Essay about Conflict Resolution
Conflict Resolution
Many people enjoy working or participating in a group or team, but when a group of people work
together chances are that conflicts will occur. Hazleton describes conflict as the discrepancy between
what is the perceived reality and what is seen as ideal (2007). We enter into conflicts reluctantly,
cautiously, angrily, nervously, confidently and emerge from them battered, exhausted, sad, satisfied,
triumphant. And still many of us underestimate or overlook the merits of conflict the opportunity
conflict offers every time it occurs (Schilling, nd.). Conflict does not have to lead to a hostile
environment or to broken relationships. Conflict if resolved effectively can lead to a positive
experience for everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keeping all these in mind can lead to the best solution to solve the conflict.
Change and Expectations People do not always adjust well to change. Oftentimes when change
occurs, conflict will arise. The new boss on the job or the new member of the team may be the change
that brings a conflict. Expectations if not set clearly and held to standard can also lead to conflict
among the team. Expectations must be set from the beginning. Expectations must also be clear and it
must be verified that each team member understands the expectations. If a short coming on the
expectations occurs, then action must be taken immediately. If no action is taken this could be
understood as silent approval and team members will believe that the expectation is no longer
important or required. When conflict does occur, the five models set out in The Thomas Kilmann
Conflict Mode Instrument sets the standards for resolving the conflict. Avoidance Avoidance is
defined as an act or practice of avoiding or withdrawing from something (Merriam Webster.com).
Avoidance may not be the answer if the conflict directly affects the team or the team s goal. Avoidance
is usually used when the conflict is irrelevant, relationships are at stake, more important issues are
pressing, when one party is more emotionally involved, or when more information is needed
(Culbertson, 2000). In avoidance the parties involved agree to place

Difference between Good Samaritan rule and the American bystander rule 1
What is the Good Samaritan rule and when does it apply. A Good Samaritan is an individual who
usually goes out of their way to help someone or somebody in a time of need. This can be carried out
in the time of an emergency on a voluntary basis. Under this rule a person is not legally obligated to
render aid to someone unless they are in unconscious state and cannot respond.
Another fact about this rule is that in some states they will grant you immunity to good Samaritans,

Daniel Character Study Essay
The definition of faith is the persuasion of the mind that a certain statement is true. Its primary idea is
trust. It admits of many degrees up to full assurance of faith, in accordance with the evidence on
which it rests. Daniel was the epitome of trusting God and of being faithful. He showed confidence,
trust, and reliance in God by his convictions and beliefs in obeying the law. Daniel, David s second
son by Abigail the Carmelitess, A descendant of a Levite from the family of Ithamar a noble family of
Judah and probably born in Jerusalem about 623 b.c. during the reign of Josiah. One of the four great
prophets of the time of Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus. The hero and author of the Book of Daniel

At the end of his training for service to the king, he was distinguished for his wisdom and brought into
public life. Daniel s first accomplishment is denying sharing the king s food. Feeling he would defile
his body if he ate the king s food or drank his wine, he was permitted to drink water and eat
vegetables. Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar s first dream of a statue made of four metals (Dan 2:1
49). When Daniel was finished, King Nebuchadnezzar fell down before him and said, Of a truth ...
your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets (Dan 2:46, 47). He then
interpreted a second dream of Nebuchadnezzar, (Dan 4:8 27) about a great tree, which was a sign of
the king becoming insane. The fulfillment of this dream is what converted the king to worship God.
He was called upon to explain the handwriting on the wall that disturbed the feast of Belshazzar (Dan
5:10 28). This foretold the end of the Babylonian empire and the coming of the Medes. For his
service, he was awarded a purple robe and appointed as one of three governors over the kingdom (Dan
6:1 2). While in the service of the new king Darius, he was thrown into the lions den for praying to
any god except Darius (Dan 6:10 23). Daniel was delivered from the lions den and Darius made a
proclamation for all to magnify Daniel s God. He prospered in the reign of Darius. He had a series of
prophetic visions, which opened up the prospect of a

Cause And Effects Of Tsunami In Japan
In March of 2011, a magnitude 9 earthquake hit Japan, releasing a dangerous tsunami. Japan was not
expecting the magnitude of the earthquake and tsunami, and endured much hardship after the disaster.
The effects of the tsunami can still be seen in Japan today through its residents, economy, and through
actions that have been taken to further protect residents from future disasters. Though the Japan 2011
tsunami is one of the most destructive tsunamis ever recorded, dangerous tsunamis continue to take
place across the globe. The Japan 2011 tsunami not only affected the inhabitants of Japan, but also
affected people around the world. After disasters such as this, each area must endure the aftermath of
the disaster and recover from the effects.
A tsunami is a series of huge waves occurring when there is a major disturbance on the ocean floor.
Tsunamis often occur due to earthquakes, volcanoes, or landslides (Park 16). Underwater earthquakes
may produce waves that travel in all different directions. Some tsunamis lose power and die out under
water, others may produce large waves as they approach land. Tsunamis may look like an onrushing
tidal wave as they approach land, but do not occur because of tides (Park 6). Their walls of water can
move across the open ocean at speeds of up to 560 miles per hour. When the waves hit the coast, they
can reach up to 100 feet (Park 5). The tsunami in Japan is believed to have occurred after two of Earth

Sacrifice In Joan Aiken s Third Wish
Why would someone sacrifice their faith? In the Third Wish by Joan Aiken Mr.Peter has to take a lot
of faith to make other people happy, he sacrificed a lot but he still makes people happy, which is not
always easy. Mr. Peter drove his car, then found a swan . He got three wishes in the forest his first
wish that the swan gave him a wife. The second wish that he used to find his wife s sister. He did not
want to use his third wish and he lived a very happy life. The Third wish by Joan Aiken shows us the
face and sacrifice can lead us to happiness or unhappiness.
I first saw the theme in the Third Wish when Mr. Peter goes out helps to swan. First, when Mr. Peters
gets out of his car and goes and helps this swan. First,

