Analysis Of The Poem Long Black Song By Richard Wright
W.E.B Du Bois makes points of having a double consciousness and being behind a veil. While
Booker T. Washington points out that there is a dignity to be found in fruits from labor. In the
reading of Long Black Song, by Richard Wright, he uses both of these points in his text to make the
story come alive. Although, creatively both Du Bois and Washington s points can be found hidden
within the text; it is clear within this short story that Wright leaned to agree more with Du Bois
points than he did with Washington s points. W.E.B. Du Bois presents two ideas within his text, the
idea that African Americans live behind a veil and the idea that they constantly struggle with a
double consciousness. Double consciousness to Du Bois was a... Show more content on

I said that any individual who learned to do something better than anybody else learned to do a
common thing in an uncommon manner had solved his problem, regardless of the colour of his
skin, and that in proportion as the Negro learned to produce what other people wanted and must
have, in the same proportion would he be respected. (Washington 76 77) Washington is basically
saying dignity in labor means that African American men will earn respect if they provide white
men with something useful, such as things you can get from working hard in a field and selling
it to white men. This will show them you are valuable and therefore they will respect you. The
right to be respected by white man has been earned and thus it will be given. Long Black Song
starts out with hints towards Du Bois idea of the veil with the lines, She saw green fields
wrapped in the thickening gloam. It was as if they had left the earth, those fields, and were
floating slowly skyward. (Wright 65) The terms such as thickening and floating give the image of
being behind or on something. The idea that the fields are being pulled into a veil. These lines
give a bit of foreshadowing to the story when you read between them leading us to whether Wright
will side with Du Bois or Washington at the end of the story. Also the

Theories Of Motivation And Motivation
2.2Motivation
Kressler (2003, 1 2) defines motivation as a rationale behind human behavior; anyone who has
motives is motivated and has reasons and causes for their actions and inaction. Rationale to work is
generally a combination of necessity to work, to satisfy individual needs and to avoid frustration.
However motivation is highly personal and people react differently to motivational factors.
Armstrong (2006, 317) continues that motivation has three dimension; direction that tells what
person is trying to do, effort which explains how hard persons is trying and persistence that
clarifies how long person keeps on trying. Motivation shortly is a goal directed behavior where
actions lead to a valued reward and as Pinder (2008, 11) defines: Work motivation is a set of
energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond individual s being to initiate work

However not in all organizations employees are responsible of their career development and it
might need managerial presence in order to be achieved. For that rewards like incentives,
promotions, praises and appraisals are created. It is how ever argued whether rewards affect to
work motivation or just the quality of working life since it is commonly agreed that monetary
rewards like bonuses or incentives have only short time effect on human behavior and motivation
is a long run matter. Cam eron Pierce (2002, 11) even claimed that money or other high rewards
can be harmful or lead to negative motivation if they are frequently used since employees might
get used to it and when monetary rewards are being discontinued it can make them do less and
more importantly enjoy less of their doing since there is no reward

school s community. She along with a few others try and put a stop to it before anyone else gets

Justice In Plato s Apology
Plato s Apology, is the Greek philosopher Plato s account of the trial of Socrates. In the Apology,
Socrates is confronted with the charges of corrupting the youth of Athens, and of not believing in
the Greek gods. The charges were presented by a jury of five hundred Athenians. Throughout the
trial, Socratespresents a series of arguments to the jury, proclaiming his innocence. Chiefly among
Socrates arguments is the argument of justice versus injustice. At many points throughout the
account, Socrates declares the charges against him as unjust, in his understanding of the term
justice . He begs the question of how a court of law could unjustly accuse him of these crimes.
Through Socrates dialogue, he expresses his views on public office.... Show more content on

Through this brief examination, we will attempt to gain a better understanding of Socrates views
of justice, how they relate to his apparent disbelief in the ability to realize justice through public
office, and how Socrates views on justice and public office are relevant in the modern world.
To understand Socrates ideas of justice, one must read further into the works of Plato. Socrates
acknowledges the vast and broad idea of justice, and attempts to answer the question of what is
justice? through debate. In the Republic, Plato writes about Socrates, and of a meeting between
him and many other Greek men. Socrates and his fellow Greeks discuss these ideas of justice
between them. The Greek Polemarchus makes reference to another man, a poet named Simonides,
who believed the justice is, to give to each what is owed to him.
Socrates further extends this definition in common Socratic fashion, by attempting to over throw
the argument with logic. Through further discussion, Socrates and Polemarchus extend the idea of
justice as giving to your friends and taking from your enemies. Although this definition does not
serve Socrates

Political Power Of The United States
The United States is currently built on an illusion of democracy where everyone supposedly has an
equal opportunity and say in society. The issue arises when government fails to identify this
injustice as a problem because the majority of officials tend to benefit from increased political
power. Economic inequality, the uneven distribution of wealthin one direction, is the leading cause
of poverty in the United States, and the number of individuals in poverty continue to grow. The
government has neglected its citizens, and it has taken legislative favorability of the upper class
rather than the middle and lower class. In the essay Rent Seeking and the Making of an Unequal
Society , Joseph Stiglitz identifies rent seeking as a means of... Show more content on

The main problem being the identification of a corporations as a citizens entitled to First
Amendment rights. The U.S campaign finance system has allowed legalized bribery that influences
politicians in favor of corporate interests.
Political campaigns is a method used by the people to nominate officials that harbor the interests of
the public. The Supreme Court ruling would allow corporations to bolster any specific candidate in
exchange for influence, and eliminate any other competition, in effect limiting the choices of the
bottom 99 percent of the population. This gives legitimate candidates that harbor public interests an
extreme disadvantage, and it forces him/her to rely on individual donations or concede partially to
corporate interests. As corporate campaign financing continues, corporate politicians slowly
supersede the number of politicians in favor of the people. Through the years corporations and the
wealthy end up doing phenomenally well while the rest of the nation suffers.
If the politician of corporations succeeds in obtaining a political office they begin to propose tax
cuts on corporate income, the wealthy, and deregulation of industries. As a result, an already
eminent problem becomes worse because tax cuts on the rich make them even wealthier than they
already are. On 2011, Vermont Senator Bernard Sanders stated that in America

