This document evaluates biodiesel as a promising alternate fuel for compression ignition engines, highlighting its potential to reduce emissions and provide energy security as petroleum reserves decline. It reviews various production methods for biodiesel, such as transesterification, and compares the performance and emissions of biodiesel blends with conventional diesel. The findings show that biodiesel offers similar properties to diesel with minimal engine modifications but can lead to differences in performance metrics and emissions that vary by blend and operating conditions.