How Did Benjamin Franklin Impact Society
Franklin s Impact on the Eighteenth Century In Poor Richard s Almanack, Franklin once wrote, God
helps them that help themselves (Clark 6). Benjamin Franklin, America s past printer, publisher,
scientist, and inventor, followed this philosophy of life throughout the century of the Enlightenment
(Wilson 204). He not only shared his perspectives with the world, but he shared his discoveries, as
well. Franklin improved his society s life in a variety of ways. Franklin impacted the eighteenth
century by making scientific discoveries, sharing his philosophy in the Enlightenment, and
establishing social and political improvements for the American colonies. To begin with, Franklin was
born on January seventeenth, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts (Labaree xiii). Even with only two years
of schooling, Franklin devoted himself to reading and learning at a young age (Fleming 15). He was
interested in poetry as a child and even published one of his own. As he grew older, Franklin was
inspired by what he had read about the philosopher, Socrates. Franklin used his questioning tactics to
figure out his own logical reasoning and beliefs (Kurland 4 5). At just age nine, Franklin was
persuaded to sign a contract to be an apprentice printer to his ... Show more content on

Argumentative Essay On Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy and radiation are the two most common types of cancer treatments. Chemotherapy is a
treatment where cancer patients are given specifically designed drugs that kill cancer cells. Radiation
or radiotherapy is a treatment where cancerous tumors are targeted by high doses of radiation in order
to damage the cell s DNA, causing it to die. While radiation and chemo may be effective on their own,
an oncologist may recommend a combination of the two for patients who have an advanced stage
cancer. People who have been a patient of cancer, no matter what age, can give the best advice and
insight to a topic many know nothing about.
Developed in the early 20th century, chemotherapy was not originally intended to be a cancer
treatment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Social Media
In society today, we as a whole have replaced communicating face to face and have switched to
expressing our ideas behind a screen. Because of this, a good number of arguments have arose from
post and publications that state someone s opinion about an issue. One of the most highly used forms
of media in our world today is social media, which are websites and technological apps that enable a
person or group to create their own websites and pages for a specific purpose. Social media creates a
second world where people can communicate with others across the world in a matter of seconds.
Whenever you have a large collection of people in the same area, each stating their arguments and
sides to something, there are going to be conflicting sides to every situation. Another way of
describing the word argument is by using the words ethos, pathos, and logos. These three words are
used when arguing on social media every single day. Ethos, which is the credibility and expertise that
a person has on a specific topic, is used in arguments for appealing to people who are interested in
their product or service. Imagine that John is trying to purchase medication for his diabetes. He has
found two types of medication online. One is found on a Facebook page by a random person with no
knowledge of medicine, and the other is found on a doctor s website. The doctor has 28 years of
experience of taking care of patients and has went to school 8 years prior to those 28 years. Obviously

The Role Of Media And Its Functionality
Introduction
In an effort to understand the media and its functionality, it is my belief that one needs to go back to
inception to get a fair understanding. The twentieth century was an era that saw an explosion of mass
media however, prior to the late 1980s; the only form of mass media that was prominent of that time
was literature. It was noted that back in these times, the average person had to get by with music and
oral storytelling or live action media through the form of plays or even gladiatorial combats (Ferguson
2013). In light of the above, one might argue that mass media back in the day experienced a little
flourish, for instance the proliferation of theaters in Greek civilization or Coliseum games in Rome.
Nonetheless, it would be safe to say that mass media that we have come to know today, is a
comparatively modern phenomenon, due to the fact, that modern mass media differs gravely from its
historical antecedents but more with regard to technology rather than content. Business dictionary
defines media as the communication channels through which news, entertainment, education, data, or
promotional messages are disseminated. This is inclusive of every broadcasting and narrowcasting
medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, and
internet. This definition simply highlights the reality that the media is so vast and complex that it is
impossible to sum up what it is in a few words.
Thus, on the basis of the above, it is

Financial institutions have always recognized the importance of safeguarding customer data.
However, the impact of data compromise has increased substantially as identities have migrated from
visual to digital. Scenarios like the ones mentioned above have become significant due to never before
seen levels of regulatory fines and litigation expenses.
The New Basel Capital Accord (Basel II) requires financial institutions to develop a comprehensive
loss distribution so that they can more accurately estimate their risk profile and reserve requirements.
In particular, Basel II adds operational risk to the traditional categories of credit risk and market risk
that are currently used to estimate capital requirements.
2 Addressing Operational Risk
By including operational risk in the calculation metrics for the New Capital Accord, Basel II has
recognized that credit and market risks are not the only exposures that a bank may face. The
complexity of calculating operational risk is, however, compounded by the fact that the internal loss
history of a financial institution does not adequately account for all the operational risks and exposures
faced by that institution.
To augment internal experiential data, Basel II recommends that financial institutions look to external
events and scenarios. External loss data cannot be readily used in capital calculations due to the
inherent shortcomings of the reliability of

Bamboo As A Low Cost, Eco Friendly Manner
BAMBOO IN ARCHITECTURE
ABSTRACT
Bamboo has found use in extensive fields ranging from medicine to cooking to furniture making and
most importantly in construction. The advantage of using bamboo is the easy availability of the
material especially in India. The use of bamboo as a structural construction material is also gaining
popularity primarily because it is a rapidly growing material which makes it sustainable. It has many
positive engineering attributes such as its high strength and durability. The goal of assessing bamboo s

Informative Speech On Cervical Cancer Surgery
Cervical Cancer Surgery: What To Expect?
Cervical Cancer Topic Overview
The cervical cancer indicates the growth of abnormal cells on the cervix, which is the lower part of the
uterus that opens into the vagina. Cervical cancer has the ability to invade or spread to other parts of
the body. Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide as it is the fourth
most causes of death from cancer in women. The American Cancer Society estimates that about
12,900 new cases of cervical cancer will be diagnosed in 2015 and about 4100 women will die from it.

