The Effects Of Malnutrition On Educational Disparities
The Impact of Malnutrition on Educational Disparities in Africa
By: Merette Khalil and Blessing Kuebee, African Students Association At the start of the millennium,
various United Nations (UN) partners came together to tackle some of the world s deadliest and most
pressing social and economic problems, and in doing so, established the Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs). In the past 15 years, the MDGs have been evaluated and re evaluated. This year the
UN has declared a new set of 17 goals for the next 15 years called the Sustainable Development
Goals. The first issue on both agendas is the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, a problem that
is specifically significant for the entire continent of Africa.
Clarifying a few terms based on the World Food Program s definition is essential to understanding the
scope of the problem.
Hunger is not having enough to eat to meet energy requirements. It can lead to malnutrition, which is
a condition when one s diet does not provide adequate nutrients for growth and maintenance or when a
person is not able to adequately utilize the food consumed due to illness. Undernutrition, being
nutrient deficient, being underweight and even being overweight are all complications that result from
hunger.
Undernourishment is when a person is not able to acquire enough food to meet the daily minimum
dietary energy requirements, over a period of one year.
Wasting is rapid weight loss or a failure to gain weight and is strongly related

Words Affecting A Child s Second Language
A child s first words, a jumble of sounds that no longer sound like gibberish, which cause grown men
and women to turn into ecstatic five year olds, and show the beginning of a child s path in learning
language. From that point and onwards the child only picks up more words, understanding their
meaning and the context in which they can be used, but eventually that child speaks a different kind of
first word. A first word that causes those same parents to cringe, and flinch in disgust, as these are the
common reactions that society wants one to believe occur in response to the use of vulgar words.
These words that are taboo in society in every culture, and all corners of the world, words that caused
many to learn what soap tastes like, to know what it feels like to get an earful for saying a mouthful,

In fact by the age of two, most children begin picking up their first cuss word, and by the age of five
will have attained most of the blasphemous language that they themselves will go onto use. These
obscene words are in frequent use still, as in reality they play a vital function of helping to relieve
stress, become more persuasive, and help manage pain. Already these various patterns of letters
(known as words ) help us to communicate our emotions to others from love to hate, happiness to
sadness, and many other deep and complex feelings. By excluding cuss words, it infringes on our
ability to communicate and express ourselves, almost directly limiting a right to a freedom of speech.
By as a society conforming and allowing these expressions to be used, it will help to expand the
fundamental values of the human race by expanding this constitutional right as well as allowing us as
a whole to feel the benefits these expletives can

Redemption In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
As soon as Adam and Eve took a bite of the forbidden fruit, the utopian idea ceased to exist. Because
of Adam and Eve s disobedience, society today is full of sinners. However people may not be able to
avoid the fate that awaits them, but fortunately, freedom allows people to respond to their sin. Some
will respond with guilt and pains, while others will live a life of redemption. Similarly, Nathaniel
Hawthorne, in his novel The Scarlet Letter, shows two characters that deal with their sins differently.
Though Hester and Dimmesdale both suffer, Dimmesdale suffers more by concealing his sin, his
blindness to his companion, Roger Chillingworth, and the pain he feels on his chest. Hester Prynne
has to deal with her sin publicly. The people of her village condemn ... Show more content on

She is forced to wear the scarlet letter, A for adultery. Although Hester lives on the outskirts of town
(Hawthorne 74), she lives a life of redemption. She uses her talent of needlework to make coarse

such rude handiwork (Hawthorne 77). In Chapter 13, Hawthorne skips ahead seven years and during
these years, Hester has been pure from any sin. Her token of sin becomes the symbol of her calling
and carries a new meaning: A for Able (Hawthorne 146). Since she was publicly humiliated, it leads
her to her redemption in society. Pearl is Hester s companion and friend. Although Pearl is the
physical consequence of Hester s sin, she is also a blessing. When Governor Bellingham wishes to

Essay on The Moment of Inertia of a Disk and a Ring
Objective: The objective of this laboratory was to theoretically calculate the moment of inertia of a
disk and a ring and then to verify the moment of inertia for both objects through experiment. This
laboratory shows that while the theoretical is not within the uncertainty of the experimental, both
values are extremely similar to each other.
Data and Analysis:

This calculation will be done later on. After using equation 1 to find the experimental moment of
inertia, the average and standard deviation of the five trials for No Ring and Ring were calculated
using Excel commands for average and standard deviation. The averages will be used later on in order
to calculate the experimental moment of inertia for the ring. In the next step, the theoretical moment of
inertia was calculated for the disk by using equation 2.
I_disk^th=1/2 M_d R_d^2 (2)
In the equation above, the I_disk^th is the theoretical moment of inertia of the disk, M_d is the mass
of the disk, Rd is the radius of the disk. Next, the theoretical moment of inertia of the Ring was
calculated using equation 3 below.
I_ring^th=1/2 M_r (R_1^2+R_2^2) (3)
In the equation above, I_ring^this the theoretical moment of inertia of the Ring, Mr is the mass of the
ring, R_1^2 is the inner radius of the ring, and R_2^2 is the outer radius of the ring. In order to
compare the experimental and theoretical moments of inertia of the Ring, the experimental moment of
inertia of the ring alone has to be calculated. It is given that the experimental moment of the system
equals to the experimental moment of inertia of the ring plus the experimental moment of inertia of
the disk. The experimental moment of inertia can be found by solving

Examples Of Generation Gap In A Raisin In The Sun
Bernard Rosenberg, an author who wrote books about societal issues in the 1970s, once wrote,
Generation Gap: A chasm, amorphously situated in time and space, that separates those who have
grown up absurd from those who will, with luck, grow up absurd. People grown up in different
environments or times have their own morals or methods of operation that would not be politically
correct today. This leads to a generation gap between young and old people. The difference between
an educated twenty year old with prodigious dreams (Beneatha) and a conservative woman in her
early sixties (Mama) is demonstrated In A Raisin in the Sun written by Lorraine Hansberry with how it
shows generation separates dreams, values, and cultural perspectives as shown with Beneatha and
Mama.
Beneatha and Mama s dreams are separated because of Beneatha s dreams of becoming a doctor.
Female doctors in the 1950s were seen not as accredible in their field. When Ruth tells Mama about
her appointment for her pregnancy and the female doctor she went to, Mama says, She What doctor
you went to? (61). To Mama going to a female doctor is seen as giving up the baby which is the worst
thing possible in Mama s mind. Mama undermines Beneatha as a doctor or any other female doctor
because Mama was raised in a generation where the workforce was dominated by men while women
were housewives. Another choice Mama disagrees with is Beneatha choice to not get married. Mama
pesters Beneatha many times about marriage, but Beneatha never agreed. This was shown when
Beneatha said, I m going to be a doctor. I m not worried about who I m going to marry if I ever get
married (50). Beneatha wants to be a strong independent female doctor and not a housewife; besides,
Mama believes that women should be married; nevertheless, they should not take on such a male
dominated job. Many times Mama pushes Beneatha to marry a rich man, George Murchison, instead
of supporting her dreams because Beneatha s dreams are not the traditional life style. Beneatha pushes
through Mama s beliefs on marriage and female doctors to still continue her dreams of being a doctor.
Between Mama and Beneatha there is a vast generation gap as seen in the opposing views. Beneatha

