely known for growing tobacco. In addition, both states grow
marijuana which rakes in more cash than other cash crops. Equally important, Arizona and
Virginia are blessed with access to multiple utilities which are usually taken for granted. They
have access to clean water, electricity, internet, cell service, and much more. Also, they have
access to modern medical facilities for humans and animals. While they may be similar in
accessibility, the median cost of homes differentiates significantly. The median costs of homes in
Arizona are about $223,700. This comes to about $142 per square foot. In Virginia, the median
cost of homes increases to $299,999 and about $153 per square

Adolf Hitler s Influence On His Deeds During World War...
Hitler
Adolf Hitler has the image of having a ruthless evil character from his deeds during world war
two. However evidences show that he was not a terribly evil person, but a normal person with
large ambitions. Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King wrote in his journal after meeting with
Adolf Hitler that, he is really one who truly loves his fellow men, and his country, and would make
any sacrifice for their good...a man of deep sincerity and a genuine patriot, which all shows he was
naturally a good person with a genuine ambition of wanting to create a better environment for
himself and the country. In January 1933, Adolf Hitlercame to power in Germany and immediately
began to challenge the Treaty of Versailles and adapt an aggressive foreign policy, which led to war
.
It is not hard to blame Adolf Hitler for starting the war, however looking at evidences show that he
was naturally a good person that was not taught or at the very least did not bother to realize the
importance of learning to control his ambitions to not reach the level of selfish greediness. Hence
ambition is needed to proceed forward but the control of it must be taught to refrain from these
event occurring.
Napoleon
Napoleon was very ambitious to the point where it was greedy as shown in history books of his
many battles. The historians hold divergent views regarding the motives behind these battles.
According to them his chief motives for his wars are dynastic advancement, high ambition,
influence of

no true distinctions between neighborhoods within the town of Lexington. Upon touring the town,
one cannot distinguish a particularly impoverished area. Along main roads such as Emmanuel

communities next to mobile home parks. Although each type of household is in essence separated
from each other, they are not isolated from each other. They can shop at the same supermarkets and

Jesse Commitment To A Good Role Model
According to the supplemental material, commitment is the degree of personal investment one
expresses in exploring one s choices. Therefore, Jesse is committed to her faith and religion
since she was a little girl. Jesse s environment throughout her adolescents displayed negative
examples of ambition. She did not grow up with positive role models aiding her throughout her
path in life. Jesse had always planned high goals for herself and whenever she experienced an
obstacle, her religious belief helped her through it. Whenever she had to choose between two
things she always went to her religion for an answer. She grew closer to her faith the older she
became. For example, she stated, As I grew older, my love and respect for people and my faith

The Devil Wears Prada Analysis
Have you ever been intimidated by someone merely by their presence? What is making their
presence intimidating, even if they haven t said anything? This situation would be primarily due to
their body language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of
communication revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal
cues can be seen in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.
An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular fashion magazine as
Meryl Streep s aka Miranda Priestly s aka the devil s assistant. She has to deal with the devils
difficult demands and trying to fit into this new world she had mocked before; as she proves, and
seemingly loses, herself she must decide what she really wants and how to deal with Miranda.
This movie contains many examples of nonverbal language, making it hard to narrow down. In the
end I chose the three things I thought had the most prevalence in the movie: Influencing others
/body movement, the ambiguous nature of nonverbal, and managing impressions
Influencing Others/Physical Attractiveness How we look, act, and sound to others
After a while of working there, Andy starts wearing more fashionable clothes and changes her hair
/makeup. Along with this, as she gets more accustomed and comfortable with her job she gets more
confidence in her body movements. One particular scene about 30 minutes into the movie, Andy
walks into the office very confidently and