Hysterectomy: During this type of surgery for treating cervical cancer, the uterus and cervix is
removed.
2. Radical hysterectomy: Usually, this type of surgery is recommended for a very small percentage of
women with early cervical cancer. This procedure involves the removal of the uterus and cervix as
well as the surrounding tissue and the upper part of the vagina. During this procedure, the lymph
nodes in the pelvis are removed. If this surgery is performed on older women then the ovaries are
removed and if it is performed on the younger women, then the ovaries are left behind so as to
preserve the ovarian function.
3. Pelvic extenteration: This type of surgery is an option for women with recurrent or advanced
cervical cancer. During this surgery, the cervix, uterus, vagina, bladder, ovaries, rectum and nearby
lymph nodes are removed. The tissues from elsewhere from the body is used for reconstructing the
vagina. The urine and stool is made to pass into the external bags.
Cervical Cancer survival rates:

Importance Of Writing Reflection
When I had signed up for this class, I thought it was going to be similar to a humanities course. I
thought that we would be learning about how journaling has evolved and various ways to journal. As
the class progressed, I found it to be more of an art than a humanities class. When this reality did not
match my expectation, I was disappointed. I had to challenge myself to get the most out of this course
by changing my attitude and adjusting my perspective.
As an art class, this would have been an excellent idea and well executed. Being able to learn about
different materials, binding techniques, and adhesives were helpful in the creation of journals, but it
was not what I had expected. One thing that stands out to me was the research paper, it just did not
seem to fit into the class very well. Most of the students did not know how to use Chicago Style
referencing properly and there was not any class time allotted to learning it nor to working on the
essays. It seemed to be used to check a box rather than to help our understanding. I think that this
essay would have fit into the course much better if we had been spending time in class learning about
various historical journalists and how their work impacted the region in which it was created. It just
did not seem as though our homework matched our class work, so I was a little thrown off. This
imbalance was especially apparent because the room was deemed technology free, so we could not
even work on our essays while in class.

Enlightened Despotism in Prussia
Assignment: 1
Critically examine the main features of Enlightened Despotism in 18th century Prussia.
The Enlightenment refers to an important cultural and intellectual movement of the 18th century,
whose goal was to establish knowledge based on an enlightened rationality. Enlightened Absolutism
or Enlightened Despotism as it is more often called can be defined as a form of government strongly
influenced by the wide propagation of ideas and the political philosophy of the Enlightenment. It is a
term first used by the Philosophes in the second half of the 18th century that manifested to describe a
particular phase in the development of absolutism. The term Enlightened Despot refers to those 18th
century monarchs who were familiar with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian Wolff was the first to introduce the ideas of the Enlightenment into German administrative
theory. His ideas derive from the Enlightenment. According to Wolff, the state was a voluntary
contract between individuals and the main purpose of the state was to further welfare and security. At
the same time, since the state has the duty to plan and implement measures for security and welfare, it
has the right to insist that its citizens obey its orders. It is emphasized that they are bound to do
willingly whatever the authorities deem to be right. These ideas were expounded and elaborated,
without adding anything new, by the German political theorists of the 18th century and particularly by
the followers of Wolff.
In practice, Enlightened Absolutism was certainly not so radical. The Physiocrats never got beyond
the initial stages in the implementation of their doctrines. Thus the French doctrine of Despotisme
éclaire remains an interesting trend of thought, but its practical effect was almost nil. The direct
influence of the German 18th century administrative theory was not much as well.
Frederick II of Prussia is often regarded as the first true enlightened despot. He was the first monarch
who declared the sovereign is the first servant of the state and presented Europe with a model of
progressive monarchy. Frederick cultivated friendship with several Philosophes and believed that
inputs from them could be used to make the administration of

Believe it or not there are such things as good and bad stress. Too much of either can lead to disorders
that can control our lives and can help spiral our lives out of control. These disorders can possibly, in a
sense, make us do things that we normally wouldn t do. It s almost like an altered uncontrollable state
of both mind and body. One of those stress disorders is called acute stress disorder. Acute Stress
Disorder, or ASD, is characterized by the development of severe anxiety, dissociative, and other

Securing A Republican Political Economy
Tom Brancato History 531E Analytic Essay 1 Securing a Republican Political Economy Introduction
American political economy was greatly shaped by the republican ideas of people like Thomas
Jefferson. It is sometimes easy to take the simplistic view of a republic to mean the creation of a self
governing group of people. As McCoy points out, To men of the eighteenth century the creation of a
republic entailed much more than simply replacing a king and hereditary privilege with an elective
system of government. Indeed, the creation of the early American government involved the setting up
of institutions and policies that would be conducive to the forming of a republic. The term republic
was more than just a system of government to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would argue that it was the combination of a republican vision supported by the tools of nation
building that was the driving force behind the establishment of the early US political economy. The
Republican Vision The republican vision was more than just a dream of self governance. The founders
were very cognizant of what it would take to maintain the republic in the long term. As McCoy states,
...they assumed that a healthy republican government demanded an economic and social order that
would encourage the shaping of a virtuous citizenry. Founders, such as Jefferson, felt that virtue was
needed to help sustain the republic. According to Jefferson one way to achieve virtue was creating a
political economy based on land. By working on the land, one can learn to be self reliant which would
lead to a more virtuous individual. The ideas that an agrarian life was a virtuous one was not unique to
the founders. Indeed, some have noted that Adam Smith praised agrarian life for the mental skill it
developed, and warned of the dangers of industrial labor on the mind . Surely, it couldn t have just
been the mental benefit that agrarian life promised, that motivated founders like Jefferson. The fact
that England was mostly an industrial, mercantilist economy gave credence to the desire of some of
the founders to prevent the newly formed nation from going down the