Comparing Shakespeare And Branagh s Adaptation Of As You...
As You Like It unravels one of William Shakespeare s greatest pastoral comedies. Set in France, the
play emphasizes the tension between the city and courtly world from the country or, for the purposes
of this play, the green world. Shakespeare intensifies the tension between city and country by
intertwining major themes of love and performance. Although the play begins in France, it mostly
takes place within the confines of the forest of Arden. Through her transformable identity, Rosalind
demonstrates the endless possibilities of the green world by wandering around Arden and resolving
the troubles of love and marriage. Although Shakespeare s pastoral comedy permeates a space of
nostalgia, it more or less presents a play about lovers. On the other hand, Kenneth Branagh s 2007
film adaptation of As You Like It presents an altered interpretation of Shakespeare s pastoral comedy

His blending of Japanese aspects creates an unrealistic and over theatrical sensation. The setting
displays a theatrical aspect which reminds me of the last line of the haiku, All the world s a stage, also
one of Shakespeare s most famous lines. Branagh s use of setting deepens the way I look at the
passage of time in the text. Jacques claims that all men and women are players in a staged world;
[they] have their exits and their entrances, / And one man in his time plays many parts, / His acts being
seven ages (AYLI.2.7.140 142). The setting of Branagh s film in Japan is a set stage, which leads me
to believe that Jacques statement is a set speech that unifies all plays. If the world is a stage than this
play could be set anywhere, and the occurrences and struggles can be found anywhere in the world,
not just in the city, but in the countryside too as we find true in Arden. Branagh s use of setting blurs
the boundaries between space and time between his As You Like It production and

Women In The Military
Women have always played an important role in the U.S Military and continue to, however women
did not officially serve in the US military until the Army and Navy Nurse Corps were established in
1901 and 1908. Prior to that time many women served with the armed forces as contracted and
volunteer nurses, cooks and laundresses (Scott, 2013). During the Revolutionary, Civil and Mexican

The Problem With 24 Hour News
Dustin Wisby English II Ms. Stewart 9 21 2014 The Problem with 24 Hour News biasness of each
During any breaking news segment on any 24 hour news coverage channel there seems to always be
problems and mistakes that are made by reporters for not having the correct information on the story.
Also when there is no significant stories to report on there seems to be a cycle of information that each
news channel tries to throw at you. Examples of this would be presidential stories, repeating stories
over and over, and so on. Just imagine if one had to have something to say constantly about anything
and everything they could find. Would that not get annoying listening to one person speak all day
every day about anything they could find. So why do we have these problems and is it even good for
the people of the United States to have twenty four hour news channels? At the beginning of television
news an arrangement existed between television journalists and the public. It was look at as that in
modern times promotion journalism was normal. The United States was the modern, broadminded
leader of the free world. When Walter Cronkite reported on the daily count of deaths of American
soldiers in Vietnam, in lead to the antiwar disapprovals of the 1960s. One man changed how the
United States look at the war with his power and influence to change people opinions. (Mann) With
rise of CNN, the first 24 Hour News, in the early 1980s continued practice of promotion journalism.

The Woods
I don t know why we thought it was such a great idea to go to the woods on a rainy day. What were we
thinking? I thought hey maybe we can have an adventure and explore around those woods we always
pass by. What a horrible mistake, but I wasn t the only one who thought that was the best idea ever at
the time.
It was a gloomy day, the dusty clouds taking up space from the grey sky, laying down on my comfy
bed as I m wrapped around with my blanket, I decided to check on my phone. Hey, want to hang out
today?
Sure
What should we do?
Let s go to the woods that s near your house
That sounds like a wonderful idea! I quickly got up and put on some shorts and a tank top. I looked
around my room and finally found my black shoes and decided to bring an umbrella too just in case it
rain hard. I was so excited to go explore and take beautiful pictures at the woods. I grab my bag and
told my dad I was ready to leave to my friend s house, I remember the car ride felt like it took forever.
Finally, I arrive at her house, I knock on her door and as usual her Russian terrier starts to bark. Taylor
shut up or go outside! I could just hear her screaming at the dog to calm down. The door opened
slowly and there she was, I could tell she was also excited to go and explore around just like me. Hey
Lirio, come inside.

The Concepts Of At Risk And Risk Of Young People s Lives...
Introduction
The concepts of at risk and risk are prominent in much of the literature on the sociology of youth. The
objective of this essay is to explore the positive and negative sides of focusing on risk in young people
s lives, and contend that although the concepts may help us to understand youth behaviours, there is a
need to be cautious in its implementation, as they carry a number of implicit assumptions. Firstly, the
approaches of at risk and risk taking are defined; in order to understand the different ways the
concepts are related to young people. These positive aspects include of the identification of at risk
youth for prevention measures and Stephen Lyng s edgework notion to comprehend individuals
voluntary risk taking . Secondly, discussions the usefulness of the concepts in promoting our
comprehension of young individuals behaviours are provided. Lastly, limitations of the approaches are
discussed to highlight the precautions needed when applying the concepts, as it may lead to placing
the blame on at risk youth, higher degree of scrutiny for young women than their men and the
normalised assumption on behalf of the risk taking notion.
The concepts of at risk and risk taking
There are two main concepts in the literatures of the sociology of youth, which linked risk and young
people together. The first concept is at risk and the term is often used to identify or describe young
people who, due to difficulties and disadvantaged situations,

Managerial Decision Making Is Not Only Influenced By An...
Thesis Statement: Managerial decision making is not only influenced by an individual s personality
but also by some social factors. What is decision making? Defining decision making is a hard task just
as it would be to define knowledge: it is a process we use on a daily basis, but when it comes to find a
way to describe how it works we encounter many obstacles. That is due to the fact that each one of us
has his/her unique decision making process, which is continuously built in time. Several academic
definition of decision making exist, depending on the kind of situation in which the decision takes
place. For a manager, the decision making is a core process, and unfortunately half of the decision
taken by management in an organization fail (Nutt, 1999), thus key importance has been given lately
in researching this field. A business related definition states that decision making is the thought
process of selecting a logical choice from the available options . This definition highlights that despite
the wish of giving to this process an objective and constant trait, both time and subjectiveness are
instead crucial. As a matter of fact, when a decision has to be made, even if it is a business decisions,
not only rationality comes into the picture: past experience, cognitive biases, age and individual
differences, belief in personal relevance, and an escalation of commitment, all influence what choices
people make (Dietrich, 2010). In other words, analyzing the above