Accounting Principles and Health Care Essay
Accounting Principles and Health Care

Accounting Principles and Health Care There are no formal accounting principles that apply to
health care. However, there are five generally accepted guiding principles used in the management
of the financial aspects of health care management (Cleverly, Song Cleverly, 2011). Understanding
the five guiding principles are important in understanding financial information and managerial
accounting and how the principles relate to health care (Cleverly et. al.). The five principles
include, accounting entity, money measurement, duality, cost valuation, and stable monetary unit.

Assets are the resources that the organization has and the money generated. Liabilities are
resources that are owed for services, supplies and other things that the organization has acquired.
The ideal goal of any business is for the assets to be greater than the liabilities (Cleverly et. al.).
Duality Duality is a simple mathematical equation or rather, it seems simple. The equation states,
The value of assets must always equal the combined value of liabilities and residual interest,
which we have called net assets. (Cleverly et. al. pg. 185 para.1) This requires balancing reports
about changes in either side of the equation. In health care, for instance, changes such as buying
supplies, receiving payment for services, or paying the electric bill are all transactions that
require balancing the books, so to speak, so that the equation is still equal. Cost Valuation Cost
Valuation can be defined as choosing the right price for services, supplies and other things of
value (Hutton, 2005). Choosing the right price may be based on the history of what the entity
has paid that is reflected by money measurement or may be based on other measures of what a
cost should be (Cleverly et. al.). Market value is a way to assess a cost value. This seems to be
favorite way with many organizations. This method is not considered

It certainly can be argued that for every quality there is a sort of opposite, of course in many
instances there is an overlap. Considering tradition black and white culture, it s obvious that
some of the things we base these cultural values on are stereotypes at very best. However, the
foundation of black culture in America is in slavery, and the opposite in this instance with
reference to the white culture is in ownership of the African slaves, a kind of forced inequality.
Although the Emancipation Proclamation began a long fight for supposed freedom and equality
of all men, there is residual hatred and contempt even now. In the instance of age being a factor,
typically we look at our elders and bestow upon them the wisdom of the experience their years on
earth have granted them. Age can also lock in old or obsolete ideals. The youth of a society
oftentimes is regarded as more open minded and therefore more willing to roll with the punches
and adapt to the changing times. With reference to the older professor, Hughes makes a subtle
implication that the instructor will view the narrator s assignment as different, as he is the only

To My Dear And Loving Husband Comparison
To my Dear and Loving Husband written by Anne Bradstreet, is the story of a woman admiring
love for her husband. On the other hand, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun written by
William Shakespeare, is the story of the love a man feels for an imperfect woman. Although the
two poems are about love, they interpret it in different ways through rhythmic structure, and
emotional expression.
To my Dear and Loving Husband has an impeccable rhythmic alignment. It starts with repeating if
ever three times in the first three lines. She uses this to express her deep love for her husband and
at the same time to confirm it. In the fourth line, she compares her love for her husband with the
love other women have for their own husbands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is used to connect the last part of every line. Also, the poem is mainly a satire, not a serious
poem like Bradstreet s. Instead of praising his mistress, he emphasizes her imperfections and bad
characteristics. On the other hand, Bradstreet only mentions the good aspects of her husband.
She never says anything negative about him. From the first line to line ten, Shakespeare
describes his mistress not as the typical ideal woman, but as someone ordinary. He expresses this
especially in the fourth line where he uses personification to compare her hair to black wires.
Some of the things he says are; that her eyes are not shiny, her lips are not red, her breast are
brown instead of the perfect white, her breath odor is unpleasant and her voice is not melodious.
He does this to make his poem stand out from the crowd, and also to not make it exactly as other
love poems, such as Bradstreet s. He wants his poem to be more humorous and realistic. In
Bradstreet s poem everything is perfect, and in reality it does not matter what relationship we
are in, perfection does not exist. After he criticizes the woman in all possible ways, his poem
takes a turn. From lines eleven to fourteen, he says that although she is not perfect, he has never
seen somebody as beautiful as her. I grant I never saw a goddess go...And yet by heaven, I think
my love as rare / as any

Tis the season in this dystopia, controlled by pitiless bureaucrats and synergetic police. Terry
Gilliam s Brazil depicts a retro futuristic setting dominated by a relentless totalitarian system. The
setting of Brazil takes place during Christmas in an urban region that is never characterized by

overseen. Uninspiring infrastructure, apathetic socializations, and lack of sanctuaries illustrates this
society and it seems to be an intended tactic by its government. Bulky grey ducts surround the

Observation can be made on a macro and micro scale, as behavior of a large group can affect the
behavior of individuals (Merton, 1938). In Brazil, society is regulated and positioned a certain
way that satisfies its government. Reaching a desirable achieved status seems hard to
accomplish and only possible if conformed to the Ministry s regime. Sam, however, was offered
a promotion by the master status himself, Mr. Helpmann. Seemingly, Sam s promotion offer was
possible because of his ascribed status being the son of Mr. Helpmann s former co worker and
his power hungry mother s connection with the Ministry. The social institution in the world of
Brazil is centralized to abide the Ministry, who targets society to be uniformed and consumers.
Considering the Consumers for Christ signs and the girls who wishes to Santa for her own credit