Campaign Finance Reform Essay
Campaign Finance Reform
Effective election campaigns have always relied on the candidates ability to raise money. Even in the
days before television, radio and the internet, it still took money to get the word out to the people in a
far flung land. However, today s candidates are faced with raising larger and larger amounts of money
with each new election that comes along.
Individuals are the primary source of campaign funding at the federal level, with political action
committees running a close second. Their donations are regulated donations and are referred to as hard
money. Organizations also contribute money to campaigns but often do so indirectly in ways that
allow them to skirt regulations pertaining to campaign finance. ... Show more content on

I agree that, deep down, there is something wrong with the way in which campaigns in the United
States are financed. There is little doubt that large corporations and/or special interest groups have a
quid pro quo expectation attached to the outlay of large sums of money (an expectation of a direct
exchange of campaign contributions for favorable government treatment).
That being said, however, I also think an equal (perhaps greater) problem is the role the media plays in
any election. Journalists have human biases and often times they allow them to show by promoting
those candidates with whom they agree philosophically or, even worse, providing more coverage for
those they know will produce higher ratings.
But assuming that campaign finance reform is the way to go, the First Amendment s guarantee of free
speech means any changes will need to be considered constitutional by the United States Supreme
Court. Yale Law School professors Bruce Ackerman and Ian Ayres proposed a system of modified
public financing coupled with an anonymous campaign contribution process as outlined in their 2004
book entitled Voting with Dollars: A new paradigm for campaign finance. This type of financing
would involve two components: patriot dollars (federal funds) and secret donations. All voters would
be given a $50 publicly funded voucher (patriot dollars) to donate to the campaign(s) of their choice.

Hypnosis In Psychology Essay
Hypnosis in Psychology
Throughout the history of this country, hypnosis has been dismissed as a form of gimmickry. Contrary
to this, for centuries numerous cultures have used hypnosis as a means of mental and spiritual healing.
Hypnosis is defined as an induced trance like state in which one is highly susceptible to suggestions,
or commands. There are three commonly known methods of hypnosis.
Two of which, the authoritarian and standardized approaches, are generally considered non beneficial
towards the subject. Meanwhile the utilization approach, primarily developed by Dr. Milton H.
Erickson, is the most widely used amongst psychologists today. The authoritarian approach focuses
primarily on the power of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The utilization approach assumes that each person is unique in terms of strategies used to create
his/her trance and, consequently the hypnotist s effectiveness depends upon how well he/she is able to
adapt his/her basic strategies to those of a given subject. Thus standardized methods are not used. The
approach further assumes that unconscious processes can operate in an intelligent and creative fashion
and that people have stored in their unconscious all the resources necessary to attain this quot;trance
quot;.
The question thus becomes: How does the hypnotist bring the subject under trance? Instead of
standardized techniques, he/she has to use general principles to guide his/her efforts. There are three
defined parts of the utilization approach: 1) accept and utilize the clients reality, 2) pace and lead the
subject s behavior and 3) interpret quot;resistance quot; as lack of pacing.
The first principle accept and utilize was stressed again and again by Erickson and is the essential
theme of Erickson and Rossi sHypnotherapy
(1979). Briefly stated, accepting means assuming and communicating to the subject that quot;what
you re doing at this point in time is exactly what I d like you to be doing. It s fine; it s perfect. quot;
Utilizing means assuming and communicating the attitude that quot;what you re doing right now is
exactly that which will allow you to do X. quot; The process of accepting and utilizing is one

Slang And Its Effect On Everyday Life Essay
The use of slang in my life today is very evident. My roommates and I always talk slang during the
day and the night. I don t use slang very much in text messages or emails partly because I don t feel
the need and I am normally emailing professors and staff members who expect me to respect them by
writing with proper English. Most of the time my roommates and I use slang when we are just
messing or playing around. Therefore, the use of slang in my classroom will be mainly for educational
purposes and limited because of the focus on standard English and the negative view it may put upon
the child. There is no doubt that people use slang almost every day. These people might be just using it
for fun and mocking others, while some may use it to protest the use of standard English. The book,
How English Works, by Curzan and Adams talks about how slang is used in everyday life and thrives
in places that involve pop music, athletics, narcotics, and other various factors (Curzan and Adams,
2012). I feel that Curzan and Adams are right on point when they say slang thrives on these main
ideas. For example, my roommates listen to music that has slang involved in it. My roommates and I
normally sing to some of the songs while they are playing or even after they are done playing and use
slang without consciously knowing because it is in a song. Normally these songs get stuck in our
heads and we end up singing the lyrics out loud using slang almost every day. Most of the songs that

The question at issue in this short story is, does the protagonist, Paul, receive a sense of love,

that he is lucky. His hard work was all for nothing. After he admits his winnings, she still doesn t

The Nazis And The Nazi War Essay
The Nazis, throughout their control of Germany, attempted to rid themselves of what they considered
weak in their army. Weakness to them was any sort of free thinking, defiance, mercy, and anything
they deemed inferior to their ideals. To drive their army to rid their idea of weak, the Nazis provoked
emotions of shame and fear in those associated with weakness. Which can be seen in Education for
Death: The Making of the Nazi when Hans is just a child in a Hitler Youth school and answer what he
felt about a fox eating a rabbit. When Hans says thee poor rabbit he is then promptly yelled at and sent
to sit in the corner while wearing a dunce cap. This humiliation along with his peer s answers of the
world belongs to the strong...the rabbit was a coward and deserved to die (Geronimi, Education for
Death) influenced Hans into hating the rabbit for being weak. These instilled ideas of weakness in the
German children led them to attempt and weed out the weak by putting them through humiliation or
death. All the Light We Cannot See displays the Nazi ideal of driving out the weak during Werner s
time at the training school. While Werner was attending, there was periodic checks by the
schoolmaster asking who was the weakest in their group. During so, schoolmaster s would says Just as