Proposal For Higher Education

Current research over student debt and its burden has allowed an insight and analyzation over the
government s role in higher education at the federal, state, and local level. Through data of institution
cost efficiency and inefficiency, tax exporting, and the backgrounds of student borrowers,
policymakers and can create a visual representation of the importance of state allocations towards
higher education.
Government matters. A study done by Sav (2016), explores the decreases in state and federal Pell

Second, it is crucial that the states, rather than the federal government solely, play a more concrete
role in reducing the burden for millions of student borrowers. Third, policymakers should take into
consideration the dynamics and backgrounds of the student body in higher education institutions when
considering appropriations.
Collective Themes
Several themes and elements are recurrent in this research of college affordability. Federalism
concerns add fuel to the debate of the role of government in higher education policymaking. Ethical,
equity, economic, and political issues arise that divide citizens between considering higher education a
public or a private good, whether it has economic benefits, and whether it is worth taxpayer dollars.
The themes are consistent through the perspectives of the history, media, government enactments,
public opinion, political parties, interest groups and research.
Federalism
The relationship between the national government and state governments has changed and expanded
immensely (Kraft Furlong, 2015). How does the issue of rising tuition, high student loan interests, and
student debt detail federalism? The authority of each level of government is questioned in education
policy. How much power should the national government have over higher education?
Constitutionally, the national government only has explicitly enumerated

Animal Testing Is A Catastrophe
Animal testing is a catastrophe. Do you agree? Animals play a significant role in our existence, they
involve in food chain and help in the sustainability of bio diversity. Unfortunately they entered the
scientific field through the experiments of new drugs. The utilization of creatures in exploratory
investigations in the UK can be followed back at any rate similarly as the seventeenth Century with
Harvey s analyses on various creature species intending to show blood flow. Crosswise over Europe,
the utilization of creatures in experimental examination started to grow over the nineteenth Century, to
some degree upheld by the improvement of analgesics which had already made creature research
incomprehensible. In 1876, parliament passed the Cruelty to Animals Act, the principal enactment
went for directing creature tests. Over the late nineteenth and the twentieth hundreds of years, the
extension of restorative science implied that the quantities of creatures utilized as a part of

manual for the utilization of creatures in wellbeing testing in the wake of the Thalidomide catastrophe.

Clifton Suspension Bridge Essay examples
Clifton Suspension Bridge
The Clifton Suspension Bridge is located in Bristol England, and spans the beautiful Avon gorge. This
bridge has become the symbol of Bristol much like the Eiffel tower has of Paris, and the Opera house
has of Sydney. The story of the Clifton Suspension Bridge began in 1754 with the dream of a Bristol
wine merchant who donated his life savings to build a bridge over the gorge. To decide on a suitable
design for the bridge a competition was held. Thomas Telford, the leading civil architect of the time

himself the winner was overruled and a second competition was held. This time, contrary to the

Also the original design was narrower than the final structure; the increased width has an interesting
story. Apparently a local land owner wished to drive his carriage to Bristol without having to walk or
negotiate the steep roads on the sides of the gorge, so he convinced the engineers, and paid for the
necessary modifications to widen the design of the bridge. It is fortunate that he insisted on this
widening because the bridge as it was originally designed would have never been able to cater to
modern traffic demands. The bridge was finished in 1859 and opened to the public in 1864.
Before the bridge was built the slip way was the only way to cross the river without taking a long
detour. The slip way was crossed at high tide by rowing a boat across, and at low tide by crossing on
series gangplanks that were tied together. Both crossings were fairly dangerous and extremely
inconvenient and therefore a bridge was a very popular idea.
The Clifton Suspension bridge is world famous and one of the essential things to see in the West
Country. It is a beautiful piece of engineering that is lovely maintained by the bridge staff. The two
towers of the bridge span from Clifton to summerset, the Clifton tower is build on a solid rock surface
that acts as a foundation, however the summerset tower needed a massive brick buttress before work

Introduction
This memorandum addresses to present an overview of the features, functionalities, and characteristics
of the Smart Grid. It expounds the effects of Smart Grid technologies on the modern electricity grid,
power industry, and society. Smart Grids came up as a solution to make the electricity grid more adapt
to the demand of the times, make it more sustainable, greener, and more efficient to the delivery of
electric power. Smart Grids are more self governing and enhance the higher effectivity and efficiency
of power delivery, and they also allow renewable energy recourses safely to connect into the grid to
replenish the power supply from the normal customers distributed power plants and storage, power
industries can minimize the cost to build more power plants with renewable energy, transmission lines,
and substations to raise the level of power supply which to adapt to the modern electricity
consumption. This memorandum can help people learn more about Smart Grids, the better
understanding of its value, the less resistance to the construction of it, the faster promotion of the
development of it. The purpose of it is to introduce what the Smart Grid is, present the discussion of
its features and related technologies, demonstrate how these technologies will influence the modern

Thesis About Snow Treasure
Have you ever thought about your country having a war with other country?? Snow Treasure by Marie
McSwigan is a sad and memorable story of children carrying gold in Norway(Norway is their country)
and adults fighting with Germans. This story is important to people who think war is nothing. Because
in this story, they show how they are having a hard time during the war. I really admire character Jan
Lasek, who is a Pole but he was once German solider. Then you ll ask me why. Because he risked his
life to save Peter from German army.

It s important because it shows how much hard time they are having during the war and it teaches you
how people get hurt by war. In the war between Norway and German, children always have to pull
gold on the sled because Germans can take them. They carry more than 100kg. It will be really hard.
And by hurting, sure it can be like shooting gun hurting, but if our heart hurts, it really hurts. Like
with war, when people pass away, think about it. How will their family feel?? Really, really sad. So I
think like war, we shouldn t make it happen.
I was able to identify with Peter who was afraid at first to be the leader but later on he did a great job.
I strongly recommend this book because it is touching and it shows how children has done a great job,
with very responsible actions. I was very moved with Jan Lasek because even if he can die, he risked
his life for Peter. How touching and amazing is that?? I think I can t have done it. I was inspired with
Uncle Victor s idea. If children is around, who would think they are carrying a gold?? It was a great
idea. It taught me that if we really want something, they risk their lifes to. Like for example, if my
mother is sick, than I ll do anything to fix it. Won t you?
It s a interesting story. It really made me sweat some times. And you ll be moved with what Jan Lasek
has done for Peter. I really loved this book. I recommend to all my

John Adams And Abraham Lincoln
Despite the disparity in the popularity ratings between the two presidents, John Adams and Abraham
Lincoln are both indispensable figures in American history. In times of crisis, both of these men made
big, consequential decisions to keep the country from falling apart. However, while Lincoln is
commemorated for abolishing slavery and leading the Union in the Civil War, John Adams is
remembered for the mistakes of his presidency the Alien and Sedition Acts he issued that took away
certain constitutional rights endowed to the American people. Both presidents thought they were doing
what was necessary at the time to keep the United States from falling apart, but the contrasting
approaches they used left opposite impressions. This can be contributed to the fact that almost all
aspects of their lives, personal and professional, were opposite. So, while both presidents essentially
did the same thing in saving America from falling apart, their reputations are so different now because
of the way their lives and situations influenced the decisions they made.
HBO s John Adams begins in 1770, as the colonies are on their way to revolting against the British
Crown. The series begins with Adams life right before the revolution and follows the rest of his life