  • 2. The Grapes of Wrath Essays The Grapes of Wrath The Grapes of Wrath is set in the horrible stage of our American history, the Depression. Economic, social, and historical surroundings separate the common man of America into basically the rich and poor. A basic theme is that man turns against one another in a selfish pride to only protect themselves. For example, the landowners create a system in which migrants are treated like animals and pushed along from one roadside camp to the next. They are denied decent wages and forced to turn against their fellow scramblers to simply survive. The Grapes of Wrath tells the story of two types of families in that the Joads are a factual one and the body of migrant workers as the other. The Joads are actual blood... Jim is much more of a talker and idealist, and he actually puts what he preached into action. Jim Casy is frequently compared with Jesus Christ and his lifestyle of preaching and leading people. As well as sacrificing himself for Tom and the Joad family which upholds his common held belief. Tom carries Jim s message after his death and aids others with it. The Joad family, along with Jim Casy, shows the benefit of people uniting in order to accomplish goals and this is a lesson that the reader can take away from this novel. The setting is so important to the novel because it sets the role and background of the characters. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tribals ii.Problems of assimilation with the non tribal People: The indigenous people of the Dooars were the Koch Rajbanshis, the Mech, the Rabhas and the Lepchas. They were well dependent on their traditional village economy of agriculture, hunting, fishing, and forest based economy. After the introduction of tea plantation in Dooars, the planters encouraged the immigration of the Nepalese, and then the tea planters decided to bring labourers from the Santal Parganas and Chhotonagpur plateau. In the second part of nineteenth century, a large number of tribal people mainly of Oraons, Santals, Mundas and Malpaharis in migrated to the Dooars. Again after the partition of the country in 1947, and emergence of Bangladesh in 1971, streams of immigration or infiltration from East Pakistan and Bangladesh occurred in the areas. The immigrated Bangladeshi people occupied a vast areas in almost everywhere. Thus the Dooars grew into a new hub of multi racial and multi lingual people, and of course, this led the demographic and cultural environment to be too complex for the future. iii.Loss of Control over Natural Resources: Before coming of the British, the tribals enjoyed unhindered rights of ownership and management over natural resources like land, forests, wildlife water, soil, fishes etc. Indigenous peoples have an intuitive relationship with nature, a wealth of traditional knowledge, and have used natural resources for their livelihood. Whether it is providing relief from disasters, aiding the less fortunate nationally and internationally or saving lives with their blood program, the Red Cross has always been there to help the world become a safer place to live in. Most recently, this organization has had a strong impact in the recovery of Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Isaac, providing food and water, multiple shelters for people that have lost their homes and even counseling during such a devastating time ( Top 20 Accomplishments ). It can t be disputed that since its inception, the Red Cross has had a lasting impact on the overall well being of American citizens, instilling confidence in them that if a disaster does strike in their lives, the Red Cross is there to ease the pain a bit. However, much like any other organization, the Red Cross has had its fair share of flaws and mishaps. A crucial mistake in the business world may result in a substantial loss of money or even a sentence to prison. Unfortunately for the Red Cross, everything they do and participate in deals with the lives of everyday individuals. The two articles are very similar and different at the same time, while together rhetorically appealing to the logos. Combined they give a good background on teenage binge drinking. Both articles have many similarities; both agree that binge drinking is a problem among adolescents across the country. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was written to give suggestions on how to lower the amount of teenage binge drinking. One solution that Middlebury College in Vermont has thought of would be to lower the drinking age. This technique would be useful because kids would be able to drink in more open environments and not have to hide what they are inevitably going to do. This is productive because in the open environments, they can be monitored and if anything goes wrong a responsible person will be there to help. This idea of an 18 year old drinking age is not too plausible because if a state were to lower the drinking age, the federal government would take away millions of dollars in highway funding. The federal government has good reason to take away funding. This is because The University of Michigan conducted a study when the drinking age was raised from 18 to 21 years old, in the early 1980 s. The study found that, The change also contributed to a 58% drop in alcohol related deaths among 15 to 20 year olds since 1982 (Kluger, p.43). According to Getting Stupid the reason why so many adolescent kids binge drink is because when they are drunk, dopamine is released in the prefrontal cortex, which gives you a feeling of pleasure. Teens want this pleasure to reoccur, so they drink again. After a long period of usage a tolerance is built and more alcohol is needed to receive the same pleasure, which leads to binge drinking (Wuethrich, p.62). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Mythology In Mythology Judging from the sources on the internet (unfortunately, one of them does include wikipedia) and the snippets I watched of the PBS documentary series that the book The Power of Myth is a companion for, one of Joseph s Campbell s most foundational ideas is that mythology is one of the primary sources of a given generation s cultural values, and it is a mechanism used to teach lessons or values to those young or new to a society. This thesis on mythology can be adapted to modern movies on Jesusbecause these movies contain unique alterations and spins on the religious stories on Jesus. In Godspell, the movie s use of a New York setting and a young, diverse cast translate the ministry of Jesus to the capitalism and peace struggle of the 1970s, and in Jesus Christ Superstar, the movie s young cast and secular themed songs translate the existence of Jesus to a generation becoming more and more scientific. As a result, Godspell remythologizes the ministry of Jesus to reflect and teach peace and deviation from the status quo, and Jesus Christ Superstar remythologizes Jesus as a figure to reflect a tension in understanding Jesus in a modern technological age. Because two different aspects of the 1970s culture is embodied in these modern Jesus myths, movies are a media used to remythologize Jesus to fit in with each coming generation s struggles, beliefs, and culture. • 19. Sustainability and Urban Development Sustainability and Development Introduction Sustainable development and sustainability have been the focus of many researchers in various disciplines for quite some time now. The current distribution of natural resources and their allocation is modeled on an infinite growth assumption. The mainstream economic perspective assumes that the market will allocate resources in the most efficient way possible. Yet there are many