Jim does not verbally communicate his feelings about Pam to her directly or to the documentary
interview crew. Instead, he shows his feelings through subtle hints or actions throughout the
episode. One example of a verbal hint is during an interview with the documentary crew in
which Jim says ...Um, Pam s favorite flavor of yogurt, which is mixed berry. Although this
seems very minor, it foreshadows Jim s deeper feelings for Pam. In addition to Jim revealing the
subtle hint about his feelings using the yogurt description, in the Pilot episode he also exhibits
his feelings towards Pam in an indirect way. This is evident by his facial expressions and body
language before and after Roy interrupts Jim and Pam s conversation towards the end of the

Thomas Hobbes Inventor Of Determinism
When we look at determinism we see something like a chain of events. Each event leads us to
and causes the next in the chain. From here it certainly looks like our own choices don t matter,
like free will isn t real, but if we look closer and consider some other things we might get a clearer
picture of what is going on and might find free willin this chain somewhere. Lets look at a small
chain of events to see what we are dealing with here. Consider me thinking of writing my paper
right now. I m tired and I have a few other things that I want to do today, all of which are a bit
more enjoyable than homework. From here it seems like I have two choices, I could write my
paper despite not wanting to or I could put it off until tomorrow. Now lets imagine that I put off my
paper. Thomas Hobbes, the inventor of determinism, would say that me not writing my paper was
caused by me wanting to do the other activities on my todo list and that this result was the only one
that could have come from the previously described scenario. That certainly sounds like no matter
what I might have told myself... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Impact Of Virtual Communities And Social Media On The...
Although virtual communities and social media primarily exist in the virtual world, they have
made an impact on the physical world just as much as the virtual one. The Internet is changing
the way people work, relax, interact ... it is changing the way they live their day to day lives.
More and more people are beginning to replace face to face interactions with online interactions
due to the easy interaction offered by online platforms. These new found virtual communities are
new ways of interaction that have been made possible by the Internet. Social media and virtual
communities have become to be part of every day life, and are with this, beginning to replace
the interactions taking place in physical spaces. This idea is presented by Rheingold s A Slice of
Life , in which he presents the first, second, and third places to describe the essential social
surroundings in people s life and their community. The first is the social environment of one s
home, and those that one lives with, which is the most private and personal space one has. The
second is the office, or where one works, which has a presumed order and day to day routine. The
third place is the place people gather for conviviality, which includes environments such as cafes
and parks, and are of vast importance due to them allowing for interactions holding society together
and establishing feelings of a sense of place. These third places are shifting to the virtual world, due

Traumatic Brain Injury Can Ruin Your Entire Life
Head (Brain) injury is known as a major public health problem that is a frequent cause of death and
disability in young people, Among the many challenges that survivors of traumatic brain injury
must face, behavior problems rank among the most difficult. Traumatic brain injury, or TBI, is a
type of brain injury that occurs when trauma causes damage to the brain. It can cause when a
person s head suddenly or violently hits an object, or an object hits the person, and damages the
brain tissue. A person with a TBI may remain conscious or he/she might be unconscious for a few
minutes. Some symptoms of TBI include headache, confusion, lightheadedness, dizziness, blurred
vision or tired eyes, ringing in the ears, bad taste in the mouth, fatigue or lethargy, a change in sleep
patterns, behavioral or mood changes, and trouble with memory, concentration, attention, or
thinking. These symptoms might be experienced by any person with mild, moderate to severe TBI
(Real Warriors).
According to me, any type of TBI can become a big problem in the future, then it doesn t matter
if it s mild or a severe injury. It might also be such a big problem nowadays because of many
reasons, one of which can be cultural beliefs. The amount of people suffering from TBI is
increasing dramatically because of the careless decisions made by the people.
Severity of Traumatic brain injuries can be classified into mild, moderate, and severe categories.

Social Criticism In Anna Christie
In 1887, one year prior to Eugene O Neill s birth, the first vote on women s suffrage is taken in
the Senate and fails. (Scholastic). In 1955, the year following O Neill s death, a woman, Rosa
Parks, became the symbol for the civil rights movement. While these two events can seem
unrelated, they frame the time in which Eugene O Neill lived where the structure of gender
roles in society experienced radical changes. Women received voting rights, as well as more
legal and workplace rights that had never existed before. Men also encountered change, given
that World War I resulted in a large segment of the male population leaving country. There is no
doubt that literature has always been used as an avenue of social commentary; however, O Neill
used his work in innovative ways to express his distaste at certain societal ideals. Doris M.
Alexander writes, The main trend in Eugene O Neills social criticism is negative... Whatever hope
he sees for man lies in individuals who may have the courage to possess their own souls (363). A
prime of example of an individuals who do possess their own souls are present in Anna Christie.
Anna and Marthy, the main womancharacters, are both examples of O Neill s experiments into
writing more well rounded and independent women, much like the women of the 1920 s. Despite
Marthy only appearing in the first act, her personality reveals itself so quickly that the audience
does not need much more. In fact, O Neill s vivid stage directions might even

Summary Of Unnatural Causes
Episode one of the video series Unnatural Causes focuses on two very important topics that are of
extreme importance, they are Sickness and Wealth. Sickness and wealth is what the typical
person in life wants to have. The video starts off with opening in Louisville, Kentucky explore
why people get sick and why certain sickness and health depend on race and social class. The
video walks through the lives of different social classes to have a better understanding of how
people in each class live. A CEO, a lab supervisor, a janitor, and an unemployed mother are all
monitored for a period of time to show the audience how each person in their own social live and
what struggles each member from each social class goes through. People who are in the lower
class level tend to worry more about not being to pay the bills; moreover, will the family have
food to eat tonight? These thoughts and questions are what a typical person will go through
almost every other day because and it all depends on what is the person s social class. According