The Autobiography Of Malcolm X By Alex Haley Essay
Malcolm X had a very interesting life and there were several aspects that affected his views of
American society. In The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley, the three main things that
effected Malcolm s life was his arrival in the city of Boston, the conk he received, and his brother
Reginald. These three symbols changed his life forever. Also all of them were connected as well.
Malcolm X, being from Lansing, Michigan, never expected his life to change as drastically as it did.
Growing up in Lansing, Malcolm was exposed to the negative parts of the city. He even predicted his
own death to happen due to violence since most of his family was victims of violence. In Lansing,
hardly any black man died from natural causes. In chapter one of the book, Malcolm stated that his
father, Earl Little, had seen four of his six brothers die by violence, three of them killed by white men,
including one by lynching. When Malcolm s mother found out that Malcolm s father was murdered,
she had a mental breakdown. For several months, she had been doing things out of the ordinary and
Malcolm began to worry about her. She eventually was sent to the mental illness home where she
spent the rest of her life. All of the children were separated and this gave Malcolm the perception that
now his family has been a victim to society. In the summer of 1940, Malcolm spends the entire
summer with his sister Ella who had been living in the city of Boston. Seeing how much better life

Fear In The Alchemist
H. P. Lovecraft has once quoted in his book of Supernatural Horror in Literature that, the oldest and
strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.
The fear of the unknown is the greatest fear among all fears; meanwhile, the way to achieve our
dreams, or put it in different words, our Personal Legend, lies within the fear of the unknown. The
spiritual adventurous, fantasy novel The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho, brings out the journey of
a young boy named Santiago searching for his Personal Legend. The role of fear dominates the story
of Santiago s journey of achieving his Personal Legend; the confrontation with the fear of the
unknown by Santiago throughout the story has become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am passionate about visiting different buildings and taking photos of them when I travel. The
buildings amaze me by the height, the elegance and contemporary design and even the heritage
buildings that represents the history of the country. There are some designs that are noteworthy, for
example, the ArtScience Museum in Singapore, the Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Sydney Opera
House, Taipei 101, The Town Walls in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany, and so on. They are all
fascinating constructions where no one can resist visiting them while travelling. I have always thought
that becoming an architect is just an effortless work, until I searched the experiences of a real
architect. There was one architect who elucidated that it would be a lengthy and tedious with all the
studying that I would have to do. First, there are four years of undergraduate architecture program,
then I have to gain one year of working experience. After one year of working, I have to get back to
studying master degree of architecture for two years, after that, I will have to work and take exams to
become a registered architect. After seeing the immense workload to become an architect, I feared that
I cannot make it through all the studying, exams and most of all, high standards of work. The path
towards my ambition of becoming an architect faded from my mind, and I had no idea how to renew
my vision. I dreaded about this, and then I decided to talk with my parents. They have said that I
should challenge myself with a tough task, then I would know what I am capable of. In The
Alchemist, Santiago has given both direct and indirect advices by the people he met throughout the
journey from Spain to Egypt, but I had no advices on making decisions of my career

For example, there is less mass in the Universe than predicted. While some have confidently expected
that the missing mass would be located, it has yet to be found. Could the next few years throw up a
completely new theory of how the Universe started? Robotics and artificial intelligence, commonly
known as AI, are two related fields of research which promise much. One of the best known schemes
is the Cog Project a humanoid robot that can act, talk and even look like a person. Hans Moravec, an
AI pioneer, believes that by 2030 robots will be able to visualise tasks and assess the consequences of
their actions. By 2040 robots should be able to reason at least as efficiently as people. Moravec even
envisages a world where robots will display superhuman reasoning . By 2050, emotions will be
commonplace because they will help machines to bond with their human masters. All this, however,
raises an intriguing question: will robots be so similar to us that they, too, will start wondering where
they came from? As well as showing awareness of the world, will they be aware of themselves? In
other words, will they be self conscious? By the middle of the next century, we may even begin to
wonder whether such advanced robots, with their enormous mental capacities and physical strength,
pose a threat to their human inventors. The cyborg the fusion of man and machine is another plausible
prospect in our lifetime. Doctors have already devised silicon chips

Agricultural Literacy In Agriculture
Agriculture is a staple of every community, people have just lost sight of that. Smith and Park (2006)
report, In 1900, 41% of the American population was employed in agriculture, as compared to 1.9% of
the population in 2002 . How have we become so far removed from the agricultural life that we
believe the propaganda spread about it? Smith and Park (2006) explain why ignorance to agricultural
life has thrived,
Agricultural literacy is an issue that has gained attention in recent years and is a subject of concern to
those in the agriculture business. With fewer agricultural programs offered in schools, generations of
young people are being raised with little knowledge of agriculture. As this cycle continues, lack of
knowledge creates and perpetuates stereotypes concerning farming.
The disconnect between the urban public and rural communities has caused a lot of misunderstandings
on how their food is produced. Balschweid, Thompson, and Cole (1998) state,
As general concerns rise over the way our food is produced, public impressions are tainted by the
actions of special interest groups (Lichte Birkenholz, 1993). As a result, many Americans elect and
influence lawmakers to directly intervene in the practices used in producing our food and fiber
(Hamlin,1962). Because this nation is two full generations removed from living and working on
farms, lawmakers cannot be expected to make informed decisions regarding the safe and appropriate
production of our food supply (Flood

GFP Protein Lab Report
The purpose of this lab was to purify and test a GFP protein via several laboratory methods for the
purpose of purifying and testing the protein in SDS PAGE. To purify the protein chromatography and
gel electrophoresis were the methods used in the experiment. GFP in the samples were tested using an
ultraviolet light. When GFP was found present the cell were transformed into a petri dish containing
ampicillin and arabinose. The cells were then lysed and SDS PAGE was used to test. The results from
the SDS PAGE were inconclusive revealing there was no GFP present in the samples two through
four. Introduction The purpose of this lab was to purify GFP protein using different laboratory