Nazi Ideology And The Nazi Party Essay
The leaders of the Nazi party made it one of the most infamous groups to lead a nation in history. The
horrible things done under their rule and with their stamp of approval has made the term Nazi one of
the worst possible. The amazing thing about the Nazi party is that many of the main aspects of their
ideology existed in Germany even before they formed or came to power. Some of the major aspects of
Nazi ideology such as antisemitism, the desire to expand the German empire, and the belief in the
strength of the Aryan race existed in Germany years before Adolf Hitler was a name anyone in
Germany would recognize. The most widely known aspects of Nazi ideology are their hatred of
Jewish people and their tireless efforts to exterminate the entire race during their rule. This distinctly
Nazi belief of antisemitism is not one that the Nazis created. It instead had existed for several
thousand years throughout Germany and all of Europe. As Stackelberg and Winkle explain, The
origins of the stereotype of Jews as immoral materialists can be traced to the unwillingness of Jews to
give up their religion in favor of world renouncing Christianity (Stackelberg and Winkle, Anti
Semitism, p. 2). This feeling of hatred towards Jews persisted for centuries, especially in countries that
had a majority of Christian citizens. There were a number of people that continually perpetuated these
anti Semitic views with the works that they published and their actions towards Jews. A great

Analysis Of How To Avoid Being Enslaved By Jennifer Kong
Everyday we are surrounded by consumerism; through billboards, commercials, magazines, and ads in
newspapers. It has been engrained in our subconscious mind to consistently consume. Of course the
conscious mind also plays a huge part in what it is we truly desire. All in all, Americans simply want
to spend money. It is this cycle of supply and demand that drives the American commerce system. To
consume means to use things up by either eating, wearing, or simply using them to satisfy one s
desires and needs. The problem in America is that our consumption turns into overuse and our desires
outweigh our supply. This in turn becomes an epidemic. Consuming for our basic needs is inevitable

Tennis Clothes for Women in the 1800 s
Women have been playing tennis since tennis was originated. Back in 1874, women played tennis, but
they only played mixed doubles, which is when men and women play together as partners. The clothes
women wore back then is way different then what we wear nowadays. Back then, women had to wear
a bustle skirt and a corset. This wasn t really the ideal clothing to wear on a sweltering day while
playing tennis. This is probably why a woman playing in the Wimbledon, a tennis tournament which
began in 1877 as a fundraiser, fainted in the second set on that hot, sunny day. This incident probably
occurred because that women was wearing tight and hot clothes while playing tennis, but instead of
taking this incident as a reason to change women s clothing, this incident became one of the reasons
why today women play less sets than men, which was one of the reasons why they got less prize
money than men.

Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament
Matthew is the first Gospel in the New Testament and is often considered to be the bridge between the
Old Testament and the New Testament. It was once thought to have been the first written Gospel
because of it being placed before all others, but that belief is not widely held (Hahn, n.d.). Just like
much of the rest of the Bible, no one is truly sure who the author or authors of the Gospel of Matthew
really were (Hahn, n.d.). While is it generally thought that Matthew, one of the Apostles of Jesus, was
the author of the Gospel of Matthew the only clear historical data that we have to substantiate this
comes from the Bishop of Hierapolis(BLB, n.d). Papias was the Bishop in Phrygia around the 2nd
century who collected information concerning the bible through oral methods. Because of this, there is
some doubt as to the credibility of the Bishop s sources ( Papias , n.d)
Matthew is known also as Levi in the bible and was often called Matthew, the tax collector ( Matthew
, n.d.). Matthew was called on by Jesus when he was seen at a tax collection booth and was told to join
by Jesus (Matthew 9:9). It was at this point that Matthew left his position as a tax collector, or
publican, to become an Apostle of Jesus Christ. It is believed that Matthew was the fifth of the twelve
original disciples of Jesus which can be ascertained by reading the beginning of the Gospel of

Captain Blood Comparison
Paul Lattanzio
DRA 106 Section 01

Film comparison between Pirates of the Caribbean and Caption Blood
Pirate films goes back as far as the beginning of movie making, as far as the silent film era. These
types of films where heavily influenced by Piracy in the late 17th century, a period where all type of
goods and other items were imported and exported by way of ships. Determination plays a major role
in many peoples lives, whether they be fictional characters or historical figures. As displayed in the
films Captain Blood and Pirates of the Caribbean, determination acted as a great sense of motivation
for two main characters. In Michael Curtiz and Gore Verbinski s films, both directors portrayed Peter
Blood and Will Turner as men who were driven by love to go above and beyond in order to fulfill their
wish of being with their soul mates.
Seaborne trade was reliable and a cheap way of moving goods, however in many cases, it caused ships
to appear vulnerable, making them susceptible to being attacks by ... Show more content on

An individual would expect a pirate film to contain plenty of adventure, similar to Pirates of the
Caribbean the Curse of the Black Pearl. An audience could clearly see an exciting and thrilling
journey unfold at the beginning of the film. The main character Jack Sparrow, a witty and clever pirate
embarks on a journey to rescue the governor s daughter and recapture the magnificent ship once
belonged to him, the Black Pearl. To add extra interest to this movie the director included a romance
between Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. Throughout the film these two characters protected one
another and had each other backs when there was danger. An example of this is when Will is trapped
in the boat and the water is filling up; Elizabeth attempts to save him but is taken back and held down