Model Minority Stereotypes
Everyone feels pressured to excel in school, and this is especially true for Asian American
students. The stereotype that all Asians are smart is a common label that defines the model
minority stereotype. It consists of Asians being labeled as one group where they are all intelligent
in the sense of being naturally good at math, science, and technology, as well as being hard
working, self reliant, uncomplaining, and never in need of help from anyone ( Model Minority
Stereotype ). This racial stereotype has an adverse influence on college admissions, increases
academic struggling, and raises mental health issues. Although the model minority stereotype may
seem positive because it portrays Asian Americans as geniuses, it is actually quite harmful.... Show

According to college officials, Asian American college students state that they feel deeply pressured
to succeed. For example, Wai Kwong Wong, a counselor at Cornell University explains that he has
witnessed depressed students having difficulties coping on their own, which leaves them in a
predicament. Wong explains that students stop attending class because they are so overcome with
embarrassment over the fact that they do not have work to submit. Instead, they turn to avoidance
where they remain at home, hoping that they will be able to catch up; however, this fails to happen
because the students are too depressed. They fall further and further behind instead, reaching to the
extent where they completely shut down and hole themselves in their rooms. Imagine being so
consumed by anxiety and the pronounced, looming fear of embarrassment that it forces one to miss
class; it is truly terrible. Not only that, Wong elaborates that not many of these students tell their
families about their problems: They don t want their family to worry, or they don t think their
family is going to understand ( Depression ). These issues are significant because students cannot
go to their own family for help and support due to being overwrought with unbearable shame.
Likewise, students are clearly experiencing worrisome effects of this

The Interdependence Of Folklore
Folklore is never just folklore. Folklore is the sharing of the experiences and occurrences that are
part of our everyday lives. Whether intentional or not, everyone is involved in the creation,
transmission, performance and assimilation of folklore. Folklore is perhaps the oldest mode of
disseminating human knowledge and information through attitudes, habits, social customs,
traditions, and consciously, through the arts of music, poetry, drama, visual arts, literature and film.
Folklore contextualizes culture. It is the symbiont, which contributes to and borrows from both
language and culture. The interdependence of these three is epitomized by the relationship of the

ways of living.
Folk literature also known as verbal art or expressive literature is a broad genre of folklore which
is always concerned with the literary traditions handed down by word of mouth from generation to
generation. Folk literature is still popular among the Khasis and is treated as an important piece of
their tradition. Folk literature includes both narrative and non narrative forms, where narrative is
found both in prose and in verse forms.
In Meghalaya, there are a few folklore narratives, which have been adapted and reconstructed
into films. The first folklore film to be made in Khasi was Manik Raitong or Manik the
Wretched . The story of U Manik Raitong is found in several renditions in prose, poetry and

The Journal Of Antonio Pigafetta
Introduction The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future. This is
a quote by Theodore Roosevelt that speaks about a certain truth about History, the past. People tend
to think that history is of no importance, but what they don t know is that the past plays a certain
role in shaping the present and the future. When I was assigned to write a paper about the
Philippine s history during the Spanish colonization, I was determined to find a topic that greatly
influenced and affected the history of the world. A suggestion was given to me that I should write
about the significant journal entries of Antonio Pigafetta about Magellan s journey. I found this

Jeffrey Baker Hair Case Study
The Curious Case of Jeffrey Baker s Hair The more intently Jess stared at the back of Jeffrey
Baker s head, the more it started to resemble this particularly gruesome hairball Blue Bell, her
cat, had coughed up last spring. Blue Bell had gotten into the neighbour s garbage can and
feasted on a mixture of discarded floss, rotten fruit, and their dead pet mouse. The resulting
hairball was the most revolting thing Jess had ever seen, and she had to plug her nose as she
cleaned up the mess. Blue Bell didn t look too great after retching it up either. Jeffrey s hair was
a ragged brown mess that clung to his head like the hair in a shower drain, with just as much
zeal. Jess wondered mildly if he owned a comb, or if she should offer the one she carried in her

The Impact Of Technological Change On Employment Essay
Macroeconomic Written Assignment Unit 7 Definition of structural unemployment: Structural
unemployment occurs when employees and employers, for some reason, can t find each other. For
instance new technology may be a cause of structural unemployment. A company may require new
technology skills that are not met by the candidates in the area, so sometimes the employer decides
to relocate certain jobs somewhere else where people are more qualified. Another example is when
technology and automation in production causes loss of jobs as well. Also, a company may decide
to move its office or production somewhere else (overseas), where the cost of labor is more
convenient. All of these situations generate an increase in the unemployment rate, called structural
unemployment. Impact of technological change on employment The impact on employment occurs
because a change in technology immediately affects the demand of skills requirements. For
instance, think about a factory that is going to open a sophisticated new automated production area
that would produce something automatically from raw materials into finish goods. In this case, the
employer will most likely hire a mechanical engineer in order to fill the position. I made this
extreme example just to explain that a technological change has always represented a change in the
skill demand in business since the industrial revolution. Hence, with the innovation of technology,
from hardware to software, employees at all level need

However, you should remember that the Cohan Rule has been applied very narrowly, and doesn t

The building blocks that construct and support today s society are mounted on the pillars of
delicate norms and precise social standards. Occasionally, as a result of political or economic or

social expectations of society and focus on their own personal gain and interests. This creates a
disturbance in the classic order of societies. Communities ignore the colloquial goal of being a

the fusion of the egg and sperm to form the zygote; it cannot occur until after the growth of the
pollen tube from the pollen grain.
Q: What is the benefit of seed dormancy?
A: Seed dormancy prevents the premature germination of seeds. A see will germinate only when