A Brief Look at Potatoes
Currently, the potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the fourth food most consumed worldwide, after rice,
wheat and corn. It is important constituent of people s diet from different countries, being grown on
over 18 million acres spread over 125 countries (FAO, 2009). The Solanum tuberosum L. is
considered the main vegetable crop both in cultivated area and in food preference, competing mainly
with tomato within this sector. Potato is one of the most nutritious foods for humans. It has good
quality protein and a high index of biological value. It is one of the crops that has the highest
production of energy and protein per hectare per day. Potatoes are a great source of vitamin C; eating
only one unit provides 45 percent of human daily recommendation; they are among the top sources of
potassium. They also have a good value of vitamin B6, protein, and fiber (about 9 percent of the daily
recommendation). However, potatoes are a major source of energy, because they provide simple and
complex carbohydrates (one potato of 148 grams has 26 grams of carbohydrates). Formerly, the
production and consumption of potatoes was concentrated in the countries of Europe and North
America, and the European continent had the highest production. But there are over twenty years
when this began to change, because the production of Latin America, Africa and Asia began to grow
dramatically, due to the area planted with the crop becoming increasingly larger in this area. Currently

Evaluation Of A Semi Structured Interview
Analysis of Results In order to meet the study objectives, in addition to the case study, a semi
structured interview was conducted using non random sampling. As respondents of the interview had
to have particular characteristics such as ability to value property and knowledge about the property
market, estate agents were contacted. A total of 7 interviews were conducted with estate agents in the
West Hampstead/Kilburn area. The interviews lasted approximately 10 minutes. The participants were
as follows: Table 2: Participants Participant Company 1 Maygrove Estates 2 Hunters 3 Foxtons 4
Foxtons 5 Dutch and Dutch 6 Plasso 7 Plasso All the participants had between 6 months to 6 years of
experience of being an estate agent. As stated previously, recording the interviews was not allowed
due to confidentiality reasons therefore there might be a slight bias in the responses as they were
written by the interviewer and not transcribed. For each question the analysis involved coding the
answer by placing it into a category. Once the categories were established they were placed into a
table and the frequency of each was recorded. The method of analysis is a descriptive method of
frequency distribution. For each question a table of the frequency of distribution is presented together
with a bar chart followed by an analysis of the results and discussion. The raw data is available in the

Consequences Of The Middle Passage
With South Carolina s fertile land that was great for growing crops, such as rice, indigo, and cotton, it
wasn t long before slaves began being brought into the colony. Many people came to South Carolina
from the Barbados and already had a well developed slave system in place, so they brought it with
them. While some slaves came from the Barbados, most of the slaves were brought over from Africa,
and more specifically, the west coast of Africa. From Africa, they travelled to the New World via
Middle Passage. The Middle Passage was part of the triangular trade that existed between America,
Europe, and Africa. It was an extremely harsh boat ride in which slaves from Africa were brought to
the West Indies. The Africans were tightly packed

Cultural Differences Between Australia And The United States
Upon deploying military assets to any country, there must be an understanding of the operational
variables, such as the host nations populations appeal to having said force occupy their territory and
understanding how it will factor into achieving those goals in order to meet the mission requirements.
Australia and the United States (U.S.) have had a long standing robust relationship supported by
shared democratic values, common interests, and cultural similarities. Both countries have now shared
diplomatic relations for 78 years, proving to be one of our longest standing allies behind the French
(U.S. Department of State, 2017). Australia has shared dual responsibility with the U.S. through

Advanced demand planning technology surpasses spreadsheet based efforts by calculating the best
possible demand prediction based on several inputs, including past performance of related products or
unrelated products that share key attributes in addition to any data generated by pre launch market
testing. According to Gartner, New product launch forecasting is overly reliant on sales and marketing
for demand inputs. Opportunities exist to remove forecast bias by utilizing attribute modeling
techniques and solutions that use similar product introductions to understand consumer/ customer trial
and repeat, as well as volume build assumptions, to improve the forecast. Sell In, Sell Through, and
Maturation The demand profile ramps up as introductory promotions, advertising support, and word
ofmouth combine to create an initial strong demand, then dips as the sell through period gives way to
the maturation phase, with its own promotions and marketing programs attempting to shape demand
over time. As the product life cycle unfolds, the demand planning solution compares actual demand
versus the forecast. Statistical matching algorithms can be used to determine just how significantly
actual demand has deviated from the prediction. The predictive accuracy of other demand profiles can
be compared, and when a different profile provides a better match to the actual demand signal, it is
swapped into play.

Summary of Grant Writing for Dummies Overview Essay
Part I Setting the Stage with Grant Basics Chapter one helped clarify grant terminology that I may run
into while conducting grant research and filling out grant applications. I found this useful because I
now have a better understanding of what certain grants are looking for and the grant language that is
needed. This chapter also helped me learn how to set up a plan for keeping track of the grants I am
working on and helped set up the process. The second chapter goes over how to create and complete
funding plans for each grant. It stresses that without a plan it is difficult to have a successful grant
process. This chapter has useful suggestions on what to look for within an organization to decide
where funding is needed. The third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these sites I have previewed and I think they will help me find grants that are available in our
area that we have not solicited at this time. The seventh chapter covers finding grants for individuals.
This chapter will probably not benefit my work at the Conservancy but it was interesting to see the
types of individual grants that are available and where to look for them. The eighth chapter covers
international grants and funding. I m not sure while working for this chapter I will use this information
but once again it was useful to know that there are resources out there to help with these types of
grants if I ever need them.
Part III Playing by the rules of the Grants Game
Chapters nine and ten are chapters that will help me prepare and write what the reviewers of
government grants are looking for. Each of these chapters covered tips that helped me learn what to
look for while looking for grants. This information will help me know which grants are going to be
right or wrong for our organization based on the qualifications. It was interesting to read that some
grants have picky qualifications and long processes before even submitting a request; while other
grants have quick and easy forms to fill out. It also stressed that with grant writing it is important to
follow all rules and read all guidelines. If you miss something that the grant reviewer wants you can
lose your funding request. The eleventh chapter was interesting because

Advantages Of Multilevel Inverter
CHAPTER 3
MULTILEVEL INVERTER TOPOLOGIES AND CONTROL SCHEME
3.1. Multilevel Inverter
Multilevel inverters have ability to generate low switching frequency high quality output waveforms
with several high voltages and higher power applications and the general structure of multilevel
converter is synthesizes a sinusoidal voltage from several level of voltages. The multilevel inverter has
overcome the limitations of conventional two level voltage converters. The advantages of multilevel
inverter are higher power quality, lower switching losses, low electromagnetic interference and higher
voltage capability.
The voltage source inverter gives an output voltage or a current with levels either 0 or ±V_dc. They
are known as two level inverter. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, input node voltages and currents can be referred to the input terminal voltages of the
inverter with reference to ground point and the corresponding currents from each node of the
capacitors to the inverter respectively. As an example, input node (dc) currents by I_1,I_2 etc., and
input node (dc) voltages are designed by V_1,V_2, etc as shown in Figure 1a. V_a,V_b and V_c are
the root mean square (rms) values of line load voltages; I_a,I_b and I_c are the rms values of the line
load currents. Figure 3.1 a shows the schematic of a pole in a multilevel inverter where V_a indicates
an output phase voltage that can predicted at any voltage level depending on the selection of node (dc)
voltage V_1,V_2 etc. By connecting switch to one node at a time, one can easily obtain the desired
output. Figure 3.2 shows the typical output voltage of a five level inverter. The structure of multilevel
inverter must (1) have less switching devices as far as possible, (2) have capability of withstanding at
very high input voltage for high power applications, and (3) have lower switching frequency for each

Effects Of Communist Manifesto On Human Values
The Effects of Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto on Human Values
What was it like living in the times before the Communist Manifesto was introduced to society? What
kind of affect did this document have on the values of the average family? How did it influence the
values of the individual? Sometimes these values where affected in a way that does not come directly
from the release of the Manifesto but instead vicariously through other events brought on by the
document. Overall, an interesting topic to look at is what it meant to be human in the 1840 s. France is
representative of European nations at that time. Through France, the effects of the Communist
Manifesto on human values are evident.