Vincent Van Gogh Essay example
Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post impressionist painter, whose work represents the archetype of
expressionism, the idea of emotional spontaneity in painting. Van Gogh was born March 30, 1853, in
Groot Zundert, son of a Dutch Protestant pastor. Van Gogh s birth came one year to the day after his
mother gave birth to a first, stillborn child; also named Vincent. There has been much speculation
about Vincent van Gogh suffering later psychological trauma as a result of being a replacement child
and having a deceased brother with the same name and same birth date. Early in life, he displayed a
moody, restless character that was to spoil his every pursuit. This theory remains unproven, however,
and there is no actual historical evidence to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These early works evidence were dark and serious, sometimes crude. Unfortunately, this unselfish
desire would reach somewhat obsessive proportions when Vincent began to give away most of his
food and clothing to the poverty stricken people under his care. Despite Vincent s noble intentions,
representatives of the Church strongly disapproved of van Gogh s somberness and dismissed him from
his post in July. Refusing to leave the area, van Gogh moved to an adjacent village, Cuesmes, and
remained there in abject poverty. For the next year, Vincent struggled to live from day to day and,
though not able to help the village people in any official capacity as a clergyman, he nonetheless chose
to remain a member of their community. One day Vincent felt obligated to visit the home of Jules
Breton, a French painter he greatly admired, so with only ten francs in his pocket he walked the entire
70 kilometers to Courrières, France, to see Breton. After arriving, however, Vincent was too afraid to
knock and returned to Cuesmes absolutely discouraged.
All the years of hard work, of continually refining his technique and learning to work in new media,
all served as stepping stones toward the production of Vincent van Gogh s first great painting: Potato
Eaters (1885, Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh, Amsterdam). His experiences as a preacher are
reflected in this painting.

Total Control In The Handmaid s Tale
Have you ever stopped to think, How would my life change if someone was in total control of it? How
do you think it would change? Do you think it would be difficult living this way? Would people adapt
to the environment? What do you think would happen if nobody was in control of their own lives, if
we at the mercy of someone else. What if our lives were a prison to our society? In the The
Handmaids Tale this is what happens. People are forced out of their daily lives and brought into new
ones. Of fred, the main protagonist, is trapped in Gilead as a handmaid. She is considered a two
legged womb and only valued for her potential as a surrogate mother. The town of Gilead shows male
dominance and women only for reproduction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of fred talked about how she could never be like her and how she didn t have half the courage she did.
Moria was a declared lesbian; this went against all foundations of Gilead Childbearing. I think if Of
fred didn t have Moria for support, not in person but in mind, then she wouldn t have made it as far as
she did. Makes me feel safer now that Moria s here (Pg. 70) After many times with the Commander
trying to get Of fred pregnant, Serena Joy the commander s wife secretly set up meets with the
chauffeur, Nick. Of fred already knew who he was because he was her signal if it was all right to go to
the commander s office for a discreet meeting. Nick and Of fred continue their meetings secretly
without anyone knowing. Eventually this affair becomes more than just sexual pleasure, but emotional
pleasure too. I think Of fred felt bad for having feelings for another man other than Luke, but she was
lonely. Loneliness can cause many problems, depression and sometimes as far as suicide, which some
people did do. The outcome of this story is unknown. Its kind of like our lives, we don t know what is
going to happen. Our future is in Gods hands. Who knows what s going to happen? This is actually a
scary thought. It sounds dumb, but I learned a lot from this book. I learned that your life can change at
the drop of a hat, nothing is always the same. I wouldn t have ever thought it was possible for an all
women society, but it is. I

Endoplasmic Reticulum ( Er ) Stress Response
Abstract
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response may be mediated by HRV16 nonstructural proteins 2B,
which share similar characteristics to CVB3 2B. To understand whether HRV16 2B induces an ER
stress response, a HRV16 2B fusion protein with GFP were generated and its effects on ATF6a
(activating transcription factor 6a), IRE1 (Inositol requiring enzyme 1), and PERK (PKR like ER
protein kinas) expression in BHK cells were determined. The results showed that HRV16 2B induced
significantly high expression of glucose regulated protein 78, and activated ATF4 and ATF6 in a time
dependent manner. HRV16 2B also significantly activated the PERK eIF2α pathway with marked
increased in expression of p PERK, p eIF2α, and CHOP. Additionally, HRV16 2B decreased the
expression of p IRE1 and ATF6 p50. These results demonstrated for the first time that the PERK
eIF2α signaling pathway, but not IRE1 and ATF6, mediates ER stress in BHK cells.
Keywords: HRV16, 2B protein, Endoplasmic reticulum stress, PERK Introduction
Human rhinovirus (HRV) infections are major risk factors for asthma and chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD) [1 4]. The airway epithelial cell is the dominant site of HRV infections in
vivo [5,6], and both upper and lower airway epithelial cells are infected at a similar frequency [7].
Non enveloped rhinovirus belonging to the Picornaviridae family is spherical in shape, with a
diameter ranging from 28 nm to 30 nm. The viral genome contains a single open reading