A True War Story in How to Tell a True War Story by Tim Oв
Ђ™...
Have you ever been hesitant to share a true story because you suspected that it would appear as a
fabricated anecdote to your audience? Well, most of the time we add bunch of things or change a
true story to make it sound genuine to our audience. We live in a judgmental and complex world
where lying has become a part of our daily lives. Because of this habit, it is hard to differentiate the
truthfrom a fabricated lie. Since I was a child, my parents always talked about battle of Adwa and
many events that took place centuries ago. It is always amusing to listen to those stories because
it is about heroic act that most of the kings of Ethiopia accomplished. Although I heard different
versions of these stories, I always tend to believe my parents version. The reason is not simply the
credibility of my parents , but the way it was presented. According to the short story, How to Tell a
True War Story by Tim O Brien, a true war story is hard to accept as true because some of the
most agonizing parts are true, while some of the natural parts are not. Tim O Brien s narrative
shows that a storyteller has the power to shape listeners views. We can change our perception
because of the story teller, and neglect the fact that we are avoiding the actuality. Therefore by
listening to different versions of a story, it will actually help the reader find greater truth of the story.

The Revolution Of The Industrial Revolution
When thinking of the industrial revolution, I usually correlate this transitional period to great
advancements in machinery, and an increase in jobs. However, after looking past the surface of the
industrial revolution, in regards to the promise of great wealth, this promise was not kept, along
with other issues. I believe that a better life would mean that people would not have to go through
the same struggles they once did before the revolution, struggles such as not having a job, money,
home, etc. In addition, a better life would have to be permanent for it to truly make a difference.
Unfortunately, the industrial revolutiondid not do as much good as people perceived it to have
done. Essentially, a revolution is a changing in social order, and although this did happen, the
people effected who were a part of it were given almost the exact opposite of what they expected.
This essay will explore the conditions workers endured during the revolution, and discuss whether
the revolution gave a better life, or a worse one. The Rules of a Factoryin Berlin depicts just that.
However, these rules were, in some cases, much stricter and excessive than what I would usually
consider normal rules for such a work environment. For example, one rule states All conversation
with fellow workers is prohibited (p.313). In addition to not speaking while working, almost each
rule if disobeyed will be fined. Workers arriving 2 minutes late shall lose half an hour s wage

Miss Brill Symbolism
A short story titled Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield is about an elderly woman s experience
going to the park one Sunday afternoon. The elderly woman pays attention to her surroundings
because she often does not communicate with the other people at the park. In the end, she
realizes no one cares for her presence, causing her self esteem to lower. Symbolism and Miss
Brill s interactions with other characters reveal the theme of loneliness. First, symbolism conveys
the theme of loneliness. Miss Brill s fur coat is symbolic for her loneliness. She makes sure to
shak[e] out the moth powder[ed] [coat], given it a good brush, and rub[b] the life back into the dim
little eyes (Mansfield 606). The coat has collected dust, which conveys neglect;

Online Gambling On North American Shores
Article 4 PlayOLG gets better with age
It went down as one of the controversial rulings in Canadian history, when government proposals
to approve online gambling in Ontario were passed. While not affecting the rest of the world
directly, it would prove be a major step with regards to legalising online gambling on North
American shores. The legislation still has it detractors, as some don t like the idea of there being
legal gambling available within the home, but the records show that people are warming up to the
idea. Proving to be both beneficial to punters and the tax office, PlayOLG is finally reaping the
rewards of its drawn out development process.
The site itself was in development for quite some time by online casino standards, but has
seemingly got better as time went on. The casino features games from developers Boss Media,
Bally Technologies, and world renowned IGT, along with a small selection of titles from the
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Canadian lottery tickets can also be purchased directly
through PlayOLG too. The reason for why the casino took so long to get up and running was
because it was being selective in the location base and what technologies would fit in with
government operated gambling standards. Since its inception players have shown their support by
registering in high numbers, while revenue figures show that the casino was worth the wait and it
is only getting better with age.
Stepping away from the game selection PlayOLG has

Playground Movement In The 1890s
The hallmark of the progressive approach was a compulsion to do research, to identify and
articulate problems before decoupling solutions. (pg10) This quote illustrates the importance
progressives put on using scientific data to come up with policies and legislation. This approach
was taken to study the lives of the poor and coming up with programs to assist them. A popular
target of research were the newsboys. These were children handing out newspapers in the streets.
They were a symbol of the denial of right to childhood, a phrase coined by Florence Kelly in 1905.
(pg13) But the media shined a positive light on newsboys. Reformers had trouble convincing people
that these were actually child laborers.(pg11) We see another example that... Show more content on

Most reform schools failed to changed problematic behaviors of youths. But the more wealthy and
influential families in Chicago sought to do something about this problem to gain the loyalty of the
poor families. These families feared doing nothing will only bring social unrest which will
ultimately undermine their authority. From this, reformers such as Julia Lathrop, Jane Adams, and
Lucy Flower emerged to push a juvenile justice system. The injustice of the current court system
was that children charged with a crime during this period were put on trial on the same platform as
adults. Through the efforts by these reformers, the first juvenile court law in the US separating
youths and adults was established. The Illinois law, passed in 1899 established a juvenile court that
would hear cases of delinquency, dependency, and neglect of youths. The court had the power to
place children in orphanages or foster home, place them on probation, or to institutionalize them.
The juvenile court idea soon spread to ten other states within the next ten years.