Likewise, many of the old workers had been thrown out of employment, 3 and these numbers only
grew into the year of 1848. In a way Marx talks about this problem in the Communist Manifesto. In
this document, Marx introduced his idea to incorporate socialism into the government before
communism. This is mainly because socialism would prepare the way by nationalizing the means of
production and putting them under the control of those he viewed as the sole producers of wealth: the
workers. 4 This would take the control out of the hands of the wealthy and it would be given to those
people that had been the poorest in the previous years. His goal was to get the common people to have
a changed view of work once they started to be in charge of the producing of goods. This way, there
would be no rich and no poor, only economic equality would result.
Marx was intent on the subject of human change. Marx was often confronted with the charge that he
was trying to change human nature. However, his rebuttal was that human nature [had] changed many
times in the past, 5 and that it was possible to change it again. He acknowledged that it would have to
be a gradual change, but it was able to change. After all, we as humans are products of our
environment, particularly of the economic system in which we live. 6 The government and its actions

The Era Of The Colonial Era
1. The Colonial Era
In this era people were self dependent on growing their own food as well as making clothes for
themselves. In today s times we rely on retail shopping for our clothes and food. There are separate
markets for each providing room for progress in society.
As far as the business side goes in this era, most businesses were small and relied on local profit alone.
In society today, while small businesses do still exist more often than not most corporations are
relying on profit across the globe. This way more profit and jobs can be made.
The Industrial Era
The factory system was just being developed in this era. This was the beginning of a major way in
which businesses would grow. Still today we use techniques for this time bust we have improved on
the efficiency of how products are made. Also putting laws in place for no child labor which was a
great improvement.
Specialty or larger stores began to compete with the general or smaller stores that were prominent in
the previous era. Trade became less important, and with this the market economy was born. We have
improved this system with finding a good balance in big corporations and smaller businesses. This
allows the system to function much easier and there is much more room for success from several
companies, not just a few.
The age of Titans
Some called this the second industrial revolution. This was an age of many people building business
empires. To this day many businesses