  • 2. Essay about Conflict Resolution Conflict Resolution Many people enjoy working or participating in a group or team, but when a group of people work together chances are that conflicts will occur. Hazleton describes conflict as the discrepancy between what is the perceived reality and what is seen as ideal (2007). We enter into conflicts reluctantly, cautiously, angrily, nervously, confidently and emerge from them battered, exhausted, sad, satisfied, triumphant. And still many of us underestimate or overlook the merits of conflict the opportunity conflict offers every time it occurs (Schilling, nd.). Conflict does not have to lead to a hostile environment or to broken relationships. Conflict if resolved effectively can lead to a positive experience for everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keeping all these in mind can lead to the best solution to solve the conflict. Change and Expectations People do not always adjust well to change. Oftentimes when change occurs, conflict will arise. The new boss on the job or the new member of the team may be the change that brings a conflict. Expectations if not set clearly and held to standard can also lead to conflict among the team. Expectations must be set from the beginning. Expectations must also be clear and it must be verified that each team member understands the expectations. If a short coming on the expectations occurs, then action must be taken immediately. If no action is taken this could be understood as silent approval and team members will believe that the expectation is no longer important or required. When conflict does occur, the five models set out in The Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument sets the standards for resolving the conflict. Avoidance Avoidance is defined as an act or practice of avoiding or withdrawing from something (Merriam Webster.com). Avoidance may not be the answer if the conflict directly affects the team or the team s goal. Avoidance is usually used when the conflict is irrelevant, relationships are at stake, more important issues are pressing, when one party is more emotionally involved, or when more information is needed (Culbertson, 2000). In avoidance the parties involved agree to place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar s first dream of a statue made of four metals (Dan 2:1 49). When Daniel was finished, King Nebuchadnezzar fell down before him and said, Of a truth ... your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets (Dan 2:46, 47). He then interpreted a second dream of Nebuchadnezzar, (Dan 4:8 27) about a great tree, which was a sign of the king becoming insane. The fulfillment of this dream is what converted the king to worship God. He was called upon to explain the handwriting on the wall that disturbed the feast of Belshazzar (Dan 5:10 28). This foretold the end of the Babylonian empire and the coming of the Medes. For his service, he was awarded a purple robe and appointed as one of three governors over the kingdom (Dan 6:1 2). While in the service of the new king Darius, he was thrown into the lions den for praying to any god except Darius (Dan 6:10 23). Japan was not expecting the magnitude of the earthquake and tsunami, and endured much hardship after the disaster. The effects of the tsunami can still be seen in Japan today through its residents, economy, and through actions that have been taken to further protect residents from future disasters. Though the Japan 2011 tsunami is one of the most destructive tsunamis ever recorded, dangerous tsunamis continue to take place across the globe. The Japan 2011 tsunami not only affected the inhabitants of Japan, but also affected people around the world. After disasters such as this, each area must endure the aftermath of the disaster and recover from the effects. A tsunami is a series of huge waves occurring when there is a major disturbance on the ocean floor. Tsunamis often occur due to earthquakes, volcanoes, or landslides (Park 16). Underwater earthquakes may produce waves that travel in all different directions. Some tsunamis lose power and die out under water, others may produce large waves as they approach land. Tsunamis may look like an onrushing tidal wave as they approach land, but do not occur because of tides (Park 6). Their walls of water can move across the open ocean at speeds of up to 560 miles per hour. When the waves hit the coast, they can reach up to 100 feet (Park 5). He not only shared his perspectives with the world, but he shared his discoveries, as well. Franklin improved his society s life in a variety of ways. Franklin impacted the eighteenth century by making scientific discoveries, sharing his philosophy in the Enlightenment, and establishing social and political improvements for the American colonies. To begin with, Franklin was born on January seventeenth, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts (Labaree xiii). Even with only two years of schooling, Franklin devoted himself to reading and learning at a young age (Fleming 15). He was interested in poetry as a child and even published one of his own. • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Social Media In society today, we as a whole have replaced communicating face to face and have switched to expressing our ideas behind a screen. Because of this, a good number of arguments have arose from post and publications that state someone s opinion about an issue. One of the most highly used forms of media in our world today is social media, which are websites and technological apps that enable a person or group to create their own websites and pages for a specific purpose. Social media creates a second world where people can communicate with others across the world in a matter of seconds. Whenever you have a large collection of people in the same area, each stating their arguments and sides to something, there are going to be conflicting sides to every situation. Another way of describing the word argument is by using the words ethos, pathos, and logos. These three words are used when arguing on social media every single day. Ethos, which is the credibility and expertise that a person has on a specific topic, is used in arguments for appealing to people who are interested in their product or service. • 13. The Role Of Media And Its Functionality Introduction In an effort to understand the media and its functionality, it is my belief that one needs to go back to inception to get a fair understanding. The twentieth century was an era that saw an explosion of mass media however, prior to the late 1980s; the only form of mass media that was prominent of that time was literature. It was noted that back in these times, the average person had to get by with music and oral storytelling or live action media through the form of plays or even gladiatorial combats (Ferguson 2013). In light of the above, one might argue that mass media back in the day experienced a little flourish, for instance the proliferation of theaters in Greek civilization or Coliseum games in Rome. Nonetheless, it would be safe to say that mass media that we have come to know today, is a comparatively modern phenomenon, due to the fact, that modern mass media differs gravely from its historical antecedents but more with regard to technology rather than content. Business dictionary defines media as the communication channels through which news, entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated. This is inclusive of every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, and internet. This definition simply highlights the reality that the media is so vast and complex that it is impossible to sum up what it is in a few words. Thus, on the basis of the above, it is ... Christian Wolff was the first to introduce the ideas of the Enlightenment into German administrative theory. His ideas derive from the Enlightenment. According to Wolff, the state was a voluntary contract between individuals and the main purpose of the state was to further welfare and security. It is emphasized that they are bound to do willingly whatever the authorities deem to be right. These ideas were expounded and elaborated, without adding anything new, by the German political theorists of the 18th century and particularly by the followers of Wolff. In practice, Enlightened Absolutism was certainly not so radical. The Physiocrats never got beyond the initial stages in the implementation of their doctrines. It is sometimes easy to take the simplistic view of a republic to mean the creation