The Themes In The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
One night, I heard loud tapping noises, I got up because of the noise and I thought I needed to
investigated. At this point, I m walking up the stairs and I see a large shadow coming from the
window. I slowly walk over to the window and the noise is getting louder. I look up in the
window and I see a person. I look closer and I see it was actually just my dad outside taking a call
and the tapping has from my dog s tail hitting the window, who was outside with him. The Time
Machineby H.G. Wells is about The Time Traveller, who created a time machine and wanted to
explore the future. When he got there, society looked peaceful and great, but after he discovered
the morlocks and he realized society was falling apart in the future. So, he realized he needed to go
back to his time and then the story ends with him joining his friends at dinner. The theme best
presented in The Time Machineby H.G. Wells is that things aren t always what they appear to be.
The theme in The Time Machine is that things aren t always as they seem. First, the text points
out that the world was too perfect to The Time Traveller. According to The Time Machine by
H.G. Wells it states, The too perfect security of the Upper worlders had led them to a slow
movement of degeneration, to a general dwindling in size, strength, and intelligence. This is when
The Time Traveller is describing the world to his audience. This supports that the world up there
was too perfect. This supports the theme because it shows

Exegesis of Luke 5:27 32
Overview
The passage that was chosen was Luke 5:27 32, or the calling of Levi. This passage presents Jesus
telling Levi, a tax collector, to follow him. Levi does follow Jesus, and soon after they are having a
banquet dinner with other tax collectors. Jesus is asked why he chooses to eat with them, and he
simply responds with It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but those who are sick. I have not
come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Levi is chosen to emphasize that he is of the worst sinners. The dinner with the sinners is a part of
Jesus mission of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In verse 29, he is changed from Levi the tax collector to Levi (Matthew) the disciple.
Jesus exposes to the Pharisees that his point was to call sinners to repentance. The tradition of table
fellowship was quite common among the Pharisees (Green 244). The dinner represents a festive
event, depicting Levi s leaving everything. By leaving everything, Levi has repented (Green 246).
Detailed Analysis
Luke s talents include being an artist and a theologian. He was a master of Greek and can write
elegantly in Greek. In his gospel, he uses a larger vocabulary than that of Matthew and Mark
(McKenzie 525).
The Gospel of Luke was considered historical content that is still referred to Lukan themes today
(McKenzie 525). Jesus and his morals are detailed in the gospel. This book is represented by a
priestly calf. The calf is fitting because the book starts off with priests and ends with the calf (Just
2).
The writer of this gospel was most likely a Gentile Christian. The Gospel of Luke and the Acts of
the Apostles were both written by the same author. The evidence comes from the prefaces in both
books. Both are addressed to the same person (Theophilus) and both have cross references to one
another.
Synthesis
There are a couple lessons to be learned in this passage. The first is that Jesus reaches out to those
who need him the most. Jesus reaches out to Levi in the passage because he needs him the most.
The second is the Jesus is trying to recruit the poor

Evaluating Estate Planning
Planning out your estate is not a one time event; whenever you or your family goes through an
important life change, your estate planning documents should be updated to reflect your wishes.
Because so much can happen over the course of a year, it is helpful to choose a date that you can
remember and review your estate documents on an annual basis. If your familyhas undergone any of
the following changes, make sure to speak with your estate planning attorney about updating your
will.
Remarriages and Divorces

Whenever there is a change in a person s finances, his or her estate plan should be updated to
reflect the difference. This is true if the change is positive, like winning a large sum of money, or
negative, like dealing with a lengthy illness. By updating your will to reflect your current financial
state, you will have a better idea of your ability to provide for your family after your death.
Other Changes
It is important to remember that a will or an estate plan is a living document which is meant to
change as your life changes, and there are numerous circumstances which would justify changing
or updating a will. For example, if the testator moves out of state, or has a change of heart about a
certain gift, the will should be updated to reflect that. Or, an unexpected development may require
the testator to completely restructure the estate. For instance, a child born with special needs or a
disability could justify the creation of a special needs trust meant to provide a lifetime of care.
No matter what the reason, at Novy Associates our experienced New Jersey estate planning
attorneys can help protect your estate and guard your legacy. We can help you plan for your family

Minority Groups In The Last Stand
In the series X Men, it is apparent that there a lot of social issues that could be comparable to the
history, and even current realities, of minority groups in America. A main issue in every X Men
movie, which is especially noticeable in The Last Stand, is the negative attitudes and persecutions
from the humans, that the mutants have to live with on a daily basis. In many ways this is similar
to the negative stereotypes and prejudices that people of color, gays, women, and many other
minority groups have dealt with in the past and right now in the present. What differentiates

The Pope s Official Register
Dictatus Papae, inserted in the pope s official Register in 1075, can be considered the most
important document involved in the lay investiture controversy. The document outlines 27
statements of power under the Catholic Church, and it is the first time that a document grants the
pope power to depose an Emperor. The document most likely written, or influenced, by Pope
Gregory VII came in wake of the lay investiture controversybetween the Holy Roman Emperor
Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII. Lay investiture is when lay, or worldly, kings and emperors
invests in bishops, appointing them to bishops of the area in which they rule. It was extremely
common for the bishops that were chosen to also be the Emperor s vassal as well. In return the
bishop would encourage and help the Emperor s rule over their territory. There had hardly been
any push back from the papacy in regards to this practice (Jordan p. 85 87). The bishops would
take the sides of the emperors because most owe them for giving them their position. The height
of the controversy started when a monk named Hildebrand, who believed strongly in reforming
the papacy and the church, was swept into office. Hildebrand would take on the name Gregory
becoming Pope Gregory VII. Gregory would first forbid married priests to perform sacraments in
December 1074, then two months later, he prohibited lay investiture (Jordan p. 91). Henry IV and
most of the German bishops would denounce these papal decrees declaring that since the