  • 2. The Effects Of Malnutrition On Educational Disparities The Impact of Malnutrition on Educational Disparities in Africa By: Merette Khalil and Blessing Kuebee, African Students Association At the start of the millennium, various United Nations (UN) partners came together to tackle some of the world s deadliest and most pressing social and economic problems, and in doing so, established the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In the past 15 years, the MDGs have been evaluated and re evaluated. This year the UN has declared a new set of 17 goals for the next 15 years called the Sustainable Development Goals. The first issue on both agendas is the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, a problem that is specifically significant for the entire continent of Africa. Clarifying a few terms based on the World Food Program s definition is essential to understanding the scope of the problem. Hunger is not having enough to eat to meet energy requirements. It can lead to malnutrition, which is a condition when one s diet does not provide adequate nutrients for growth and maintenance or when a person is not able to adequately utilize the food consumed due to illness. Undernutrition, being nutrient deficient, being underweight and even being overweight are all complications that result from hunger. Undernourishment is when a person is not able to acquire enough food to meet the daily minimum dietary energy requirements, over a period of one year. Wasting is rapid weight loss or a failure to gain weight and is strongly related ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Words Affecting A Child s Second Language A child s first words, a jumble of sounds that no longer sound like gibberish, which cause grown men and women to turn into ecstatic five year olds, and show the beginning of a child s path in learning language. From that point and onwards the child only picks up more words, understanding their meaning and the context in which they can be used, but eventually that child speaks a different kind of first word. A first word that causes those same parents to cringe, and flinch in disgust, as these are the common reactions that society wants one to believe occur in response to the use of vulgar words. These words that are taboo in society in every culture, and all corners of the world, words that caused many to learn what soap tastes like, to know what it feels like to get an earful for saying a mouthful, and also understand the pain that come from the instinctive smack to the back of the head from a ... These obscene words are in frequent use still, as in reality they play a vital function of helping to relieve stress, become more persuasive, and help manage pain. Already these various patterns of letters (known as words ) help us to communicate our emotions to others from love to hate, happiness to sadness, and many other deep and complex feelings. By excluding cuss words, it infringes on our ability to communicate and express ourselves, almost directly limiting a right to a freedom of speech. By as a society conforming and allowing these expressions to be used, it will help to expand the fundamental values of the human race by expanding this constitutional right as well as allowing us as a whole to feel the benefits these expletives can ... • 4. Redemption In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter As soon as Adam and Eve took a bite of the forbidden fruit, the utopian idea ceased to exist. Because of Adam and Eve s disobedience, society today is full of sinners. However people may not be able to avoid the fate that awaits them, but fortunately, freedom allows people to respond to their sin. Some will respond with guilt and pains, while others will live a life of redemption. Similarly, Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his novel The Scarlet Letter, shows two characters that deal with their sins differently. Though Hester and Dimmesdale both suffer, Dimmesdale suffers more by concealing his sin, his blindness to his companion, Roger Chillingworth, and the pain he feels on his chest. Hester Prynne has to deal with her sin publicly. The people of her village condemn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is forced to wear the scarlet letter, A for adultery. In Chapter 13, Hawthorne skips ahead seven years and during these years, Hester has been pure from any sin. • 5. Essay on The Moment of Inertia of a Disk and a Ring Objective: The objective of this laboratory was to theoretically calculate the moment of inertia of a disk and a ring and then to verify the moment of inertia for both objects through experiment. This laboratory shows that while the theoretical is not within the uncertainty of the experimental, both values are extremely similar to each other. Data and Analysis: Data: Table 1: The Angular Acceleration of No Ring and Ring Trial No Ring Ring 5g 4.57 ± 0.005 rad/s2 1.32 ± 0.005 rad/s2 10g 13.16 ± 0.005 rad/s2 3.09 ± 0.005 rad/s2 15g 20.45 ± 0.005 rad/s2 4.83 ± 0.005 rad/s2 20g 27.89 ± 0.005 rad/s2 6.60 ± 0.005 rad/s2 25g 35.65 ± 0.005 rad/s2 8.35 ± 0.005 rad/s2 Table 2: The Average Experimental and Theoretical Moment of Inertia for No ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This calculation will be done later on. After using equation 1 to find the experimental moment of inertia, the average and standard deviation of the five trials for No Ring and Ring were calculated using Excel commands for average and standard deviation. The averages will be used later on in order to calculate the experimental moment of inertia for the ring. In the next step, the theoretical moment of inertia was calculated for the disk by using equation 2. I_disk^th=1/2 M_d R_d^2 (2) In the equation above, the I_disk^th is the theoretical moment of inertia of the disk, M_d is the mass of the disk, Rd is the radius of the disk. Next, the theoretical moment of inertia of the Ring was calculated using equation 3 below. I_ring^th=1/2 M_r (R_1^2+R_2^2) (3) In the equation above, I_ring^this the theoretical moment of inertia of the Ring, Mr is the mass of the ring, R_1^2 is the inner radius of the ring, and R_2^2 is the outer radius of the ring. In order to compare the experimental and theoretical moments of inertia of the Ring, the experimental moment of inertia of the ring alone has to be calculated. It is given that the experimental moment of the system equals to the experimental moment of inertia of the ring plus the experimental moment of inertia of the disk. • 6. Examples Of Generation Gap In A Raisin In The Sun Bernard Rosenberg, an author who wrote books about societal issues in the 1970s, once wrote, Generation Gap: A chasm, amorphously situated in time and space, that separates those who have grown up absurd from those who will, with luck, grow up absurd. People grown up in different environments or times have their own morals or methods of operation that would not be politically correct today. This leads to a generation gap between young and old people. The difference between an educated twenty year old with prodigious dreams (Beneatha) and a conservative woman in her early sixties (Mama) is demonstrated In A Raisin in the Sun written by Lorraine Hansberry with how it shows generation separates dreams, values, and cultural perspectives as shown with Beneatha and Mama. Beneatha and Mama s dreams are separated because of Beneatha s dreams of becoming a doctor. Female doctors in the 1950s were seen not as accredible in their field. When Ruth tells Mama about her appointment for her pregnancy and the female doctor she went to, Mama says, She What doctor you went to? (61). To Mama going to a female doctor is seen as giving up the baby which is the worst thing possible in Mama s mind. Mama undermines Beneatha as a doctor or any other female doctor because Mama was raised in a generation where the workforce was dominated by men while women were housewives. Another choice Mama disagrees with is Beneatha choice to not get married. Mama pesters Beneatha many times about marriage, but Beneatha never agreed. This was shown when Beneatha said, I m going to be a doctor. I m not worried about who I m going to marry if I ever get married (50). Beneatha wants to be a strong independent female doctor and not a housewife; besides, Mama believes that women should be married; nevertheless, they should not take on such a male dominated job. Many times Mama pushes Beneatha to marry a rich man, George Murchison, instead of supporting her dreams because Beneatha s dreams are not the traditional life style. Beneatha pushes through Mama s beliefs on marriage and female doctors to still continue her dreams of being a doctor. Between Mama and Beneatha there is a vast generation gap as seen in the opposing views. Beneatha and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Comparing Shakespeare And Branagh s Adaptation Of As You... As You Like It unravels one of William Shakespeare s greatest pastoral comedies. Set in France, the play emphasizes the tension between the city and courtly world from the country or, for the purposes of this play, the green world. Shakespeare intensifies the tension between city and country by intertwining major themes of love and performance. Although the play begins in France, it mostly takes place within the confines of the forest of Arden. Through her transformable identity, Rosalind demonstrates the endless possibilities of the green world by wandering around Arden and resolving the troubles of love and marriage. Although Shakespeare s pastoral comedy permeates a space of nostalgia, it more or less presents a play about lovers. On the other hand, Kenneth Branagh s 2007 film adaptation of As You Like It presents an altered interpretation of Shakespeare s pastoral comedy by focusing on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His blending of Japanese aspects creates an unrealistic and over theatrical sensation. The setting displays a theatrical aspect which reminds me of the last line of the haiku, All the world s a stage, also one of Shakespeare s most famous lines. Branagh s use of setting deepens the way I look at the passage of time in the text. Jacques claims that all men and women are players in a staged world; [they] have their exits and their entrances, / And one man in his time plays many parts, / His acts being seven ages (AYLI.2.7.140 142). The setting of Branagh s film in Japan is a set stage, which leads me to believe that Jacques statement is a set speech that unifies all plays. If the world is a stage than this play could be set anywhere, and the occurrences and struggles can be found anywhere in the world, not just in the city, but in the countryside too as we find true in Arden. What is decision making? Defining decision making is a hard task just as it would be to define knowledge: it is a process we use on a daily basis, but when it comes to find a way to describe how it works we encounter many obstacles. That is due to the fact that each one of us has his/her unique decision making process, which is continuously built in time. Several academic definition of decision making exist, depending on the kind of situation in which the decision takes place. For a manager, the decision making is a core process, and unfortunately half of the decision taken by management in an organization fail (Nutt, 1999), thus key importance has been given lately in researching this field. A business related definition states that decision making is the thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options . This definition highlights that despite the wish of giving to this process an objective and constant trait, both