externalities that often left out of this model such as clean air, clean water, and the carrying capacity of the Earth s natural systems. For example, when someone used oil as a source of fuel, the pollution from its use is not counted in the standard economic perspective. Furthermore, the fact that oil is a nonrenewable resource is also not effectively included in these models. Sustainable development incorporates various social and economic objectives that try to optimize the use of natural resources in the society. It is a broad topic but is centered on trying to make the most efficient use of the resources that are available while also ensuring that there are resources available for future generations. The main objective of sustainable development is to achieve a reasonable and equitable distribution of resources that can offer a high level of well being for all generations; those that are currently alive and those are yet to be born. Messner emphasizes the differences in language, attention, and emotion in media coverage as the sources of different representations and viewership. Professor Messner is not the only expert to contend that purposeful sexism and subtle contrast in media representation are the causes of the inequality in coverage. The Hoover Commission made the following observations for performance budgeting while recommending overhaul of the nation s budget process: Under performance budgeting, government departments and agencies would prepare budgets according to their major functions, activities and projects [8] focusing on the impact of the activity or service instead of things to be acquired [8] These budget reforms aimed to provide holistic information about programs and activities based on measurement of ultimate impact of outcomes through parameters that measured effectiveness and efficiency of operations. Thus the question of optimal utilization of resources and whether the government is allocating them accordingly was to be addressed by this reform. The Commission recommendations on performance budgeting requirements (HPB) were implemented through two legislations: The National Security Act Amendments (1949) and the Budgeting and Accounting Procedures Act (BAPA), 1950 that prescribed a less prescriptive definition of performance budgeting that instituted country wide adoption of this budget technique. Even though scientists may not have many ways of researching how and why we dream today with our current technology we can however talk to the people who dream and study brain activity. In this paper I will address the research I have conducted on why we dream. As of right now scientists are all puzzled by this question. Partly because the technology we need in order to pinpoint a specific answer isn t developed at the current moment. However, through psychological and behavioral research we can come to means with several theories as to why we do dream. Whether it is the unconscious desires we get to experience at night or the molded slice of pizza we had for dinner before we went to bed. Many of the scientist that are currently working on this dilemma have asked some of the same questions. Like: what is dreaming, how does dreaming work, what causes bad dreams or nightmares, and how can we conduct research to find out? As of right now no one knows and there isn t an easy answer. However I can explain the stages of sleep and how they affect us and when we dream. Due to the lack of technology today no answer will come easy. Hearing Lips And Seeing Voices By Harry Mcgurk Multi sensory integration is a process in which sensory input from one sense organ interacts with and influences how other sense organs process this same input, and how these inputs combine to produce a cohesive and unified perceptual experience (Talsma, Senkowski, Soto Faraco, and Woldorff, 2010). A prime example of multi sensory integration is the process of speech perception which combines auditory and visual inputs to form a cohesive and comprehensive speech percept (Nath and Beauchamp, 2012). • 42. Adolf Hitler s Influence On His Deeds During World War... Hitler Adolf Hitler has the image of having a ruthless evil character from his deeds during world war two. However evidences show that he was not a terribly evil person, but a normal person with large ambitions. Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King wrote in his journal after meeting with Adolf Hitler that, he is really one who truly loves his fellow men, and his country, and would make any sacrifice for their good...a man of deep sincerity and a genuine patriot, which all shows he was naturally a good person with a genuine ambition of wanting to create a better environment for himself and the country. In January 1933, Adolf Hitlercame to power in Germany and immediately began to challenge the Treaty of Versailles and adapt an aggressive foreign policy, which led to war . It is not hard to blame Adolf Hitler for starting the war, however looking at evidences show that he was naturally a good person that was not taught or at the very least did not bother to realize the importance of learning to control his ambitions to not reach the level of selfish greediness. Hence ambition is needed to proceed forward but the control of it must be taught to refrain from these event occurring. Napoleon Napoleon was very ambitious to the point where it was greedy as shown in history books of his many battles. The historians hold divergent views regarding the motives behind these battles. According to them his chief motives for his wars are dynastic advancement, high ambition, influence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, Jesse is committed to her faith and religion since she was a little girl. Jesse s environment throughout her adolescents displayed negative examples of ambition. She did not grow up with positive role models aiding her throughout her path in life. Jesse had always planned high goals for herself and whenever she experienced an obstacle, her religious belief helped her through it. Whenever she had to choose between two things she always went to her religion for an answer. She grew closer to her faith the older she became. • 46. The Devil Wears Prada Analysis Have you ever been intimidated by someone merely by their presence? What is making their presence intimidating, even if they haven t said anything? This situation would be primarily due to their body language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of communication revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal cues can be seen in the movie The Devil Wears Prada. An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular fashion magazine as Meryl Streep s aka Miranda Priestly s aka the devil s assistant. She has to deal with the devils difficult demands and trying to fit into this new world she had mocked before; as she proves, and seemingly loses, herself she must decide what she really wants and how to deal with Miranda. This movie contains many examples of nonverbal language, making it hard to narrow down. In the end I chose the three things I thought had the most prevalence in the movie: Influencing others /body movement, the ambiguous nature of nonverbal, and managing impressions Influencing Others/Physical Attractiveness How we look, act, and sound to others After a while of working there, Andy starts wearing more fashionable clothes and changes her hair /makeup. Along with this, as she gets more accustomed and comfortable with her job she gets more confidence in her body movements. One particular scene about 30 minutes into the movie, Andy walks into the office very confidently and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