The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Essay
The e Deepwater Horizon oil spill at the Macondo well began on April 20, 2010, in the Gulf of
Mexico on the BP operated Macondo Prospect. An explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling
rig on 20 April 2010 killed 11 people and caused almost 5 million barrels of oil to flow into the
Gulf of Mexico. The spill covered 68,000 square miles of land and sea and triggered a response
effort involving the use of nearly 2 million gallons of dispersant chemicals (Pallardy). Considered
the largest accidental marine oil spill in history, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill (DHOS) resulted
in widespread environmental and economic damage, the exact nature of which is only beginning to
be understood (Shultz 59). This paper will address the causes of this unmitigated ecological
disaster and discuss steps that need to be taken to prevent a similar disaster from occurring again.
There were a number of causes for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, most of which had more to do
with the human element that with any technology itself. The four biggest ways that humans
contributed to the disaster, as explained by journalist David Coburn, was the fact that British
Petroleum s (BP) past success built a sense of complacency, the shifting the burden of proof, the
normalization of deviance and the fact that promoters for an industry also serve as that industry s
regulatory enforcers. One might ask themselves how being continuously successful can make a
person or agency more likely to suffer a disaster. If they

Abercrombie And Fitch Case Analysis
Introduction
According to Keyton, organizational culture is the set of artifacts, values, and assumptions that

years, past and potential employees of the clothing brand Abercrombie Fitch (A F) have taken to the

management values and company policies that create this image obsessed culture have led to
multiple human rights lawsuits, which has damaged the reputation of Abercrombie Fitch globally

Jefferies was successful in his pursuit and as a result, his exclusionary sentiment permeated the
workplace culture of the organization at every level; from the sprawling 300 acre headquarters

governed every aspect of an employee s appearance from the number of times they rolled the
cuffs of their jeans to the tone of their skin, which was preferably sun kissed . Not only did this
policy contribute to a negative work environment where employees felt they were constantly being
evaluated on the basis of their physical attributes alone, but it also led to human rights violations
wherein job applicants were denied employment on the basis of their race and/or religion. In a
2004 class action lawsuit filed against the retail giant, several thousands of former A F employees
alleged the company discriminated against African Americans, Latinos, and Asian Americans in its
hiring practices as well as its advertisements. The claimants also purported that non white
employees were frequently relegated to the back of store tasks where they would not be visible to
store patrons. A F settled the lawsuit out of

Formal Argument Analysis
French poet Jean de La Fontaine once said, The argument of the strongest is always the best. I

John Stuart Mill The Subjection of Women
Published in 1869, John Stuart Mill s The Subjection of Women is a revolutionary feminist piece
for its time, highlighting the unfair treatment of women in the Victorian era. Particularly, middle
class women were restricted from having lucrative employment and attending institutions of higher
education, were not permitted to vote and had very few legal rights. Mill s work was crucial to the
woman s movement of the Victorian era, as he argued for government reforms of property laws,
divorce laws, and the right for women to vote.
In the very beginning of The Subjection of Women, Mill touches on the subject of Victorian culture
and the gender roles.