time and subjectiveness are instead crucial. As a matter of fact, when a decision has to be made, even if it is a business decisions, not only rationality comes into the picture: past experience, cognitive biases, age and individual differences, belief in personal relevance, and an escalation of commitment, all influence what choices people make (Dietrich, 2010). Animals play a significant role in our existence, they involve in food chain and help in the sustainability of bio diversity. This bridge has become the symbol of Bristol much like the Eiffel tower has of Paris, and the Opera house has of Sydney. The story of the Clifton Suspension Bridge began in 1754 with the dream of a Bristol wine merchant who donated his life savings to build a bridge over the gorge. To decide on a suitable design for the bridge a competition was held. Thomas Telford, the leading civil architect of the time was the judge. Apparently a local land owner wished to drive his carriage to Bristol without having to walk or negotiate the steep roads on the sides of the gorge, so he convinced the engineers, and paid for the necessary modifications to widen the design of the bridge. It is fortunate that he insisted on this widening because the bridge as it was originally designed would have never been able to cater to modern traffic demands. The bridge was finished in 1859 and opened to the public in 1864. Before the bridge was built the slip way was the only way to cross the river without taking a long detour. The slip way was crossed at high tide by rowing a boat across, and at low tide by crossing on series gangplanks that were tied together. Both crossings were fairly dangerous and extremely inconvenient and therefore a bridge was a very popular idea. The Clifton Suspension bridge is world famous and one of the essential things to see in the West Country. It is a beautiful piece of engineering that is lovely maintained by the bridge staff. The two towers of the bridge span from Clifton to summerset, the Clifton tower is build on a solid rock surface that acts as a foundation, however the summerset tower needed a massive brick buttress before work on the tower could begin. In the war between Norway and German, children always have to pull gold on the sled because Germans can take them. They carry more than 100kg. It will be really hard. And by hurting, sure it can be like shooting gun hurting, but if our heart hurts, it really hurts. Like with war, when people pass away, think about it. How will their family feel?? Really, really sad. So I think like war, we shouldn t make it happen. I was able to identify with Peter who was afraid at first to be the leader but later on he did a great job. I strongly recommend this book because it is touching and it shows how children has done a great job, with very responsible actions. I was very moved with Jan Lasek because even if he can die, he risked his life for Peter. How touching and amazing is that?? I think I can t have done it. I was inspired with Uncle Victor s idea. • 19. John Adams And Abraham Lincoln Despite the disparity in the popularity ratings between the two presidents, John Adams and Abraham Lincoln are both indispensable figures in American history. In times of crisis, both of these men made big, consequential decisions to keep the country from falling apart. However, while Lincoln is commemorated for abolishing slavery and leading the Union in the Civil War, John Adams is remembered for the mistakes of his presidency the Alien and Sedition Acts he issued that took away certain constitutional rights endowed to the American people. Both presidents thought they were doing what was necessary at the time to keep the United States from falling apart, but the contrasting approaches they used left opposite impressions. This can be contributed to the fact that almost all aspects of their lives, personal and professional, were opposite. So, while both presidents essentially did the same thing in saving America from falling apart, their reputations are so different now because of the way their lives and situations influenced the decisions they made. HBO s John Adams begins in 1770, as the colonies are on their way to revolting against the British Crown. The series begins with Adams life right before the revolution and follows the rest of his life for the first fifty or so years of American history. Before having anything to do with politics, John was a lawyer, a fairly successful one. He and his wife Abigail have an amazing relationship. Abigail makes up for all of John s ... In The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley, the three main things that effected Malcolm s life was his arrival in the city of Boston, the conk he received, and his brother Reginald. These three symbols changed his life forever. Also all of them were connected as well. Malcolm X, being from Lansing, Michigan, never expected his life to change as drastically as it did. Growing up in Lansing, Malcolm was exposed to the negative parts of the city. He even predicted his own death to happen due to violence since most of his family was victims of violence. In Lansing, hardly any black man died from natural causes. In chapter one of the book, Malcolm stated that his father, Earl Little, had seen four of his six brothers die by violence, three of them killed by white men, including one by lynching. When Malcolm s mother found out that Malcolm s father was murdered, she had a mental breakdown. For several months, she had been doing things out of the ordinary and Malcolm began to worry about her. She eventually was sent to the mental illness home where she spent the rest of her life. All of the children were separated and this gave Malcolm the perception that now his family has been a victim to society. In the summer of 1940, Malcolm spends the entire summer with his sister Ella who had been living in the city of Boston. Seeing how much better life was for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Smith and Park (2006) report, In 1900, 41% of the American population was employed in agriculture, as compared to 1.9% of the population in 2002 . How have we become so far removed from the agricultural life that we believe the propaganda spread about it? Smith and Park (2006) explain why ignorance to agricultural life has thrived, Agricultural literacy is an issue that has gained attention in recent years and is a subject of concern to those in the agriculture business. With fewer agricultural programs offered in schools, generations of young people are being raised with little knowledge of agriculture. As this cycle continues, lack of knowledge creates and perpetuates stereotypes concerning farming. The disconnect between the urban public and rural communities has caused a lot of misunderstandings on how their food is produced. Balschweid, Thompson, and Cole (1998) state, As general concerns rise over the way our food is produced, public impressions are tainted by the actions of special interest groups (Lichte Birkenholz, 1993). As a result, many Americans elect and influence lawmakers to directly intervene in the practices used in producing our food and fiber (Hamlin,1962). Because this nation is two full generations removed from living and working on farms, lawmakers cannot be expected to make informed decisions regarding the safe and appropriate production of our food supply (Flood ... It is important constituent of people s diet from different countries, being grown on over 18 million acres spread over 125 countries (FAO, 2009). The Solanum tuberosum L. is considered the main vegetable crop both in cultivated area and in food preference, competing mainly with tomato within this sector. Potato is one of the most nutritious foods for humans. It has good quality protein and a high index of biological value. It is one of the crops that has the highest production of energy and protein per hectare per day. Potatoes are a great source of vitamin C; eating only one unit provides 45 percent of human daily recommendation; they are among the top sources of potassium. They also have a good value of vitamin B6, protein, and fiber (about 9 percent of the daily recommendation). However, potatoes are a major source of energy, because they provide simple and complex carbohydrates (one potato of 148 grams has 26 grams of carbohydrates). Formerly, the production and consumption of potatoes was concentrated in the countries of Europe and North America, and the European continent had the highest production. But there are over twenty years when this began to change, because the production of Latin America, Africa and Asia began to grow dramatically, due to the area planted with the crop becoming increasingly larger in this area. Advanced demand planning technology surpasses spreadsheet based efforts by calculating the best possible demand prediction based on several inputs, including past performance of related products or unrelated products that share key attributes in addition to any data generated by pre launch market testing. According to Gartner, New product launch forecasting is overly reliant on sales and marketing for demand inputs. Opportunities exist to remove forecast bias by utilizing attribute modeling techniques and solutions that use similar product introductions to understand consumer/ customer trial and repeat, as well as volume build assumptions, to improve the forecast. Sell In, Sell Through, and Maturation The demand profile ramps up as introductory promotions, advertising support, and word ofmouth combine to create an initial strong demand, then dips as the sell through period gives way to the maturation phase, with its own promotions and marketing programs attempting to shape demand over time. As the product life cycle unfolds, the demand planning solution compares actual demand versus the forecast. Statistical matching algorithms can be used to determine just how significantly actual demand has deviated from the prediction. The predictive accuracy of other demand profiles can be compared, and when a different profile provides a better match to the actual demand signal, it is swapped into play. Likewise, many of the old workers had been thrown out of employment, 3 and these numbers only grew into the year of 1848. In a way Marx talks about this problem in the Communist Manifesto. In this document, Marx introduced his idea to incorporate socialism into the government before communism. This is mainly because socialism would prepare the way by nationalizing the means of production and putting them under the control of those he viewed as the sole producers of wealth: the workers. 4 This would take the control out of the hands of the wealthy and it would be given to those people that had been the poorest in the previous years. His goal was to get the common people to have a changed view of work once they started to be in charge of the producing of goods. This way, there would be no rich and no poor, only economic equality would result. Marx was intent on the subject of human change. Marx was often confronted with the charge that he was trying to change human nature. However, his rebuttal was that human nature [had] changed many times in the past, 5 and that it was possible to change it again. In today s times we rely on retail shopping for our clothes and food. There are separate markets for each providing room for progress in society. As far as the business side goes in this era, most businesses were small and relied on local profit alone. In society today, while small businesses do still exist more often than not most corporations are relying on profit across the globe. This way more profit and jobs can be made.