of a self governing group of people. As McCoy points out, To men of the eighteenth century the creation of a republic entailed much more than simply replacing a king and hereditary privilege with an elective system of government. I would argue that it was the combination of a republican vision supported by the tools of nation building that was the driving force behind the establishment of the early US political economy. The Republican Vision The republican vision was more than just a dream of self governance. The founders were very cognizant of what it would take to maintain the republic in the long term. As McCoy states, ...they assumed that a healthy republican government demanded an economic and social order that would encourage the shaping of a virtuous citizenry. Founders, such as Jefferson, felt that virtue was needed to help sustain the republic. According to Jefferson one way to achieve virtue was creating a political economy based on land. By working on the land, one can learn to be self reliant which would lead to a more virtuous individual. The ideas that an agrarian life was a virtuous one was not unique to the founders. Indeed, some have noted that Adam Smith praised agrarian life for the mental skill it developed, and warned of the dangers of industrial labor on the mind . Surely, it couldn t have just been the mental benefit that agrarian life promised, that motivated founders like Jefferson. Even in the days before television, radio and the internet, it still took money to get the word out to the people in a far flung land. However, today s candidates are faced with raising larger and larger amounts of money with each new election that comes along. Individuals are the primary source of campaign funding at the federal level, with political action committees running a close second. Their donations are regulated donations and are referred to as hard money. I agree that, deep down, there is something wrong with the way in which campaigns in the United States are financed. There is little doubt that large corporations and/or special interest groups have a quid pro quo expectation attached to the outlay of large sums of money (an expectation of a direct exchange of campaign contributions for favorable government treatment). That being said, however, I also think an equal (perhaps greater) problem is the role the media plays in any election. Journalists have human biases and often times they allow them to show by promoting those candidates with whom they agree philosophically or, even worse, providing more coverage for those they know will produce higher ratings. But assuming that campaign finance reform is the way to go, the First Amendment s guarantee of free speech means any changes will need to be considered constitutional by the United States Supreme Court. Yale Law School professors Bruce Ackerman and Ian Ayres proposed a system of modified public financing coupled with an anonymous campaign contribution process as outlined in their 2004 book entitled Voting with Dollars: A new paradigm for campaign finance. All voters would be given a $50 publicly funded voucher (patriot dollars) to donate to the campaign(s) of their choice. Both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Nazis And The Nazi War Essay The Nazis, throughout their control of Germany, attempted to rid themselves of what they considered weak in their army. Weakness to them was any sort of free thinking, defiance, mercy, and anything they deemed inferior to their ideals. To drive their army to rid their idea of weak, the Nazis provoked emotions of shame and fear in those associated with weakness. Which can be seen in Education for Death: The Making of the Nazi when Hans is just a child in a Hitler Youth school and answer what he felt about a fox eating a rabbit. • 34. Nazi Ideology And The Nazi Party Essay The leaders of the Nazi party made it one of the most infamous groups to lead a nation in history. The horrible things done under their rule and with their stamp of approval has made the term Nazi one of the worst possible. The amazing thing about the Nazi party is that many of the main aspects of their ideology existed in Germany even before they formed or came to power. Some of the major aspects of Nazi ideology such as antisemitism, the desire to expand the German empire, and the belief in the strength of the Aryan race existed in Germany years before Adolf Hitler was a name anyone in Germany would recognize. The most widely known aspects of Nazi ideology are their hatred of Jewish people and their tireless efforts to exterminate the entire race during their rule. This distinctly Nazi belief of antisemitism is not one that the Nazis created. It instead had existed for several thousand years throughout Germany and all of Europe. As Stackelberg and Winkle explain, The origins of the stereotype of Jews as immoral materialists can be traced to the unwillingness of Jews to give up their religion in favor of world renouncing Christianity (Stackelberg and Winkle, Anti Semitism, p. 2). This feeling of hatred towards Jews persisted for centuries, especially in countries that had a majority of Christian citizens. There were a number of people that continually perpetuated these anti Semitic views with the works that they published and their actions towards Jews. A great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was once thought to have been the first written Gospel because of it being placed before all others, but that belief is not widely held (Hahn, n.d.). Just like much of the rest of the Bible, no one is truly sure who the author or authors of the Gospel of Matthew really were (Hahn, n.d.). While is it generally thought that Matthew, one of the Apostles of Jesus, was the author of the Gospel of Matthew the only clear historical data that we have to substantiate this comes from the Bishop of Hierapolis(BLB, n.d). Papias was the Bishop in Phrygia around the 2nd century who collected information concerning the bible through oral methods. Because of this, there is some doubt as to the credibility of the Bishop s sources ( Papias , n.d) Matthew is known also as Levi in the bible and was often called Matthew, the tax collector ( Matthew , n.d.). Van Gogh was born March 30, 1853, in Groot Zundert, son of a Dutch Protestant pastor. Van Gogh s birth came one year to the day after his mother gave birth to a first, stillborn child; also named Vincent. There has been much speculation about Vincent van Gogh suffering later psychological trauma as a result of being a replacement child and having a deceased brother with the same name and same birth date. Despite Vincent s noble intentions, representatives of the Church strongly disapproved of van Gogh s somberness and dismissed him from his post in July. Refusing to leave the area, van Gogh moved to an adjacent village, Cuesmes, and remained there in abject poverty. For the next year, Vincent struggled to live from day to day and, though not able to help the village people in any official capacity as a clergyman, he nonetheless chose to remain a member of their community. One day Vincent felt obligated to visit the home of Jules Breton, a French painter he greatly admired, so with only ten francs in his pocket he walked the entire 70 kilometers to Courrières, France, to see Breton. After arriving, however, Vincent was too afraid to knock and returned to Cuesmes absolutely discouraged. All the years of hard work, of continually refining his technique and learning to work in new media, all served as stepping stones toward the production of Vincent van Gogh s first great painting: Potato Eaters (1885, Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh, Amsterdam). Endoplasmic Reticulum ( Er ) Stress Response Abstract Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response may be mediated by HRV16 nonstructural proteins 2B, which share similar characteristics to CVB3 2B. To understand whether HRV16 2B induces an ER stress response, a HRV16 2B fusion protein with GFP were generated and its effects on ATF6a (activating transcription factor 6a), IRE1 (Inositol requiring enzyme 1), and PERK (PKR like ER protein kinas) expression in BHK cells were determined. The results showed that HRV16 2B induced significantly high expression of glucose regulated protein 78, and activated ATF4 and ATF6 in a time dependent manner. HRV16 2B also significantly activated the PERK eIF2α pathway with marked increased in expression of p PERK, p eIF2α, and CHOP. Additionally, HRV16 2B decreased the expression of p IRE1 and ATF6 p50.