Washington points out that there is a dignity to be found in fruits from labor. In the reading of Long Black Song, by Richard Wright, he uses both of these points in his text to make the story come alive. Although, creatively both Du Bois and Washington s points can be found hidden within the text; it is clear within this short story that Wright leaned to agree more with Du Bois points than he did with Washington s points. W.E.B. Du Bois presents two ideas within his text, the idea that African Americans live behind a veil and the idea that they constantly struggle with a double consciousness. Double consciousness to Du Bois was a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I said that any individual who learned to do something better than anybody else learned to do a common thing in an uncommon manner had solved his problem, regardless of the colour of his skin, and that in proportion as the Negro learned to produce what other people wanted and must have, in the same proportion would he be respected. (Washington 76 77) Washington is basically saying dignity in labor means that African American men will earn respect if they provide white men with something useful, such as things you can get from working hard in a field and selling it to white men. This will show them you are valuable and therefore they will respect you. The right to be respected by white man has been earned and thus it will be given. Long Black Song starts out with hints towards Du Bois idea of the veil with the lines, She saw green fields wrapped in the thickening gloam. It was as if they had left the earth, those fields, and were floating slowly skyward. (Wright 65) The terms such as thickening and floating give the image of being behind or on something. The idea that the fields are being pulled into a veil. These lines give a bit of foreshadowing to the story when you read between them leading us to whether Wright will side with Du Bois or Washington at the end of the story. Also the ... • 5. Theories Of Motivation And Motivation 2.2Motivation Kressler (2003, 1 2) defines motivation as a rationale behind human behavior; anyone who has motives is motivated and has reasons and causes for their actions and inaction. Rationale to work is generally a combination of necessity to work, to satisfy individual needs and to avoid frustration. However motivation is highly personal and people react differently to motivational factors. Armstrong (2006, 317) continues that motivation has three dimension; direction that tells what person is trying to do, effort which explains how hard persons is trying and persistence that clarifies how long person keeps on trying. For that rewards like incentives, promotions, praises and appraisals are created. It is how ever argued whether rewards affect to work motivation or just the quality of working life since it is commonly agreed that monetary rewards like bonuses or incentives have only short time effect on human behavior and motivation is a long run matter. Cam eron Pierce (2002, 11) even claimed that money or other high rewards can be harmful or lead to negative motivation if they are frequently used since employees might get used to it and when monetary rewards are being discontinued it can make them do less and more importantly enjoy less of their doing since there is no reward ... In the Apology, Socrates is confronted with the charges of corrupting the youth of Athens, and of not believing in the Greek gods. The charges were presented by a jury of five hundred Athenians. Socrates acknowledges the vast and broad idea of justice, and attempts to answer the question of what is justice? through debate. In the Republic, Plato writes about Socrates, and of a meeting between him and many other Greek men. Socrates and his fellow Greeks discuss these ideas of justice between them. The U.S campaign finance system has allowed legalized bribery that influences politicians in favor of corporate interests. The Supreme Court ruling would allow corporations to bolster any specific candidate in exchange for influence, and eliminate any other competition, in effect limiting the choices of the bottom 99 percent of the population. This gives legitimate candidates that harbor public interests an extreme disadvantage, and it forces him/her to rely on individual donations or concede partially to corporate interests. As corporate campaign financing continues, corporate politicians slowly supersede the number of politicians in favor of the people. The ideal goal of any business is for the assets to be greater than the liabilities (Cleverly et. al.). Duality Duality is a simple mathematical equation or rather, it seems simple. The equation states, The value of assets must always equal the combined value of liabilities and residual interest, which we have called net assets. (Cleverly et. al. pg. 185 para.1) This requires balancing reports about changes in either side of the equation. In health care, for instance, changes such as buying supplies, receiving payment for services, or paying the electric bill are all transactions that require balancing the books, so to speak, so that the equation is still equal. Cost Valuation Cost Valuation can be defined as choosing the right price for services, supplies and other things of value (Hutton, 2005). Choosing the right price may be based on the history of what the entity has paid that is reflected by money measurement or may be based on other measures of what a cost should be (Cleverly et. al.). Considering tradition black and white culture, it s obvious that some of the things we base these cultural values on are stereotypes at very best. However, the foundation of black culture in America is in slavery, and the opposite in this instance with reference to the white culture is in ownership of the African slaves, a kind of forced inequality. Although the Emancipation Proclamation began a long fight for supposed freedom and equality of all men, there is residual hatred and contempt even now. On the other hand, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun written by William Shakespeare, is the story of the love a man feels for an imperfect woman. Although the two poems are about love, they interpret it in different ways through rhythmic structure, and emotional expression. To my Dear and Loving Husband has an impeccable rhythmic alignment. It starts with repeating if ever three times in the first three lines. She uses this to express her deep love for her husband and at the same time to confirm it. In the fourth line, she compares her love for her husband with the love other women have for their own husbands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is used to connect the last part of every line. Also, the poem is mainly a satire, not a serious poem like Bradstreet s. Instead of praising his mistress, he emphasizes her imperfections and bad characteristics. On the other hand, Bradstreet only mentions the good aspects of her husband. She never says anything negative about him. From the first line to line ten, Shakespeare describes his mistress not as the typical ideal woman, but as someone ordinary. He expresses this especially in the fourth line where he uses personification to compare her hair to black wires. Some of the things he says are; that her eyes are not shiny, her lips are not red, her breast are brown instead of the perfect white, her breath odor is unpleasant and her voice is not melodious. He does this to make his poem stand out from the crowd, and also to not make it exactly as other love poems, such as Bradstreet s. He wants his poem to be more humorous and realistic. In Bradstreet s poem everything is perfect, and in reality it does not matter what relationship we are in, perfection does not exist. After he criticizes the woman in all possible ways, his poem takes a turn. From lines eleven to fourteen, he says that although she is not perfect, he has never seen somebody as beautiful as her. • 28. The Impact Of Technological Change On Employment Essay Macroeconomic Written Assignment Unit 7 Definition of structural unemployment: Structural unemployment occurs when employees and employers, for some reason, can t find each other. For instance new technology may be a cause of structural unemployment. A company may require new technology skills that are not met by the candidates in the area, so sometimes the employer decides to relocate certain jobs somewhere else where people are more qualified. Another example is when technology and automation in production causes loss of jobs as well. Also, a company may decide to move its office or production somewhere else (overseas), where the cost of labor is more convenient. All of these situations generate an increase in the unemployment rate, called structural unemployment. Impact of technological change on employment The impact on employment occurs because a change in technology immediately affects the demand of skills requirements. Well, most of the time we add bunch of things or change a true story to make it sound genuine to our audience. We live in a judgmental and complex world where lying has become a part of our daily lives. Because of this habit, it is hard to differentiate the truthfrom a fabricated lie. Since I was a child, my parents always talked about battle of Adwa and many events that took place centuries ago. It is always amusing to listen to those stories because it is about heroic act that most of the kings of Ethiopia accomplished. Although I heard different versions of these stories, I always tend to believe my parents version. The reason is not simply the credibility of my parents , but the way it was presented. According to the short story, How to Tell a True War Story by Tim O Brien, a true war story is hard to accept as true because some of the most agonizing parts are true, while some of the natural parts are not. However, after looking past the surface of the industrial revolution, in regards to the promise of great wealth, this promise was not kept, along with other issues. I believe that a better life would mean that people would not have to go through the same struggles they once did before the revolution, struggles such as not having a job, money, home, etc. In addition, a better life would have to be permanent for it to truly make a difference. Unfortunately, the industrial revolutiondid not do as much good as people perceived it to have done. Essentially, a revolution is a changing in social order, and although this did happen, the people effected who were a part of it were given almost the exact opposite of what they expected. The document outlines 27 statements of power under the Catholic Church, and it is the first time that a document grants the pope power to depose an Emperor. The document most likely written, or influenced, by Pope Gregory VII came in wake of the lay investiture controversybetween the Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII. Lay investiture is when lay, or worldly, kings and emperors invests in bishops, appointing them to bishops of the area in which they rule. It was extremely common for the bishops that were chosen to also be the Emperor s vassal as well. In return the bishop would encourage and help the Emperor s rule over their territory. There had hardly been any push back from the papacy in regards to this practice (Jordan p. 85 87). The four biggest ways that humans contributed to the disaster, as explained by journalist David Coburn, was the fact that British Petroleum s (BP) past success built a sense of complacency, the shifting the burden of proof, the normalization of deviance and the fact that promoters for an industry also serve as that industry s regulatory enforcers.
